Those of you traveling to Walt Disney World in the next couple of weeks are definitely going to want to know about the temporary closure of one of Fantasyland’s most beloved rides. Peter Pan’s Flight will be closed for refurbishment through early February! Peter Pan’s Flight Refurbishment No details about the reason for the refurbishment have been released, but the closure is scheduled through February 2, 2019. The short timeframe likely provides a clue to some simple maintenance work. Peter Pan’s Flight Refurbishment Even though the closure is short — lasting under a month, if it opens as scheduled — it throws a wrench into the plans of visitors this time of year. If you haven’t experienced Storybook Dining at Artist Point, I highly encourage you to make a reservation! I’ve visited a lot – ok, most – of the restaurants at Walt Disney World Resort, and this is one of my favorites. During your visit, you’ll dine in an enchanted forest setting inspired by Walt Disney’s “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” where you’ll meet Snow White, Dopey, and Grumpy, and of course enjoy some incredible food! If I could make a wish into a well, I’d ask for the Winter Squash Bisque to magically appear in my kitchen every night. While the food won’t last forever (and in my case not very long at all) the memories can! The Queen will be lurking nearby, and a Disney PhotoPass Service photographer will be there to capture a wickedly good photo of your encounter! This 18-minute show features more lasers, lights and projections than any other spectacular in Magic Kingdom Park history. There’s a lot going on in Epcot! World Showcase is getting ready for a new nighttime show after IllumiNations ends, Japan is welcoming a new table-service restaurant, France is adding a Ratatouille Ride and Beauty and the Beast attraction, and a Guardians of the Galaxy ride is coming to Future World. That means lots of construction, construction walls, scrims, and more around the park. We checked on the progress of all of these projects on our latest visit to the park. Guardians of the Galaxy Ride Construction With one of the more colorful construction walls in the park — the Guardians of the Galaxy ride is coming along with the conversion of the former Universe of Energy building into the queue building for the new ride. Epcot Guardians of the Galaxy Ride Construction Update The solar panels have been removed and you can see through the entire building now. It also looks like some of the panels or accents on the side of the building are being removed or changed. Guardians of the Galaxy Ride Construction Behind the trees you can see some of the immense building that will house the actual ride — that is going to have some pretty revolutionary ride vehicles when it opens in 2021! Guardians of the Galaxy Ride Construction We learned at IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions) that four Spaceship Earths could fit in this ride building! Almost all of the panels have been added to the outside of the ride building. Guardians of the Galaxy Ride Construction Epcot World Showcase Lagoon Construction Update In World Showcase you’ll notice construction on the islands in the lagoon. We are guessing this is work to prepare for the new nighttime show coming to Epcot later this year “Celebrate Epcot.” World Showcase Lagoon Construction World Showcase Lagoon Construction If you’re an IllumiNations fan, the Rose and Crown just announced a special dining package that includes Lagoon-front viewing of the show after a prix-fixe meal. World Showcase Lagoon Construction World Showcase Lagoon Construction Epcot France Pavilion Ratatouille and Beauty and the Beast Construction Update We’ve known for a while about the France Pavilion welcoming the Ratatouille ride from Disneyland Paris, but just learned recently at a D23 event about the Beauty and Beast Sing-Along attraction also opening here. France Pavilion Construction The Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along will debut “soon” according to Disney. Fans of the film Impressions de France in the pavilion don’t need to worry, the sign-along is being added to the pavilion, and not taking the place of the film. The Ratatouille ride, called Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, will open in 2021. France Pavilion Construction Epcot Japan Pavilion New Table Service Restaurant Construction Update A new signature dining experience is coming to Japan! We don’t know much about this location yet, including an opening time frame. But we’ll keep you posted! I was recently sent into Disneyland park to capture photography of the Fortune Red and Esmeralda the Fortune Teller machines. I figured the project would take about an hour. I was wrong, but I love being wrong because in those moments because I learn something new. I went out around midday and didn’t have any trouble with Fortune Red. He’s tucked away in an evenly-lit corner of New Orleans Square. I was certain that reflections were going to be tricky with Esmeralda at that hour, but figured a well-timed group of passing guests could cast a shadow sufficient to yield a usable photograph – no luck. I went back out closer to dusk that day. Alas, while it was easier to see the character, I found reflections from street lamps almost as distracting as the glare of a midday Main Street, U.S.A. Then, I came back early the following morning and hoped I could get this picture in the can right after the park opened – the sun should still be low enough in the sky, I thought. I could see glare of morning sun crawling down the Penny Arcade wall as the clock struck 8 a.m. and the shop’s door began to slide open. I started snapping photos as soon as the door was open and enjoyed about 60-seconds of photography time before the sun was reflecting back at me. Success! Overcoming photographic challenges like this one are a really satisfying part of the work I do for Disneyland Resort. Best job in the world! View the full article

There are two new limited time menu items at D-Luxe Burger, and we thought it was a lovely day to visit Disney Springs to try them! New Caribbean Burger at D-Luxe in Disney Springs You’ll spot one of the two items on the burger menu in this fast-casual restaurant, and that’s the Caribbean Burger. It’s $12.49. Burger Menu The second item is not yet appearing on the menu, but you can also order up Tostones — deep-fried flattened plantains — for $4.99. Tostones and Caribbean Burger The Caribbean Burger is a patty made with D-Luxe’s signature blend of meats and topped with chayote slaw, Scotch Bonnet Pepper Aioli, fried plantain, lettuce, and tomato. Caribbean Burger And the combo of those ingredients is delicious, though the burger itself seemed to have a little less of a “wow” factor than others we’ve enjoyed here previously. Caribbean Burger There wasn’t much in the way of heat from the aioli, which is what we feel was missing. Caribbean Burger And those plantains are super crispy. So much so that, while they’re a pretty fantastic touch in regards to flavor, they’re a little difficult to eat topping the burger. Caribbean Burger Which is why we’re glad that the Tostones are available to be ordered on their own. Tostones These are a really fun change of pace for a side item, and even though they have been announced as a limited run item, we’d love to see them added as a regular side option… especially when considering the options for dipping here at D-Luxe! Tonight we’re attending the Potion Purple Premiere Pop-Up Event for Disney World Annual Passholders to check out some of the new purple treats that will be available for purchase to all Magic Kingdom guests tomorrow. Purple Minnie Cake on a Stick ©Disney This celebration of the latest color craze is the first of what will be several new pop-up shopping experiences which will be replacing the monthly Super Saturdays for 2019. (So, Passholders please note that there will be no Super Saturday in Disney Springs on January 12, 2019.) It’s definitely looking a little more artistic around Epcot this week as the park prepares for the opening of the Festival of the Arts next Friday, January 18! During our visit to Epcot this week we spotted the booths in the process of changing over from the Festival of the Holidays to the Festival of the Arts, as well as other sure signs a new Festival is about to begin! Festival of the Arts Opens January 18! We are getting excited, and our bags are packed as we prepare to be there on opening day to provide you with photos of all of the food, drinks, activities, merchandise — and of course the Best of the Fest! The excitement is brewing! Ballast Point, a pioneer in the California craft brewer scene, is putting the finishing touches on its first Orange County location in the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort! We visited the experts at Ballast Point in their San Diego headquarters to learn more about the art and science behind their brewery, their culture of quality, innovation and their love of the sea. Then, we were granted a sneak peek of the new Downtown Disney District location, featuring distinctive dining and bar spaces, with clever nautical details at every turn. This family-friendly eatery houses 4,000 square feet of restaurant and bar space, in addition to 3,000 square feet of outdoor dining. The rooftop features festive lighting and cabana-style seating, all with fantastic views of the Downtown Disney District. Ballast Point will offer more than 50 styles of its adventurous beers across 100 taps and is creating specialty brews which will be exclusive to the Downtown Disney District. Ooh, we love a burger and fries from D-Luxe Burger in Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs, and now the casual dining spot has added two limited time menu items! D-Luxe and That Gorgeous Florida Sky The Caribbean Burger is a patty made with D-Luxe’s signature blend of meats, Chayote Slaw, Scotch Bonnet Pepper Aioli (!!), Fried Plantain, Lettuce, and Tomato. We’re loving the idea of spice from the Scotch Bonnet Pepper Aioli, and we’re intrigued by the plantain. Limited Time Offerings The second item are deep-fried plantains commonly known as Tostones! These will be a fun alternative to fries! Note that tostones are not currently showing on the mobile order menu, just on the menu on the Disney World website. We’ll see if they stick around! Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom is a guest favorite. It’s here you’ll find burgers, chicken, and the occasional limited time offering (like these funky Galaxy Fries and the lauded Pork Belly Burger)! But the popular quick service spot is currently undergoing a refurbishment — partially. At present, construction walls are up around Bay 2, where you’d typically find a selection of burgers, sandwiches, and salads. The walls extend through the central seating area (the largest section of seating in the restaurant), including around the stage where diners would normally spot Sonny Eclipse. Cosmic Ray’s Refurbishment Here’s another look from Bay 1 looking toward Bay 2. Note that both toppings bars are still accessible, but you can’t get through Bay 2 to move from Bay 1 to Bay 3. Cosmic Ray’s Refurbishment Bay 2 and the central seating area are visible through the windows, and our Disney pal Daniel Wanderman (@wanderdisney) took a peek for us. Sonny has been removed from his stage, but we’re assured he’ll be returning. It’s been a busy week over in Hollywood Studios! We’ve rounded up all the updates for you — new eats, new merchandise and LOTS of construction. Hello from Hollywood Studios! We don’t expect to see these Christmas decorations up much longer! They have been busy in the last few days in the park with lots of new updates, starting with the Skyliner station! Skyliner Construction Updates Disney’s Skyliner Gondola System is really making progress and we can’t wait to see this new mode of transportation open in the fall of this year. Noticeable updates this week include some more red elements along the top of the station. Skyliner Construction What’s New on Hollywood Studios Sunset Boulevard Sunshine Day Bar, the seasonal counter service location that replaced Toluca Turkey Legs, Co. and subsequently Sunshine Day Cafe, re-opened this Holiday season with a new name and a festive menu. Sunshine Day Bar With the holidays now over, we went to check out the menu updates. Sunshine Day Bar Menu Christmas drinks have been swapped out in favor of lighter, fruitier beverages like the Cherry Blossom, with Bacardi Superior Rum and Luxardo Cherry Liqueur with pineapple juice and grenadine. Cherry Blossom Cocktail The Southside Fizz is made with Hendrick’s Gin and pure cane sugar. Southside Fizz Cocktails The Blackberry Moonshine Lemonade features Old Smoky Blackberry Moonshine. Over at Catalina Eddie’s, the Seasonal Eggnog Panna Cotta and Chocolate Mousse have been removed and you’ll now find a new Lemon Cheesecake Verrine. What’s New on Hollywood Studios Hollywood Boulevard Cupcakes are noticeably missing over at the Trolley Car Cafe. Trolley Car Cafe Bakery Case Currently the only cupcake available is the Peanut Butter Crunch Cupcake — but, hey, we’re not complaining; there’s a reason we’ve loved this one for years and featured it in last year’s cupcake challenge! Chocolate Peanut Butter Crunch Cupcake What’s New in Hollywood Studios Toy Story Land Last week, we noticed the Buzz Meet and Greet had changed locations. His Meet and Greet was moved closer to the entrance into Toy Story Land, but this was to avoid the Slinky Dog Dash line during peak crowd days in the parks. Buzz has moved back to his original spot past the entrance sign. Toy Story Land Buzz Meet and Greet We also took a peek over the fence in Toy Story Land to see how Star Wars – Galaxy’s Edge is coming along. There’s still plenty of scaffolding up, but things are really starting to come together over there on Batuu. Galaxy’s Edge Construction What’s New on Hollywood Studios Grand Avenue We also got a much better view of this building that’s being constructed adjacent to Tatooine Traders. Grand Avenue Structure We had scoped this spot out just last week, but it seems progress steady progress has been made the scrims are down, revealing a green tile roof and a rather simple design. What’s New in Hollywood Studios Shops and Stores — New Merchandise We found the CUTEST new bags in Hollywood Studios this week! Loungefly Disney Snacks Backpack The new Loungefly bags and wallets are covered with all of our favorite Disney snacks, including Mickey Pretzels, Mickey Shaped Cookies, the Mickey Ice Cream Bar (coming soon to grocery stores!), and more! Loungefly Disney Snacks Wallet/Clutch We’ve also spotted Buzz Lightyear Ears at several merchandise locations around Hollywood Studios. This tribute to everyone’s favorite space ranger features his famous catch phrase emblazoned on the headband — “To Infinity and beyond!” Buzz Lightyear Ears Polka dot prints are in with the new merchandise line — Rock the Dots — celebrating Minnie’s classic dots!
