Most youngsters have a natural affection for four-legged creatures, both big and small. Animals are engaging, and preschoolers are fascinated by the unique sounds they make, the way they move, and their interesting expressions. You can nurture your kids’ love for animals with a visit to Disney’s Animal Kingdom where they can meet many of the adorable baby animals that have been born in the past couple of years at the park. Recently, Disney’s Animal Kingdom has welcomed three Masai giraffe calves to the savanna. Jabari made his debut just a couple of months ago, and Aella and Amira were born in 2018. Guests were also hungry to hear about Augustus, a male Nile hippopotamus, who also arrived in early 2018 – he was the first hippo born at the park in over a decade. Last year, Disney’s Animal Kingdom also welcomed a baby mandrill and an okapi, the only known relative to the giraffe and an endangered species; in late 2017, Anala and Jeda, two Sumatran Tiger Cubs made Maharajah Jungle Trek their home. These baby animals bring so much energy to the park and are sure to satisfy a preschooler’s natural curiosity. One of my job perks is getting to see Disneyland park before guests arrive. I take a long walk through the resort once a week to keep the photographic archive fresh and quietly make art. The sunrise looked beautiful over Tomorrowland Lagoon during this week’s stroll. I love when the sun bursts through tree branches and casts a golden glow on waters below. Foliage sways with the breeze and water laps to create a quiet soundtrack at The Jungle Cruise in Adventureland. Storybook Land in Fantasyland is a treasure, where you can visit miniatures of your favorite fairytale locales – from Arendelle to Agrabah. Early in the morning, when I’ve got the area to myself, I can sometimes hear “A Whole New World” quietly echoing through Monstro’s mouth. A sunburst encircles the pirate ship weathervane above Peter Pan’s Flight, also in Fantasyland. PRO TIP: Shooting into the sun can lead to some really satisfying pictures, but never actually look directly into the sun (seriously, you’ll destroy your eyes). There are a lot of methods for composing sun pictures – I usually rely on my camera’s live view feature, but sometimes, when I feel like I need to spend a little extra time composing, I’ll use a pair of welding goggles with one lens removed (protective lens for looking through the viewfinder and clear eye for making camera adjustments – no, your sunglasses are not an effective substitute). I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I do love what bottom-lit water does when you drag your camera’s shutter a bit. Slowing my exposure to 2.5 seconds made this fountain in Mickey’s Toontown look a little more magical. All systems are a go for thrills at Space Mountain in Tomorrowland as the park’s first guest of the day passes through the front gate and another picture-perfect operating day has begun. There’s peace and beauty at Disneyland park in the morning whether the sky is gloomy or bright. With spring in the air, now is the perfect time to visit! View the full article

With news dropping that Walt Disney World’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be opening sooner than expected in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney Parks fans were left wondering: How will the August 29th grand opening of Galaxy’s Edge impact Epcot’s International Food and Wine Festival, which historically begins the last week of August? Galaxy’s Edge Concept Art Click here for information about the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Will Galaxy’s Edge Impact the Epcot Food and Wine Festival Dates? Food and Wine typically opens in late-August, and crowds descend upon World Showcase immediately. In fact, opening weekend and closing weekend tend to be the busiest times for Food and Wine. With dates for Food and Wine still unannounced, it’s unclear whether the Festival will open before the gates of Black Spire Outpost in Galaxy’s Edge. Our preliminary research and hotel bookings indicate that Food and Wine will likely start no later than early September and may well begin even earlier (mid-August or the last week of August). As such, with Galaxy’s Edge set to open on August 29, we’re looking at near-simultaneous openings for Star Wars and the Epcot Food and Wine Festival. Galaxy’s Edge Marketplace Will Epcot’s Food & Wine Festival be more crowded because of Galaxy’s Edge? One of the busiest weeks at Food & Wine is the first weekend and the week that follows it, so the Festival will be crowded no matter what. But how will Galaxy’s Edge (and its massive crowds) impact Food & Wine? We expect that crowds at Epcot will grow as guests who traveled for Galaxy’s Edge — but who normally would not have traveled for Food and Wine — decide to spend time in World Showcase. For example, you’ll have the typical Food and Wine crowds exacerbated by all of the guests flooding Disney World for Galaxy’s Edge. As for how much the crowds will swell beyond Festival norms remains to be seen. Avoid Lines By Planning Ahead What will Food & Wine crowds be like later in the Festival season? In a typical year, the very end of Food & Wine would also see a rise in crowd levels, but we suspect crowds will remain steadily above normal for the duration of the Festival — including the later weeks when historically numbers were slightly lower. This is because Galaxy’s Edge is expected to remain a massive draw for guests for months after its opening — including a second wave of guests who travel for Galaxy’s Edge when Rise of the Resistance opens. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance ©Disney How can I plan ahead for a crowded Festival? If you’re planning a visit to Food & Wine regardless of the fear that crowds will be larger than ever, you’ll want to plan ahead. Start your Festival day right as the booths open — at 11AM. Avoid weekends if you can because those tend to be busier than weekdays. When you plan your Food & Wine booth tour, start at the back of World Showcase rather than at the booths near or in Future World — those will get busy more quickly. Once you’re at the booths, you’ll want to plan on spending more time in those booth lines than in previous years, so build in extra time for the Festival — even spreading it out over multiple days (each starting right at 11AM) if you can. Epcot Food and Wine Festival fans – it’s TIME for Eat to the Beat news! Eat to the Beat! Here at DFB we pride ourselves on reporting Epcot Food and Wine Festival Info just as soon as we have it! And today, we’re sharing with you a look at the VERY FIRST artist who is seemingly slated for the 2019 Eat to the Beat concert series! If you’re new to the Epcot Food and Wine Festival this year, here’s what we’re talking about: The Eat to the Beat Concerts take place during the Epcot Food and Wine Festival (the dates for which WE STILL DON’T KNOW). The series features musical acts from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 00s, and concerts take place most evenings of the Festival. This first named artist is a preliminary listing – nothing is officially official until Disney announces it – so be sure to stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for all additions and changes to the Eat to the Beat lineup. Eat to the Beat concerts are performed three times per evening, so you have three opportunities every night to see your favorite acts — at 5:30PM, 6:45PM, and 8:00PM. 2019 Eat to the Beat Concert Line Up…So Far Note: this schedule is subject to change. October 31-November 1: Sheena Easton This concert is scheduled on the same weekend of the 2019 Wine and Dine Half Marathon – which is pretty exciting if you’re running that weekend. We’ll be updating our Eat to the Beat Schedule Page as soon as we have more bands confirmed! All concerts take place in the American Gardens Theater at Epcot’s America Pavilion. Morimoto Asia in Disney Springs will host the Matsuri Festival on March 31st. The Orange County Register has reported that 1,400 Disneyland Cast Members have been selected to work in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge as preparations move forward for the land’s May 31, 2019 opening. ©Disney from @DisneyParks on Twitter So, what are the emotions for those selected? According to the OC Register, “Disneyland employees wept tears of joy and whooped cheers of excitement” when they were informed they would be part of the inaugural team. The moves of these Cast Members into Galaxy’s Edge will, of course, necessitate the need for Disneyland Resort to hire 1,400 new workers in the areas of attractions, food and beverage, retail, entertainment, and custodial. (Disneyland Resort employs 30,000 Cast Members.) They live outside of Black Spire Outpost. They’re commuting to work. But keep in mind: when you speak to a Batuuan, they may be loyal to the First Order or sympathetic to the Resistance! Experiential-training will be part of the transfer.
