Wow. Some weekend, huh? SO MUCH news was released at the D23 Expo on July 15th regarding new experiences coming to Walt Disney World. A bit of it was specific to my personal favorite topic — Dining!! We learned that a brand new Space Restaurant (and RATATOUILLE attraction!!) are coming to Epcot. ©Disney But there was SO much more, such as the upcoming Gondola transportation system, additional new attractions, an opening timeframe for Toy Story Land, and more. But even among these SUPER newsworthy items, the announcement that a Star Wars-inspired themed Resort is coming to Disney World really rocked the Disney news world! ©Disney The difference between this upcoming resort and a stay at a traditional Disney Resort is that it will offer an entirely immersive experience. This “living adventure” will welcome guests to become part of a Star Wars Story! According to Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney World Parks & Resorts: “You’ll immediately become a citizen of the galaxy and experience all that entails, including dressing up in the proper attire. Once you leave Earth, you will discover a starship alive with characters, stories, and adventures that unfold all around you. It is 100% immersive, and the story will touch every single minute of your day, and it will culminate in a unique journey for every person who visits.” ©Disney I love the rendering above, which looks to show sleeping compartments. Necessary, I know. But who could possibly spend anytime sleeping in this place?!? Now, clearly some aspect of this immersive experience will include dining options to feed all the citizens of the galaxy. We already know that Galaxy’s Edge — the confirmed name for Star Wars Land coming to Disneyland and Hollywood Studios — will have a Cantina restaurant and a Star Wars Dinner Club. So, what kind of dining options, experiences, and food could be incorporated into the Star Wars-themed Resort? Time to brainstorm and daydream, my friends! What do you think? What kind of eating experiences would you like to see — and taste! — at the future Star Wars-themed Resort?!? Please let us know YOUR dining ideas and daydreams for the Star Wars-themed Resort in the comments below! Disney Food Blog Fans, be sure to check out our DFB Disney World Dining Guide e-Books! Today marks the grand opening of the 14th Disney Vacation Club Resort – Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge! Inspired by the beauty of the Pacific Northwest, the resort features natural elements, such as wood and stone, in its design, as well as subtle nods to the American transcontinental railroad. The Deluxe Studios offer room for up to four guests, while the larger one- and two-bedroom Villas and three-bedroom Grand Villas seamlessly blend the comforts of home, such as full kitchens and in-room laundry, with the wonders of the wilderness to create a tranquil retreat for families of any size. The 26 all-new luxurious waterfront Cascade Cabins are the centerpiece of the resort. These two-bedroom, two-bath cabins sleep up to eight, offering modern luxuries with a rustic, yet upscale feel. Large dining and living room spaces, along with a screened-in wraparound porch (complete with a private hot tub!), allow for plenty of space for families. The resort is a short water taxi ride away from Magic Kingdom Park, and offers easy bus access to the rest of the Walt Disney World Resort, making it the ideal home base for families looking to explore a wide range of new Disney attractions, including the recently opened Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. While staying at Copper Creek Villas & Cabins, guests have shared access to all of the amenities and activities available just steps away at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. Geyser Point Bar & Grill, which opened earlier this year, offers picturesque views of Bay Lake, as well as explorer-worthy feasts and trails-end spirits in an open-air lounge. Roaring Fork, the resort’s original quick-service restaurant, has recently reopened featuring a refreshed look and expanded outdoor seating. The resort’s new leisure pool, Boulder Ridge Cove Pool, is themed to the legendary mining history of the Northwest featuring a zero-depth entry pool, a whirlpool spa and rustic first-come, first-served cabanas. Additionally, a brand-new sports court, BBQ pavilions and a refurbished fire pit and movie area have all joined the lineup of resort amenities. Those in search of extra pampering will want to stop by the new Salon by the Springs for pool-side manicures, pedicures and hair services. Stay tuned to the Disney Parks Blog for a video of today’s grand opening ceremony. Offering rousing musical entertainment, a visit from Conductor Mickey and more, it was an epic celebration that you’ll want to see for yourself! View the full article

Next Phase of Expansion Nearly Doubles Size of Fleet CELEBRATION, FL (July 15, 2017) – Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, announced plans today at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, Calif., to add a seventh ship to Disney Cruise Line’s award-winning fleet, giving families even more opportunities to create magical memories at sea and visit spectacular destinations around the globe. Last year, the leader in family cruising announced plans to build two new ships at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany with scheduled completion dates of 2021 and 2023. The seventh ship will be built at the same shipyard and is scheduled to be completed in 2022. “We decided two ships wouldn’t be enough to hold all of the exciting new experiences we have been dreaming up to take family cruise vacations to a whole new level with immersive Disney storytelling, world-class family entertainment, and imaginative innovations that are fantastically fun and uniquely Disney,” Chapek said. “By the time all three new ships are sailing, we’ll have nearly doubled the size of our existing fleet.” All ship names, design plans and itineraries are still in development, with each of the ships expected to have their own unique experiences. The three new ships will be powered by clean-burning liquefied natural gas and be the same size – approximately 135,000 gross tons with about 1,250 guest staterooms planned – which is slightly larger than the newest Disney Cruise Line ships, the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. Since first setting sail in 1998, Disney Cruise Line has provided a quintessential family cruise vacation experience that combines the magic of Disney with the wonder of exploring different parts of the world. Guests step aboard majestic and beautiful ocean liners to enjoy legendary Disney entertainment, exquisite dining, spacious and well-appointed staterooms and magnificent public spaces. With the launch of the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy in 2011 and 2012, the company introduced several firsts for the industry, including a water coaster at sea (AquaDuck) and virtual portholes in interior staterooms (Magical Portholes) that provide real-time views of the sea as well as sightings of animated Disney characters. With a legacy of revolutionary design, Disney Cruise Line’s new ships will usher in the next generation of innovative cruise experiences designed especially for families that will transform the art-of-cruising and take guests on adventures in a way never dreamed of before. Disney fans attending D23 in Anaheim got a huge surprise today. They were the first to hear that Disney Cruise Line is planning not two, but three new ships in the next phase of expansion. By the time these three ships are sailing, we’ll have nearly doubled the size of our fleet! That means more families than ever before will be visiting spectacular destinations around the globe and creating magical memories at sea! Last year, we told you that two new ships were going to be built at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany with scheduled completion dates of 2021 and 2023. This additional ship will be built at the same shipyard and is scheduled to be completed in 2022. “We decided two ships wouldn’t be enough to hold all of the exciting new experiences we have been dreaming up to take family cruise vacations to a whole new level with immersive Disney storytelling, world-class family entertainment, and imaginative innovations that are fantastically fun and uniquely Disney,” Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, said. We’re reporting live from the D23 Expo and we’ve got some super fun news for Walt Disney World!! Mission Space Restaurant and Ratatouille Come to Epcot First up, a brand new restaurant is slated to open in the next couple of years. Mission Space will be getting its own table service restaurant! Mission Space Restaurant in Epcot Not too many details yet, but we know the view will be out of this world ;-D. Also, a Ratatouille ride has been officially announced for Epcot’s France! This will open in a space behind the Eiffel Tower in the France Pavilion — a completely new section of the pavilion. This will approximate the Ratatouille ride already operating in Disneyland Paris, we’re guessing. Ratatouille ride in Epcot’s France Tron Attraction Comes to Magic Kingdom But Magic Kingdom will also be getting a new ride just in time for its 50th Anniversary… Tron is coming to Tomorrowland! Tron Ride is coming to Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland This popular ride currently running in Shanghai Disneyland is a fan-favorite! And while some may be disappointed to see that it’s in Magic Kingdom as opposed to Epcot, I like the Tomorrowland location. It’s a fantasy attraction — not reality — so it fits better into Walt’s vision of Tomorrowland in my opinion. So stay tuned — we’ll be updating this post with more from the D23 Expo as we get it! In addition to the amazing experiences for Disney Parks around the world announced today at D23 Expo by Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, a new immersive experience was just announced for Disney California Adventure park in California! In 2018, more of your favorite Pixar stories will come to Disney California Adventure park with the new Pixar Pier. Pixar Pier will feature a brand-new look for the area now known as Paradise Pier, as some of your favorite characters come to life on this seaside waterfront. You will discover whimsical neighborhoods filled with your friends from “The Incredibles,” “Inside Out” and even more of your pals from “Toy Story.” Building upon the evolution of Disney California Adventure park that began in 2007, we are building more new worlds for you to step into and enjoy your favorite stories. This permanent addition to the park will open during a new limited-time celebration taking place throughout the Disneyland Resort in 2018 — Pixar Fest! Experience the magical worlds of Pixar in brand new ways as the entire resort comes alive with some of your favorite stories. At Disneyland park, this incredible celebration will feature a brand-new fireworks spectacular as well as the return of the guest favorite, Pixar Play Parade. That’s right! This popular parade is moving across the Esplanade, which could only mean … The popular “Paint the Night” parade returns — this time, to Disney California Adventure park! And if you’re as excited as I am by that news, then hold onto your jet packs, Space Rangers — because we’ve also learned that there may even be a new float joining this already amazing nighttime parade. A new venue for world-class entertainment is coming to Main Street, U.S.A. at Magic Kingdom Park in Florida. And a first look at the new theater was just unveiled minutes ago at D23 Expo 2017. If the image of the theater looks familiar, that’s because the new entertainment venue will be based on the iconic Willis Wood theater in 1920s Kansas City, where Walt lived after he left Marceline. And as you can see from the design, it’ll fit well right off Main Street, U.S.A. “Across Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, we’ve been upping the game in Entertainment with shows like Frozen Live at the Hyperion,” Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts said. “It’s been a huge hit at the Disneyland Resort, and I’m sure many of you have seen it. This new theater at Walt Disney World continues that streak by bringing a new venue for world-class entertainment to the world’s biggest park.” We’ll have more to share as to what will be performed in the theater in the future.
