  2. Ever wondered what it takes to create costumes for dozens of shows and attractions, and even more so for the thousands of cast members who bring magic to Disney parks every day? Enter the Disneyland Paris Sewing Workshop, a team of about 100 professionals dedicated to making the outfits worn by Disney characters, dancers in shows, parade performers and, of course, all of the attractions, shops, restaurants and hotels, and every cast member in them! On one hand, you have the design team – where concepts are created – made up of costume designers, costumiers, assistants, graphic designers and also a team of cosmetology creative experts. And, on the other hand, the Sewing Workshop – where the production of concepts comes to life – made up of about 50 dressmakers, milliners, pattern makers, tailors and even a wig maker. There is so much incredible talent, with each person a master of detail and precision, working to create each of the costumes that guests admire every day. Here are some fun facts by the numbers: It’s estimated that Mickey Mouse has more than 200 costumes for shows, parades, seasonal events and special parties – something for every occasion! Minnie Mouse also has her owned incredible wardrobe with no fewer than 150 outfits, even a haute couture dress created by Alber Elbaz in 2013! About 60,000 stage costume items are used for shows at Disneyland Paris. For example, more than 400 costumes were created over two years for “The Lion King: Rhythms of the Pride Lands,” requiring 2,541 meters of fabric and 112 pairs of custom-made shoes. For “The Jungle Book Jive,” more than 2,000 pieces of traditional jewelry appear from Rajasthan, India. There are about 8,000 cast members in operational roles at the resort who are dressed by the Disneyland Paris costuming teams, with 692 designs to date since 1992. In 2019 alone, 29,000 meters of fabric were ordered by the costuming teams. This huge workshop is a dream come true for children and adults, for fans of our shows, attractions and even fashion design enthusiasts like famous French fashion designer Chantal Thomass, who recently stopped by the shop. That’s right, Christmas Day is next week which means we’re facing up with one of the busiest Disney World weeks of the whole year. If you’re looking for a cute photo op, you’re in luck! But, if you were hoping for an iconic “Grand Circle Tour” trip around the Magic Kingdom, you might be a little disappointed on this Disney World trip. Walt Disney Railroad Steam Train “In Residence” at Main Street, U.S.A. Station The Frontierland Station and Fantasyland Station are completely closed right now as the train is not running its usual course. The Railroad closed a while back to accommodate the construction of TRON Lightcycle Run in Tomorrowland which we know is expected to open by October of 2021 for Disney World’s 50th Anniversary. Maybe we’ll see the Railroad reopen before that but for now, it’s still a mystery. Click here to check out our most recent update on the construction of TRON Lightcycle Run! Refurbishments in Epcot Impressions de France We’re inching closer to next month’s reopening of Impressions de France in Epcot’s France Pavilion. On January 17, the Palais du Cinema will reopen its doors as a spot where you can not only check out Impressions de France, but you can also see the brand new Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along. Refurbishments at the Resorts Beaches & Cream Soda Shop — Disney’s Beach Club Resort There’s a closure of a very popular joint at Disney’s Beach Club Resort right now too! The dining location has been closed for a little while with a temporary location in Ariel’s nearby, however, we’re so close to an opening of the new space that even the temporary location will be closed for part of next week. ©Disney That’s right. PART of next week. That’s because the new and improved Beaches & Cream will open to guests on December 26. Helloooooo Kitchen Sink!!! Click here to learn more about the reopening of Beaches & Cream! 5. WE’RE FREAKING OUT. The Child ©Disney Let us fill you in. We here as members of the Disney Food Blog team LOVE us some Disney snacks (it’s kinda part of the job!). So we’re always on the lookout for new ways to celebrate those iconic park eats. We also, as members of the human race, LOVE Baby Yoda (or The Child from The Mandalorian if you want to be accurate). So imagine our shock, awe, and utter glee when some of our readers suggested we take a look at a series of fan art by J. Shari Ewing that showed our favorite little green baby and a BUNCH of our favorite snacks! You HAVE to see this. Honestly. We don’t even know where to start. This art is just SO CUTE. J. Shari Ewing is a freelance artist who occasionally makes art inspired by Disney, and boy are we lucky because she’s started an adorable series called Baby Yoda Eats on her Instagram! ©J Shari Ewing The artwork features The Child chowin’ down on some iconic Disney park eats, like the Mickey Premium Bar. Of course, he couldn’t pass up on a specialty of Batuu in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, so Ewing has a piece with the little guy sporting a Blue Milk mustache. We can’t even. ©J. Shari Ewing She’s created over a dozen drawings that feature Baby Yoda and you can see ALL of them at her Instagram, @j_shari_ewing. Our favorite you ask? It’s the Baby Yoda Eats Mickey Beignets one! Look how much powdered sugar he has all over him! How’s he going to get that off with his little hands? We’ve never heard of the force being used on powdered sugar but in this situation, we could get behind it. ©J Shari Ewing J. Shari Ewing also accepts commissions on her website and sells prints of some of her work so if you’re in the market for some new art (both cute illustrations and beautiful fine art pieces), check her out! This Baby Yoda series certainly caught our attention. Can’t get enough Baby Yoda? Click here! Which Baby Yoda art is your favorite? Let us know in the comments! 8. GUYS, the end of the Skywalker saga is HERE! Backlot Express Restaurant We are SO excited that The Rise of Skywalker is finally out, and we’re not alone in that excitement! Disney World has been debuting a BUNCH of Star Wars newness at Hollywood Studios in honor of the movie’s premiere, from an exciting new MagicBand inspired by the film to a new Rise of Skywalker scene being added to Star Tours. But, that’s not all – we spotted a new Star Wars treat over at Backlot Express that’s a real hero addition! Say hello (or “Rrrrrrr-ghghghghgh!”) to the new Wookiee Oatmeal Cookie Sandwich! The delicious treat is inspired by our favorite Wookiee hero, Chewbacca. Wookie Oatmeal Cookie Sandwich The new Star Wars goodie is made with two oatmeal cookies, sandwiched together with a fluffy whoopie-pie cream filling. OMG y’all it’s a Wookiee Whoopie Cookie. Say THAT 3 times fast! All of that is topped off with a chocolate bar designed to look like Chewbacca’s bandolier! Wookie Oatmeal Cookie Sandwich We thought this Star Wars treat was super yummy! The filling is similar to a whoopie pie center, but a little more airy. It paired perfectly with the oatmeal cookies, which were nice and chewy and JUST the right amount of oatmeal flavor. The chocolate on top was also a SUPER cute addition to honor our fave fuzzy hero! Overall, it’s a great goodie to enjoy, and show off your Chewie love! Wookie Oatmeal Cookie Sandwich Fly on over to Backlot Express in Hollywood Express to pick up the Wookiee Oatmeal Cookie Sandwich for $5.99! There’s a NEW Rise of Skywalker scene in Star Tours! 9. I. DID. NOT. KNOW. THIS. HAPPENED. But I’m for sure gonna tell YOU about it! While Disney World might be the Most Magical Place on Earth, it isn’t necessarily exempt from unexpected weather-related problems! Sometimes even the most well-planned Disney events experience a few set-backs from Florida weather. But BEFORE you complain about the rainy Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party you experienced…READ THIS FIRST. This week one of our reporters visited Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. She had a great time, but did note that it was exceedingly rainy. Bummer, right? But, the night took a pleasant turn when she was given a “rain check” voucher to use as she leaving rainy Magic Kingdom. Magic Kingdom Rain Check Voucher In case you’ve never been to a party that’s been rained out before (hopefully), this voucher basically states that your Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party hard ticket would automatically be changed into a 1-Day Disney Park Ticket! Just because the rain was a bummer! Thanks, Disney! However, the BEST part about this voucher is that if a 1-Day Park Hopper doesn’t work for you, your party ticket could also be switched to another Magic Kingdom hard ticketed event in the future! Yaaaas!! Magic Kingdom Rain Check Voucher Now, even though this notice states that guests need to book the replacement Magic Kingdom event within the current calendar year…well…we don’t have that much time left in 2019, now do we. So Disney’s loosening the reigns a bit on that in this particular circumstance. If guests choose to switch their tickets to another hard ticketed event, all they have to do is call 407-939-7818 by January 31, 2020, for an available date to another Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, Magic Kingdom After Hours, or Villains After Hours. Um, how AMAZING is the Disney Guest Services team?! Mickey’s Very Merry Guide Map Still, though, there is a small issue with the voucher system. Our reporter noted that, unless people were told on their way out or received one of these notices, there’s no way they would know about the possibility for the “rain check” ticket. There was no pop-up in the My Disney Experience app for our reporter, so that means guests would have to KNOW that they needed to search the app to see if they received the automatic extra 1-Day Park Ticket. Villains After Hours Although we haven’t exactly been able to figure out the threshold for when Disney decides what type of weather is extra-ticket-worthy, we do know from our research that this rain check system seems to go into effect regularly when there’s inclement weather in the Magic Kingdom. An Orange Bird Christmas Now another instance of this type of thing happening could be with those pesky Rise of the Resistance boarding groups. When another one of our friends here at DFB was in a later boarding group that didn’t get called for the day in question, a fastpass for the attraction was dropped into her My Disney Experience account, but there was no notification about its existence. The moral of the stories? Keep a close eye on your My Disney Experience app tickets and fastpasses sections in case a windfall like this drops into your lap while you’re in Disney World! See You Next Time! And if you plan on going to a hard ticketed event in Disney World, be sure to keep an eye on the weather! If it starts to rain or there are other weather problems, check with a Cast Member to see if the vouchers will be given out. But if you’ve already left the party, be sure to check your My Disney Experience account after the fact to see if the 1-Day Park Ticket was distributed. And, don’t forget to call Disney to confirm and re-book a new event if it’s applicable! (We’re so game for heading to another Villains After Hours.) Villains Unite the Night Even though the rain can totally be a bummer during any Disney event, this voucher might just make up for it! ;-D Thanks, Uncle Walt! Have you received a “rain check” voucher before in Magic Kingdom? Let us know in the comments below! 10. It looks like Epcot’s Electric Umbrella might not be folding up as soon as we’d originally thought! Electric Umbrella And while the rest of Future World is undergoing heavy construction right now, it seems the much-loved quick-service restaurant has escaped the chopping block — at least, for now! The Electric Umbrella’s website had led us to believe the fast-casual restaurant would be shutting down this winter as part of Epcot’s exciting transformation. You can see the forboding message below which appears in bright red lettering! Electric Umbrella Restaurant Page Read more about Epcot’s transformation here! Previously, the Electric Umbrella didn’t show any hours past February 2020 — when we originally suspected the restaurant would be closing its doors. Electric Umbrella But as of today, hours are now posted through March 2020, with “No Times Available” starting on April 1st, seemingly postponing Electric Umbrella’s uncertain fate. Electric Umbrella Soda Station We could see these dates fluctuate more as time goes on, but for now, it looks like Electric Umbrella devotees are being given a little bit more time to say goodbye to this long-time Epcot establishment! 14. Today, as fans head to theaters for the epic conclusion to the Star Wars Skywalker saga, guests at Disney Parks around the world will be boarding Starspeeders and heading to exciting destinations inspired by Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The updated adventures will include an urgent transmission from none other than Lando Calrissian to join in the battle to end all battles! It’s been an incredible Star Tours journey (starting a long time ago in a Disney Park far, far away — well, actually not far from Walt Disney Imagineering, at Disneyland in Anaheim.) Since then, we’ve had a great time adding new sequences to keep Star Tours – The Adventures Continue relevant with the evolving film saga, and even more exciting for you to experience! Reforged Skywalker Saber Next up is the Ben Solo Saber for $139.99. Ben Solo Saber Won’t be giving away any big spoilers here, but if you’ve seen The Last Jedi, you may remember this saber somewhat. 19. Bonjour Disney Parks Blog readers! I am elated to share the news that Disney’s Riviera Resort is now open! Following the fanfare of a grand opening dedication ceremony, the 15thDisney Vacation Club property and Walt Disney World’s newest resort, officially opened to immerse guests in the sights and sounds of the European Riviera. To set the scene, a vocalist and classical guitarist performed elegant songs heard throughout the region, while a gentle breeze and warm sunlight magically transported all who gathered on the resort’s formal lawn to the Mediterranean coastline. Terri Schultz, senior vice president and general manager, Disney Vacation Club, and Thomas Mazloum, senior vice president of resorts at Walt Disney World, opened the ceremony with welcome and dedication remarks. “Blending the flavors and flair of the Italian and French Riviera with the creativity and imagination that only Disney can deliver, this new resort pays tribute to Walt and Lillian Disney’s amazing European travels while connecting Disney artistry and storytelling to this region’s renowned art heritage and inspiration,” said Schultz. “Not only will Disney’s Riviera Resort delight families with its gorgeous architectural details and wide range of accommodations, but members and guests will simply fall in love with the sights, sounds and flavors of Europe around every corner.” “Disney’s Riviera Resort adds a beautiful and inspiring addition to Walt Disney World,” said Mazloum. “We are always trying to evolve the guest and cast member experience at our parks and resorts. Riviera Resort does that by placing guests in the middle of the magic during their entire stay, inspiring them with old-world glamour and delighting them with timeless Disney charm.” To everyone’s delight, special guests Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Daisy Duck joined the celebration onstage in their brand-new attire that they don in Topolino’s Terrace — Flavors of the Riviera, the resort’s rooftop restaurant. Mickey the painter, Minnie the poet, Donald the sculptor and Daisy the dancer shared their enthusiasm for the new resort and their study of the European Riviera’s different art forms. In addition, Minnie wrote and treated event guests to a special poem in honor of the resort’s dedication. Guests had an opportunity to see some of the unique features of the resort, such as the two mosaic murals in the walkway tunnel leading to a Disney Skyliner station, the grand villas and Tower Studios, a unique accommodation at Disney’s Riviera Resort, and the S’il Vous Play water feature where families and young guests splash and play in a whimsical fountain amid beloved characters from Disney’s Fantasia. Check out this video for your front row view of the grand opening celebration. We hope you will visit us soon at Disney’s Riviera Resort! View the full article

  22. Each and every day at Disney Parks around the world, our cast members make magic for guests. But did you know that mission extends beyond our resorts? Through the Disney VoluntEARS program, our cast members have the chance to give back to their local communities and spread joy to those who need it most. More than 1,000 Disneyland Paris cast members bring smiles and surprises throughout France, coming together to share feelings of wonder and enchantment wherever they go. This can be seen especially in French hospitals, where more than 40,000 hospitalized children have experienced the magic of Disneyland Paris since 1991. This week, Disney VoluntEARS brought Christmas joy and gifts to children at Trousseau Hospital in Paris, one of the more than 400 hospitals in France that have welcomed our Disney VoluntEARS over the years. Disney VoluntEARS visit not only to deliver gifts, but also to play games, host educational workshops and of course bring a few friends along like Mickey and Minnie Mouse! In the weeks leading up to the holiday season, Disney VoluntEARS have been delivering gifts to hospitals for more than 1,500 children – the best way to wrap up a year of volunteer actions at the resort and around France. And in 2020, Disney VoluntEARS will play a key role in Disneyland Paris’ support of the annual Pièces Jaunes operation which supports hospitalized children across the country. Beyond hospital visits, Disneyland Paris also works with nonprofits across Europe – more than 100 in 2018 – to support community outreach events, host events at the resort and grant wishes to children. There are even volunteer actions like nature excursions and activities with kids to help preserve the environment and promote awareness of biodiversity with future generations. Watch the video below for a glimpse at the magic our Disney VoluntEARS bring to their local communities in France, and stay tuned for more updates from Disneyland Paris! View the full article
  23. Yoo hoo! I have literally been to five ugly Christmas sweater parties this season. My light-up Santa riding a unicorn sweater came in handy! (Don’t judge.) I wouldn’t call this one ugly (Brit would be upset if I did) but our newest wallpaper by designer, Brittany Ungvarsky, is definitely worth melting for. Olaf and Sven are chasing a snowflake from underneath a sweater, which is surely from Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post and Sauna. The cold may not bother you anyway but just in case we hope this wallpaper warms your heart. Add this festive wallpaper to your desktop or mobile device now. 24. Good morning from Animal Kingdom, friends! Animal Kingdom We recently found ourselves at the park quite early (trying to get on Flight of Passage TBH), and in need of a breakfast to fuel our wild adventures. We decided to head to the Yak and Yeti Local Foods Cafe, located in the quiet village of Anandapur. That’s right — we traveled all the way from the planet of Pandora to Asia, just for breakfast. (Talk about dedication. ) Atmosphere: Yak and Yeti Local Foods Cafe is located in Asia, near the entrance of Kali River Rapids. Yak & Yeti Local Foods Cafe Not to be confused with the table service Yak and Yeti Restaurant, this spot is outdoors, where you order at a register and grab your food from a counter. Ordering Area The decor and atmosphere transport you to an Asian village — everything is weathered and rusted. The paint is chipping, and makes you truly feel like it’s been here for a long time. Sign to seating After grabbing your food, make sure you visit the condiment cart, which has a pretty impressive spread of dips — from soy sauce to Thai Chile. Plus, the detail continues with this awesomely rusted cart! Condiment cart Thai Chile Sauce — More on this later. The seating area is entirely outside, but there is a lot of it! And…it’s purty. Real purty. Sign to seating It continues to transport you into an oasis on the other side of the world, from the intricate design on the roofs to the posters on the walls, and the calming stone fountain. Seating Seating Details and decoration Water fountain Do you feel zen yet? Ready to dig into our tranquil breakfast? Eats: While the lunch menu is distinctly Asian (you can check out our review here!), the breakfast menu is more traditional American fare. Breakfast Menu We grabbed a few items from the counter (and Thai Chile Sauce), and got ready to dig into our breakfast feast! All the breakfast yumminess! First up, the Breakfast Bowl with Sausage. Breakfast Bowl with Sausage This bowl contains Sausage, Scrambled Eggs, Cheddar Cheese, Breakfast Potatoes, Peppers and Onions and is topped with Green Onions. You can also opt for bacon (or get it sans meat), but we had bacon coming soon. Sausage Breakfast Bowl Just look at that cheesy, eggy pile of goodness! Are you drooling yet? Or is that just us? A Bite of Breakfast Goodness The verdict? It tastes as good as it looks! We loved the creamy egg and cheese, and the potatoes added a good heartiness to the dish. We were also very thankful for the peppers and onions, which added a much-needed burst of fresh flavor into our bites. Naturally, we added some of our beloved Thai Sweet Chili sauce to kick it up a notch. We highly recommend if you like a little heat in your dish! Next up, we dug into our other savory choice: a Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Sammie. Bacon Egg and Cheese Sandwich This sandwich is a classic breakfast combo — Eggs, American Cheese, Candied Black Pepper Bacon on Toasted Challah Bread, plus Hash Brown Bites on the side. Bacon Egg and Cheese Sandwich This juicy sandwich was very good as breakfast sammies go. The bacon was a very generous serving of high-quality meat and was cooked perfectly. While we personally prefer a runnier, over easy egg, this was still cooked nicely. And they certainly didn’t skimp on the bread — the challah was high quality and toasted nicely, and strong enough to hold up to the hearty toppings. Bacon Egg and Cheese Open-Face The sandwiches come with a sizeable portion of Hash-brown Bites on the side. Hash Brown Bites These are fine — nothing life-changing flavor-wise, but still decent hashbrowns. (We once again suggest Thai chili sauce.) While we still preferred the bowl thanks to the onions and peppers, if you’re someone who wants to stick with classic breakfast flavors, this is a very good option! Lastly, we opted for a sweet dish — Kid’s French Toast. Kid’s French Toast The French Toast came with one piece cut in half, syrup, and (the same size as the adult’s portion) hashbrown bites. As with most Disney kid’s meals, it also comes with your choice of beverage. (I asked — you cannot get coffee as the beverage. ) French Toast The French Toast seemed to be made of the same high-quality bread as the Sandwich. The strongest flavors (pre-syrup) were butter and cinnamon. Post syrup the strongest flavor was…syrup. Syrupy Goodness Overall this was a tasty sweet breakfast! And while there is no version of the French Toast for adults, anyone is welcome to order this should they please. We were also impressed with the large serving of hashbrowns with the kids meal — it would be hearty enough for an adult who isn’t starving in our opinion. Breakfast Overall: As far as Quick Service breakfast options IN the Disney World Parks go, the options are rather lacking. There are very few places you can grab an actual breakfast beyond a pastry or coffee. For that reason alone, we are fans of the Yak and Yeti Local Foods Cafe breakfast. And to top that, we enjoyed each item! Were they life-altering when it comes to unique offerings? No. But they were well-executed simple classics that just about everyone will enjoy. They were all solid portions, that could likely be shared — especially if you’ve got big reservations down the line. If you’re on the dining plan, we’d recommend saving your credits (as breakfast is the least expensive meal of the day), and paying for this out of pocket. Or you can use a snack credit to get a side of potatoes which hey — no judgment if you just want to eat potatoes for breakfast. There are lots of sweet snack options around the parks that work for breakfast (think pastries), so it’s nice to see a savory option in the bunch. While we don’t forsee ourselves rushing to Animal Kingdom just to eat Yak and Yeti breakfast, it’s a great option for folks who are in the park early and want a more substantial meal. We have a feeling we’ll be back after our next early-morning banshee flight. Want to learn more about breakfast in Walt Disney World? Check out this DFB Video! 25. With the holiday season upon us, we asked the talented pastry chefs at Toledo – Tapas, Steak & Seafood to share a recipe that is a guest favorite – Crema Catalana. Crema Catalana, originating from the Spanish region of Catalonia, has a wonderful citrus-infused creaminess with a hint of cinnamon and a crunchy layer of burned sugar. This traditional Spanish dessert is surprisingly simple to make at home and the perfect addition to your holiday gathering of friends and family. You can find this dessert as well as other dishes and small plates inspired by the flavors of Spain at the newly opened Toledo – Tapas, Steak & Seafood at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. The sweeping views of Walt Disney World Resort make this rooftop restaurant a unique and special dining experience.
