  4. The Disneyland Resort honored original members of the Tuskegee Airmen from World War II during a special flag retreat ceremony on Friday, Mar. 24, at Town Square in Disneyland park. Members of the Los Angeles Chapter, Tuskegee Airmen, Inc., were hosted by SALUTE, a Diversity Resource Group comprised of cast members who enhance the guest and cast experience by providing a perspective of men and women who have served in the military. The first-ever African-American air squadron was formed in 1941. They were named the Tuskegee Airmen for receiving their pilot training on airfields near Tuskegee, Ala. Their bravery and patriotic spirit has forever earned their place in American history, and we were honored to salute them in our daily Town Square tradition. View the full article

  8. Well, it’s almost time for me to bid Adieu to all festivities here at Disneyland Paris. It has been a whirlwind week, with the launch of the 25th Anniversary – a ceremony with moving speeches from Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek and Catherine Powell, President of Euro Disney S.A.S.; the launch of fabulous new entertainment and attractions; and a BIG surprise performance from superstar John Legend. We brought you a selection of photos from the event; and if you want to see some of the action via video, the Disneyland Paris YouTube channel has highlights from the event. And the fun doesn’t stop with this week’s events. The new attractions and entertainment continue at least through the end of this year. So you HAVE to come see: I know I shouldn’t play favorites but – “Disney Illiuminations” was probably my favorite. In the new night-time spectacular, Mickey takes you on a journey through scenes from your favorite Disney movies like “The Lion King” and “The Little Mermaid,” with film projected onto Sleeping Beauty Castle, laser lights, fireworks and other effects that are simply mystifying. You will have to see it AT LEAST three or four times to really get the full WOW! “Disney Stars on Parade” – SUPER fun daytime parade with all the Disney characters you know and love. Definitely a great way to relax a bit in the middle of the day and let the entertainment “come to you.” The two new stage shows from the Royal Castle Stage at Sleeping Beauty Castle – Mickey Presents “Happy Birthday Disneyland Paris” and “The Starlit Princess Waltz” – are classic Disney entertainment. Singing, dancing, beautiful costumes and more Disney characters than you can count – what more could you ask for? Star Tours: The Adventures Continue – one of my favorites in the U.S. – is now here in Paris – Rebel Spy and all! I’m actually returning for vacation in June, to make sure my family sees all the great new offerings. Au Revior for now. Je Retournerai – I Shall Return! View the full article
  9. Are you one of the thousands that will be joining us at the Disneyland Resort for runDisney’s Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend this May? The event, presented by Pandora Jewelry, will be hosted by none other than Tink herself and her good pal, Peter Pan. The women’s-themed 13.1 mile course will take runners through Disneyland Resort and the city of Anaheim, Calif. For the more ambitious runner, like our own Disney Parks Moms Panelist and runDisney specialist, Lindsey M., there is even a Pixie Dust Challenge, which includes the Tinker Bell Half Marathon and the Tinker Bell 10K! Lindsey, who has officially participated in two runDisney races as a mommy, and many more before her little one arrived, is thrilled about being able to participate in a race weekend in which her little man, Jack, can also participate. “When I was five months pregnant with my little boy I ran the Super Heroes Half Marathon at the Disneyland Resort, and returned to that same race in 2016 with my eight-month-old in tow,” said Lindsey. “I’m so incredibly excited to attend my first runDisney event where my little one gets to participate! I am signed up for the Pixie Dust Challenge and Jack, at 14 months-old, will be participating in his first runDisney Kids Race!” To Lindsey, the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend seemed like the perfect first runDisney race for Jack, especially since his nursery is Peter Pan-themed. “He already has the Peter Pan hat embroidered with “Jack” from Disney Parks, so I’ll be incorporating this into an adorable Peter Pan costume that I’m in the process of making” she said. “As for Momma, I’ll be dressing as Smee for one race, which will incorporate some running gear I already have and a couple items I plan to create. For the other, I’ll be one of the thousands of Tinker Bells with my glowing wings and of course, my Tinker Bell runDisney New Balance shoes.” As excited as Lindsey is about the costumes, what she truly can’t wait to see is her little man toddling his way to the finish line and collecting his very own medal! “While I’m sure he’ll love getting to wear his own medal, the fact the Pixie Dust Challenge medal is a spinner, tells me he may be more interested in playing with Momma’s,” laughed Lindsey. And of course, no runDisney weekend is complete without some fantastic dining experiences. Lindsey is going all out with her advanced dining reservations, as they will not only be celebrating race weekend, but also Mother’s Day! “On our arrival day I have booked an early dinner at Storytellers Cafe at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa,” she said. “After I complete the 10K, and before my little one starts his race, we will be fitting in a breakfast buffet at Goofy’s Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel. ‘Mickey Mouse Clubhouse‘ is a constant in our house right now, so Jack gets extremely excited when he sees any of the Fab 5!” An early dinner is set for Lindsey and her family at Cafe Orleans in New Orleans Square, where she plans on enjoying the infamous Monte Cristo Sandwich. On Mother’s Day, after she has completed her 13.1 miles and has collected her medals, Lindsey has made reservations for Breakfast in the Park with Minnie and Friends at Plaza Inn on Main Street, U.S.A.! “I’ve never eaten at this classic restaurant before, and I’m excited to experience it with my family on such a special day,” Lindsey said. “As for the rest of the day, I look forward to watching Jack’s face light up at the Character Greetings and on Peter Pan’s Flight. For this trip, we plan on taking things easy and just seeing where the day takes us! The only must-do for us is spending time with Jack at the Happiest Place on Earth.” For more runDisney tips or to ask questions about planning your upcoming Disney vacation, be sure to visit Disney Parks Moms Panel for a personalized response from our knowledgeable panel. 10. The next installment of “Steve Harvey Makes Us Cry” won’t air until the week of April 24, but it’s a stunner. 11. Over the last 20 years, Disney Reservation Center cast member Lisa Ritchey has attended more than 300 Atlanta Braves Spring Training games. She credits her dad for taking her to her first Big League game as a little girl, when she met (then) New York Yankees player Greg Nettles, and getting her hooked on this great American pastime. While she’s more than a little dedicated to the team (she even schedules her vacation so she doesn’t miss a single game), Lisa has made friends through fellow fans through the years that she now considers her extended family. As we prepare to celebrate the 20th anniversary of ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex next week, we interviewed Lisa about her passion for the game and why she won’t even answer her phone once the umpire shouts, “Play ball!” View the full article
  12. This week’s Disney Doodle imagines what Maid Marian and her gal pal, Lady Cluck from the 1973 animated film “Robin Hood” would do if they had the chance to visit a Disney theme park. In the film, the ladies favorite pastime is playing badminton in the castle courtyard. So according to artist Ashley Taylor, it only makes sense that the friends would want to enjoy sports in the fine Florida weather. “Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort has larger than life design elements,” Ashley said. “While the characters from ‘Robin Hood’ are seen playing badminton in the film, I can imagine Lady Cluck and Maid Marian would have a fun time trying tennis, too!” View the full article

  16. If you’ve been keeping tabs on the latest offerings in both Disney World and Disneyland, it will come as no surprise that there is no shortage of specialty themed snacks on both coasts in honor of the Beauty and the Beast live action film that is currently tearing up the box office. Maurice’s Treats Fittingly, one of the spots in Disneyland carrying special treats for the occasion is Maurice’s Treats, located near the entrance to Fantasy Faire. As always, our Disneyland correspondent Heather Sievers was on hand to get us the scoop on the latest themed eats at Maurice’s Treats! Of course, one could argue that, as Belle’s dear ol’ dad, Maurice is always ready with Beauty and the Beast treats, revolving primarily around a menu of pastry Twists. But our favorite inventor has given the Twists an extra… umm, twist, for a limited time in honor of the film. Maurice’s Treats Food Menu Not only is a Grey Stuff Twist up for grabs (alongside the Cheddar Garlic Bagel Twist and Strawberry Rose Twist), but the menu has been further enhanced with DIPPING SAUCES!! Strawberry Rose, Marinara, and a chance to try yet another version of the Grey Stuff are on offer. One of the beverages here has been likewise enchanted: the Red Rose Lemonade Freeze. (Plus the tasty Boysen Apple Freeze is still available!) Maurice’s Treats Beverages So, “Let’s Twist again” with Heather, by trying all three Twists and Dipping Sauces! Maurice’s Treats Twist Collection First up: the Cheddar Garlic Bagel Twist. Since this twist is essentially a long, thick bagel, Heather recommends eating it right away to take advantage of maximum softness. Maurice’s Treats Cheddar Garlic Bagel Twist The tasty cheddar flavor is in the forefront (we never say no to those crunchy brown bits), and the garlic, while certainly present, isn’t trying to claw its way to the front. The smattering of sesame seeds on top is also a fun nod to the classic bagel. Heather ordered the Marinara Dipping Sauce to go along with it. She found it to be your standard marinara, but it did pair well with the Cheddar Garlic Bagel Twist. It’d be great to see these long-awaited sauces stick around beyond the film promotion. Maurice’s Treats Cheddar Garlic Bagel Twist with Marinara Overall, this is a great snack if you’re in the mood for some savory carbs. (And remember, you can get it in a to-go bag, to make the nosh-and-walk a little easier.) If you’re in the mood for something sweeter (and when aren’t we?!), Maurice has two more options up his sleeve. Heather — even as a non-strawberry fan — already liked the typical Strawberry Twist available at the cart, and the current Strawberry Rose Twist offers that same fresh, fruity flavor tucked inside the flaky pastry dough. (By the way, if you want to recreate the Strawberry Twist at home, we can show you how!) Maurice’s Treats Strawberry Rose Twist Its makeover comes from a drizzle of icing and pink sprinkles, to pump up the Princess factor a notch. Heather, of course, just had to try the new Strawberry Rose Dipping Sauce to go with it. Maurice’s Treats Strawberry Rose Twist with Dipping Sauce The rose flavor was subtle with strawberry taking the lead, and a consistency akin to yogurt. “Certain as the sun,” as the song goes, the Grey Stuff Twist (yep, it’s basically the Chocolate Twist) will be the go-to for the chocolate lovers. You’ll find the same flakey twist as the strawberry version, but between the layers there’s nothing but plenty of dark, rich chocolate. Maurice’s Treats Grey Stuff Chocolate Twist The Chocolate Twist is always a hit, but the best part about the Grey Stuff Twist right now is that it pairs so well with the Grey Stuff Dipping Sauce. Maurice’s Treats Chocolate Twist with Grey Stuff Oh. Yes. All the cookies-and-cream flavor of The Grey Stuff, only in dip form instead of a mousse. It really does pair perfectly with the Chocolate Twist. But, remember, you can mix-and-match as you choose, so chocolate-dipped-strawberry lovers might even order the Grey Stuff with the Strawberry Twist. The only rule about Grey Stuff is that there are no rules when it comes to Grey Stuff. Maurice’s Treats Grey Stuff Just get it while the gettin’s good! Not for nothing, if you are in Disneyland and uninterested in waiting up to two hours (!!!) to get into the Red Rose Taverne, maybe this Grey Stuff dip and a spoon can fit the bill for ya? At any rate, we highly recommend. Maurice’s Treats is also serving a themed drink with the Red Rose Lemonade Freeze. Honestly, though, Heather doesn’t give it a thumbs up. Now, it IS pretty, and we totally get the red rose tie-in. Maurice’s Treats Red Rose Lemonade Freeze But after one sip, Heather reports that she was done. Unlike the Strawberry Rose Dipping Sauce with it’s hint of rose flavor, the Red Rose Lemonade Freeze is — seriously — straight-up floral. It reminded Heather of the rose-scented lotion that her grandmother wore. But, hey, if you’re thinking “I always wanted to know what that rose lotion tastes like,” then go to town ! Otherwise, it’s a hard pass. Go with the Boysen Apple Freeze instead. So as to not leave you with a thorny taste in your mouth, here’s a friendly tip: you can also find Mrs. Potts Krispie Treats here! No fancy flavorings, just that classic krispie treat with Mrs. Potts gracing the sweet coating. Maurice’s Treats Mrs. Potts Krispy Treat We know, we know: Beauty and the Beast tie-ins are, like, everywhere du jour. But for the most part, that’s a good thing, since basically that means more variety. Plus it’s high time that that Disneyland-ers are getting to experience their own version of The Grey Stuff first-hand. As far as we’re concerned, Maurice can keep on creating all the limited-time treats he wants! Au revoir — until the next Beauty and the Beast-themed treat pops up — from Fantasy Faire! 17. It’s a beautiful morning here at Walt Disney World Resort and we’re kicking off the week on the Disney Parks Blog with this lovely sunrise shot snapped at the Canada Pavilion at Epcot. One of the most striking features of the pavilion are the storytelling totem poles, with each one representing a different cultural tale popular among tribes of Southeast Alaska. 23. Update #2 from Disneyland Paris: 7pm CET (Paris time) Throughout the afternoon here we’ve been privy to the debut of all the fabulous new entertainment here at Disneyland Paris, specifically created for the 25th Anniversary. They created not one – but two – stage shows performed in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle – Tres Magnifique! Mickey presents Happy Anniversary Disneyland Paris is a heart-warming show that features all your favorite things about Disney Parks entertainment – beloved characters, fabulous Disney music and a host of singers and dancers – what a spectacle. Mickey – in a sparkly new blue costume – invites his friends and Disneyland Paris guests to celebrate 25 years of magical memories. And for those princess fans out there, The Starlit Princess Waltz is a princess-themed extravaganza with Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Snow White, Cinderella, Jasmine, Rapunzel and Tiana, dressed in magnificent ball gowns, create a magical moment against the unique backdrop of Sleeping Beauty Castle and its spectacular fountains. Tinker Bell herself has transformed the Royal Castle stage into a starlit ballroom. It’s stunning. Lest we leave out the parade – Disney Stars on Parade features huge, spectacular floats with your favorite characters like Crush and Squirt from Disney●Pixar’s “Finding Nemo,” a ton of Disney princesses and adventurous pals from Disney’s “The Lion King,” “Jungle Book” and “Peter Pan.” And, of course, Mickey and his pals are there too. All this entertainment – one doesn’t know how to fit it all into one day – But I’m sure going to try. More later! Update #1 from Disneyland Paris: 4pm CET (Paris time) Just checking in with a little celebrity update: One of our favourites at the Disney Parks Blog is here – having a blast. Teri Hatcher (“Desperate Housewives,” “Supergirl”) is on hand, of course, to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the resort – this time with her dad – on his first trip to Paris. After a few days of enjoying Paris with her father, Owen, Teri arrived at Disneyland Paris, ready to celebrate. She caught the debut of the new Disney Stars on Parade, talked with some of the media guests in attendance, and even posed for a photo with Goofy. Word is – that she’s going to stay for the debut of the new Disney Illuminations night-time show tonight. Another batch of vacation memories made! Along with Teri, there a LOT of European celebrities and models here too. I don’t know any of their names really, but they are all gorgeous and look like they’re having fun. Anyway, back to the fun for me! Will update more later. Au revoir. Jour Deux (or Day Two) of my reports from Disneyland Paris! Let the celebrating begin! A little early you say? I’ve been telling you that the Disneyland Paris 25th Anniversary celebration starts on March 26 (See yesterday’s post for more info). Well, that’s true, but what’s a Disney Celebration with a big star-studded party? Leading up to the start of the big day for guests, the Disneyland Paris team has rolled out the blue sparkly carpet for a sneak preview of the festivities. Walt Disney Parks and Resort Chairman Bob Chapek and Disneyland Resort Paris President Catherine Powell launched the ceremonies in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle with a look back at the history of the resort; the honor that it has had upholding Walt Disney’s legacy of making dreams come true for guests around the world – with a nod to making more dreams in the future. “Since it opened its gates in 1992, Disneyland Paris has been a place where the young and young at heart can step into the worlds of their favorite stories, meet beloved characters, and become part of the magic in a way that only happens at a Disney Park,” Chapek said. “And we’ve got even more magic in store for our 25th anniversary.” Powell also talked about the legacy she feels as the resort’s leader. “We are proud to bring Walt’s heritage to life in the heart of Europe, to have made strong ties with Paris and France and to have made our guests dreams come true for more than a quarter of a century,” said Catherine Powell, President of Euro Disney S.A.S., “Now, more than ever before, Disneyland Paris is looking to the future, and continuing to exceed our Guests’ expectations. The ceremony ended with a dazzling finale of fireworks led by Tinker Bell herself and a host of Disneyland Paris cast members and favorite Disney characters. I’m a sucker for a fireworks finale! Well, that’s it for now. I will be updating this post throughout the day; and we’ll be sending updates through social media using the hashtag #DisneylandParis25. Stay tuned to the Disney Parks Blog for updates on the celebration and the exciting new fun at Disneyland Paris. View the full article
