Though the holiday crowds will soon wind down, we were able to check out a new — and possibly temporary — oasis today at Upcountry Landing in Animal Kingdom’s Asia. Adult Beverages!” Bar sign at Upcountry Landing Bar at Upcountry Landing Those offerings can be seen in detail on the menu, which features Maduro Brown Ale and Tiger Beer Asian Lager among the beers, and “Jolly Lemonade” (Monin Lychee and Raspberry with lemonade and Parrot Bay Rum) as the aforementioned adult beverage. More tables in the area More tables in the area So the Stroller Parking, which took residency here for a short time, is now by the recently added stage in the area. New Stroller Parking Nearby In speaking with a Cast Member, it’s likely that this is a temporary spot, though they weren’t able to say for certain. But it’s a really enjoyable and quiet area offering lovely views, so we hope it sticks around as an option, or at least comes back during future busy seasons! Bar at Upcountry Landing And since this Upcountry Landing Bar does have nice proximity to the new stage, there may be even more reason to add this as more than a temporary option. We shall see! Caw! Caw! Roar! Greetings, fellow Wilderness Explorers. I’m writing with news from a recent expedition to South America. We’ve been tracking the large and exotic bird known as “Kevin” – you might remember her from the Disney•Pixar film “Up!” – and she appears to be migrating north from Paradise Falls, headed in the direction of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Experts anticipate Kevin will arrive at the park sometime next month. Senior Wilderness Explorer Russell and his furry friend Dug are also at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, greeting guests and discovering various species of birds from around the world in the show “UP! A Great Bird Adventure.” You can visit them daily on Discovery Island and catch their show at the Anandapur Theatre. So be on the lookout for Kevin. A sneak peek of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has been provided by Barron’s who spent some time touring the construction site for the upcoming land in Disneyland accompanied by executives from construction, operations, and Disney Imagineering. And they have shared some details from their visit! ©Disney from @DisneyParks on Twitter To begin, Barron’s shared that guests will enter Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland through one of three entrance points near Fantasyland, Frontierland, and Critter Country. “Short, enclosed passageways between lands are designed to compress and then expand the view of visitors, like a movie fading out and then back in, to ensure that the first sight of Galaxy’s Edge is a carefully framed, cinematic view.” Inspiration for the design of Black Spire Outpost on the planet of Batuu comes from Imagineers’ trips to Morocco and Instanbul, and “building exteriors in Galaxy’s Edge are designed to look weathered from the first day of completion.” Black Spires Outpost on Batuu ©Disney/Lucasfilm In that same vein, “Visitors will see distant, petrified tree forms that were designed using trees in Southern California for inspiration.” Barron’s also shared that Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland will open “perhaps by early June,” and that all major structures are in place in Disneyland. Oga’s Cantina We’re all excited to have a drink in the Cantina! And Barron’s has shared that because Oga’s Cantina is a small location in keeping with theme and story, most guests will be standing to take in the atmosphere of what has previously been confirmed as the first restaurant to serve alcohol in Disneyland (though there will be a few booths). Oga’s Cantina Concept Art ©Disney In regards to beverages, Barron’s states: “We heard a mention of a Fuzzy Tauntaun, named for the furry snow lizards ridden in Empire Strikes Back, although it’s unclear if that’s a hypothetical drink or a planned one, and the menu is still being decided.” Blue Milk Blue Milk will be available to order somewhere in Galaxy’s Edge (perhaps in the marketplace or in Oga’s Cantina); and, in fact, Barron’s has shared that it will be nondairy. “It’s possible it will be sold by or near a bantha farmer, suggesting the marketplace.” Attractions Additional details shared regarding the attraction Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run include the story that ” Hondo Ohnaka, a pirate, has cut a deal with Chewbacca for the use of the Millennium Falcon.” Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run Flights for each visit will differ, and guests will see “real-time results of their actions, such as knocking over a spire during takeoff. The flight will be different each visit. After a ride, the visitor might, say, stop at Oga’s for a drink and be told something like, ‘The boss isn’t happy about how you brought the ship back.’ “ And here’s something super cool that Barron’s shared about the second attraction, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Star Wars Rise of the Resistance In regards to the AT-AT Walkers guests will see in line, they report that “Up close, these towering metal beasts do not disappoint.” The queue will include interiors of room that “the Resistance has repurposed as a base for operations against the First Order. Groups of guests might be “captured” at one point and ordered along by the enemy, before making their escape aboard a trackless troop transport.” Merchandise Locations Barron’s also shared information regarding merchandise locations which will include a shop presided over by Dok-Ondar, whom Cast Members may be able to interact with. The outdoor market will also resemble an bazaar, and a “pod-racing engine, perhaps at the market, will be used to roast meat.” And one shop will feature customizable droids. Dok-Ondar The piece by Barron’s also states that “For Galaxy’s Edge, Imagineers have worked with filmmakers, chefs, and merchandise executives to take adherence to storytelling to new levels for a Disney park attraction.” And let’s face it: THAT’S saying something! I think for me, the amphicar tour wouldn’t be worth the $100-$125 to take again. It’s a fun novelty, but I’d say the price would have to come down significantly — or you’d need to share the cost with another person — to make it anywhere close to worth the price. Disney’s Hollywood Studios has added a new spot where you can grab a cold drink. Market Stand The area just outside the entrance to Toy Story Land and right near Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream now houses a stand with a sign declaring it as the Market. Market Stand Though you’ll find Mickey Pretzels and Churros on the menu, a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages make up the bulk of the offerings.Alcoholic selections include a Frozen Margarita and Pina Colada, Wild Strawberry Lemonade with Tito’s Handmade Vodka, and Tropical Fruit Punch with Bacardi Superior Rum. Beer choices are Corona Light Draft, Yuengling, and Bud Light. Market Menu The non-alcoholic selections come from the options above — simply without the alcohol. You’ll find Wild Strawberry Lemonade, Tropical Fruit Punch, and a Frozen Non-Alcoholic Pina Colada up for grabs. DFB’s Disneyland correspondent Heather (catch her adventures @DiningInDisney!) occasionally becomes our international Disney Parks correspondent, and on her recent trip to Tokyo Disneyland she really… nailed it. Tokyo Disney Nail Designs Yup, we mean that literally. Heather (and her travel buds!) made an appointment at Cocette in Harajuku for the ultimate Disney nail art! It features classic foods of Tokyo Disney, and it’s be-YOND awesome. Tokyo Disney Nails And what’s a Disney-loving crew of perfectly manicured foodies going to do next? Tokyo Disney nails crew! Get pictures of your nails with alllllll the Disney eats! (These are some women after our own hearts!) Let’s start with the Mickey Waffle, which is golden brown and smiley just as we expect. Mickey Waffle nails! Then Mickey and Minnie Ice Pops, one in Raspberry-Peach and one in Tropical! Minnie Ice Pop Mickey Ice Pop This Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich looks a little different from the stateside Disney Parks, but there’s a Disney food nail for that! Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich The Mickey Cupcake comes with chocolate chip cookie ears — yum!! — and a sweet swirl of pink frosting! Mickey Cupcake Savory classics include the Mickey Burger, which is delightfully Mickey-shaped! (Check out the detail on this nail! Holy nail polish, Batman!) Mickey Burger And the Chandu Bun is represented a few different ways. How the nail artists achieved this likeness in nail polish is a mystery to us. But we can’t get enough of it! Chandu Bun Sigh.
