Yes, it’s crazy hot outside. But yes, there are options to steaming and standing in line for a ride. Orlando has many indoor attractions to fill the overheated vacation and staycation time. Here are five combo packs that offer direct sunlight only whilst you are moving from the car to the gate. Rihanna is among the popular singers represented in Madame Tussauds Orlando at Icon Park. (Madame Tussauds)Merlin minds Icon Park offers several 1-2 attractions punches, but consider a stroll through Madame Tussauds Orlando then winding through Sea Life Orlando Aquarium. They’re both in the large building at the base of Orlando Eye so there would be no heat or rain to fret about in between stops. All three of those attractions are owned by Merlin Entertainments, so there are ticket bundles available. Tussauds features wax-based replicas of famous folks ready for their close-ups and your selfies. A recent addition is a new version of Taylor Swift, one of 13 poses created for Tussauds outlets worldwide. Sea Life is home to creatures such as sharks, turtles, stingrays, jellyfish and seahorses, and the structural highlight is probably the Ocean Tunnel that gives dry landers an all-around look at underwater life. Merlin also runs Sea Life Florida Aquarium, which opened next door to Legoland Florida in Winter Haven earlier this year. More information: madametussauds.com and visitsealife.com The 1966 Batmobile and Batboat replicas are featured at the Orlando Auto Museum . (Dezerland Park)Go: Karts and cars At Dezerland Park, which bills itself as Florida’s largest indoor attraction, double up on driving-related activities. The building houses electric Go Kart courses, including a major hairpin. Nearby is the Orlando Auto Museum with 2,000 vehicles worth $200 million. Some are old and rare, some are big-screen famous and others are just, well, unusual. Those attractions are separately ticketed. There are additional Dezerland options, such as bowling, axe throwing, pinball, laser tag, movie theaters and Jumpstart, which blends sports and trampolining. More information: dezerlandpark.com. I-Drive visitors check out the new-to-Orlando black glass necklace at Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition last month. (Willie J. Allen Jr./Orlando Sentinel)Old and new tech More than a century ago, the Titanic, a modern sea-going marvel, sank in the Atlantic. Some 200 items (and replicas) from the liner are on display at Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition, including a formidable chunk of the ship’s actual hull. The attraction recently added a black-glass necklace recovered from the ocean floor and thought to be another possible relic from the ship. Tech today allows adventure in a headset. Moving south down International Drive from the Titanic attraction is Sandbox VR, newly open at Pointe Orlando. The attraction features headsets and full-body motion capture for experiences titled “Squid Game Virtuals,” “Amber Sky 2088” and “Curse of Davy Jones.” More information: titanicorlando.com and sandboxvr.com/orlando. Ripley Entertainment / Courtesy photoVisitors weave through Ripley's Mirror Maze. (Ripley Entertainment)Believe it times 2 It’s odd, and that’s OK. The Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum has a slew of items related to heavens and Earth, including a room devoted to the freak show that is Florida. But there’s also movie-making tributes and Feel Far Out, a space section, that shows off a 3,197-pound meteorite as well as a “Star Wars” lightsaber wielded on screen by Luke Skywalker. It’s next-door neighbor is sister attraction Ripley’s Mirror Maze, which messes with your mind with reflections (and reflections of reflections) and LEDs that distort the pathway through. Not coincidentally, Ripley’s daily cartoon for Monday told us that “the human brain is less capable of complex decision-making when it’s too hot outside.” More information: ripleys.com. A 1934 statue of the tiger mascot for Orlando High School is part of the 'Orlando Collected' exhibit at Orange County Regional History Center. The displays help mark the 150th birthday of Orlando. (Macbeth Studio/Orange County Regional History Center)Escape from I-Drive Two Orlando museums have fresh offerings, though walking between the two would not be recommended this week. The Orange County Regional History Center presents “Orlando Collected,” a gathering of items related to pop culture, politics, parks and more in honor of the 150th anniversary of the city’s founding. This Friday, the downtown museum has a “lunch and learn” session on the making of the exhibit. Meanwhile, Orlando Science Center (about 2.5 miles to the north in Loch Haven Park) has four levels of exhibits and films plus its current exhibit called “DC Superheroes: Discover Your Superpowers.” Capes are provided. A brand-new restaurant just opened at Disney World, and to say we’re obsessed would be an understatement. FREE FRIES?! Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina recently opened at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort, and we had a chance to check it out, bringing you our full review. And, while this restaurant has seen a lot of hype already, we don’t think enough people are talking about the FREE FRIES. Yep, you read that correctly. We had an incredible meal at the new Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina restaurant in Disney World. You can check out our full review here, but right now, we’re here to talk about something that we think all restaurants (like, everywhere in the whole world) should implement: complimentary fries. You know how restaurants often have free bread service that’s brought out after you order? Bourbon Steak Well, Bourbon Steak has that — but with fries. When we dined here, shortly after we ordered, we were brought out a complimentary fry trio. We were SO pleasantly surprised by this! Our server explained that Michael Mina loves to do things in trios, and he loves little flights of things, so this was naturally 3 fries and 3 sauces — kind of a great idea. Complimentary Fry Trio There were Truffle Aioli fries with a truffle aioli to dip in, regular Herbed Fries with regular ketchup, and then Paprika fries with the housemade bourbon barbecue sauce. All three of these were awesome. Our favorite was the truffle aioli — we completely killed them. The flavor is super strong, but not so strong that you wouldn’t want the aioli with it. Both were just kind of buttery, and the umami was incredibly intense, yet delicious. Truffle aioli The herbed fries were perfectly seasoned with the sweetness of ketchup, a classic fry experience. Herby and delicious Then, the paprika fries were really tasty on their own, and the barbecue sauce here is smoky and has a little bit of kick to it. It’s almost like a mesquite with just a little bit of kick, where it’s not spicy, but it’s enough to add some interest. SO fun Bourbon Steak offers a reimagined modern take on the quintessential American steakhouse with premium cuts of beef and seafood infused with global flavors, along with decadent signature desserts, and world-class beverage offerings. Chef Mina is a well-known chef who owns more than 40 restaurants worldwide. He has multiple Michelin stars and currently has other restaurants in Florida, including Bourbon Steak in Aventura and Prime 54 in Miami Beach. Center Cut Filet Mignon This is truly a beautiful restaurant. Feels classic AND modern. Upscale and comfortable. Not to mention, the service was amazing! They had 100% staff retention from Shula’s, and this team rules. It’s certainly expensive, even by Disney standards, so it’s probably best saved for a special occasion. Packing for Disney World can feel like a sport—strategic, exhausting, and absolutely worth it when you’ve nailed the essentials. VentaPak We’ve tested a LOT of travel gear over the years, and a few products seriously stood out. Whether you’re trying to maximize space, stay organized, or just not lose your sanity during rope drop, these are the packing MVPs we actually recommend. Let’s get into our favorites that make Disney packing way less stressful. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Carry-on Backpack Carry-on Backpack We were shocked by how much this backpack can actually hold. It’s technically a carry-on, but once you start packing, you’ll swear it’s part TARDIS. It fits a 15.6″ laptop (plus smaller sizes), has dry-wet compartments, and plenty of pockets to keep everything sorted—no more digging around for your MagicBand. It even has a charging hole so you can keep your phone juiced while in line for Rise of the Resistance. Bonus points for the anti-theft pocket (good for stashing your wallet or park tickets). It meets most airline personal item size rules, and if you don’t want to wear it, it converts into a mini suitcase. Oh—and it comes with two clear toiletry bags. We love a freebie. View on Amazon BAGSMART Toiletry Bag BAGSMART Travel Toiletry Bag You know the horror of opening your suitcase to find shampoo all over your clothes? This bag makes that nightmare a non-issue. It holds a ton of toiletries, makeup, and whatever other small things you’re traveling with, and the upright compartments keep your stuff from tipping over. The design is smart: the sides open fully, so you can actually see and access everything. There’s also dry-wet separation, a mesh zipper pocket, and the whole thing is super easy to clean. We tested it in hotel bathrooms and park bathrooms—it holds up. View on Amazon Ear Travel Case Ear Travel Case We didn’t know how badly we needed this until we had it. This cute pink chenille ear case protects up to eight pairs of mouse ears, which is perfect if you’re the kind of person who coordinates ears with outfits (us). It has inner straps to keep the ears in place, zippered compartments for extras, and even a shoulder strap to carry it hands-free. It also doubles as a snack bag or organizer for random accessories if you’re not packing ears this time. But really—if you’ve ever tried to stuff Minnie ears in your suitcase and bent them, this is your solution. View on Amazon Packing Cube with Neck Pillow Packing Cube with Neck Pillow This one had us doing a double take. It looks like a regular neck pillow, but unzip it and it turns into a secret clothing compartment. You can stuff 4–6 adult T-shirts inside (we tested it), zip it up, and boom—you’ve freed up space in your luggage and brought a travel pillow. The velvety fabric is soft, and it folds up small when not in use. Let’s be honest: it’s not the most luxurious neck pillow out there, but it’s definitely the most functional. View on Amazon BAGAIL 8 Set Packing Cubes ©Amazon You’ve heard of packing cubes before, but these? These are good packing cubes. They’re lightweight but durable, with a mesh top panel so you can actually see what’s inside. The zippers are sturdy, and they help you squeeze more into your suitcase without turning it into a total mess. We especially love using the small ones for separating outfits by park days (Magic Kingdom cube, EPCOT cube, you get the idea). The fabric is also water-repellent—so your clothes are safe if something leaks nearby. View on Amazon FROGG TOGGS Poncho Frogg Togg Poncho Florida weather is drama. One minute it’s sunny, the next you’re soaked. These Frogg Toggs ponchos are 100% waterproof, breathable, and lightweight. They come with their own stuff sack so they’re easy to throw in your bag, and they’re actually durable enough to reuse (unlike the thin plastic ones you grab in desperation for $12 at the park). The hood has adjustable cord locks, and side snaps help keep the wind and rain out. No regrets bringing this along, especially during those unpredictable afternoon showers. View on Amazon Loungefly Organizer Loungefly Organizer If you’ve ever tried to find something in your Loungefly mini backpack and ended up dumping everything on the ground at a bus stop, same. This insert organizer keeps all your stuff upright and easy to access. It has multiple pockets for things like lip balm, sunscreen, extra batteries, and hand sanitizer. It fits perfectly inside most Loungeflys, doesn’t make the bag bulky, and it’s super easy to pull in and out thanks to the little handle on the back. Total game changer for park days. It’s never too soon to introduce kids to the magic of nature and encourage actions that make a positive difference for our planet – whether big or small. And at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, young changemakers did just that by joining Disney Conservation cast members along with hundreds of guests at the Atlantic shoreline during the Sea Turtle Conservancy’s 18th annual Tour de Turtles event. What is the Tour de Turtles? Tour de Turtles at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort brings together researchers from the Sea Turtle Conservancy (STC) and Disney Conservation to track two female turtles as they make their way from the Disney Vacation Club resort back to the big ol’ blue after laying their eggs overnight. And this year’s sea turtles were named after the beloved Disney Princesses who love the ocean and its creatures – Ariel and Moana! Sponsored by Disney Cruise Line and the Disney Conservation Fund, Ariel – a green sea turtle – and Moana – a loggerhead sea turtle – are joining other sea turtles to see which will swim the furthest distance during a three-month span and win the Tour de Turtles race. The turtles are equipped with satellite trackers that will allow biologists to monitor them – this will provide valuable insights into their migration patterns so we can learn how to best protect this endangered species from habitat loss, pollution and other threats. Did you know? After spending years at sea, many sea turtles find their way back to the same beach where they were born to lay their own eggs. It’s called “natal homing” – how cool is that? Disney-sponsored turtles have collectively travelled around 55,000 miles total wearing satellite tags, helping us to learn more about sea turtle behaviors. Last year, loggerhead sea turtle Ebb took home the gold as the winner of Tour de Turtles, swimming more than 1,100 miles – the first-ever turtle sponsored by Disney to win! Bringing Together Young Innovators and Future Leaders This year, we welcomed our friend Jack – also known as “Kid Conservationist” to watch the release of the sea turtles as they swam off into the Atlantic Ocean. Jack is an amazing 15-year-old trailblazer from New Hampshire who is passionate about protecting the environment and spreading awareness about endangered species to inspire even more young people like him to get involved. “Seeing the sea turtles so close and learning about them at the same time was fascinating, said Jack. “It’s inspiring to see the work that Disney and the Sea Turtle Conservancy are doing to protect the species.” Disney Conservation cast members had the awesome opportunity to chat with Jack about what we do to help protect sea turtles – not only during nesting season but year-round, too. Since 2007, we’ve documented more than 1.8 million sea turtle hatchlings from over 24,000 nests near Disney’s Vero Beach Resort. Ongoing Disney support has also enabled advancements in science – new technology has been added to the satellite tags allowing us to track water temperature and the turtles’ dive patterns. “I grew up spending lots of time outdoors and really fell in love with nature from a young age,” shares Emily, who leads Disney’s Sea Turtle Conservation Program. “After visiting a sea turtle rehabilitation center in high school, I felt inspired to help these incredibly resilient and fascinating animals and their habitats. I’ve been lucky enough to spend my career studying them, but it takes more than me and my fellow researchers to protect them – it takes everyone.” Disney Cruise Line proudly supported local students from Club Esteem, a non-profit in Melbourne, Florida, dedicated to creating enriching and educational experiences. As part of the Sea Turtles Conservancy’s Sea Turtle Tech program, students participated in various beachside activities to learn more about sea turtle conservation during Tour de Turtles. “When the Sea Turtle Conservancy saw how much people, especially young people, enjoyed watching the migrations of sea turtles online, we knew this research could be used to raise broad awareness about sea turtles and the threats they face,” said David Godfrey, executive director of the Sea Turtle Conservancy. “Today, the Tour de Turtles is our most effective tool for reaching and inspiring young people to get involved in conservation. When you add in the amazing support and partnership with Disney, the Tour de Turtles becomes a powerful vehicle for expanding awareness and support for the protection of sea turtles and their habitats.” Hatch a Plan to Help Sea Turtles What can we do to make sure our planet’s habitats are safe places for sea turtles like Ariel and Moana? Simple actions like keeping our beaches clean, turning off lights near the shore at night, avoiding marked nests and knocking down sandcastles to create obstacle-free beaches can make a difference. You can even join a local conservation group, volunteer for beach cleanups, or adopt a turtle to support protection efforts. Every small action helps create a safer, healthier environment for sea turtles and coastal wildlife. “Every little bit counts when it comes to conservation,” shares Jack, the Kid Conservationist. “When one person takes a small step, we’re all able to make a difference – and it really adds up.” Participating in STC’s annual Tour de Turtles is just one example of bringing Disney Planet Possible to life by taking action to make a happier, healthier planet possible for all. To all the young conservationists and changemakers … stay curious, have the courage to make a difference, and most of all have fun! You never know where your journey may lead you. CONFIRMED: Disney Is Raising These Ticket Prices
Disney4me posted a topic in Disney Food/Restaurants
Attention potential Disney World travelers, if you’re planning on heading to the “Most Magical Place on Earth in the next year and a half, things may be a bit more expensive. Magic Kingdom While prices going up is normal, the company is taking a different approach than in the previous 6 years that I’ve covered Disney’s theme parks. Instead of raising prices across the board, Disney is further taking advantage of the dynamic pricing concept. Holiday Parties While the prices for regular theme park tickets are locked for the rest of the calendar year of 2025 (don’t worry, we’ll get to 2026), those considering going to this year’s installment of the Magic Kingdom’s beloved Holiday parties may be in for some sticker shock when it comes to pricing. Tickets for the 2025 installment of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party range from $119 to $229, depending on the date. In comparison, 2024’s tickets ranged from $119 to $199, also depending on the date. Meaning that while the cheapest dates remained the same, the most in-demand dates increased by $30. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party A similar uptick occurred with Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Tickets for that event cost between $169 to $229, depending on the date. While the low-end $169 price point remained the same as 2024, last year’s ceiling was $219, meaning that the cost to attend the most expensive nights has risen by $10. Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks 2026 Tickets Moving into next year, it may seem on the surface like Disney World’s ticket prices didn’t change between 2025 and 2026, as the overall range for single-day tickets remains $119-$199. Slinky Dog Dash Specifically, when divided by park, the ranges are as follows: Magic Kingdom: $139 to $199 EPCOT: $129 to $184 Disney’s Hollywood Studios: $139 to $194 Disney’s Animal Kingdom: $119 to $179 In fact there are technically two decreases on the above list as the Magic Kingdom’s least expensive days fell from $144 to $139, and EPCOT’s most expensive single day tickets went from $194 to $184. EPCOT However, thanks to Disney’s dynamic pricing model, there’s a schism between perception and reality. While the ranges are roughly the same as 2025, many dates see higher prices within those ranges. For example, 25 of 31 days in January 2026 have a higher “highest price” than their counterpart in 2025. The theme continues through the majority of the year, with the glaring exception of July, August, and September, when most days are at the higher end of the price spectrum but slightly lower than their 2025 counterparts. Animal Kingdom If you’re planning on visiting Disney World in 2026, or trying to squeeze in a holiday party in 2025, be forewarned that ticket prices are going to be higher than you’re used to. We’ve got excellent news for you Disney World Annual Passholders out there (and as a passholder myself, I couldn’t be more excited)! Disney World Annual Pass Disney had updated its Park Pass Reservation rules for Annual Passholders ahead of the debut of the new Disney Starlight Parade, requiring them to have a theme park reservation for Magic Kingdom at any time of day (including after 2 PM when it usually lifts). But, Disney has officially removed that requirement! Heads up, Annual Passholders! Disney has ended the limited-time theme park reservation requirements for Magic Kingdom. Things have reverted back to how they were prior to this change. Annual Passholders can visit the theme parks without a park reservation on Good-to-Go Days or after 2 PM — except on Saturdays and Sundays at Magic Kingdom. ©Disney This change was implemented because Disney anticipated some serious crowds for the debut of the new nighttime parade, Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away. But, now that some of the excitement has died off, Disney has lifted the requirement. Disney Starlight This new parade will take place at 9 PM and 11 PM, except on nights with specialty parades, such as Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Unlike other Magic Kingdom parades, this one will begin on Main Street and will end in Frontierland — usually it’s the opposite. Mickey! Disney Starlight will feature beloved characters from Walt Disney Animation Studios and Disney Pixar films, and some will be making their nighttime parade debut! As it begins, Disney Starlight will be “brought to life by the magic of the Blue Fairy” from the Disney animated classic, Pinocchio. Blue Fairy Parade viewers will see Disney characters from Walt Disney Animation Studios films such as Encanto, Frozen, and Peter Pan. (You’ll see Wendy, too!) Let me start by saying: this thing came out on a literal boat. Welcome to EPCOT! No exaggeration. We sat down for what we thought would be a casual sushi meal at Shiki-Sai: Sushi Izakaya in EPCOT’s Japan Pavilion — and instead got hit with what can only be described as a full-blown sushi event. The $300 Fune (which, yes, means “boat”) was loaded, borderline ridiculous, and 100% one of the most over-the-top things we’ve eaten in EPCOT. Was it worth it? Absolutely — if you do it right. The Boat (Yes, Really) The Fune is a massive wooden sushi boat meant to serve 4–6 people. We were three people. We took one look at the thing and immediately started doing sushi math. You know, that quick internal calculation where you ask yourself how much raw fish you can reasonably consume before you either tap out or need a nap in the Japan Pavilion’s serene gardens. Fune Boat at Shiki-Sai The boat was beautiful. Like, stop-what-you’re-doing-and-stare beautiful. It was packed with sashimi, rolls, shrimp, roe, and garnishes arranged so precisely it felt wrong to dig in. But dig in we did. Some of the sashimi options were so fresh they practically melted as soon as they hit your tongue. The sushi rolls weren’t anything wildly inventive, but they were solid, tasty, and exactly what you want when you’re deep in Disney mode and looking for quality. Sushi There was a roll packed with avocado that was creamy and balanced, and another one (tucked right at the bow of the boat) that surprised us with a little extra kick. You’ve also got shrimp, a healthy dose of tobiko (fish roe), and some extremely photogenic garnishes. Every piece was artfully arranged, and the whole spread screamed “special occasion.” Was It the Best Sushi We’ve Ever Had? Here’s where we’re gonna keep it real. If you’re comparing this to high-end omakase spots or EPCOT’s own Takumi-Tei, no—it doesn’t quite hit that level. The fish quality is good, but it’s not transcendent. But that’s not really what this is about. Roll You’re paying for a combo of quality, quantity, and spectacle. The boat itself becomes part of the experience—this isn’t a quiet little sushi night. This is a “look at that thing” moment. People stared when it came out. Our server looked like they were presenting a trophy. And we were more than happy to receive it. Sushi It’s the kind of thing you do when you’re with a group, celebrating something, or just want to go big and have fun with your food. But $300?? We get it. Three hundred dollars sounds wild, especially for sushi inside a theme park. But let’s put it into perspective. More sashimi This thing feeds 4–6 people comfortably. If you’re with a group of friends or family and splitting the cost, it becomes much more reasonable. You’re essentially paying around $50–$75 per person for a full meal of fresh sushi with a killer presentation—and in EPCOT, where a regular quick service meal can easily hit $25, that’s not as far-fetched as it sounds. You need to be brave to enjoy this! Would we do it again with just two people? Probably not, unless we were going for a “let’s go all out” kind of experience. But with a group? 100% yes. It’s fun, it’s filling, and honestly, it’s the kind of Disney dining memory that sticks with you long after the sashimi’s gone. Pro Tips If You’re Thinking About It Go hungry. Like, really hungry. You want to be ready for this. Split it. The Fune is 100% a group experience. Get at least four people to help take it down. Don’t expect omakase-level sushi. This is EPCOT sushi, not Tokyo fine dining. But it’s still solid. Take your time. This isn’t a grab-and-go meal. Soak in the vibes, enjoy the view, and make it an experience. Fune Boat at Shiki-Sai — Beautiful! So yeah, we spent $300 on sushi in the middle of a theme park. And we’re not sorry about it. The Fune at Shiki-Sai is a splurge, for sure — but it’s also something completely unique that you’re not going to find at many other theme park restaurants (or anywhere else, really). If you’re into sushi, love sharing food with a group, and want something fun and over-the-top on your next EPCOT visit? This boat’s waiting for you. WHOA! Who’s ready for some fantastic snack news?! The Fantastic Four: First Steps has officially been released in theaters, and Disney is celebrating! It’s Reed and Sue! If you’re visiting Disneyland soon, you can meet these superheroes in the park for a limited time, and of course, there are some fantastic new eats and treats to check out, too. Speaking of which, we recently checked a couple of these new snacks out, and we’re bringing you our full review! We stopped by Pym Test Kitchen at Disney California Adventure to check out some of the NEW Fantastic Four eats that just dropped! First up, we grabbed the Fantastic Elastic Mozzarella Stick for $14.49, which is served with sour cream and onion ranch. Oh, and did we mention that it’s completely BLUE?! Fantastic Elastic Mozzarella Stick This was a solid giant mozzarella stick, and it definitely makes for good photos — but it wasn’t anything special. If you’re looking for something warm and cheesy, though, this should do the trick! We’d also recommend splitting it with someone as it’s rather large, but we won’t judge you for eating the whole thing yourself. The ranch wasn’t anything special, but it was a fun upgrade from the normal marinara sauce you’d expect. If you’d prefer marinara sauce, you might be disappointed. Oh, and yes. It WILL dye your mouth blue for the rest of the day. Surprisingly not bad Of course, we had to grab some dessert, too, so we ordered the Invisible Indulgence. This is a clear lemon pie with a shortbread crust, whipped cream, and meringue pieces for $7.59. Invisible Indulgence This is a great choice if you’re looking for a lighter dessert option. It’s basically lemon JELL-O on top of a shortbread crust. The meringue pieces don’t have much flavor, but they do have a light and airy texture, and they provide a good crunch. The lemon had a sweeter rather than tart flavor, and the whipped cream also helped offset any sour or tart flavor. We were surprised by how much we actually enjoyed this. It’s CLEAR We’ll be on the lookout for more fun and exciting Disney eats to review for you. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more! ESPN8: The Ocho to Bring Crazy Competitions to Disney World
Disney4me posted a topic in Disney Blogs
ESPN8: The Ocho at Walt Disney World ESPN8: The Ocho will bring seldom-seen sports to Walt Disney World on Aug. 1. Dodgeball, Pillow Fighting, Slippery Stairs among competitions that are part of The Ocho. Guests can attend and watch the event at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at no cost. Have you ever seen people try to race up a flight of soapy and slippery stairs? Ever seen a pillow fight where they keep score? Well, get ready to watch a wacky and wild day of competitions like these at Walt Disney World Resort, because ESPN is bringing ESPN8: The Ocho to ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at The Most Magical Place on Earth. The Ocho is the sports network’s annual zany showcase of seldom-seen sports like Dodgeball, Pillow Fighting and Slippery Stairs. It’s all happening this Friday at the sports complex where you’ll have the chance to watch some of the world’s best kickballers, bullshooters (electronic darts), and more, and be part of the competitive atmosphere that will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks. And best of all, there’s no cost to attend! You can find more information including ticketing details and event schedules by visiting the event page. Advanced registration is not required, but it is encouraged. This is the ninth year ESPN has transformed into ESPN8: The Ocho and every year it’s gotten bigger and better. This year’s event is loaded with unique competitions and athletes who take their sport seriously, hoping to show the world their incredible skills at sports like Paintball, Omegaball (soccer with three teams and three goals) and Extreme Archery (think archery + dodgeball). Oh, and did I mention you’ll have a chance to be part of the TV experience for these obscure sports? ESPN will be broadcasting each competition live from the sports complex on August 1 along with “The Ocho Show” and a special edition of their signature highlight show, “SportsCenter.” Here’s a sneak peek at the schedule* for this out-of-the-ordinary day at Walt Disney World: Major League Paintball (10 a.m.): The day starts with elite paintball teams adding a splash of color to the festivities with their precision combat techniques. NWLA Wiffleball (11 a.m.): Not your elementary school gym class version of wiffleball. You’ll be amazed at these athletes’ ability to make the ball virtually unhittable. Omegaball (12 p.m.): A fast-paced, high-scoring version of soccer where three teams compete at the same time with three different goals. TurfWars Adult Kickball (1 p.m.): Good ol’ fashioned adult kickball played at the highest level. SportsCenter (2 p.m.): ESPN’s signature highlight show hosted by Randy Scott and Gary Striewski. Bullshooter (3 p.m.): You might have played a version of this game with soft-tipped darts and an electronic dart board. These athletes are just better at it. The Ocho Show (4 p.m.): Hosted by Clinton Yates, Arda Öcal and Cristina Alexander, the show offers interviews, behind-the-scenes moments and coverage from across the venue. The Popdarts Championship presented by APL (5 p.m.): Combining the fun of suction cups with the excitement of throwing things at a small target. This might become your next favorite backyard party game. Slippery Stairs (6 p.m.): Gravity and ultra-slippery soap are the real opponents in this hilarious head-to-head competition that features multiple competitors attempting to ascend a staircase. Extreme Archery Championship presented by Archery Tag (7 p.m.): A cross between archery and sports like paintball or laser tag. But don’t worry, this extreme sport uses soft arrows and plenty of protective gear, including helmets. Dodgeball (8 p.m.): The thrilling high-octane team sport from your youth played by world-class athletes. This might be the most intense competition of the event (and the one I’m looking forward to watching the most). Pop-A-Shot 2025 National Championship (9 p.m.): The classic basketball arcade game played in a head-to-head format. Last year’s winner was a 37-year-old who averaged an incredible 69 shots per round! Pillow Fighting (10 p.m.): As a father of two boys, I’ve spent plenty of time breaking up pillow fights. Now I’m looking forward to cheering on the competitors. I wonder if the competitors will wear uniforms or adult onesie pajamas. These events at Walt Disney World on August 1 are part of a larger four-day celebration of absurd athleticism taking place around the country. More than 65 hours of competitions will be featured on ESPN channels from July 31 through Aug. 3, including two Savannah Bananas baseball games that will be shown live in primetime from Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore. You can find more information on the full broadcast schedule here. The live competitions of ESPN8: The Ocho at Walt Disney World will likely create an unforgettable day of fun for the entire family. Entry to the event is free and there will be food, drinks and special merchandise for sale. So, come on out to ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on August 1 and celebrate the world’s best seldom-seen sports! *Events and schedule subject to change. Every year we hope it’ll be different, but nope — it’s the same old sleigh ride. Fireworks for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party We’re talking about Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom. Yes, it’s magical. Yes, it’s festive. But at this point, it’s starting to feel like Disney is just coasting on nostalgia and sugar cookies. If you’ve been before, you already know what’s coming… and if you haven’t? Well, buckle up, because this holiday trend is officially out of control. Same Party, Different Year Let’s get this out of the way first: MVMCP is still fun. The snow on Main Street, the parade, the fireworks — they all bring that cozy Disney magic we love during the holidays. The parade at night. But we can’t ignore the fact that the party really hasn’t changed over the years. Literally, the only updates we’re seeing lately are new snacks and treats. That’s it. No new shows. No updated parade. No fresh overlays on rides. Just another cocoa and cookie. FREE Cookies and Cocoa! For guests who’ve never been, this all probably sounds great — and to be fair, it’s still a solid first-time experience. But for Annual Passholders and locals who’ve been attending this party year after year? There’s nothing extra pulling us back in. And considering how expensive these tickets have gotten, you’d think Disney might throw us a bone with something new each season. The Ticket Prices Keep Climbing… But the Party Doesn’t We’re not expecting Disney to overhaul the event every year, but the pricing keeps creeping higher without any major additions to justify it. If you’ve looked at ticket prices lately, you know they’re creeping into premium territory — some nights pushing over $220 per person. That’s a lot to pay for the same entertainment lineup we’ve had for years. Club Tinsel The reality is, Disney knows they’ll sell out tickets regardless. And they’re not wrong — plenty of families plan their trips around MVMCP and will pay the premium for the experience. But if Disney wants to keep locals and repeat guests coming back (and maybe avoid those last-minute unsold party nights), adding something new every year wouldn’t hurt. Food Can’t Carry the Whole Party Yes, the new holiday treats are fun, and we’re all for themed food. But let’s be honest — snacks alone aren’t enough to make the night feel fresh. You can only do so many red-and-green treats before it starts feeling like a copy-paste from the year before. The party has so much potential. Why not rotate in a new stage show? Add a holiday twist to more attractions? Bring in some rare character meet-and-greets that actually change each year? Smoky Chocolate Brownie Sundae The food has become the one “new” thing at each party, but it’s basically doing all the heavy lifting — and that’s not sustainable. Locals Are Tapping Out Here’s the thing: a lot of locals and APs want to keep going to MVMCP. It’s nostalgic. It’s tradition. But Disney isn’t making it easy. When nothing changes year to year, it becomes a hard sell. We’re already in the parks regularly. We’ve seen the parade. We’ve done the ride overlays. We’ve watched the fireworks. If there’s no reason to return, we’re not dropping $220+ just to grab a hot cocoa and cookie trail we’ve already walked a dozen times. Full Spread You’d think Disney would want to hook repeat visitors with something exciting. A new photo op. A rotating holiday mini-show. Even a different fireworks finale every couple of years. Something that says, “Hey, this year’s party is worth coming back for.” What Needs to Change Let’s be clear — we’re not asking Disney to reinvent the wheel. The bones of MVMCP are solid. But with a few tweaks, they could breathe new life into the event. Here’s what we’d love to see: A refreshed stage show with newer characters A rotating lineup of rare characters at meet-and-greets each year A new float or element in the parade that actually changes annually More holiday overlays on attractions—not just the same handful every year An interactive element that gives guests something new to discover throughout the night Christmas time is here! Just one or two of those would go a long way toward making the party feel fresh again. Right now, it feels like Disney is stuck in a loop of doing the bare minimum — and the cracks are starting to show. Bottom Line We love Christmas at Disney World. And Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party has given us some amazing memories over the years. But if Disney doesn’t start mixing things up, this party might lose the very magic that made it special in the first place. If you’re planning your first trip, you’ll probably still have a blast. But if you’ve been before? Don’t be surprised if the night feels a little too familiar. The parade is a must! Will you be attending Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party this year? The Fantastic Four: First Steps landed in theaters on July 25th and has already broken box office records! ©Marvel If you’re visiting Disneyland soon, you can meet these superheroes in the park for a limited time, and you don’t want to miss the exclusive snacks you can grab for the film at select theaters. Speaking of seeing the movie in theaters, we knew that a couple of new popcorn buckets would be released at AMC — but we can’t believe people are actually paying $80 (!!!) for this one. The new Galactus Popcorn Vessel landed at AMC Theatres at the same time as The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and we honestly can’t believe people are paying $80 for it. This thing is MASSIVE, measuring in at 20″ wide (9.6″ wide without horns), 17.5″ tall, and 9.6″ deep, it’s seriously one of the biggest popcorn buckets we’ve ever seen. ©AMC Theatres Marketed as AMC’s “largest popcorn container ever,” the Galactus Popcorn Bucket includes LED light-up eyes and removable horns. It’s broken both size and price records for popcorn buckets, which makes it pretty collectible. In addition, the bucket holds a massive 9 liters, or 361 oz., of popcorn and is shaped like the movie’s villain — Galactus. ©AMC Theatres You can also purchase this popcorn bucket online from AMC Theatres, and it’s available for preorder now. The final production of this bucket will include a special Holographic sticker, with Guinness World Records authenticating this as being the BIGGEST popcorn bucket made, along with a printed certificate! SCARY Ben Fritz, journalist from The Wall Street Journal, told NPR that these snack and drink vessels have “very big profit margins,” and have made a big difference for theaters looking to recover from pandemic-era losses: “They’re essentially well-designed pieces of plastic, and they’re selling them for 50 bucks, 80 bucks… It’s a good profit for the theaters.” ©AMC Theaters In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more ridiculous popcorn buckets you need to know about! It’s certainly no secret that Disney World is HOT during the summer. Japan Pavilion We’re always looking for ways to cool down, whether it’s with the latest park bag essentials, some ice-cold air-conditioning (looking at you, Carousel of Progress!), or a refreshing snack. Luckily for us (and you!), an iconic frozen treat has returned to the Japan Pavilion at EPCOT, and we’re bringing you our FULL review! The Violet Sake Slush is BACK at Kabuki Cafe! It costs $15. It’s essentially the same as its namesake, only made with shaved ice! Violet Sake Slush If you are a fan of the original Violet Sake from Garden House in the Japan Pavilion, you are absolutely gonna go bonkers over this slush. It’s essentially the kakigori shaved ice that you can also get at Kabuki Cafe, but with the flavor of the Violet Sake — which is primarily desert pear. In fact, when it melts, it really just becomes a slightly melted-down regular Violet Sake. It’s just a really fun take on the iconic Japan Pavilion drink, and especially refreshing in this heat! SO good! If you’re looking for the classic Violet Sake cocktail right now, you’ll have to know where to go! The outside location of Garden House is not open right now, and the bar has temporarily moved inside Mitsukoshi, where you’ll find the food and snack items in that store. Temporary location for Garden House Don’t worry, though. You’ll still be able to order your favorite cocktails, including a special cocktail flight and the Kyoho Calpico Cocktail. Try the flight! In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more snacks to review around EPCOT and beyond. Make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more. Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex has landed near the very top of the 2025 Travelers’ Choice Awards for “best of the best things to do.” In fact, it was the highest-ranking U.S. attraction. The visitor complex, based in Brevard County, was listed at No. 3 worldwide, trailing only Barcelona’s La Sagrada Familia, the largest unfinished Catholic church in the world, and the famed Eiffel Tower in Paris. Runners-up on the U.S. attractions list were the Empire State Building, Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee, New York’s Central Park and then two more Florida entries: Stetson Mansion in DeLand and John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo. That’s heady company. “We’re thrilled that families and explorers alike are embracing the journey we offer our visitors, from past missions to future frontiers,” Therrin Protze, chief operating officer of Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, said in a news release. The best of the best is awarded to places that earn a high volume of above-and-beyond reviews and opinions from the Tripadvisor community over a 12-month period, the Tripadvisor website says. Out of its 8 million listings, less than 1% achieve the “best of best” label. Perhaps more jarring to the citizens of the Theme Park Capital of the World, is the standing of Magic Kingdom, considered the most visited theme park in the world. It ranked 16th on the global list for amusement parks and water parks. Walt Disney World’s original park finished behind attractions in United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Germany, France, Malaysia, two in Singapore, three in United Kingdom, three in Brazil plus Dollywood of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. The global list is topped by Ferrari World Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. The only other Central Florida attraction on that list was Disney’s Hollywood Studios at No. 21. On the USA-only list, there are Universal’s Islands of Adventure at No. 5, followed by the Fun Spot America attraction in Kissimmee in sixth. Other Florida finishers were Universal Studios (No. 8) and Busch Gardens Tampa Bay (No. 12). Legoland Florida is listed at No. 8 among “family-friendly” travel activities in the U.S. (No. 18 on the global list). The Tripadvisor writeup for Kennedy Space Center lauded its Space Shuttle Atlantis exhibit, the Rocket Garden, the IMAX theater and the possibility of meeting an astronaut. The visitor complex recently added the Gantry at LC-39 – which includes a test-fire simulator, an interactive rocket-build exercise, the Earth Information Center and views of launch pads – to its standard bus tour. The Travelers’ Choice Awards have several more listings, including categories for water sports, day cruises, food & drink, nature & outdoors, cultural & historic and bucket-list experiences. Park hopping is a popular practice among guests looking to maximize each day at Disney World, but the process is a bit complicated at Disney World’s most popular park this summer. Disney Starlight crowds! It’s no secret that Magic Kingdom is buzzing right now, thanks to the incredible debut of “Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away!” The show premiered on July 20th to plenty of fanfare, drawing in some hefty crowds. In anticipation of the park becoming more crowded, Disney World adjusted Magic Kingdom’s attendance rules — which, undoubtedly, have caused some confusion. “Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away” will be garnering massive crowds for a while, causing Disney World to implement a special reservation rule for Magic Kingdom. Disney Starlight Per Disney, for a limited time, Disney World Annual Passholders can only visit Magic Kingdom with a theme park reservation due to the show’s high demand. ©Disney With that said, this new rule DOES NOT APPLY TO PARK HOPPING. Confusing, right? Disney Royalty Float Essentially, what this means is that as long as you have a reservation to one of the other three parks and scan in first there, you can still hop over to Magic Kingdom at any time of day WITHOUT a park reservation. The main change here is that you cannot start at Magic Kingdom without a reservation — period. Disney Starlight The difference here is that while you used to be able to enter Magic Kingdom without a reservation after 2PM on weekdays, you can’t do that anymore. You either have to have a reservation for Magic Kingdom to enter at any time of day, or you have to have already been to another park with a reservation and then hop to Magic Kingdom. Disney Starlight Of course, like every day, the park could reach capacity and you may not be let in — that is a very rare situation, though. You can check the theme park reservation calendar, the Annual Passholder Admissions calendar, and/or the home screen of the My Disney Experience app. Disney Starlight — Coco Float Park hopping also remains subject to availability. If you intend on visiting another park first and hopping over to Magic Kingdom later in the afternoon, you could still get turned away if the park is at capacity. With the demand for the new show being high, the probability of that happening slightly increases. Disney Starlight As we previously mentioned, this rule change is NOT permanent. However, we don’t know when it will be lifted. We’ll update you with that info as soon as it’s made available. Have you seen the new “Disney Starlight” parade? Do you plan on seeing it soon? Magic Kingdom is looking a whole lot different right now! Magic Kingdom is about to get bigger Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is closed for refurbishment until 2026, the Disney Villains are currently plotting their takeover, and Tom Sawyer Island just recently closed forever. We’ve been keeping a close eye on the construction at Tom Sawyer Island, and now it looks like another abandoned attraction — the Liberty Square Riverboat — is back on the move! We’ve got a brand new look at the current state of the Liberty Square Riverboat, along with the rafts that once transported park visitors to Tom Sawyer Island. Thanks to our friend @bioreconstruct on Twitter/X, we can see that the riverboat and rafts have been moved since the last time they were spotted. They’re currently located in a section of Magic Kingdom service canal that’s being drained. via @bioreconstruct on Twitter/X The last time she was spotted, she was located in a different section of the canal, so it appears the riverboat and the Tom Sawyer Island rafts are on the move. Tom Sawyer Island, the Rivers of America, and the Liberty Belle closed permanently on July 7th, 2025. Magic Kingdom Piston Peak, a Cars-inspired land, will be replacing these attractions. ©Bioreconstruct At some point in 2027, we will eventually see a new Cars Land called Piston Peak. The area is inspired by National Parks — primarily Rocky Mountain National Park. The name of Piston Peak stems from the fictional land, Piston Peak National Park, from the 2014 Disney film Planes: Fire & Rescue (which is part of the Cars universe). Piston Peak ©Disney New attractions, stores, and food and beverage spots will be part of this new land. Guests can look forward to two NEW Cars attractions! Get ready to race through the mountains on wild terrain along mountain trails as you dodge geysers and splash through mud holes on an exciting and thrilling rally race ride. Disney also shared that the second ride will be geared toward “smaller racers” and will be fun for the whole family! @Disney We’ll be on the lookout for more updates on the transformation of Tom Sawyer Island to Piston Peak National Park. Listen, I’ve been to Magic Kingdom COUNTLESS times, but when I tell you I’ve never seen construction at this level before, I mean it. And guess what? It’s about to get MORE intense. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Magic Kingdom has THREE big construction projects happening right now — Piston Peak, Villains Land, and the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad refurbishment, but there’s another one that’s about to be added to the list. If you love this Tomorrowland attraction as much as we do, you’ve got to ride it in the next week before it changes forever! Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will close for a lengthy refurbishment on August 4th to implement new scenes, ride vehicles, and more into the attraction. That means the final day of operation for this edition of the ride is August 3rd. Tomorrowland A number of things are changing with this attraction, starting with the ride vehicles themselves! They’ll be rethemed to have colors in theme with Buzz Lightyear and Star Command, and will also get new video monitors that provide real-time scoring updates. ©Disney The way you play the game in the attraction is changing too! Now, you’ll use new handheld blasters to make it easier to aim and fire, which will also have an “always-on laser” that comes in two different colors per vehicle, as well as new lighting, sound, and vibration effects. And the targets you shoot at? They’ll be updated to react and light up when hit so it’s easier to tell when you’re earning points. ©Disney Finally, there’s an all-new scene being added! It’ll include a friendly robot named Buddy who will greet you and play a key role on the Star Command team. He’ll help walk you through how to play before the ride really begins. ©Disney We’re really excited to see this new version of the ride, but we know it’ll cause some more crowds in Tomorrowland, so it’s something you’ll want to keep in mind!
