BOO to YOU from Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party!! Mickey has just kicked off his very first Party of the Halloween Season in grand style. This extra-ticket event will run on select nights (find the dates here) in the Magic Kingdom from now through the BIG DAY… October 31st for Halloween! It’s Halloween in Magic Kingdom! The Party serves up all sorts of not-so-scary tricks and treats such as special entertainment like the Boo-To-You Parade and Happy HalloWishes Halloween Fireworks, meet-and-greets with characters (some rarely seen) in their Halloween costumes, Trick-or-Treating stations, and SO much more along with access to the park’s attractions! Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party New Party-exclusive features this year include select attractions transforming for the Party! These include new lighting effects on Mad Tea Party, pirates interacting with guests on Pirates of the Caribbean while everyone joins the search for “Gunpowder Pete,” and a special soundtrack and new effects will transform Space Mountain. Trick or Treat Stations in Map Treat Locations You’ll definitely want that map (given to guests upon entering the party) so you can find the Treat Locations and fill it up with complimentary candy… if you remember the Magic Words : TRICK OR TREAT?! Once again this year there are great allergen-free treats for those in need. Simply request one of these designated teal trick-or-treat bags at a Treat Location. (Teal is the chosen color for allergy awareness at Halloween.) The witching hour’s almost here as Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party returns to Magic Kingdom Park on select nights from August 17 to October 31, 2018. This family fun event for kids of all ages is all about collecting treats, meeting Disney characters, and enjoying villainous entertainment from “Spelltacular” stage shows to parades. This year, event guests will be running “amuck, amuck, amuck” after seeing specially designed merchandise inspired by a beloved Halloween movie. “Guests who grew up watching the Sanderson Sisters in Disney’s ‘Hocus Pocus’ every Halloween will love merchandise saluting the film’s 25th Anniversary,” explained Cathy Dawson, product developer for Walt Disney World events. “From apparel to a Passholder exclusive tote bag, these items are a great way to remember both the motion picture and the wonderful ‘Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular’ stage show hosted by the sisters during the party.” New this year, Cathy developed three T-shirts resembling outfits worn by the Sanderson Sisters. “Guests are encouraged to dress in costumes at this event, so the T-shirts are an easy way to create an instant Halloween outfit,” continued Cathy. Other “Hocus Pocus” products include a black-colored Spirit Jersey adorned with a phrase uttered by the mischievous siblings, a cauldron-shaped mug, and a light-up ornament complete with a sculpted image of the trio. Guests will also find returning favorites such as short and long-sleeved apparel, and a brightly colored ear hat ornament. Painted with orange, black and purple hues, each item shows Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse enjoying the festivities while dressed for the season. Annual Passholders will discover several exclusively developed products, from a raglan top that has glow-in-the-dark printing to an Orange Bird collectible pin. These items will only be sold to Passholders, making them an extra special treat. Other pins this year showcase Disney characters enjoying sweet party treats such as popcorn, cupcakes and candy. Summer is waning, and fall is just around the corner. At Walt Disney World Resort, that means it’s almost time for the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival! The Eat to the Beat Concert Series returns to America Gardens Theater with nine new acts including 98 Degrees, MercyMe, Vertical Horizon, Glass Tiger, Sheila E. and Jim Belushi & the Sacred Hearts. In Future World, the all-new Disney Du Jour Dance Party electrifies the Fountain View Stage on Friday and Saturday evenings throughout the Festival, with great music and interactive dances and activities for kids of all ages. A different pairing of Disney characters stops by each weekend, so you could find yourself partying with Remy and Emile from Disney•Pixar’s “Ratatouille,” Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps from “Zootopia,” Lilo and Stitch or classic favorites such as Chip ‘n Dale or Clarabelle Cow and Horace Horsecollar! And every Disney Du Jour Dance Party is highlighted by a special concert appearance by an up-and-coming artist from Radio Disney. Here at the DFB we love to be surprised (in a good way) by the eats we pick up at the Disney Parks. And when that surprise comes in the form of dessert, it’s even better! Such was the case with the Brownie Temptation at Main Street Bakery in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. Cinderella Castle Main Street Bakery is the park’s Starbucks location, and it can be found on Main Street, U.S.A. In addition to Starbucks beverages and Starbucks-branded snacks, guests can also find more unique items. Main Street Bakery The Brownie Temptation is being advertised on a temporary sign, and the picture doesn’t elicit a ton of enthusiasm. It looks like a pretty standard brownie with (admittedly tasty) sauces. Brownie Temptation The reality is a nice, gooey bowl of sweetness, so an improvement over the photo. (An over-abundance of sauces is almost never a bad thing!) Brownie Temptation at Main Street Bakery The mound of whipped cream and drizzle of caramel are prominent. Brownie Temptation at Main Street Bakery The warm peanut butter and chocolate sauces spill over the sides and pool in the bowl, which is a good thing because the brownie is actually larger than I expected it to be. The choice of plating with the bowl contains all of those sauces. Brownie Temptation at Main Street Bakery The brownie itself is dense and moist, providing a lot of bang for the buck in terms of richness and chocolate flavor. Brownie Temptation at Main Street Bakery Overall, this one really surprised me! Why? Ha ha — I got a message on instagram asking “Why would you think a brownie with yummy sauces would be bad?” But the truth is, a LOT of Disney brownies are super dry and can’t be saved by the sauces in question. So, the Brownie Temptation was much more tempting in person than in its signage, and it really delivered! Due to the richness of everything combined, it’s definitely share-able, but if you decide to attempt it on your own, might I recommend finding a cozy spot in the shadow of Cinderella Castle where you can linger over the classic combo of peanut butter and chocolate? Disney World’s Mobile Order system, accessible through the My Disney Experience App, has been around for just over two years. Mobile Order lets you skip the register lines in participating restaurants by ordering and paying for your food in advance through the app. Mobile Order Option in My Disney Experience App Since its launch, we’ve seen the Mobile Order program expand to more dining locations within the four theme parks, and a very short lived couple of days for the Contemporary Resort’s Contempo Cafe. Now, it seems Mobile Order is giving Resort Counter Service options another go as it has expanded once again to include Spyglass Grill at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. Spyglass Grill, located by the pool in the Trinidad South section of the Resort, is a walk-up window is serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Spyglass Grill on Mobile Order System The Mobile Order option will allow you to order your breakfast, lunch, or dinner from your room, the pool, or wherever you are, and then pick it up when it is ready! As you order, you pre-pay for your meal with a credit card, debit card, or Disney Dining Plan credits. At this time you cannot use Disney Gift Cards or apply any discounts to the order – to do these items you need to order at the counter. And if this all seems a little too soon… it’s not. Because Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party kicks off on August 17th… tomorrow night!! All Day Treats Even if you aren’t attending Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, all guests in Magic Kingdom are able to enjoy the park’s festive decorations, and several snacks, to boot! You’ll see some familiar treats among the offerings. Halloween-inspired cinnamon roll! Stop by the Main Street Bakery where the Mickey Cinnamon Roll will receive its annual orange-icing makeover again this year, complete with a chocolate spider! The Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! Nighttime Spectacular is returning to Hollywood Studios in November for the holiday season, as part of the park’s festive Flurry of Fun! Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! Along with this festive projection and fireworks show comes the return once more of the Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! Holiday Dessert Party, pairing a reserved viewing area for the spectacular with holiday-themed food and beverages. Food stations will offer holiday sweets and snacks such as warm cheese fondue with pretzel bread, and classic Yule Logs. Guests 21-and-over can enjoy beer, wine, and specialty cocktails like Gingerbread Martinis! Non-alcoholic specialty beverages will also be available. The BAM! Part Party attendees will receive a visit from a special VIP character! And guests will also be able to enjoy the Disney Movie Magic show (prior to Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!) from their reserved viewing area as well. Disney World’s Caribbean Beach Resort has been undergoing major refurbishments over the past year (plus a few months). And the Moderate Resort’s dining areas have been greatly impacted during the renovations. So we are especially excited to share new information regarding Caribbean Beach Resort dining options, starting with the announcement of Sebastian’s Bistro! Sebastian’s Bistro Logo ©Disney Yes! Sebastian’s Bistro will be an all-new dining location, taking the place of the Table Service restaurant that was formerly Shutters. Sebastian from The Little Mermaid is a fitting inspiration, given the Caribbean feel and flavors that will be showcased in the waterfront restaurant. Sebastian’s Bistro ©Disney The vibe at the casual Table Service eatery will be made to resemble a “tropical beachfront home,” with coral patterns, kelp filigree, and nautical art and designs. (Think about “life Under the Sea,” as Sebastian would say!) Latin flavors will also be featured, blended with the Caribbean cuisine. Works continues as well on Centertown Market, and new artwork has been revealed showcasing the updated indoor street market atmosphere. Today is the Day of the Cotton-top Tamarin, a holiday in Colombia that includes family-friendly parades and colorful festivities, all to draw attention to the critically endangered monkey that lives exclusively in the country’s tropical forests. I’ve devoted my life to the care and conservation of animals and have spent a great deal of time focused on saving cotton-top tamarins. Helping these creatures literally takes a village – so I’ve been involved in collaborative efforts with Proyecto Tití, a nonprofit organization in Colombia. For years, Cast Members from Disney’s Animal Kingdom have traveled to Colombia to support the conservation group in efforts that include field research, scientific assessments and community outreach. Alejandra Aramburo and Jackie Buckley, keepers at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, recently returned from a visit where they worked with Proyecto Tití’s educators on their community education and engagement programs. These programs help reinforce national pride in the cotton-top tamarins, educate locals on the best ways to support the tamarins’ survival and build respect for the environment of the tropical forests where the animals live. Jackie, who is part Colombian, told me she found it very rewarding to help native wildlife in a country that means so much to her and her family. Both Alejandra and Jackie remarked on the kindness of the locals and the strong sense of community they felt, even in the smallest of towns. The experience of making a significant contribution to conservation and working with people they may never have met otherwise was life-changing for both of them. “I was super-thankful for the opportunity,” Jackie said. “I feel like I’ve grown as a person, as a trainer and as a conservation educator…I want more people to experience this and to be able to tell more guests about it.” Another way Proyecto Tití supports cotton-top tamarins is by helping develop sustainable programs to generate revenue for the community so that locals can reduce their dependency on forest products. For example, local artisans crochet eco-mochila purses, totes and bracelets from plastic bags that may otherwise end up littering the forest. These are sold online and at the Walt Disney World Resort, which is helping boost the economy of the locals who live near cotton-top tamarins. It’s also helping clean the forest of waste that could be harmful to all animals.
