Only a few feet away from the road, a giraffe named Mara was giving birth. Zimmerman shot out facts (Did you know a giraffe’s tongue is 18 inches long?)... View the full article

Completing the 48.6-mile Dopey Challenge during Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend would have been impressive enough in its own right, but Ron Wertley, from Tampa, Fla., took things to another level. That’s because he took on the challenge of running the 5K, 10K, half marathon and full marathon in successive days while undergoing chemotherapy treatments for cancer. Ron was first diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow, and given a 40-percent survival chance just after he completed the Dopey Challenge in 2018. Determined to keep his “perfect” status (he has run in every Dopey Challenge with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training and raised more than $22,000 to help support lifesaving research, patient support and education, and advocacy efforts that benefit blood cancer patients since 2014!), Ron continued to train for this year’s challenge while going through chemo. Nearly a year of aggressive chemo treatments sent the cancer into remission, but December brought news that the cancer had returned, and with it comes a 30-day stint in the hospital and an aggressive chemo regimen to combat the disease again. But with the support of his 420 LLS Team In Training teammates, Ron completed his sixth Dopey Challenge, which is a testament to his fortitude, determination and grit. Check out this video for more of Ron’s inspiring journey: Do you have an inspiring runDisney story? Share it with us! Please send an email with the details of your story to WDPR.DisneySportsStories@disney.com. And there’s still time to be a part of the next runDisney race weekend at Walt Disney World Resort! You know how we at the DFB feel about poutine. We love it so much we created a poutine crawl last year. We visit The Daily Poutine in Disney Springs often to sample their limited time offerings. And if we spot poutine on a menu, we pretty much can’t help ourselves. So secret menu poutine at Le Cellier? Yeah, we gotta tell you about this one! Le Cellier Steakhouse It’s called Annual Passholder Poutine — but you don’t need to have an Annual Pass to get it! Here’s the deal: if you are an AP and make an Advance Dining Reservation for Le Cellier via the My Disney Experience app, you’ll get a special menu that highlights The Annual Passholder Poutine. Annual Passholder Menu with Poutine This dish is essentially the Le Cellier Signature Poutine with fries, Canadian cheddar, truffle, and red wine reduction. Signature Poutine But it’s not on the regular menu, so how do you order this deliciousness if you’re not an Annual Passholder? You just ask for it — simple as that! The trick is that it won’t be on your menu, so you’ll need to know to order. And now you know! Don’t want to miss any other Disney Parks tips? Sign up for the DFB Newsletter, and we’ll keep you connected! What’s your favorite secret menu item? Let us know in the comments! For several hours one night, every single guest in Andy’s backyard at Toy Story Land was named “Andy!” Fifty people with variations of the name Andy were invited to an after-hours “Andy Night” celebration of creativity in the new land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and we thought you’d like to see. For “Andy Night,” we searched for 50 Andys who had a flair for being imaginative and invited each to experience Andy’s creativity in Toy Story Land. The group of guests included students named Andi, a concept designer named Andrew, Internet personality, Andre Meadows, and even popular actress Andrea Barber. During the night, visiting Andys “shrank” to the size of a toy in Andy’s backyard and enjoyed Slinky Dog Dash, Alien Swirling Saucers and Toy Story Mania! before visiting with Woody and Jessie. “Thank you Mom and Dad for naming me Andy!” one Andy shared to end a magical night at Toy Story Land. The experience was part of a campaign designed to demonstrate the all-ages, multi-generational appeal of Walt Disney World Resort’s newest expansion. A branded film about the evening, captured by Grammy-nominated director Andy Hines, is launching on YouTube with support across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. A 90-second version of the film will be airing in select cinemas across the country through the month of January. View the full article

Recently D23 had the chance to sit down with not one but two of the gentlemen who plays the role of Tarzan on Broadway in Disney’s musical. And as fate would have it, both of them—Josh Strickland, who originated the role, and Kevin Massey—are performing in this year’s Disney on Broadway Concert Series during the Epcot International Festival of the Arts. When you both look back, what was your favorite part of playing Tarzan on Broadway? Josh: Mine was actually learning to fly. I think that both Kevin and I can attest that when you go into an audition and they hand you a hard hat, that is unusual. But flying was one of the most thrilling parts. Kevin: I agree. One thing I learned about myself was just getting “in” my body. Like Josh said, flying in the air is one thing, but also learning all the movement and realizing that this awkward person that I am can still get some things out of it that I didn’t think were in there! We did yoga every morning, and all of the sudden I was able to touch my toes which I was never able to do before. Talk about your upcoming shows at the Epcot International Festival of the Arts. Josh: I think is really cool to see the fans—and new fans. There are always Broadway fans, but then you get the new fans who love Disney who have never seen a Broadway show. They get to see the talent that [Disney] Theatrical has. I think that that’s one of the coolest things. Kevin: Josh and I have been able to be with it from the beginning. We feel like original cast members, and it just keeps growing and growing. One thing I’ve been impressed with is just how big the catalogue of Disney Theatrical songs is. Some of the songs we sing are only in theatrical productions not the movie versions. And every year it’s different. We’ve been back all three years, but each concert I’ve done, some part of it has been different. Josh: And since we’re not playing a character, we are just ourselves. We get to do stuff that we would never even get hired for: like, to sing “My Strongest Suit” from Aida is really cool. To read the complete interview, visit D23.com. View the full article

Mickey and Minnie’s Get Your Ears On celebration officially starts TODAY, but our intrepid Disneyland correspondent Heather (hi, @DiningInDisney!) scoured the park yesterday to try some of the treats that made an early debut. And what she found… is adorable. Minnie Mouse Cronut It’s a Minnie Mouse Cronut, and you can get yours at Schmoozies! in Disney California Advenure (along with a Mickey Mouse version that wasn’t out yet when Heather was there last night — we’ll get it for ya today)! Minnie Mouse Cronut The Minnie Mouse Cronut has its ears on — Oreo ears, to be precise! It’s further decorated with a chocolate bow, Mickey-approved sprinkles, and white polka dot candies! Minnie Mouse Cronut Inside, the Minnie Mouse Cronut is packed with tart cherry jelly! The color is perfect, the cronut is… large, and the decorations are spot-on. Cherry-Filled Minnie Mouse Cronut This cronut costs $10, but it’s big enough for at least two people to share, so the price might be marginal if you look at it that way. At any rate, we’re so thrilled to have new snacks to try — and the Minnie Mouse Cronut is just the beginning! Check out our preview of the treats coming to Disneyland’s Get Your Ears On celebration! Which of the Get Your Ears On treats would you eat first? Let us know in the comments! Related posts: Halloween Time Eats: Orange Sugar Churro with Candy Corn Dip in Disneyland!
