Disney+ Update: What We Learned at the D23 Expo!
Disney4me posted a topic in Disney Food/Restaurants
The Disney+ streaming service will go live on November 12, and when it does, tons of new, original content and beloved old favorites will be beamed into televisions, phones, and tablets around the globe. At the D23 Expo yesterday, fans learned more about the logistics of the highly-anticipated Disney+ service. Disney+ First things first: if you’ve got more than one Disney fan looking to stream at the same time, there’s great news for you! Disney+ will allow four simultaneous streams on registered devices at one time — with no up-charges! Good news, kids! You get Disney+, and you get Disney+ and you get Disney+! Lady and the Tramp — coming to Disney+! In addition to those four concurrent streams, Disney+ will permit unlimited downloads of content that users can watch offline. Downloads can be viewed on up to ten devices with no limits on how many times a title can be downloaded. And don’t worry about having to wade through the kids’ Forky Asks a Question to get to your The World According to Jeff Goldblum; Disney+ will allow up to seven profiles per account (with some 200 avatars from which to choose to personalize your profile!). Forky Asks a Question — and you can watch offline! Programming will be commercial-free (yes!) and stream in ultra-high-definition with up to 4K Ultra HD video playback in Dolby Vision, HDR10, and Dolby Atmos audio (if your device supports these technologies). As for accessibility, Disney+ has covered a lot of bases. Older programming will be available in four languages: English, Spanish, French, and Dutch. New, original content will be available in even more languages. Disney+ will also have support for closed captioning, descriptive audio, and navigation assistance. High School Musical: the Series D23 is still in full-swing, with even more announcements due all weekend long. We already got a peek at a new Moana-inspired attraction coming to Epcot and the docu-series “One Day at Disney” that’s coming to Disney+. If you want to follow along with the D23 livestream, click here to for times and content! And stick with DFB — we’ll be bringing you updates as the big news unfolds! Follow DFB on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook so you don’t miss a single bit of Disney news! Let us know which aspect of Disney+ you’re most looking forward to! Comment below! Disney World is no stranger to introducing over-the-top treats that have price tags to match. And while some of the fancy and $$$$$$ eats are totally NOT worth the cost, there are a few that for sure ARE! Strawberry Bubble Waffle Let’s look at our most recent list of totally ridiculous Disney World snacks that are entirely worth the cash dollas… . 1. Minnie Milk Shake from The Plaza Restaurant If you’re looking for a strawberry ice cream treat during your Magic Kingdom day, head straight to The Plaza Restaurant and try the Minnie Milk Shake. This shake is a recent addition to The Plaza’s menu, and we HAD to try it as soon as we saw it. Minnie Milk Shake This is a strawberry milkshake topped with a strawberry glazed donut, chocolate cookies, a chocolate Minnie bow, a strawberry ice cream cone, and whipped cream. There’s a LOT going on with this shake but in the best way. Minnie Milk Shake When we tried this shake, the ice cream was delicious and the toppings held up very well. We thoroughly enjoyed the blended flavors from the chocolate cookies and strawberry ice cream. Minnie Milk Shake The $14 price tag may seem a bit steep for a shake, but it is totally shareable between two or even three people. We’re not sure how long the Minnie Milk Shake will stick around, so be sure to try it when you’re in Magic Kingdom! Read our full review of the Minnie Milk Shake here! 2. Celebration Parfait from Cookie Dough and Everything Sweet In case you missed it, Disney Springs’ West Side has welcomed a NEW food truck — Cookie Dough and Everything Sweet. Cookie Dough and Everything Sweet We tried every featured menu item, and our favorite was the Celebration Parfait! This treat includes layers of Celebration Cookie Dough and Celebration Mickey Cake (which tasted like Funfetti cake), vanilla custard, strawberries, sprinkles, whipped cream, and a cherry. Celebration Parfait This colorful treat was delicious! The balance of the custard, strawberries, and cookie dough was great, and while it was sweet, it wasn’t, like, tooth-pain kind of sweet ;-D. Celebration Parfait You can grab the Celebration Parfait for $8 in Disney Springs. You can’t use a Disney Dining Plan snack credit on it, but we still think it’s worth the out-out-pocket cost. Celebration Parfait Read our first look and full review of Cookie Dough and Everything Sweet here! 3. Bubble Waffles from AristoCrepes You’ll also find the totally epic Bubble Waffles in Disney Springs! AristoCrepes not only serves up sweet and savory crepes, but they offer Strawberry and Caramel Bubble Waffles as well. AristoCrepes sign The Strawberry Bubble Waffle is filled to the brim with vanilla ice cream, fresh strawberries, whipped cream, and strawberry pearls for a unique sundae-on-the-go! Strawberry Bubble Waffle The Salted Caramel Bubble Waffle is filled with chocolate ice cream, chocolate-covered pretzel pieces, crispy pearls, caramel sauce, and more of that vanilla bean whipped cream. Salted Caramel Bubble Waffle Either choice is delicious, but our personal favorite is the Salted Caramel. Each Bubble Waffle costs $8.99 and is not snack-credit eligible. But, these are easily shareable and super filling. And remember — you can even get your Bubble Waffle IN A TROPHY! Strawberry Bubble Waffle Trophy If you want to try one of these REDONK treats, it’s important to note that AristoCrepes doesn’t open until 4 PM on weekdays and 12 PM on weekends. But we could never say no to one of these Bubble Waffles, no matter the time of day. Read our full review of AristoCrepes’ Bubble Waffles here! 4. No Way José Sundae from Beaches & Cream You can find several over-the-top treats at Beaches & Cream (like the Kitchen Sink), but one of our longtime favorites is the No Way José Sundae. No Way José Sundae The base of this sundae is chocolate and vanilla ice cream. It’s doused with hot fudge and peanut butter sauce (give us allll the sauce) and topped with whipped cream, chocolate and peanut butter morsels, and a cherry. No Way José Sundae This sundae has been around a long time and NEVER disappoints. The No Way José is completely worth its $11 price. Check out our full review of Beaches & Cream here! 5. Topped Macaroni & Cheese from Eight Spoon Cafe If you’ve been waiting for us to mention a snack credit-eligible item, you’re in luck! At Eight Spoon Cafe in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, you’ll find a pair of topped macaroni & cheese options. Eight Spoon Cafe Kiosk You can either get your mac topped with shrimp and sweet chili sauce or you can get it loaded with pulled pork. (You can also get plain Macaroni & cheese as well, but we prefer the topped options.) Macaroni & Cheese with Pulled Pork Macaroni & Cheese with Shrimp We absolutely love the shrimp and pulled pork macaroni & cheese whenever we order them — they are both flavorful and delicious. You can get them for $6.69 and $6.49, respectively. Both are EXCELLENT uses of a Disney Dining Plan snack credit. Read our full review of Eight Spoon Cafe’s macaroni & cheese here! 6. Beef Brisket Poutine from Refreshment Port At Epcot’s Refreshment Port, you can grab Beef Brisket Poutine for $8.99. This appeared as a menu item for 2018’s Food and Wine Festival and 2019’s Flower and Garden Festival, but it is listed as a regular menu item at the moment. Beef Brisket Poutine View the menus for 2019’s Food and Wine Festival here! The Beef Brisket Poutine consists of french fries, brisket, beer-cheese sauce, poutine gravy, and crispy onions. What could go wrong when you combine french fries, brisket, and cheese?? We can’t think of anything! Grab this very filling (and worth it!) snack the next time you’re in Epcot. We just found the cutest spoon ever and you NEED to see it. The Golden Horseshoe Bo Peep and her sheep from Toy Story 4 have made an appearance at The Golden Horseshoe in Disneyland! We found this adorable reusable spoon and clip for $6.99 and we think it would be a great addition to go with Bonnie’s Boot Float! Bo-Peep Spoon Signage The spoon represents Bo Peep’s staff! And what would a good sheepherder be without her flock? Her sheep — Billy, Goat, and Gruff — clip right onto the spoon’s handle and can be easily removed for cleaning. Sheep Removable Clip We still love the colorful Toy Story 4 treats that are available around Disneyland. The Loop-de-Loop Sundae wasn’t our favorite, but this spoon would still be fun to scoop up all that ice cream! We aren’t sure how long these will be available, so hurry over to The Golden Horseshoe if you want to grab one. Check out more Disneyland Food Reviews Here!! Art of Animation Resort Today we’ll tell you about some fun new cupcakes, Halloween merchandise, and more! Let’s kick things off at Pop Century Resort. You can grab each of these treats for $5.49 or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit. Bubble, Apple, Toil, and Trouble Cupcakes Chewbacca Chocolate Hazelnut Cupcakes The Bubble, Apple, Toil, and Trouble Cupcake consists of yellow cake with a caramel apple filling, complete with green apples. It’s topped with vanilla buttercream, candied eyes, a sugar bone, sprinkles, and a gummy worm. We enjoyed the toppings and fillings, but the cupcake as a whole was not our favorite. Bubble, Apple, Toil, and Troll Cupcake Read our full review of the Bubble, Apple, Toil, and Trouble Cupcake here! The Chewbacca Chocolate Hazelnut Cupcake is made with chocolate hazelnut cake and a chocolate hazelnut filling. It is topped with chocolate buttercream frosting and two white chocolate and milk chocolate sticks. We thought this cupcake was cute and yummy, but it was very messy. Chewbacca Chocolate Hazelnut Cupcake Read our full review of the Chewbacca Chocolate Hazelnut Cupcake here! We noticed several menu changes at Everything POP. According to a Cast Member, these changes were implemented earlier this week. Everything POP Food Court For starters, they’ve made some changes to the pizza. Servings of pizza are now large rectangular pieces and are made fresh on property. Previously, their pizza was frozen and served in traditional slices. There is now a Large Pizza Dinner option for $29.99, which includes pizza, a Caesar side salad, and breadsticks for 6 people. Everything POP New Menu Everything POP New Pizza Everything POP New Pizza Chicken Noodle and Tomato Basil soups have been removed from the menu, but the Vegetable Soup and Potato Soup with Bacon are still on the menu at the same price. There were several price changes, though. The Turkey Sandwich has increased in price from $10.99 to $11.99, while the Mickey-shaped Waffles increased from $8.29 to $9.99. Everything POP New Menu Next up, the Applewood-Smoked Bacon Cheddar Burger increased in price from $13.99 to $14.49. Everything POP New Menu The Plant-based Burger went up in price from $12.49 to $13.99, while the Chicken Tenders went DOWN in price from $10.99 to $10.49. Also, what was previously called the Cheddar Burger is now the Classic Cheeseburger. Everything POP New Menu The biggest change to Everything POP’s menu is the removal of the create-your-own salad option. Guests can now choose from refrigerated Caesar salads and garden salads. Everything POP Salads Caesar Salad Garden Salad Each salad comes with your choice of chicken or shrimp, though the shrimp was labeled as chicken during our visit. Both salad choices are $11.49. Chicken for Salads Shrimp for Salads Pop Century Resort Construction Update During our visit, walls were still blocking the Pop Century side of the Skyliner station. The new transportation system is set to open September 29th, so we’re hoping they’ll post more information soon! Skyliner Station Area Disney Skyliner Sign Pop Century Resort Merchandise Update Everything POP had a small Halloween merchandise display, but we’d already seen these items around Disney World property. Everything POP Halloween Display Everything POP was also displaying a sign for this month’s Painting with a Pop! activity, which will take place on August 30th from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. Painting with a Pop! Sign Art of Animation Resort Food Update We also found the new cupcakes at Art of Animation Resort’s Landscape of Flavors! Landscape of Flavors Cupcakes The Mermaid Cupcake was available at Art of Animation as well. Landscape of Flavors Cupcakes Landscape of Flavors’ menu had several changes as well. For starters, Chilled Asian Noodle Salad, Caprese Sandwich, Alfredo Pasta, Chicken Parmesan, Surf and Turf Burger, Double Bacon Cheeseburger were all gone from the menu. We noticed a few changes to the burger lineup. An Applewood-smoked Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburger ($14.49) has replaced the Angus Bacon Cheeseburger and comes with French fries instead of your choice of two sides. The Plant-based Burger has increased in price from $11.29 to $13.99 and now comes with fries only (as opposed to fries and one extra side). But, Chicken Tenders are down from $10.99 to $10.49 and the Grilled Chicken Sandwich has decreased in price from $12.99 to $12.29. Also, Landscape of Flavors have added a Classic Cheeseburger with fries to the menu for $13.49. Landscape of Flavors Menu Pomodoro Pasta is now made with turkey meatballs only. Guests used to have a choice of chicken, shrimp, or turkey meatballs. The Lasagna-Pasticcio description changed, but it didn’t seem too different to us. What was previously called “creamy white sauce” is now labeled as “Bechamel sauce.” Landscape of Flavors Menu The create-your-own salad bar was gone, but the Power Salad and Caesar Salad were still available and were served by a Cast Member. Landscape of Flavors Menu Art of Animation Resort Construction Update Art of Animation’s lobby was completely free of construction and looked great! The arcade and bathrooms were open during our visit as well. Art of Animation Lobby Art of Animation Lobby The new area under construction is half of the entrance to the Ink & Paint Shop. Legends of Hollywood in Disney’s Hollywood Studios reopened its doors today just in time for the grand opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge next week, and it looks GORGEOUS inside. Legends of Hollywood Entrance Since it closed its doors a few months ago, we’ve been itching to see what that old Planet Hollywood store would look like once it reopened, and now we know! This spot used to have a classic, dark “Old Hollywood” movie theatre theme. The new redesign includes TONS of very posh detailing as well as its very own Pandora Store! Located just off Sunset Boulevard, this spot used to be a one-stop-shop for any particularly popular film merchandise in the park. Themed like an art deco movie lobby, it carried a ton of Frozen merchandise when that was all the rage, and more recently was loaded with ever-popular Star Wars merch. Legends of Hollywood Windows with Classic Cartoon Posters Now the exterior is loaded with cheery classic Disney cartoon posters lining the windows as well as nods to old Hollywood tucked in the windows as you enter. Old Movie Theatre Touches in the Windows Once inside, the dark, theatre-esque theming is long gone. In its place is a bright, open, high-end looking space. White with gold accents dominates. This does not feel like your average Disney gift shop! We really dig the new vibe. It’s super bright in a very “I just walked into a classy store” kind of way. Inside Legends of Hollywood Don’t expect to find much in the way of toys or plush in here — the merchandise has gone upscale as well. This is going to be your new favorite spot in the Studios for all the great new Disney dresses. Dress Display Coordinating accessories are paired nicely with each dress. Want a dole whip dress? The matching ears, purse, and more are right there to make a complete outfit in seconds! The new line of Princess shirts (so cute!) is displayed along one of the walls. Check out all of the new princess shirts here! Princess Shirt Display And what would a Disney shop be without EARS! A wide variety of ear headbands are available throughout the shop. Ears Display The new and fabulous Betsey Johnson ears are prominently on display. Betsey Johnson Ear Display We found this super cool new Darth Vader purse hanging out in the shop as well! It can be yours for $70. Darth Vader Purse Dooney and Bourke purses take the spotlight on another wall as well. They have a variety of styles to choose from in tons of shapes and sizes. Dooney and Bourke Purses Alex and Ani bands are available at stands in the middle of the shop. Alex and Ani Display We loved the upscale art deco style mixed with classic Disney touches, like this art behind a cash register. Cash Register Heading back through the store, you’ll enter the all-new Pandora Store! All of the charms and bracelets shine in this beautiful display. Pandora Store in Legends of Hollywood Look at how tres-chic the crystal chandelier above is! Ooh-la-la! Chandelier in Legends of Hollywood There are several display cases showing off the jewelry. Sales associates are on hand to help you check out anything that catches your eye! Pandora Display Case We fell in love with this cute set of Haunted Mansion charms! Love you, Leota gurl! Haunted Mansion Pandora Charm We loved this jewelry display and the cool window design behind it. You almost forget you’re in the middle of a theme park! Jewelry Display We were impressed with the redesign of this store. It’s open and inviting, and, for us, a big improvement on the previous darker design. Disney clearly knows that dresses, ears, purses, and accessories are their newest cash cow, so it makes sense that they’d ensure guests would have a front-of-the-park spot to empty their wallets on those goodies. But overall the look and feel is pleasant and upscale, and we’re quite sure this shop is likely to be more frequented than the last. What do you think? Do you love the new, upscale design as much as we do? Let us know in the comments! But, we did enjoy the amount of buffalo chicken bites! Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese There was a nice amount of buffalo flavor, but it wasn’t overwhelming for those of you worried about it being a little too hot! Now, if you are into heat, then you can always add some more spicy flavor with this Texas Pete Hot Sauce. Woah, what a whirlwind of exciting news we’ve already shared thanks to the D23 Expo 2019. ©Disney We’ve learned about an all-new Moana attraction, the names of the Star Wars Hotel in Disney World and Marvel Land in Disneyland Resort. Disney also shared costumes and ride vehicles for the new TRON Lightcycle Run coming to Magic Kingdom — which you can check out here! Now, hop on board as we explore the costumes and the ride vehicle for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway coming to Hollywood Studios in Spring 2020 and Disneyland in 2022. ©Disney We were able to get an even closer look at the costumes thanks to our DFB friend Carlye (@carlyewisel on Twitter). Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway Costumes The costumes are very bright and colorful. The green vest looks a lot like something a train conductor would wear, which makes sense since guests will be riding on a train through the attraction. Cast Members will wear black slacks and will even have the option to wear a hat if they’d like! Speaking of trains, let’s go full steam ahead and check out the ride vehicle for this new attraction. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway ©Disney As you can see, guests will sit towards the front of a very cartoon-like train. The seating area reminds us of the ride vehicle from the Great Movie Ride with a train placed on the front. We’re excited to be a part of a Disney cartoon as we experience the world of Mickey, Minnie, and the entire gang. You can read more about this attraction inspired by “the cadence and comedy” of the new Mickey and Minnie cartoon shorts here! “Mah Na Mah Na.” If you just heard “doo doo, doo doo doo” after reading that, you’ve spent some time around Muppets in your life, and you’re better for it. One of the latest additions to Disney Files On Demand – our ever-evolving collection of Disney newsmaker interview videos created with Disney Vacation Club Members in mind – captures time I was fortunate to spend with an incredible Muppet Performer aboard our most recent Disney Vacation Club Member Cruise. And my life is definitely better for it. As its name would imply, our voyage’s “One on One with Bill Barretta” show allowed me to sit on stage for a one-on-one visit with Muppet Performer Bill Barretta, who lends his versatile voice, acting chops and mastery of puppetry arts to an all-star array of beloved Muppets, from Rowlf the Dog (a character he inherited from Jim Henson) to Pepe the King Prawn (a character Bill originated) to the Muppet behind that “Mah Na Mah Na” song (which will be stuck in your head for the rest of the day). Not long before we set sail, I pitched Bill the idea of opening our show with a little audience singalong to the infectious song, and as he did throughout our voyage, Bill over-delivered. I’m pleased to share footage here of what turned into a hilarious on-stage performance, and I invite you to see more highlights from the show – including appearances by the aforementioned Rowlf the Dog and Pepe the King Prawn – through Disney Files On Demand, available anytime online at disneyvacationclub.com/disneyfiles.
