  1. Dizziness, falls, loss of consciousness and pains in the arm, wrist and chest were among the conditions recorded in Florida’s quarterly report of theme-park injuries. The document lists 12 incidents for the April-May-June timeframe, and it’s the first to include Epic Universe, which debuted May 22, and that part listed three injuries tied to roller coasters. Two of the Epic injuries were associated with Stardust Racers, the park’s speediest, most intense experience. On June 22, a 63-year-old man reported dizziness and an “altered state of consciousness,” according to the report. Then, on June 24, a 47-year-old woman experienced numbness and a visual disturbance after Stardust. On May 5, a 32-year-old man experienced chest pain after riding Hiccup’s Wing Gliders coaster in the How to Train Your Dragon section of the park. On June 16, a 77-year-old man had chest pain after riding the Incredible Hulk Coaster at Islands of Adventure. On April 26, a 60-year-old woman recorded wrist pain after riding One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish at IOA. On June 24, a 22-year-old female had an “altered level of consciousness” during her time on Carou-Seuss-el, according to the report. A 72-year-old woman reported weakness and dizziness after riding Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon, a simulator ride at Universal Studios Florida, on May 25. At SeaWorld Orlando, a 24-year-old female experienced “a medical condition” while on Infinity Falls, a water ride, on June 1. A 78-year-old female became unresponsive while on Sunny Day Carousel, an attraction in the park’s Sesame Street Land. At Walt Disney World, a 76-year-old female fell and injured her leg while exiting Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom on April 22; an 87-year-old female lost consciousness after riding Dinosaur at Disney’s Animal Kingdom on May 3; and a 44-year-old man had right arm pain while aboard the Liberty Bell, the steamboat attraction at Magic Kingdom, on June 21. No injuries were reported at Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Legoland Florida or Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. The state’s major theme parks self-report about visitors who are injured on their rides and require at least 24 hours of hospitalization. The totals are made public quarterly through an agreement with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The state does not receive health updates after the initial assessments. dbevil@orlandosentinel.com View the full article

  3. Flying is almost constantly changing, which can make things confusing, but don’t worry, we’re here to help! MCO Airport Some big changes are coming to TSA, and while they’re about to make all our lives easier when traveling, it’s going to take some getting used to. The 3.4 ounce liquid rule could be on the chopping block, BUT it’s official now that at most airports, you no longer have to take your shoes off. However, we’re already seeing this is causing some BIG issues rather than solving them. We recently flew through St. Louis Lambert Airport on our way back to Orlando and were pleasantly surprised to find that we didn’t have to take our shoes off. The problem? Everyone else thought they did, and that slowed down the line BIG TIME. St. Louis Lambert Airport Now, we don’t blame these people at all. We’ve all been to airports where the rules change not only from airport to airport, but also from lane to lane within the same airport, and it’s incredibly confusing. Now that the TSA is changing its overall rules, it’s difficult to determine which rules are staying around at specific airports and which are being modified. TSA lines at MCO For example, at this specific airport, Terminal 2 still has the old-style scanning equipment, where you have to remove your liquids and laptops, and your shoes may still need to be removed. Technology isn’t being rolled out evenly from airport to airport (or again, from terminal to terminal), so expect things to be a little rough for a few months as things even out. 4. We’ve seen some pretty wild flying stories recently, and it seems that things just get MORE and MORE wild. Ready to fly? Recently a budget airline shut down overnight and left tons of passengers stranded, last year a rat was found stowing away on a flight, and maggots were found in the most disturbing way as they fell from the overhead bin onto passengers below. Steel your stomachs, friends, because there’s ANOTHER story we have to share (if you hate spiders, look away right now). The Washington Post just recently shared a story that has us shuddering (and some of us trying not to see a reappearance of our breakfast, if we’re being honest) — customs agents in Germany knew something was amiss when they smelled a certain package that was coming through their office. Inside cake boxes that were supposed to be filled with about 15 pounds of chocolate cake, customs agents instead found around 1,500 tarantulas. ©Washington Post These arachnids were addressed to be shipped from Vietnam to North Rhine-Westphalia in western Germany. A spokesperson for the Cologne Main Customs Office in Germany confirmed that the majority of the spiders were alive when found, and were placed in professional care. While we’re not fans of spiders, we do feel bad that some of these creatures. ©Washington Post The person responsible for shipping the contents about three weeks ago is now under investigation. Animals of any kind must be declared to customs, and import duties have to be paid for packages sent from a non-E.U. member state, so needless to say, that individual is in a lot of trouble. As it turns out, adult tarantulas are traded online for hundreds of dollars in Germany, and back in November, a 28-year-old South Korean man was arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle hundreds of tarantulas, centipedes, and bullet ants out of Peru. The only spider we’d like to see on our plane Jens Ahland, a spokesperson for the Cologne Main Customs Office, had the following to say about the discovery, “My colleagues at the airport are regularly surprised by the contents of prohibited packages from all over the world, but the discovery of around 1,500 small plastic containers containing young tarantulas in this package left even the most experienced among them speechless.” More Recent Air Travel News! 5. I herald the beginning. I herald the future. I herald…The Fantastic Four coming soon to Disneyland Resort! While we are not here to present any grim news to Earth like the Silver Surfer, we are thrilled to announce that for a limited time this summer, guests visiting Disneyland park will have the opportunity to encounter The Fantastic Four as they make select appearances in Tomorrowland. Starting July 25, all four members of the first family of Super Heroes will make appearances in the area alongside their cute, faithful robot assistant H.E.R.B.I.E., who is always up to the task of finding new faces to assist. During this limited time run, guests may encounter one member of The Fantastic Four or H.E.R.B.I.E. as they drop into Tomorrowland between missions — select appearances are also coming soon to Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. If you’ve been humming that powerful musical score from the trailer or are looking to see which members of The Fantastic Four your little one will be able to take a picture with, read on to see who you may be able to spot between Earth-saving tasks and some good old fashioned family time. Get Ready for Clobberin’ Time with The Thing Everybody’s best friend with a true heart of gold, The Thing is the backbone of The Fantastic Four and a rock-solid pal. With plenty of incredible stamina and powerhouse might, The Thing will greet heroic guests young and old at Disneyland park for a limited time before he heads out on his next mission to protect the universe. You can also catch up with The Thing as his adventures take him to other spots around the world. At Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, look for him when he appears at select times on the Tomorrowland Stage beginning July 23. Stretch Your Arm Out to Shake Mister Fantastic’s Hand With the ability to adapt, bend and stretch around any problem that arises, Mister Fantastic leads The Fantastic Four with scientific brilliance and a twisting, pliable form that would even impress a classic Disneyland pretzel. During this limited time stop in Tomorrowland at Disneyland, prepare to reach out and greet the heroic genius as he plots to defend Earth from the ravenous space god Galactus and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer. The fate of the universe may be on the line, but Mister Fantastic’s calm, cool, and composed demeanor makes him a fan-favorite for adoring civilians traveling from all around the world. Look Around for the Invisible Woman The leading maternal figure of The Fantastic Four and a formidable heroine with great powers of invisibility, the Invisible Woman will radiate with energy as she greets friendly guests looking to thank her for her heroism. Dressed in her classic Super Hero look, the Invisible Woman is sure to impress alongside the rest of The Fantastic Four. Additionally at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, you can look for the Invisible Woman to join The Thing for heroic encounters when they appear on the Tomorrowland Stage together starting July 23. Don’t miss out on these opportunities before she… disappears. Flame On and Greet the Human Torch With a love of adventure and high thrills, you would think the Human Torch would be racing through the cosmos to the edge of the galaxy on Space Mountain. Instead, he’ll be greeting guests in his blue and white Super Hero attire in the heart of Tomorrowland, lighting up smiles for guests young and old with his signature charm and trademark grin. Amidst your high-flying ride on Astro Orbitor and a delightful meal from Alien Pizza Planet, don’t forget to catch the Human Torch in between missions outside Tomorrowland Theater, near the entrance to Space Mountain in Disneyland. But make sure not to cause any cosmic issues that may make him or the rest of his family late – he likes to have a family dinner on Sundays at 7, on the dot, no matter what… without any fiery sparks. Meet the Lovable Robot, H.E.R.B.I.E. With an adorable manner and a helpful personality, H.E.R.B.I.E. is the faithful assistant to The Fantastic Four built by Mister Fantastic himself. When he’s not helping Mister Fantastic develop brand new technology, maintaining The Fantastic Four’s ship, or setting the table for a home-cooked meal, H.E.R.B.I.E. will appear in a dedicated space adjacent to The Fantastic Four’s location outside Tomorrowland Theater for a limited time. With a versatile repertoire of abilities to help the Fantastic Four when they’re in trouble, H.E.R.B.I.E. is a vital part of the team that serves as a friendly, loyal companion — don’t miss out on your chance to see him! Power Up with More Experiences with The Fantastic Four at Disneyland and Beyond Looking for even more ways to suit up and celebrate the arrival of The Fantastic Four during the 70th Celebration? Starting July 25 through September 21, the iconic façade of Space Mountain at Disneyland will light up with special projection effects throughout the evening in a celebration of The Fantastic Four. In addition, select food and beverage items and novelties will launch across Disneyland Resort, Hong Kong Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris to celebrate the debut of the film, including The Fantastic Four: Clobberin’ Sipper and the Mister Fantastic Straw Clip at Disneyland Resort! Once you’ve spotted The Fantastic Four in Tomorrowland and encountered some of your other favorite Super Heroes over in Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure, make sure to surf over to the silver screen to watch The Fantastic Four: First Steps, only in theaters beginning July 25. 6. Walt Disney World fans enthusiastically greeted the roll-out of a new nighttime parade at Magic Kingdom on Sunday. It’s the first regularly scheduled after-dark parade at the theme park in nearly a decade. Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away now is scheduled for two appearances nightly. The parade is built to shine in the cloak of darkness, with an untold number of lighting effects. The floats strobe, flicker, dramatically change colors, reveal tucked-away details and spotlight an entourage of Disney film characters. It’s a mix of old-guard favorites – from the Blue Fairy to Mickey Mouse – and more modern releases such as “Encanto” and “Wish.” “I was not expecting to cry, but I knew there was a chance,” said Chelsea Onstott, a Disney World annual passholder from Orlando, who watched both the 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. runs of Starlight on opening night. “It wasn’t until Tink [Tinkerbell] came out, and I was not expecting her to be on the ground and going up to kids. And I think that just, like, got me,” she said. She watched from the flag pole area near the Magic Kingdom entrance, where the parade steps off, with friends, including Charlie Fandre. “As soon as the music started and you see the Blue Fairy exit the gate, that brought a whole wave of emotions,” he said. The Blue Fairy leads off the new Disney Starlight parade, which is now on the nightly schedule at Magic Kingdom. (Phelan M. Ebenhack for the Orlando Sentinel)“Once it ended, we watched it go down Main Street, and you just see the castle all lit up with the spotlights behind it, and the lights going down Main Street … And I started crying, because it was true Disney magic.” The parade route for Starlight goes up Main Street, makes a three-fourths of a circle counterclockwise turn in front of Cinderella Castle before traveling to Liberty Square and the length of Frontierland. It’s the opposite direction of daytime parade Festival of Fantasy, which continues its daily schedule. Disney Starlight incorporates elements of its predecessors SpectroMagic and the Main Street Electrical Parade, which was last seen at Magic Kingdom in 2016. The new parade ends with an image of Jiminy Cricket, just like in SpectroMagic. And the earwormy music from Main Street Electrical Parade is incorporated into the finale float, and spectators clapped along, urged on by a collection of passing characters including Goofy, Dopey, Rapunzel, Aladdin and Minnie Mouse. Peter Pan and Wendy are in the skies above London in the Disney Starlight parade which debuted at Magic Kingdom on Sunday evening. (Phelan M. Ebenhack for the Orlando Sentinel)Starlight includes new music that strings together classics through zoned speakers. The action swirls seamlessly from “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes” from 1950’s “Cinderella” to “Remember Me,” an Oscar-winning song from 2018’s “Coco.” There are visual tricks as well. Curved screens provide more characters that are animated. The pyrotechnics behind the “Coco” float morph into sugar skulls. In a “surprise and delight” move, Pinocchio and Geppetto appear in the trail of the Blue Fairy. The Starlight debut came on the hottest day, thus far, of 2025, but some fans claimed sunny spots several hours before the parade began. Joel Bass, who lives in Windermere, and six friends settled in at the park’s hub near Cinderella Castle by 6 p.m. Bass was armed with a Starlight-themed bubble wand (it lights up, too) and a Starlight-themed blanket that he purchased Sunday to protect from the heat of the sidewalk. “For me, it’s the first new piece of entertainment they’ve released in a hot minute, especially when it comes to parades,” Bass said. “I’ve never seen a nighttime parade before except in Disneyland.” Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom theme park officially debuts the Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away parade, Sunday, July 20, 2025, in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. 7. I’ve done quite a bit of shopping in EPCOT, but there are some things I’ll NEVER buy again. EPCOT When you’ve got limited souvenir money for your vacation, you have to budget wisely, and I’d rather spend my hard-earned cash on things that will last, are memorable, or that I can’t get anywhere else. So when I’m shopping in EPCOT, I’m ruling out some of the options! Candy I Can Get at the Grocery Store Starting off this list, we’ve GOT to talk about the candy! There are probably hundreds of different candies you can buy around EPCOT, especially in the World Showcase. And many of them aren’t quite as special as you think! Packaged snacks in EPCOT Just because it’s available in the UK Pavilion or the Japan Pavilion doesn’t mean that it’s exclusive to those stores or countries. We’ve often seen candy on display at EPCOT that we can purchase in the “international” sections of our local grocery stores. And unless you’re just trying to snack your way through prepackaged candy around the world, then you might want to save the snacks for something fresh or more unique! Snack Cart Breakfast Sandwiches At a few of the snack carts near the front of EPCOT, you can find a breakfast sandwich in the mornings. It’s your simple bacon-egg-and-cheese variety, except it’s served on what seems to be a hamburger bun. And honestly? It did NOT impress us. Yeahhh Disney’s breakfast sandwiches can be lacking a bit. When it comes to breakfast, there are many better options at Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie, Kringla Bakeri og Kafe, or even inside Connections Cafe, the park’s Starbucks location. Don’t shortchange yourself on breakfast! Freeze-Dried Space Food At Mission Space Cargo Bay, the gift shop at the exit of Mission: SPACE, you’ll find a variety of NASA and space-themed souvenirs. Among those are packs of freeze-dried astronaut food. Astronaut Food They seem pretty cool, but you can order snacks just like these on Amazon or find them at places like the Kennedy Space Center. They’re not exactly a Disney World-exclusive treat. And like we mentioned with the international candy, we want to save our souvenir money for the snacks that are extra special! Obnoxiously Large World Showcase Souvenirs Last but not least, we’re giving a warning for ALL the World Showcase shops when we say not to get sucked into any specialty souvenirs that are obnoxiously large. From oversized hats to giant umbrellas to full-on outfits, these kinds of oversized items can be a drag to carry around the park all day. There are plenty of cumbersome souvenirs in World Showcase Keep in mind that whatever you purchase has to be carried with you throughout the day, and THEN it has to fit in your suitcase on the way home. Make logical choices! Mitsukoshi When you’re shopping in EPCOT, you’ve gotta pace yourself — there are WAY more stores than you think! Be smart about your shopping, and when in doubt, spend that money on some delicious eats and drinks instead. Check out the video below to see how your next Disney trip will be different! 9. Disney’s newest nighttime parade is here! Disney Starlight Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away premiered on July 20th, 2025, in Magic Kingdom nearly a year after it was announced. We stopped by the parade’s debut (and a sneak peek of the show), leaving us with lots of thoughts, feelings, and tips! One thing that you’ll need to know about this parade is how to escape it when it’s over. Disney Starlight has finally arrived! The crowds absolutely turned out for the first night of the show, with people lining up along the parade route more than three hours in advance. There’s new merchandise, a new popcorn bucket, and even a specialty snack to celebrate the nighttime spectacular. Disney Starlight popcorn mix We have fallen in love with the new parade, which runs almost every night at 9 PM and 11 PM. (It won’t run on nights when an after-hours party is happening like Mickey’s Not So Scary!) The parade kicks off on Main Street, U.S.A. and goes into Frontierland which is the opposite route compared to the Festival of Fantasy Parade. Disney Starlight crowds! The parade kicks off with the Blue Fairy from Pinocchio as she lights up the night with her magic! After her massive float, you’ll see Pinocchio and Geppetto before seeing SO. MANY. CHARACTERS! The Blue Fairy Movies like Wish, Encanto, Coco, and more are represented in the parade along with Disney princesses, Tinker Bell, Peter Pan, and Mickey and his pals! This parade really is an absolute sight to behold, and we totally get why the crowds are showing up. That being said, the moment the parade has ended and the crowds are still around, things start to get a bit overwhelming. Princesses If you’ve been to Disney before, you might already know that leaving after the fireworks is a hassle, so how does the parade change that? Happily Ever After, the fireworks show, is taking place at 10 PM right now, putting it directly between the parade times. Leaving the park is still going to be a nightmare if we’re being honest, but there is going to be one main spot that can help ease that burden. Encanto Float If you really want a great view of the parade, a pretty good view of the fireworks, and you’re desperate to beat the crowds out of the park, we would recommend staking out your viewing location near Town Square Theater. Assuming you’re watching the 9 PM showing of the parade before fireworks, the closer you get to the park exit for your viewing spot, the easier it is to turn and escape the moment the fireworks are over. So. Many. People. The quicker you can get out of the park and to the monorail, ferry, or bus line, the easier it is to avoid a long 45-minute wait just to hop on transportation with your exhausted self and kids. If you’re watching the second parade, there will be a smaller exit rush, but it might still lead to some transportation lines. The Peter Pan float! Yes, you can still stand close to the exit for the same tips. You can also consider watching it towards the end of the parade route and have a very neat experience as you see low crowds as you slowly make your way out of the park. The 11 PM parade shouldn’t end until roughly 11:30, which is after the park has closed. Disney Starlight Main Street will be fairly empty by the time you make it to the front of the park, leaving you with a very cool evening (even if you can’t feel your feet anymore.) This new parade has truly blown us away, and we can’t wait to watch it over and over again. As always, be sure to keep following DFB for more Disney tips and tricks. 11. Magic Kingdom is going through some serious changes right now. Lots of changes! Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat have closed for good, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is undergoing a major refurbishment, and we’re getting a brand-new Pirates of the Caribbean tavern soon! Over in Fantasyland, a popular Disney ride has also just closed for refurbishment — here’s what you need to know. Heads up if you’re heading to Disney World soon! Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid will be temporarily closed this week. Luckily, it’s a short closure — but it’s still one more ride at Magic Kingdom you won’t be able to experience, like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Under the Sea — Journey of the Little Mermaid Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid will be closed from July 21st through July 25th. You will be able to ride the attraction again on July 26th! Make sure you plan accordingly if you are in Disney World this week! There she is! We stopped by to check out the changes at this ride, and it didn’t look like too much had changed from what we could see, other than the line being roped off. A nearby Cast Member either wasn’t sure about or wouldn’t share the details about the refurbishment. Since it’s only closed for a short time, we’re not expecting any major changes to this ride. Not much changed In addition to Under the Sea, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is closed — but for much, much longer. The “Wildest Ride in the Wilderness” will be closed for at least a year and will reopen sometime in 2026. When it reopens, it will have some “new magic,” according to Disney. We can’t wait to see what changes will be coming to this ever-popular roller coaster! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad We’ll be on the lookout for more ride closures and other updates you need to know about from Disney World. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more. Many popular offerings are returning in 2025, from Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade to the beloved unlimited cookies. However, some things will be different! In 2024, adult ticket prices ranged from $169 to $219, and in 2025, they will cost anywhere from $169 to $229 per ticket, plus tax. Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks If you go to the party on a weekend, later in the season, or close to a holiday, you’re probably going to be paying more per person. Typically, the parties on weekday dates in early November and early December have the cheapest rates. New Menu Items Each year, we see a new slate of snacks arrive at MVMCP! Sometimes we see popular treats roll over from year to year, but mostly the list is filled with snacks that are exclusive to that particular year. Smoky Chocolate Brownie Sundae While there will be many treats available at Magic Kingdom during the day, there will also typically be a set list of snacks that you’ll need to have a party ticket to order. And when we go to the party on the first night, we try most of them and share our reviews with our readers…so stay tuned! New Merchandise Along the same lines, each year they introduce NEW merchandise for Very Merry! 13. Traveling to Florida can bring tons of fun! Florida! You might be heading to Disney World or Universal for theme park fun or even the beach for a relaxing time in the sun. While there is lots of fun to be had in Florida, there can also be things you need to be cautious of. One of the “world’s worst invaders” has now popped up in the state, and you need to be prepared before your next visit. If you live in or have been to Florida recently, you might have noticed some pink blobs if you’re walking along a body of water. They look like tiny little blobs, making them seem nonthreatening. What you might not know, though, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), these little pink blobs are in the top 100 of the world’s worst invasive species. ©San Antonio River Authority These little pink blobs are called Pomacea apple snails. There are 4 different exotic species in Florida called the island apple snail, channeled apple snail, spike-topped apple snail, and the titan apple snail. So what is it about these little pink blobs that are causing us to pause? These snails are causing tons of damage to wetland crops because they eat “a variety of aquatic vegetation, fruits and vegetables, algae, remains of decaying organisms, and other snail eggs.” ©KSAT These snails could potentially change the aquatic ecosystem in Florida. In addition to the 4 exotic species that you can find in the state, there is a native Florida apple snail that is a white blob and larger than the pink version we’ve seen. The native species of apple snail traditionally pops up during the warmer months, and each of these clusters can hatch hundreds, if not thousands, of these snails. ©KSAT This all sounds interesting and weird and concerning for the state, but how would it impact you on your next trip? According to News 6, these lovely little eggs have a neurotoxin in them and can carry the rat lung worm parasite, so do not touch them! Additionally, these are incredibly dangerous if eaten raw. We are deep into the warm months, so be sure to keep an eye out for these on plants and other surfaces near freshwater. Native Florida species eggs are on the right. Exotic apple snail eggs are on the left. ©FWC FWC officials have shared that there is very little they can currently do to “stem the exotic apple snail populations, as is the case for most established exotic species that are often part of the exotic pet trade.” If you do own an apple snail, the FWC does suggest not releasing them into the wild. It’s also important to note that it is illegal for these snails to be taken across state laws. Disney World Long story short, keep your hands to yourself and don’t touch (or eat) the little pink blobs! As always, be sure to keep following DFB for more travel news and updates. 15. Seventy years ago, on July 17, 1955, Walt Disney welcomed scores of people — both in person and across the airwaves on ABC — to the opening of his latest and greatest creation: Disneyland. Disneyland not only created a new kind of entertainment industry centered on immersive storytelling and visionary design, but it was also the dynamic embodiment of a business strategy that Walt had been honing for the three decades prior. “Disneyland was a truly revolutionary concept,” Rebecca Cline, Director of the Walt Disney Archives, said. “It was the first themed park, and that theming was very special. It was based on things that had already been done at Disney’s studio.” It Was All Started By a Mouse The roots of Disneyland were planted decades before Opening Day. As Walt said in “The Disneyland Story,” the first episode of the Disneyland TV series which aired October 27, 1954, on ABC, “The story of Mickey is truthfully, the real beginning of Disneyland.” That’s because Mickey didn’t just live in movie theaters. “When Walt Disney founded the company, he almost immediately created the concept of synergy,” Cline explained. “Mickey Mouse was a very popular character in films, but then almost immediately they started doing ancillary products, character merchandise development, live events — all kinds of things that supported the character of Mickey Mouse and made him a superstar.” Walt Disney with various Mickey Mouse merchandise. From the moment Mickey Mouse captured hearts on screen, Walt envisioned a world where characters could leap from celluloid into real life — where families could step into the stories they loved. Walt began dreaming up Disneyland as early as the 1940s, and in the early 1950s, as concepts for the park were beginning to take shape, he also leaned into the potential power of television as another way to share his stories… and his upcoming park. “Walt would create a television series for ABC that was called Disneyland,” Cline explained. “He knew that if he could get his message about his park into homes all across the nation, that his audience would want to come to Disneyland.” As Walt himself put it, “Disneyland the place and Disneyland the TV show are all part of the same.” Walt Disney with an early map of Disneyland.Designing a New Kind of Experience “There were actually more than 100 layouts for Disneyland,” Emily (Emo) O’Brien, Portfolio Executive Creative Producer at Walt Disney Imagineering, said. “Ultimately Marvin Davis, who did those layouts, landed on this central area that became the core. And it made it easy for people to traverse around the park from land to land and still know where that common center was.” The Central Plaza, or “the hub,” as Walt referred to it on TV, remains the heart of Disneyland to this day. Construction on Disneyland. To bring his vision to life, Walt couldn’t use traditional architects. To essentially create a film in real life, he turned to familiar faces to help design the park. “He hired away his own artists from their own jobs and used them to develop the look of the park and develop the attractions,” Cline said. This team would become the foundation of Walt Disney Imagineering — a group dedicated to blending science, art, and creative imagination to tell stories in ways guests had never experienced before. That ingenuity continues to this day and Imagineers often work with partners at Disney around the world to develop new and innovative experiences. And, as O’Brien notes, “If we don’t have the technology in one of those units, we’ll just invent it.” Walt Disney with an Audio-Animatronic.Storytelling in Every Detail Walt’s commitment to storytelling extends to every corner of Disneyland. “He really understood that immersing people and moving beyond just the attraction… making sure the cast members were dressed to be within that story, making sure our food and beverage and our merch all added to that story,” Kris Theiler, Vice President, Disneyland Resort, said. That philosophy has continued as new lands and attractions have been added since the founding of the park. “A land like Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge really epitomizes how we have continued to hold that dear to us and advance all of those aspects of his vision,” Theiler added. “I don’t think we’ve ever built a land quite that immersive.” Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California transports guests to Black Spire Outpost, a village on the planet of Batuu. As Walt Disney once said, “You can dream, create, design and build the most wonderful place in the world… but it requires people to make the dream a reality.” Theiler noted that his philosophy carries through to his day, noting, “The cast members are really our differentiator and the people that bring the story to life.” A Legacy That Continues to Grow The early success of Disneyland paved the way for global expansion. “It was so successful very early on the company was able to move forward and do a lot of the bigger projects that Walt had in mind,” Cline explained. “That eventually became Walt Disney World and later EPCOT… and parks in Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong, and Shanghai… and coming up, a new park in the Middle East.” The ripple effect extended beyond the parks. “It gave the audience of Disney a taste for immersive and live entertainment which gave birth to things like the Disney Cruise Line,” Cline said. “And all of these places where you can go and involve yourself in-person with Disney, not just in a theme park.” To commemorate 70 years as The Happiest Place on Earth, the Disneyland Resort began its 70th anniversary festivities by honoring the people who have made those memories possible: Disneyland Resort cast members. “In many ways, Disneyland is a global ambassador for American creativity and innovation and imagination,” Theiler noted. “Walt Disney was a master storyteller… In creating Disneyland, he wanted a place to bring his stories to grow and come to life in new and unique and different ways.” That vision still rings through the halls of The Walt Disney Company 70 years later. “Walt Disney’s philosophies have always been what the company has focused on,” Cline said. “It’s all about great storytelling told using the finest and highest level of technology available and innovative concepts.” During a special 70th anniversary version of “The Celebrate Happy Cavalcade,” guests enjoy a surprise moment of singing “Happy Birthday” at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, Calif. on July 17, 2025.The post Disneyland at 70: ‘A Truly Revolutionary Concept’ appeared first on Disney Experiences. 16. It’s here! It’s here! It’s here! Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away is debuting on July 20th, and we’re here in the Magic Kingdom to watch. Disney Starlight Not only are we here to watch the new nighttime parade, but it feels like everyone else is here, too. Come with us to take a look at the crowds while we’re trying to find the best spot for viewing. We do have to say that when we arrived at Magic Kingdom late this afternoon, we were surprised at the LACK of crowds. Park Passes for Magic Kingdom were sold out — in fact, we were asked whether we had a reservation when we entered the Magic Kingdom parking lot! Zero minutes?! And the wait times? Can you say ZERO minutes?! Here’s what things were looking like at 4:30PM. These wait times are low! But the heat index as through the roof — and we speculated that many people were waiting until closer to showtime to come to the park. And we were right! Lots and lots of people lined up for the show! These folks were waiting more than three hours before the parade kicked off. These folks waited more than 3 hour for the parade! A new Starlight souvenir collection was released today, and crowds headed towards the Emporium to buy new ears, shirts, and bubble wands. Parade merch! There’s also a special Starlight popcorn mix at the Confectionery. Disney Starlight popcorn mix Speaking of popcorn, there’s a new popcorn bucket to celebrate the parade! The NEW Disney Starlight Popcorn Bucket While this parade is following the same parade route, there’s something MAJORLY different — this parade goes BACKWARDS! That means that the normal spot of standing on Main Street, U.S.A. and looking back down at Cinderella Castle isn’t going to work for this parade. From what we’ve found, there are three ultimately ideal spots for the parade, but keep in mind that these will be POPULAR, so you’ll need to grab your spot a minimum of an hour ahead of time: Standing on top of the train station balcony — this spot is used for VIP viewing, and probably won’t be available, but it doesn’t hurt to check. Standing in front of Main Street Theater with the train station in the background (the trick here is to see the parade as it’s coming around the corner! If you want to avoid some of the crowds, try watching from the Main Street Theater porch.) Standing along the parade barrier in the Hub, facing the castle either in the center, near the Partners Statue, or to the left as the parade heads into Liberty Square. Disney Starlight — Coco Float It’s also important to remember that Magic Kingdom’s fireworks show, Happily Ever After, WILL still be happening in between the two parade showings, and they’re going to be just as popular as they are now. If you want to see both the parade AND the fireworks, you’ll need to choose which parade you want to see (the 9 PM or 11 PM) and get ready to stay in the same spot back to back. If you watch the first parade, you’ll want to hang out for 30-40 minutes until the fireworks begin, which should work out pretty well. Disney Starlight However, if you DO want to do fireworks and then the 11PM parade, be prepared for a less than stellar view of the fireworks, because lots of people from the first parade will hang out in their same spots on Main Street. However, if crowds clear out a bit, you could find a decent spot, but that’s a little tricky and more risky. Now, if you want a no-stress spot for the parade, stake out in Frontierland! While it still may be very busy, it won’t be NEARLY as busy as Main Street, and you can expect the parade to arrive about 20 minutes past its starting time. Disney Starlight If you’re worried about getting out of the park following the parade and/or fireworks, it’s going to be a mass exodus, just like it is now after Happily Ever After. If you want a spot that will get you a great view AND bring you closer to the exit of the park, staying near Town Square Theater is your best bet. The closer you are to the exit when the fireworks or parade ends, the easier it is to turn and RUN to get out of there before you’re stuck in a 45 minute bus line with your exhausted kids. If you stay for the second parade though, you’ll likely deal with a smaller exit crowd, especially if you watch from Frontierland — then the parade won’t end until about 30 minutes after park close. Disney Starlight — Wish Float With that being said, 11 PM is a LATE night for kiddos and adults alike. Trust us when we say you don’t want to push through tantrum-level exhaustion (from people of ALL ages) just to have a slightly less crowded parade, because no one will enjoy it. If staying up late isn’t an issue for you though, then the later parade is 100% the way to go. Crowds will be lower, it won’t be as stressful leaving the park afterwards, and you can take some cool almost-empty pics on Main Street once the parade passes by! Disney Starlight We’re thrilled to welcome Disney Starlight to the nighttime spectacular family at Disney World. 17. Something new has come to Magic Kingdom, and no, we’re not talking about all the construction at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad or the construction walls popping up around Rivers of America. Disney Starlight We’re talking about a brand new nighttime parade, Disney Starlight: Dream The Night Away. Now, the parade had a soft opening a few nights ago (and we were SO lucky to be there), but after a short delay tonight (“due to unforeseen circumstances”), now the parade is officially open and will be seen EVERY DAY by everyone who visits Magic Kingdom. Disney Starlight can be viewed twice each evening as it makes its way from Main Street, U.S.A. to Frontierland at 9 PM and 11 PM. Yes, you read that right…this parade runs in reverse to the daytime parade, Festival of Fantasy. The parade begins with the Blue Fairy because Disney wants the star on her wand to be the first thing you see. MAGICAL. Start of the parade You’ll also see a lot of other floats and performers lighting up the night, including Asha, Star, and Valentino from Wish; some illuminated butterfly dancers; Mirabel and Bruno from Encanto; Elsa from Frozen; Disney Princesses and Princes; and so much more. It’s a stunning parade and a must-see if you’re visiting Magic Kingdom. Disney Royalty Float Now showtimes for the parade could change, so you’ll want to make sure you check the times on the Disney World website or My Disney Experience app. You’ll want to grab a spot early for it, too — you can get an idea of the best viewing areas for this parade here. We’re so excited about this new entertainment offering in Magic Kingdom and look forward to dreaming the night away every time we visit Magic Kingdom. Stay tuned to DFB for more. 20. Things feel like they’re always changing around Disneyland Resort, but thankfully, we’re here to check everything out and keep you updated on what’s going on. Disneyland We check out all the new attractions, dining options, and everything in between, so when we saw that something interesting had changed at Hungry Bear Barbecue Jamboree, we knew we had to look further into it and let you know ASAP. There’s a new trash system over at Hungry Bear Barbecue Jamboree, and it’s…well, interesting, to say the least. When you grab your food, you’ll notice there’s a new holder nearby for Food Scrapers. The instructions say to eat and enjoy your food, fill your food scraper with leftover food scraps, then place it in the appropriate bin. Food Scrapers Everything else is the same as normal until you go to throw away your food — that’s when you’ll notice there’s a new trash can that tells you it’s for food only. Specifically, it says fruit, desserts, meat, and food scraps, which is basically everything. New trashcan But next to it, you’ll see where to return your scoop. So essentially, you use the scoop to get all the scraps into one place, throw the scraps into this particular trash can, throw your other trash away in the other bins, then return to scoop to the bin beside the trash can. Interesting This is a great way to encourage composting and reduce waste, but we can only imagine how long this is going to take some people to get used to, especially if you’re in a rush to move onto your next activity. Just try not to throw the scraper away — we can also see that happening pretty frequently. We’re looking forward to seeing how this goes. Looking for more recent Disneyland news? 24. On July 20th, Disney World gave us a little surprise! Test Track We were focused on Magic Kingdom, because the Disney Starlight nighttime parade is having its official debut. But over in EPCOT, Test Track has reopened TWO days early! We’re so thrilled that people are able to ride this new attraction again, even though it’s not officially open to the public or listed on the My Disney Experience app just yet. But that’s not all that’s back open — the Test Track Gear Shop has reopened its doors as well! Are you looking forward to the new Test Track? Tell us in the comments! 25. Happy Birthday, Disneyland! Disneyland’s 70th decor! Disneyland most recently celebrated its 70th birthday with STYLE, but the actual 70th Anniversary Celebration actually started earlier this year and will go through next year, so you have a long time to get in on the party. This means you’ll be able to see the Paint the Night parade, as well as sample all the fun 70th anniversary snacks. Well, three NEW 70th Anniversary Celebration treats have arrived, and we tried them! Okay, we can’t gatekeep this first snack because it is ADORABLE. It’s the Pink Mickey Balloon Marshmallow Pop at Candy Palace. Just look at how Insta-worthy this treat is. It’s BEGGING for us to take more photos of it. For $7.99, you get a marshmallow covered in white chocolate. Sure, that sounds simple, but you know what? It’s WORKING. Our reporter called it a “little cloud of joy.” Pink Mickey Balloon Marshmallow Pop The pop is soft and springy and just melts in your mouth. The taste is not super sweet (which surprised us), but it has a hint of vanilla. It’s creamy and comforting and we’re going to order a whole dozen of these…#sorrynotsorry What is it about Disney marshmallows? But we’re not done. We stuck around at Candy Palace to get two more snacks, including the 70th Celebration Mickey Cereal Treat for $8.49. It’s basically a crispy rice cereal treat dipped in peanut butter coating and decorated with dark chocolate and sprinkles. Is it basic? Yes. Is it tasty? Also, yes. Is it Fun? Yes! Yes! Yes! 70th Celebration Mickey Cereal Treat We will have to warn you, though, if it’s hot out…this baby will melt all over you. It tastes like a general rice krispie treat, but we think this is one your kids will probably love. It’s so cute But wait…because a new caramel apple has entered the chat. The 70th Mickey Mouse Club Caramel Apple is $14.99. It’s a Granny Smith apple with marshmallow ears dipped in caramel and colored chocolatey coating with a white chocolate Mickey Mouse Club badge. Again…it’s just another fun snack that’s now available at Candy Palace. Mickey Mouse Club Caramel Apple Okay, we’ll admit that we took this home, but it’s basically your standard Disney caramel apple. These are kinda’ hard to eat on the go, so if you do get it, you might want to save it for later. Stay tuned to DFB for more.
