  1. Walt Disney World is in the midst of a massive transformation, with 2026 currently scheduled to see several huge changes come to rides around the resort. ©Disney Over my 30+ years visiting Walt Disney World’s theme parks, I’ve seen countless changes. However, I can’t say I remember many times when there were this many concurrent projects running across the resort. While some of these changes remain years away, others are penciled in to arrive next year. Dinosaur: February 2nd, 2026 The attraction, which opened with Animal Kingdom in April 1998 as Countdown to Extinction, is set to close forever on February 2nd, with the final rides to guests being offered on February 1st. The Animal Kingdom staple is going to be refurbished into an Indiana Jones attraction as part of the park’s new Tropical Americas addition. Restaurantosaurus will also close on the same day, completing the full closure of Dinoland U.S.A. Dinosaur Big Thunder Mountain: 2026 The “Wildest Ride in the Wilderness” has been closed since January 6th, 2025, during which time the E-Ticket attraction has been undergoing a massive refurbishment that will improve the ride’s infrastructure and add new show elements, including a new take on the classic Disneyland Rainbow Caverns. The Magic Kingdom coaster is scheduled to reopen in 2026. ©Disney Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin: 2026 Tomorrowland’s Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin closed in August 2025 for a refurbishment that will see new ride vehicles, new blasters, and a new scene featuring a parks original robot character named Buddy who will ensure “departing Space Rangers are fully prepared for their mission (by) enthusiastically providing encouragement, final system checks on their Star Cruisers and a chance to hone their blaster aim” added to the ride. It’s scheduled to reopen in 2026. New concept art featuring Buddy the Robot! Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster/Muppets Coaster: 2026 2026 will also see the transformation of the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster into its new Muppet incarnation, which will feature the Electric Mayhem “playing some of the most iconic, rockin’ hits in your ears to keep the music and adrenaline pumping” during the ride, as well as a new pre-show. Rock ‘n Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets ©Disney Carousel of Progress: 2026 At the 2025 Destination D23 event, Disney announced that the Magic Kingdom’s Carousel of Progress would soon undergo a massive refurbishment that would touch on all acts of the show and add a Walt Disney animatronic to a new introduction scene. While no date was specified, it was intimated that the project would be completed by 2026. ©Disney Changes are coming quickly to Walt Disney World, with several major ride alterations coming to the resort in 2026. 2. As Disney experts, we keep our eyes on a lot of different elements that can affect your vacation. We know all the wait times for Disney World and track ride trends so that you know when to ride each attraction and know when Lightning Lanes are most expensive. We also track park reservations to see if there’s anything out of the ordinary. What can we say? We love to help! Hey, Mickey! Well, today is one of those days when we have some news to share. We found some random dates when Park Pass reservations at Disneyland are not available, and well, the sold-out dates might surprise you! The Inspire Key is the highest-tiered Annual Pass, also known as Magic Key, at Disneyland and has the fewest blockout dates — but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any. On September 26th, only Disneyland Park is currently available, with reservations for Disney California Adventure totally booked up. Of course, more Park Pass availability could open up, so keep checking the calendar! Disneyland 70th anniversary On October 3rd, the sold-out date situation is the opposite of what we noticed above, where you can go to Disney California Adventure and not Disneyland Park. October 31st, Halloween, is booked for both parks, which makes sense since people love to spend the holidays at Disneyland, no matter the holiday! ©Disney Another date that has us scratching our heads is November 11th, when Disneyland Park is full and Disney California Adventure is open. As we get closer to Christmas reservations opening, if you want to go to the parks, make sure you’re booking those reservations so you don’t miss your chance. While it might feel silly to book reservations months out, if you know you’ll want to go, this will help ensure that the whole family will be able to visit together. Disney California Adventure There’s a lot of fun happening right now at Disneyland, including the Halloween season! One of my favorite parts is the Haunted Mansion Holiday, where Jack and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas take over the mansion with their own creepy twist. Haunted Mansion Holiday Soon enough, it will turn into Christmas time, which always feels magical. There are lots of Christmas trees, sparkling lights, and special ride overlays, like “it’s a small world” Holiday, which makes the ride even more special. “it’s a small world” Holiday Oh, and don’t forget — Disney has some STRICT rules for Magic Key Holders when it comes to Park Pass Reservations. According to the official Disneyland website, Magic Key holders who are a no-show for three reservations in any 90-day window will be unable to make new park reservations or modify existing park reservations for 30 days. Basically, this means once you make those reservations, you’d better be COMMITTED. Learn more about the rules for Magic Key Holders HERE! This park can get crowded! We’ll be keeping our eyes on other dates to see if more park reservations are filling up. Make sure you keep following Disney Food Blog for more. 3. Disney Imagineers have always been on the forefront of technology. You can see some of the newest technological advances they’ve made in Disney Parks right now, like the cute little wandering robots in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland and Disney World (which are actually a super feat of engineering). ©Meta Or maybe you witnessed the giant Hulk meet and greet in Disneyland. We’re also still blown over by the rollerblading robot Imagineering has demonstrated a few times. Well, something else that Disney Imagineers have been working on is AI glasses — the very same glasses that Meta has developed with Ray-Ban. Walt Disney Imagineering was an early partner in helping bring Meta’s AI glasses to life. In an announcement via LinkedIn, the company spoke about how it is always trying to create ever-more immersive stories and experiences. Disney also stated, “The use of Ray-Ban Meta glasses in our parks will help guests to remain fully present, augmenting the park, rather than distracting from it.” Consider us intrigued! ©Meta Does this mean we could see AR (augmented reality) Disney overlays in Magic Kingdom someday? Maybe we’ll be able to enjoy the infamous Cinderella Castle CAKE makeover without actually sacrificing the view of the normal Cinderella Castle. Glasses on? Cake Castle. Glasses off? Normal Cinderella Castle? Do you see the vision? Come on, Disney! Make this happen! It was definitely a sight to behold! Not only did Disney Imagineers help create these new AI glasses, but it seems like the company also has a plan on how to incorporate them into the parks in the future. But how? Meta AI glasses have open-ear speakers, hands-free camera capture, and an on-the-go AI assistant that’s voice-activated. Imagine how this could change your experience in the park. We can imagine that the AI assistant alone could get you instant access to ride wait times and even show you the quickest way to get around the parks — the possibilities are endless. AI glasses could make navigating the parks even easier What really intrigues us is that the glasses also have AR functionality, which is something that could be incorporated into rides, shows, or even fireworks demonstrations, making them something TOTALLY next-level. There’s so much potential in this new tech that we’re sure Disney is already trying to figure out how to integrate the use of AI glasses in its parks. Disney Imagineering added, “We’re excited for the future opportunities this technology unlocks—and how it can inspire entirely new guest experiences.” We’re excited, too! ©Disney In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. 3 CLUES About Disney’s Mysterious NEW Virtual Reality Treadmill Floor Technology Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 5. Y’all…we’ve got some big EPCOT news, and it has nothing to do with rides (although we’re still in shock at the lines for the new Test Track). Frozen S’mores As you may know, the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival is happening NOW through November 22nd, and we’ve already visited alllll the food booths…or have we? Actually, we haven’t because a new food booth, Festival Favorites, just opened TODAY, September 21st, and it includes a brand-new menu item that we can’t wait to try! OK, so technically it’s not a new item, as this is a booth starring the Festival’s greatest hits, but it’s new to the Festival Favorites lineup. Enough talking — let’s take a look! Yes, a brand new booth has arrived in CommuniCore Hall for the Festival, and it’s bringing us a menu of old favorites! Let’s start with some old faves. The Kielbasa and Potato Pierogis with caramelized onions and sour cream are so good that we even have a recipe so we can make them at home. You can say we’re big fans. In the past, we’ve found the meat to be super flavorful and tender, and the cheese topping is always a standout (but then again, we LOVE cheese). Kielbasa and Potato Pierogis The Curry-spiced Fried Cheese with mango-curry ketchup is “new” to Festival Favorites this year (it’s coming from the India booth from past Festivals). We’re looking forward to trying it soon, so you’ll want to keep an eye out for our review. Curry-Spiced Crispy Cheese with Mango-Curry Ketchup Let’s take a look at the drinks coming to the booth. The Frozen S’mores is back. This is a chocolate milkshake with marshmallow syrup topped with mini marshmallows and a graham cracker. This is a kid-pleaser that is a chocolate milkshake at its core, and it may even be better when it gets all melty. Frozen S’mores We’re also super excited about the return of the Irish Milk Shake, made with Guinness Stout, Baileys Original Irish Cream Liqueur, and Vanilla Ice Cream. This shake is creamy, decadent, and SO very good. The chocolate shavings on top are also a nice touch. Irish Milk Shake We’ll be visiting this booth to see if these indeed are still OUR festival favorites, so stay tuned to DFB for more. WE KNOW – there are SO many great snacks at Disney World! How do you choose (we don’t want to choose but will blow our budget on Day 1 otherwise)? We’ve got you covered! 8. Disney fans are not limited by age. We know people in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, and older who love going to the Disney World parks, with or without kids. Magic Kingdom If you’re a 50-something year old visiting Magic Kingdom, whether it’s your first visit or 100th, there are probably a few things you avoid that other guests really enjoy doing. As you gain life experience, some rides are just not great anymore. We polled our team (which includes a few individuals in their 50s) and came up with these nine rides older Disney Adults may refuse to ride in Magic Kingdom. If you’re 50 or older and are still loving these rides, we’re so happy for you! Keep on enjoying what you love. For those of us who just don’t want to end up with an aching back, motion sickness, or the like, keep reading to find out which rides to avoid. Space Mountain Space Mountain is a classic. Many of us grew up loving this thrilling, in-the-dark roller coaster. You’re flying through space on a rocket ship, and it’s seriously SO cool. Space Mountain with its 50th Anniversary lighting But as cool and fun as this ride is, it’s not for the week hearted, backed, necked, kneed, ankled…you get the picture. It’s not great for those of us who are “over the hill” (uh…mountain). First off, it’s unnecessarily difficult to get into the ride vehicles. You’ll break your knees and hips just trying to get in. Space Mountain on-ride photo Once you’re finally in the vehicle, you then go soaring, more like whipping, through space. The turns will either give you whiplash or break your back! Not to mention the motion sickness you might experience after a ride on this mountain. This ride is great for the spry kids, but if you’re a bit older, it might be time to throw in the towel on Space Mountain. It’s time to say goodbye to the days of riding Space Mountain. TRON Lightcycle / Run TRON Lightcycle / Run is a relatively new ride in Magic Kingdom that is lots of fun! For anyone who doesn’t fit well on the standard ride vehicles, there are alternative, accommodating vehicles. So that’s great for anyone a bit older and less limber. TRON Lightcycle / Run But this is a roller coaster, and (regardless of age, honestly), it can make you sick. It goes fast, it curves, it dips, it dodges, and it may make you see your breakfast again. So if you’re prone to motion sickness, you might want to skip this one. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Currently, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is closed for refurbishment until sometime in 2026. But when it was open, it was rickety and tossed you around in its very large seats like you didn’t weigh anything. (They did warn you, though, — “Hold on to your hats and glasses, cuz this here’s the wildest ride in the wilderness.”) Big Thunder Mountain Railroad While we don’t know if anything about the ride will significantly change to make it any smoother, we do know that this ride may also make those prone to motion sickness very nauseous. Mad Tea Party Speaking of motion sickness, do you consider spinning around and around and around for any duration to be fun? If you’re over 50, you might want to skip the Mad Tea Party with the Mad Hatter. Mad Tea Party Need I say more? Prince Charming Regal Carrousel You might be wondering why in the world a carrousel is on this list, but it’s simply because you never know when those horses will buck you off! Prince Charming Regal Carrousel Seriously, it can be a real pain trying to get on one of the horses, especially if you don’t bend or stretch like you used to. Barnstormer Goofy’s Barnstormer is a fun little roller coaster in Storybook Circus. It’s intended for kids, but adults will likely have a good time on it too! Barnstormer However, if you’re reaching 50 or above, this ride might not be your cup of tea. The ride vehicles are a tight squeeze and there’s that whole motion sickness issue again. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is a cute little ride that is extremely smooth; it feels like your gliding not riding. However, many older riders say that the seats are just a little too snug, and the wait is way too long for how short the ride is. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train If you don’t mind “cozy” seating and can snag a Lightning Lane Single Pass, then you might enjoy Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. If not, you might want to skip it. Astro Orbiter Astro Orbiter has some very tight rockets that are nearly impossible to get in and out of even when you’re in a spry 20 year old! Astro Orbiter It’s neat to see Tomorrowland from a bird’s eye view, but it might not be worth attempting to get in and out of those rockets! Falling out would NOT be good. Tomorrowland Speedway Another classic ride that you might want to avoid if you’re over 50 is Tomorrowland Speedway. It could be fun to ride with your grandchild, but these cars are very low to ground, handle pretty tough, and smell gas. Tomorrowland Speedway You’ll be in for a bumpy and jerky car ride on this attraction! These might not be the rides for you if you’re in your pushing your 50s (or any age if you don’t enjoy rickety rides, spinning constantly, roller coasters, or awkward ride vehicles). However, there are still plenty of great rides and entertainment for you at Magic Kingdom! Check out the My Disney Experience app for a full list of every ride at Magic Kingdom, and check back to DFB for more Disney World tips. 8 Rides to AVOID During Rope Drop at Magic Kingdom Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 9. Disney World offers free transportation between the hotels, parks, water parks, and Disney Springs. It’s a great perk of staying at a Disney World hotel! EPCOT Bus Depot While it’s nice to have free transportation to practically anywhere you need to go within Disney World, it’s certainly not without it’s faults. There are certainly a few problems with Disney World transportation, and we’re going through five of them that make us VERY mad. But don’t worry, we’ll give you a few tips to avoid these issues, too. Boats Recently, one of our team members here at DFB had a pretty awful experience with the Friendship boats between EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. These boats can pick you up and drop you off at both parks while stopping at each hotel in between. They are a smooth, relaxing transportation option if you’re not necessarily in a big hurry. International Gateway Friendship Boat When our team member was traveling from one park to another, a bout of bad weather struck causing the boats to have to dock at the Swan and Dolphin hotel and ask all passengers to leave the boat. The boat operators said buses would meet them there to pick them up and continue taking them to the destination park. Normally, Disney buses do not stop at the Swan and Dolphin, so this was a special circumstance due to the weather. Friendship boat dock at the Swan and Dolphin Hotels However, the buses never showed up! The guests ended up walking the rest of the way to the park. Luckily, there is a walking path between EPCOT and Hollywood Studios for just that. It generally takes roughly 30 minutes or more to walk between the two, but it is an option you have if you want. Disney’s BoardWalk Weather can impact your boat ride at any time in Disney World. The best thing to do is be prepared if it looks like bad weather is coming and not get upset with the Cast Members when something like this happens. Other transportation options are likely available or will be made available. Monorail When Magic Kingdom Closes The Monorail is one of the transportation options for getting to and from Magic Kingdom, and it’s a VERY popular option since anyone who parks at the Magic Kingdom parking lot has to use it from the Ticket and Transportation Center and many guests at the Monorail resorts use it. Monorail entrance at the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) Since it’s so popular, the problem with it is that at the end of the night when Magic Kingdom closes, the line to board the Monorail can be ridiculously long. Like really, really long. It can take upwards of an hour or more to just get onto the Monorail from Magic Kingdom. The monorail line can get pretty long when Magic Kingdom closes If you don’t want to stand in that long line, but you need to get back to the TTC, another option is to take the ferry boats back. These may have lines, but they are likely not as long as the Monorail line, and it doesn’t take much longer to get back to the TTC this way (we’ve timed it). Magic Kingdom ferry boat Alternatively, you could leave a little early or stay in the park a little longer to avoid the long line at the Monorail. These options might not be as viable as taking the ferry boat, though. Magic Kingdom to EPCOT (or Vice Versa) As mentioned above, unless you’re staying at one of the Monorail hotels (Contemporary Resort, Grand Floridian Resort, Polynesian Resort), you’ll get on the Monorail to either Magic Kingdom or EPCOT at the TTC. Transportation and Ticket Center There are two separate Monorails for the two parks. Unfortunately, there is not one Monorail that connects both parks. That would be a wonderful option, but it does not exist. So if you’re planning to park hop from Magic Kingdom to EPCOT, or vice versa, using the Monorail, you will HAVE to get off at the TTC and go over to the other rail for the other park. There are two Monorails, one for each park. If you don’t want to hop Monorails at the TTC, you could also walk to the Contemporary Resort and get on a bus to EPCOT from there. You could also hop on a bus from Magic Kingdom to Disney’s Boardwalk Resort or Yacht Club and Beach Club Resorts and walk to EPCOT from these hotels using the International Gateway entrance. Going to Magic Kingdom to EPCOT would simply be the opposites of these, if you don’t want to use the Monorail. Bus at Disney’s Beach Club Resort Buses Disney buses are a great resource to have, however, they don’t run on a set schedule. They begin running from the hotels to each theme park 45 minutes before each opens. After that, it’s just when they get there, they get there. There may be a general timeline (i.e., “Next bus in 30 minutes”), but you can’t count on it being ready to go at a designated time (i.e., 11, 11:30, 12, 12:30, etc.). Bus Stop Directional Sign at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Some other buses around Disney World do offer more set schedules, but many of these are not open to other passengers outside of their hotel guests (i.e., Shades of Green). It would be great if the Disney buses could be on more of a schedule, but since they are not, it’s always a good idea to be early to the bus stop at your hotel if possible. Also, the TV and “Hey, Disney” devices in each hotel room offer an insight into the buses arrivals. Hey, Disney! Skyliner Just like the boats, the Disney Skyliner will close during inclement weather. If there is lightning within a set distance, expect the Skyliner to be closed. Disney Skyliner The biggest problem with this is when you’re in EPCOT. If you are hoping to jump on the Skyliner, located at International Gateway, to your hotel or to Hollywood Studios and it’s closed, you’ll end up having to walk all the way to the front of the park to get on a bus. That’s A LOT of extra walking. International Gateway Skyliner Station If the weather is looking iffy, you might want to check the My Disney Experience app to see if the Skyliner is still open before walking to either entrance. This isn’t a for sure way to avoid this problem, but it can help a little. Every transportation option in Disney World has its downside, but in general, its some of the best transportation at a theme park resort. We’re grateful to have this free perk while visiting the parks! For more Disney tips and tricks, keep following DFB! 10. Do you remember the 21st night of September? Crowds at Cosmic Rewind This might not be an official holiday, but to Disney, September 21st is a huge celebration all across EPCOT. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind plays “September” by Earth, Wind, & Fire, all day long in honor of the iconic lyrics, and typically, it brings the crowds. Let’s take a look at the crowds for September 21st, 2025, in EPCOT. Starting us off, park reservations are still available at EPCOT, as of 8:30 AM (which totally means it’s not too late to plan a day to visit). All four parks are available for park reservations, which is a great sign that the crowds aren’t too busy quite yet. Spaceship Earth To ride Cosmic Rewind, you can hop in the standby line or purchase a Lightning Lane Single Pass, which lets you skip the line only at Guardians of the Galaxy. The Single Pass costs $18 but is already sold out, so if you’re still planning on going, be ready to wait in the standby. ©Disney Starting around 9 AM, when the park officially opens, the line was already at 80 minutes. Yikes! Cosmic Rewind (February 2025) About 30 minutes later, around 9:30 AM, it had already jumped to 135 minutes. If you’re planning on visiting today, make sure you bring your in-line entertainment and get ready for a long wait. Queue While you’re there celebrating “September,” don’t forget to stop by the booths at the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival. It’s one of our favorite times of year because there is SO much food to try. We have our top dishes, but you’ll have to tell us your newfound favorites in the comments, too. 11. Disney’s Hollywood Studios has already been under a LOT of construction this year, with the addition of Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After (which we love) and The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure (for all you Disney princess fans), not to mention that Muppets Courtyard is being turned into the new Monsters, Inc. Land as you read this. Animation Courtyard That’s not all, though. There’s ANOTHER big construction project starting soon, and by that we mean *checks watch* in just five days. So head into this spot soon, because it’s about to look ENTIRELY different! That’s right — in just FIVE days, on September 25th, Hollywood Studios will look entirely different yet again as Animation Courtyard closes to make way for the newly reimagined version of the area. While The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure and Walt Disney Presents will stay open during this refurbishment, practically everything else will close! Walt Disney Presents The Disney Jr. Play and Dance! building will close to make way for a completely new show, but it’s unclear at this time if it’ll be called the same or if the name will change along with the show. Disney Junior Play and Dance Star Wars: Launch Bay will also close entirely, which means all those meet and greets, displays, and experiences will be no more after the park closes on September 24th. This building will be replaced by the new experience, The Magic of Disney Animation. The concept art shows a Mickey Sorcerer hat on top, just like the icon this park used to have (MAJOR SCORE in our book!), and will be “a place where kids and kids at heart can laugh, draw, dream, and explore animated new experiences.” We’ll get to see portraits come alive before our eyes, and it sounds like there will even be a drawing class to guide you in drawing your own character sketch. YAY! ©Disney Does anyone else remember the old character drawing classes that used to take place in Disney’s Hollywood Studios? They were SO fun, right? Currently, an animation drawing experience happens daily at Disney’s Animal Kingdom (random…we know), so we’ll be curious to see what happens to that experience when the Hollywood Studios project is completed. Animation Experience at Animal Kingdom The entire area will be heavily inspired by the iconic Walt Disney Studios Lot in California. There will be lots of characters to meet, as well as areas for families to “play, relax, or snack on tasty treats under lush trees.” You’ll also want to look closely at your surroundings, because “you never know who you might see playing in the branches, soaking up the sun, or digging in the grass.” ©Disney Finally, a Drawn to Wonderland playground will be added to the area for kiddos to play on. It’ll be inspired by the original Alice in Wonderland concept art by Mary Blair, and will be an “oversized flower garden with musical instruments, a Mad Tea party playset, and a Tugley Wood exploration area.” ©Disney This means that when September 25th hits, there will be TWO entire lands closed off in Hollywood Studios, which means that there will be fewer options for younger kiddos in the park, and other wait times may increase a bit to make up for the lack of attractions. 12. Halloween is getting bigger and better ALL the time, and we’re not just talking about Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Disney World or Halloween Horror Nights in Universal Orlando. Halloween is getting better EVERYWHERE, including in Las Vegas, where a new permanent attraction, Universal Horror Unleashed, will make it feel like Halloween year-round. Well, we got a chance to check out Horror Unleashed for ourselves, and we’re bringing you along for the (very, very scary; no weenies allowed) ride. Horror Unleashed has officially opened its doors, so we’re checking it out for ourselves, and yes, we’re preparing to be scared. The blood red carpet was rolled out for the media event, and we’ll be honest: we were already shaking in our shoes a bit before we even went inside. Do we dare? The attraction is unlike any other Universal experience, including encounters with “unimaginable monstrous creatures lurking around every corner” as you make your way through themed immersive areas. So, let’s take a deep breath and go inside! Area15 Horror Unleashed is located at Area15, and let’s just say that as soon as you arrive, the mood is already set. It feels like another planet. There are huge statues, massive murals, and seriously dramatic lighting effects that’s part art installation and part warning. Area 15 It feels less like walking into a haunted house and more like you’re heading into a rave or art show. We’re talking warehouse vibe, which is already pretty much what the attraction is housed in. It’s got the whole warehouse thing going on Once inside, we saw cloaked women flying above our heads, a masked man with a knife mingling in the crowd, and that horror movie staple, an axe-wielding psycho. Seriously, you can’t have a horror attraction without a dude with an axe, am I right? The horror starts here with roaming characters, including ones that will tail you until you break. The experience starts immediately But we’re just getting started because we’ve got some haunted houses to visit. Haunted Houses Horror Unleashed has four haunted houses, each with its own theme. We did them in the order we were told was from the least scary to the scariest, basically working our way up. Hey, we need time to get used to this level of terror, OKAY? Universal Monsters We started with Universal Monsters, where you can “experience the terrifying worlds of Universal Monsters where you’ll follow in the footsteps of famed monster-hunter Van Helsing and enter the realm of the most iconic monsters in Universal’s storied movie history.” This house was more beautiful than terrifying. There are oversized busts of the legendary monsters that set the tone. It’s immersive Meanwhile, Van Helsing’s granddaughter is in the queue area asking us to get her Wolfman’s head (sure, we’ll get right on that, ma’am). Wolfman was far more grotesque than how he appears at Epic Universe. Wolfman is legit scary The same goes for Quasimodo and the Phantom — they’re both pretty scary, but because we’re Disney Adults, we still feel kinda bad for Quasimodo and quietly sang “Out There” under our shaky breath. Dracula also puts in an appearance, along with his Brides, in a very theatrical way before the Bride of Frankenstein delivers a very cool finale. Quasimodo This house is more about atmosphere and storytelling than jump scares. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Relive The Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie by journeying through a rotting farmhouse in a remote part of Texas, “its walls stained with terror and echoing with the screams of past victims.” We’ll just warn you now…this one is scary…and you will scream…a LOT. It starts in a 1970s diner, and the immersion is IMMEDIATE. You’ve just landed in the world of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie. It starts in a retro diner The movie literally starts happening around you. Leatherface is EVERYWHERE, lurking around every corner. You’ve got these super realistic sets with that whole retro ’70s vibe, and you’re just there…in the movie. Of course, the roar of the chainsaw is terrifying, then there are these claustrophobic hallways, and the pace of getting through the haunted house is RELENTLESS. He’s coming for us! If you don’t scream until you lose your voice in this one, you are way braver than we are. We felt like we were time-traveling…and it wasn’t nearly as fun as it seems to be on Doctor Who. Blumhouse’s The Exorcist: Believer In this house, you’ll find the story of two girls overtaken by an ancient evil, “their screams echoing through a maze of twisted torment.” You’ll have to try to escape before this evil takes you over, as well. At this point, we’re already exhausted from the previous house, but we must prevail. Of course, this is horror straight out of The Exorcist, and again, it takes you through the movie. You start in a storefront in another country (like the Haiti prologue in the movie). There’s a souvenir shop that’s been ripped apart by evil. How it started Yes, it’s on. This one leans more on psychological horror and really messes with your head — in the most terrifying way possible. The scenes are meant to get to you on a mental level, and they do. There are hospital corridors, the family homes destroyed by possessed people, and it all just leads into a chaotic finale. How’s it going? It’s incredible how cinematic the entire experience is. The design is beautiful in the way everything is designed, and real artistry went into putting it all together. Scarecrow: The Reaping The terror starts outside this haunted house, that’s not a haunted house, so much as a cursed harvest. Outside, you’ll find a warped carnival, a “nightmare come to life.” Then you’ll make your way through foggy cornfields, realizing that you’re not alone. “Twisted scarecrows lurk in the shadows, emerging from the mist-covered cornrows—silent, soulless and always watching. Every rustle in the stalks could be your last warning.” Yeah, we were worried — we won’t lie! This is supposed to be the scariest house, after all! We’re fine. Everything is fine. Our first thought was just how gorgeous the set is. You’ve got the barren farmlands, the Depression-era look and feel, and that whole aesthetic. But then the scarecrows came…and they never stopped coming. They were at every turn, catching us unaware, even though we KNEW they were out there. There were…just so many scarecrows, y’all. We are NOT fine. So, yes, we knew at this point that this was the scariest haunted house of the four. This one is so intense that we had to take a moment, and we honestly thought we’d have to use the chicken out exit (and it seems like this is an option). But we took a deep breath and ventured further in. It’s just such a relentless assault on the senses, just one jump scare after another, that it can be a bit too much. This one is not for the faint of heart. We won’t lie…we were grateful to make it out of there alive. Food and Drinks Within parts of the four entertainment areas, you’ll find themed food and drinks along the way. You’ll want to stay fueled up for the terrors that await you, after all. There were four dining spots in all, including Premiere House, Rough Cuts, Jack’s Alley, and The Boiler. The Boiler We did get a look at a few of the drinks, including the Graverobber Cocktail for $19, made with Cuervo Tradicional Reposado Tequila, Chambord, Guava, and Lime. You can pick this up at Jack’s Alley Bar and The Boiler. Graverobber Cocktail It’s a gorgeous drink, right? Like the haunted houses, it’s very well-thought-out. Merchandise We were very impressed with the merchandise shop. This isn’t just some slap-on gift shop. This is a beautifully designed high-end retail experience with quality merchandise. We spoke with someone from Universal’s global marketing team and were told that the idea was to go in a different direction with the merchandise here as opposed to what you might see at Halloween Horror Nights. Anyway, color us impressed (you know, after we got our color back after that last haunted house). This store is NICE…in a creepy way, of course. One fun detail is that the clothing had coroner-style body tags on them instead of regular price labels. Y’all, we love those kinds of details. This detail! The merchandise itself was also pretty nice. We loved the Texas Chainsaw Massacre leather jacket we saw for $95. Texas Chainsaw Massacre merchandise The Horror Unleashed Tumbler was SO cool, too, and just $30. It was filled with “dripping blood” inside a double-pane plastic cup. SO cool. We love this tumbler Everything in that shop felt collectible, intentional, and immersive. We’re guessing they’re going to rake in some serious $$$. Tickets Tickets for Horror Unleashed are as follows: $59 for general admission one-time access (enter each haunted house once) — available only to Nevada residents $69 for general admission one-time access (enter each haunted house once) $99 for general admission unlimited access (enter each haunted house as often as you’d like) Groups can also book a VIP Experience Package for $2,950 that includes priority entry, unlimited haunted house access, a VIP dining experience, and some exclusive perks. The Rest One thing we have to note is that the houses shut down for 15 minutes every 45 minutes to give the scare actors a break. During that time, the lines don’t move, so your wait will be 15 minutes longer. If you manage to get in line at the wrong time, your wait time is going to go up. We recommend prioritizing the haunted houses first before grabbing food and merchandise. Phew! What an experience. This is for all you (slightly insane) brave souls who love a jumpscare. The good news is that you do NOT have to wait for the Halloween season — this is a year-round experience. Plus, you can pop over to California and go to Disneyland to make a whole trip of it! 13. Refurbishments are nothing new at Walt Disney World, as rides at all four theme parks are often under refurbishment. However, it’s not ONLY the parks that are having work done. A new Bay Lake Tower room There is A LOT of construction work going on at Disney World, and some of that construction work involves remodeling rooms across numerous Disney World hotels. If you hope to find yourself staying in a recently refurbished hotel room, then we are rounding up the Disney World hotels with brand-new rooms in 2025. Disney World opened its newest Disney Vacation Club hotel, Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, in 2024. Island Tower The new tower boasts gorgeous views of Seven Seas Lagoon and Magic Kingdom, but if you don’t want to stay in a brand-new hotel, just a brand-new room, then you will want to consider these hotels for your 2025 Disney World vacation. Polynesian Island Tower Villa First up, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter underwent room refurbishments beginning in May 2024, with work wrapping up in the spring of 2025. Port Orleans — French Quarter The new rooms feature colorful theming and patterns reminiscent of Mardi Gras (naturally), as well as some references to the iconic New Orleans-set Disney film The Princess and the Frog. Seating area and TV at Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter Disney’s Yacht Club also refurbished some of its guest rooms during a project that lasted from January 2025 through May 2025. If you want something with more open space, you may want to check out Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. The Cabins at Fort Wilderness have slowly been replaced with new Disney Vacation Club cabins. The project finished in April 2025. Room inside The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort is working on remodeling its guest rooms. The remodeling was completed in September 2025. We had the chance to check out one of the tower’s newly refurbished rooms to see exactly what there is to offer and what has changed. Seating area with an additional pull-down bed Specifically, we toured a 2-Bedroom Villa, which sleeps nine people. Bedroom two There’s also a seating area… Seating area with additional pull-down bed … and a pull-down bed. Pull-down bed There’s a full eat-in kitchen, complete with refrigerator, oven and stove, microwave, and dishwasher. Since this is a Disney Vacation Club room, it features additional amenities, including a decent-sized dining table for families to enjoy meals together. Eat in Kitchen The Copper Creek Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge are also undergoing some remodels and are expected to be done in September 2025. Disney’s Port Orleans – Riverside will begin reimagining its Magnolia Bend rooms (including the Royal Rooms) in April 2025. The remodel is expected to last through January 2026. The hotel is not guaranteed to have new rooms in 2025, but some remodeling may be done before 2026. Magnolia Bend Finally, Disney’s Pop Century Resort will also begin remodeling its guest rooms in late March 2025. The refurbishments will continue through mid-February 2026. Similar to Disney’s Port Orleans — Riverside, it is possible to see some guest rooms done before February 2026, but there are no guarantees. Of course, even if you stay at one of the resorts undergoing guest room refurbishments, there is no guarantee that you will be put in a new room. However, these hotels will be debuting new rooms in 2025, so you might just get lucky! 14. Anyone else enjoy jamming out in the shower to start your day, or end your day on a high note? We know we do (literally, every time — no exceptions!). If you’re not treating yourself to a shower concert, well, you’re doing it WRONG. Bathroom at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Island Tower Here’s the thing. We’ve stayed in a LOT of Disney World hotels. Like, all of them. And the one thing we always take note of during our stay? The bathroom experience. Yes, really! What’s the shower situation? How’s the counterspace? These are important questions! Luckily for you, we have answers — and ALL the essentials you need for the optimal hotel shower experience. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. The Best Waterproof Speaker! When you’re staying in a Disney World hotel, you may find that the ol’ “singing in the shower” experience gets a little tricky. Maybe there’s no good spot for your phone, or your phone doesn’t get loud enough to play through the bathroom. Whatever the reason, we’ve found that having a speaker is the way to go for jamming out during your shower in Disney World, and we’ve found the perfect one online! ©Amazon We’ve found that a waterproof speaker like the JBL Go 3 is a great addition to bring to Disney World! It’s waterproof and dust-proof, plus it’s small and compact, making it easy to pack. It’s got up to five hours of battery before it needs to be charged again, so you likely can go most of your whole trip without needing to recharge. ©Amazon Whether you listen to music or podcasts while getting ready for the day, it’s a great addition to your travel essentials for your upcoming trip! Our team loves a good shower podcast — it’s the perfect way to learn something while you rinse off. Check it out! Pack Everything in One Bag! We’ve been in fancy Deluxe Disney World Hotels and smaller Value Resort rooms. No matter where we stay, we notice that the counterspace in the bathroom isn’t always ideal — especially for larger groups. How do you stay organized before and after a shower? With this handy bag — DFB tried-and-tested! BAGSMART Travel Toiletry Bag We know the frustration of trying to pack everything in one bag, while also making sure it’s compact enough to fit in your suitcase, and if you’re concerned about that, grab the BAGSMART Travel Toiletry Bag! It’s got so many different pockets so you can fit all your shower essentials, no matter what their size is — we’ve tried it ourselves and managed to fit a LOT. Plus, it’s easy to hang outside your shower for easy access to your essentials. Check it out! This Travel Set is Perfect If You’re Flying! OK, so Disney World showers — no matter where you stay — are famous for that signature soap. It’s cute and all, but it’s also LOCKED AWAY in soap jail. We don’t know about you, but we aren’t a fan of the bottled soap bolted to the wall. Enter: your own personal container set. ©Amazon If you’re flying to Disney World, it’s best to make sure all your liquids fit under the 3 oz limit, which is where the 16 Pack Travel Bottles Set comes in! You can fit your shampoo, conditioner, body wash, perfume, you name it, inside these sixteen different bottles and tubes. This way, you don’t have to compromise bringing your favorites from home if they’re in too big containers — there’s nothing worse than finding out you have to buy NEW shower essentials on vacation. The good news is that all Disney showers have a shelf for your soaps! Check it out! Make Your Clothes Easy to Grab We hate getting out of the shower, only to realize that our clothes are IN THE OTHER ROOM, so avoid that by bringing along these Portable Hanging Travel Shelves! As you can see, we’ve tested this one out as well, and it holds a LOT! Portable Shelves These can hold shoes, pants, shirts, belts, and other accessories easily, and you can hang them right on the doorframe. It’s an easy way to ensure all your clothes are in one place, and you can avoid having to walk out into the room in a towel or ask someone to bring you your clothes. Plus, Disney World hotel bathrooms do NOT have any tables or shelves, so this gives your clothing a safe place to rest while you shower. Check it out! For the Young Kiddos! If you’re traveling with young kids, it’s important to know that not all Disney World hotel bathrooms have bathtubs. Some rooms only have a shower! ©Amazon It’s essential to make sure EVERYONE in your party stays clean and feeling fresh, so grab the Mink Inflatable Baby Bathtub to use inside the Disney World hotel room showers, or larger bathtubs if you’re concerned about the size. 15. If you’ve got a Disney vacation coming up, your travel plans may be affected before you even set foot in the parks. OK, so most people try to get through the airport part of their vacation as quickly as possible because, duh, who wants to be stuck in an airport? But this new announcement from the Orlando International Airport might result in some longer travel times, so be prepared. Orlando International Airport The Orlando airport has officially decided to replace its Gate Link vehicles, tracks, and electrical control equipment, which means a LONNNG construction period is on the way. Obviously, this will impact transportation around the airport for travelers, so let’s take a look at what to expect. You know that little monorail-esque vehicle that takes you from one terminal to another at the Orlando Airport? You know, the one where Mayor Buddy Dyer makes his little speech? Well, those are about to be refurbished. Here’s a little fun fact for you: the Gate Link vehicles have transported travelers over 5 million miles (equivalent to approximately 200 times around the Earth). With the construction coming to the tracks, vehicles, and electrical room, the Orlando Airport warns that this will affect travel between Terminal A/B and Gates 70-99 and Gates 100-129. MCO airport Due to the size of the project, it will take place in phases. This is an essential upgrade to ensure future reliability and enhance the experience for all travellers. Each Gate Link vehicle will need to be taken out of service. MCO Airport Security So what does this mean for you? Well, these will be the affected gates during the following periods: Gates 100-129 December 2025 to December 2026 This will impact the airlines Avelo and Southwest Gates 70-99 December 2026 to October 2027 This will impact the airlines Air Canada, Air Transat, Bahamasair, BermudAir, Delta, Flair, Frontier, LATAM, Southwest, Spirit, Sun Country, Viva, Volaris, and WestJet Orlando International Airport While this is happening, it may be necessary to take the Gate Link to the other Gate Area, and then you can be transported between Gate Areas by bus. This means you should be allowing yourself an extra 15–20 minutes when arriving or departing Orlando Airport from these gates. The good news is that there will be directional signage and information to help you out. The Orlando Airport warns, “Please allow additional time when arriving or departing MCO from these gates, and follow the directional signage, and information from our airport ambassadors.” Southwest at MCO If you’re traveling to Disney for the fall season, this won’t impact you. So all you Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party guests and EPCOT’s Food and Wine Festival goers won’t have anything to worry about! However, all you holiday travellers should be prepared, as construction starts in December. Christmas decor in the Magic Kingdom 2024 Make sure you plan accordingly with this construction period going on at the Orlando Airport. We’ll be keeping an eye out for any more news regarding this process. Don’t want to go through all of the stress of booking your Disney World trip alone? 16. When you’re picking a hotel for Disney World, Universal Orlando, or maybe even just the Orlando area, you’re going to want to make sure that hotel meets a certain set of standards (I won’t even book a hotel that doesn’t have at least 4 out of 5 dots on TripAdvisor, for example). You’re paying good money for accommodations — you deserve a quality stay! ©Conrad Hotel Well, if you’ve been thinking about staying at Evermore Resort near Disney World (which is MASSIVE, by the way), you may opt for the hotel on-site, the Conrad Hotel. Well, if you book that hotel, you probably made a great decision because it just got one of the highest honors in the hotel industry: the AAA Five Diamond designation. Everybody say OOOOHHH…AHHHH. Conrad Orlando at Evermore has received the AAA Five Diamond designation for the first time. This is also the first time a Hilton property has received the designation. Y’all. This is a VERY big deal. Less than one percent of nearly 23,000 hotels in this category have received this designation. Basically, it means that this hotel goes above and beyond in luxury and upscale amenities. ©Conrad Hotel So, how does a hotel get the AAA Five Diamond designation? Well, they have to pass a very strict evaluation from AAA representatives who inspect the property (unannounced) and also stay anonymously overnight. Then there’s a review by a panel of experts. It’s a WHOLE process. Then, the hotels and restaurants with the designation get re-evaluated every year. NO PRESSURE, right? ©Conrad Hotel “AAA is pleased to recognize Conrad Orlando with the Five Diamond designation, meaning its unwavering attention to both service and surroundings has placed it into the upper echelon of AAA’s Diamond Program,” said Stacey Barber, AAA Travel Vice President. “To maintain the exceptional standards required for this designation on a daily basis is an outstanding achievement. Five Diamond hotels and restaurants consistently exceed expectations to provide their guests a highly personalized, memorable experience.” ©Conrad Hotel So if you’ve been on the fence about booking this hotel, this may be a sign to do it! Congrats to the Conrad Hotel! We’ve stayed at Evermore Resort before, and we’re not kidding when we say it changed our lives. This place is UNREAL. 20. NEW YORK — More than 100 members of the Writers Guild of America East and their supporters jammed the sidewalk in front of Walt Disney Co.’s Lower Manhattan headquarters Friday to protest ABC’s decision to pull “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” The late-night program has been dark since Wednesday, when the Disney-owned network announced in a terse statement that it will be “preempted indefinitely.” The move followed decisions by two major owners of ABC affiliates to drop the show because of Kimmel’s remarks about the suspect in the shooting death of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk. Members of the union, which represents TV and film writers, marched with signs calling the move an attack on free speech and accusing Walt Disney Co. executives of lacking backbone. Among the messages: “Disney and ABC Capitulation and Censorship,” “Always Be Cowards,” “Absolute Bull— Cowards” and “Disney/ABC Bows to Trump Extortion.” There were chants of “Bring Jimmy back.” The demonstration reflected anger building in the creative community over Kimmel’s removal, which Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr called for during a podcast interview that aired on Wednesday. Carr said if action was not taken against Kimmel, there could be consequences for the TV stations that carry his show. On Monday’s show, Kimmel seemed to suggest during his monologue that Tyler Robinson, the Utah man accused in the shooting death of Kirk, might have been a pro-Trump Republican. He said MAGA supporters “are desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.” The remarks prompted a widespread conservative backlash on social media, including demands for Kimmel’s firing. Kimmel, who has expressed sympathy for Kirk’s family online, has not yet commented on his removal. President Donald Trump has also said that late-night hosts who are critical of his administration should be banished from the airwaves. Trump cheered ABC’s decision, as he did the recent cancellation of CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” Kimmel remains off the air and has had discussions with Disney executives about how to bring the show back on the air. But his future with the network remains uncertain. Greg Iwinski, a late-night TV writer and council member of the WGA East, said the threat of pulling a broadcast license is a dangerous weapon that can be used on any program and ultimately chill free expression. “You can use that for any broadcast network anywhere,” Iwinski said. “Any late-night show, daytime show, game show or sitcom — any show you don’t like. Everything is under threat that is on network TV.” Iwinski warned that ABC’s actions will only invite the Trump administration to exert more control over the broadcast airwaves. “What if a relationship on a drama doesn’t fit the values of Donald Trump?” he said. “What if it’s not racially representative of what he thinks — ‘Well, we’re going to pull your licenses’ — all of that is on the table.” The WGA East members were joined by local government officials supporting their cause, including New York City Comptroller Brad Lander. Statements of protest over ABC’s moves are coming from all corners of the entertainment industry, including Michael Eisner, the former Disney chief who preceded Bob Iger’s first run in the job. “Where has all the leadership gone?” Eisner wrote Friday on X. “If not for university presidents, law firm managing partners, and corporate chief executives standing up against bullies, who then will step up for the first amendment?” Eisner said ABC’s action is “yet another example of out of control intimidation” by the FCC. “Maybe the Constitution should have said, ‘Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, except in one’s political or financial self-interest.’” Eisner added. “By-the-way, for the record, this ex-CEO finds Jimmy Kimmel very talented and funny.” Disney did not immediately comment on Eisner’s post. Damon Lindelof, the Emmy-winning co-creator of the hit ABC series “Lost,” said in an Instagram post Wednesday that he would no longer work for Disney or ABC unless Kimmel is reinstated. A major Republican voice weighed on Friday as well, with Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, saying the FCC chair’s threats are “dangerous as hell” and compared them to organized crime tactics. Carr, who has been in lockstep with Trump on matters concerning the media, has said that stations have the right to pull the show if owners believe the content conflicts with community standards. “Broadcast TV stations have always been required by their licenses to operate in the public interest — that includes serving the needs of their local communities,” he wrote Thursday on X. “And broadcasters have long retained the right to not air national programs that they believe are inconsistent with the public interest, including their local communities’ values. I am glad to see that many broadcasters are responding to their viewers as intended.” ©2025 Los Angeles Times. Visit latimes.com. Distributed by Tribune Content Agency, LLC. View the full article
  21. Now that Epic Universe has been open for a bit, we think it’s about time to spill the beans on one of the park’s biggest attractions. Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry The more we visit Universal Orlando’s newest theme park, the more we learn. From new tricks to favorite eats, we’ve picked up a lot during our visits. We’ve also learned about some of the park’s pitfalls, including a misleading warning regarding a certain Harry Potter attraction… Did you know you can actually gamble when it comes to your Battle At The Ministry ride-through? Battle at the Ministry Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry is the newest Wizarding World ride located in Epic Universe’s Ministry of Magic portal. The attraction lets you “travel” by “Métro-Floo from Paris to the British Ministry of Magic, where Dolores Umbridge is about to stand trial.” You’ll then get to “board a lift and join Harry, Ron, and Hermione as you journey deep into the Ministry’s many departments.” Métro-Floo When you get over to the portal, you may see signs around the area stating that the Battle at the Ministry ride is going to “close early that day.” And if you’re like us, that’s gonna make your heart skip a beat. Close?? Early??? Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry Queue But here’s what Epic REALLY means when they put up that sign. Since Battle at the Ministry tends to be the most popular ride of the park, they don’t want their Wizarding World team members having to work an extra 2-3 hours past closing time just to get the rest of the guests through the Battle at the Ministry line. It’s a popular ride So unlike MOST Epic Universe rides — where you can just get in line and get one last ride-through right up until closing — Epic Universe will mark The Battle at the Ministry “at capacity” if they see they’re two hours until closing time and the ride is STILL sitting at a solid 120-minute wait. Queue for standby line at Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry That being said, the ride DOESN’T ALWAYS reach capacity, and we’ve seen it close 30 minutes before the park was slated to close. In one instance, we noticed that since people scrambled to ride this one earlier — afraid that it would close before they got the chance to experience it — it was sitting at a 20-minute wait while the park STILL had an hour left to go. The queue is HUGE Would we wait and gamble on this strategy if Battle at the Ministry was our number one priority? No, probably not. Because — again — this line COULD reach capacity and close a whole lot EARLIER. That being said, if Battle at the Ministry has a line that you just DON’T wanna mess with — or you were hoping to catch one more re-ride on it before wrapping up your day — then keep an eye on the Universal Orlando app so you can find out if this early closure strategy is gonna work in your favor. Wizarding World We’re continually visiting Epic Universe all the time to pick up new tips and tricks, so keep it posted right here at DFB for all the latest updates! 22. Disney Cruise Line continues to grow as its fleet gets bigger and bigger. That means you have even more choices if you’ve ever been interested in taking a Disney Cruise. Options! We love options! Especially when they’re all unique Disney themes. ©Disney The next ship to set sail for the first time is the Disney Destiny, which will embark on its maiden voyage on November 20th (yes, that’s soon). Ahead of its maiden voyage, though, the ship needs to be put through the paces, a.k.a. sea trials. Well, the Disney Destiny is now out there on the ocean, getting ready to do just that, according to The Orlando Sentinel. Aww…it’s like baby’s first steps! We’re feeling like proud parents over here. The Disney Destiny recently left the Meyer Werft Shipyard in Papenburg, Germany (after a big float-out ceremony) to make the tugboat-assisted 20-mile trip down the Ems River to Eemshaven, Netherlands. From there, it will head out for its sea trials in the North Sea. Y’all, this is a BIG deal. ©Disney The ship won’t be officially handed over to Disney Cruise Line until it completes its series of sea trials to measure its performance and prove its seaworthiness. At these trials, you’ll usually find technical representatives from the ship’s builder, governing and certification owners, and Disney representatives present. Once the ship passes its sea trials, it will be certified for commissioning and then accepted by its owner, a.k.a. Disney. Yes, it’s a whole process, but an important one! ©Disney Once it passes the sea trials, the ship, which is inspired by Disney heroes and villains, will make the transatlantic journey from the North Sea to Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This probably won’t happen until late October or early November, though. Then, on November 20th, the ship will begin setting sail and will offer four- and five-night cruises to the Bahamas and western Caribbean with stops at Castaway Cay and the new Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point OK, can we take a moment to talk about the Disney heroes and villains theme, because WOW, that’s cool! Look out for both heroes and villains onboard the ship, including characters from The Lion King, One Hundred and One Dalmatians, and Hercules. Disney teased new spaces, experiences, and entertainment on the ship inspired by the heroes and villains of those popular Disney films. ©Disney We’re excited to see the progress of Disney’s new ship, and yes, we’re already anticipating that first cruise aboard her! 24. Okay, if you’re like us, you’re planning your Disney World vacations WAY in advance…like maybe even two years out (hey, I’m as guilty as anyone, but we ALL need Disney trips to look forward to, right?). BoardWalk Inn Entrance So you might be in the process of thinking about your 2027 Disney World trip — trust us, we won’t judge! Well, if you are, you’ll need to know something important about at least one Disney World hotel: Disney’s BoardWalk Inn will have multiple parts of its resort under construction in 2027. In other words, think twice before booking that hotel. We have confirmed that the following will be closed for routine maintenance at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn from January 11th, 2027 through April 2027: the Luna Park Pool, the Luna Park Crazy Play Area, and Leaping Horse Libations. That means if you’re visiting during that time, you may see and hear construction. Leaping Horse Libations That’s not all, though. Disney’s BoardWalk Inn is located in the EPCOT area, which means it has access to the EPCOT Skyliner. BUT we recently learned that the entire Skyliner will be closed for refurbishment from January 24th to January 30th, 2027. In the meantime, buses will be available to take you from the EPCOT-area hotels to Disney’s Hollywood Studios (and EPCOT is just a short walk or boat ride away). You will also still be able to take a boat to Disney’s Hollywood Studios from the hotel. Boat at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn However, this might throw a bit of a wrench in your plans if you’re staying in the area. Note that although there will be a lot of construction happening at the BoardWalk Inn, you still have to pay full price for the hotel (unless you score a deal), so you might want to rethink if it’s worth it. Granted, you have other options in the area, including Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, Disney’s Beach Club Resort, and the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin (a hotel you probably shouldn’t sleep on!). You’ll have tons of choices on things to do…and things to eat in this area, trust me! Swan and Dolphin So we just wanted to give you a heads up if you might be thinking about staying at the BoardWalk Inn during your 2027 trip. As always, stay tuned to DFB for more!
