  2. It’s the most wonderful time of the year! I love the holiday season and everything that comes with it – festive gatherings, beautiful decorations, tasty treats, giving gifts and enjoying quality time with friends and family. While celebrating the spirit of the season, it is easy to get swept up in the excitement of it all but it takes just a moment to keep the environment in mind. Here are tips some of our cast members put into practice and would like to share to help make your holidays eco-friendlier. Deck the halls with LED lights When you deck the halls and your home, do so with energy-efficient LED lights that use 80% less energy than traditional incandescent lights. Many decorative lights also have timers so you can program them to shut off when they’re not in use. A couple of good green examples: Cinderella’s Castle at Walt Disney World Resort is decked out with more than 200,000 LED white lights to make the castle glisten; and at Disneyland Resort, Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle is illuminated nightly with more than 126,000 twinkling LED lights, sparkling “icicles.” Skip the wrapping, give the gift of experiences Save yourself time and cut down on waste by gifting memorable experiences that don’t require any wrapping paper. Wrap it in brown so it can come back around Most gift wrap isn’t recyclable because of its decorative elements so if you’re going to wrap, use recyclable brown wrapping paper or brown paper bags you get from the grocery store. Send e-cards instead of snail mail Send out holiday cards electronically to reduce paper use and the carbon footprint that comes with postal delivery. Reduce waste around the table Cut down on food waste with smart preparation and smart shopping. Serve food with washable utensils, plates, and glasses, rather than disposable items. Sustainable gifts are everlasting Seek out environmentally-friendly/sustainable gift options such as reusable straws, bags and travel mugs; plants, clothes or items made out of recycled products. Recycle real trees with yard waste Make sure when the holidays are over, real trees are recycled with yard waste and not put out with your trash. Hopefully you will keep these tips in mind as you enjoy everything from eggnog to elves and gingerbread to jingle bells this holiday season! View the full article

  17. It’s time to get into the holiday spirit. And we really mean SPIRIT. Hurricane Hanna’s, pictured on a sunnier day! On this fittingly stormy day at Disney World, we traveled over to Hurricane Hanna’s Waterside Bar and Grill at the Beach Club Resort to check out the newest cocktail blowing its way into the pool bar! Say hello to the absolutely MASSIVE Storm Chaser cocktail, housed in a special Yacht and Beach Club Resort Souvenir Cup! Our bartender even put lemon Mickey ears on it — how cute! Storm Chaser and Souvenir Cup The bright blue drink is made with Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Bacardi Superior Rum, Blue Curaçao, and Sweet-and Sour topped with Sprite! We got this special drink in the huge souvenir cup, which our bartender told us fits about three regular sized drinks — WOWZA! Storm Chaser Now, I know you’re asking (or maybe you’re not, but I am definitely asking): how does this compare to other fishbowl drinks in Disney World? Most notably, the Seven Seas Lagoon at the Wave Lounge? Seven Seas Lagoon According to our taste tester, the Storm Chaser is better than the Seven Seas…as long as you bring your own gummies to add in. The drink is a bit boozier, plus you get the cup in the deal. That said, this one isn’t a destination drink the way the Trader Sam’s drinks are over at the Polynesian. If you’re ready to weather the storm with the Storm Chaser, you can pick it up in the Yacht and Beach Club Resort Souvenir Cup for $24! The large size makes it the perfect drink to share with friends (and we can HIGHLY recommend sharing with friends)! Storm Chaser is also available to purchase without the souvenir cup for $13 by itself (and obviously as a smaller size). Whichever option you choose, you can find it over at Hurricane Hanna’s Waterside Bar and Grill at the Beach Club Resort. Check out our review of the holiday cocktail we LOVED in Animal Kingdom! 18. Disney World seems to be experiencing a strange food trend this week… Epcot’s China Pavilion First we saw the Santa hat-toting Cranberry Mickey Brownie followed swiftly by the Mickey’s Santa Cupcake — also suspiciously wearing, you guessed it — a Santa hat! Now this new holiday snack (which we spotted in Epcot’s China Pavilion of all places!) has us pretty much certain there’s a delicious Christmas treat conspiracy happening right now in Disney World — and trust us, you gotta see what it is! As we made our way through the World Showcase today, our eyes were STRUCK by this sign in the China pavilion’s House of Good Fortune… . Cotton Candy Santa Hat Cotton Candy SANTA HAT? Consider us WILDLY intrigued! We had to circle back for this delicious-looking confection as Wenbo Zhang, the Cotton Candy Artist, wasn’t creating at the moment. And when we returned, there was quite the line! It looks like the word has started to spread around the World Showcase about his sugar mastery! China Pavilion The line moved quickly and before we knew it, we were face to face with the man himself, Wenbo Zhang! He quickly whipped us up a Cotton Candy Santa Hat to call our own, and we walked away with the happiest-looking Santa hat snack we’ve seen thus-far! Cotton Candy Santa Hat Forget those cotton candy flowers they’ve had since Flower and Garden, we’re TOTALLY obsessed with the Cotton Candy Santa Hat from now on! It’s undeniably adorable! Just try not to smile when you see this thing in person — we DARE YOU! Cotton Candy Santa Hat But sadly, Cotton Candy Santa Hat was not long for this world. He began to melt just like Frosty the Snowman. It wasn’t the heat that did him in but the light drizzle. Beware that much like a mogwai (gremlins for you 80s kids), you can’t get Cotton Candy Santa Hat wet! Cotton Candy Santa Hat That said, we still highly recommend picking up a Cotton Candy Santa Hat from the China pavilion on your next trip to Epcot this holiday season! The flavor is still just regular, delicious cotton candy sugar flavor, and it costs $15. The Cotton Candy Artist is in every day EXCEPT Wednesday and only makes the Cotton Candy Santa Hats at certain times of the day. Here’s the schedule reported in this week’s Times Guide: 11:30AM – 2:15PM 3:30PM – 6:15PM 7:30PM – 8:45PM Enjoy! 21. ‘Tis the season for food, food, and more food! This month, we’re closing out the year with new bites and edible experiences at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort, starting with a few fun holiday offerings at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. If you haven’t been yet, you should totally stop by Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa at Disneyland Resort to take in all of the gingerbread holiday goodness going on in the lobby! First of all, there’s a beautiful gingerbread display depicting a replica of the resort’s façade, standing seven feet tall and complete with hidden Mickeys! In addition, you can enjoy A Grand Gingerbread House Experience, a hands-on workshop that’s great holiday fun for the whole family! Meet the Disney pastry chefs who crafted the iconic gingerbread house and create one for your party or family. This experience occurs from 3:00-4:30 p.m. on Dec. 15, 18, 21, and 22. For more information and to make reservations, visit the Disneyland Resort website or call (714) 781-DINE or (714) 781-3463. Nearby, you’ll find a yummy array of holiday goodies for purchase at the Holiday Cart. These treats include holiday cookies, a Christmas cookie box, gingerbread man cookies, apple caramel pound cake, white chocolate brownie pops, peppermint bark, a truffle box, and gingerbread crispy treats. You can even warm up with some hot apple cider or hot chocolate! Cookie shots are also available, served in sweet cookie cups filled with your choice of milk, chocolate milk, or hot chocolate with pumpkin, peppermint, or caramel syrup. Adults can choose to fill their cookie shots with rum, Irish cream liqueur, cinnamon cream liqueur, or peppermint schnapps! Also at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, there’s a new “World of Color” dining package coming to Storyteller’s Café. In addition to an All-You-Care-To-Enjoy dinner buffet and non-alcoholic beverage, guests who book this package will receive a voucher that grants access to a preferred viewing area at Paradise Gardens Park for that night’s showing of World of Color at Disney California Adventure park. Reservations are now open for bookings beginning on Dec. 15 and can be made on the Disneyland Resort website or on the Disneyland App. Pricing is $50 for adults and $25 for children (tax and gratuity not included, theme park admission is also required and not included). Moving on over to the East Coast, Disney’s Animal Kingdom is completely decked out with all-new holiday decorations and experiences this year as well as a few deliciously festive treats. Many of these items were announced as part of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Tasting Sampler, which includes a $10 bonus card valid Dec. 22, 2019 through Jan. 4, 2020 at quick-service restaurants in the park after 4 p.m. (For more info, check out my recent blog post!) While the Tasting Sampler is not required to purchase these items, it’s a wonderful way to taste your way through the park! Out of all the items that will debut alongside the sampler on Dec. 22 (like the hot chocolate beverages – peppermint, sea salt caramel, and s’mores – and a specialty gingerbread latte available at Isle of Java), holiday treats available now include a variety of treats including a peppermint bark churro at Dino Diner, a double chocolate peppermint ice cream sandwich at Dino-Bite Snacks, and a peppermint cookies and cream sundae at Trilo-Bites. It’s a Simba-shaped pretzel! Inspired by Rafiki’s cave drawing of Simba, this super-cute snack is one you won’t want to miss. Also at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, I’m excited to announce that the Restaurantosaurus Burgers and Sundaes experience will be continuing throughout the end of 2020. This experience is a great way to enjoy hand-crafted burgers and a build-your-own sundae bar. For more information, check out my recent blog post. Reservations can be made online (walk-ups are welcome, but subject to availability). At Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, head on over to Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto and Tiki Terrace to grab this year’s holiday Tiki mug! Taking inspiration from the popular Jungle Cruise, the mug features a Jungle Cruise Skipper holding his ship’s steering wheel. The mug comes filled with the Mele Kaliki Mai Tai – consisting of dark rum, superior rum, allspice liqueur, cranberry juice, orgeat, cinnamon, and a splash of fresh lime juice and garnished with a cinnamon stick (a non-alcoholic version is available upon request). In addition, you can grab a matching ornament over at BouTiki, the merchandise shop located in the lobby of the resort. Finally, at Magic Kingdom Park, if you’re dining at Cinderella’s Royal Table, you can’t miss out on the Signature Slipper & Crown Dessert. This customized royal dessert features your choice of a white or dark chocolate slipper or a white chocolate crown with chocolate mousse and is presented with a chocolate cake with chocolate mousse and covered with a chocolate ganache. 22. The holidays are a magical time of year at Walt Disney World Resort, bringing with it the sights, sounds and tastes of the season. Each year, select resorts across Walt Disney World Resort display elaborate — and in many cases life-size — gingerbread house displays. These creative culinary wonders would not be possible without 150+ talented cast members and their dedication to creating these magical displays for our Guests to enjoy. To celebrate National Gingerbread House Day, we wanted to introduce to you a few of the pastry chefs who have worked diligently for months to bring these magnificent works of art to life. This year, Disney’s Beach Club Resort is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the life-size spinning carousel featuring beloved characters from Peter Pan. A team of more than 20 pastry chefs designed, baked and hand-crafted five chocolate horses, 2,020 shingles and 20 hidden Mickeys to create this one-of-a-kind culinary work of art. Pastry Chef Assistant Jesse Rodriguez (above), who has worked at Disney’s Beach Club Resort for 18 years, loved working on the carousel because it brought back warm memories of her and her mother baking when she was young. She said she and the other pastry chefs love this time of year because they get to express themselves through their designs and be extra creative putting their own touch to the gingerbread holiday display. Jesse’s special touch is seen on Wendy, the horse wearing a blue dress and matching blue bow and other holiday elements. New this year is Disney’s Wilderness Lodge’s gingerbread cabin, which was inspired by the Great Pacific Northwest and the turn-of-the-century National Parks’ lodges. Pastry Sous Chef Keith Hiner was excited to take his nearly 30 years of gingerbread-house creating expertise and apply it to designing a new display at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge for Guests and Cast to enjoy. He and his team take great pride in creating these culinary masterpieces and delights in seeing people take holiday photos in front of the cabin. He especially likes it when he’s asked to join the photo. Disney’s BoardWalk Resort is celebrating 10 years of gingerbread houses, and this year, it is featuring “Gingerbread Showplace of the Shore.” Pastry Sous Chef Heather Wall (redhead seated in front) is so proud of her team who spent 300 hours on their miniature model of The Boardwalk which features mini replicas of the Bakery, ESPN Club, Trattoria Al Forno, Flying Fish, the Seabreeze Point Wedding Pavilion, and the Crest O’ The Wave building. This is just a taste of the gingerbread displays across Walt Disney World Resort. These scrumptious masterpieces can also be found at Disney’s Saratoga Springs, Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Amorette’s Patisserie at Disney Springs and at the American Adventure pavilion at Epcot. Seeing these holiday sights certainly can make you hungry, so make it a holiday dining adventure and tour. Many of the gingerbread houses are located in resorts with amazing restaurants — Ale & Compass at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is just a stroll from Disney’s BoardWalk Resort and Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Whispering Canyon Cafe at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and 1900 Park Fare and Grand Floridian Cafe at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Take time to enjoy a meal and quality time with friends and family. Reservations can be made on MyDisneyExperience. View the full article
