  1. On my recent Adventures by Disney Danube River Cruise, I discovered two adorable Austrian towns, Melk and Krems. Here I strolled cobblestone streets and was charmed by locals. To me, this was the epitome of my river cruise experience – discovering authentic places I never even knew existed, and being immersed in the culture and beauty of my surroundings. In Melk, Adventures by Disney guests find out what it’s like to live along the Danube. Try your hand at fishing, preparing marmalade and even traditional Austrian folk dancing! It’s an experience that allows you to indulge in local eats and get on your dancing feet. In Krems, embark on a tranquil tour of the countryside on a bike ride alongside the rolling Wachau Valley vineyards. Hike to hilltop castle ruins and savor a breathtaking view of the charming villages below. Here’s a glimpse of the adventures to be enjoyed in these picturesque towns: Stay tuned to the Disney Parks Blog for our final video in this series, showcasing the beautiful baroque city of Passau, Germany! 3. Heeeeeeyyyyy! As all of you know, I just returned to from a fantastic visit to Disneyland for the opening of the 2017 Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival! But I also had a blast checking into all of my favorite spots. Entrance I made a point to get to one place especially — the new Sprinkles located in the Downtown Disney District in Disneyland Resort! You guys — I make NO secret about my deep and abiding love for Sprinkles. Well, my love for cupcakes in general goes deep. After all, Disney Cupcakes are some of my favorite things ever. And there’s something well, magical, frankly, about having Disney and Sprinkles located in the same place. And now, I can enjoy that Disney Sprinkles fun whether I’m in Walt Disney World or Disneyland! Close Up of Sign As I entered the store, a glance at the menu showed me that many of my favorites were available on the day of my visit. This outlet is much smaller than the Disney Springs store, however. It doesn’t offer ice cream or coffee drinks like its sister location in Walt Disney World. Alas, no Cupcake ATM, either. Menu Since there’s no ice cream, you can’t order one of those amazing Cupcake Sundaes or an Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich. Inside But no bother…there’s still plenty of delicious available. And while I looked through the case, I spied a brand new item! Display Cases This guy caught my eye: the Cookie Cupcake. This guy is being tested at most of the Sprinkles stores across the country right now. (So that means you can get it in Disney World’s Disney Springs location, too!) Cookie Cupcake in the Display Case After reading the description — Chocolate Chip Yellow Cake, lined with a Crust made of Cookie Crumbs, and topped with Brown Sugar Frosting — I knew I had to make it my own. Cookie Cupcake Description But the proof is always in the pudding, right? I mean, description aside, I need to judge for MYSELF. And that’s just what I did. Here’s my very own Cookie Cupcake, for your consideration. MY Cookie Cupcake I seriously LOVE the garnish of Cookie Crumbs and Chocolate Chips pressed into the icing. Because I totally believe that a cupcake called a Cookie Cupcake should look like a cookie. And it does, right? Cookie Cupcake — Up Close But I had to investigate those claims of Chocolate Chips and a Cookie Crumb Base. And they were there. It’s all there. If you know me at all, you know that graham cracker crusts are some of my favorite things in the world. So a Cookie Crust?! Yes puh-lease. Cookie Cupcake — Out of the Wrapper When I cut into the cake, I found a good balance of Cake to Crust to Frosting to Garnish. Cookie Cupcake — Cross Section The cake was moist and — this is going to sound bad, but IMO it’s actually wonderful — the cake reminded me of a chocolate chip mini muffin. Ba ha ha ha! It was so yum. And the rich Brown Sugar Frosting was seriously crazy. It MADE the cupcake. You know when you’re making cookies and you mix the brown sugar with the soft butter first…and then you eat all of that and have to start over again? Wait…that’s just me? Well, anyway, if you WERE like me and HAD tasted that insanely rich combo of salted butter and brown sugar…yeah, that’s what this tastes like. Cookie Cupcake — Cross Section — Up Close Seriously — I need this to be a regular thing, because I’m thinking it would make an amazing Cupcake Sundae. And that’s just it. The flavor is being tested, so there’s no telling how long it will hang around (although the Cupcake Powers That Be said you should be able to find it at least through May). But Sprinkles, if you’re listening, Please keep it. And Readers, if this looks good to you, go get it now! So — I want to hear from all of you now. Is the Cookie Cupcake on your list? 14. Today, we’re back with a review of a special, limited time treat — just in time for the release of Disney’s latest HUGE movie — Beauty and the Beast! I give you the Enchanted Rose Cake Pop! Enchanted Rose Cake Pop. And Owl. With the Face. Okay…so Enchanted Rose Cake Pop is the dressed up name that I’m giving this one, because “Character Inspired Cake Pop” is so…. un-Disney-fied. But yeah, we get it. This is a Hot New Thing. It’s also a Hot Temporary Thing, meant to capture the imaginations (and the coin) of all of us who are half way to being in love with the new Belle and Beast (and Le Fou and the rest of the crew). And it’s certainly not the only BatB game out there right now. People are losing their minds about the BatB Light Up Rose Tumbler (more about that one in a sec). And Disneyland has gone all out by turning an entire restaurant into a BatB-inspired stop for fans, Red Rose Taverne. (Get the Rose Cake! Get it!) Enchanted Rose Cake Pop — In the Case So of course, we had to get our hands on the Rose Cake Pop and show you the goods. Out of the case and up close, you can see that this is a pretty artistic Cake Pop. On first inspection, the outside of the rose looked a bit waxy. And “waxy” really isn’t what I’m looking for in a sweet treat. But I pressed on. Enchanted Rose Cake Pop — Up Close The whole thing has a bit of a molded or sculptured feel to it, so I really wasn’t sure what I was going to find when I looked inside. Enchanted Rose Cake Pop — Top When I broke it open and took a taste, I found the coating to be your garden variety White Chocolate Candy Coating — tinted red to play its part. The green stem seemed to be the same Candy Coating, just tinted green. The Cakepop itself was a deep, fudgy Chocolate. Enchanted Rose Cake Pop — Inside But the most curious part of the treat was this Gummy Ribbon I encountered. Totally edible, but it threw me a bit. I believe its purpose was to help mold and “build” the cake, which was, indeed, rose-shaped. And the gummy ribbon gave a little raspberry flavor to all the chocolate! Interesting…and edible. Enchanted Rose Cake Pop — Inside Really, I have no idea. But don’t be alarmed when you bite into your rose and find something that looks like tape. It’s not. And By The Way…Have You Entered Yet? We are smack dab in the middle of a giveaway for one of the most sought after Beauty and the Best souvenirs — the elusive Beauty and the Beast Light Up Rose Tumbler! Enchanted Rose Cup And one lucky reader will WIN this beautiful cup. All you have to do is subscribe to the DFB Newsletter, and you’re in! Already subscribed? Great! 15. When Pandora – The World of Avatar opens at Disney’s Animal Kingdom this May, guests will be able to explore a brand-new world unlike they’ve ever experienced before. In the film AVATAR, the planet of Pandora featured an ecosystem all its own, with lush bioluminescent flora, precious fauna, and a culture of people who saw and respected the value of their precious planet. In order to create this new land for Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the project team approached bringing Pandora to life as if they were building a real world – unlike one anyone had experienced before – based on the world in the film. Our friends at Walt Disney Imagineering just shared this video, in which we learn how Imagineers and Animal Programs worked together to create a uniquely interactive ecosystem exclusively for Pandora – The World of Avatar. The park’s Animal Programs department, which includes conservation biologists and scientists, lent their expertise in order to help the land seem as authentically real as possible “We’ve had this group sit down and try to understand what would Pandora really look like? How would it feel? What sounds would you hear if you were taking a nature trail along Pandora,” said Dr. Mark Penning Vice President, Animals, Science and Environment, Disney Parks. To learn more, check out the video above. 20. Springtime is just around the corner, which means the return of the beloved Egg-stravaganza to Disneyland Resort. This fun, egg-themed scavenger hunt will take place from April 1-16, 2017, at Disneyland park, Disney California Adventure park, and Downtown Disney District. I recently “hopped” over to special event merchandiser Linda Votaw to discover what makes this activity popular with guests. “This is the fifth year we’ve offered the Egg-stravaganza at the Disneyland Resort,” explained Linda. “I believe our guests love it as spring is a wonderful season to visit. This activity is easy to do, and it’s something the whole family can enjoy. Even if you have been to Disneyland Resort many times, this scavenger hunt gives guests an opportunity to explore the theme parks and Downtown Disney District in a new way.” To participate, pick up a map and stickers for $5.99 (plus tax) at select merchandise locations throughout Disneyland Resort. Search for special hidden “eggs” themed to Disney and Pixar characters. Record your discoveries by placing the corresponding sticker on the themed Egg-stravaganza map to represent that location. Whether you choose to hunt for eggs or not, return your map to a redemption location for a surprise. Redemption locations include the following merchandise shops: Elias & Co. at Disney California Adventure park; Disney Showcase in Disneyland park; World of Disney Store in the Downtown Disney District. For guests visiting Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, don’t forget the Egg-stravaganza is currently taking place at the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival through May 29, 2017. Purchasing limits will apply, while supplies last. Please note that no discounts apply and separate admission is required to enter Disney theme parks. The experience is subject to restrictions and may change without notice. View the full article

  23. If you’ve visited Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, chances are you’ve met at least one cast member, but we wanted you to get to know them a little bit better. After all, it’s their creativity and passion that creates Disney magic and delivers the incredible guest service we’re known for. “Cast Members of Disneyland” is a collection of everyday cast members sharing their experiences on the job, stories of favorite memories and reasons they love working at the Disneyland Resort. Meet a few of them below! “It’s a privilege, really. I get to work for a company that I love, but to see magic happening right in front of me and to be part of making that magic…It just kind of embodies what Disney stands for and what it means to a child – not only the child who’s five but the child in the 65-year-old. The reputation really does live up, for guests and for cast members.” – Evamaria, outdoor vending, 4 years at the Disneyland Resort “I love talking to the kids…Sometimes all you have to do is ask a kid a question, and then they’re off telling you the whole story of their day. You have to find the fun elements of your job, then it’s not just a job anymore.” – Dave, Cars Land Merchandise, 29 years at the Disneyland Resort “With any family, this might be their one and only trip to the Resort, so I always try to instill that into new cast members – you just want everything to be wonderful for them and magical…you want to make all the good memories you can.” – “Mama Jan,” Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar, 10 years at the Disneyland Resort We will continue to introduce you to the #CastofDisneyland in the coming months. 24. Shanghai Disney Resort added five more awards to its roster over the weekend, this time from the largest trade association for the themed entertainment industry in China — the China Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (CAAPA). The resort’s spectacular first year of operation also includes accolades from the Visual Effects Society, TEA and IAAPA, the international counterpart of CAAPA. Accepting its third major industry award to date, Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure was honored with an Award for the Innovative Amusement Facilities in a China Theme Park. The attraction continues to wow guests from around the world for its ambitious storytelling at the hands of cutting edge technology never before seen in a Disney park. Also, Soaring Over the Horizon received an Award for Innovative Cultural Product in a China Theme Park, and Mickey’s Storybook Express received an Award for Best Performing Arts Offerings in a China Theme Park. Both offerings represent experiences unique to our resort in Shanghai. Did you know Mickey’s Storybook Express travels down the longest parade route at any Disney park? These are just a few of the can’t-miss options waiting for you at Shanghai Disneyland. The resort took home two more awards for China Theme Park Overall Planning and Outstanding Contribution to China’s Amusement Industry. The positive feedback we’ve heard from guests is overwhelming as Shanghai Disney Resort continues to deliver an authentically Disney, distinctly Chinese experience for guests from mainland China and around the world. Shanghai Disney Resort’s first anniversary is just around the corner in June, so keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog for more news as the resort approaches this exciting milestone. 25. The third installment of the popular “Cars” film franchise is set to arrive in theatres on June 16th in 3D, but fans can get an early glimpse of the story, which stars longtime favorite Lightning McQueen alongside new characters Cruz Ramirez and Jackson Storm, when the “Road to the Races” nationwide tour kicks off March 23-26, 2017 at Disney Springs Marketplace. Expect fun activities for the whole family, plus an extended “sneak peek” of the film when the tour rolls into town. While I’m personally most excited for photo opportunities with the three life-size character cars, there are plenty of other ways to enjoy the event. Alamo Rent A Car will sponsor a giant color mural; Coppertone will encourage guests to take part in a racer pit crew tire-changing activity and a fun photo opportunity; Crest and Oral-B will pass out prizes from the Piston Cup prize wheel (I hope I win a new toothbrush!) and will offer fans the chance to create a digital postcard with Lightning McQueen; at the Dole Refueling Station, you can sample high-octane smoothies; Mattel plans to present an interactive play area; and last, but not least, NASCAR will be on hand to share the history and science behind their iconic brand. During your visit, keep an eye out for “Cars” merchandise and special menu items at select food and beverage locations, plus a DJ dance party with tracks that will make you want to rev up your engine. Ready to race over to take part in the event? The tour, located at Disney Springs in the former Marketplace Bus Loop near Disney’s Days of Christmas, opens to the public on Thursday, March 23 at 12:00 p.m. and will run until 7:00 p.m. that evening. On Friday, March 24, and Saturday, March 25, join the fun from 11 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. And on the final day, Sunday, March 26, guests can enjoy the experience from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. View the full article
