Are you ready to blast off with a new Tomorrowland treat? Learn About: The Lunching PadMagic Kingdom Disney World Restaurants Good! Because we’re back at The Lunching Pad, a Quick Service spot in the heart of Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland. You may recall our last visit to the Lunching Pad, when we checked out their full array (at the time) of specialty hot dogs. Though you’ll notice with this visit that the overall menu is different, one staple snack that has remained is the good ol’ Mickey Pretzel. The Lunching Pad is also one of the spots in the Disney World parks where you can grab the harder-to-find Sweet Cream Cheese Pretzel. But now, The Lunching Pad has its very own specialty pretzel that you can’t find anywhere else: the Ham and Cheese-Stuffed Pretzel, which is what brings us back here today. The Lunching Pad in Tomorrowland Not familiar with The Lunching Pad? Well, then, let’s check it out! AtmosphereIf you’re looking for a good spot to take in the retro-vision-of-the-future vibe of Tomorrowland, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better place than The Lunching Pad. The Lunching Pad Situated right at the base of two Tomorrowland attractions — the Astro Orbiter and the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover — this spot is always hoppin’, even though The Lunching Pad doesn’t have as high a profile as the big-name counter service restaurant in the area, Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café. The Peoplemover Track above The Lunching Pad The open-but-covered seating area gives you a great view of all the futuristic goings-on, and the bit of atmosphere not provided by the rides themselves is in keeping with the rest of the galactic decor in the area. Tomorrowland Décor Seating surrounds nearly the whole base (save for the escalator carrying guests up to the PeopleMover), so the elevator that takes folks to the Astro Orbiter is located around some of the seating for The Lunching Pad. People that are in the area solely for the rides may even take up a table or two enjoying a breather between attractions, so you may need to keep an eye out for a seat! Elevator for Astro Orbiter Once that’s taken care of, it’s time to check out what’s for grabs for all you space travelers out there… EatsThe Lunching Pad is a quick-service spot that offers a combo of grab-and-go snacks including frozen drinks, chips, and whole fruit alongside heartier fare like the aforementioned pretzels. The Lunching Pad Ordering Area The Lunching Pad Menu But those of you who were big fans of The Lunching Pad’s specialty hot dog selection might need to prepare yourself for some disappointment… Previous menus held unique options like the Reuben Hot Dog, BLT Hot Dog, and even the downright impressive Philly Cheese Steak Dog. It seems as though they’ve all since gone into orbit, because even the last remaining specialty dog — the Coney Island Dog — has disappeared as well. (Note that the hot dogs have been removed from this location in the past and have returned…twice…so you never know what’s going to happen.) But it’s not all sad news… though the only Hot Dog available is now just a plain one served with chips, they have added a new Ham and Cheese-Stuffed Pretzel to the menu. The Lunching Pad Menu By the way, if you go with one of these savory items, don’t forget that there is a small variety of condiments available for customization. Condiment Options at The Lunching Pad As for the new pretzel, it’s wrapped around the meat and cheese in a modified braid, as opposed to being a fully twisted pretzel. Ham and Cheese Stuffed Pretzel It’s served nice and warm with the ham and Swiss cheese melted in between. Ham and Cheese Stuffed Pretzel Despite first impressions, this somewhat flat pretzel holds a surprising amount of meat and cheese, and the classic combo of salty ham and creamy Swiss is well-suited with the pretzel (topped with poppy seeds instead of coarse salt to keep it from being overly-salty). As you might assume for the $7.49 price point, it’s definitely closer to a sandwich — though it’s not quite a full meal — than your typical pretzel. So it’s tasty, yes, but not as earth (or space) shattering as the previous menu offerings here at The Lunching Pad. OverallAs you may have surmised ;), I really do miss the specialty hot dog selection at The Lunching Pad. Even though options rotated with some frequency, it was always a bit of a hoot to check out what over-the-top hot dog creations they had come up with (most often with delicious results). Still, taken on its own, the Ham and Cheese-Stuffed Pretzel is an enjoyable and filling almost-a-meal choice that tries to keep The Lunching Pad tradition of unique and unexpected offerings alive, even though it doesn’t carry quite the same “wow” factor. We’ll definitely be keeping an eye out to see if they bring back the Dogs, even if only on a seasonal basis. After all, The Lunching Pad has surprised us more than a few times before, and we’re hopeful it can do so again in… ahem, THE FUTURE (or Tomorrowland’s version of it, anyway!). Cinnamon rolls are the undisputed Breakfast of Champions. There’s nothing better than a hot cinnamon-y pastry topped with ooey-gooey icing. The best of the best used to be available at the Main Street Bakery. And while we still mourn the loss of the best cinnamon roll ever (it’s replacement is being served at Gaston’s Tavern), we are moving forward and finding new cinnamon rolls to love. And right now we’re loving Chip’s Sticky Bun Bake served at Chip N’ Dale’s Harvest Feast at Epcot’s Garden Grill! Cinnamon Bun Bake The Sticky Bun Bake was one of our favorite items at the Harvest Feast and now you can enjoy this cinnamon bun goodness at home! This recipe takes a lot more time and effort than popping open one of those cans of cinnamon rolls, but it’s so worth it! Also, any recipe that includes instructions for “cinnamon smear” is a winner in our book! Chip’s Sticky Bun BakeGarden Grill Restaurant, Epcot Serves 6-8 Ingredients Cinnamon Smear 1 1/4 cup margarine, softened 2 teaspoons cinnamon 2 1/2 cups brown sugar 2 eggs Sweet Cinnamon Dough 1 cup milk 2/3 ounce cake (fresh) yeast, crumbled (approximately 3 tablespoons loosely packed) 1/4 cup sugar 1/2 cup butter, softened Pinch of salt 1 teaspoon cinnamon 3 cups bread flour 2 room temperature eggs Icing 1 teaspoon milk 1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar 4 tablespoons butter, softened 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Instructions For cinnamon smear: 1. Cream together margarine, cinnamon and brown sugar. 2. Add eggs one at a time, scraping bowl after adding each egg. Mix well and place in refrigerator. For cinnamon dough: 1. Heat milk in small sauce pan to 90 – 95 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove from heat, add cake (fresh) yeast, whisk until dissolved, set aside. 2. Mix sugar, butter, salt, cinnamon, eggs and flour in large bowl, until smooth. 3. Add yeast mixture slowly, stirring until dough comes easily away from sides of bowl. 4. Knead dough on lightly floured surface for 5 to 10 minutes. 5. Place dough in large bowl, cover bowl with plastic wrap. Let dough rest 10 minutes or until doubled in size. 6. Coat bottom and sides of 12 inch cake pan or 9 x 13 inch pan with butter. 7. Punch down dough, knead it a few times, roll out on a floured surface into a 15 by 10-inch rectangle. 8. Spread cinnamon smear over dough. Roll up dough beginning at the 15-inch side and pinch edge together to seal. 9. Cut into 1 inch slices, quarter each slice, place pieces close together in pan. 10. Cover, let dough rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 45 minutes. 11. Preheat oven to 350 degrees, bake about 30 minutes or until golden brown. For icing: 1. Mix milk, confectioners’ sugar, softened butter and vanilla extract together in a small bowl until smooth. 2. Drizzle over warm buns. And there you have it – the perfect cinnamon bun recipe! Being a long time Star Wars fan, I loved watching “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” with my son in an IMAX 3D theatre. While I had already seen the film twice, I will always remember seeing the pure joy in his eyes as the action unfolded on screen. Now, he wants everything Star Wars (which seems vaguely similar to my childhood). Luckily, I work at Disney Parks which has some incredibly cool products for Star Wars fans of all ages. Here are a few of my favorites. Force Push Role Play Action Set – This is my favorite item created especially for Disney Parks. This set gives you the power to move a First Order Stormtrooper or TIE Fighter with a wave of your Force Glove. BB-8 Spinning Top – This BB-8 top spins, lights up and makes sounds when activated. Be the Best Dressed in the Galaxy – Disney Parks has apparel items for women, men and children. The women’s shirts with Rey are gorgeous, and the BB-8-inspired dress from Her Universe is fun. I also liked the ringer t-shirt with Han Solo and Chewbacca. Apparel From Preen by Thornton Bregazzi – We are now offering two luxurious items from Preen by Thornton Bregazzi. Look for them at Keystone Clothiers in Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort or The Star Trader in Disneyland park at the Disneyland Resort. These Are the Accessories You’re Looking For – From Dooney & Bourke handbags to shoes that resemble Darth Vader, there are many accessories available to complete any out-of-this-world outfit. I particularly like the scarf with vintage Star Wars artwork as it reminds me of bed sheets I had as a child. Star Wars Name Tags – Guests can create personalized name tags with their names written in Aurebesh, one of the alphabets used in the Star Wars galaxy. There is also a name tag designed especially for Annual Passholders. Look for these name tags at Watto’s Grotto in Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida or Tomorrowlanding in Disneyland park in California. Disney Pins and Vinylmation Figures – Guests will find new Disney pins to collect or trade including a mystery pin set. We also released a limited release Vinylmation mystery set with eight figures. You won’t know which one you’ve got until you open the box. Launch Bay Cargo – One of the coolest destinations for collectible merchandise is Launch Bay Cargo. This location is found at both Disneyland park in California and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida. Guests can find replica costumes, light up Lightsaber umbrellas, toys, collectibles and more. Fans can also create D-Tech on Demand phone cases with Star Wars artwork. In Florida, we also offer an option to create and personalize retail MagicBands. There are many Unforgettable places to shop at Walt Disney World Resort. This month, I’m beginning a new series featuring my favorite place to shop, dine and play – World Showcase at Epcot. A new story each month throughout 2016 will highlight unique products from each of the 11 World Showcase countries. I’m starting my trek around the “World” with a visit to Canada Pavilion. Impressive totem poles surround the entrance to the Northwest Mercantile that is home to products inspired by the diverse and rich culture of Canada. Inside, guests will find Canadian flag-inspired apparel, decorative items and more. This location also contains hockey-themed products celebrating popular Canadian teams. Guests will also find the popular “O Canada” logo merchandise first introduced in 2012. This program includes short and long sleeved apparel, drinkware and headware. You can read more about the program in this Disney Parks Blog article from 2013. Other favorite products include Canadian maple syrup, pajamas by Hatley, jewelry and soap from Goat Mountain Soap Company. New this year is an updated Canada Native program that includes colorful graphics of native wildlife such as fish, moose and owls. Look carefully at each graphic to find a hidden Mickey Mouse icon included somewhere in the artwork. Canada Pavilion also has a kiosk along World Showcase Promenade that offers additional items including personalized leather goods. Being a long time fan of Epcot, one of my favorite things I found in the shop were the intricate and beautiful carvings. The Disneyland Resort changes their gourmet treats monthly. The gourmet treat trio usually includes a Marshmallow Wand, a Caramel Apple, and a Mickey Crispy Treat. Sometimes there is a bonus item like a packaged chocolate bark! January’s flavor of the month is Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookie and it’s amazing. Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookie Treats My take home project included the Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookie Marshmallow Wand, a Mickey Crispy, and the Chocolate Bark. Let’s start with my very favorite of the three: the Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookie Bark. This stuff is 100% addicting. If you are a peanut butter fan, you’ll probably want to keep the entire 7 ounces to yourself and not share one single bite. Chocolate Peanut Butter Bark The unique thing about this new bark is that it’s the first time that the Disneyland Resort candy kitchen has made it “layered.” See that? Chocolate, peanut butter, chocolate! LAYERS! The peanut butter is smooth and creamy; it’s a like a giant peanut butter cup in slab form. The bark is drizzled with chocolate and peanut butter, topped with crushed chocolate cookie bits, and then sprinkled with chopped roasted peanuts. Creamy Peanut Butter Center A 7 ounce piece of the Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookie Bark will set you back $9.99, but it’s worth every penny. Here is the ingredients list. Ingredients If you read the blog regularly, you know that Disneyland Marshmallow Wands are one of my favorite treats. This month’s Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookie Bark Marshmallow Wand may just be the best one yet! Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookie Marshmallow Wand The marshmallow is dipped in caramel, then chocolate, rolled in chocolate cookie bits, drizzled with peanut butter and chocolate, then sprinkled with chopped roasted peanuts. Here’s a close up of the toppings! Toppings! I think one of my favorite things about Marshmallow Wands is the layer of caramel. I love the chewy and sweet caramel. This version combines the caramel with crunchy, salty chopped peanuts. The flavor and texture mix here is really great! The Gourmet Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookie Marshmallow Wand is $4.99 and incredibly delicious. Caramel Center The Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookie Mickey Crispy Treat finishes off the three treats that I brought home to try. Mickey Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookie Crispy Treat This one was my least favorite — not because I thought it was bad, but mostly because the Crispy Treat just isn’t a go-to for me. The Mickey Shaped Crispy Treat has a top coating of chocolate. It is then covered in chocolate cookie bits, drizzled with chocolate & peanut butter and sprinkled with chopped roasted peanuts. This treat is $6.49, which I think is a little pricey for what you get. I happen to like the pre-packaged Crispy Treats better than the gourmet ones; they are cheaper and I think they have a better flavor. I feel like you get more value (and taste) with the marshmallow wand. Close Up Crispy Overall, I LOVE this month’s gourmet treats. In fact, I wish they were here to stay… especially that bark! If you are visiting the Disneyland Resort during the month of January, make sure to try something from the Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookie line! I haven’t had a chance to try it, but there is also a caramel apple with the same toppings. All of the treats that I have mentioned above can be found at Marceline’s in Downtown Disney, Candy Palace & Pooh Corner in Disneyland, and Trolley Treats at Disney California Adventure. Here comes the smolder. If you’ve had a dream that the “Tangled” show would return to the Royal Theatre at Disneyland park, then this Friday will be your Best. Day. Ever. On the stage of the Royal Theatre in Fantasy Faire, the hair-raising tale of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider will once again come to life through the inimitable storytelling talents of resident Renaissance men, Messieurs Smythe and Jones. With the assistance of some fellow villagers and a little help from the audience, these lovers of legend and lore weave their version of “Tangled” with equal doses of music, whimsy, humor and heart. Winner of an IAAPA Brass Ring Award in 2013, “The Royal Theatre Presents ‘Tangled’” will play in repertory with Smythe and Jones’s adaptation of “Frozen,” each performed several times daily starting January 15. During a recent Disney Parks Blog Unboxed video, I gave you a first look at three new decorative figurines coming to Disney Parks this year. These figurines were inspired by characters and icons from attractions found at Disneyland or Walt Disney World Resorts. Here’s a closer look at these decorative items. We originally released a few decorative figurines when Disney Centerpiece opened in the Marketplace Co-Op at Disney Springs Marketplace in June 2014. You may recall seeing a stylized Sleeping Beauty Castle, Mr. Toad, the Orange Bird, elephants from The Jungle Cruise attraction, and a pineapple ice cream trinket box. This year, we are adding the crocodile from Peter Pan’s Flight, Big Al from Country Bear Jamboree, and Figment from Journey into Imagination at Epcot. Other figurines include Monstro the whale found at Storybook Land Canal Boats at Disneyland park, and a hippopotamus from the “it’s a small world” attraction. My favorite figurine is a miniature version of the Moonliner from Tomorrowland at Disneyland park (read about the history of this out-of-this-world icon in this Disney Parks Blog article. Look for these items in select merchandise locations at Disney Parks in 2016. I’m delighted to introduce you to Willie, a new resident at Rafiki’s Planet Watch at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Willie is an aardvark that frequents the outdoor stage next to Affection Section where I hope you get the chance to meet and learn more about him in person. Animal keeper Julie has spent a lot of time with Willie as he acclimates to his new home and she already has lots of interesting and fun stories to share about Willie. One of Julie’s most memorable moments happened when Willie first walked into Affection Section and every goat and sheep turned their attention to the new arrival. As Julie explained to me, “They were all very interested and lined up at the fence to check him out. It was just as enriching for us [cast members] as it was for all of them.” Although Willie generally focuses on learning new skills and exploring his world in the late afternoon, he sometimes decides to sleep through training time. (I’m usually ready for a nap around that time, too!) Willie’s behavior and preferred schedule is completely fine because all of the animals can choose whether they wish to participate in activities or not. As much as Willie loves to sleep, he seems to like to eat even more, especially bugs, bananas and avocados. On occasion, he’ll get honeycomb larvae as a special treat. In the pictures above, you may notice Willie is wearing a harness. This common practice is for Willie’s safety during the early stages of training, and while he’s getting used to the environment at Rafiki’s Planet Watch. In the wild, aardvarks can most commonly be found roaming throughout Africa, south of the Sahara. Because of their nocturnal nature, you typically will see them only at night. Aardvark populations are declining because of human habitat infringement and illegal hunting in the wild. They are hunted mainly for their prized meat, but also for their skin, claws and teeth which are used to make jewelry and some traditional medicine. AHOY, me mateys! Learn About: Tortuga TavernMagic Kingdom Disney World Restaurants Are ye ready to join us for some grub and grog while we check out the updated menu over at Tortuga Tavern? We let you all know a couple of months back that a new menu was being introduced at this seasonally-open spot in Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland. Granted, it wasn’t a huge surprise at the time, considering that Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Café had also debuted a new Mexican-based menu of its own that greatly resembled the Tavern’s previous menu. These days when you find the Tavern open, you’ll instead find barbecue options. Which makes total sense because everyone knows that pirates love nothing more than feasting on brisket and Texas toast or veggie salads while taking a break from all their pirate-y adventures. (I know, I know, there IS some great BBQ in the Caribbean. ;-D) Tortuga Tavern Sign Either way, it’s time to step back into this hangout for land-bound pirates once more. Goodness knows it’s rarely serving, so we need to get it while the gettin’s good! AtmosphereIf you’ve spotted the sign for Tortuga Tavern and thought, “Hey, this place with the big ol’ sign decorated with vintage ship mastheads looks kinda cool…” only to find it closed, you’re not alone. Tortuga Tavern Sign Tortuga Tavern is open seasonally, which means you’ll find it in operation during peak times for the parks such as the just-finished holiday season, or the upcoming weeks surrounding spring break. Basically, it’s open whenever you REALLY don’t want to be in the park! ;-D When it is open, operating hours are typically lunch-only for this quick service spot located directly across from the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. Pirates of the Caribbean Pirate Flags Outside of Tortuga Tavern Be sure check out (and abide by!) the Code of Conduct after entering under the Jolly Roger. Tortuga Tavern’s Code of Conduct (Sorry, Captain Barbossa. No monkeys allowed!) In terms of detail and atmosphere Tortuga Tavern is very well-themed, especially when you consider that it’s only open on occasion. It’s one of the reasons we make sure to stop in whenever we see it’s operating. A. Smith Proprietor Sign The beamed ceilings are decorated with colorful glass lanterns, but overall the lighting is dimmed. We understand this is the preferred style for the pirate clientele. Tortuga Tavern Lighting Tortuga Tavern Lighting The expansive outside dining area is partially covered and offers a great view of the walkway through Adventureland. Outside Seating Again, because it’s open on peak days, you may have to do some serious pirating of your own to find an open spot! Seating The limited indoor seating area pays homage to the infamous pirate, Blackbeard. Blackbeard Painting Even if you’re sitting outside with the vast majority of the crew, be sure to take a peek indoors to check out the nautical elements and sure signs of pirates in the vicinity, right down to the hats on the walls. Tortuga Tavern Decor Tortuga Tavern Decor Tortuga Tavern Decor A. Smith, the Tavern’s Proprietor, is kind enough to let the pirates hang up their beer steins while they are busy out at sea. Beer Mugs Hanging And Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom fans will recognize the fireplace, which acts as one of the magic portals for the game. (That’s right; even when the Tavern isn’t open, you can check out at least some of the details). Fireplace Playing a Magic Portal The mantelpiece above the portal holds plenty of knick-knacks including candlesticks, lanterns and pictures. Decorated Mantel Make sure you pay attention to the bathroom signs, which are themed as well — just like those you’ll find nearby the Pirates attraction. Caballeros Room Sign Damas Room Sign One of my favorite details of the room is the Pirate Roster book on display. And you can tell that Captain Jack Sparrow himself has seen it as well! Roster Book Whew! That’s quite a tour! But like I said, we can’t get in here too often so when we do, it’s time for some pretty serious exploring. AND some pretty serious eating! Time to check out that updated menu I mentioned… EatsLike most other quick-service spots, you’ll line up and order at the registers then grab your grub at the appropriate window counter. Counter Service Barbecue-inspired plates have taken over this pirates’ haunt; and overall it’s a pretty simple menu featuring three Barbecued Sandwiches, which vary by your choice of meat: pork, chicken, or beef brisket. A Roasted Corn and Vegetable Salad rounds out the offerings, with options to add beef brisket or barbecued chicken to top it. Tortuga Tavern Menu Kids’ Meals are also fairly limited. It’s either a Smucker’s Uncrustable or Macaroni & Cheese for the lil’ pirates. The specialty grog of the house remains the Strawberry-Lemonade Slushy. Tortuga Tavern Menu The previous toppings bar is no longer available. Instead you’ll find Texas Pete Hot Sauce as well as balsamic vinaigrette salad dressing. Buuuuuuuut, since Pecos Bill’s and Tortuga are SORT OF connected through seating areas, I’d bet nobody would bat too many eyes if you trotted your tray over to the Pecos toppings bar. What you’re topping I’m not sure, but there you go. Condiments Area So let’s get to eating! I decided to try the Barbecued Beef Brisket Sandwich, which is served, like the other two sandwiches, with Baked Beans and Coleslaw. Barbecued Beef Brisket Sandwich Served on two thick slices of Texas Toast (again, just like the other sandwich options), the portion is definitely decent. Barbecued Beef Brisket Sandwich I thought the brisket was well-prepared and tender, with the barbecue marinade lending a nice smokey flavor. Beef Brisket The generous portion of meat paired with the thick bread is definitely enough to fill you up! Barbecued Beef Brisket Sandwich Cross-section So on to the standard barbecue accompaniments: Coleslaw and Baked Beans. Unfortunately, the Coleslaw was very heavy on the mayo, making it waaaay too soupy. Side of Coleslaw But the Baked Beans tasted great, making up for the coleslaw debacle. Side of Baked Beans I also decided to try the Roasted Corn and Vegetable Salad. Though you can add meat to it, I was all set from the brisket so I went without. For the basic salad, you’ll receive mixed green lettuce topped with lots of corn, black beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions. Roasted Corn and Vegetable Salad In terms of size, I didn’t think the portion was too big (especially in contrast with the sandwich), but the fresh flavors were definitely appreciated! And the (estimated ) TON of shredded cheese on top sure didn’t hurt. Roasted Corn and Vegetable Salad While I really enjoyed the veggie components, I was a little thrown off by the red wine vinaigrette. I didn’t think it worked well on a southwest-style salad such as this. They did have a regular vinaigrette on the condiment bar, but generally I would’ve preferred a ranch. One thing that hasn’t changed at Tortuga Tavern is the dessert menu, offering two choices: Triple Chocolate Cake (the standard version you’ll find at quick service spots all over Magic Kingdom)… Triple Chocolate Cake …and the Tavern’s very own Cookies & Cream Gelato. Cookies ‘N Cream Gelato Ingredients The vanilla gelato has crushed Oreos mixed throughout. Cookies ‘N Cream Gelato Like most Disney gelato it is absolutely delicious and the Oreo twist offers a fun alternative to the other desserts and gelatos offered around the park. Why this version isn’t served in the other quick service spots offering gelato (like Pinocchio Village Haus), I’ll never know. I just take it when I can get it! So with a “Yo Ho Ho” and an “AAARRRGH” thrown in for good measure, it’s time to wrap up our time at the Tavern until it opens its doors once more. OverallOh, Tortuga Tavern. Seriously, I wish this place was open more often. The attention to detail and decor is one of the best in the park for quick service, and though the menu is certainly on the simple side, things are typically well-executed and fresh. If the Tavern happens to be open during your next trip to the Magic Kingdom, it remains worth checking out… if ye be brave enough to hang your own hat among the pirates, that is! We have some big news to share about one of the most exciting projects ever undertaken here at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Just about five months from now on June 16, Shanghai Disney Resort will host a grand opening celebration and welcome its first official guests. “When it opens in June, Shanghai Disney resort will be a one-of-a-kind, world-class destination that is authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese,” said Robert A. Iger, chairman and chief executive officer, The Walt Disney Company. “The resort reflects Disney’s legendary storytelling along with China’s rich culture, and showcases some of the most creative and innovative experiences we’ve ever created. We’re looking forward to showing it to the world and sharing it with the people of China for generations to come.” You might remember that previously we announced an accelerated expansion plan, which will allow Shanghai Disney Resort to offer even more magic, more attractions and more entertainment. The resort will include two richly themed hotels; an expansive recreation area; a unique retail, dining and entertainment district; and an incredible new Disney theme park with six themed lands and never-before-seen attractions designed specifically for the people of China. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to experience the park. When The Ganachery – Disney’s own specialty chocolate shop – opened nearly one month ago in Disney Springs, it was impossible not to notice that this little chocolate boutique had a unique vibe all its own. The Ganachery sign With specially-trained Cast Members (Chocolatiers) serving sixteen unique flavors of ganache, it’s clear that The Ganachery aims to offer a higher-end experience that isn’t replicated in other sweet stops around Disney World. The Head Chocolatier, Amanda The Ganache Case! “May these little pieces of chocolate inspire big ideas, lasting friendships and a lifetime of laughter.” But that doesn’t mean they can’t get in on the fun every now and then ;). Case in point: right now The Ganchery is featuring a Star Wars-themed Chocolate Bar, according to the Disney Springs Twitter account (@DisneySprings)! @DisneySprings Twitter Yep, it’s DARK chocolate all the way! You just gotta love a place that — while providing a top-notch experience — doesn’t take itself too seriously! Should you find yourself in Disney Springs, be sure to stop by The Ganchery, which you’ll find in The Landing area right next to the Sound Lion and not too far from new spots like Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar, Vivoli Il Gelato, and The BOATHOUSE. With the holidays behind us and Valentine’s Day still a month away, you may think that January is a quiet month for revelry and entertainment. Not so at Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant where The Willis Clan, famous for their appearances on “America’s Got Talent” and their reality TV series on TLC, will be taking the stage January 19-22, 2016. Featured in People magazine in 2015, The Willis Clan is a family band like no other. They write and record their own music, staying true to their Irish traditions while infusing originality from multiple musical influences. With all 12 Willis children taking on a musical role alongside their mom, Brenda, and behind-the-scenes dad, Toby, it’s no wonder that NBC named the group the “Today Show’s Sound of Music Family” in 2012. Since that time, they’ve played sold-out crowds in Ireland and have opened for Brad Paisley and The Band Perry in Dublin, Ireland, while their latest studio album, “Heaven,” recently reached #6 on the iTunes pop charts. As someone who loves a good live show, I can’t wait to see them perform on the Raglan Road Patio Stage later this month. If you’re expecting a hefty admission fee, you’ll be excited to learn that there is no cover charge at the pub. As always, the restaurant will feature their authentically Irish dinner and bar menus, seasonal local dishes, craft beer flights and a robust array of specialty cocktails. Though I haven’t yet met her in person, I was thrilled to find that Brenda Willis and I have one thing in common – we both believe that “Raglan Road is one of our favorite pubs in the world!” If you agree, don’t miss your chance to see The Willis Clan live on stage from 8:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m. Jan. 19 and 20, and from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. Jan. 21 and 22, 2016. This year, the Year of the Monkey, brings the return of the Happy Lunar New Year Celebration at Paradise Gardens in Disney California Adventure park, February 5-8! The event will celebrate time-honored traditions of the Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese cultures while inviting guests of all backgrounds to enjoy the festivities. For those who celebrate, it is the customary time to reflect on the past and step into a new life of hope, prosperity and happiness. Mulan and Mushu will join friends Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Chip n’ Dale during the festivities, celebrating the Year of the Monkey.
