We talk a lot about pretzels here at the DFB — because we pretty much love all of them. Ham and Cheese Stuffed Pretzels? Love. Authentic German pretzels in World Showcase? Uh-huh. Pretzel Roll Breadsticks at Le Cellier? Yaaaass x 5000! Learn About: The Lunching Pad Magic Kingdom Disney World Restaurants So when we heard that the Jalapeno Cheese Pretzel (which they’re now calling the Pepper Jack pretzel) we’ve loved for years (and which has always been available in Disneyland) was staging a comeback, we got twisted up in a whole bunch of excitement. So you know we had to get over to the Lunching Pad ASAP to tear off a piece of that. The Lunching Pad is located at the base of the Astro Orbiter adjacent to the Tomorrowland stroller parking — so beware that this area can get super crowded at times. But it’s worth it to pick your way through the chaos because the Lunching Pad serves up some great classic theme park grub. We particularly enjoy a good Hot Dog or Frozen Carbonated Beverages. Yum! But on this visit, we just wanted pretzels. All. The. Pretzels. Lunching Pad Menu One of each, please! Man, these are beautiful… Mickey Pretzel Trio Since the Mickey Pretzel is totally iconic (and now always comes with a cup of plastic cheese), we started there. From his golden brown ears to this doughy smile, we just love this little carby guy. Beautiful Mickey Pretzel It’s just as deliciously salty and toasty as always. Mickey Pretzel Close Up The interior is pillowy soft, exactly as you’d expect. Mickey Pretzel Interior And that gooey cheese — Mickey Pretzel’s best bud. It’s a little light in color, but it had tons of cheesy flavor. Mickey Pretzel with Cheese FYI: The cheese brand has changed recently, and while it’s tasty, it’s pretty standard packaged cheese dip and not as good as the Gehl’s that they were serving at some Magic Kingdom locations previously. Mickey Pretzel Cheese But hey — even standard Mickey plastic cheese is still plastic cheese, so we don’t complain. Cheeeeeeese You can get your Mickey Pretzel pretty much everywhere in Walt Disney World (and Disneyland, for that matter), and it comes with cheese in just about every location. It costs you $5.69 or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit. The Sweet Cream Cheese Pretzel served at the Lunching Pad had disappeared for a while, causing an outcry on the interwebs. But the pretzels made a triumphant return in October of last year and can also be found at Hollywood Studios (pretzel cart, left of the Chinese Theater!). Cream Cheese Pretzel Now, we know this is a fairly nondescript snack. No bells and whistles dotting the outside. No colored balls or glittery sugar. Cream Cheese Pretzel The outside is dusted in fine bread crumbs, which we kind of like for their simplicity and barely-there texture. Outside of Cream Cheese Pretzel But the real joy of this pretzel is the slightly sweetened cream cheese — that’s satisfying without being cloying. And pairs superbly well with the pretzel dough. Cream Cheese Filling We know it doesn’t look like much, but it’s awesome. And it’s totally worth the $4.79 or snack credit it costs. But you’re all chomping at the bit for the Jalapeno Cheese Pretzel. We understand. It’s called a Pepper Jack Pretzel now, but it’s still got the same dynamite flavor, and it’s the same as it was before. So spicy pretzel lovers, unite! Pepper Jack Pretzel It’s still got a great crunch to it, thanks to some tiny bits of cheese that have gotten nice and toasted on the exterior. There’s also a bit of seasoning on there. Pepper Jack Pretzel And is there anything better on any pretzel than the twist, where those doughy arms hug and create a chewy center? Pepper Jack Twist The inside of this pretzel features that pepper jack cheese, which imparts a hint of spice (we could stand more, but because it’s mild, these will appeal to a broad audience). You can even spy little bits of peppers as well. Pepper Jack Cheese Inside The Pepper Jack Pretzel (nee Jalapeno Cheese Pretzel) is a massive crowd pleaser, and we hope that its popularity will encourage the fine folks in Disney food decision land to keep this pretzel and expand its availability! Nearly 7,000 Disney fans were present for the live announcements, which included updates on Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, plans for new attractions at Magic Kingdom Park and Epcot, new Super Hero experiences at the Disneyland Resort, innovative new theme park transportation and more. “On the heels of the many new and incredibly popular experiences that just debuted this year, the best is yet to come. A few weeks ago, my fellow author Tom Smith shared a first look at retail MagicBands created for the opening of Pandora – The World of Avatar. These fun designs were a hit with guests visiting this exotic land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Today, I’m delighted to share a look at two new retail MagicBands recently released at Windtraders on Pandora. A teal MagicBand shows the Valley of Mo’ara at sunset. Casey Jones, Senior Character Artist with Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media Creative Group, created this artwork as part of a badge collection. This artwork is also featured on a luggage tag and a super soft Raglan tee. The gorgeous bioluminescent world of Pandora at night is showcased on a second blue MagicBand. The artwork was created by Dylan Cole, the Co-Production Designer for the upcoming ‘Avatar’ motion picture sequels, and is featured on a variety of products designed especially for Pandora including accessories and home goods. One of my favorite details for this MagicBand is its decorative box, which has a textured matte finish with more of Dylan’s artwork on the side. Both limited edition MagicBands have edition sizes of 5,000 each. With the innovation of MagicBand 2, guests can use these MagicBands and others to unlock the magic of a Disney vacation – from skipping the front desk and going directly to your resort room, effortless theme-park entry, to FastPass+ redemption and Disney PhotoPass association. The Mint Julep Bar located in New Orleans Square is essentially a must-do for every Disneyland guest. You’ll find it tucked into the patio area of French Market Restaurant and right next to the New Orleans Square train station. Mint Julep Bar It’s almost all in the name here. Mint Julep Bar Painted Logo The order of the day — every day — is the famous Disneyland Mint Julep. And the other “Scrumptious Delicacy” on the menu? Why, that would be Mickey-Shaped Beignets. Signature Items The Beignets are always reason enough to step up to the cheerful Mint Julep Bar, and are an item that just about everyone can get on board with. Cafe Orleans Mickey Beignets But the signature drink is, of course, the non-alcoholic Mint Julep. Now, for years guests have ponied up to order this beverage and walked away with something that looked like this: Disneyland Mint Julep Basically electric green mint overload. In fact, our Disneyland pal Sabrina (@everythingdisney.55) says that she’s heard it described as tasting like mouthwash or medicine. Even so, this classic beverage has won over many a Disneyland guest over the years, making it a beloved Disneyland staple. Love it or hate it, though, you’ll definitely want to know that the Mint Julep Bar’s signature drink has received a little make-over. Or, sort of a make-under, in a way. It’s described as a “refreshing mint drink with a hint of lime flavor”, and Sabrina is happy to say that the new version really fits that description. Mint Julep Bar Menu But the taste isn’t the only difference. The new Mint Julep forgoes the added green coloring in favor of a pale, more natural look. And instead of a boatload of bright red cherries for garnish, this Mint Julep receives a sprig of mint and a lemon wheel. (Sad face. I love cherries.) New Mint Julep The new incarnation of the Mint Julep dials down the mint and dials up the citrus, with stronger notes of lime and lemon. Sabrina says it’s now more reminiscent of a subtly mint-flavored lemonade. The New Mint Julep And it works. Between that tart citrus and the fresh mint, the new ice cold Mint Julep is a refreshing drink for the warmer summer months. And with the attractions of Rivers of America opening intermittently this summer, you’ll want to grab one of these and just take it all in. Mint Julep No matter your feelings regarding the previous Mint Julep with its psychedelic coloring and fun attitude, we think you definitely need to try this more sophisticated version. As we shared during our LIVE coverage at D23 Expo 2017, a new transportation service featuring vehicles themed to the one-and-only Minnie Mouse will soon be taking you everywhere you want to go at the Walt Disney World Resort. Today, we’re thrilled to share a look at some of the vehicles from the Minnie fleet as well as more details about this new point-to-point service. Starting later this month, guests at Disney’s Boardwalk Resort and Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts will be able to arrange their own private Disney vehicle right from their smartphone. It’ll be simple to do. Just arrange a Minnie vehicle and a Disney cast member will arrive and drive you anywhere you wish at the Resort in a magical way that only Disney can do. Earlier this year, I shared news that our exchange partner, RCI, is waiving its traditional $95 transaction fee for new reservations in 2017. With the thousands of RCI exchange destinations across the globe ranging from the bright lights of New York City to the historic grandeur of Europe and beyond, members have even more reasons to expand their vacation horizons. Now comes word of a new RCI offer designed to help members expand, not only their horizons, but also the shelf life of their vacation points. The offer involves the increasingly popular option of depositing unused vacation points for future RCI use, a savvy practice that extends the life of those vacation points by an average of two years (as opposed to traditional “banking” for general use, which generally extends the life of vacation points by a single year). As part of membership Magic Ever After in 2017, RCI is adding an additional year to the shelf life of deposited vacation points, giving members an average of three years to use those points for a qualifying RCI exchange. Do note that taking advantage of this particular option requires a non-refundable $100 fee.
