This summer, ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex will host the 2020 Walt Disney World EGF High School National Championship, in collaboration with the Electronic Gaming Federation (EGF). This will be the first high school esports event at Walt Disney World Resort, bringing top competitors to the sports complex. Taking place June 12 to 14, 2020 at The Arena at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, the 2020 Walt Disney World EGF High School National Championship will bring together top talent from across the United States, who have excelled at the regional level, to compete for the title of national champion. This year’s event will feature teams vying for the championship spot from the following games: Overwatch | eight teams to compete Rocket League | eight teams to compete Super Smash Bros. | 16 teams to compete “At ESPN Wide World of Sports, we strive to make dreams come true for competitors and fans from many different sports,” said Faron Kelley, vice president, Disney Sports. “We look forward to adding our first high school esports tournament to this list and are proud to work with EGF, a leader in esports youth events.” “We’re proud to partner with Walt Disney World Resort to bring the championship of the EGF high school esports season to the ESPN Wide World of Sports! Now that Galaxy’s Edge has been fully realized at Disneyland Park, attention has turned over the other side of the esplanade where we’ll be able to live out our super-hero fantasies soon at Avengers Campus at Disney’s California Adventure. Avengers Campus Concept Art ©Disney The first phase of the new land is slated to open this summer and we could not be more excited! Scratch that, actually we can, because Disney has just revealed that Spider-Man himself will be swinging above our heads at the campus. Annnnd they shared a video with us! Not only is our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man going to be involved in a new attraction at the Worldwide Engineering Brigade (WEB) Building, he will be periodically performing high-flying acrobatics over guests. If you watched the final episode of The Imagineering Story on Disney+, you might remember seeing Imagineers testing a new kind of animatronic. ©Disney This is a Stuntronic, an audio-animatronic that is not connected to any base and is able to make dynamic movements. It uses on-board sensing to perform acrobatic feats reliably and accurately. With this new form of mechanical animation, Spider-Man can jump, flip, and swing over Avengers Campus regularly.  Hopefully, this opens the door for these types of audio-animatronics in other attractions. We’re already thinking of the possibilities for additions to Pirates of the Caribbean or even another TRON ride. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway opens March 4th at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and we are so ready to finally ride it! Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway ©Disney To get us pumped, Disney has been periodically releasing new posters based on the Mickey Mouse shorts. So far, we’ve seen posters for Wish Upon A Coin, Three-Legged Race, Split Decision, and Tokyo Go. Today, Disney has released the next poster in the countdown to the opening. This poster is based on the Mumbai Madness short and features Mickey driving a rickshaw through the city streets with an elephant friend in tow. As we revealed at D23 Expo this past summer, Imagineers are hard at work to bring to life an amazing new experience with Spider-Man at Avengers Campus coming to Disney California Adventure park this summer! Today I’m excited to share that guests visiting Disney California Adventure park in the near future may be able to catch a glimpse of the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man himself swinging above the rooftops of Avengers Campus. Check out this video we captured of Spider-Man practicing some of his amazing acrobatic feats at a top secret location: Guests visiting Disney California Adventure park prior to the opening of the Avengers Campus this summer can still encounter Spider-Man daily in Hollywood Land between his visits to Avengers Campus. As previously announced, Spider-Man can be seen in his exclusive, new suit designed by Ryan Meinerding, Head of Visual Development at Marvel Studios. When Avengers Campus opens this summer, guests will be recruited to become the next generation of Super Heroes. The campus will be home to a variety of new experiences giving guests the chance to feel the power, adventure and exhilaration of teaming up with some of their favorite Super Heroes including: The Worldwide Engineering Brigade – also known as “WEB” – which will house the new Spider-Man attraction where guests can sling webs alongside Spider-Man himself. Pym Test Kitchen, an all-new eatery, where Pym Technologies Researchers are using Ant-Man and the Wasp’s growing and shrinking technology to create super-sized and super small foods. Heroic encounters throughout the campus where guests can team up with some of their favorite Super Heroes including Spider-Man, Black Widow, Doctor Strange, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther and the Dora Milaje, Thor and Loki, Iron Man and for the first time, Ant-Man and The Wasp. While it ain’t easy being green, — it also ain’t easy being a Muppets fan at Disney World right now! Muppet*Vision 3D The Muppets Present… Great Moments in American History has left Magic Kingdom and Epcot’s Regal Eagle Smokehouse (fronted by the greatest patriot of our times, Sam the Eagle) has yet to open! But the blows haven’t stopped there! Muppet*Vision 3D is currently closed for refurb, and TODAY we noticed a very important figurehead of Muppet fandom is MISSING! Excuse me, but where did the Statue of Miss Piggy go?!? She was just here on our last Hollywood Studios walkthrough, but now she’s gone M.I.A.! No Miss Piggy There’s just a sad little piece of pipe where she once stood! Our girl was looking a little rough when we saw her earlier this week so we’re hoping she’s just off somewhere powdering her nose! She’s been known to disappear from time to time to refresh her look and since Muppet*Vision 3D is also undergoing some maintenance, we’re hoping she’ll be back in a jiffy! Statue of Miss Piggy From Earlier This Week Besides, the Muppet Courtyard just isn’t the same without her! And the Statue of Miss Piggy has been such a beacon of hope in our lives! Her location just outside of the Gonzo Royal Flush restrooms has always been a guiding light to one of our favorite lavatories at Hollywood Studios! Muppet*Vision 3D We’ll keep an eye out for Miss Piggy’s safe return (PRETTY PLEASE!!!), but for now, there’s no reason to panic…yet! Are you a Muppets fan? runDisney allows guests to take part in race events throughout the year at Walt Disney World as if walking around the parks on your vacation doesn’t get you the cardio you need. And now they’ve even added a brand new club for you avid runners out there. ©runDisney For the past five years, runDisney has included a Virtual Series during the summer months if you want to inject some Disney magic into your normal neighborhood jog. They’ve revealed the themes for this year’s series, which pays homage to three classic attractions. The Virtual Series takes place from June 1 to August 31, 2020, with each month featuring a new theme. June’s theme is based off the wacky spinner, the Mad Tea Party. ©Disney You can blast off with July’s theme, Space Mountain. ©Disney For August, you can go running with your favorite 999 happy haunts from the Haunted Mansion. ©Disney Running during any of the months will get you a medal for each month. Today, we’re continuing our cartoon poster series to celebrate the March 4 debut of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios with new art inspired by Mickey’s “Mumbai Madness” short. Our newest poster features Mickey driving a jolly elephant on what appears to be a routine trip. However, in the video short, the rickshaw ride is anything but ordinary as Mickey embarks on an epic journey of a lifetime with a special guest! Soon, you’ll be able to experience your own amazing journey in Mickey’s wild cartoon universe at Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway attraction. During each adventure, you’ll enter the NEW Mickey Mouse cartoon short “Perfect Picnic” for an one-of-a-kind adventure where anything can happen. Why? Because here, mouse rules apply! At Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, you’ll see posters of these existing award-winning shorts that might have previously premiered at the Chinese Theatre – all created specifically for the attraction by Walt Disney Imagineering and Disney Television Animation. Even after chowing down on every new food and drink option at this year’s Festival of the Arts to compile our 2020 Best of the Fest list, we’re still HUNGRY! Festival of the Arts Sign And while earlier we found out Epcot would soon be debuting two new food locations, we now know WHEN they’ll be opening! The info we were seeking was printed in this week’s times guide for Epcot! Now, just a word of caution — these guide maps aren’t always 100% accurate (ahem, Regal Eagle Smokehouse was once stated as opening in December 2019 which we all know didn’t happen). But still, if this information is correct, we could be munching on new food at Epcot REAL SOON! Epcot Guide Map According to the park guide, Eats at the Epcot Experience will be debuting their new menu on February 2nd, 202o at Epcot’s Odyssey Center while Taste Track Burgers and Fries located in Future World will also be opening sometime next month! We’ve Taste Track is a location we’ve seen come and go, this is the first time they will be servin’ up burgers and fries. Epcot Guide Map Disney hasn’t shared with us yet any menus for either of these spots yet, but the description in the parks guide lists Eats at the Epcot Experience current offerings as pretzel bites, popcorn, ice cream, and beverages which will soon also include flatbreads, salads, and more! And if we had to guess what Taste Track Burgers and Fries, we’re going to go out on a limb here and guess…BURGERS AND FRIES! It makes sense because The Electric Umbrella will be closing soon as the Epcot transformation forges on and guests will need another place to snag some good ol’ American style grub! Eats at Epcot Experience Speaking of American food, we’ve yet to see Regal Eagle Smokehouse open its doors. Meanwhile, we’re also still waiting for Space 220 Restaurant to blast off! But don’t worry — we’re keeping a close eye on everything and we’ll ring the dinner bell as soon as it’s time to come and get ANY of these new Epcot eats! The 1932 Silly Symphony “Flowers and Trees,” a forest comes alive with music and dance – until a rotten tree trunk shows up to try to spoil the fun. This silly short was the inspiration for today’s Disney Doodle, in which artist Ashley Taylor imagines what these forest inhabitants would do if they could visit Disney’s Animal Kingdom. “The Trees from “Flowers and Trees” are always looking for a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the sunshine,” Ashley said. “The Tree of Life provides that perfect environment for them to grow and thrive.” View the full article

While Disney World has been buzzing with excitement over Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure as it nears its completion (especially when the sign for Gusteau’s was recently lowered into place!). Buuuut there hasn’t been much talk about the other major upgrade coming soon to the France Pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure ©Disney And while Epcot’s Space 220 Restaurant and Regal Eagle Smokehouse are never far from people’s minds (especially because either one of them could open ANY DAY NOW!), the La Crêperie de Paris hasn’t received equal billing…UNTIL NOW! Somehow in the hustle and bustle of the Epcot transformation, some of the MOST important details about the new La Crêperie de Paris got lost! But don’t worry. We haven’t forgotten any of them! Epcot Experience Find out more about the Epcot transformation HERE! For instance, did you know the La Crêperie de Paris, which is set to open this SUMMER, is BOTH a Table-Service AND Quick-Service restaurant? IT IS! In fact, the new restaurant will even be fronted by the same executive chef as another one of France’s popular restaurants, Chefs de France! That means in addition to chowing down on fine French foods and beverages at Chefs de France and Monsieur Paul, there will now be a third Table-Service option in France! Les Chefs de France in Epcot But the restaurant will also feature a Quick-Service counter for folks who prefer their French food fast! We’re expecting it will be a similar situation to the Italy Pavilion’s Via Napoli restaurant and the Pizza al Tagglio pizza window which share a kitchen with each other. Some of our recent fav foods have come from quick service windows like Pizza al Tagglio, like the tasty Fried Arancini Balls you could snag without an advance dining reservation! Our minds are reeling trying to guess what French hits will make the cut for this location! What we DO know is that recently in the France Pavilion, they’ve been testing French hard ciders for possible use in the Crêperie! YUM! Disney hasn’t released its menus yet for La Crêperie de Paris, but we’ll let you know the second they do! Creperie Concept Art ©Disney And while Disney hasn’t yet shared Le Crêperie de Paris’s menu, they have stated the restaurant will draw its inspiration from the Brittany region of France! They’ve also told us that we can expect savory crêpes called “galettes” and sweet crêpes among its offerings! A Galette in France is often associated with sweet cakes, BUT it also refers to savory pancakes typically made with buckwheat or potato, often called a Breton Galette, so we’re excited to see what savory offerings they come up with for the new spot! Now that the Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along is officially open and the fully-remastered Impressions de France has returned to the Palais de Cinema, it seems the France Pavilion is inching ever closer to its completion. Mint Julep Bar And while the Mint Julep Bar in Disneyland’s New Orleans Square is THE SPOT to find the sugary pockets of fried dough we all know and love, a new breed of Mickey Beignets was born TODAY! Join us in welcoming the new Chocolate Mint Mickey Beignet into the world! Chocolate Mint Mickey Beignet The Mint Julep Bar just released these little dudes TODAY and we just had to rush over there and MEET them in person! I mean, it’s not every day we get to make the acquaintance of a new Mickey Beignet! These guys are like Disney snack celebrities TO US! Chocolate Mint Mickey Beignet The delicious Chocolate Mint Mickey Beignets are dusted with chocolate powder and crushed peppermint candies — kinda like the Candy Cane Beignets we’ve seen them servin’ up during the holidays! Ever wondered what happens to the coins that guests toss into the fountains at Disneyland Paris? For 27 years, the resort has donated every coin – and even more collected from cast members – as part of its work with the Fondation Hôpitaux de Paris – Hôpitaux de France to support its annual Pièces Jaunes (“Yellow Coins”) campaign for hospitals across the country. Today, Disneyland Paris had the chance to go even further by welcoming 300 children and their families from 18 hospitals and establishments supported by the foundation for a special day-long event in celebration of the 2020 Pièces Jaunes campaign along with Brigitte Macron, the foundation’s chairwoman and wife of the French president, as well as Didier Descamps, godfather of the 2020 campaign. The kids had the chance to see the resort’s brand-new Frozen Celebration, ride some of their favorite attractions and paint giant Disney-themed frescos with the help of Disney VoluntEARS to hang on the walls of hospital pediatric wards. There was even a private concert in Disneyland Park with special performances by Vianney, Joyce Jonathan, Kendji Girac, Christophe Maé, Boulevard des Airs and Claudio Capéo. Here at Disney Parks, our mission is to bring joy and magic to children and their families, so it’s days like these that are truly magical. Of course, this day is just one of many! Since 1991, more than 40,000 hospitalized children have been visited by Disney VoluntEARS from Disneyland Paris, and the year 2020 will mean even more visits to pediatric wards across France.
