I’ve visited Disney World many times, and even I struggle making a decision on what and where to eat! El Mercado de Coronado at Coronado Springs! Here at the Disney Food Blog, we like to try all the eats and treats we can find to help make that decision easier for you! We recently tried three brand-new items over at Coronado Springs, and we’re letting you know if they’re worth a grab. We stopped by El Mercado de Coronado over at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort because we couldn’t resist trying their new menu items. Disney World hotels aren’t talked about enough when it comes to dining. Let’s find out if this is a spot you need to visit! Seating area! First, we grabbed the Au Jus Melt for $19. On the online menu, it’s listed as a French-dipped sandwich at $18, but in person it’s listed as the Au Jus Melt at $19. Just something to be aware of if you look it up. If you enjoy roast beef sandwiches, you will like this one! It comes with a good amount of meat, which we loved. Au Jus Melt! The bread is wonderfully toasted, with an amazing crunch on the outside and soft on the inside. The sandwich was just a smidge too chewy. Overall, it was a savory, cheesy, good portion-sized dish. The dip added a saltiness to its overall taste. Our only problem with the sandwich is its price, especially since it doesn’t come with a side. Good sandwich, very expensive! It was way too pricey! Next, we grabbed the Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich for $16. This was a crispy fried chicken breast topped with shredded iceberg lettuce, house-made hot honey sauce, zesty dill aioli, and crunchy pickles — all stacked on a toasted Kaiser roll. There is a decent amount of bun with this thing, and it was very tasty. It was fluffy and tasted like white bread. Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich! We found there was a lot of lettuce and pickles on this sandwich — and the pickles gave it an amazing crunch! We found the chicken was pounded pretty thin, and the breading was falling off the chicken a little bit. It made eating it pretty messy since all the sauce was on the breading. Some parts were pounded so thin that it felt like we were eating just the breading. If we could change anything, we would want the chicken to be a thicker cut! We wish the chicken were thicker. When it came to the sauces, we weren’t huge fans of the aioli, and the hot sauce was HOT! If you can’t handle spicy food, do not get this. The heat lingers on your lips and tongue, and it was a lot to handle. This was HOT Lastly, we had the Italian Hoagie for $14. This was on focaccia bread, and we found this one was denser than what we’ve had before — it’s not quite as fluffy. It came from the fridge, so it wasn’t made super fresh. The meats were great, but very thinly sliced. Italian Hoagie! There’s a good amount of sauce, and the pesto blends well with the flavors. It also had a little bit of saltiness to it. The sandwich gets less dry when you get to the middle of it. For fridge food, it wasn’t bad — although, there are other things we’d probably go for before this! We wish it were fresher. Overall, we liked everything we tried, but probably wouldn’t go out of our way for it. It’s a good, convenient grab for those looking for something quick and easy, and are by Coronado Springs. Disney recently released a new promotion to get a free Disney Gift Card when you purchase a new Annual Pass to Disney World. This might seem like a fun deal to add a little extra benefit to grabbing a new pass, but as a long-time Annual Passholder, let me tell you why this isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Disney World Annual Pass Generally, deals are released when numbers are lower than expected. That’s why we see a lot of hotel deals; there are probably lots of open rooms that Disney needs to fill. But what does this mean for Annual Passes? It’s not very often that we see deals or promotions on Annual Passes. I can’t recall the last time there was a deal to try to get you to buy one, but right now, Disney World is offering gift cards of up to $100 when you purchase a new pass (sorry, folks, no renewals!). I do love my Annual Pass! Gift card values range from $100 to $25: $100 Disney Gift Card eGift – included with a Disney Incredi-Pass $75 Disney Gift Card eGift – included with a Disney Sorcerer Pass (for Florida residents and eligible Disney Vacation Club Members only) $50 Disney Gift Card eGift – included with a Disney Pirate Pass (for Florida residents only) $25 Disney Gift Card eGift – included with a Disney Pixie Pass (for Florida residents only) This makes me think that the number of Annual Pass holders is down. Many guests have talked about canceling their passes, but are people actually doing it? 2024 Festival of the Arts Wristlet Gift Card With changes like the Disability Access Pass (DAS) becoming stricter and excluding long-time users, and with what feels like half the park under construction, are there fewer Passholders? Construction for Tom Sawyer Island When I attend passholder-exclusive experiences, such as the EPCOT lounge or previews for attractions, there are always incredibly long lines, and special passholder merchandise sells out quickly. It certainly doesn’t feel like there are fewer, but a promotion deal to buy an Annual Pass is not for no reason. Passholder Lounge Maybe some passholders are taking a break from Disney. With Epic Universe opening at Universal Orlando, it’s hard not to want to switch to the dark side and try out Universal for a bit. Epic Universe isn’t currently on their Annual Pass, but you can buy single-day tickets, and those costs can add up. Anyone want to go to Epic Universe? Other passholders might be pausing their visits to Disney and waiting till more construction projects are finished before paying the price. With new projects on the horizon, such as Pueblo Esperanza, the Tropical Americas-themed land taking over DinoLand, U.S.A… A new attraction themed after the Walt Disney Animation Studios film “Encanto” follows Antonio the day after he received his magical gift – the ability to communicate with animals and is situated in the new Tropical Americas land coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. …and a Disney Villains land promised to arrive within the next few years, guests might be waiting to come back till these new projects are finished, especially while there are so many construction walls. Villains Land ©Disney Piston Peak, the Cars land area being built on Tom Sawyer Island, is also in the works… Piston Peak ©Disney …along with Monstropolis, where the friends from Monsters, Inc. evicted the Muppets. Is it even worth going to Disney World right now with all the walls? Even though entire areas are closed, the prices are not going down. ©Disney Annual Pass prices continue to increase year after year, and passholders may be reaching their limit. The Incredi-Pass, the only one available to non-Florida residents outside of Disney Vacation Club Members, costs over $1,000 a year, which is a significant expense for a family of four. Scanning into the theme park I’m not sure why Disney is offering a new promotion for Annual Passes, but it makes me think there is something bigger happening behind the scenes. This celebration of Toy Story’s anniversary is anything but corny… Howdy! Pixar’s first feature-length film — which launched the mega-successful film franchise — was released 30 years ago this November. In celebration of that milestone, a massive corn maze — yes, a CORN MAZE — has been built in England. The massive, 15-acre maze has been constructed in York, in the UK. The work, which includes Woody (standing on the iconic Pixar Ball), Buzz Lightyear, Rex, and Mr. Potato Head recreated in gigantic scale, is scheduled to stand until September 1st. Since Toy Story first opened in theaters in 1995, the franchise has inspired 3 theatrical specials, television specials, countless merchandise items, and several lands and attractions at Disney’s theme parks. Toy Story Mania A fifth theatrical I’m is scheduled for release on June 19th, 2026. According to Pixar, “this time around it’s Toy meets Tech. Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and the rest of the gang’s jobs get exponentially harder when they go head to head with this all-new threat to playtime.” The film is being co-directed by Pixar veteran Andrew Stanton and McKenna Harris, and features returning cast members from the previous films, including Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack, as well as newcomers Anna Faris, Ernie Hudson, and Conan O’Brien. Toy Story 5 ©Pixar As Toy Story celebrates its 30th anniversary and looks forward to a new film, a huge corn maze honoring the franchise is up in the UK this summer! Stay tuned to DFB for more! We’ve said it before, and we’ll repeat it — breakfast at Disney World is not an easy feat. When you’re so excited to get to the parks to have the best day ever, breakfast can fall by the wayside as you hurry to book Lightning Lanes, dinner reservations, and worry about what your first attraction of the day will be. That’s why we love a quick, on-the-go breakfast! Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Lobby We went to Kona Island at the Polynesian Village Resort to see if this is a great spot to grab breakfast before running to the park. Come with us for a full review to see if this needs to be your next breakfast spot. Atmosphere This small, counter-service spot, located inside the Polynesian, is your go-to for on-the-go options. Welcome to Kona Island! There’s not a lot of seating, so you might want to wander through the area to grab a table or head outside to enjoy the views. You can even wrap it up, put it in your backpack, and wait till you’re inside the park to eat your breakfast. Seating We love stopping here before heading to Magic Kingdom because they have family-friendly options that are easy to grab. Sometimes we’ll have someone in our group grab breakfast and bring it back to the hotel room! It can get a bit busy in the mornings We’re ready to order, so let’s check out the menu. Menu Kona Island has a bakery case filled with a variety of pastries and desserts. These will change throughout the day, so when you’re walking by, make sure to take a peek to see what’s there. They also have plenty of bottled beverages and a coffee bar, too. When you need a coffee pick-me-up! It’s going to be your typical bakery case with muffins, croissants, cinnamon rolls, and more. The menu The menu looks great, so let’s eat! Eats We started with the Cinnamon Roll for $4.99. Cinnamon Roll We’re not being dramatic when we say we’re cinnamon roll experts (we have literally had them everywhere across Disney World property). Was this the best cinnamon roll we’ve ever had? No. Will it do in a pinch for a quick breakfast? Yes! We love royal icing There are lots of layers, and you can see the cinnamon filling. It was sweet and had that fluffy dough with royal icing on top that helped tie it all together. The outside is a bit on the drier side and a bit harder, but the inside was delicious. We wish there were more filling, but for those who are picky eaters, this is a great option. Layers on layers Next, we got the Blueberry Muffin for $4.49. Blueberry Muffin We had no idea a blueberry muffin could make us so happy. It reminded us of eating pound cake, which is an excellent choice for breakfast. It was fluffy, moist, and truly cake-like. Yes, we know that muffins and cakes are very similar, but we were feeling the cake vibes. There are whole blueberries inside, but not an insane amount. They had a nice flavor but weren’t overwhelmingly tart or sweet. There’s a crumble on top which brings you back to the muffin flavors, and with the sugar, it feels like it’s melting in your mouth. There were no artificial flavors, and it was a bit sticky on the wrapper. This is a total hit! SO fluffy We also tried the Cheddar and Egg Croissant for $6.99. Breakfast croissant time This typically features bacon, but when we visited, they were out of bacon that day, so it was just cheese, egg, and a croissant, which we didn’t mind. This croissant was underestimated but overdelivered! The American cheese was gooey and was layered inside the folded egg. It was warmed up, too The croissant was flaky but not too crispy or crunchy. It brought just a smidge of sweetness to the savory eggs. The eggs were perfectly cooked and had that perfect bite to them, and everything was balanced in terms of cheese, saltiness, and sweetness. We’re definitely going to be picking this one up again! It was gooey and perfect We finished our breakfast with a Chocolate-Hazelnut Croissant for $4.79. Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant If you’re a hardcore Nutella fan, be warned that this croissant is not heavy on the chocolate-hazelnut spread. While the croissant was flaky and airy, we needed way more filling. We enjoyed the chunks of dark chocolate, and when you got a bite of the spread, chocolate, and croissant all in one, it was good, but we thought it leaned more towards the bitter side. We might opt for a different croissant next time we’re here. We wanted more filling Nosh or Not You should stop by Kona Island if… You’re staying at the Polynesian and want an easy breakfast You like easy, affordable bakery case items You have pickier eaters in your group and are looking for a stop with traditional offerings Kona Island might be a skip if… Heading to the Polynesian isn’t convenient for you You want a bigger or longer breakfast You want more options to choose from, especially savory dishes Perfect to take on the go Overall This was a great stop to visit! If you’re staying at the Polynesian, this can be a great way to grab some breakfast before heading to the parks and can save the day when you need a quick snack. There are many traditional sweet offerings that feature classic flavors, which we really enjoyed, and we’re still dreaming about the egg croissant and the gooey cheese. We might not go out of our way to eat here, but if it’s a convenient spot for you, Kona Island has great breakfast offerings. We can’t wait to stop by this spot again to try some more breakfast bites. Make sure you keep following Disney Food Blog for more of the best food reviews for your next Disney World trip. Summer has us thinking about cold treats, and you know, we’re going to be living off DOLE Whips, milkshakes, and ice cream sundaes in the parks, right? ©Dairy Queen But we’re craving some cold treats at home, too, and one of our favorite places for cold treats is Dairy Queen. Now, I’m an avid Dairy Queen fan and will inhale a Blizzard in minutes, but let’s just say that I was utterly surprised when I recently learned that Dairy Queen’s sweet soft-serve treats are NOT ice cream. Wait…what? According to Syracuse.com, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has determined that Dairy Queen’s sweet treats cannot legally be called “ice cream.” You might have noticed that when you order from Dairy Queen, none of its menu items have the words “ice cream” in them. But there’s actually a very good reason why. ©Dairy Queen Dairy Queen’s soft-serve only contains 5% milk fat. FDA and USDA regulations require actual ice cream to contain at least 10% milk fat, meaning that anything less is not considered “ice cream,” regardless of how much it looks and tastes like…well…ice cream. Here’s the official statement on the USDS website: “Ice cream shall contain at least 1.6 pounds of total solids to the gallon, weigh not less than 4.5 pounds to the gallon, and contain not less than 20 percent total milk solids, constituted of not less than 10 percent milkfat. In no case shall the content of milk solids not fat be less than 6 percent. Whey shall not, by weight, be more than 25 percent of the milk solids not fat.” Cruella Ice Cream Sundae in Disney World Now, for a while, Dairy Queen’s soft-serve was categorized as “ice milk,” but the FDA abandoned that classification in the 1990s and added new categories of ice cream: reduced-fat, light, or low-fat. So Dairy Queen is technically now low-fat ice cream. Oh, good, then I can order two Blizzards now, right? Note that this also pertains to McDonald’s ice cream, which is referred to as soft-serve. But it’s still all ice cream to me and it tastes just as good. Stay tuned to DFB for more. You can save even MORE on your next Disney vacation with this new offer! Disneyland Hotel I know first-hand how stressful planning a Disney vacation can be, from decades of planning my own. If combing over costs to budget for between your tickets, dining, and hotel has left your head spinning, forking over those costs with your Disney Visa card might feel like a little less of a blow, especially when you can earn cash back to spend while you’re on vacation with Disney Rewards. But if you’re looking for a way to save a little bit more, Disney just released one of the most solid discounts I’ve seen in a while, and you’ll need to snag it before it disappears. There’s so much to look forward to when visiting Disneyland this fall. Between Disneyland’s 70th anniversary celebration, Halloween, and (if you can time your visit right) the start of the holiday season, there really is something for everyone to enjoy around this time of the year. That’s why it’s become a popular time of the year for solo travelers, couples, and families alike to take in all of the sights and sounds during such an exciting season. So when it comes to food, we know a lot of folks probably wouldn’t think much about visiting Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground if they’re not staying there. New food at Crockett’s Tavern Sure, the resort is gorgeous and fun to walk around. It’s also fun to visit Tri-Circle-D Ranch to see some horses and even indulge in a little horseback riding. But food? Well, you might not think this is a food destination in Disney World. Well, we’re here to tell you that you might be wrong if you think that. We just visited one of the dining spots at Fort Wilderness, and we’re already planning on going back — no, REALLY! We just recently stopped by Crockett’s Tavern in Fort Wilderness to check out the all-new menu there. This wagon-wheel full-service bar doesn’t just offer tasty drinks, though, including moonshine cocktails. It also serves up some good chow. It’s close to the Fort Wilderness Marina and Settlement Bus Stop, so it’s pretty easy to get to from Magic Kingdom. Crockett’s Tavern We started with the House-smoked Beef Brisket Sliders for $18. You get three sliders served with creamy coleslaw, horseradish cream, and French fries. First, the brisket, which was so tender that it was falling apart. It’s definitely on the fattier side, but that works in its favor. The horseradish cream added a nice boldness, but it wasn’t super strong or spicy. House-Smoked Beef Brisket Sliders The coleslaw was also crispy and tasty, but we wish there was more on the sliders to balance out the smokiness. The buns are nice and fluffy, though. Plus, the fries were well-seasoned and crispy, and what more do you want from a fried potato stick? Tender brisket There was no way we were going to pass up the Burnt Ends Macaroni & Cheese because y’all know we consider ourselves Disney World mac and cheese connoisseurs. For $18, you get white cheddar macaroni and cheese, glazed pork burnt ends, and pickled peppers. We are happy to report that this mac and cheese is some of the best in Disney World. The mac and cheese itself is creamy with a lovely white cheddar flavor. Burnt Ends Macaroni and Cheese The burnt ends were crispy on the outside and very meaty, plus they had a coating of BBQ sauce, which worked well with the cheesiness of the mac and cheese. We would leave Magic Kingdom and come here again for this Mac and cheese, yes, we would. That creamy mac and cheese and the brisket? PERFECTION. Well, after all that savory, we had to end with a little something sweet. We ordered the Old-fashioned Buttermilk Pie that comes with a seasonal topping for $9. The seasonal topping is currently strawberries and whipped cream. Our reporter said, “I can’t say I have ever had buttermilk pie before, but now I am sad it has been missing in my life.” It’s like a mix between a custard and a cake. It’s soft and creamy, sort of like a cheesecake, but not quite as smooth. Old-Fashioned Buttermilk Pie The pie was very moist and held together well. We mostly tasted vanilla and sugar, so the strawberries really added to the flavor. The whipped cream also tasted homemade and just added a nice creamy and light component. This is another food we would leave the parks for — it’s that good. We’ll come back for this pie So if you find yourself in Magic Kingdom, which, yes, can be a bit of a good food desert in Disney World, and you want a decent meal, consider trekking over to Fort Wilderness for a bite instead. You’ll get a nice break in the middle of your park day and some satisfying food. Stay tuned to DFB for more. I recently had the chance to watch the new Magic Kingdom nighttime parade, Disney Starlight, and as soon as I heard the beginning of the music, the waterworks started. The Blue Fairy Nighttime spectaculars are my thing, so when I heard I would get to see my favorite characters light up the night sky, I was ready to whip out my bubble wand and start celebrating. Since it’s in Magic Kingdom, you can also catch another top nighttime show — Happily Ever After! Want to try to catch both? Well, you may need a new strategy. Disney Starlight currently runs at 9 PM and 11 PM, and Happily Ever After, the fireworks spectacular, plays at 10 PM. This means you have two choices for the parade, but only one for the fireworks. Disney Starlight — Frozen Float If you watch the fireworks, we recommend planning on the 9 PM parade and choosing a spot where you can watch both shows without moving. That means you’ll want to choose a spot around the parade route that is on Main Street, U.S.A., or near the castle if you want the full fireworks experience. Crowds for the parade You might want to scoot a little closer to the castle after the 9 PM Starlight showing ends to get a better view of the castle projections for Happily Ever After. Be warned: you will be moving upstream, so be prepared to navigate through. Magic Kingdom Fireworks Are you set on the 11 PM Starlight show, which typically has fewer crowds? You might not get as stellar a spot for Happily Ever After. Without the parade, I like to be in my Happily Ever After spot an hour or so before the show starts, especially if you have a specific spot in mind. Since people have probably been in their places for an hour or more before the early Starlight showing, you might struggle to find a spot, especially while the parade is so new. Crowds Despite Happily Ever After being around for years, it still brings on the crowds, and while some of the crowds will lower for Starlight after the newness wears off, we’re not expecting it to be empty. Happily Ever After If you’d like to see the fireworks and hear the music but don’t care too much about the castle projections, the music plays in numerous locations around the parks. I loved watching the 11 PM parade in Liberty Square, where there were fewer crowds, but I could still hear the music to one of the best fireworks shows to ever grace Magic Kingdom. If it’s your first time watching Happily Ever After, you may want to prioritize those Main Street or castle spots, but don’t knock watching it in other places within the park. People lining up early in Liberty Square I’m so excited that Disney Starlight is here and how it’s making my Magic Kingdom park day even more spectacular. The holidays at Disney are quickly approaching and we’ve got even more reasons to celebrate soon! Disneyland Christmas Parade Visiting Disney during the holiday season can be one of the most cherished times of the year. Now that we’re in the full swing of celebrating Disney’s 70th anniversary, it might have left you wondering which of your favorite experiences will be returning and if this cheerful season will bring new things with it as well. Well, as a life-long Disney fanatic, I’m happy to confirm for you that BOTH will be true, and there’s A LOT to look forward to on your next trip to Disney this holiday season. We’re getting closer each day to Disneyland celebrating the holidays and transforming into a sparkling winter wonderland. Celebrating the holiday season at Disneyland is where joy and tradition come to life around every corner. Disney’s just confirmed the return of several popular holiday offerings, including Holidays at the Disneyland Resort, Disney Festival of Holidays, and Disney ¡Viva Navidad!, which are set to begin starting November 14th, and will continue through January 7th, 2026. The holidays at Disneyland are a great time to see some spectacular shows, ornate holiday décor, and cherish unforgettable experiences that stir the senses and warm the heart. ©Disney During the holiday season, some of Disneyland’s 70th Celebration entertainment will continue so you won’t miss out on visiting during such a special time of the year. Disney also confirmed that Santa will be making his way around to hear your Christmas wishes, and you’ll have an opportunity to catch him both Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, and at each of the Disneyland hotels. Let’s take a closer look at what’s in store and where you’ll find them! Holidays at Disneyland Mickey, Minnie, and some of their friends will be sporting their sparkling new holiday outfits. Each outfit’s design will feature a “holiday spin” on their clothing they’re currently wearing for the 70th Celebration. You’ll notice all of the shimmering greens, reds, and golds used throughout each design, and if you look closely, you’ll find a few 70th anniversary nods too! ©Disney Snow might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think California, but nightly “snowfall” will drift down each night during Wintertime Enchantment at Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle. This special event is where you’ll see 80,000 shimmering lights transform the castle into a snowy, sparkling wonder. ©Disney You won’t want to miss the breathtaking “Believe…In Holiday Magic” fireworks spectacular to follow. You’ll also want to pay special attention to flurries that can be seen gliding along Main Street, U.S.A., near “it’s a small world” Holiday, and the Rivers of America. Christmas fireworks Additionally, A Christmas Fantasy Parade is where you’ll find beloved Disney characters, toy soldiers, and dancing gingerbread cookies make their way down Main Street, U.S.A., in a warm celebration of the season. Disneyland 2019 For some of the best views of the parade, be prepared to grab a spot to watch it near “it’s a small world” Holiday, along the parade route next to the Matterhorn Bobsleds. Or, if you prefer Main Street, U.S.A. reserved viewing for the parade, it is included when you book the Holiday Time at the Disneyland Resort Guided Tour. This guided tour takes you through both parks at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, where you’ll hear heartwarming holiday stories about Walt and the Disney family. During this tour, you’ll journey down memory lane, as you trace joyous and festive moments held across the parks while also learning about the rich tapestry of holiday traditions from all around the globe. Don’t forget about the ride and attraction holiday overlays! You’ll really immerse yourself in the magic of the season by experiencing the whimsical winter makeover of “it’s a small world” Holiday and the merrily macabre Haunted Mansion Holiday. ©Disney “Holiday Fun with Santa and Friends!” has also been confirmed to return to the Fantasyland Theatre at Disneyland. ©Disney This is where you and your little ones will make crafts, sing-alongs to holiday classics, and experience magical photo opportunities with select Disney characters and Santa himself. Holidays at Disney California Adventure Over at Disney California Adventure, you can “park” yourself amid the colorful lights, wreaths, bows, and Christmas-y cones right before sunset for a neon-lit “Sh-Boom” transition from day to night inside Cars Land. Cars Land during the holidays Winter in Radiator Springs is especially fun when you take a spin on Luigi’s Joy to the Whirl in his decked-out backyard while listening to tow-riffic original lyrics set to holiday classics on Mater’s Jingle Jamboree. Cars Land holiday decor If you’re looking for a pit stop to refuel, the new Jerry’s Junk Truck Cone from Cozy Cone Motel is where you should head. Disney Festival of Holidays has been confirmed to return to Disney California Adventure beginning on November 14th. This holiday festival will run through January 7th, 2026, and is bursting with color, culture, and cheer — showcasing a diverse season of celebrations through delicious food, a daily rotation of live entertainment, and unique merchandise. ©Disney As part of this festival, Festive Food Marketplaces will be found throughout different areas of the park, where new and returning bites and beverages will await you like the fan-favorite braised pork belly adobo. ©Disney You can also opt to purchase a Sip and Savor Pass to help you taste your way through the festivities at participating locations. These passes include six digital coupons that can be redeemed for select food and nonalcoholic beverages around Disney California Adventure and can be a great value for those looking to experience the most of what this festival has to offer. Turning our attentions towards the streets of Disney California Adventure, you’ll find they come alive with a blend of joyful music, dancing, and cultural performances during the holidays. You might spot a group of Holiday Toy Drummers marching to merry rhythms or the “Mickey’s Happy Holidays” cavalcade featuring some of your favorite Disney and Pixar characters to offer you season’s greetings. Disney Festival of Holidays at Disney California Adventure Park ©Disney On select days, Mirabel from Encanto and her friends will retell stories and perform hit songs from the film during “Mirabel’s Gifts of the Season.” Mirabel is also among the characters rotating at the Paradise Gardens Park gazebo, where you’ll find Disney pals sharing holiday greetings and posing for photo opportunities. Mirabel’s Gifts of the Season On select days at Carthay Circle, Disney’s confirmed we should keep an eye out for A Musical Christmas with Mariachi Alegría de Disneyland & Miguel! as they perform bilingual renditions of favorite holiday songs. Toward the end, be on the lookout for Miguel, too! ©Disney One of my personal favorites to see return this year has also been confirmed! Paradise Gardens Park at Disney California Adventure is where you’ll catch Disney ¡Viva Navidad!. This show is a heartwarming celebration inspired by Latin American holiday traditions — with a spirited Disney twist! Here you’ll experience live music, crafts, festive décor, flavorful dishes, and appearances by Mickey, Minnie, and The Three Caballeros. ©Disney Additionally, on select days, the Disney ¡Viva Navidad! Street Party lights up the area with folklórico dancers, mariachis, samba performers, and more. All, of course, led by The Three Caballeros in a vibrant display of rhythm and color. Disneyland Hotels The Hotels at Disneyland will be brimming with holiday cheer and decked out with festive, seasonal decor. You can look forward to specialty dining, carolers, and catching an encounter with Santa! ©Disney You’ll have several character dining options to choose from this holiday season, including a brand-new character dinner experience called Mickey’s Christmas Carol Feast held at Storytellers Cafe at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, and Daisy’s Holiday Pajama Party you’ll also find at Storytellers Cafe for breakfast and brunch. You can also make memories at Goofy’s Kitchen Celebrates the Holidays! over at the Disneyland Hotel or experience Holiday Tea with Santa and Mrs. Claus at Hearthstone Lounge at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. Reservations will be available soon for this experience, so be sure to keep an eye out for when we’ll be able to start making reservations. ©Disney A returning holiday-themed beverage menu can be found at Broken Spell Lounge in the Disneyland Hotel. This lounge’s seasonal offerings will feature creative twists on classics like hot chocolate and eggnog, paired with live jazz music on select days. Broken Spell Lounge If it’s rest and relaxation you’ve highlighted on this year’s wish list, then you’ve got to try the Underneath the Tree signature massage or the Joy of Holiday body treatment at Tenaya Stone Spa at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. Downtown Disney The Downtown Disney District will transform into a festive wonderland during the holiday season. Each step inside is one closer to its seasonal eats and treats, sounds and sights, and a beautiful nightly “snowfall” to enjoy. Your stroll through Downtown Disney is met with twinkling lights and wintery décor, while picking up on the joyful sounds of live music at the Downtown Disney LIVE! Stage. ©Disney Chip and Dale’s Ornament Trail has also been confirmed to return this year! This unique stroll invites you to search for special ornaments hanging from trees sprinkled throughout Downtown Disney. More details will be released soon, but you’ll pick up an activity map from a participating retail location, start your search, and exchange the map at a redemption location to receive a special keepsake. Holiday Merch and Limited-Time Food & Beverage Of course, there will be plenty of holiday merchandise available at shops like Elias & Co., Emporium, World of Disney, and more that fit practically any holiday style. ©Disney The festive color palette and Santa Mickey artwork on this year’s Mickey Mouse Family Christmas Collection brings the magic of Christmas to life with nostalgic and whimsical storytelling. Disney’s prepared to offer a wide range of apparel, accessories, home décor, and more, which make GREAT souvenirs or holiday gifts for your loved ones. ©Disney And don’t forget the dozens of limited-time, holiday-themed food and beverages outside of the festival food markets you can pick up throughout Disneyland, like the returning peppermint cold brew and Mickey-shaped gingerbread cookie. 70th Anniversary Celebration During the Holidays As I mentioned before, Disney confirmed that select experiences for the 70th Celebration will continue during the holiday season. This means you won’t miss out on your chances to enjoy the World of Color Happiness! nighttime spectacular and Tapestry of Happiness projections. However, entertainment like Paint the Night parade and other entertainment experiences will pause temporarily during the holiday season to be resumed at a later date. Paint the Night Parade Areas and attractions around the park will retain special touches, including celebratory accents and the colorful castle photo opportunity in the esplanade. Interactive MagicBand+ locations and the Key to Disneyland lock stations will remain available through the holiday season, though. We’re always trying out tips and tricks to make our Disney World vacation just a little bit easier. When you see this tip, you’ll likely tell yourself it won’t work, but hey, don’t knock it until you try it. VentaPak Do you wear a backpack in the parks? You likely have a big backpack with the whole family’s gear in it, and by the end of the day, your back is aching and SWEATY. Let us turn you on to something that can change your day. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Meet the VentaPak! This will save the day! Simply slide this onto your backpack straps to add a bit of space and airflow between your back and the backpack. In the Florida heat, trust us, you’ll appreciate having some breathing room. VentaPak It’s lightweight and helps with our back pain, too. It helps distribute the weight more evenly along your back, and we were definitely less sweaty than usual. Look at that air flow! We aren’t in love with how the Ventapack attaches to the backpack because the straps need to be very tight. Because of that, it’s a bit more snug in between the armpits, so while we aren’t sweating as much on the back, we are sweating under our arms. Clipping on Because we are always taking our bags on and off to hop on rides or eat snacks, it takes a minute to reposition them on our backs, which can be a bit annoying. Once we get it on, though, smooth sailing! It was worth the extra effort and time because when we were walking around or waiting in line with our bags. We can’t wait to use this again When you’re carrying everyone’s rain gear, water bottles, souvenirs, extra snacks, and literally everything in between, anything we can do to help our backs, we’re going to do it. After using this in the parks the last few times, we do think this is a huge help with back pain and back sweat! There is something unforgettable about the friendships you make early in your Disney journey, when everything feels new and exciting. For Steven “Steve” Valkenburg and James “JP” Pryor, that feeling never faded. From their very first days working at Disneyland Resort nearly five decades ago, the two formed a bond that has only grown stronger with time and will endure long after their retirement on July 18. To continue their tradition of celebrating resort milestones together, they agreed to remain through July 17 to mark the 70th anniversary of Disneyland Resort before turning in their aprons. For them, it’s more than a farewell. It’s a full circle moment, closing out their chapters at the place where their friendship all started. JP and Steve welcome guests to the Plaza Inn at Disneyland park with high fives during their “Chicken Bell” moment, a unique tradition of theirs where they choose one guest to ring the chicken bell signifying that the restaurant is open for lunchtime.Bonds Built from Mentorship JP’s journey at Disneyland Resort began in 1977 at Plaza Inn in Disneyland park, with Steve joining a short time later in 1980 at French Market (now known as Tiana’s Palace) before moving to Plaza Inn in 1983. It wasn’t long before their friendship blossomed, united by their shared mission for creating happiness for guests of all ages. A young Steve in the lead office of Plaza Inn restaurant. A young JP with fellow Plaza Inn cast members smiling for a group photo. A young JP with fellow Plaza Inn cast members smiling for a group photo. “We just enjoyed working with each other, and we both share the same passion for why we work here,” JP recalled. That mutual purpose has driven them since the day they stepped through the restaurant doors. Steve adds, “When I came to Plaza Inn, I was welcomed and felt like I belonged. JP trained me as a lead, and I received some of the best training [I’ve seen] anywhere.” JP spent six months mentoring Steve before he officially became a working lead at the restaurant, teaching him everything from practical skills to leadership. This mentorship laid the foundation for both Steve’s success and their long-lasting friendship. JP also shares the depth of their bond and says, “I consider you more of a brother than my real brothers.” Their friendship has been a constant throughout their time at the resort, and it will continue even into retirement. “I know we’ll always be in each other’s lives,” JP smiled. “Maybe too much,” he added with a chuckle. Pride in Walt’s Vision Steve and JP take immense pride in honoring the memory and original vision of Walt Disney in everything they do, so much so that they are recognized by their fellow cast as the unofficial historians of Plaza Inn. Steve and JP point out some of their favorite photos and artifacts from the Plaza Inn “Legacy Wall,” passing down history and heritage to their fellow cast members. The Legacy Wall can be found backstage, paying homage to the restaurant’s history and its cast members – both past and present. The restaurant holds a deep sense of history, which is something Steve and JP often reflect on while working. It first opened as the Red Wagon Inn on July 17, 1955 – the same day Disneyland welcomed its very first guests – before transitioning into the Plaza Inn in 1965 with a buffeteria-style service. The original concept, envisioned by Walt Disney, was to create a luxurious yet affordable dining experience for families. Early in Steve’s time at the Plaza Inn, a routine task became one of his fondest memories – replacing refreshments in Walt Disney’s apartment above the fire station on Main Street, U.S.A. “When I started, I used to go up to Walt’s apartment about once a month,” he said. Steve described the space as feeling like a hallowed museum, where the presence of Walt Disney and the legacy he built can be felt. “Working in the Plaza complex meant we had access to [Walt’s apartment], and that was really neat.” Memories like this connect Steve and JP to the roots of the incredible history of Disneyland and to Walt Disney himself. They remind us that preserving heritage isn’t just about looking to the past, but about the care we bring to every detail, every day because Disneyland truly is a labor of love and a source of happiness for all. A Legacy of Friendship While they may not see each other at work every day anymore, Steve and JP both plan to stay in each other’s lives by continuing their annual road trips. They have shared countless unforgettable moments together! When asked about their favorite friendship memory, one thing comes to mind – their road trip in May 2024 to Marceline, Missouri., the childhood hometown of Walt Disney. Exploring Marceline, they walked the same streets that once inspired Walt himself. It was a trip that perfectly captured the spirit of their friendship, affirming their roles as historians in their own right. JP and Steve “recreating” a sketch that Walt Disney once drew on a wall in Marceline, Mo., the town where he spent part of his childhood. In the morning of their retirement on July 18, the Plaza Inn team and longtime friends of Steve and JP gathered in The Golden Horseshoe at Disneyland park to celebrate the completion of their Disney Cast Life journey. The cast members who were fortunate to meet or work alongside the pair showered them with appreciation and adoration. As Disneyland Resort celebrates 70 years of creating happiness, stories like Steve and JP’s friendship remind us that magic isn’t just in the experiences – it’s in the people who create them with all of their heart. Their friendship, built on shared values and a love for making others smile, will live on through Plaza Inn and cast members across the resort for years to come With arms around each other and Mickey ear hats worn with pride, Steve and JP take in one final view of Sleeping Beauty Castle as cast members––grateful for the journey and excited for what’s come in their retirement. As someone who dreads the chaotic drive to Orlando International Airport, I am excited to see that the train connecting the airport to Tampa is moving forward. Brightline train According to the Orlando Business Journal, the Brightline expansion is receiving strong support from business leaders along the I-4 corridor. Brightline proposed a $400 million expansion that would connect the railroad system from Orlando to Tampa, in addition to its existing route from Miami to Orlando. Jason Siegel, president and CEO of the Greater Orlando Sports Commission, has spoken highly of Brightline and its ability to connect the state’s most prominent sports and tourism hubs. Onboard a Brightline train Siegel said, “Expanding Brightline to Tampa is the next crucial step for Florida’s sports and tourism industries. Tampa is not just known as a growing economic center, but also a major destination for world-class sporting events, tournaments, and entertainment that draws thousands of visitors from across the state and beyond.” He believes it can “unlock billions in long-term economic growth, job creation, and increased capacity to host major marquee events across the corridor.” Brightline at Orlando Other business leaders, such as Maria Triscari, president and CEO of the International Drive Resort Area Chamber of Commerce, and Grace Thompson of the Orlando Economic Partnership, are encouraging the expansion of the train system to increase tourism and employment opportunities. Walt Disney World was designed with a vast transportation infrastructure, and in the nearly 55 years since the resort opened, that system has only grown. Disney makes us happy! These days, Disney World guests can traverse the property by land via the bus, by air via the Monorail and the SkyLiner, and by “sea” with a fleet of watercraft that sail to three of the resort’s four theme parks! Watercraft have been part of Disney World’s transportation system since the beginning. During the initial planning stages of Walt Disney World, Imagineers were looking to make sure that the kind of “blight” that surrounded Disneyland wasn’t present around the Magic Kingdom. They decided to base the park’s parking lots far from its entrance, and built the Transportation and Ticket Center to bring guests from their cars to the park. The Ferry The TTC was connected to the Magic Kingdom and its resorts via the Monorail and a fleet of ferry boats that would travel to and from the park via the Seven Seas Lagoon. Boats currently travel around the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake, connecting the Magic Kingdom with the nearby resorts as well as the TTC. The ferry boat at Magic Kingdom The main craft that traverse the waterways are Disney World’s ferryboats, which can transport up to 600 passengers to and from Magic Kingdom per trip. With that kind of capacity, I may rethink taking the monorail next time — that’s a LOT of people in one trip! ©Disney According to Disney, they also “share the waterways with two other kinds of boats: motor cruisers and motor launches. The motor launches — often referred to as water taxis — have been in service since Disney World first opened in 1971.” Behold! In addition, the Friendship Boat watercraft fleet also connects EPCOT and Hollywood Studios with the Swan & Dolphin, Yacht & Beach Club, and Boardwalk resorts thanks to Crescent Lake… Take the FriendShip Boat! …and Disney Springs links guests with the Port Orleans Riverside, Port Orleans French Quarter, Old Key West, and Saratoga Springs resorts along the Sassagoula River. Sassagoula Riverboats Disney World’s current combined fleet of 36 watercraft is 10 more than New York’s world-famous Staten Island Ferry. Specifically, the Sassagoula River Cruise has 13 MORE vessels than the actual New Orleans RTA, which transports passengers to and from the real French Quarter, according to the French Quarter Journal. Sassagoula River Disney World’s fleet of watercraft serves a vital role in the resort’s transportation infrastructure, as its had since 1971. Don’t miss the breathtaking “Believe…In Holiday Magic” fireworks spectacular, with flurries gliding along Main Street, U.S.A., near “it’s a small world” Holiday and the Rivers of America. You can also enjoy “A Christmas Fantasy Parade,” where beloved Disney characters, toy soldiers and dancing gingerbread cookies make their way down Main Street, U.S.A., in a warm celebration of the season. Reserved viewing for the parade is included when you book the Holiday Time at the Disneyland Resort Guided Tour. You may also choose to immerse yourself in the magic of the season through attraction overlays, like the whimsical winter makeover of “it’s a small world” Holiday and the merrily macabre Haunted Mansion Holiday. “Holiday Fun with Santa and Friends!” returns to the Fantasyland Theatre at Disneyland park to spread holiday cheer. Engage in craft-making, sing-alongs to beloved holiday classics and magical photo opportunities with select Disney characters and Santa himself. Holidays at Disney California Adventure Park At Disney California Adventure park, your friends in Cars Land really step on the gas when it comes to getting merry! Park yourself amid the colorful lights, wreaths, bows and Christmas-y cones right before sunset for a neon-lit “Sh-Boom” transition from day to night. Winter in Radiator Springs is especially fun when you ride Luigi’s Joy to the Whirl in his decked-out backyard and hear tow-riffic original lyrics to holiday classics on Mater’s Jingle Jamboree. Things sure do shine up nice ‘round these parts! Need to refuel your tank? Try the new Jerry’s Junk Truck Cone from Cozy Cone Motel. Disney Festival of Holidays at Disney California Adventure Park Disney Festival of Holidays returns to Disney California Adventure park Nov. 14, 2025, through Jan. 7, 2026. Madame Tussauds has created 13 new Taylor Swift wax figures for installation in attractions around the globe, including the Icon Park location on Orlando’s International Drive. The looks are tied to Swift’s global Eras Tour, which had 149 sell-out dates. In Orlando, the Swift figure is outfitted in a black sequined Roberto Cavalli catsuit, which has red snake embellishments, plus black boots. It also sports a matching Rebel microphone. It represents the “reputation” era. Tussauds says the multi-figure introduction is the most ambitious in its 250-year history. It released eight Lady Gaga figures in 2011 and seven Harry Styles figures in 2023. More than 40 artists worked on the figures for 14 months. Madame Tussauds Orlando is showcasing a new Taylor Swift wax figure, one of 13 made of the singer and distributed to attractions around the world. Orlando's figure, outfitted in Roberto Cavalli catsuit, reprents the singer's "reputation" era seen in her world tour. (Jonathan Short/Madame Tussauds)“Madame Tussauds has a centuries-old legacy of holding a mirror up to the world of fame, immortalizing the profiles that are making an imprint on the day’s culture. Taylor Swift’s influence spans music, fashion, film, activism and even the economy,” Laura Sheard, global brand director at Madame Tussauds, said in a news release. A Swift figure previously appeared in Madame Tussauds Orlando with a guitar and wearing black shorts and sheer top. Among the other singers represented in the Orlando attraction are Beyonce, Bad Bunny, Dua Lipa and Rihanna. The new Taylor Swift figures also will appear in Tussaud attractions in Amsterdam; Berlin; Blackpool, England; Budapest; Hollywood, California; Hong Kong; Las Vegas; London; Nashville; New York; and Sydney, plus a touring figure is beginning its its residency in Shanghai. The 13 new Taylor Swift wax figures are in 13 different outfits and headed to 13 cities worldwide, including Orlando. Something interesting has RETURNED to EPCOT! Demonstration in progress Disney’s been hard at work overhauling the SeaBase aquarium in World Nature and welcoming new manatees into their short-term care program. While we’ve loved stopping by for a chance to see a few new friendly faces, there’s another experience that, if you time just right, could blow your mind! If you’re visiting a very specific area of EPCOT at certain times of the day, you’ll be able to catch an experience that’s just quietly returned to the park. Over at the SeaBase aquarium, you may have noticed a large lockout chamber that’s sat mostly empty for the past few years, however, all that’s about to change! What’s that?! If you find yourself wandering around SeaBase or in search of one of the most unique experiences Disney World has to offer, you’ll find it here a few times each day. EPCOT has recently brought back the Diver Lockout Chamber Demonstrations to the center of the aquariums and it’s all on display for you to view in the open. Diver Lockout Chamber Demonstration This demonstration happens only a few times a day, once in the morning at 10:30 AM and again at 4 PM. It’s also fairly short and lasts just around 8-10 minutes or so. If you’re wanting to catch the show, you’ll want to be early as lots of folks were there to see the show when we stopped by. Crowds in SeaBase The demonstration starts off with an introduction to the diver who may ask for a volunteer to be his dive buddy. The diver will then go over some hand signals they’ll be using with their dive buddy to communicate once inside. Then it’s time to get to filling up the tank! This fill-up process takes about 4 minutes to fill up and only a whopping 45 seconds to drain. While filling up the tank, your diver may go over and show some of the equipment used in the tube, like their regulator and oxygen tank. Prepping to go up! They’ll also stress the importance of keeping pollution out of the water. This was done during our demonstration by showing how similar a plastic bag can look like a jellyfish in the water, and they suggest using reusable bags instead since they’re better for the environment. Once they’re finished with the quick demonstration, the tank is drained and you’ll have an opportunity to take pics with the diver. Showing a plastic bag in the water This is one of the most unique experiences you can see while visiting Disney World, and you get some nuggets of helpful information and education at the same time. We’re excited to see Disney reintroduce this offering once again to the park, and we hope this will lead to other show times for such a neat demonstration! Don’t go anywhere — there’s plenty more Disney World news to be shared! Be sure to check back with us at DFB for all the latest updates, changes, and more happening every day. “Pass. As Disneyland Resort continues to celebrate its 70th anniversary, a groundbreaking new show and attraction is taking center stage at the Main Street Opera House: “Walt Disney — A Magical Life.” This immersive experience honors the legacy of Walt Disney through a blend of storytelling, innovation, and heartfelt tribute — culminating in the debut of the first-ever Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt himself. “The 70th anniversary of Disneyland gave us an incredible opportunity to create this show — ‘Walt Disney — A Magical Life’ — to remind the public about Walt Disney, his life, his career, his incredible journey,” Tom Fitzgerald, Senior Creative Executive, Walt Disney Imagineering, said. Jeff Shaver-Moskowitz, Portfolio Executive Creative Producer, Walt Disney Imagineering, added, “This fitting tribute gives millions of our guests a moment of wish fulfillment to feel what it was like to be in Walt’s presence.” The Imagineers worked very closely with the Walt Disney Archives and The Walt Disney Family Museum to ensure an accurate portrayal of the details of Walt and his office. “But, most importantly,” Shaver-Moskowitz added, “we were passionate about creating an Audio-Animatronics portrayal that had all of his nuances, his facial expressions, his hand gestures, all those things that made this performance, this theatrical presentation, feel uniquely Walt.” A new marquee is on display outside of the Main Street Opera House in Disneyland Park in Anaheim, Calif. The show begins with a film adaptation of “One Man’s Dream,” largely narrated by Walt himself, tracing his journey from humble beginnings in Marceline, MO, to global icon. The finale reveals the Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt in a recreation of his Burbank office, where he shares stories and philosophies drawn from decades of archival recordings. “Creating an Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt Disney is something that the team took very seriously, likely as seriously as Walt Disney did in creating the Audio-Animatronics figure of Abraham Lincoln decades ago,” Fitzgerald said. Audio-Animatronics technology was pioneered in the 1960s by Walt Disney and his Imagineers and made a major impression at the 1964 World’s Fair with — among other figures — Abraham Lincoln in the show “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln,” which now shares a home with “Walt Disney — A Magical Life.” In the six decades since, the technology has only improved. “For ‘Walt Disney — A Magical Life,’ the team at Walt Disney Imagineering has created the most lifelike figure we have ever created,” Fitzgerald said. The attraction features a cinematic presentation of Walt Disney’s journey, culminating in a visit with Walt in his office, made possible through the magic of Audio-Animatronics storytelling. To achieve this, Imagineers developed what they call “moonshots” — leaps in technology for a humanoid figure that include soft eyelids, expressive eyebrows, and even the twinkle in Walt’s eye. “All of these things bring the personality of Walt Disney to life in a way that could never have been done before,” Fitzgerald added. The attraction is more than a technical marvel — it’s a message of perseverance and creativity. “Walt Disney’s story is an amazing one. What a journey. Throughout his career, he had setbacks, but he never gave up. He kept moving forward and we thought that was a message that was an important one to share with our audience today. Follow your dreams. Never give up. Yes, you will have setbacks. Turn them into success and give the world your best,” Fitzgerald said. Have you noticed something missing in Disney’s surprise announcement regarding Disney’s Hollywood Studios? Hollywood Studios A lot of change is on the horizon for Hollywood Studios. Muppets Courtyard closed down this year to begin construction on the new Monsters Inc. themed land, Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster will eventually get a Muppets re-theme, and the most recent news involved the closing and changing of Animation Courtyard. As exciting as we are about what’s coming, we noticed an iconic piece was gone! Disney World just confirmed that the Animation Courtyard area of Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be closing and making way for brand-new experiences! These new additions are sure to evoke those nostalgic feelings, as the new area resembles the Hollywood Studios park that once was. ©Disney The Animation Courtyard is currently home to a few attractions, including Star Wars: Launch Bay, Disney Jr. Play and Dance!, and the brand-new Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure show. Disney will be closing the Animation Courtyard and Star Wars: Launch Bay to welcome an experience called The Magic of Disney Animation. ©Disney The new area will bring fans of Disney animation to a place where their favorite animated Disney characters “come to life”. This experience will include short films, interactive animated character portraits, and lessons on drawing Disney characters (sound familiar?!). The concept art looked amazing, but with every new experience that’s coming, we noticed an iconic piece was missing from the concept art. Can you spot it? ©Disney Uh…Disney, where’s the Hollywood Studios arch? You know, the entrance archway to Animation Courtyard that says “Disney’s Hollywood Studios?” Hopefully, it isn’t removed from the park, but the fact that it isn’t included in the new concept art is worrisome. It’s too big and too iconic a piece for it to just be forgotten when putting the concept art together. So, we may be saying goodbye to this! Hollywood Studios Arch The brand-new area is confirmed to be opening in 2026. With that timeline in mind, Disney did announce that the Animation Courtyard and Disney Jr. Dance and Play! will be closing on September 25th, 2025. During the closure, the only thing open will be the brand-new Little Mermaid show. Star Wars fans, you have a little bit of time to check out Launch Bay before it’s gone! Star Wars Launch Bay We’re excited for the new changes, but we’re hoping the classic arch doesn’t go away. We might be trading one iconic piece for another iconic piece in the Mickey Sorcerer hat. The Outta Control Magic Comedy Dinner Show is marking its 25th year at WonderWorks Orlando, an attraction on International Drive. The family-oriented production serves up a menu of unlimited pizza and salad and features longtime magician Tony Brent or other performers. The attraction focuses on edutainment but also features laser tag, ropes course, art gallery, its Extreme Weather Zone and the dinner show. Brent’s magical journey has wound from west Tennessee through Walt Disney World and to the upside-down-looking building on I-Drive. He has been with Outta Control as a performer since its beginning and has been the producer of it from an early point, too. He sat in the ground-floor room, where the show happens nightly, with the Orlando Sentinel and talked about the show’s roots, attention spans, British fans and more. ORLANDO SENTINEL: Were you here from the beginning? How did you start? TONY BRENT: It was [founder] John Morgan’s idea. He’s a magic fan. This was a party room. They had tried a couple of different things in here that didn’t work. So he had the idea of doing a comedy magic show. So that’s how the whole thing started. OS: So, you, like, answered an ad in the paper? TB: I came here to work for Disney in ‘99, and I was working at Hollywood Studios at the time. Do you remember the Blue Sheet, which was a performer’s newsletter that used to come out? Well, I moved here, and I subscribed to the Blue Sheet … and there was an ad for a magician. And so I called the number, I talked to this gentleman, and that was the end of it. I found out later he came to Disney to see me perform. I was one of the streetmosphere people, and I also did the pre-show for “Fantasmic.” This guy came and saw me, and then they called me, and then we had a meeting, and they offered me the job. It was originally called the Night of Wonder, and it was a scripted show about a magician and his assistant – his assistant’s in love with him. He doesn’t realize it. She was a singer, so she sang in the show. We even had a live keyboard player who played the music. … That was the original show, but the audiences thought it was for adults only because of the romance angle. So we had an issue there of marketing it the right way. So, about a year and a half in, we decided, as a group, to change the whole thing. … I managed to hire another fellow that I worked with named Danny Devaney, whom I’d known since the early ‘90s. We worked at a ton of other places before Florida, and so he joined us, and it became a two-man show, more comedy-heavy than magic. And one of the owners said we were out of control, and that’s how it became the Outta Control Magic Comedy Dinner Show. After moving from Tennessee to Florida, Brent worked at Disney 's Hollywood Studios before starting his long-running Outta Control gig. (Stephen M. Dowell/Orlando Sentinel)OS: Where did you move here from? TB: I was living in Tennessee, but I was mostly touring. I did colleges, corporate events, comedy clubs back when they were popular, all kinds of stuff. I’d been down here once before and auditioned for Disney and didn’t get it. And then my buddy – the one I just mentioned, Danny Devaney – was here working for Disney. They had a spot to fill, so he called me. I came down and auditioned and got it. OS: What else has changed? TB: Danny eventually left when they built another WonderWorks in Pigeon Forge [Tennessee]. He went up there to work at that one. I stayed here to do this one. It was still a two-man show for a while, and then eventually I was working with a couple who decided to do cruise ships. I decided to try it myself, so it’s been a one-person show since then. OS: How has the magic changed since the beginning? TB: The tricks have gotten shorter. I’ve got one that’s been in the show since the beginning, which used to be 12 minutes long. Now it’s five. So things have gotten speedier, like the movies – quicker, cut scenes, things like that. It wasn’t necessarily intentional. It was based on the audience and the changes in the audience over the years. OS: You could feel them nodding off? TB: Exactly, yeah, or looking at their phones or things like that. So you have to adjust based on crowd feedback. OS: Are you competing with the phones? Do you feel that? Aren’t we all? TB: The flip side of it is, I don’t mind people recording their family members that are on stage. I don’t want to take that away from it, either. … Even if I’m interacting with a person from the audience – Like, if I was talking to you, if they’re with someone, they’ll have their phone on them, you know, going back and forth. So, I don’t want to take that away from them. It’s fine. It’s a good memory. OS: Which trick is the biggest talker or stumper? TB: The original one that I was talking about, which involves a lemon and $100 bill, is actually a classic magic trick that’s hundreds of years old. … But that’s the one that’s been in the show the longest, and that’s one that’s talked about probably the most. And then there’s one with a bowling ball that’s also really popular. OS: Do you have hecklers? Do people yell out how the trick is done? Or do they just Google it later? TB: I’m sure they Google it. … And usually, if there is anyone yelling out, I can get them on my side, you know? It doesn’t end poorly. OS: Do you change the show very often? TB: If I feel like I’m getting in a rut with something I’ve done too many times, I’ll rotate things out, and then I’ll put something new in. Also, I have extra things up there depending on the crowd, so that I can switch in a second, if I need to, based on the audience. OS: Has anything fun gone wrong? TB: Oh, yeah. The good thing about comedy magic is the audience doesn’t really know necessarily if it’s meant because I do some things that appear to go wrong, and in the end they’re right. It’s part of the show. And then there are occasional things that happened that are not part of the show, and they don’t really know. They just keep laughing. OS: You’ve developed a U.K. following. How did that happen? TB: I don’t know how that happened. Yeah, there’s just, there’s some elements of the show that people will tell me are very British humor. And I think it came from when I was a kid, I used to sneak up at night and watch “Monty Python” on Sunday night and “Benny Hill” and all those British comedy shows, and maybe part of that wound up in the show or even maybe subconsciously. It wasn’t intentional, but, yeah, people from the U.K. tend to be fans. OS: What’s the No. 1 question people ask you? TB: The No. 1 question is probably when did I start? Or how did I get started? OS: So, how did you do that? TB: Two things … There’s a guy who came to my elementary school. … He was a retired policeman who did a “say no to drugs” show before “say no to drugs” was a thing. So that inspired me. Then there was also a guy on television locally out of Memphis who was a weatherman on Channel 5, who was also a magician. He had a show called Magicland, and it was the longest-running TV magic show in America. It ran 26 years, I think, out of Memphis, and he was a local legend. People loved him. His show aired on Sunday morning at 10 o’clock. He had a live audience and did cartoons in between magic tricks. … He and I became friends. … He told me all the inside stuff after he had retired.
