  9. BOY oh boy … what an exciting week! By now, you have probably “herd” the news out of Disney’s Animal Kingdom about the arrival of a new Masai giraffe calf who was born on the Kilimanjaro Safari savanna on Monday. Guests who were on the attraction that morning got to experience the wonder of nature firsthand and see some of the special moments leading up to the calf’s delivery. What better way to inspire our guests and cast than the magic of nature and the miracle of birth! We’ve been keeping a close eye on Mom and baby, who are doing well. Since birth, the pair have been backstage nursing and bonding and will continue to stay backstage for the next month or two before going back out on the savanna. Our animal care team has been conducting neonatal exams during which they get a better gauge on the calf’s weight, height and gender. We’re excited to share two photos – one of mom and baby boy within an hour after the birth and a close up of the calf in which you’ll see he has a special heart-shaped mark on his neck. Our cast and Kilimanjaro Safaris drivers will be helping us choose a name for the calf so stay tuned for updates. View the full article

The essence of an Alaskan Disney cruise is encapsulated in the exceptional combination of taking the magic of Disney off the ship into native Alaska while also bringing the spirit of Alaska back onboard. In this way, Disney takes the natural allure of Alaska and tailors it to create a family-friendly destination that all guests can cherish. One-of-a-Kind Port Adventures During Alaska sailings, guests can experience the beauty of Alaska in a way that only Disney can provide with exclusive Port Adventures designed to bring local culture and customs to life while making the most of their time ashore. Disney Cruise Line works with local tour operators to highlight each port of call and create hassle-free, interactive adventures for families. Many tours include distinctly Disney touches, beloved characters and rich storytelling to help bring local culture and customs to life. Signature Collection tours range from deluxe experiences in intimate, upscale settings to customized tours that are enhanced with experiences exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests. Highlights include: In Skagway, guests can explore the Liarsville Gold Rush Trail, a camp nestled beside a waterfall where live music, puppetry and panning for gold with classic Disney characters allow guests to be part of the epic gold rush era. In Juneau, only Disney Cruise Line guests get to live the life of an Iditarod champion during the Glacier Dog Musher for a DayPort Adventure. Guests are transported by helicopter over the massive Juneau Icefield to one of the region’s most breathtaking glaciers. Guests then help feed and harness the dogs before embarking on an unforgettable day of mushing across the pristine snow-capped glacier. While visiting Ketchikan, guests can look on as professional fishermen haul in the catch of the day in 700-pound king crab pots during the Bering Sea Crab Fisherman’s Tour. After a behind-the-scenes tour of the ship, Disney Cruise Line guests have an exclusive opportunity to dine with the crew and listen to telling stories about life on the Bering Sea over freshly caught King crab and Dungeness crab. Several Ketchikan excursions include a visit to the Exclusive Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show, a rollicking competition created for families that features some of the world’s top timber sport athletes going head-to-head for bragging rights and the title, “Bull of the Woods.” This enhanced performance features additional elements and segments developed exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests. While every port offers excursions for families to enjoy together, many tours integrate separate activities for children and adults. While kids are engaged in age-appropriate activities with youth counselors from the ship, parents have time on their own. Bringing the Spirit of Alaska Onboard Back onboard, themed entertainment and authentic experiences uniquely blend the spirit of Alaska with the magic of Disney. All itineraries include either one or two full days at sea, allowing for the chance to experience the unique Alaskan touches onboard. A standout moment that epitomizes the authentic Alaskan experience for guests features the breathtaking beauty of the Tracy Arm Fjord. Here, guests discover a region known for towering waterfalls, mammoth glaciers, rugged mountains and wildlife on a scenic venture that brings them as close as possible to the unparalleled beauty of Alaska’s nature. In a fun Disney Cruise Line tradition, the famous Disney characters meet and greet guests in some of their best northern-themed finery during Alaska sailings. Mickey is decked out in Alaskan fisherman’s gear, Minnie dons a stylish parka, Goofy is ready to explore a glacier and Donald is dressed to pan for gold—everyone gets in on the Alaska fun. Guests also have the opportunity to attend special presentations from expert naturalists who provide insight into the southeastern Alaska region and share personal stories of life in The Last Frontier. Exclusive food and beverage offerings during Alaska itineraries include a “Regional Inspiration” dish on the dinner menu each night, cooking demonstrations that teach guests to prepare local dishes and specialty Alaska-themed drinks. 16. Growing up, one of the coolest things about Disney•Pixar’s “Toy Story” was Andy’s unbelievable backyard. I mean, that kid had everything! If you’re like me, you wanted to experience all of Andy’s toys – and now, with the new Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you can do just that. You and your friends can feed your craving for nostalgia by entering this new land, where Andy’s toys are larger than life. Zip across the backyard on Slinky Dog Dash – the first roller coaster at Walt Disney World Resort to feature TWO launches! – or take a spin on the Alien Swirling Saucers. And if a little friendly competition is more of your squad’s style, there is always the classic, Toy Story Mania. A visit to Toy Story Land would not be complete without sampling some delicious sips and snacks at Woody’s Lunch Box. With options ranging from chocolate-hazelnut lunch box tarts to bbq brisket melts to “totchos” – think nachos, but with tater tots! – there are so many great bites to power you for more play time in Andy’s backyard. In the daytime it’s magical already, but under the lights at night, Toy Story Land is an even better experience. And with so many little accents such as popsicle-stick benches, life-size toys and a giant Pixar ball, there are dozens of great photo ops throughout the land. Be sure to grab a Little Green Alien or Slinky Dog headband to complete your “Toy Story” look! Toy Story Land is a must-do as part of your Walt Disney World vacation, and the kid in you will be so happy you did! View the full article
  17. In our Disney Doodle series, different Disney artists take turns imagining what different Disney characters would do or see first if they had the chance to visit a Disney Park. In today’s Doodle, artist Ashley Taylor imagines what Hercules and Meg would do if they could visit Magic Kingdom Park. In the 1997 film “Hercules,” the title character learns what it takes to really become a hero. So it’s only natural that the duo would seek out tests of their inner strength, right? Maybe testing their bravery at one of the park’s spookiest attractions. “Both Meg and Hercules are heroes in their own right,” Ashley said. “It’s easy to imagine them testing out their bravery on the Haunted Mansion!” View the full article

  21. We are celebrating the grand opening of Ballast Point Brewing Company! Today, the popular San Diego-based craft brewer officially opened the first-ever brewery in the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort. The upper story 7,000-sq. ft. restaurant and bar offers several unique seating areas, including an open-air bar and expansive outdoor patio, all with views of the Downtown Disney District. Check out our first look video here! World-Class Beer: Ballast Point Brewing Company brings more than 50 high quality, innovative beers across 100 taps. Their on-site three-barrel brewing system is ideal for creating limited-edition brews exclusive to the Downtown Disney District, along with Ballast Point favorites: the flagship Sculpin IPA, Fathom IPA and Victory at Sea. From grain to glass, Ballast Point Brewing Company is dedicated to the craft of its production, from selecting raw materials to the brewing process, which includes 300-plus quality testing touch points. Brewpub-Style Dishes: The whole family is sure to enjoy Ballast Point Brewing Company’s creative and fun brewpub-style menu, offering plates to share, salads and flatbreads, sandwiches, burgers and desserts, with gluten free and vegetarian options. A few favorites to note are the soyrizo and roasted cauliflower tacos, duck confit nachos, glazed pork belly appetizer, “Black Marlin” BBQ flatbread and “Victory at Sea” s’mores. Little ones will love the kids’ menu choices of crispy chicken tenders, corn tortilla quesadilla and grilled cheese. Ballast Point will donate $1 for every kids meal ordered at the Downtown Disney District to No Kid Hungry, a national organization providing children with nutritious food options. Nautical Vibes: Décor is inspired by a love of the sea and the nod to the nautical is cleverly apparent in the restaurant’s design. The logo graphic of the sextant “anchors” the look — being a navigational tool that measures the longitude, latitude and altitudes with the sun, moon and stars — is Ballast Point’s “reminder to keep on the journey to seek out new ideas and new flavors.” The main bar wall is inspired by the hull of a ship. In the entry, the beer bottle chandelier is a signature piece, and the wall of tap handles illustrate many of Ballast’s inventive brews. A black and white bistro wall of sketches from Ballast Point’s resident artist Paul Elders illustrate labels of notable beers over the years, from haunting seaworthy skeletons to a mystical octopus. Take a bit of Ballast Point home with you! Men’s and women’s apparel, accessories and novelties featuring Ballast Point artwork are available in the restaurant’s merchandise section. The opening of Ballast Point is the latest in an exciting line-up of newly unveiled restaurants, shops and entertainment venues in the Downtown Disney District. This includes the reimagined World of Disney, Salt & Straw scoop shop, the re-designed Wetzel’s Pretzels, renovated Naples Ristorante e Bar and Napolini Pizzeria, with Black Tap Craft Burgers & Shakes coming soon! 22. Ever since Epcot’s Kringla Bakeri og Kafe reopened in August 2018, we’ve been keeping an eye on the pastry case to see what old favorites returned and what new treats await. Just a few days ago, we told you that Troll Horns (finally!) made a comeback! And just yesterday we let you know about the Troll Kreme Spiked Slush that’s perfect for fortifying the spirit before jumping in line for Frozen Ever After. Kringla Bakeri og Kafe And now we’re bringing you a sweet treat that’s reindeer approved (because, after all, reindeer are better than people). It’s Sven’s Apple Cheesecake, and it’s lovely in its simplicity. Sven’s Apple Cheesecake This is a dome of cheesecake filled with spiced apples, coated in pourable fondant, and placed atop a shortbread round. Sven’s Apple Cheesecake We love that vibrant green color — and we can see why Sven likes it, too. The little stem of chocolate makes this one look delightfully similar to every reindeer’s favorite fruit. Sven’s Apple Cheesecake The exterior is relatively smooth, and the fondant covering is basically tasteless. That’s okay — because the interior is packed with flavor! Sven’s Apple Cheesecake Rich cheesecake encases spicy apples, and that cheesecake is rich in both creamy texture and flavor. So much so that the apples play (a happy) second fiddle. But we’re not complaining because it all works! Sven’s Apple Cheesecake Sven obviously has good taste, because his Apple Cheesecake totally rocks! Try this the next time you’re visiting Epcot’s Norway! What’s your favorite Kringla Bakeri og Kafe treat? Tell us in the comments! 23. We are so excited that the third annual Epcot Festival of the Arts kicks off this Friday! From January 18 – February 25, 2019 the Festival of the Arts will celebrate the Culinary, Visual, and Performance Arts in various ways throughout the park! Painting by Artist Trevor Carlton Today we attended a Preview Event to get a sneak peek (and even some sneak tastes) of what the Festival has in store. Festival of the Arts starts this Friday! Let’s dive in! Food Studios The Festival’s Food Studios will once again provide yummy and beautiful eats to Epcot guests at Food Booths throughout the park. Festival of the Arts Culinary Food Studios Items See what I mean ? Peanut Butter and Pretzel Crunch Sketch But don’t worry! We didn’t simply look at sketches and paintings of the items we’ll all be able to enjoy once the event kicks off on Friday… Vanilla, Rose Water, and Pistachio Panna Cotta … we also got pictures of several of the actual items that all guests will be able to enjoy soon! The Masterpiece Kitchen The Masterpiece Kitchen will serve the Vanilla, Rose Water, and Pistachio Panna Cotta as painted above, and as presented here! Vanilla, Rose Water, and Pistachio Panna Cotta The pistachio comes through both in the base of the cake and the pistachio crumble. The Masterpiece Kitchen will also be serving what is a favorite meatless item for many guests (and one one of ours, too!): the delicious and creamy Wild Mushroom Risotto, Aged Parmesan, Truffle Shavings and Zinfandel Reduction. Wild Mushroom Risotto It returns for its third year. Pop Eats! Pop Eats! will serve the new non-alcoholic — and all natural — Blue Sky Black Cherry Boba Freeze. Blue Sky Black Cherry Boba Freeze A black cherry soda base is frozen then topped with the boba pearls for a fun and kid-friendly item! Decadent Delights The sweet treats at Decadent Delights will include the sweet-and-salty Chocolate, Peanut Butter and Pretzel Crunch. Beef Wellington Beef Wellington The Table will also be serving the Pan-Seared Scallop with Chorizo, Roasted Red Pepper Coulis and a Parmesan Crisp again this year. Pan-Seared Scallop And this is so fun… the Pan-Seared Scallop dish is inspired by a famous painting: The Lady in the Hat, with the coulis representing her dress, and the parmesan crisp and flower creates her hat. But we’re pretty sure that the super fun Chocolate and Beer Pairing served here is going to be among the biggest hits at the Festival! Chocolate and Beer Pairing Featured brews at this booth will include Saugatuck Brewing Co. Neapolitan Milk Stout (paired with strawberry white chocolate), Lexington Brewing Company Kentucky Vanilla Barrel Cream Ale (paired with honey chocolate), and Lindemans Framboise Lambic (paired with black currant and violet chocolate). The Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticell Photo Op Interactive Paint by Numbers Wall Murals will return with four different scenes. Paint By Number Mural sign It takes about 2 days for guests to complete a mural… all by painting in one number at a time!
