Brunch has come to STK Orlando in Disney Springs. The nightclub-meets-steakhouse (a DJ spins tunes in the middle of the dining room) unveiled the new menu on April 2. This week we’re kicking off the month of April with a Disney Doodle that stars Lumiere from “Beauty and The Beast.” In the “Beauty and The Beast,” Lumiere brings light – and light-hearted humor – to the Beast’s cursed castle. So there’s no doubt he’d be curious to explore the most haunted place at Walt Disney World Resort, the Haunted Mansion. It’s full of candelabras! View the full article

All eyes at Magic Kingdom Park will be focused on the sky this Thursday morning as the U.S. Navy Blue Angels fly over Main Street U.S.A. The Blue Angels are expected to make two passes above Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort on April 6 between 9:30 and 10:00 a.m. In 2015, the Blue Angels performed similar flyovers to the cheers of thousands of guests at the theme park. Then, Six F/A-18 Hornet jets roared down Main Street U.S.A. at more than 250 miles an hour on a first pass before executing what is called a Delta Break over Cinderella Castle (pictured above). Be sure to check the Disney Parks Blog this week for coverage of the Blue Angel flyover at Magic Kingdom Park. View the full article

In the words of Disney Parks Moms Panelist Todd, taking a vacation to Walt Disney World gives dads a chance to be the hero of the family! A hero? Have you dads ever thought of yourselves as heroes when it comes to planning a trip? Well, Todd and Ricardo have, and they are sharing some of their most successful “dad tips” to help you plan your next magical getaway and be the hero in your family! “If they think you are a hero, be prepared to play the part. Go overboard, let yourself have fun and show the kids you’re having a great time. Whenever I go with my family I dress the part (Mickey shirt, backpack, ultra organized FUN MACHINE), volunteer for shows and experiences as kids love this,” Todd said. “Show them a little of what dad would have been like as a kid.” However, before dad slips into full kid mode upon his arrival to the parks, plan your vacation and make it a family affair, according to Ricardo. “Plan ahead and involve the entire family when it comes to important decisions such as resorts, restaurants and FastPass+ reservations,” he said. “I’ve been taking my family to Walt Disney World Resort for many years and we plan ahead … together.” While planning, why not suggest a date night to your significant other? Todd highly recommends a special evening and reminds parents there is no need to worry about what to do with the children, thanks to Disney’s Children’s Activity Centers. “The centers are fantastic,” explained Todd. “My kids immediately asked to go again when we picked them up! Plan a wonderful evening for that someone special and show them Disney magic is not defined by age. Some of my suggestions include adult meals, carriage rides and even a spa treatment, which happens to be my wife’s favorite.” Remember a Disney day can be a long day, especially for little ones. Ricardo reminds families to know their limits and remember to take breaks when needed. This might even include something as easy as a ride on the monorail, suggest Ricardo. “Disney Dad makes tough decisions,” said Todd “I’ve made decisions to skip rides, leave theme parks, and stay in rooms because these tough decisions avoided potential meltdowns. Know everyone’s limits and comply.” But remember Disney Dad can also be a super fun dad, or perhaps even a “dorky dad.” “Walt Disney World is the number one place in the world where dorky dads are revered for their dorkiness,” explained Todd. “I’ve even worn a quarter back wristband to the parks that usually carries football plays, but for the trip it had our plans for the day written out. I got so many unsolicited compliments from dads about how awesome it was!” “It’s definitely the place to bring out the kid in you,” said Ricardo. “Get a pair of ears or a silly t-shirt. Your kids will love it and so will you.” Ricardo and Todd both can’t stress enough to be in the moment when you are with your family at Walt Disney World. Forget about work and simply enjoy the precious time spent with loved ones. As Todd says, “work may have paid for the trip, but your job on vacation is to at least pretend it did not come along on the trip.” “One thing I love to do on every trip is to take a step back and simply watch my family enjoy the moment,” said Ricardo. “Remember you are on vacation and while a plan for each day is a good idea, follow it loosely so that everyone enjoys themselves.” “Hold hands, carry kids on shoulders, snuggle for fireworks and parades,” recommends Todd. “My favorite Walt Disney World picture is my daughter grasping me around my neck with Wishes Nighttime Spectacular taking place behind us.” So dads as you and your family plan your next Walt Disney World vacation, Todd encourages you to remember family first, plans second and dad third. “This may seem unfair to dad until you realize: dad is a major part of all of these items.” For more dad tips or to ask questions about planning your upcoming Disney vacation, be sure to visit the Disney Parks Moms Panel for a personalized response from our knowledgeable panel. Rapunzel, Ariel, Flynn Rider, and Prince Eric would like to wish you the “Best! Day! EVER!!!” Learn About: Trattoria al Forno Boardwalk Restaurants Disney World Restaurants They’re all part of a new character breakfast at Trattoria al Forno, located on Disney World’s Boardwalk! Guests can now start the day with favorite Disney couples such as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider from Tangled, and Ariel and Price Eric from The Little Mermaid, because the brand new Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast has officially made its debut at Trattoria al Forno (which continues to serve classic Italian fare featuring regional specialties for dinner). So grab your autograph books — and be sure to have your camera ready! — because some very special friends are waiting to meet you… Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast … at the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast! Atmosphere My friend and I had a 7:30 AM Advance Dining Reservation (the restaurant’s opening time). While the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast runs until 11:00 AM, the early arrival presented the opportunity to take a few pictures of a pleasantly peaceful Boardwalk in the morning. Early Morning on the Boardwalk Early Morning on the Boardwalk Early Morning on the Boardwalk You’ll find Trattoria al Forno, which joined the Boardwalk dining scene in late 2014, tucked between AbracadaBar and the BoardWalk Bakery. AbracadaBar and Trattoria al Forno Trattoria al Forno sign Upon entering the restaurant’s check-in area for the breakfast, you’ll find the scene set for typical day-to-day operations at Trattoria. Trattoria al Forno Waiting Area Trattoria al Forno The only notable addition is a small cart full of Rapunzel and Little Mermaid merchandise. Rapunzel and Little Mermaid Merchandise Cart Rapunzel Hats A display of dresses available for purchase is also present. (I can my fellow parents now — “Thanks a LOT, Disney.” ;-D) Princess Wear Moving into the main dining area, the atmosphere remains nearly the same as it is for dinner with a couple of exceptions that we’ll mention in a moment. Entering the dining room Brick walls, a mix of earthy and deep colors, and plentiful tables (with a few rounded booths for larger parties) set the stage. Dining Area Rounded Booth The exhibition kitchen remains the room’s focal point. Exhibition Kitchen Exhibition Kitchen We’re cutting the tour a little short (remember, you can see the entire restaurant here) to focus on how the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast differs from dinner at Trattoria. First, the music playing throughout the restaurant really helps to set the mood, as fans of the The Little Mermaid and Rapunzel will recognize the scores of the films setting the tone (no pun intended). Second, as you approach your table you’ll notice something propped in the center. Table Setting It’s the Bon Voyage Adventure Journal. Bon Voyage Adventure Journal Bon Voyage Adventure Journal Guests are encouraged to write about the Disney World adventures they’re anticipating for the rest of their trip in this keepsake, or record memories they’ve already made during their vacation (notice all four parks represented in the picture). Bon Voyage Adventure Journal And hence, the “Bon Voyage” theme! The breakfast is ultimately meant to be a great start to the “Best! Day! EVER!!” before sending you off into the Adventure that will be the rest of your day in Disney World! Once we sat down, our server also presented us with autograph cards. Autograph Card Sometimes an autograph card indicates that the characters themselves will not be signing autographs, but that’s not the case at the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast. See? Flynn Rider signing autographs Oh, what’s that? You just got your very first glimpse of FLYNN RIDER?! Well, it won’t be the last… Let’s say “Hello” to our friends! Characters While the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast celebrates two of Disney’s most beloved couples — Rapunzel and Flynn from Tangled, and Ariel and Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid — guests have the chance to meet each character one by one, as they are announced individually and come to greet each table in kind. Allow me to introduce (in order of appearance at the meal)… Flynn Rider!! Flynn Rider And the lovely Rapunzel! Rapunzel Prince Eric is next, dashing in his royal wear! Prince Eric And, finally, we’re joined by the Little Mermaid herself, Ariel. Ariel Even though each character visits each table individually, you know how it is with lovebirds… sometimes they just can’t resist stealing a glance or smile at each other now and then. Rapunzel and Flynn Rider Again, autograph books are welcome, and photos with the characters are encouraged! And keep in mind that Rapunzel, in particular, will be curious to learn about YOUR dreams, so be sure your little one is ready to share. Flynn might even give you a card so you (or your wee little Prince or Princess) can note your dreams to share with Rapunzel when she comes along next. “My Dream” Card I thought this was a nice touch to help prepare little ones who may be a little shy or even starstruck when Rapunzel comes by. (Not that I would know anything about being starstruck by Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. Purely a guess on my part ;D .) And from what I saw she — along with all the other characters in attendance — was great at focusing on the little ones and drawing them into conversation. Rapunzel speaking to a young guest That said, my adult friend and I didn’t feel out of place, even though we had nary a kiddo with us. Prince Eric chatting with guests Once the whole gang is assembled, it’s time for something of a Disney Character Breakfast tradition: the Napkin Parade! Ariel leads this one, leading children — and, really, any guest who cares to join — in a jaunt around the restaurant, with the waving of napkins completing the scene. Ariel Our server — who was truly attentive, kind, and enthusiastic about this new breakfast opportunity at Trattoria — even gave us a little lesson on some themed napkin folding (i.e., how to make shapes of a clamshell and fish, to fit in with life Under the Sea). Napkin Folding Demo Oh, and one more thing before we move on, lest you think I forgot… OF COURSE I didn’t. I KNEW you would want to see it. So, here it is… The Smolder THE SMOLDER. And now for some more hot stuff ! Here comes breakfast! Eats The Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast offers a menu of prix fixe selections. To start, guests receive their choice of Fresh Fruit or a Mixed Berry Parfait, along with a variety of Pastries for the table to share. Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast Starters Adults may also add a morning Mimosa, Peach Bellini, Caprese Bloody Mary, or a specialty coffee for an extra charge. Standard non-alcoholic beverages such as milk and juice are included, though oddly we were accidentally charged for our orange juice. We THINK it’s an accident, anyway. We didn’t notice it until after we’d left the restaurant. But just an FYI to check your bill thoroughly! Beverage Menu By the way, children can order the Little Mermaid or Buzz Lightyear Punch that’s available in many locations throughout Disney World. It’s fairly prominent, so you may have already seen the Little Mermaid Clip-on Light that comes with the punch. Little Mermaid Clip-on Light Though the other Clip-on option is typically Buzz Lightyear, it’s this little glowing Pascal at the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast! Pascal Clip-on Light Finally, adults may select from seven entrée choices: King Triton’s Shipwreck al Forno, the Golden Frittata, Tangled Eggs, Two Eggs Poached Under Water, the Tower of Pancakes, the Royale Breakfast, and Swimmers Delight. Entree Menu Meanwhile, kiddos have their own options to choose from: Pancakes, a Mickey Waffle, or the Little Royal Breakfast (traditional eggs, bacon, and toast). A note: it’s pretty nice having a Character Breakfast served to the table, as you don’t run the risk of missing a character’s visit as you might at a buffet. Okay, now that you’ve seen the choices, let’s dive in. The starter choices share a couple of things in common. In both cases, the ingredients are fairly basic. The Fruit Salad, for instance, is simply a very small bowl of pineapple, melon, and mixed berries. Fruit Salad But, it has a bit of added charm with the small cookie crown covered in edible glitter. Crown Cookie Likewise, the Berry, Yogurt, and Granola Parfait (though I do have to give a nod to the chocolatey, house-made mini granola bar), is also a fairly standard breakfast appetizer. Berry, Yogurt, and Granola Parfait House-made Granola Bar Still, you’ll see a glittering Sebastian cookie peeking out of the top. Sebastian Cookie Additionally, the table receives a selection of Pastries to share. Pastry assortment The assortment is presented in a frying pan, which I’m sure Flynn is relieved to see in use as a serving device (as opposed to Rapunzel’s weapon of choice). Pastry assortment I’m sure you’ve already noticed that these are not your run of the mill muffins and danish pastries. The items are wonderfully themed to the character experience, starting with the Sun Cookie, which perfectly resembles Rapunzel’s paintings. Rapunzel Sun Cookie This crunchy cookie brings together buttery pastry layers, powdered sugar, and a hint of almond flavor that tastes as good as it looks. Another signature item among the assortment is the rich, chocolate-filled Braided Bread – another nod to Rapunzel and her golden locks. Braided Bread The Clamshell Pastry, in honor of The Little Mermaid, features a raspberry filling. Clamshell Pastry Raspberry Filling And though the muffin sporting The Little Mermaid’s jewel tones definitely has a unique appearance, it’s actually a simple and moist vanilla muffin. Clamshell and Vanilla Muffin I have to admit, I was a little surprised when we entered the restaurant and didn’t see any extra decorations and such for this particular meal. As it turns out, the food itself is so well themed that it plays its own major role in creating the atmosphere, with one little surprise after another. I know, we usually don’t spend this much time on starters. But can you blame me? Okay, onto the main courses! My friend and I went with one sweet, and one savory entree. The Tower of Pancakes, served with a side of Bacon, is our sweet option. Tower of Pancakes and Bacon This stack of buttermilk pancakes is layered with a seasonal fruit compote (strawberry, on our visit), and admittedly the photo above is not the best angle, but I wanted to give you a sense of the plating. This close-up on the Tower gives a better idea. Tower of Pancakes And, yes, that is another Rapunzel-style sun in powdered sugar that you spy on top . Rapunzel’s Sun No maple syrup of any kind is required for this big pile of fluffy pancakes, as the compote provides plenty of sweetness, but helps to avoid too much of a sugar rush as compared to traditional syrup. I would have honestly liked more bacon on the side — not only because “more bacon” is always a no-brainer , but I really do think a bit more savory would’ve helped to balance all the sweetness between the pancakes on top of all the pastries. And while we’re on the topic of savory… King Triton’s Shipwreck al Forno King Triton’s Shipwreck al Forno is a HUGE calzone stuffed with soppressata (an Italian salami), bacon, sausage, and cheeses served atop an Italian Sunday Gravy. When it is presented at your table, King Triton’s Trident Scepter is holding this enormous pile of food together. King Triton’s Scepter Alas, your server removes it upon arrival. Cool touch while it lasts, though! Anyway, while the inclusion of bacon is probably what lands this item on a breakfast list, the emphasis is definitely on the cheese, sausage, golden-brown crust, and flavorful tomato sauce. King Triton’s Shipwreck al Forno Which makes it pretty much like eating pizza for breakfast. Which makes it pretty much awesome. King Triton’s Shipwreck al Forno I don’t care what time of day it is, this just works. I also like the fact that the Shipwreck gives morning guests the chance to enjoy some of the Trattoria’s Italian fare. My friend and I agreed this is easily an all-day, everyday, thankyouverymuch kind of dish, and neither of us could get enough of it. (Well, technically speaking we could because it’s crazy filling, so we did take home some leftovers. So that’s tonight’s dinner. Or tomorrow’s breakfast. Either way… Hooray!). Not a bad start to the “Best! Day! EVER!!!” Overall A few notes before we say “Bon Voyage” to you: the fixed price for the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast is $34 for adults and $20 for children ages 3-9, or 1 Table Service Credit on the Disney Dining Plan. When coordinating a visit to the breakfast with your park touring plans, it’s handy to know that Trattoria al Forno is within easy walking distance to Epcot from its location on the Boardwalk (boat transportation to the park is also provided). For those of you staying at or around the BoardWalk, we were told that Trattoria’s outdoor tables will be reserved for those who’d like to dine there for breakfast but aren’t interested in character interaction. The menu will be the same, though. Which brings me to my biggest CON when it comes to this new addition to Trattoria al Forno: with the Bon Voyage Character Breakfast, we’ve lost one of my favorite breakfast items on property — the waffles with mascarpone cheese. A holdover from Kouzzina, this gorgeous dish was amazing. So I bid it farewell with sorrow in my heart. But I’m glad that there are some indulgent dishes replacing it. I think the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast is a terrific addition to Trattoria al Forno, the Boardwalk, and Disney Character Meals in general. All the elements are there: good interaction with fun, unique characters (you can’t catch Flynn Rider or Prince Eric just anywhere) in a nice setting with a menu that has clearly had a lot of thought put into it. We learned from our server that the hope is to provide a terrific start to a day full of Disney adventure, and I’d have to say, I think the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast succeeds in meeting that goal. Disney4me posted a topic in Disney Blogs
Seeing the world through exchanges with our friends at RCI is, for many Disney Vacation Club Members, an important part of the magic of Membership. With thousands of other vacation options in destinations around the world, it’s an opportunity to expand, not only Members’ vacation horizons, but even the life of their Vacation Points – thanks to an option that allows Members to deposit unused Vacation Points for future use through RCI. This year promises to see more Members than ever enjoying RCI exchanges, taking advantage of special offers presented as part of Membership Magic in 2017. First, as announced earlier this year, the popular offer to waive the traditional $95 transaction fee is being extended for new RCI reservations booked in 2017, regardless of travel date. And, for a limited time, RCI will help Member families enjoy last-minute getaways by reducing point values (by 30 percent or more) for reservations made within 30 days of travel (based on availability). Members may begin booking these reduced-point, last-minute reservations on April 4 (a reservation made on April 4 could include a check-in date as late as May 4), with June 30 scheduled to be the last day to make such reservations (and July 29 being the latest eligible check-in date). Both nightly and weekly reservations are available through this special offer, which includes all eligible RCI resorts with the exception of those in The Registry Collection. To learn more, call Member Services or search resort availability and point values online at disneyvacationclub.com (Plan Vacations, Points & Destinations, World Collection). Main Street Electrical Parade has returned to the place it began, and today I am excited to share that – due to popular demand – this iconic parade will continue lighting up the night at Disneyland park through August 20. The parade has delighted our guests since its return in January, and the limited-time engagement is being extended with encore performances so even more will be able to enjoy its nostalgic magic this summer. A classic Disney Parks nighttime parade, the Main Street Electrical Parade began at Disneyland park in 1972 and ended its initial run in 1996. It returned to the Disneyland Resort as Disney’s Electrical Parade, bringing magical Disney stories to Disney California Adventure park from 2001 until 2010, when it crossed the country to begin its run at Walt Disney World Resort. Don’t miss this limited-time engagement of Main Street Electrical Parade at Disneyland park through August 20! View the full article

I don’t know about your part of the country, but it is WARM in Central Florida right now! With the temperatures set to hit the upper 80s this weekend, I’m more than ready to hit a Disney water park. This week we shared some of the first images snapped from within the brand new water attraction – Miss Adventure Falls – at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon, which I can’t wait to experience! One of the most story-driven attractions ever created for one of our water parks, Miss Adventure Falls tells the tale of Captain Mary Oceaneer, a world famous treasure-hunter and member of the Society of Explorers and Adventurers (S.E.A). Guests can wander through a queue stocked with her unusual findings like a bird cage, a diving helmet, a vintage Adventurer’s magazine that features the Captain on the cover and more. On the lift up to the waterslide entrance, you’ll pass the hull of the M.S. Salty IV, which appears to have been snapped in half by the storm. Inside, Mary’s parrot and trusted diving partner, Duncan, is busy chatting, singing, and keeping an eye out for even more treasure. You can peek inside to spy’s Duncan’s unique treasure collection, telescope and more. Check out the pictures above – and the original blog post – for more detail on this must-do attraction. Our Disneyland Correspondent Heather Sievers (you know her because she’s always Dining in Disneyland — and dining so well!) is more than up to the task of checking out new goodies. And this one happens to be on BOTH coasts right now! In addition to hanging out with yours truly at the 2017 Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival, and trying out ALL. THE. THINGS at the Red Rose Taverne (which has temporarily taken over Village Haus to commemorate the release of Beauty and the Beast), she’s still keeping up with the regular stomping grounds, too. And that includes stops like the Candy Palace. The Candy Palace Because there’s still nothing like a classic Mickey cupcake. And Heather picked up this Cookies and Cream Mickey Cupcake recently. Ears? Check. Chocolate? Yup. More chocolate? Uh-huh. Grey Stuff?!? Candy Palace Cookies and Cream Cupcake Hold up. We need to clarify something right out of the gate: It’s grey. And it is, technically, stuff (buttercream with bits of chocolate cookie and cream, more specifically). But it’s not actually THE Grey Stuff. Not like real Grey Stuff (which you can currently find at both Disneyland and Disney World). But this Cookies and Cream buttercream frosting IS super tasty. We can’t knock it for trying to look like… well, you know. And since there’s a TON of this sweet, thick, cookie-speckled buttercream on top of a chocolate cupcake base, it’s a can’t miss. Plus the ears are ALWAYS a win. Candy Palace Cookies and Cream Cupcake We can’t resist. You shouldn’t either. Because even if it’s not the Grey Stuff, it’s still… wait for it… delicious. Find it on your coast! It’s at Candy Palace, Trolley Treats, and Pooh Corner at Disneyland Resort; and at Big Top Treats, Confectionery, and Goofy’s Kitchen (and MAYBE Candy Cauldron) at Walt Disney World! Are you a Mickey Cupcake fan? Let us know! Disney Food Blog Fans, be sure to check out our DFB Disney World Dining Guide e-Books! Find great deals at DFBStore.com! Every mile is magic at a runDisney race! Whether you’re a first time runner or an experienced endurance athlete, runDisney is the premiere destination race series. You never know which Disney character you will “run” into on a runDisney race course. From photo opportunities to amazing entertainment throughout the course, runDisney delivers magical moments to last a lifetime. We offer nine themed weekends that take place at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, Disneyland Resort in California and Disneyland Resort in Paris! While the marathon and half marathon races headline each runDisney weekend, other offerings include 10Ks, 5Ks and Kids Races. Something for the whole family! From the Diaper Dash for future runners 12 months and under to the 48.6-mile Dopey Challenge during Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, there truly is a race experience for everyone at runDisney! I recently had the opportunity to chat with Faron Kelley, Vice President of ESPN Wide World of Sports, runDisney and Disney’s Water Parks, who shared some insight about our beloved brand. Faron has been with the Disney sports team since 2008 and was a part of the creation of the runDisney brand in 2010. Q: Why do you love runDisney? A: Why I love it is simple – we empower people to make their running dreams come true! Q: What is your favorite part of a runDisney event? A: The thousands of smiles, tears, high fives and hugs that we see at the finish line of every race. NOTHING is better than that moment when you witness all the hard work and dedication pay off! Q: Do you have a favorite race weekend? Why? A: Each one is so unique! I love the costumes at Star Wars (both Light and Dark Side), the heroic overlay of Super Heroes weekend (I’m a HUGE Marvel fan!), the girl power at Tinker Bell and Princess, and the nostalgia of Disneyland Half. And then there is Paris – BEAUTIFUL! But if you made me pick – it has to be the one that started it all – the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. Q: Let’s talk about the runDisney Health & Fitness Expo – as a runner, where do you make sure to stop? A: I love seeing the creativity of design that comes out with every race. But it always seems like I can’t leave the Expo without a new pair of socks, a bag full of energy gels and some kind of new muscle massaging device. It’s also great that the Expo is open to the public and anyone can enjoy it! Q: Has your family participated in a runDisney event? A: Both of my children have run in the Kids Races and my son is excited to take on his first Half Marathon soon. My sister and two nieces are also huge runDisney fans, with many medals to their credit. Q: If you had to pick one event weekend to run, which would it be and why? A: This one is tough – too much like picking your favorite child. But I can say after training in the Florida heat all summer, the Disneyland Half Marathon is always a welcome race with the cool morning California breezes. Likewise, running in Paris last year was nothing short of unbelievable. That race had some of the best views I’ve ever seen! Q: Can you share one of your favorite memories from runDisney races? A: This one is easy! It happens every race weekend. I always stay until the last runner crosses the finish line, and it is the amazing combination of sheer determination blended with the cheering of the crowd make everything we do totally worth it. Ready to run? Follow runDisney on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram. To learn more about runDisney events, please visit us here! View the full article
