  1. Ciao friends! And welcome back to the 2019 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival! 2019 Epcot Food and Wine Festival As you may know, this is one of our favorite times of year at Epcot! There is just so much to do and eat — from tasting your way around the Festival Kiosks to attending special events. So far this year we’ve enjoyed several — such as the Mix It! Make It! Celebrate It! Workshop and the Parisian Breakfast. And now we’re headed to one of our favorite pavilions for the Italian Food, Wine vs. Beer Pairing Event! The Italian Food, Wine vs. Beer Pairing Event takes place select Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1:30pm at Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria. Via Napoli The event is a five-course Italian meal — where each course is paired with samples of both hand-selected Italian wine AND beer. We’ve attended this event in the past and enjoyed ourselves, and were excited to see what was in store for us this year! We checked in at the podium and were escorted to the indoor porch, which had been sectioned off for the event. (The rest of the restaurant is still running as usual.) Italian Sangria As we checked-in, a Cast Member handed us a glass of Italian Sangria. It was light and refreshing and a perfect way to kick off the event. At the table, you’ll notice that each table setting has 10 (!!!) small glasses for the wine and beer samples, a water glass, cutlery, and a menu of the yumminess coming your way. It’s also important to note, this is a family-style meal so smaller parties may be seated with other small parties. But don’t fret — it’s fun to chat with folks about Disney (especially when the wine and beer start flowing). Place Setting Also set out were individual plates of Italian bread and communal plates of olive oil. But as tempting as it is — try not to fill up! You’ve got 5 courses coming your way. (But if you can’t resist (guilty), it’s good to note Cast Members come by and offer you additional bread throughout the meal.) Italian Bread After everyone got settled, we were welcomed by a Via Napoli manager. He laid out how the meal would work — before each course he would explain the carefully crafted dish including ingredients and backstory. Via Napoli Manager Additionally, a beer expert would explain her choice for each course. Italian Beer Expert And an Italian Sommelier would tell us about the chosen wine! Italian Sommelier The two ladies ended up being very knowledgeable and entertaining — not only did they explain the flavors and key elements of each drink, but they had a fun back-and-forth about which beverage is better. We really enjoyed the fun atmosphere that these two Cast Members encouraged! After introductions, it was time for our first course: Grilled Octopus with a Potato Cake, Roasted Cherry Tomatoes, and Gremolata. Course 1: Grilled Octopus The manager explained that Naples, Italy (where Via Napoli gets its namesake and cooking style), is not only known for pizza, but for seafood because of the close proximity to the water. It is customary for local fisherman to catch whatever is freshest and in season, and then for locals to serve it to guests as a welcome. The Octopus dish was paired with a sparkling rosé, as well as a light Italian beer called ViaEmilia. Course 1: Grilled Octopus, Sparkling Rosé and Light Beer We were a little apprehensive about starting the meal with tentacles, but as soon as the manager explained the accompanying potato cake was made with fresh Parmesan, we were on board. Course 1: Inside of Potato Cake Honestly, this was DELICIOUS. The Octopus was light and fresh — not at all fishy as we expected. It also wasn’t overwhelmingly chewy, and we didn’t even notice the suckers on their way down. (This thing’s bark is worse than its bite.) And the potato cake was obviously amazing — potatoes + fresh Italian cheese? Yes, please. We also really enjoyed the simple roasted cherry tomatoes as they added a brightness and subtle sweetness to the appetizer. Honestly, a bite of all three components was absolutely perfect. Color us surprised at how much we enjoyed this version of octopus! Course 1: Sparkling Wine Bottle In this round, our table preferred the Sparkling wine to the beer. Don’t get us wrong — we liked the beer a lot! It was light and crisp, and more flavorful than most domestic light beers. Call us basic, but the slightly sweet, slightly dry, very bubbly pink wine couldn’t be topped. At this point, we should note that during each course servers walked around offering to top off that round’s wine or beer, should you find one you’re particularly fond of. And water, which is very important. But this is the fun of the event — to try multiple beverages and figure out which one is the winner for you during each course! After folks were done with course 1 and their dishes were cleared, the Via Napoli team came out again to introduce the next round. It was time for their signature dish: PIZZA! Course 2: Pizza Margherita The Manager explained that Via Napoli does their darndest to make pizza just like you’d get in Naples. They import as many ingredients as possible from Italy — including the flour, tomatoes, and cheese. (The Sommelier also told me the water is imported from somewhere in Pennsylvania because it has the closest water PH to Italy. Now THAT is dedication.) The pizza we’d be having today was an iconic choice — the Pizza Margherita. Simple and perfect, this pie is made with buffalo mozzarella, San Marzano tomatoes, fresh basil, and Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Course 2: Pizza Margherita, Wine, and Beer We loved this pizza! Which is probably a good thing because it’s Via Napoli’s claim to fame. The simple flavor combination was perfect — with the gooey pockets of Italian cheese being a highlight. This round’s beer was one of Italy’s most popular and ubiquitous, Peroni. It was heavier than the first beer, but still light enough to pair perfectly with the pizza. The wine was a red blend, which tasted much lighter than it looked. It too, had more bite than the previous drink but wasn’t overwhelming when it came to enjoying it with the ‘Za. Course 2: Wine and Beer Selections As we finished up with course 2, we decided this round’s winner was the beer. As Jessyca the Beer Manager pointed out, when it comes to pizza — people want beer! We moved right along into Course 3, Italy’s other specialty — PASTA! Course 3: Pasta with Sausage Ragu, Meatballs, and Ribs This time, we were told about big Italian Sunday dinners, when families come together to share a meal. Usually, the meal is a little of this, a little of that — which is what we were served! Course 3 was Paccheri Pasta, Beef Meatballs, Pork Ribs, and a Sausage Ragu Sauce. Course 3: Pasta with Sausage Ragu, Meatballs, and Ribs Not to be dramatic, but we want to fall into a vat of this sauce. It was so perfectly balanced with fresh Italian herbs and spices. The pasta was a perfect al dente, and the big noodles were just right for the Ragu. Plus the big shaves of cheese were divine. The ribs were literally fall-off-the-bone tender (seriously, we picked it up and the meat fell off!). And the meatballs? Ah the meatballs! Moist and flavorful — dare we say this was our favorite course! For Round 3, we were given Moretti La Rossa Beer and a Primitivo Red Wine. Both were darker than previous courses in order to stand up to the beef. But yet, they were still light enough to not overpower the pork or noodles. Course 3: Wine and Beer For our group, this round went to Wine. When eating a heavier course (read: three kinds of meat), We prefer a drink that’s not as filling as beer. That said, it was continuously fun to see how the wines and beers were carefully chosen to reflect the ingredients. Can’t fill up now — course 4 is on the way! With course 3 being the heaviest course, it was time to start winding down. Therefore the next selection was a Cheese Plate! Course 4: Course Platter From left to right, we were presented with an aged Parmesan and Honeycomb, Gorgonzola and Tomato Chutney, and Provolone with Grapes. We were also given Grissini (crunchy Italian bread-sticks) to use with the cheeses. But pro tip: use that Italian bread we told you about earlier instead! It’s a much easier surface to pile on cheese and toppings. All three kinds of cheese were delightful — with the Gorgonzola being our personal fave. It was lighter than an average blue cheese, but stronger than the provolone or Parmesan on the plate. No matter what you enjoy, this dish encourages you to mix and match ingredients and flavor combinations! Course 4: Cheese Platter, Wine, and Beer To go with the cheese platter, we were given another Red Blend as well as a Super “Floreale” beer. Both were very fruit-forward, which makes sense considering they were paired with cheese! Course 4: Wine and Beer Color us surprised for the second time this meal, but we liked the beer more than the wine with the cheese! This was collectively our favorite beer of the day, and we were told it’s a Belgian Style Ale. (But still made in Italy of course.) Course 4: Super Floreale Beer And now we come to the last course: DESSERT! Course 5: Dessert The last course was a Baked Doughnut topped with powdered sugar and filled with cream, and topped with an Amarena cherry. Course 5: Dessert with Beer and Wine The donut was the perfect dessert to close out our meal. It was a wonderful balance of rich and light — and wasn’t overwhelmingly heavy after a four-course meal. Course 5: Donut Cross Section The cream was fresh and tasted homemade. The pastry was flaky, yet it held up well to the cream filling. Overall, the dessert was the perfect sweet (but not too sweet) way to end the meal. Course 5: Wine and Beer For our last round beverages, we received a Baladin Leon Beer and a sweet Moscato Wine. This time Laura, the Sommelier, was the cheeky one — she said her grandmother would roll in her grave at the thought of beer with dessert! We have to say we agreed — the sweet wine (the only white wine of the day) was a perfect compliment to the donut. Perhaps we were full, but the beer just seemed too heavy with the donut, though we did love the notes of caramel. Menu As a close, we were encouraged to bring our menus with us — which we certainly did! We can’t wait to look for some of these wines at our local stores. Though I have a feeling, our home cooking won’t be quite as good. As we left Via Napoli, we were handed little containers of freshly baked Italian cookies as a fun takeaway. Italian Cookies Overall, this was a very leisurely and delicious experience. All in all, the meal took about 3 hours, so if you have limited time at the Food and Wine Festival, this may not be the best Special Event for you. At $99 per person, it’s not an inexpensive meal by any means. But when you factor in that it’s an entire experience — complete with 5 very delicious courses and solid pours of wine and beer throughout — it’s a pretty decent value. We learned a lot about wine, beer, and Italian culture, enjoyed some delectable dishes (we’re still stunned by the octopus), and found new favorite drinks for our next visit to the Italian pavilion. If you’re a big fan of Italian cuisine, want to learn more about wine or beer, or are looking for to try something different this year at Food and Wine, this event is certainly one you should consider during Epcot’s Festival! The Secret ‘Ohana Menu Items at Tambu Lounge We’re charting a course to our favorite South Seas oasis for our last secret menu! And it’s a BIG ONE! Tambu Lounge We’ve been privy to this secret stash of ‘Ohana foodstuff for some time, but for you newbies to the secret menu game, we can’t think of a better way for you to get your toes wet! ‘Ohana Whether you’ve ever had the full ‘Ohana experience or not, this island-themed restaurant of unlimited eats is a total foodie paradise at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort! But while the flavors are out of this world, dinner at this place can set you back quite a bit — enough to give us indigestion! That’s why we’ve learned how to circumvent eating at ‘Ohana at times by hacking our way into their secret menu mainframe at Tambu Lounge! Behold! Prepare yourself for the seemingly endless bounty of tastiness we’ve scored over at Tambu Lounge!! First up, how bout these ‘Ohana sticky wings you won’t find PRINTED on the Tambu Lounge menu…but you can still order? ‘Ohana Sticky Wings Or what about their tasty Pork Dumplings tossed in Garlic-Ginger Sauce, served with Peanut and Sweet-n-Sour Sauces?! So good! ‘Ohana Potstickers But that ain’t all, folks! Fortune favors the BOLD and just recently we even had ‘Ohana coconut-pineapple bread — without ever stepping foot inside ‘Ohana! ‘Ohana Bread One of our biggest secret menu brags of all time? This bowl of ‘Ohana’s Teriyaki Noodles for ONLY $5! Yup — FIVE BUCKS! Is this much fun even legal? We sure hope so, because if $5 noods is wrong, we don’t wanna be right! ‘Ohana Noodles Considering a dinner at ‘Ohana normally costs between $35-$60 a person, you can save a lot of dough by eating your ‘Ohana chow on the cheaper side at Tambu Lounge instead! On the downside, you won’t have unlimited chow like you would at ‘Ohana, but hey, we’ve made our bed of $5 noodles and now we’re going to lay in ’em! ‘Ohana Noodles We’re still FILLED with ‘Ohana secrets — and we’re not done spilling them yet! The Mixed Grill Kebab that IS on the menu at Tambu Lounge is, in fact, the EXACT SAME chicken, beef, and shrimp they servin’ up at ‘Ohana, flame-seared to delicious perfection! Mixed Grill Kebab And we saved the best secret for last — the ‘Ohana bread pudding! It is ONE of THE BEST, if not the best, dessert on Disney property! We’re truly obsessed with it, but don’t necessarily want the time and expense of dining at ‘Ohana every time we want its warm caramel and banana sauce (which is often!). ‘Ohana Bread Pudding Sooo once again Tambu Lounge for the win! That’s a total of SIX secret ‘Ohana menu items — just in case you’d lost count! How To Get It: You can order several of ‘Ohana’s signature eats after 4PM from any of the awesome bartenders at Tambu Lounge because it shares its kitchen with ‘Ohana! You won’t find many of the items on Tambu Lounge’s menus, but all you gotta do is ask! Take this, our gift of secret ‘Ohana food knowledge, and go forth! Impress your friends! You may even find you have a lot MORE friends now that you’re such a secret menu pro! Read more about our secret menu favs at Tambu Lounge! The next time you’re visiting one of the Disney theme parks, try ordering some of these top-secret menu items! Or even try to uncover some of your own! You won’t need any fancy passwords — just the courage to ask in most cases! And remember, there are PLENTY MORE where those came from! 7. Cheerio! And warm tidings from Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. We’ve had SO many reader requests for a re-review of this fun offering! Far be it from us to deny that desire! Welcome to the Grand Floridian! There are so many foodie things we love about this resort, like the Chicken and Waffles at the Grand Floridian Cafe or the all-new Beauty and the Beast themed lounge, Enchanted Rose (check out our full review HERE!). Enchanted Rose Lounge But recently we decided it was time for a spot of tea, so we stopped in to the Garden View Tea Room! The Garden View Tea Room primarily offers two experiences: Afternoon Tea and the Perfectly Princess Tea Party. Grand Floridan Tea Sign The Afternoon Tea, which is what we attended, is currently available daily from 12pm-4pm. Advance Reservations are HIGHLY recommended as this is a very popular experience! Atmosphere Tea Time begins by checking into the Garden View Lounge, located at the back of the first-floor lobby. The Garden View Lounge Notice the gorgeous tile work outside the lounge — fitting, wouldn’t you say? Tile Floor Hi there, Chip! Tile Floor Though you’re inside for Afternoon Tea, there are design elements in the Garden View Lounge that are reminiscent of an outdoor garden — such as the latticework fencing that also serves as a privacy wall between you and the main lobby. Grand Floridian Fence There are large mirrors on either side of the room, both seemingly handpainted with Floridian nature scenes. Mirror Mirror There are huge windows along one side of the Lounge, which allow you to see outside into the gorgeous Grand Floridian gardens. Garden View Windows Overall, the space is rather small and somewhat simple, but still feels elegant! Garden View Tea Room Upon being seated, our table was arranged with lovely rose-patterned teacups… Tea Cup …and a matching sugar bowl. Sugar Bowl Upon closer inspection, we discovered the Sugar Bowl contained both white and raw sugar cubes for our tea! Sugar Cubes Our server provided a menu, and now it was time for tea! Menu Eats There are several different packages to select from when attending Afternoon Tea. Menu (Click to Enlarge) The Bedfordshire Tea ($35) is the classic package and contains a pot of tea of your choice, tea sandwiches, a scone with accompaniments, and your choice of dessert. The Cheshire Tea ($50) includes everything from the Bedfordshire Tea, in addition to a cheese and fruit plate. And the Berkshire Package ($150) is designed for two to share and includes caviar in addition to the Bedfordshire Tea selections. If you want to feel even fancier, Champagne can be added to any package! Each package (besides the Berkshire) is per person — and sharing is not allowed. (What happens if you share? We don’t know. We didn’t try. Maybe you go to Disney jail?) You are also not able to come in and just order a la carte (a plate of sandwiches, for example). You must purchase the entire package. That said, you are able to add on to the package. So if you decide you want another scone, you can add one for a small fee. There is also the Mrs. Potts Tea ($23.79) available for guests aged 3-9, which includes kid-friendly tea sandwiches, a tart, “tea” (it’s chocolate milk!), and dessert. And sorry but no, it is not served in a teapot that looks like Mrs. Potts! Maybe one day. Menu – Selections We selected the classic Bedfordshire Tea. Upon ordering, you will let your server know which package you’d like as well as which dessert you want. For dessert, you can select a Seasonal English Trifle, Strawberries with Hand-whipped Creme, or a plate of Delicate-House made Pastries. We opted for the House-Made Pastries! You also need to select which tea you’d like — and there are a lot more than three options! All of the teas are Twinings of London, and the lengthy menu is divided by tea varietals. Tea Menu Tea Menu If you aren’t a tea savant, don’t worry! Your server can work with you to decide which one you’ll love! It’s good to note you can take home certain teas in pre-packaged boxes, which would be a great souvenir! Additionally, you can order other beverages such as Draft Beer and Wine, should you care for it. Tea Time! Shortly after placing our order, it was tea time!! Each guest receives a full pot of tea — so if you’re attending with friends we recommend ordering different teas. That way you can share after the first cup! Tea We selected the Enchanting Forest Fruits Black Tea, per my server’s recommendation. She said it was one of the most popular teas thanks to the notes of strawberry, raspberry, and blueberry. It was a delightful brew! Nice and slightly sweet, it didn’t need any cream or sugar. One of the cutest and most iconic things at the Tea is the Tea Cozy! Our Server brought them to keep our teapots warm throughout the meal. Tea Cozy We were also brought out our gorgeous selection of Tea Time goodies! Tea Meal Selections How cute is this tiered plate display?! Let’s take a closer look layer by layer — first up, sandwiches! Each adult receives a platter of 6 tea sandwiches…or half sandwiches, ’cause some of ’em didn’t have top bread pieces. Sandwich Plate For starters, there’s a classic cucumber with boursin cheese. This one was light and refreshing, with the crisp, fresh cucumber! Cucumber Sandwich Next, we sampled the Traditional Egg Salad. Honestly, this was some of the best egg salad we’ve ever had! Light and creamy, it was served open-faced on white bread. Egg Salad Sandwich Keeping things fancy, we moved on to the Poached Pear and Gorgonzola Cream Cheese Sandwich. Our server let us know the Pears are poached in a blend of red and white wines, which we are totally here for. This one surprised us! We loved the crunch from the fresh pear, and it was balanced nicely with the Gorgonzola. Poached Pear Sandwich Next, we tried the Sweet Curry Chicken Sandwich. This is the only sandwich we had served with two pieces of bread, and it’s made with coconut, golden raisins, mango chutney, and a Madras curry powder. This one was FABULOUS — we loved the curry flavor and the subtle sweetness from the coconut and raisins. We’ve were told this is a lot of people’s favorite sandwich, and we can see why! Chicken Salad Sandwich The last sandwich on the plate was the Fire-Roasted Tomato and Oregano Goat Cheese. This was our personal favorite sandwich of the day — you could taste the fire on the tomatoes, and the goat cheese was smooth and flavorful. Fire Roasted Tomato and Goat Cheese Sandwich and Onion Tart Rounding out the plate, was the Sweet Caramelized Onion Tartlet. This lil’ guy was a bite of happiness! The flaky crust plus the sweet onions were a winning combo! TBH we could’ve eaten about 20 of these… . Sweet Caramelized Onion Tart The great news about the sandwiches is that you can swap out for whatever you fancy! If you prefer to have six of the cucumber sandwiches, go for it! You want a peanut butter and jelly off the kids’ tea menu instead of the Chicken Salad, do your thing! This is YOUR tea, and the Cast Members at the Grand will make sure you enjoy it! Following the sandwiches, we investigated the Scone plate. Scone Plate This course features a Golden Raisin Scone and Strawberry Jam Tart. They are accompanied by Lemon Curd, Devonshire (Clotted) Cream, and Strawberry Jam. Scone Accompaniments This round is really a choose your own adventure tale! You can mix and match the scone and tart with the toppings however you’d like. We opted to cut the scone in half and slather on the strawberry jam and clotted cream. Scone with Toppings This was AH-mazing! The scone was perfectly baked, and the combination of the sweet cream and jam was well…our jam (Had to!). It was a very fresh, naturally sweet flavor overall. Strawberry Tart with Lemon Curd We also topped the Strawberry Tart with the Lemon Curd to get a Strawberry Lemonade thing goin’ on. (We can’t take credit for this genius idea; our server totally suggested it.) But let us tell you — this was 100% the way to go. It was tart and sweet and flaky and we would gladly have eaten many more. But tea isn’t over yet! Onto course 3…Dessert! (Wait, wasn’t the last course dessert?! Kinda, yea. But just embrace it.) Dessert Plate The Delicate House-made Dessert Plate consisted of a Dark Chocolate Covered Strawberry, Milk Chocolate-Caramel Mousse Filled Swan, and two Macarons: Coffee and Pistachio. Macarons We sampled the Macarons first — which were, of course, perfect. All of the desserts are hand-made and selected by the Grand Floridian Pastry Team, and they’re excellent. Both flavors had smooth, creamy filling with a crunchy yet soft cookie. Our team voted for the Pistachio as the winner. Next up, the Dark Chocolate Covered Strawberry. Dessert Tray There isn’t much to note about this one considering how simple it is — other than it was very tasty with a big, fresh strawberry. Sometimes simple is still the winner! Lastly, we broke into the Swan! Swan On our visit, it was filled with a Milk Chocolate Caramel Filling, but our server told us that the Pastry Chefs change the flavor frequently. Swan Filling The filling was SO GOOD. It was rich but not overwhelming; and the pastry isn’t overly sweet, which balances out the creamy mousse. This was the winner of the whole dessert tray for sure. But our dessert wasn’t over yet!! Because our tea time was towards the end of the afternoon, our server asked us if we wanted some extra sweets. UM YES. The answer is always YES. Fall Seasonal Trifle She brought us over the Seasonal Trifle, which is currently a Fall Seasonal Flavor made with cranberry compote, cinnamon cake, pumpkin mousse, and topped with whipped creme. Fall Seasonal Trifle This tasted like fall in a bowl! The sweet pumpkin was balanced with the tart cranberry, but the cinnamon cake was the real winner here. It was light and moist — but honestly, we STILL preferred the other dessert tray over this (color us SHOCKED, cause we love pumpkin!). Fall Seasonal Trifle We were also able to try the Fresh Strawberries and Hand-beaten Whipped Creme. Strawberries and Creme We had pretty low expectations for this — it’s just strawberries and creme right?! Strawberries and Creme WRONG. We don’t know what Victorian magic the Grand Floridian Pastry Chefs were doing, but this was lovely. The strawberries were big, plump, and fresh, and you can absolutely tell the whipped creme was hand made. What did we say earlier — sometimes simple is still the best?! Afternoon Tea At the end of our Tea Time, we were full-but-not-too-full (surprising, considering we just downed 3 dessert courses!). It was a marvelous afternoon, sipping on tea and nibbling on finger sandwiches and desserts. Overall The Afternoon Tea at the Grand Floridian is a fabulous way to spend an afternoon in Walt Disney World. This is a great offering that would be a relatively inexpensive way to celebrate a birthday or another special event or even just a nice way to “do something different” during your Disney vacay. While it’s not a huge meal at first glance, we were pleasantly surprised at how much food you get! This could easily be a light lunch for most, and we think $35 is a fair price for all the nibbles, plus a full pot of tea, and a relaxing afternoon. While this may not be an every-day experience, it’s one we look forward to when we’re feeling fancy. For more ways to upgrade your next Disney Vacation, check out this DFB Video! Buuut, we’re here to tell you that whether you’re team ketchup or team mustard, there’s no need to worry ’cause the condiments are here to stay! We decided to investigate to give you guys all the deets, and we are happy to say that the condiments are back again at Casey’s Corner! Condiment Bar at Casey’s Corner The condiment packets (those self-service pumps have been gone-zo for a while now) were only behind the counter because the restaurant was low on inventory. 14. Who said bacon was just a part of breakfast? Chocolate Covered Bacon Not Disney World! We’ve spotted the Tower of Bacon and even chocolate-covered bacon (!!!), and now we’re trying a boozy bacon beverage too! The new Star Hill Sipper has arrived at The Edison in Disney Springs (and it is AH-MAZING)! The Edison’s Menu Candied walnut and bacon-infused Maker’s Mark bourbon is mixed with black walnut bitters and topped with candied bacon. Star Hill Sipper And, oh yeah — they set the bacon ON FIYAAHH! Flaming Bacon! This drink was seriously delicious, you guys. While there were some subtle maple notes to the Star Hill Sipper, the taste was really smoky (probably because of the flaming bacon tbh). It was very similar to a classic old fashioned but had that slightly sweet, smoky flavor that made the drink unique. Star Hill Sipper You can get the Star Hill Sipper for $15 at The Edison (and it is #worthit)! Have you tried the latest boozy bacon beverage yet? Let us know in the comments below! 20. If you’ve been following our 2019 Epcot Food and Wine Festival coverage, then you may already know that there are currently over 30 food booths throughout Epcot right now that are cranking out some totally yum-worthy eats and drinks! Epcot Food and Wine Festival With SO MUCH to choose from, how do you decide what you’ll be noshing on? How about checking out some of the trendiest sips and bites at this year’s Fest?? Not sure what those items are? Well, allow us to give you the rundown of what hottest food trends are happening at this year’s Food & Wine extravaganza! (If you’d rather just peruse ALL the menus and food photos for this year’s Epcot Food and Wine Festival, Click HERE!) It seems like the 2019 Epcot Food and Wine Festival has inducted more trendy eats than ever before! Grab your phones for those Insta pics and get those hashtags ready! There’s a lot of ground to cover, so let’s get started! Warm Raclette Swiss Cheese What’s On Trend? New to the festival this year, The Alps is serving up Swiss-inspired delights like the uber-popular Warm Raclette Cheese! This mild cheese’s name comes from the French word ‘racler’ which means “to scrape.” Warm Raclette Swiss Cheese Wheels of the cheese are cut in half then melted along the top. The soft gooey cheese is typically scraped off tableside with a long knife right on top of meats, veggies — anything deserving of a bath in hot cheese! And right now, it’s SUPER trendy. There are even whole restaurants dedicated to wheels of this epic cheese! Warm Raclette Swiss Cheese Why You’ve Gotta Have It Over at The Alps booth, the cheese is melted-to-order before being scraped over baby potatoes, slices of baguette, and little pickled gherkins! Grab a quick video of it being prepared to share with your jelly friends back home! This gooey, cheesy goodness is definitely a new Food and Wine favorite for us that we just can’t seem to get enough of! It’s our newest BFF for $5! Frothy Ramen What’s On Trend? When we were first introduced to the Frothy Ramen Noodles at the Japan booth, we thought…well, this looks interesting. Savory foam on the top of noodles isn’t for everyone! But frothy or “bubble” ramen, known as awa-kei ramen, is gaining a lot of popularity over in Japan! The soup is typically frothed up much like the foam on your favorite latte! It’s a fun, unique take on ramen and Disney jumped on the trend! Frothy Ramen Noodles at the Epcot Food and Wine Festival Japan Booth Why You’ve Gotta Have It Disney World loves a good excuse to put foam on foods, so this was a match made in heaven! These noodles are served chilled with an umami-rich dashi broth. The foam is a separate topping on the ramen, not created from the broth, but it makes for a fun new way to slurp your noodles! For $6, it’s a polarizing dish at the festival this year, but certainly a cool food to say you sampled on your trip around the (Disney) World!! IMPOSSIBLE Slider What’s On Trend? In the past few years, we’ve seen a HUGE trend emerge focusing on reducing our dependence on consuming meat. IMPOSSIBLE plant-based meat substitute is one of the big league players at the forefront (and surprise — it actually tastes good!). Major fast-food chains are now offering IMPOSSIBLE versions of their best-selling meat options (FYI, Burger King basically bought a huge portion of the supply earlier this year and forced other restaurants to change their menus as a result, so…yeah…it’s popular.) And the soy protein product is even being sold in most grocery stores in the ACTUAL meat section instead of the desolated corner of the freezer section previously reserved for meat substitutes. The IMPOSSIBLE Burger Slider Why You’ve Gotta Have It If you haven’t jumped on the bandwagon yet, try the IMPOSSIBLE Slider $5.25 at the Earth Eats booth to see what all the noise is about! This juicy “burger” is surprisingly similar to the real deal (but meat-lovers still may not feel like it’s a complete replacement)! It’s served with a spicy slaw and wasabi cream, giving it some cool crunch as well as a bit of a kick! Frozen Rosé (Frosé) What’s On Trend? Back at our totally trendy friend, The Alps booth, they have a frozen Cave De La Côte Rosé de Gamay Romand! It’s basically a Rosé Slushy! We’re not really sure who’s responsible for making Frosé a thing, but, yeah, it’s a THING…and has been for a while. Rosé has basically become synonymous with summertime relaxation — and hangin’ out with buds! Frozen Rose Why You’ve Gotta Have It Usually, we like to Rosé all day around the pool, but enjoying one at the Food and Wine fest this year sounds even better! And bonus — this version is in slushy form! It’s still HOT over in Florida, even if the rest of the country is starting to cool off for Fall, so this is a refreshing way to “rosé all day!” Grab yours for $9! And make sure you post a few pics of yourself sippin’ it with your Rose Gold Minnie Ears, for good measure! Donut Strawberry Smoothie What’s On Trend? Check out the $5 Strawberry Smoothie that Donut Box is serving up!! And holy smokes…does it have a DONUT just chillin’ out on top? YUP! This smoothie reminds us of a baby version of the extreme milkshakes we’ve been seeing throughout the parks, but this lil guy is made with almond milk making it…different? The red and white swirled straws they’re served with give us some retro classic soda shop feels for sure! Strawberry Smoothie Why You’ve Gotta Have It First of all, love the color, and second of all, love the little donut dude! But novelty value aside, the smoothie actually has a great texture and a delicious strawberry flavor! The almond milk is a nice non-dairy substitute (also super trendy) and gives the drink a smoothness without being too rich! Read our full review of the Donut Box booth here! Frozen Coke Free-Style Machine with BOOZE! What’s On Trend? We’re totally obsessed with what’s happening over at Cool Wash! This booth is WAY fun with the little order form you get to fill out when choosing slushy flavors and mix-ins such as Jelly Drops, Boba Pearls, and Pop Rocks?!? But even COOLER?? The Frozen Coke Freestyle-like machine serving up customized Frozen Coke orders with BOOZE! This machine is totally on top of our 2019 Christmas Wish List, guys! You know the amazing Freestyle machines you find at lots of fast-food joints now with seemingly endless flavor options? Yea, it’s that, but for FROZEN coke and your flavor adds in…are booze. Why was this wizardry not something we knew about sooner?! Cool Wash Why You’ve Gotta Have It Sadly you can’t operate the machine yourself (a Cast Member will punch in your order for you), but this is a GAME CHANGER!!! A relatively small cup will cost you $12.00…not the best deal, but it is a cool experience none the less. You can choose from Frozen Coke with added cherry or vanilla flavor as well as Jack Daniels or spiced rum. We haven’t seen this machine before outside the parks, but we expect we will more and more! You can say you knew about it before it was super trendy and cool! Check out our review of Cool Wash here! Barbecue Bloody Mary What’s On Trend? Bloody Marys — you either love ’em or hate ’em. We just so happen to be HUGE fans, especially when they’re LOADED UP! Much like trendy over the top milkshakes, loaded Bloody Marys are quite the Instagram hit! The $16 Refreshment Port Bloody Mary doesn’t disappoint and even has a unique twist! Its delicious secret? It’s bringin’ some serious BBQ drama to the fest! Barbecue Bloody Mary Why You’ve Gotta Have It You already had us at Bloody Mary, but guys, this is a Barbecue Bloody Mary! The salty, tomatoey goodness comes with — get this — a piece of smoked garlic sausage, a house-made pickle, and the cup is rimmed with MUSTARD and a barbecue spice RUB!!! It’ll cost you $16 for this drink/meal in a cup! Sure, it’s EXTRA, but most good things in life are, bb! Duck Confit Poutine What’s On Trend? But that’s not the only thing that’s poppin’ off at Refreshment Port — check out the Duck Confit Poutine! Poutine is super on-trend at Disney World and beyond right now — there’s even a poutine-centric stand in Disney Springs called The Daily Poutine! Cheesy French fries aside, we’ve noticed a big trend recently in the culinary world of taking simple comfort foods and plussing them with high-end ingredients. Think of all the fancy-topped hot dogs, truffle french fries, tater tots, or gourmet topped burgers we’ve seen recently! So taking simple, Canadian comfort food and topping it with delicate confit duck? That’s money, friends! Duck Confit Poutine Why You’ve Gotta Have It The dish is popular in Canada but has spread across the world because who doesn’t love french fries doused in gravy and sprinkled with cheese curds? Then you throw some duck up in the mix, you suddenly got one superstar celebrity on your hands. For $8.49, you won’t find many other ways to enjoy confit duck drenched in ooey-gooey cheese sauce with crispy fried onions on top! Can we get the poutine to sign our autograph books, please? Just don’t let our friend Donald Duck see! Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival is going on now through November 23rd — that’s just a little over a month left to snag some of these food trends before they go out of style (and disappear!) 23. You never know what you’ll find at Wine Bar George in Disney Springs! Wine Bar George Which is probably why we hang out there so often — and try to catch all their latest tasty offerings! On our most recent visit, we discovered Wine Bar George had added some new small plates, entrées, AND had updated their beer and cocktail menu with almost entirely new stuff! First, we’ll examine the Wine Bar George’s latest bar menu! Everything is new except for the American 75, Jorge’s Red Sangria, and the Wake Up Call! (TONS of new tasty mixed drinks, ciders, and beers to choose from!) Wine Bar George Menu And it looks like Wine Bar George has also added a fresh Frisée Salad with seasonal fruit, orange vinaigrette, blue cheese, and walnuts, Shishito Peppers with lime and chipotle seasoning, and Ibérico Pork Pluma with Yukon gold potatoes confit to their small plates menu. New entrées include a Santa Carota Short Ribs and Bell & Evans Chicken Breast, but hold up a sec — wha dat? Saganaki ON FIRE??? Wine Bar George Menu Well, the moment we saw the Saganaki On Fire, we knew what were havin’ for lunch! The new appetizer features a delicious Vlahoriti cheese which your server sprinkles douses with Metaxa and then sets ABLAZE! Saganaki On Fire As the Metaxa burns, our server squeezed fresh lemon juice over the fire which increases the flames! The fire effect would have been much showier and impressive had it been nighttime, but since it was the early afternoon when we stopped by, the flames were barely visible and only last a few seconds. After the alcohol had burned off, it was time to get down to business! Saganaki On Fire The cheese itself was FANTASTIC — wonderfully melty with crispy bits like the ones that get stuck on the sides of the pan when you’re melting something cheesy in the oven (we’re not the only ones who love that, are we?!)! It was served with crostini on the side, just sadly NOT anywhere near enough to enjoy all of its cheesy goodness! But bread to cheese ratio disappointment aside, this Saganaki On Fire was delicious!! Saganaki On Fire But what about bread and melty cheese is there not to like, really? Saganaki On Fire With so many new cocktails to try, it was tough choosing just one! Our server recommended the Citrus Drop of Fife made with Gordon’s Gin, Italicus Rosolio, Gabriel Boudier Pamplemousse Rose, and Lemon! Citrus Drop of Fife This drink was absolutely fantastic. So crisp and refreshing! To us, it tasted a lot like a Lemon Drop but with gin instead of vodka. The lemon gave the drink a nice tartness — it was an excellent recommendation! Citrus Drop of Fife Melty cheese, bread, and a drink? We can honestly say this was one tasty lunch at Wine Bar George! We hope you get the chance to swing by and sample their new menu items for yourself — especially the CHEESE ON FIRE!!! Saganaki On Fire and Citrus Drop of Fife And if you find yourself in Disney Springs today you can join Jean Trimbach and a Master Sommelier George Miliotes for lunch at Wine Bar George — click here to read more about this special event! 24. It’s almost Halloween, and that means there are SO MANY desserts being baked up in Disney World! Beach Club Resort Lobby And, while we might not have a black cauldron, there’s a tasty treat we found bubbling up at this Disney resort! The Witch’s Cupcake is being brewed (and baked!) over at the Beach Club Marketplace and The Market at Ale & Compass at the Beach Club Resort! Witch’s Cupcake The cinnamon apple cupcake is filled with caramel, baked apple, and vanilla buttercream and topped with MORE buttercream, Halloween sprinkles, and a fondant witch’s hat and legs. Witch’s Cupcake Move over, pumpkin spice!! These flavors just might be the new Fall combo everyone’s craving. The cinnamon in the cake was strong, but the spice paired nicely with the buttercream icing. Witch’s Cupcake The caramel at the bottom of the cupcake gave a sweetness to the moist cake that was AH-MAZING!! Although there wasn’t much flavor from the apple, we did taste a few small chunks of the baked apple throughout the treat (but we would have loved more). Witch’s Cupcake Delicious and cute? Disney’s doing it again! You can get your own Witch’s Cupcake for $5.99 or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit before it catches a broom to fly away at the end of the spooky season.
