Riding attractions like Test Track and Soarin’ Around the World, meeting characters in the park and eating around the world are absolute favorites for her and her family! They enjoyed delicious Fish & Chips at the UK pavilion and macaroons at France! And even met Princess Aurora! But their ultimate favorite thing to do is spending quality time as a familia. Let’s take a look at their visit to Epcot! View the full article

  11. There’s a new place to grab some grub at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. Learn About: Chuck Wagon Disney World Restaurants And it might be the single coolest thing we’ve seen at Disney World in quite some time… Welcome to the Chuck Wagon! This new food truck is serving up Counter Service-style eats on its Fresh Fixin’s menu to all the Happy Campers at Fort Wilderness from 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM Saturdays through Mondays, and from 5:00 – 9:00 PM Tuesdays through Fridays. This here’s also the spot where you can grab some classic camping snacks (S’mores!). Oh, and some of those Fort Wilderness Moonshine Cocktails, too! But to load up on some of these treats, you gotta know where to find ‘em first. So join us on our jaunt to visit the Chuck Wagon! Though you may be surprised to learn it’s not actually a wagon at all. So then, what is it? Atmosphere Custom-made to blend in perfectly with its campground surroundings, the Chuck Wagon Fresh Fixin’s Food Truck is designed to look exactly like an old school RV. Get a load of this! The Chuck Wagon Food Truck And when I say old school, I mean it, as evidenced by the original Walt Disney World logos you’ll spot on the outside! The Chuck Wagon Food Truck Original Walt Disney World logo Hi, Mickey! I LOVE the back-in-the-day camping chairs hung on the side. And if you look up, you’ll find all sorts of camping gear strapped on top, no matter the angle you’re looking at the RV! Back of the Food Truck I can’t even explain why, exactly, but these (mostly) retro bumper stickers just do my heart good. We’re nerdy, nostalgia-fiends here at DFB. What can I say. Bumper Stickers So many guests who stay at Fort Wilderness come back year after year, and I think the theming is a fun tip of the hat to them — as well as to the fact that Fort Wilderness was one of the few accommodations in Disney World that actually opened in 1971. Of course, RVs are made for travelin’ so the truck could always switch locations ;-D, but on our visit we found it at what will be its most regular home: right by the location of the Chip N Dale Campfire Sing-A-Long in the Meadows Trading Post area. Chip and Dale’s Campfire Sing-A-Long Area Chip and Dale’s Campfire Sing-A-Long Area It was parked in the same area where the little old-fashioned chuck wagon used to sit, which previously sold S’mores, hot dogs and such before and during the nightly campfire. Nearby Tables In our conversation with a Cast Member we learned that this will likely be the truck’s full-time regular location for the foreseeable future, as it has essentially replaced the little chuck wagon. So let’s see what the new Chuck Wagon with Fresh Fixin’s is serving up! Eats We’ve actually got three menus to check out at the Chuck Wagon! Let’s start with the Fresh Fixin’s Counter Service Entrée list, which features burgers and sandwiches, along with a couple of salads and vegetarian options. Counter Service Entrée Menu The Fort Wilderness Smoked Pork Belly Tillamook Cheeseburger is the headliner (and we’ll get a closer look at those Ole Smoky Moonshine Cocktails on a separate menu). Just like the little chuckwagon before it (honored in the name of the Snack menu and by the small graphic on top of the menu), the food truck also serves snacks, with the ever-popular S’mores Kits and Marshmallows that are in especially high demand once the campfires are lit prior to the sing-a-long. Snack Menu A word of advice: eat your S’mores before Chip and Dale come out to dance and greet guests – those chipmunks love to sneak a S’more! S’mores Kit and Marshmallow Bag And note that you can get a Roasting Stick for 59 cents, if you need extra (the Marshmallows and Kits come with two) or if you forgot your own sticks while bringing your own S’more makings. Finally, Ole Smoky Tennessee Moonshine is featured in the super fun Moonshine Cocktails – some of which may look familiar to you if you’ve paid a visit to Crockett’s Tavern in the Settlement. Moonshine Cocktail Menu Bottled sodas and beer are available as well. Beverages at the Chuck Wagon Next to the food truck is a small condiments selection in between napkin and utensil dispensers. Condiments and Utensil Dispensers So, it’s time we settle down and dig in, starting with the Fort Wilderness Smoked Pork Belly Tillamook Cheeseburger with French Fries. Fort Wilderness Smoked Pork Belly Tillamook Cheeseburger We’re starting with the favorite of the bunch. Fort Wilderness Smoked Pork Belly Tillamook Cheeseburger There are some hefty toppings on this burger, with Tillamook Cheddar, chipotle barbecue sauce, lettuce, tomato… Fort Wilderness Smoked Pork Belly Tillamook Cheeseburger … and, of course, the star of the toppings: some delicious Pork Belly! Smoked Pork Belly and Chipotle BBQ Sauce Plus a beer-battered onion ring on top. Why not? Onion Ring This seriously savory burger had another highlight in addition to the Pork Belly (while the chipotle barbecue sauce also lent its unique smoky flavor to the mix). It was Onion Kaiser Roll, which was soft and tasty, but thick enough to hold everything together. The Smoked Beef Brisket Sandwich is also served on some great bread with the Kimmelwick Roll. Smoked Beef Brisket Sandwich By the way, you can also get French Fries with this sandwich, but I went with the other side choice of Cucumber Salad. Cucumber Salad The Smoked Beef Brisket is topped with coleslaw and horseradish cream…. and plenty of it! Smoked Beef Brisket Sandwich Granted, you need to really like horseradish to enjoy it, but I thought it delivered some nice heat to the sandwich, making it a little more memorable than it may have been without it. The main vegetarian option on the menu is the Roasted Portobello and Vegetable Wrap. (The Pioneer Berry Salad is the other, though non-vegetarian guests may add chicken to the dish.) It comes automatically with the Cucumber Salad, though I’m sure you could sub fries. Roasted Portobello and Vegetable Wrap The tomato wrap is PACKED with Portobello Mushroom. Roasted Portobello and Vegetable Wrap and Cucumber Salad Cross-section of Roasted Portbello and Vegetable Wrap Seriously, if you love mushroom, you will love this – there was a ton tucked into our wrap. Also included are zucchini, sweet onion, and red bell pepper with a basil aioli. My one critique is that I found it to be a little soggy, honestly, but it did have a lot of flavor going for it thanks especially to the aioli. All things considered, I’d say I finished well-fueled for a few good rounds of singing along to “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean” and “You Are My Sunshine” with just enough energy to spare for tearing up the dance floor with Chip and Dale! Overall Okay, all truths told, I think just about everything at Fort Wilderness is pretty much THE BEST THING EVER. But doing my best to put that huge bias aside, I still think the Chuck Wagon with Fresh Fixin’s is a welcome addition to the Campgrounds. Even though I loved the little chuck wagon that used to hang out near the campfire, the new Food Truck has greater capacity to provide more food options to the Meadows Trading Post area of the sprawling grounds. It gives campers nearer to the central area a new place to go for a meal without needing to go all the way to the main Settlement while staying true to the original chuck wagon’s role of providing S’mores and marshmallows for the evening Campfire Sing-a-Long… and with some new additions, to boot. Plus, the food is tasty and even though the menu is small, there has been some fun thought put into the options. Plus, Moonshine Cocktails . The Chuck Wagon accepts Quick Service Dining Credits on the Disney Dining Plan and snack credits on some items. Currently, it’s serving guests until 9:00 PM, but it’s anticipated that it will begin closing at 10:00 PM once Daylight Savings Time kicks in, giving all you Happy Campers one more hour to enjoy the new Chuck Wagon Fresh Fixin’s Food Truck! What do you think of the new Chuck Wagon? Please let us know with a comment! Disney Food Blog Fans, be sure to check out our DFB Disney World Dining Guide e-Books! Find great deals at DFBStore.com! 17. Manako means mango. February is ʻOlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian Language) Month, and our love of ʻolelo Hawaiʻi is one of the most unique aspects of our resort! Did you know that Aulani Resort was the first Disney property to recognize Hawaiian language proficiency on cast members’ nametags? If you would like to experience a unique and beautiful language, you need only say, “aloha” to one of our Hawaiian-speaking cast members. At Aulani Resort, we have a saying: Look twice, and think three times. With that thought, we begin a series on the Disney Parks Blog: The Language of Aloha. I will take you on a journey through the Hawaiian language that may inspire you to read twice, and think three times. Let’s begin with a word that I am rather attached to: manako, meaning mango. In Hawaiʻi, the mango tree commonly towers over our backyards, providing shade and sweet nectars. At Aulani Resort, you can experience mango scents at Laniwai Spa. Or, after a long day at the beach, you might enjoy a mango-flavored beverage at the ʻOlelo Room, a lounge where you will find cast members who are fluent in Hawaiian! There you can learn more about the Hawaiian language and all the beauty it holds. E kipa mai! (Come visit!) And when you do, try some manako, it’s delicious! A hui hou, until we meet again. Note: In printed materials, Aulani uses the contemporary spelling of Hawaiian words, which includes marks such as the kahako (macron). Because these marks do not often display correctly in electronic formats, including the text of the Disney Parks Blog, we’ve omitted them to ensure clarity. View the full article

  19. Thousands of runners in tutus and tiaras crossed the finish line this past weekend during the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend presented by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and amongst them was Katie Karp of Winter Garden, Fla., living out her own real life fairytale. As a little girl, Karp was an active runner and lacrosse player who always had a fascination with running. At the young age of 12-years-old, she began experiencing pain in her left leg the night before her first track meet. After the event, the pain became so tremendous that her parents decided to take her in for an MRI the following day, which marked the start of Karp’s journey with osteosarcoma, or bone cancer. Just a week after being diagnosed, Karp began the fight of her life and was determined to not let cancer win. She spent over 100 days and nights in the hospital as she went through chemotherapy treatments and eventually underwent the surgery that ultimately saved her life. The rare surgery resulted in 12 inches of her thigh bone being removed and replaced with an internal prosthetic. Karp is one of the few people in the world to have had this radical limb salvage procedure. The goal going in to the surgery was to just survive and walk again, but ultimately Karp wanted to get back to what she has always loved – running. Fast-forward to today and Karp is celebrating six years cancer-free and crossed over the finish line of her first half marathon with her two oncologists and physical trainer. Karp is a true inspiration and to this day, uses her experiences with cancer to help children currently fighting for their own “Happily Ever After” ending. Check out the video to see Karp’s journey during the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend! If you are running in an upcoming runDisney race and have an inspirational or extraordinary story like Karp, we’d love to hear it! 22. As you may recall, last summer the Disneyland Resort asked Anaheim, Calif., residents to vote for the location of their next Disney-sponsored KaBOOM! playground. After receiving an overwhelming number of votes, the Resort pledged to build five more playgrounds in Anaheim. The first was assembled last Saturday at Imperial Park! More than 200 volunteers from Anaheim, KaBOOM!, Girl Scouts of Orange County and the Disneyland Resort constructed the playground – the eighth Disney-sponsored KaBOOM! playground in Anaheim – after the existing playground was removed due to age. “A key ingredient in healthy communities is park playgrounds,” said Brent Dennis, director of Community Services for Anaheim. “This collaborative partnership celebrates the spirit of kindness and community. Here’s to many years of great fun and healthy recreation within Imperial Park.” Over the next few years, Willow Park, Julianna Park, Pearson Park and Barton Park will each get new playgrounds, bringing a total of 12 Disney-sponsored KaBOOM! playgrounds to Anaheim and giving more than 19,000 children a place to play! 25. Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory recently reopened after being reimagined. Though several new tastes of New Orleans were added, the famous beignets, which are made in-house daily, are still the most popular item on the menu! If you can’t visit Disney’s Port Orleans – French Quarter to celebrate Mardi Gras with King Cake, Po’ Boys and Jambalaya, get a taste of the “Big Easy” with a piping hot batch of delicious beignets with the recipe below. Laissez les bon temps rouler! BEIGNETS Sassagoula Floatworks & Food Factory Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter Yields 2 dozen small beignets INGREDIENTS 1/2 teaspoon dry yeast 1/4 cup warm water (105º) 1/4 cup sugar 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup heavy cream 1 egg 4 cups all-purpose flour 1/2 cup boiling water Vegetable oil for frying Powdered sugar DIRECTIONS: Sprinkle yeast over warm water in a small bowl, stirring to dissolve. Let stand for 5 minutes. Combine sugar, shortening, salt, heavy cream, egg, flour and boiling water in a large bowl; stir in yeast mixture. With the dough hook attachment of an electric mixer on medium speed, mix the dough just until combined and smooth. Let dough rest for 30 minutes. Roll to 1/4-inch thickness and cut individual beignets into 2 x 3-inch pieces. Cover with a towel and let dough rise until doubled in size in a warm, draft-free area, about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Pour enough oil into a deep-sided pot until it reaches 2 inches up sides; heat oil over medium heat to 350°F. Lightly press beignets to flatten slightly. Add a few beignets to oil; fry until golden brown on both sides, turning once. Remove from hot oil with a slotted spoon and place on a baking sheet lined with paper towels. Dust with a generous amount of confectioners’ sugar before serving. View the full article
