Every day, the opening of Jaleo in Disney Springs gets closer! The upcoming — and highly anticipated — restaurant by Chef José Andrés is no longer hidden behind construction walls. Jaleo In fact, the location (you can read about its interesting and unique design here) is now only blocked by planters. Jaleo A few weeks ago, we found via the Jaleo website that an opening of the location was set to take place this month. And today we were informed that the restaurant should open next week! Are you hoping to catch the new live-action Dumbo film when it comes to theaters later this month? Dumbo’s Magic Feather Brownie They’re already gearing up for the film’s release in Magic Kingdom, and this is especially the case in Storybook Circus. Storybook Circus Popcorn Cart That’s where Dumbo’s Magic Feather Brownie can currently be found at the Storybook Circus Popcorn Cart right near the Dumbo the Flying Elephant attraction! Dumbo’s Magic Feather Brownie This peanut butter-swirled brownie is topped with chocolate ganache, roasted peanuts, and a white chocolate feather. (Our feather was broken when we received it, but we pressed on !) Dumbo’s Magic Feather Brownie There are only a couple of actual roasted peanuts topping the treat. The shelled “peanut” you see is made up of creamy peanut butter. Dumbo’s Magic Feather Brownie And there’s more where that came from once you tuck inside the brownie. The peanut butter flavor wasn’t as pronounced as we expected, what with all the thick ganache and pleasantly soft brownie delivering plenty of chocolate fudge flavor. Dumbo’s Magic Feather Brownie This treat is indeed tasty. In fact, the only way this could be improved is if it were served warm. Logistically that wouldn’t work with the cold chocolate feather topper and maybe even due to the fact that it’s sold from a popcorn cart as opposed to a regular counter service location. But if this were to be added as a regular item — say, in Big Top Treats, perhaps? — serving it warm would definitely make this one a must-get! Dumbo’s Magic Feather Brownie For now, it’s still a fun, tasty find for fans of Dumbo, and we’ll be curious to see if it sticks around beyond the film’s release! Don’t Miss Out on Any Disney Fun! No matter how many times you’ve been to Walt Disney World, there’s always a sense of wonder and “how do they do that?” What if you could learn some of Disney’s secrets into how they create and maintain the rides, costumes and buildings? Disney World’s Backstage Magic Tour Review The Backstage Magic Tour is a 7-hour walking exploration of select locations in Epcot, Central Shops, Costuming, Wilderness Lodge, and the Utilidors under the Magic Kingdom. If you’ve never been “backstage” at Walt Disney World, just getting to the first stop will be an eye opener. You’ll get a glimpse at areas where guests can’t normally go as you are transported in a private motor coach along a perimeter road that runs behind Epcot’s attractions. (Spoiler alert – the Eiffel Tower in France is much smaller than it looks from “on-stage”.) Let’s check out the tour! Epcot’s American Adventure Pavilion At this first stop on the tour, you will learn some interesting history of the location and design of the American Adventure. The Imagineers stayed true to Colonial American architecture when structures were limited to three stories. The pavilion building is actually five stories high, but forced perspective is used to make it look shorter. American Adventure Pavilion ©Disney The tour unlocks the secrets behind the technology that brings the Audio-Animatronics in the American Adventure to life. Audience Guests are unaware that under their seats, there is a track system that carries a series of tableaus on wheels that tell the story of America. Ben Franklin, Mark Twain, George Washington and other great Americans are in period costume and posed on moveable platforms that raise and lower each scene to the stage at the perfect time in the show. Creative Costuming Imagine a giant warehouse filled with a rainbow of threads, fabric, buttons, trimmings and ribbons. This is where a creative team designs the costumes for Disney Characters, performers, entertainers, bell hops, merchandisers, and even the parking lot attendants. Creative Costuming ©Disney Your Backstage Magic tour guides explain the process and technology that Disney utilizes to use wardrobe to tell a story and dress their 50,000+ Cast Members. Textiles Services Disney even manages to make washing, drying and folding linens fascinating. At a whopping 250,000 square feet, the Textiles warehouse is the place where ALL of the laundry is done. Duffle bags filled with used sheets or towels – and weighing 150 pounds – hang from the ceiling as they wind along a 3-mile-long track and stop to drop their bundle into an available washing machine. NOTE: After June 1, 2019, this stop of the tour will be replaced with a visit to behind the scenes at Rivers of Light in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Lunch at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge After a morning filled with facts, secrets, and more than 10,000 steps, you’ll be eager to sit at the Whispering Canyon Café and feast on an All-You-Care-To-Enjoy Skillet of fresh-baked Cornbread, Slow-smoked Pork Ribs, Barbecued Pulled Pork, Citrus Herb Chicken, Western-style Sausage, Mashed Yukon Potatoes, Buttered Corn, and Cowboy-style Baked Beans. Leave room for the Strawberry Cobbler for dessert! Whispering Canyon Cafe at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge NOTE: After June 1, lunch will be served at Tiffins in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. After lunch the tour continues with the next stop. Central Shops This is where the Magic is built. Know as the “Can Do People” the cast members in this massive facility create, rejuvenate and repair everything from the trash cans to ride vehicles to Audio-Animatronics. Central Shops ©Disney Each day, they can have more than 3,000 work orders in house. You never know what you might see when you visit. It could be a carousel horse being sanded and repainted, a test track vehicle taken apart or a Tiki Room bird in need of new feathers. The Utilidors Legend has it that as Walt Disney was strolling through Tomorrowland in Disneyland, he crossed paths with a Cast Member dressed like a Cowboy from Frontierland. Immediately, the Magic was broken. Walt vowed not to let this happen when they built Walt Disney World in Florida. To solve that problem, the Magic Kingdom was built above a series of tunnels known as the Utilidors. Cast Members Only sign ©Disney On the Backstage Magic Tour, you’ll venture down into those secret tunnels and see busy Cast Members on their way to work. They’re walking, riding bikes, or driving golf carts as they transport merchandise or food to various locations. Getting around is easy because the walls are color coded to let you know what land you are under and pictures show which ride or store that each staircase or elevator will bring you to in the Magic Kingdom. During your tour, you’ll see offices, a “Mouseketeria,” lockers, and display cases with inspirational messages and stories. It is the grand finale of the day! It’s always hard to pick a favorite store at Disney Springs, but I can say Anthropologie has always been in my top 10. The location at Disney Springs is one of our four anchors and filled with two floors brimming with home décor, (those Capri Blue candles are my favorite!) unique gifts and an absolutely beautiful and trendy collection of clothing. If you walk in the store right now, spring is in full bloom. I’m talking pretty shades of pastels and floral patterns for days— perfect for upcoming Easter get-togethers or a casual brunch with family and friends. I’m always impressed by how flattering and comfortable their clothing is and I’m excited to share that the collection is soon to be expanded! Ok, so… the new Chocolate Donut Holes at Isle of Java in Disney’s Animal Kingdom may not sound as interesting as the Apple Cider Donut Holes which these have replaced. Chocolate Donut Holes sign But wait until you see them! Chocolate Donut Holes The three Chocolate Donut Holes are rolled in sugar and spice, then fried. But the finishing touch of chocolate-orange glaze is MUCH more impressive in person than as it appears pictured on the sign. Chocolate Donut Holes These rich donut holes are positively poured over and oozing with rich, almost fudge-like chocolate sauce. Good thing these are served on a stick! Chocolate Donut Holes The “orange” part of the glaze comes through more in the fragrance than the flavor, but there is a nice little hint of it. Seriously, chocoholics, give these a try if you find yourself on Discovery Island in Animal Kingdom anytime soon! BoardWalk Bakery at BoardWalk Inn and Villas is always ready with a seasonal cupcake, and right now they’re got a playful option that’s all dressed up for St. Patrick’s Day! St. Patrick’s Day Cupcake The St. Patrick’s Day Cupcake is chocolate cake, whipped vanilla buttercream, and a fun Oreo that’s been dipped halfway in green. The Oreo is decorated with a pair of gold-painted chocolate discs for Mickey ears and a yellow belt buckle. St. Patrick’s Day Cupcake The cake to frosting ratio is pretty amazing here, with about equal amounts of each. Seriously: that’s a mountain of frosting! It’s decorated with a few yellow pearls and lots of milk chocolate curls. (Check that condensation! Thanks, Florida heat!) St. Patrick’s Day Cupcake A cross-section shows a bit of cake propping up all that frosting and a sticky vanilla custard filling. Over the weekend, Disneyland park guests were in for an awesome surprise when Tim Burton stopped by the Main Street Opera House during a sneak peek of Disney’s all-new grand live-action adventure “Dumbo,” in theaters March 29. Tim’s visit included a surprise welcome at the sneak peek with a poster giveaway to lucky guests and a special visit to Dumbo the Flying Elephant in Fantasyland! The sneak peek is also available aboard the ships of Disney Cruise Line and in the Walt Disney Presents attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida. From Disney and visionary director Tim Burton, the grand live-action adventure “Dumbo” expands on the beloved classic story where differences are celebrated, family is cherished and dreams take flight. Circus owner Max Medici (Danny DeVito) enlists former star Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his children Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finley Hobbins) to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when they discover that Dumbo can fly, the circus makes an incredible comeback, attracting persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton), who recruits the peculiar pachyderm for his newest, larger-than-life entertainment venture, Dreamland. Dumbo soars to new heights alongside a charming and spectacular aerial artist, Colette Marchant (Eva Green), until Holt learns that beneath its shiny veneer, Dreamland is full of dark secrets. Captain Marvel is saving the day at theaters everywhere, and you know what that means: character themed snacks! This time we’ve found three tasty Captain Marvel-inspired treats at Studio Catering Company, the food truck that keeps guests fueled up in Disney California Adventure Park! Captain Marvel! Captain Marvel has inspired the Nacho Average Super Hero plant-based nachos, Captain Marvel Slush, and Captain Marvel Ice Cream Sandwich. Talk about some super eats! Captain Marvel Menu Items The Nacho Average Super Hero is a plate of nachos that uses plant-based “meat”, thousand island dressing, lettuce, cheese sauce, pickles, onions, and sesame seeds atop blue and red corn tortilla chips. Yup: it’s a cheeseburger/nacho mash-up! Nacho Average Super Hero All of the components on the Nacho Average Super Hero are fresh and passable, but somehow this didn’t work as a whole for our taste-testers. It wasn’t hearty, despite the “meat” crumbles. And when we got to the bottom of the boat, there was a lot of liquid — water leeched from a few of the ingredients. Overall, we weren’t impressed, and at $9.99, we won’t be getting these again. Nacho Average Super Hero The Captain Marvel Slush is a black cherry slush with strawberry drizzle, blue whipped cream, and gold sugar sprinkles. Despite the vibrant blue color, the whipped cream just tasted like whipped cream, but combined with the slush, it was a good balance of sweet and tart. Captain Marvel Slush This is super refreshing and fruity — perfect for a hot day. It’s $5.49, and we’ll get another of these when we need a tasty way to cool off. Captain Marvel Slush The Captain Marvel Ice Cream Sandwich was our favorite treat of the three! This is a sandwich comprised of red and blue cake rounds (think: whoopie pie!) and a big scoop of red, blue, and yellow-tinted vanilla ice cream. The white chocolate medallion on top features the Captain Marvel insignia. Captain Marvel Ice Cream Sandwich The simple flavors are really enjoyable in this colorful treat, and maybe it’s that old expression “we eat with our eyes”, but we love this one! It’s a little messy to pick up and eat, though, so grab some utensils and napkins. At $5.49, it’s a good treat to share (and we will… again and again!). Epcot is in the middle of a multi-year transformation. The transformation includes new rides, a Play Pavilion, re-imagined park entrance, new restaurants, and a new nighttime spectacular. Our latest visit to Epcot included catching up on the progress of all of this construction. World Showcase Lagoon Construction for New Nighttime Spectacular We started our visit out in Future World and checking on the progress of the Guardians of the Galaxy ride. What’s New in Epcot’s Future World The new Guardians of the Galaxy ride will open in 2021. The ride will be in a new ride building, and use the former Universe of Energy building as the queue area. Guardians of the Galaxy Construction Guardians of the Galaxy Construction A new space-themed restaurant will open between Test Track and Mission: Space in 2020. France Pavilion Construction At the International Gateway entrance between the France and UK pavilions you can catch a peek at Epcot’s Skyliner Station. This is a yellow cupcake with a cookies and cream filling topped off with festive purple decorations.
