A few weeks ago, Marvel Rivals celebrated its first anniversary, a milestone that capped an incredible year for the 6 vs 6 team-based third person shooter from NetEase Games. The game has firmly established itself as a fan-favorite, uniting players and Marvel icons in fast-paced battles where real teamwork meets dynamic hero interactions, complete with witty dialogue and powerful team-up abilities. Now, following that celebration, Marvel Rivals is leveling up with its boldest update yet and the arrival of one very talkative Merc with a Mouth, a moment that reflects both how far the game has come and where it’s headed next. Why We’re Fans First Here at the Disney Parks Blog, we’ve been playing Marvel Rivals right alongside the community, and like any good Marvel game, we’ve already picked our favorites. Jen gravitates toward Psylocke and Magik, drawn to their fast-paced, high-impact playstyles and bold personalities. Austin, meanwhile, splits his time between Gambit and Daredevil, favoring heroes that reward timing, agility, and smart positioning. That mix of playstyles mirrors what makes Marvel Rivals so engaging. Every match feels a little different depending on who you choose and how your team comes together, and that hands-on experience is exactly why celebrating the game’s first year feels personal. Marvel Rivals Year One: 40 Million Players & Accolades Marvel Rivals secured a major achievement early on reaching 40 million active users less than three months after its initial launch. Additionally, the game has the largest community fanbase of any video game available, with more than 4.1M players on Discord. Awards Won: Discord “Standout Server of 2025” – Marvel Rivals’ official Discord was recognized as one of Discord’s standout communities of the year. PlayStation Partner Awards 2025 (Japan/Asia) – Grand Award – Marvel Rivals was one of the top five Asia-developed titles by global sales, earning a Grand Award from Sony in 2025 Major Nominations: 28th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards (2025) – Online Game of the Year: Nominated among top online titles. The Game Awards 2025 – Best Ongoing Game: Nominated for Best Ongoing Game at TGA 2025. Streamer Awards 2025 – Stream Game of the Year: Nominated as one of the year’s top games to stream. 43rd Golden Joystick Awards (2025) – “Still Playing” Award (PC & Console): Shortlisted in the Still Playing category (PC/console), recognizing ongoing popularity. The Steam Awards 2025 – “Best Game You Suck At”: Nominated by the Steam community as a challenging game favorite. 29th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards (2026) – Online Game of the Year: Finalist again for Online Game of the Year (pending results in early 2026). 22nd BAFTA Games Awards (2026) – Evolving Game: Longlisted by BAFTA among the year’s top evolving games. Editorial Picks & Honors: TIME Magazine “Best Games of 2025”: Chosen by TIME as one of the 10 best video games of 2025. Year-End “Best of 2025” Lists: Featured in multiple outlets’ annual top games lists (Polygon, NME, etc.), reflecting Marvel Rivals’ critical and popular impact in its debut year These accolades and milestones reflect how strongly players have connected with its team-based gameplay, Marvel-infused personality, and evolving seasonal structure. It’s a clear signal of the game’s momentum during its first year, and a strong foundation as it continues to grow. 45 Heroes Strong and Growing — Deadpool Enters the Marvel Rivals Roster With 45 playable heroes currently available in Marvel Rivals, the roster already offers a deep mix of iconic Marvel characters and varied playstyles that keep strategies fresh and conversations lively. And with a new superhero coming to the game monthly, the breadth of play styles and options for team loadout are constantly changing. That depth encourages experimentation and creative team building as players continue to explore new combinations. Marvel Rivals has hit major milestones, from strong engagement during early tests to growing anticipation with each new season. Frequent updates, fresh heroes, and ambitious maps have kept the hype high, while community feedback continues to shape its direction. The result is a game that’s welcoming for newcomers yet deep enough for competitive players chasing mastery, a balance that defined Marvel Rivals throughout Year One and helped set the tone for what comes next. That momentum now powers Season 6: “Night at the Museum,” which launched January 16, which introduces a mysterious new battleground and welcomes one of the most anticipated additions yet: Deadpool. Known for his unpredictable combat style, fourth-wall-breaking humor, and razor-sharp wit, Deadpool is a perfect fit for Marvel Rivals’ high-energy tone. Expect chaos, katana action, and plenty of chimichangas as he joins the fight. See the official trailer for Season 6 here: Marvel Rivals Esports: Pro League Launches in 202 Marvel Rivals made a bold entrance into competitive gaming in 2025 with the Ignite Series, a global tournament circuit that awarded over $3 million in prizes and culminated in an international Grand Finals. That momentum powers the next chapter in 2026 with the launch of the Marvel Rivals Professional League — introducing a four-region structure, promotion and relegation systems, and official partner teams who will receive revenue-sharing and in-game content support. With two major international LAN events and year-round competition, Marvel Rivals is staking its claim as a major new force in the global esports scene. Where You Can Play Marvel Rivals Marvel Rivals is completely free to play, making it easy for fans to jump in right away. The game is available on: PC (via Steam, Epic Games Store, and the official launcher) PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 Xbox Series X|S With cross-play supported in most modes, players can team up across platforms and jump into matches together without barriers. Visit the official site for more information: https://www.marvelrivals.com/ What’s New & What to Look Forward to Next Season 6 isn’t just about new content, it’s a statement of how far Marvel Rivals has come. Each season has expanded the universe, refined mechanics, and doubled down on what makes Marvel stories resonate: character, spectacle, and fun. As Marvel Rivals enters its second year, more heroes, new locations, and evolving modes are on the horizon. If Year One proved what the game could be, Season 6 shows it’s just getting started. It’s only natural that Disney fans want MORE of this popular Disney World transportation! Disney Skyliner TheDisney Skyliner is a FREE gondola system at Disney World that been an integral part of the way Disney guests get around the resort since it opened in 2019. Though it isn’t perfect, fans have really loved how this sky-based transportation connects four Disney incredibly popular hotels to both Disney’s Hollywood Studios and EPCOT in a convenient fashion. Arguably Disney’s most efficient form of transportation methods, it only makes sense that many guests want the Skyliner to be expanded to include MORE Disney World hotels and parks. Here’s why that’s unlikely to happen… The Skyliner currently moves in continuous motion and provides a spacious/scenic view between EPCOT (with a terminal at the park’s back International Gateway entrance), Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Riviera Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort (which shares a Skyliner station with Pop Century). Disney Skyliner at Art of Animation and Pop Century Resorts As it’s currently constructed, the Skyliner route connects resorts and parks that are close by and generally within a straight shot of one another. Ultimately, adjusting the route to make stops at the other two Disney World theme parks would completely deviate from the concept of convenient proximity. Skyliner Map Disney’s Animal Kingdom is significantly further out from the current Skyliner route over on the west end of Disney World, and getting out there would mean navigating through other resorts and water parks — a costly endeavor to be sure. In fact, right now, the only form of free transportation Disney offers to reach the park is the bus system. Disney Bus Magic Kingdom faces similar hurdles. Located at the northern end of Disney World, it does have a closer proximity to EPCOT (and is connected by Monorail), but it’s already impeded by so much established infrastructure that fills up the space between the parks and other resorts. It would take a massive amount of construction effort (and money) to weave between everything — which feels unnecessary when the Monorail already exists. The Monorail at EPCOT The Monorail itself serves as a historical precedent when it comes to Disney World transportation. It has yet to be expanded since EPCOT opened in 1982 due to infrastructure constraints and cost fallout. Multiple parks and resorts later, the Monorail has been left alone. There’s no reason to feel the Skyliner will be any different. Monorail at EPCOT We also recognize that the weather isn’t conducive to Skyliner expansion. Weather-related closures continue to plague the Skyliner, and investing more capital into a project that cannot overcome the forces of nature is suspect at best. Central Florida won’t stop having thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, and that’s certainly not Disney’s fault. But you can’t expect them to sink more money into the Skyliner in an effort to combat that reality. Skyliner The Skyliner works as is, and — at the moment — Disney has no reason to fix what isn’t broken. Could the Skyliner still expand? Sure! But it doesn’t look like that will happen in the short term. Would you like to see the Skyliner expand? Would you like to see a new form of transportation? There’s nothing like visiting EPCOT during a festival, and right now, the EPCOT Festival of the Arts is in full swing through February 23rd. Bambi topiary However, the next festival, the EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival, begins on March 4th and runs through June 1st. Although we’re still a little less than a month away, though, EPCOT is already preparing for that festival. Yes, that means we’re starting to see the EPCOT Flower & Garden festival topiaries beginning to pop up WAY early. Disney just recently dropped some details about the gardens and topiaries coming to this year’s festival, but now we’re starting to see those topiaries early. The first topiary we noticed was the Bambi topiary, which features Bambi, Flower, and Thumper. You can see this topiary near the Canada Pavilion. Bambi and friends We also spotted a Phineas and Ferb topiary at World Celebration. Other topiaries you’ll see this year include characters from Toy Story, Mike & Sulley, Figment, characters from Encanto, characters from The Lion King, Mickey and friends, Lightning McQueen and Mater, Groot, and more. Groot Topiary in 2024 In addition to the topiaries, you’ll also be able to visit some gardens, including four NEW gardens: Plut’s Pet-Friendly Garden, Wildlife Crossing Garden, Trendy Tropicals Garden, and Rain or Shine Fruit Stand Presented by Outshine. Each year, Orlando International Airport (MCO) sees millions of visitors, many of whom are filtering through to visit Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, and other Central Florida tourist attractions. Baggage claim! However, many of those travelers believe things about the airport that have no basis in truth. “You Don’t Need to Book a Security Line” Sure, you CAN arrive at MCO without booking a time to go through security, but expect a decent-sized wait, especially during busier seasons. Or instead, you can use the MCO Reserve System. Powered by CLEAR, the system allows you to skip the lines for free at a pre-appointed time. TSA lines at MCO MCO Reserve is open from 5:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and if your flight is set to depart between 6:30 AM and 8:30 PM, you are eligible to use this service. You’re Making 3 BIG Mistakes at the Orlando Airport “All the Terminals are the Same” There are some big differences between MCO’s three terminals: A, B, and C. The terminals aren’t connected, and each features its own security lines. In other words, the last thing you want to do is go all the way through security…only to end up in the wrong terminal and have to go through the process all over again to make it to the right one. Terminal C at Orlando International Airport This is why it’s integral to make sure to check which terminal — A, B, or C — is your flight’s location. The New Rules You HAVE To Follow at Terminal C In the Orlando Airport “There’s Nothing to Eat” MCO offers a litany of food options across its terminals, including Wine Bar George, Provisions by Cask & Larder, Sunshine Diner by Chef Art Smith, Orange County Brewers, Cask & Larder Public House, Barnie’s Coffee & Tea Co., Cucina & Co., Orlando Brewing Bar & Bites., Chipotle, Outback Steakhouse, Wendy’s, and Nathan’s among others. Certainly not your grandpa’s airport food. Wine Bar George On top of that, the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) recently approved another expansion of Phase 2 under the MCO Concession Master Plan, which will bring more than 40 new retail and dining locations to Orlando International Airport. Where to Eat at the Orlando International Airport “You Can’t Find Last Minute Souvenirs” Whether you’ve forgotten that one gift you need to buy or simply want to pick up one final goodie for yourself, both Disney and Universal have full stores at MCO. Orlando International Airport’s Terminal C In our experience, the prices have been about the same as we’ve seen at the souvenir shops at Disney World and Universal Orlando, but be warned — there isn’t as much variety! Your Disney World Packing List Could Get You Stopped by Security Next time you find yourself scheduled to fly through MCO, be sure to keep these important truths about the airport in mind to keep your experience running as smoothly as possible. Stay tuned to DFB for further Florida travel tips. Sorry, But You’re Doing the Orlando Airport All Wrong Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Over the past several months, Southwest Airlines has implemented some pretty controversial changes — including assigned seating. ©Southwest Airlines For decades, Southwest Airlines was a go-to airline for so many travelers because you didn’t pick a seat. Instead, if you didn’t have any special perks, you joined a boarding position queue and hoped for a good group. From there, you picked an open seat you like and grabbed overhead space where available. It was a well-liked system among Southwest patrons that OFFICIALLY ENDED on January 27th, 2026, when Southwest rolled out mandatory assigned seating. The new seating policy has now completely changed how we fly with Southwest. If you plan on flying with the popular airline again, there are a few REALLY important things you need to know before you select seats. Rule #1: Assigned Seating Does NOT Mean You Can Ignore Boarding Order In the days of yore, Southwest boarding was assigned into groups A, B, and C (with special boarding for groups like families with young children), with a specific number (1 through 30 or 31 through 60). Checking in as soon as possible or purchasing early boarding privileges was critical to securing a great boarding spot. With the new assigned seating rule, you might assume that boarding is much less of a priority. This is the biggest misconception we’re already seeing. Goodbye boarding numbers While Southwest now lets you choose a specific seat, your boarding group still matters because overhead bin space is still first-come, first-served. Remember, families, pre-boarders, and elite flyers will still get on earlier, and late boarding could still result in you needing to check your bags at the gate if the flight is already full. Southwest Airlines at John Wayne International Airport If you care about keeping your carry-on with you, boarding position still counts. The seat selection certainly helps, but boarding order will still affect your entire experience. Rule #2: Not All Seats Are Created Equal Along with the new seating policy, Southwest has modified its planes to create a hierarchy of comfort. ©Southwest Southwest now offers Preferred Seats (front rows, aisle/window combos), Extra-legroom Seats (especially in exit rows), and premium, upgradable seats in “better” locations on the plane. These seats aren’t free, and look like offerings at other airlines. Premium Seating on ©Southwest Airlines If you don’t pay attention while booking, you could easily end up paying more than you expected or being stuck in a middle seat. It’s a good idea to open the seat map before checkout. If the price jump is minimal, grabbing a better seat early can save a LOT of regret. If you don’t care, make sure you’re opting for the cheapest choice. Rule #3: Get Familiar with the NEW Family Seating Southwest used to be a favorite airline for families because boarding together gave you a FANTASTIC shot of sitting together. Those days are gone, though, and assigned seating has complicated family seating. ©Southwest Airlines Seats may sell individually, and not in blocks, so you may have to split up. Additionally, waiting too long to book could scatter your group across rows. If you’re traveling with a group, you’ll want to book a little earlier than normal just so you have your pick of the litter. The “We’ll figure it out on the plane” strategy is no longer a safe plan. ©Southwest Airlines Assigned seating on Southwest sounds simple, but it quietly changed everything — from pricing to boarding strategy to family travel to even how early you need to book. The airline clearly requires a bit of extra planning these days. We’ll be trying out new tricks and discovering all the latest air travel hacks, so keep it posted right here at DFB to stay in the know! 3 Perks to the Controversial Seating Changes on Southwest Airlines DON'T DO IT ALONE! Mardi Gras season has returned to Universal Orlando, and the event continues to highlight a festive New Orleans-inspired atmosphere with its bead-bearing parade, concerts and international foods. Fresh additions to the event — its formal full name is Universal Mardi Gras: International Flavors of Carnaval — are playing into that vibe, including new menu items, floats and the introduction of reptile royalty. Prince Gator, a gold and green, big-bead-wearing, crowned character, is now available for visitor interactions. He is stationed near the park’s Pantages Theater (home of the Horror Make-Up Show), beneath a curved structure that Universal refers to as the Hollywood Wave. Kelly Malik, show director at Universal Orlando, introduces the Prince Gator character to members of the media at an event on the first night of Universal's Mardi Gras celebration for 2026. (Dewayne Bevil/Orlando Sentinel) “A couple of years ago, he was designed and brought in as a popcorn bucket. Then he was made into a plush, and then we said, Why not add to our animated family?” said Kelly Malik, show director, entertainment development. “We got to bring another party animal to a mix for Mardi Gras.” Like Earl the Squirrel, Universal Orlando’s home-grown holiday character, Prince, poses for photos and signs autographs, Malik said. And he has some backstory. “He also is donning a set of traditional beads that was passed down by his dad, none other than King Gator from our parade,” Malik said. Yep, the extra-long float representing Prince’s pop brings up the rear of the nightly parade again. The year’s theme, particularly with new floats, is tied to the city of New Orleans. “It’s as if we took New Orleans and Mardi Gras from New Orleans and put it right into our parade,” Malik said. “You’re going to be a part of it. You’re going to see all the lights, all of the spectacle, of the audio, the lighting, the high-energy performers,” she said. “It’s all going to be right in front of you.” Elements of NOLA presented via float include the food, doubloons, music and the bayou. This is in contrast to themes found in previous years on half of the floats, such as sea creatures and literary styles. This year’s approach could be considered more seamless. On opening weekend, a couple of floats had no bead-tossing passengers, making for eerily abandoned units. Universal officials referred to it as a “modified” experience. By early this week, the floats were fully occupied. The parade route still is populated with costumed stilt walkers and dancers in familiar looks, although there may be more birds and critters incorporated. That was a raccoon on their head, right? Familiar fare such as po’ boys and king cakes are again on the streets of the theme park, too. “This year they really wanted to elevate the experience with a lot of live-fire cooking,” said Jens Dahlmann, vice president, executive chef of operations. “That’s something I’m very passionate about because it really creates those multisensory experiences on the streets.” Visitors can see food on grills at the kiosks devoted to the fare of Puerto Rico, Brazil, Jamaica and Chile, where there’s salmon cooking over an open fire. “It’s freshest, quality ingredients coming right to us from Patagonia, kissed by fire and smoke,” Dahlmann said. “It is signature style food on the streets of the Studios here.” Universal Studios employees operate a Brazil-based kiosk during the Mardi Gras celebration at the theme park. (Dewayne Bevil/Orlando Sentinel) Pinchos de lechon, the top seller from the 2025 festival, is back at the Puerto Rico kiosk, and it’s joined by coconut flancocho, a dessert selected in a contest among Universal chefs. “So, flancocho means there’s flan, and there’s cake. Together, it’s even better,” Dahlmann said. “You’re going to see a little coquin right on top there. … So, very, very cute,” he said. Universal’s Mardi Gras festivities run daily through April 4. They are included with regular Universal Studios admission. The next concerts in the event are Portugal. The Man (“Feel It Still”) on Saturday and Puerto Rican reggaeton star Ivy Queen on Sunday. News and notes • There’s been a change in Universal’s Mardi Gras schedule. Ziggy Marley will now be in concert on March 7, replacing the originally announced Shaggy. • Volcano Bay, Universal Orlando’s water park, is going cashless as of Feb. 25. The attraction will only accept credit cards, debit cards, gift cards or Universal Pay for purchases. Cash-to-card kiosks will be available. • Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, the roller coaster under construction at Universal Studios Hollywood, will open this summer. This is not to be confused with Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, the roller coaster under construction at Universal Studios Florida, which is set to open sometime in 2027. • Aquatica, SeaWorld Orlando’s water park, is planning springtime enhancements, including a fourth toll booth, upgraded shade structures (including more umbrellas), expanded mobile food ordering, fresh paint jobs and a reimagined Ke-re’s Bar. Price tag: “Several million dollars,” says park president Bradley Gilmour. • Brevard Zoo is adding Colobus monkeys, including two sisters (Naia and Zuba) who came from the Nashville Zoo at Grassmere. A male is also expected in the coming weeks. dbevil@orlandosentinel.com View the full article
