  1. Aloha! We’re excited to announce that ABC’s “American Idol” will return once again to Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa, soon to film its showcase round. The all-new season of ABC’s “American Idol” begins Sunday, February 16 (8:00-10:00 p.m. EST). Stay tuned every week to catch the episode filmed at Aulani Resort, and see contestants enjoy a Hawaiian paradise with a touch of magic. Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa is nestled in Ko Olina, Hawai‘i a respite from the busy and frequently visited locations of other Hawai‘i destinations. It’s a place where guests can connect to nature and the culture of Hawai‘i, a fitting backdrop as new American Idol contestants share their own authentic voices. Just as the American Idol contestants work with mentors to hone their craft, the Walt Disney Imagineers worked in partnership with local artisans and cultural experts to create Aulani when the resort was originally built among 21 oceanfront acres. The resort is inspired by the natural beauty and rich traditions of Hawai‘i and celebrates the culture, history and welcoming spirit of the islands. The episode will feature the American Idol all-star judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie, along with Emmy-winning producer and host Ryan Seacrest, and multimedia personality and in-house mentor Bobby Bones, as they experience Aulani and contestants compete to become the next American Idol. 2. Do the chilly winter days have you wishing for warmer weather? They sure do for me! When the cold starts creeping in, what better way to escape than by taking a Disney cruise to warm, tropical destinations? Whether it’s a weekend getaway or week-long adventure, Disney Cruise Line has a variety of tropical ports in the Bahamas and Caribbean that make for the perfect sun-filled (and fun-filled!) escape to get your family through winter. Cozumel Immerse yourself in the culture and beauty of one Mexico’s most popular destinations, Cozumel. The thick green jungles and tranquil lagoons offer a unique setting for this unforgettable destination. Explore ancient Mayan ruins, taste your way through the island’s delectable cuisine and encounter marine life as you snorkel and scuba dive. Here, there’s something for every kind of adventurer! St. Thomas Explore the natural beauty of this island getaway! In St. Thomas, experience stunning beaches, lush landscapes and scenic views. This beautiful destination is perfect for relaxation, but there are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy – including golf, snorkeling and shopping. Castaway Cay Experience tropical paradise at one of my favorite places, Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay. A day at Castaway Cay takes relaxing on the beach to a new level – with a touch of Disney magic, of course. Go sailing, paddle boarding or kayaking with your family, followed by a delicious lunch at Cookie’s BBQ. Or, sit back and relax at Serenity Bay while admiring the crystal blue waters of the Bahamas. With all the ingredients for the perfect beach day, all you need to think about is when to reapply your sunscreen. There are even more ways to enjoy fun in the sun aboard a Disney Cruise! You can delight in the warm weather as you watch your favorite Disney movies poolside or take an exhilarating ride in the AquaDunk or AquaDuck! Once you’ve worked up an appetite, the open air of the upper deck is the perfect place to soak up some rays and enjoy a midday snack (ice cream, anyone?). Aboard a Disney cruise, there are countless ways to relax and bid those “winter blues” goodbye! So, are you thinking what I’m thinking? It’s time to say, “Goodbye, Winter … Hello, #DisneyCruiseLife!” Learn more about Disney Cruise Line and where we’re sailing this winter by visiting DisneyCruise.com. View the full article

  11. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is officially open in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland park, and the stars of the Hulu hit series “Dollface” and upcoming series “Little Fires Everywhere” recently joined the Resistance in a battle against the First Order in this immersive new experience! Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance draws you into a sprawling narrative that blurs the lines between fantasy and reality, delivering thrilling action driven by cutting-edge technology and innovative design that gives you the feeling of stepping inside a Star Wars film. Actors Jade Pettyjohn, Jordan Elsass, Gavin Lewis, Lexi Underwood, and Megan Stott posed in front of Po’s ship with BB-8 before joining the battle against the First Order. Then, the recruits stepped into the Hangar Bay and were awestruck to find 50 stormtroopers ready for their arrival. The fearless Brenda Song even snapped a quick picture before First Order guards detained the new recruits. The group then boarded a Star Destroyer for an epic adventure that put them in the middle of a battle with the First Order. Thankfully, everyone eluded the clutches of Kylo Ren! Phew. Finally, the Resistance fighters explored Batuu and encountered some notorious rebels. Who can resist a hug from our favorite Wookie, Chewbacca, or a run-in with R2-D2? The resourceful astromech droid has shown great bravery in rescuing his masters and their friends from many perils! …and after a full day of adventure, everyone was thirsty for some Blue and Green Milk. Yum! You can catch these friendly rebels on HULU. Season 1 of ‘Dollface’ is streaming now and the series ‘Little Fires Everywhere’ premieres on March 18, both only on HULU. View the full article

  13. Pixar Animation Studios has created some of the most incredible, endearing and timeless stories ever told. “Toy Story,” “Finding Nemo,” “Ratatouille” and “Monsters, Inc.” are among my family’s favorite films, and as a father of two (now teenage!) boys, I can’t wait to see the next original tale from Pixar, “Onward.” For a limited time beginning February 7, guests visiting Disney Parks will get an early glimpse of scenes from “Onward.” Sneak peeks of the film will be shown in the Tomorrowland Theater at Disneyland park and as part of the Walt Disney Presents attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Guests aboard Disney Cruise Line can also catch this special look at a part of the film, during select sailings in February and early March. Set in a suburban fantasy world, Disney and Pixar’s “Onward” introduces two teenage elf brothers – Ian & Barley – who embark on an extraordinary quest after being given the chance to spend one more day with their father. Here’s a special message from Academy Award-winner Octavia Spencer, who plays the Manticore in the film. “Onward” releases in theaters on March 6, 2020. View the full article

  15. It’s almost a new week and for some lucky folks, that means a trip to Disney parks! Cinderella’s Castle Well, for those folks who are headed into the parks sometime next week, you’re definitely going to want to be aware of what you WON’T be able to do on your day in the park! That’s right, we’re talking refurbishment closures in Disney World AND Disneyland this week! So, read on to find out about all of the attractions, restaurants, and stores that are closed for business January 27th through February 2nd! Refurbishments in Magic Kingdom Splash Mountain Annual refurbishment is ongoing over at Splash Mountain so you’ll have to wave a Bre’r Rabbit over the construction barriers until February 28th! Of course, we’ve had a chilly Orlando week so maybe it’s a good thing we’re not getting thrown into the Briar Patch. Splash Mountain Sign Click here for everything you need to know about the Splash Mountain closure! Walt Disney World Railroad You can still visit Walt Disney World Railroad at Main Street Station where the train is positioned for photo ops, but if you want a ride you’ll have to wait. Construction on TRON Lightcycle Run continues and with that being the cause of this closure, the train could be out of commission for a good while longer. We expect the train to open sometime before or with TRON in time for Disney World’s 50th in 2021. Fantasyland Train Station Closed Sign Want more info on TRON Lightcycle Run? Click here! Refurbishments in Epcot Test Track and Test Track SIMporium Over in Epcot, construction continues on Test Track and Test Track SIMporium. The good news is, it is routine maintenance so we should be crafting custom cars again come February 26th! Test Track Construction Will you be missing Test Track while it’s gone? Click here! Refurbishments in Hollywood Studios Muppet*Vision 3D For the first time in weeks, there IS a closure over in Hollywood Studios. As of Sunday, Muppet*Vision 3D will be closing for refurbishment. We’re not sure what this refurbishment entails but we do know it isn’t too long! As it stands, we should be seeing our muppet pals again on February 9th. Muppet*Vision 3D To learn more about the Muppet*Vision 3D closure, click here! Refurbishments in Animal Kingdom Kali River Rapids And finally, in Animal Kingdom, the closure continues on Kali River Rapids until March 21st for routine winter maintenance. You can visit Blizzard Beach in the meantime though (although it may be closed this weekend due to weather)! Times are currently not listed for Blizzard Beach this Saturday and Sunday on the Walt Disney World website. Typhoon Lagoon Refurbishments in Disneyland Haunted Mansion Across the country, Disneyland is seeing their fair share of refurbishments too and some of them are on some seriously classic and iconic attractions. For instance, Haunted Mansion is seeing downtime right now. We expect that the ghouls are working on removing the holiday overlay, but Disney has also announced improvements to mechanics, interiors, and exteriors. This haunting tour won’t return until sometime in the Spring so you’ll have to get your ghost fix elsewhere! Construction Update Haunted Mansion Check out everything we know about the Haunted Mansion closure! Snow White’s Scary Adventures Pop over to Fantasyland to spot another classic undergoing refurb. A MASSIVE scrim and some construction barriers are currently covering up Snow White’s Scary Adventures as the attraction receives some TLC as well as an all-new happy-ending scene and a new vignette. A reopening date has yet to be announced but we expect this closure to be pretty lengthy considering the scope of work. Snow White Construction Click here to learn more about the changes coming to Snow White’s Scary Adventures! King Arthur Carrousel But that’s not all going on in Fantasyland! The Boardwalk These lovable little representations of our favorite Disney characters have been popping up everywhere since last year, including this NEW Cheshire Cat addition, we spotted yesterday over at the Art of Animation Resort. 19. Listen up, Disney Vacation Club members! You’ll be livin’ large soon! Or at least, hopefully sometime in the next few years. Sleeping Beauty Castle We reported a few months ago that Disneyland had announced an all-new 12-story Disney Vacation Club time-share tower that was proposed to be built next to the Disneyland Hotel. Well, things seem to be moving forward because Disney has officially filed the first round of permits with the city of Anaheim AND they’ve released some details and concept art for the new tower, so let’s check out this future lap of luxury! According to Orange County Register, the tower is set to introduce 350 new vacation club rooms including two MULTI-LEVEL Grand Villas towards the top of the tower. Wowza. The facility will also sport a Mickey-shaped spa and an outdoor pool bar! It’s set to be built on about two acres directly next to the existing Disneyland Hotel and guests will use check-in services at Disneyland Hotel (so think Bay Lake Tower at the Contemporary!). ©Disney Disney Vacation Club members will be able to use the points system to book space in these fancy new digs as early as 2023 as long as all goes to plan. Now, it’s important to note that the permits haven’t even been approved yet so construction could be delayed longer than expected or it could be changed or even canceled altogether (we’re lookin’ at you, Canceled Downtown Disney Hotel). Hopefully, though, that won’t be the case with this project and everything will run smoothly! Disney Vacation Club Sales Kiosk We’ll be sure to keep you in the loop on any updates about the upcoming tower, especially if it’s new concept art! In the meantime, happy travels! 20. Whether you are a first-timer to Magic Kingdom Park or a pro at navigating the iconic park, everyone has a must-do attraction or experience that makes their vacation extra special. It could be flying high on Dumbo the Flying Elephant and sailing through it’s a small world, or maybe it’s finally meeting a favorite character and watching the world-class parade. But for my family, it’s the tempting treats that we look forward to the most. We have lots of great memories that include sampling sweet and savory indulgences. If you are traveling with a little one in tow be sure to introduce them to classic Disney snacks like the creamy Dole Whip, Mickey Ice Cream Bars or oversized Mickey-shaped hot pretzels. A newer sweet treat to sample is the Cheshire Cat Tail (a chocolate Danish drizzled with frosting.) Let’s see what these little ones had to say as they nibbled their way around Magic Kingdom Park. 22. With the Lunar New Year being one of the most widely celebrated holidays in China, Shanghai Disney Resort has some bad news regarding this weekend’s festivities. ©Disney Due to the current public health crisis of a coronavirus outbreak in China, Shanghai Disney Resort is joining other public institutions in temporarily closing tomorrow in the interest of the public. Shanghai Disneyland, Disneytown, Walt Disney Grand Theatre, and Wishing Star Park are all included in this change. The closure will continue until further notice as the health situation is monitored by Disney officials and the Chinese government. Unfortunately, this closure comes at a very undue time as tomorrow marks the Lunar New Year and the start of the “Year of Mickey” (technically, the Year of the Rat). Festivities were planned for the weekend and Shanghai Disneyland was expected to see a big draw of people for the holiday. Now, celebrations have been cut short. All guests affected by the closure will be issued refunds for the inconvenience. Mickey Avenue Shanghai Swing ©Disney The coronavirus has been spreading across China and the number of cases is growing with several confirmed deaths. This has caused many public spaces in China, including the famous Forbidden City, to close up shop until the outbreak is better contained. You can read the official statement from Shanghai Disney Resort here. ©Disney We’ll be sure to keep you updated on the status at Shanghai Disney Resort so check back in soon.
