The Disneyland Resort is always providing guests with exciting ways to experience the magic of Disney. This summer has certainly been no exception. From a spectacular stage show to an illuminating fireworks spectacular, this is your last chance to experience these five, limited-time offerings at the Disneyland Resort: 1. Soarin’ Over California If you have ever wanted to see all of the amazing sights California has to offer, now is your final chance to do so at Disney California Adventure park. Soarin’ Over California takes you on a flight to enjoy a bird’s-eye view over the Golden State — from San Francisco’s iconic Golden Gate Bridge to the crashing waves in Malibu. This memorable journey will be grounded on Aug. 31. 2. “Disneyland Forever” Fireworks The street-to-sky celebration features sparkling pyrotechnics, immersive projections and other effects that transform Disneyland park into a magical canvas. You will literally be surrounded by timeless Disney stories — from soaring over London with Peter Pan one moment, to journeying across Simba’s Pride Lands the next. Disney magic stays with you forever, but this nighttime spectacular comes to an end on Sept. 2. 3. “Tale of the Lion King” This stage show celebrates the characters and music of Disney’s “The Lion King” in an imaginative and unique way. The Storytellers of the Pride Lands retells the tale through language, song and dance. Enjoy new musical arrangements of favorite songs, accompanied by live drumming and singing, along with the set and costumes which celebrates the cultural roots of this beloved story. Stampede on over to Disney California Adventure before Sept. 2. 4. Pop-Up Disney! A Mickey Celebration Enjoy a unique, pop-up experience at Downtown Disney District celebrating the legendary mouse that started it all! You’re invited to step inside nine different imaginatively themed rooms where multi-dimensional art and vibrant, visual displays salute Mickey Mouse — from his classic beginnings as a cartoon to Mickey-inspired treats. Tickets for the experience must be purchased online, in advance. Pop in before Sept. 2 while you still can! 5. “Main Street Electrical Parade” This beloved parade just returned to Disneyland park and is once again bringing light to your life. The iconic “Main Street Electrical Parade” radiates a sense of wonder, joy and – for some – warm nostalgia. This spectacular pageant of nighttime magic and imagination with half-million sparkling lights and “electro-syntho-magnetic musical sounds” travels down Main Street, U.S.A. nightly. Come and witness this piece of Disneyland history before it “glows” away on Sept. 30. When you visit the Disneyland Resort to soak up the last of this limited-time magic, be sure to check out other magical experiences—from traveling to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland park to enjoying Pixar Pier in Disney California Adventure park. We drove like the wind when we found out about the Bullseye Cupcake from The Artist’s Palette at Saratoga Springs! The Artist’s Palette If you say peanut butter, chocolate, and cupcake in the same sentence, you can bet we’ll be there to check it out! The Bullseye Cupcake is a chocolate cake with a peanut butter mousse filling, topped with chocolate peanut butter buttercream, candy crisps, and a white chocolate Bullseye topper. YUMMM. Bullseye Cupcake Honestly, we thought this cupcake was DELISH!! And one might even say that it could rival the FAMOUS Chocolate Peanut Butter Crunch Cupcake (also known as the Butterfinger Cupcake) that we love so much. You can read all about the Peanut Butter Crunch Cupcake here! Bullseye Cupcake We enjoyed this cupcake so much because the cake was the perfect texture. And the buttercream was something that every peanut butter lover NEEDS to try! It was such a nice blend of both chocolate and peanut butter, without being too sweet or overwhelming. And we could tell that it was made with real peanut butter instead of some sort of peanut butter flavoring, which we really appreciated! Bullseye Cupcake The little crips gave the cupcake a nice crunch and a great bit of texture. The cupcake itself really matched our pal Bullseye perfectly. Doesn’t he look so darn cute sitting on top of all that delicious buttercream? We also love that the cupcake was so fresh. It didn’t seem like a cupcake that had been made for the masses, with artificial ingredients and flavoring. Instead, it tasted homemade, fresh, and delicious. Bullseye Cupcake You can find this cupcake at The Artist’s Palette at Saratoga Springs for $5.99 0r a snack credit if you’re on the Disney Dining Plan. You’ve got a friend in us, Bullseye cupcake! And we can’t wait to have you again…very soon. Will you be riding like the wind on a Disney bus to get your own Bullseye Cupcake? Let us know in the comments below! In today’s Disney Doodle, artist Ashley Taylor imagines what Captain Amelia Smollet from “Treasure Planet” would do if she had the chance to visit Walt Disney World Resort. According to Ashley, this intergalactic voyager just may seek some fun in Adventureland. “Captain Amelia Smollet is an experienced captain in Treasure Planet,” Ashley said. “It’s easy to imagine her appreciating the pirates ships inside Pirates of the Caribbean!” View the full article

Grand Floridian Cafe is located at the Grand Floridian Resort just a Monorail ride away from Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Contemporary Resort, and Polynesian Village Resort. (And soon — possibly via walkway from Magic Kingdom!) Learn About: San Angel Inn Restaurante Epcot Restaurants Disney World Restaurants This Victorian-inspired restaurant serves table service eats for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with identical breakfast and lunch menus resulting in some truly epic brunch bites. We’re talking a Buttermilk Chicken and Waffle, an Eggs Benedict Flight, and more. Click here to see why brunch is brilliant at Grand Floridian Cafe! But on this visit, we’re grabbing dinner. The dinner menu here is a separate entity from breakfast and lunch, but some popular ‘brunch’ items do appear at dinner, too! The Lobster ‘Thermidor’ Burger is available all day (see that review here!), as is the Miso-Glazed Salmon (reviewed below!). The Artisan-Made Spinach-Ricotta Ravioli is a favorite that’s good to go for three meals a day (more on that below, too!), and the Buttermilk Fried Chicken makes a reprise at dinner (but without the waffle). The point is: Grand Floridian Cafe’s got your tastebuds’ backs all day long! So let’s see how dinner stacks up and whether Grand Floridian Cafe is good for more than just a fabulous brunch. Grand Floridian Cafe Atmosphere The atmosphere of Grand Floridian Cafe echos the Victorian tones of the entire Resort. Flowered wallpaper is layered with heavy white moldings, patterned carpets, and columns. The check-in desk is relatively small, but since this isn’t an overly-crowded restaurant (most of the time!), that’s okay! Check In The Cafe is able to text diners when their tables are ready (once they’ve checked in in person!). We waited about five minutes and did receive the text when they were ready for us. Hopefully this technology will help reduce the sting of having to wait when you arrive. Check In The dining room continues the Victorian elements, with the space anchored in part by an octagon-shaped area in this center of this space. Inside the octagon, an ornate chandelier glows warmly. Grand Floridian Cafe Dining Room The space is fairly bright, with large arched windows letting that Florida (or, you know, solar system…) sunshine stream in. Diaphanous curtains provide softness without blocking the light. Grand Floridian Cafe Dining Room There’s plenty of seating here, and the space is relaxed despite the (usually stuffy) Victorian touches. You definitely get a slight garden feel between the floral decor elements, light furniture, and moldings that resemble lattice. Grand Floridian Cafe Dining Room You’ll also typically find gorgeous floral arrangements bringing that natural element inside. Grand Floridian Cafe Flowers Place settings are simple, with a small vase and bread plates holding court with silverware and cloth napkins. Table Setting Even the dishware is relaxed. No gold rims and monograms here (we’re looking at you, Victoria & Albert’s)! Table Setting Eats The menus at Grand Floridian Cafe keep the floral theme going, and they’re really pretty. In a way this design and the font used on the menus are fancier than the restaurant actually is in spirit. There are plenty of Specialty Cocktails here, including the Key West and Florida Sunshine. Specialty Cocktails We also received a huge book of cocktail offerings identical the one we received at 1900 Park Fare recently. Click here to find that review and see the full cocktail offerings. Non-Alcoholic Specialties include the Mega-Berry Smoothie, Odwalla Lemonade, and a Specialty Character Drink. The first two would qualify for Disney Dining Plan users, but typically the character cups are not, so keep that in mind if your kiddos are choosing a specialty beverage. Non-Alcoholic Beverages Grand Floridian Cafe also features options from the Disney Family of Wines and non-Disney wines (see above). Featured Wines The menu for Dinner here is not as extensive as that for breakfast and lunch (which essentially is two meals on one menu), but the options include Appetizers, Entrees, and Enhancements. Dinner Menu Note that the Seasonal Soup, Shrimp Cocktail, Heirloom Apple Salad, Onion Soup, and Fried Mozzarella are available at all mealtimes. Appetizer Menu Entrees are nearly all meat- or seafood-centric, so vegetarian and vegan diners will want to speak to a chef about options here. In some cases, tofu may be substituted for a meat protein, or a custom pasta dish may be offered. (The Spinach-Ricotta Ravioli may work for vegetarians, so be sure to pay attention to that one on the regular menu!) Enhancements (e.g. extra sides that Disney introduces so you’d have to spend more than what your Disney Dining Plan includes) include Poached Lobster and/or Shrimp and Scallop Skewers. Dinner Menu Dinner at the Cafe begins with whole-wheat dinner rolls and butter. We appreciate this touch (and all the carbs). Rolls and Butter Here at DFB we rarely pass up an opportunity for fried cheese, and the Hand-Breaded Fried Mozzarella at Grand Floridian Cafe fits the bill for our daily fried cheese quota (which we totally made up). House-Breaded Fried Mozzarella Two large triangles of mozzarella are breaded, fried crispy, and served with tomato jam and artichoke relish. No dipping sauce here. House-Breaded Fried Mozzarella The flavors here are fresh and light (with the exception of the fried cheese, of course!), and the balsamic glaze on top added another level of acidity that is welcome to cut through the heavy cheese. House-Breaded Fried Mozzarella The artichoke relish was a particularly great surprise. It was packed with garlic flavor, so if you try to avoid garlic, you’ll need to skip this appetizer or request it without the artichokes. House-Breaded Fried Mozzarella The mozzarella cheese doesn’t get ooey and gooey in this dish which may or may not work for some diners. We thought the flavors were terrific, so we could overlook this. But if you want a beautiful, long cheese pull, you won’t find it here. House-Breaded Fried Mozzarella From the Entrees, the Artisan-Made Spinach-Ricotta Ravioli is a fantastic option. This dish is packed with special touches, from the seared alba mushrooms to the Tuscan kale. Artisan-Made Spinach Ricotta Ravioli The pasta here is stuffed with ricotta and seasoned well. Toppings include those mushrooms and the kale (you can ask for either to be omitted if you’re not a fan), plus warm tomato vinaigrette, shaved Parmesan, and creamy herb pesto. Artisan-Made Spinach Ricotta Ravioli A drizzle of balsamic and this cheesy dish is filling even for those who typically enjoy meat dishes. There’s a reason the Ravioli is a diner favorite: it’s delicious. Artisan-Made Spinach Ricotta Ravioli The Cafe Meatloaf is a comforting dish made all the more so by thick caramelized onion gravy! (You’ll see a kiddo in our group requested the gravy on the side. Let’s just say the dish probably benefits aesthetically from a nice blanket of gravy atop the meat, as is the typical presentation!) Cafe Meatloaf The meatloaf is comprised of ground turkey and spices (there may also be a binder of eggs and/or breadcrumbs, to double check if you’ve got allergies!), and it’s surprisingly flavorful. Cafe Meatloaf The Cafe Meatloaf comes with a side of smashed red bliss potatoes, which are standard and nothing special. But we really enjoyed the buttery broccolini that comes with this dish. Overall, this is a simple and hearty offering that works for picky eaters (gravy on the side, perhaps?) and kiddos with big appetites! Cafe Meatloaf Another child in our dining party opted for the Miso-Glazed Salmon… without the miso glaze. The glaze is typically thick and flavorful, so while we appreciate a simple plate of food (salmon, rice, green beans), the adults at the table would’ve preferred that salty/sweet glaze! Miso-Glazed Salmon Still, the salmon was seasoned and cooked very well — in fact, the fish was delicious on its own, sans glaze. Miso-Glazed Salmon The fish is a decent size filet, but the dish benefits from generous servings of sides. Miso-Glazed Salmon Lemon sticky rice is super lemony. French green beans weren’t overcooked and have a simple, salty flavor. Miso-Glazed Salmon For steak lovers, the New York Strip is a solid option. Simply seasoned, the size of this cut of meat was good. We ordered ours medium-rare, and it definitely came out closer to medium. But it retained is juiciness and flavor, so we didn’t complain. New York Strip Steak Sides are simple on this dish, too. We enjoyed another serving of the buttery broccolini, and the potato gratin was terrific. New York Strip Steak Point of fact, this would have been awesome to get with the meatloaf, too, since it’s got way more flavor without losing any of the starchiness. New York Strip Steak The New York Strip should also come with roasted cipollini onions, but ours were forgotten. We love them, so we were bummed. If this happens to you (we’re guessing it was a very rare oversight), speak up and let your server know you’d like them. Though these dishes were mostly simple and straightforward (the Ravioli is by far the most creative of the entrees we ordered), we enjoyed each one. They are satisfying and well-seasoned across the board, but the loss of those onions is unfortunate…and even if an oversight is a rare one, it’s still an oversight when you’re on an expensive trip to Disney World. Nosh or Not? Plan for dinner at Grand Floridian Cafe if: You enjoy quality food in a tranquil setting that’s just a Monorail ride away from Magic Kingdom. You’re staying at Grand Floridian and want relaxed table service dining. Visiting the Grand Floridian is on your to-do list, and you’d like to partake in quintessential Grand Flo dining! Skip Grand Floridian Cafe if: You’re not interested in traveling beyond a Park or your Resort for dining. Table service dining isn’t your thing. You prefer food that’s a little more unusual or that features flavors from around the (real) world. Overall Grand Floridian Cafe is proving to be a consistently good restaurant for dining outside of a theme park at Walt Disney World. The food is great pretty much across the board, the dining room is peaceful and relaxed (despite its Victorian roots), and the location is convenient even if you’re not staying at the Resort. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed brunch and encourage readers who want to brunch at Walt Disney World to consider the Grand Floridian Cafe, and dinner has its appeal, too, so we’ve enjoyed trying them both multiple times. Overall, I’d say brunch is the better choice here — the menu, in our opinion, is more appealing than dinner, and in our experience brunch has been the better meal as well. When those post-Disney Parks blues kick in, there are lots of ways to fill the void. Some of us read trip reports, others ghost plan future trips (don’t say we’re the only ones who do this…), and still others pore over their vacation photos and videos. All of these efforts to reclaim the magic are valid, but there’s one way in particular that DFB recommends: eating. But not just any old snacks! We’re talking Disney Parks food favorites you can find at home! Reclaim the magic at home! Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bars Back in January of 2019, Disney announced that its iconic Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar would soon be available in grocery stores around the country. And we heard from lots of readers who were excited to find their favorite frozen, Mickey-shaped treats close to home! Mickey Ice Cream Bars at Home We taste-tested them ourselves and noted a few differences. They’re noticeably smaller than the bars in the parks, and the ice cream seemed a little less creamy. But overall, we still got that snap as we bit into the chocolate, and it still resembled the classic Parks treat. We’ve seen these range in price from $7 to $8 for a box of six, so there’s a price difference, too. But if you need a little magic (and ice cream) in your life, these will work! Find out WHERE Mickey Premium Bars have been spotted in Grocery Stores around the country — click here! Dole Whip Dole Whip has become a quintessential Disney Parks treat, and you know we’re always on the lookout for new incarnations of this popular frozen, non-dairy treat. But what about when you get home? How can you replicate that sweet and tart pineapple soft-serve? Well, there are surprisingly several ways to accomplish this! Dole Whip For starters, if you’ve got an ice cream maker, you can order the Dole Whip mix and make some yourself. Endless (at least until the bag runs out!) Dole Whip on demand? Yes, please! The Dole Plantation in Hawai’i also serves the frozen treat (of course!), and we’ve spotted it at random amusement parks around the country, too. So keep your eyes peeled in your travels! Dole Whip from Hawaii! But you can also find Dole Whip on tap at nationwide froyo chains like Sweet Frog and Menchie’s where you can also top your Dole Whip with whatever you please! (Just give them a call to find out when they’ll be rotating it into their machines!) Minnie’s Bake Shop Treats Want a treat you can have delivered to your front door? Minnie’s Bake Shop items are available for purchase online! This 7-ounce bag of Graham Cookies can be found here! Minnie’s Bake Shop Graham Cookies Imagine pulling these out of your cupboard while you watch the Disney World vacation planning video for the 100th time. Pure snacking bliss. Good Health Mickey Shaped Veggie Chips Trying to get your kids to snack on something with the word “veggie” in it? Mickey’s got a chip for that. These Mickey Shaped Veggie Chips from good health are readily available in the real world. (Click here to buy a bag of 24, 1 ounce packs!) Mickey-shaped Veggie Chips They’re sized for lunchboxes or road trips (Where are you going? Are you going to Disney World? Can we come?), and even though they’re not really a health food, they do contain some vegetable goodness along with that familiar chippy crunch! Krave Jerky Develop a hankering for your favorite Park jerky from Krave? This meaty snack is available nationwide, so you don’t have to wait until you return to the Parks to cave in to that protein Krave-ing (see what we did there?). You can even order a variety pack here! Krave Jerky Protein-y snacking that reminds me of Disney? Yes please. Pure Growth Snacks Pure Growth is another nationally-available snack that we’ve grown accustomed to seeing in the Parks. These organic treats are super-fun, including favorites like Mickey-shaped chocolate animal crackers! Pure Growth Organic Snacks chocolate animal crackers We think the kiddos would love to see these treats in the cupboard at home while they’re reminiscing about their best Disney memories. We’ve spotted these in big box stores, so the next time you stop in for toilet paper (and end up buying fifteen other things), throw a pack of these in the cart, too! Selma’s Cookies If you gain an appreciation (read: a desperate craving) for Selma’s Cookies while you’re in Walt Disney World (same!), brace yourself. Selma’s are available to order online! Selmas Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookie — One of Our Favorites! In the Parks, you’ll find Selma’s in confectionery cases and pre-packaged and branded as Minnie’s Bake Shop. On Selmas.com, order a variety box, a bunch of chocolate chip, or a tin for special occasions — or get one of each because cookies. Bonus: Mickey Straws! These aren’t expressly an edible treat, but Mickey Straws make every beverage a little more fun to drink! We’re not seeing these included with drinks in the Parks these days, but we were able to find them online (click here!) so the Mickey sipping fun can continue even after the luggage is unpacked! You gotta have one! Or ten! Yeah, we’re a little obsessed with Disney Parks food, so you can bet we’re always on the lookout for ways to replicate the snack experience when we get home. These are some of our favorite ways to keep the magic alive! Do you have a Disney Parks food outside the Parks tip? Share with us in the comments! New attractions, new restaurants, new hotels — Disney World is getting some MAJOR renovations (that we are extremely excited about) currently. Riviera Resort Skyliner Construction With changes in the park happening in full swing, it’s no surprise that the transportation system is getting some pretty big updates to better accommodate guests AND the new developments. So what’s so different about transportation and how does it affect your stay at Disney World? Well, we have some good (and bad!) news for you, friends! Four BIG changes have been transforming Disney World’s transportation front. Get ready for some park hopping, because it’s becoming simpler than ever to explore everything Disney World has to offer! However, with all the benefits of transportation advancements, there’s bound to be a few cons to park travel. 1) Updated Monorails The Monorails opened along with the rest of Disney World in 1971. Although there have been different wraps around the outside of the cars previously, the monorails are finally receiving a well-needed update on both the outside and the inside. Outside Of The Silver Monorail While the outside is getting a sleeker appearance, the inside is being upgraded with new seats for better guest comfort. At the moment, we’ve only seen the Silver Monorail redone, but the other colors on the Monorail line will be getting revamped as well. Inside The Silver Monorail After a long day in the parks, having new cushions to lean back on will be a definite plus. That is, if you can grab a seat with the expected increase of crowds coming to the parks with the new attractions, lands, hotels, and restaurants. 2) Disney Bus System Updates Just like the cars on the Monorails are receiving some renovations, some new Disney buses have have arrived with even more bells and whistles. The new Sensational Six buses have rolled out, showcasing Mickey and friends on the outside! These also boast new floors, seats, and USB charging ports on the inside! Inside the Sensational Six Buses! Sensational Six Bus Charging Ports Other bus system updates include some pretty useful My Disney Experience app updates! Guests can always check the screens at their resort bus stops for estimated arrival times. But now, with an active hotel reservation, guests can check the bus schedule through the My Disney Experience app and see when the next bus for their destination will be arriving! That means no more JUST missing that bus to the Magic Kingdom and having to wait 20 minutes for the next one to arrive! My Disney Experience Bus Schedule ©Disney This makes planning SO MUCH EASIER in the mornings or in the parks if you know exactly when a bus will arrive both to your location and your destination. Yeah, this definitely means we’re sleeping in as much as we can since we know when the buses will be pulling up. 3) Skyliner Gondolas The Skyliner Gondola System will open in Disney World on September 29th this year. While the skyliner gondolas adorably resemble ski-lifts, they hold up to 10 people each and will efficiently connect Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Art of Animation Resort, Caribbean Beach Resort, Pop Century Resort, and Riviera Resort (opening soon). Many of these hotels previously only offered bus service, so this will benefit guests who wish to park-hop or even resort-hop. Skyliner Gondola Station Even though there is no confirmation of this yet, the prices of the hotels mentioned may increase because of the convenient new transportation attached to them. Why are we anticipating price hikes? This will be the first direct transportation option from these resorts to Hollywood Studios other than the bus system. And with the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, there may be higher demand to get into that park. Skyliner Gondolas Are The Latest Form Of Disney Transportation 4) Roadwork Extravaganza Luckily, the “cons” of this particular transformation are somewhat coming to an end, but there are still a few repercussions. If you ever drive around Disney World, you may have noticed a TON of roadwork over the past few years. Purple Road Signs Mean You’re In Disney World! From building entirely new roads to updating old routes, there’s not only been continuous construction but also messed up maps and re-routes from what we’ve gotten used to when driving around Disney World. Construction Two of the most notable changes have been the updated entrance and parking area for Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the re-routing of traffic going to the Magic Kingdom Resort Hotels. Hollywood Studios Parking Construction While these updates are apparently necessary to accommodate the extra crowds, cars, and park and resort updates, it can be a hassle for drivers in the area trying to find their way around. That said, now that guests no longer have to go through the Magic Kingdom parking toll plaza to get to the Magic Kingdom resort hotels, it can be much faster and easier to get to your hotel on busy Magic Kingdom days. Magic Kingdom Resort Guests No Longer Have to Wait In These Lines So pay attention to your map app everyone — things have changed since you’ve last been here! Regardless of the pros and cons, Disney World’s need for updated transportation has been a long time coming! Whenever you plan your next vacation to the parks, consider the new transportation updates and changes as you plan your routes around Disney World. What mode of Disney Transportation are you looking forward to the most? Let us know in the comments below! The 101 Dalmatians Cupcake has been SPOTTED at All-Star Movies Resort! 101 Dalmatians Cupcake The chocolate cake is filled with vanilla buttercream and topped with more black-spotted vanilla buttercream, a blue fondant collar, a white chocolate square, and a yellow sugar bone. Vanilla Buttercream And Chocolate Cake This is another sweet, tasty treat at All-Star Movies! While the chocolate cake is soft and rich, the amount of vanilla buttercream icing balances the cupcake with its light flavor. The white chocolate square is a lovely complement to the soft chocolate cake. The final crunch of the yellow sugar bone ties the cupcake together, as it was basically just a shaped sugar cube. Perdita and Pongo Would Lick This Up! While it’s a simple flavor, this cupcake is easy for anyone to enjoy, even your picky-eating pups! You can get your paws on the 101 Dalmatians Cupcake for $5.99 or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit. The Adorable Yellow Bone And Blue Collar Are Paw-tastic Additions! All-Star Music After spotting the villain at Villains After Hours (through August 8th in Magic Kingdom!), we couldn’t help but melt for him. Now at one of the All-Stars Resorts, you can get a taste of a treat straight from the gods. The Hades Cupcake is HOT over at All-Star Music! The Hades Cupcake The chocolate cake is topped with blue cotton candy icing, light blue lemon icing, a white chocolate Hades, and edible glitter; and is sporting an orange sprinkle center! Orange Sprinkle Center The cotton candy and lemon icing combination sounded so strange to us at first, but they are definitely flavors worth rearranging the cosmos for! The distinctive tastes blend extremely well together, complementing the rich chocolate cake. After taking a bite of the soft cupcake, the small crunch the sprinkles deliver and the sweet white chocolate add the final touches to a great dessert. Cotton Candy, Lemon Icing, And Edible Glitter You can taste the fiery Hades Cupcake for $5.99 or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit. The God Of The Underworld Himself! Sorry, Wonder Boy. You’ve got nothin’ on this flaming hot cupcake! Have you tried the Hades Cupcake? Let us know in the comments below! Disney’s Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show is a luau feast featuring Polynesian-inspired food and entertainment in an open-air setting. Learn About: San Angel Inn Restaurante Epcot Restaurants Disney World Restaurants Located in Luau Cove at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, this dinner show highlights hula traditions, enthusiastic drumming, fire dancing, and more as diners enjoy platters of all-you-care-to-enjoy eats. The Disney official backstory of Spirit of Aloha is that the host of the luau, Auntie Wini, is bidding aloha to one of her ‘ohana who’s heading “to the mainland” for college. And because when you’re at the Polynesian, everyone is ‘ohana, you’re invited to the celebration, too! And we have to say: Auntie Wini does know how to put on a show! But would we be as taken with the food as we were with the entertainment? Let’s take a ride on the Hawaiian roller coaster that is Spirit of Aloha and see is we feel the love. Spirit of Aloha Check-In and Arrival Disney’s Spirit of Aloha offers two showtimes: 5:15PM and 8:15PM. You can check in starting up to one hour before the show begins, and we recommend getting there early so you have time to explore the Resort and make the walk to Luau Cove. Check-In When we checked in, we received a faux-flower lei and our tickets for seating at the show. Seating is assigned ahead of time depending on the category of seating you selected (more of that in a bit!), so there’s no reason to rush for a “good seat”. Spirit of Aloha Leis After checking in, we were told we could pose for a PhotoPass pic with the Poly Lobby’s central tiki figure (that’s the carved gentleman in the back, not the friendly guy with the camera) or follow the signs for Luau Cove. PhotoPass in the Poly Lobby We took a pass on a photo this time and made our way to Luau Cove. To Luau Cove Luau Cove is located on the far left of the Resort when you exit the Great Ceremonial House facing toward the pool and beach beyond. Follow the signs to Luau Cove As you begin your somewhat lengthy walk to Luau Cove, don’t forget to take in your surroundings. The Polynesian is beautiful at every turn (and check out that dusky sky!). Don’t forget the views! Winding paths lead you to Luau Cove, with occasional signs pointing you in the right direction along the way. Walking to Luau Cove Just before you enter Luau Cove, there’s a large waiting area (outdoor with no covering) where you’ll hang out until cast members begin guiding guests to their pre-assigned tables. Waiting Area The area can fill up quite a bit as showtime nears, but because it’s an open-air space, it’s not uncomfortable. The heat, on the other hand… it can be a little much. Prepare for that if you’re visiting on a particularly balmy evening. On our way! Along the path we did make a new friend: this guy! He’s an auspicious tiki, and you’re encouraged to rub his nose for good luck. (We’re hoping for delicious eats, but that’s just us.) Rub the Tiki’s nose for good luck! Atmosphere The atmosphere of Luau Cove is classic Polynesian. Anywhere the designers could get away with using bamboo, they used it. Spirit of Aloha Sign You’ll also pass under this sign as you enter the seating area. No hanging ten here, but we appreciate the sentiment of a surfboard spanning overhead (and that sky again!). Spirit of Aloha The stage is the centerpiece of Luau Cove, as well it should be for this dinner-and-a-show! It features some classic Polynesian design elements like carved wood, thatched roofs, and more bamboo. Spirit of Aloha Stage The stage is also set with percussion instruments and plenty of space for breaking it down Polynesian style. (There will be hula, in case you were wondering.) Spirit of Aloha Stage Tables are stone and tile, while seating is slightly padded bamboo. Table settings are simple, with rectangular white plates, silverware, golden yellow cloth napkins, and water glasses. Appetizers and a water pitcher were waiting for us when we arrived. There are two leaf-shaped metal platform trays on the table to help conserve some space since there will be plenty of food and drinks covering the table top throughout your meal. Table Setting at Spirit of Aloha Spirit of Aloha has three categories of seating arrayed in front of the stage on two levels. Category 1 seating is front and center, close to the action on stage. Category 2 is in the center of the second level of seating and on the right and left flanks of the lower level Category 1 seating. Category three seating is furthest to the right and left of the seating area on both the lower and upper levels. Seating Chart at Spirit of Aloha As one would expect, these categories correlate to price. Category 1 is $78 per adult and $46 per child (3-9). Category 2 is $74 for adults and $44 for children. Category 3 costs $66 for adults and $39 for kids. If you’re using the Disney Dining Plan, only Categories 2 and 3 are eligible, and they require 2 credits per person on the standard Disney Dining Plan and on the Deluxe Disney Dining Plan. But let’s stop talking numbers and start talking LUAU! Entertainment The entertainment begins as soon as diners are seated. Introductions and a welcome song start the show as diners begin digging into their appetizers. Introductions and Song The stage is well-lit and clearly the focus of the night, as the dining space itself is not particularly bright. Introductions and Song After introductions (as diners continue with their apps), it is time for a hula lesson! ‘Ohana of all ages can participate, and as you can see, it was a ton of fun. Hula Lesson There are a few other interactive parts of the show, including one where grown-ups are invited on stage for a dance lesson and times when performers dance through the dining space, bringing the show to the people. (They didn’t pause for photos, so we’ll spare you the blurry pics!) Luau Show As dinner progresses, the entertainment on stage continues. Traditional music, song, and dance take many forms. Luau Show Performers also sing “Happy Birthday” for those celebrating in the audience… Luau Show …and there’s a romantic song for those enjoying anniversaries, engagements, and marriages. Luau Show To give you some perspective on the views, we opted for Category 2 seating, and we were on the upper level. You can see that the “upper level” is really only two steps higher than the lower level, so those of smaller stature may have some difficulty seeing from their seats. Luau Show There’s a seat cushion for that! We were dining with kiddos, and we were offered high chairs, booster seats, and these seat cushions to help them see a little better over the crowd. Seat Cushion Note that some of the Category 3 seating may have obstructed views, so consider that when deciding which Category to choose. Eats The entertainment is timed to coincide with the meal, so throughout the performances, we are attended to by servers who are available to refill drinks, bring second (or third) helpings of food, and assist with anything else diners might need. Spirit of Aloha Menu The right side of the menu at Spirit of Aloha displays your All-You-Care-To-Enjoy feast items, including Appetizers, Main Courses, and Desserts. There are Na Keiki (kids’) offerings, too, so mention these to your server if you’d like to add them (at no charge). Complimentary beverages include fountain drinks, tea, milk, coffee, and beer or wine for those over 21. You can enjoy unlimited drinks and even change them up through the meal. Spirit of Aloha Menu The left side of the menu highlights offerings that add to your cost, including the Signature Cocktail, Specialty Cocktails, Craft Beers, and Non-Alcoholic Concoctions. Spirit of Aloha Menu We went with Beso Del Sol Sangria which was fine. It came with two orange slices and lots of ice. We also ordered a Diet Coke. Sangria The Appetizer platter included some lovely fresh, tropical fruit. We had watermelon and pineapple, and as the meal progressed, we requested seconds of this. The additional fruit was brought in a small bowl, but if we had requested seconds of everything on the platter, they would bring out a second full platter. The same method is used for the Main Courses, too, so hopefully this cuts down on food waste. Fresh Fruit The Iceberg Wedge Salad was topped with Ginger-Lime Dressing that we really liked. It’s very ginger-y, though, so if you think you’d like something different, you’ll want to ask. Salad with Ginger Lime Dressing Our favorite Appetizer was the Edamame Salad with Noodles. This is served cold and lightly dressed, and it was one of our favorite parts of the meal. Definitely dig into this! Noodle Salad It’s packed with corn, edamame, red onion, black beans, and diced tomato. It was light and refreshing. Noodle Salad The Main Course is a platter that consists of a bed of Coconut-Jasmine Rice, Roasted Broccolini with Basil-Olive Oil, Aloha Pulled Pork. Polynesian Barbecued Ribs, and Roasted Chicken. Spirit of Aloha Platter We loved the fragrant Coconut-Jasmine Rice. Picky eaters may want to see if they can bring plain rice, but if you’re a fan of coconut, this is delicious. We know: it’s rice! But it’s really good! Coconut Rice The Aloha Pulled Pork is flavored with Chipotle Barbecue Sauce. This was tender and flavorful meat that’s presented simply — no sauce on top or served on the side. So you’re getting the Chipotle Barbecue Sauce in the meat itself from the cooking process. The pork was meaty with very little fat. It was probably our favorite protein on the platter. Aloha Pulled Pork The Polynesian Barbecued Pork Ribs were also tender and flavorful. This time, there’s sweet sauce poured over the meat once it’s plated, which is good news because when the sauce seeps into the rice, you’ve got a delicious combo! Polynesian Ribs We enjoyed the ribs, but though the meat was tender, it wasn’t fall-off-the-bone tender, which is what we were hoping for. (You’ll notice there’s a bit of green tucked in there behind the ribs; the seasonal veggie on our visit was Broccolini. It was fine but slightly overcooked. It would be nice to get a separate dish with more vegetables, but this is pretty much a meat fest.) Polynesian Ribs The Roasted Chicken with Poly-Churri Sauce was seasoned well and quite good. The Poly-Churri Sauce was herbaceous and salty, but we think most picky eaters would still like this. The seasoning was not overpowering. Roasted Chicken But if you do have very picky eaters in tow (or kids, as we did), the kids’ menu offers a few options. Disney Check Meals include Grilled Chicken Breast or Fish of the Day served with green beans, brown rice, and fresh fruit. Our little hula dancers opted for the Mini Corn Dogs with Tater Bites and the Cheese Pizza instead. Kids’ Cheese Pizza These two items were standard theme park food, which is good if that’s what you’re looking for. (Picky grown-ups can also request items from the kids’ menu, so note that if you’ve got one in your group!) Kids’ Corn Dog Nuggets When the Main Course platter and plates were removed, our server brought over dessert plates with spoons so we could dig into the family-style sweets. Dessert Plates Dessert included two large portions of two different cakes: Mocha Chocolate and Toasted Coconut Pineapple. Dessert at Spirit of Aloha We enjoyed both of these sweet treats, and it was more than enough for four after the previous courses. Spirit of Aloha Dessert The Mocha Chocolate Cake isn’t too heavy on the mocha, but if you’re averse, you can request not to get this. It’s topped with the mini chocolate balls we’re starting to see used on desserts around Walt Disney World. The cake itself was moist and sweet, and the frosting was delicious. Mocha Chocolate Cake The Toasted Coconut Pineapple Cake is layered with pineapple sauce and coconut, and the whole thing is iced simply with a thin layer of vanilla frosting topped with more coconut. Unsurprisingly, the coconut is pretty strong, and we loved how light this was after all those heavy proteins in the previous course. Toasted Coconut Pineapple Cake The cakes were a great way to end the meal, and while we couldn’t eat more than they brought over, you can request more if you’d like. And that’s a good attribute of this meal: you’re likely not to leave hungry! And each course included items we really liked, so for us, the food was a pleasant surprise. Luau or Not? Loosen up your hula hips if: You love the festivity of a luau and want to experience Disney’s version. It’s time to celebrate a big event in your life with a big event on vacation! You are a student of Polynesian culture and want to see how Disney interprets it. See how far you’ll go elsewhere if: You don’t want to experience Disney’s version of Polynesian food and entertainment. The Polynesian Village Resort is off the beaten path for you, and you don’t want to travel for dining. A lengthy table service meal (it IS quite long) doesn’t fit in your Disney World touring schedule Overall Spirit of Aloha is a fun experience. The energy of the performers and those moments when they interact with the audience are engaging and truly entertaining. The food at Spirit of Aloha isn’t winning any awards, but it was still tasty, and we enjoyed being able to eat a little of this and a little of that. We think that for most guests, this is probably a one-and-done, but even as such, it’s a fun one-and-done that will leave you with plenty of memories and a sense of aloha which, after all, is the soul of the show. If you want to see what other dining delights the Polynesian has in store, check out our food tour of the Resort below! Have you tried the Spirit of Aloha? Salt and Straw in Downtown Disney has created a new Farmers Market series. And what’s on the menu you ask?! VEGGIE ICE CREAM! Salt and Straw According to the Downtown Disney ice cream spot, they purchased and used about 14,000 pounds of summer veggies from 15 local farmers to use in their new ice creams. So, let’s check out these interesting flavors. First up, Carrot Cake Batter with Pralined Hazelnuts. They shred fresh carrots and roast them with a bunch of spices until the spices caramelize. Then, they add in vanilla cheesecake and candied hazelnuts. ©Salt and Straw They’re also serving the Caramel Corn on the Cob flavor. First, they sauté sweet corn in brown butter. Then, they “steep them as you would a bundle of spices.” After this, they transform this into ice cream and add in vanilla-spiked caramel. ©Salt and Straw Now let’s check out the Tomatoes and Strawberry Sorbet, which is actually a vegan option! To create this flavor, Salt and Straw starts by juicing tomatoes and then they blend them with some strawberries and Arbequina olive oil. ©Salt and Straw These flavors should be available at Salt and Straw throughout the month of August. If you’re in the mood for ice cream when exploring Disney California Adventure, then Clarabelle’s Hand-Scooped Ice Cream is THE place to go! Clarabelle’s Hand Scooped Ice Cream Especially, now that they have added the Mich-Helado to the menu!! Clarabelle’s Hand-Scooped Ice Cream serves tons of sundaes including The Kitchen Sink and The Oswald Sundae. They also serve the Mangonada, which you can also find over at Schmoozies! Clarabelle’s Ice Cream Check out our full Clarabelle’s Hand-Scooped Ice Cream review here! And now, they are serving up the Mich-Helado! This is made with iced amber beer, spiced tomato, lime sorbet, house-made tamarindo sauce, and Tajin. Mich-Helado Tajin has been a trendy ingredient around Disneyland Resort for a while now, and this drink has a lot of it! Since the Tajin is on the rim of the drink, you get a bit of that unique “Tajin kick” in every sip. Mich-Helado We thought the beer worked well with the Tajin. We tasted a bit of spiciness after each sip, but that was quickly diffused by the ice-cold beer. Mich-Helado Now, the part that was a little off for us was the tomato and lime sorbet ball, which is doused in tamarindo sauce. Though we thought the sorbet was good on its own — we weren’t huge fans of the combination with the tamarindo sauce. The savory and sweet between the two clashed instead of working together. Mich-Helado Sorbet Ball We did drop the sorbet ball into the drink and everything actually mixed quite well! The sorbet kept the drink cool and the overwhelming taste of the tamarindo seemed to fade into the background. After we dropped the sorbet ball into the drink, we were actually pleasantly surprised with the outcome and we really enjoyed the drink! But WARNING! Be prepared for guests to stop you to ask where you got the drink because it’s a total eye-catcher. You can find the Mich-Helado at Clarabelle’s Hand-Scooped Ice Cream for $10.49!
