One of my favorite parts of KA WA‘A lu‘au at Aulani Resort actually happens before the show. When guests arrive, they will be greeted by our hosts and hostesses with a special lei. Then, guests will be encouraged to mingle around the resort’s Halawai Lawn as live music and performers set the tone for the evening. Also available during this time are various traditional arts and crafts for guests to not only observe, but also participate. Be sure to check out the following: Na Pua U‘i (The Pretty Flowers): You’ll learn the traditional art of stringing lei (or flower garlands) together, creating your very own to adorn your neck or wrist. Or, you can present the lei as a special token of aloha to a loved one. Pa‘i ‘Ai (Pounded Taro): After observing the traditional mashing of cooked taro into a thick paste called pa‘i ‘ai, join in and experience the effort it takes to make poi the traditional way. Kapala (Printing): Intricately carved bamboo stamps called ‘ohe kapala were traditionally used to decorate and embellish fine kapa (bark cloth). Create your own keepsake on a card using stamps inspired by traditional patterns of nature. Kakau (Tattooing): Pick a kakau design and have a local artisan draw by hand on your arms, legs or even face! You’ll experience a contemporary take on the painstaking age-old practice of a traditional body art. KA WA‘A lu‘au is offered on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings at Aulani Resort. In late April, Portobello Country Italian Trattoria in Disney Springs closed its doors. And today, we’ve received news of what’s going to come of the space! Terralina Crafted Italian will continue the Italian cuisine tradition when it opens this fall! ©Disney Chef Tony Mantuano — James Beard Award Winner — will return from Portobello to create Terralina’s menu, and will be joined once more by Chef Justin Plank who will run the kitchen. But there is plenty of change in store, too, for this all-new restaurant, which is currently undergoing a multi-million-dollar refurbishment. The result in the atmosphere will be “reminiscent of an Italian home” inspired by Italy’s Lake District, featuring an open kitchen and dining rooms as well as an outdoor veranda bar. ©Disney The wood-burning oven will be used to create artisanal pizzas along with fresh vegetable dishes. Mussels and a Grilled Pork Chop will be among the Signature Items, and a few familiar favorites from Portobello will return (including the antipasti platter and signature pastas). Tuscan Salumi Pizza from Portbello Terralina Crafted Italian will serve both lunch and dinner. Refurbishment Signs outside Portobello Andy Lansing — President and CEO of Levy Restaurants — states: “We are excited to have created Terralina Crafted Italian with a vision to deliver authentic food, hospitality and every last detail as part of a memorable guest experience.” So will Terralina be…well…basically Portobello with a new name? Or will it be a new concept altogether? We shall see. Disney Food Blog Fans, be sure to check out our DFB Disney World Dining Guide e-Books! Find great deals at DFBStore.com! Terralina Crafted Italian Opens This Fall at Disney Springs
Disney4me posted a topic in Disney Blogs
The much-anticipated Terralina Crafted Italian is anticipated to open this fall at Disney Springs in the space of the former Portobello Country Italian Trattoria. Good news, James Beard Award-winning Chef Tony Mantuano returns from Portobello to curate the new menu, and Chef Justin Plank will be back to run the kitchen. A multi-million- dollar makeover is transforming the space in The Landing on the shores of Lake Buena Vista. Inspired by the design and lifestyle of Italy’s Lake District, the new restaurant will be reminiscent of an Italian home, with an open kitchen, dining rooms with eclectic décor and a new veranda bar outside the main entrance. Chef Mantuano’s authentic Italian cuisine (much of it infused with his signature olive oil imported directly from Italy) will include artisanal pizzas and fresh vegetable dishes fired up in a wood-burning oven. Two new signatures – mussels and a grilled pork chop – will be on the menu, along with favorites from Portobello such as the antipasti platter and signature pastas. “Focusing on the hearth of the kitchen dishes will embody the passion and flare of the flames,” said Mantuano. “We are excited to have created Terralina Crafted Italian with a vision to deliver authentic food, hospitality and every last detail as part of a memorable guest experience,” said Andy Lansing, president and CEO of Levy Restaurants, who owns the restaurant. Terralina will be open for lunch and dinner – check back for opening dates. View the full article -

Sure, there’s plenty of new stuff to check out at Animal Kingdom these days, what with Pandora — The World of AVATAR still less than two months old. Welcome to Animal Kingdom! But we’re starting our tour around the Park with the return of an old favorite… Ice Cold Treats (and Not-So-Much) The Jungle Juice Slushy has returned to Mahindi! Jungle Juice Slushy Returning as mysteriously as it vanished a few months ago, we were pumped to see this freezy version of POG Juice (Passion Fruit, Orange, and Guava) back in Africa’s Harambe Village. As before, you’ll only see it listed on the main menu with the inclusion of the Musical Tumbler. Mahindi Menu But if you read the very small print on the Musical Tumbler sign, you’ll see you can still get the Slushsy on its own for $5.29. Musical Tumbler sign Just down the way, Harambe Fruit Market has some new treats up its sleeve. Harambe Fruit Market You can now grab some Flame-Grilled, Butter-Dipped, and Berbere-Spiced Corn on the Cob! Corn on the Cob sign Can’t you just smell it? Grill at Harambe Fruit Market Still, if you find it a little too warm for anything “Flame-Grilled,” you might opt for some Shaved Ice instead, available in Watermelon, Mango-Passion Fruit, or Pina Colada. Shaved Ice at Harambe Check out those spiked options on the menu, too! Shaved Ice Pandora’s Pongu Lumpia We’ve already got a small change to the menu at Pongu Pongu — Pandora’s drink station — to report. Pongu Pongu Pongu Lumpia, the station’s signature snack of pineapple and cream cheese filled spring rolls — has changed in serving size. Pongu Pongu Menu Now you receive one Pongu Lumpia for $2.99 (as opposed to 2 for $4.50 as previously served). Blergh. New Breakfast Options And Pandora’s Satu’li Canteen isn’t the only place serving up new breakfast options for Animal Kingdom guests nowadays. Local Food Cafes sign Local Foods Cafe (a/k/a Yak & Yeti Counter Service) is now serving a full breakfast menu through 10:30 am, including English Muffin Sandwiches, Breakfast Burritos and Tacos, and Hash Brown Bites. Breakfast Menu The regular Lunch and Dinner menu has seen some changes as well. Say “So long” to the Roasted Vegetable Cous Cous Wrap, and “Hello” to Vegetable Tikka Masala. Lunch and Dinner Menu Dinoland Switcheroo HEY-OOOHHH from Dinoland, U.S.A.! Pluto and Goofy in Dinoland, USA Heads up that you won’t find Churros (or the Bugs Sundae, now that we mention it) anymore at Dino-Bite Snacks. Dino-Bite Snacks The Churros have been relocated to Dino Diner, where they’ve taken the place of Cinnamon-Glazed Almonds and Pecans on the menu. Dino Diner Dino Diner Menu Discoveries in Discovery Island We found a price DROP in Discovery Island (perhaps that should’ve been the headline for this post )! The Feeding Ground Menu The Lotus Popcorn Bucket can now be found at The Feeding Ground popcorn-and-more stand for $11.29 (as opposed to the previous $15.99 price tag). Lotus Blossom Popcorn Bucket AND it’s still refillable! And we wrap with a very little something, but we know some of you may be quite excited to hear it… out first Pumpkin Sighting of 2017 has already taken place . Creature Comforts Find Pumpkin Bread back again at Creature Comforts (and perhaps your local Starbucks, too?). (And FYI, we found pumpkin and pecan tarts later in the day at one of the Disney resorts…so if you’re longing for Fall temperatures and flavors, they’re on their way!) Guests attending the D23 Expo 2017 at the Anaheim Convention Center from July 14-16 this year can visit a pop-up shop from Mickey’s of Glendale, the merchandise location that is typically only open to Disney Imagineers and cast members. Located in the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts pavilion, this shop will provide the only opportunity for Expo guests to purchase a unique assortment of Disney Parks-inspired merchandise. I recently caught up with the Mickey’s of Glendale team who provided me a first look at some of the items guests will find. Mickey’s of Glendale team partnered with Imagineers to design merchandise using their original artwork. Among the Imagineering Exclusive items debuting at the Expo are camp shirts featuring artwork and patterns compiled from iconic symbols from Adventureland and Pirates of the Caribbean. Other apparel items will include a salute to Star Tours which is celebrating three decades at Disney Parks this year. For the first time ever, Mickey’s of Glendale will feature bronze collectibles celebrating Walt Disney Imagineering’s heritage. With only 25 pieces of each figure available at the Expo, this extremely limited-edition collection commemorates the art of the Imagineering design process. Finally, in celebration of the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts: A Galaxy of Stories pavilion, Mickey’s of Glendale will also offer unique merchandise featuring designs inspired by the stories being shared at this year’s Expo. Pandora – The World of Avatar offers many ways for guests to connect with nature, animals and the overall living, breathing planet of Pandora. Whether it’s experiencing riding on a banshee or tasting Na’vi-inspired dishes at Satu’li Canteen, guests can truly immerse themselves in the wonder and culture of Pandora. Today we’re happy to share another unique way guests can connect with this amazing land – through music. Swotu Wayä (“sacred place of song”), is located in the heart of Mo’ara Valley, and is where guests can interact with a collection of instruments fashioned by the Na’vi that are connected into the moon’s root system. As guests play instruments, they connect to a living memory of song that responds to fill the space around them with music and light. At various times throughout the day and into the evening, a group of musicians gather at Swotu Wayä to perform a traditional Na’vi Drum Ceremony. Led by a musicologist who has studied Na’vi musical culture, the group also includes an expatriate from Earth and a native Pandoran who is among the first generation of humans born on Pandora. Check out the video above to experience the emotional power of the group’s performance. To see them yourselves on your trip to Pandora – The World of Avatar, be sure to check the park’s Times Guide on the day of your visit. View the full article

Every day at Disney Parks guests of all ages have opportunities to meet Disney Princesses and immersive themselves in their classic stories through memorable Disney attractions. To celebrate these beloved characters, the Disney Parks online store is launching a new limited release apparel and accessories collection called “Heraldry of Heroines.” I recently caught up with Cody Reynolds, Creative Manager with Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media Creative Group, who shared with me the inspiration behind the designs created especially for Disney Parks. “We wanted a collection that extended the story of the Disney Princesses at Disney Parks,” explained Cody. “Within the many unique kingdoms of the enchanted Disney realm lives an equally unique Disney Princess. In this collection, each princess is represented by an individual royal crest denoting strength, honor, and leadership. We looked to Fantasyland and imagery from classic animated features to design the coat of arms. This collection is a fun way to showcase the Disney Princesses without actually showing images of them.” Belle from Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is the first Disney Princess in this online collection. Limited release products will be available from July 10-16 at DisneyStore.com/ParkEvents. Items include apparel for adults and kids, along with accessories such as a tote bag or backpack. “The story of each Princess is woven into the design of each crest and is an undeniable mark of her adventurous, heroic spirit,” continued Cody. “Each design is filled with little gems waiting for guests to discover. We also included nods to the original fairytales.” Cody shared with me a sneak preview of additional designs coming to the online store. Guests will find collections inspired by Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” in August; Walt Disney’s “Cinderella” in September; and Walt Disney’s “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” in November. Two additional collections will be released in early 2018. The “Heraldry of Heroines” collection was created especially for the Disney Parks online store and won’t be found in locations at Disney Parks. Please allow 3-5 weeks for delivery once ordered at DisneyStore.com/ParkEvents. View the full article

Thinking about cruising with little ones, but need some helpful advice for smooth sailing at sea? The Disney Parks Moms Panelist Disney Cruise Line specialists are here to give you their best tips and suggestions for a wonderful family vacation at sea. Kick off the fun before you even set sail. “Schedule a surprise Character Call from Captain Mickey and his crew to let your kids know that he’s so excited to sail with them soon,” suggest Marcy. “My kids love getting the call from their favorite mouse announcing the trip. It’s a magical moment to videotape for sure!” You can also download the “My Disney Cruise Adventure” book from DisneyCruise.com. This handy activity book is fun for little ones before, during and after the cruise! Next, start packing! “When you pack for your little ones, I suggest comfortable, lightweight clothes for the day time with closed toed shoes that have good traction for the pool deck,” says Nancy. “Laundry rooms are available on each ship so, bring along a small collapsible hamper if you want to run a few loads of wash for a nominal fee (detergent and fabric softener available for a small charge as well). I also suggest having something like Shout wipes handy, especially if you don’t plan on doing laundry onboard. It may be several days before you get to the dirty clothes.” And when you are making that packing list, Beth recommends bringing a stroller onboard for little ones. “Disney Cruise Line does have a limited number available on a first-come, first-served basis to use once onboard, but having one to use in the Cruise Terminal during Cruise Check-in and after your voyage is super handy,” she explains. Beth also advises parents to travel light around the ship while enjoying the days at sea. “It took me a couple days into our first cruise with my son to realize that there is no need to carry everything in the diaper bag while strolling around deck or splashing in Nemo’s Reef; our stateroom is always just a short walk away from any point onboard. If he needs something that we left behind, we can always head back to our stateroom with ease and grab it.” Although every Disney Cruise Line sailing has more food than one person could ever eat, kiddos can sometimes be a bit picky, so Nancy says why not bring your own snacks! “I recommend bringing along a few of your sailor’s favorite snacks like goldfish or Cheerios (pre-packaged) from home to have in your stateroom and when you head ashore,” she says. “It’s nice to have a stash on hand especially if he/she is a picky eater. When my son was younger, I also brought a few of his sippy cups along with a bottle cleaner and a small container of dish soap to rinse them out in the bathroom sink. Room service can deliver milk and juice each day that can be kept chilled in the stateroom refrigerator.” The little ones are set, but what about Mom and Dad? Marcy reminds parents to make time for themselves too while enjoying a Disney cruise. “While the little ones have a blast in the Youth Clubs, Mom and Dad can sneak away for some adult time,” Marcy said. “My husband and I love dining at Palo and Remy, the two adult exclusive restaurants onboard. And who doesn’t want some relaxing time at the adults only Quiet Cove Pool while the kids are fully entertained at Pluto’s Pajama Party, Toy Story Boot Camp, and fun in Pixie Hollow at the clubs?” Nancy also suggests taking advantage of “it’s a small world” nursery. “Reservations can be made online once the online booking window opens for a nominal hourly fee.” she says. Nancy encourages parents to go by the first afternoon and introduce your child to the space, ask questions and get to know the wonderful youth counselors who will be taking care of your little one. For more Disney Cruise Line tips for traveling with little ones, or to ask questions about planning you upcoming Disney vacation, be sure to visit DisneyParksMomsPanel.com for personalized response from our knowledgeable panel.
