  6. HOT DIGGITY DOG!!! There’s a brand new Disney Food Truck now open in Disney Springs! ©Disney Actually, make that Hot Diggity DOGS…. because that’s the name of this new truck serving up a variety of over-the-top, completely loaded HOT DOGS on the West Side! Though the location can change at any time (the restaurant IS a truck, after all ), we found Hot Diggity Dogs parked at Exposition Park on the West Side of Disney Springs, right by the West Side Starbucks. And, as the park often serves as the spot for the other Disney Food Trucks — the Mac & Cheese Food Truck and Cookie Dough and Everything Sweet — it’s is your best bet for finding Hot Diggity Dogs on any given day. Disney Springs Food Trucks Hot Diggity Dogs is hard to miss, painted in bright hues decorating the truck with images of pickles, peppers, and more… like hot dogs, for instance ;). Hot Diggity Dog Food Truck The menu features five different styles of loaded 1/4 lb All-Beef Hot Dogs, all served up with house-made-chips. Your choices are a BLT Dog, Chicago Dog, Chili Cheese Dog, a Reuben Dog, and a Santa Fe Dog. Hot Diggity Dogs Food Truck Menu But why choose… when you can get ALL FIVE?? At least, that’s what we did, so we can give you the digs on these dogs! Time to get rollin’ on these puppies! The BLT Dog for $12.25 takes the makings of the classic sammie — bacon, lettuce, and tomato — and piles them all atop the beef dog along with a drizzle of garlic ranch dressing taking the place of the typical mayo. BLT Dog The BLT Dog is definitely the most basic, kiddo-friendly dog with looooots of bacon! For us, there was way too much iceberg lettuce, but we loved the garlic ranch dressing! It’s a simple and delicious dog that we think will be a real crowd-pleaser, despite the leafy greens! BLT Dog Close-up For another hot dog topped with even more meat, you can grab the Reuben Dog for $12.25! Again, it’s a twist on a beloved sandwich featuring a classic all-beef hot dog, pastrami, swiss cheese, Russian dressing, and a pretty terrific complement to any hot dog… sauerkraut! Rueben Dog The Rueben Dog was one of our favorites with that tasty Russian dressing being the star. It’s a “heavier” hot dog because of the pastrami bits (which there’s A LOT of, yay!), while the swiss and the sauerkraut all work together so well. It’s definitely the most “meal-like” of all the dogs and the flavors really pop! Rueben Dog Close-up Have you ever tried a Chicago Dog? The traditional toppings include mustard, onions, pickles, tomatoes, and small pickled “sport” peppers. You can enjoy this taste of Windy City for $12.25! Chicago Dog We’ve eaten a lot of Chi-Town dogs in our time, and we really loved this one! The pickles might not be the traditional neon green relish we’re used to and there are no poppy seeds to be seen on this bun, but this dog is still super fresh and tasty. It has just the right amount of red onion, sport peppers, and mustard so that you get the perfect bite each time. Just remember — to keep it authentic to Chicago, don’t ask for ketchup! Chicago Dog Close-up The Santa Fe Hot Dog delivers a dog topped with chili lime salt, corn, fresh cilantro, chipotle mayo, and cojita cheese. It’s served with a lime wedge and costs $12.75. Sante Fe Dog The Sante Fe Dog was one of Hot Diggity Dogs’ more unique offerings. It had a very fresh and light taste while acid from the lime married nicely with the corn and cojita cheese. We actually would have loved a bit more cotija on ours so the saltiness from the cheese could balance out the brightness of the lime. The chili lime salt sprinkled all over the dog along with the chipotle mayo added a nice kick without being too spicy! Santa Fe Dog Close-up Now, if you’re looking to stick with the tried-and-true, it doesn’t get much more classic than a Texas Chili Cheese Dog! This one’s served up with a heaping helping of Texas chili along with shredded cheddar cheese and crunchy corn chips for $12.25! Texas Chili Dog From Casey’s Corner in Magic Kingdom to Dockside Diner in Hollywood Studios and beyond… you’re never too terribly far from a Chili Cheese Dog when you’re in Walt Disney World! The chili was super mild and a little too sweet for our liking. We needed a lot more cheddar to do the job as well (we’re cheeseaholics, have you met us?). We did, however, enjoy the crunch and saltiness from the corn chips, but we’ll probably forgo ordering this one again since we enjoyed the other dogs more. Texas Chili Dog We did ask vegetarian or vegan options, and at this time, Hot Diggity Dog is only serving all-beef franks, but we’ll keep checking back! Oh, and by the way… we can’t go without giving a nod to those classic Disney house-made chips. Lightly seasoned, nice and crispy, they’re a great accompaniment to pretty much anything, but they go especially well with the loaded hot dogs, no matter which you choose! You can get an order of these House-Made Chips (sans hot dog) for $7! House-made Chips But guess what? Just like your Hot Diggity Hot Dogs, you can also get your house-made chips FULLY LOADED! You can have them doctored up with the same toppings as those yummy puppies we showed you above including BLT, Chicago, Chili Cheese, Reuben Dog, and Santa Fe-style, all for $7 each! ©Disney Loaded House-made Chips We chose the Santa Fe-style Loaded House-Made Chips for $7. We enjoyed these flavors a little better with the chips instead of the hot dog. Again, they were a little light on cotija cheese for our liking, but they were extra generous with chipotle mayo, so our chips were really yummy! Santa Fe Loaded House-made Chips Hot Diggity Dog also serves a signature sauce that you can ask for the sauce on the side of any dog. It’s made with piquillo peppers, jalapeño, yellow onion, garlic, red wine vinegar, and brown sugar. We found it to be a little runny and more sweet than spicy. We feel like it could have benefited from some extra heat. Hot Diggity Dog Sauce For beverages, Hot Diggity Dogs offers Coca-Cola bottled drinks for $4.50 or Bottled Water for $3.50. And that’s a wrap for our very first — but not our last — trip to Hot Diggity Dogs in Disney Springs! Today (a Thursday), the new location opened at 5:00 PM; however, hours and location for the trucks can always vary based on anticipated crowds in Disney Springs or simply days of the week. Mondays through Thursdays typically have a 5:00 PM opening, with Fridays at 3:00 PM, and as early as 12:00 Noon on Saturdays and Sundays. We definitely worth a stop by Exposition Park if you find yourself in Disney Springs to see what the Disney Food Trucks have to offer! 9. Even though Governor of California Gavin Newsom exempted Disneyland from the issuance he gave earlier today stating groups of 250 people or more should be postponed until the end of March in the state of California, Disneyland has just announced they’ll be closing this weekend. Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland We’ve just learned The Disneyland Resort will close temporarily beginning Saturday, March 14th. 10. While eagerly awaiting today’s 5:00 PM opening of the new Hot Diggity Dogs Food Truck, we figured it was as good a time as any to pay a visit to D-Luxe Burger during our trip to Disney Springs. D-Luxe Burger And our visit was greeted with a new Gelato Shake on the menu! You’ll find it listed under the Beverages with Alcohol section of the menu: the Bananas Foster Shake ($12.00), tucked in between pics of the Seasonal Irish Cream Shake and the D-Luxe classic Smoked Bourbon Shake. Bananas Foster Shake on D-Luxe Burger Menu Are you ready for this? The Bananas Foster Shake is made with Bols Creme de Banana liqueur, toasted marshmallow flavor, crushed graham crackers, caramel and — of course! — vanilla gelato. Bananas Foster Shake Let’s cut to the chase: the banana flavor from the Bols in this bevvy is very pronounced and not at all subtle… which, for our fellow banana fans, is a VERY good thing! And the crushed grahams are dispersed throughout the drink (as opposed to simply sprinkled on top), delivering a fun crunch with every sip. Bananas Foster Shake The sweetness is nicely balanced with the generous drizzle of buttery caramel. Bananas Foster Shake Literally the only “problem” is that it is so sweet and smooth, the Bananas Foster Shake goes down fast! You may be tempted to drink it quickly, but we encourage you to savor this decadent and creamy banana treat! If you love anything banana, stop on by D-Luxe Burger to give this one a try. You just may see us there grabbing another one . Would you like to try the Bananas Foster Shake? Please let us know with a comment! 11. It was announced Thursday morning that Gavin Newsom, the Governor of California, has recommended the canceling of gatherings of 250 or more people. Olaf, Anna, and Elsa A few industries and institutions received special exemptions from this order, notably the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. Governor Newsom spoke with Disney’s former CEO Bob Iger on March 11th and came to the conclusion that Disneyland could continue to remain open and will not be required to close in order to comply with the order. Mickey Float in Magic Happens Parade This comes as the Governor strongly urged all public non-essential sporting events, conferences, concerts, and other gatherings be canceled through at least the end of March. According to the Governor, theme parks, casinos, and theaters are exempt due to the “complexity of their unique circumstances.” Pixar Pal-A-Round and Incredicoaster Currently, Disneyland has taken measures in preventing the spread of coronavirus, including the addition of hand sanitizer stations throughout the parks near security checkpoints and some dining locations. They have also added a feature to their app that will show guests where to locate these stations. 12. With so much uncertainty in the world right now centered around the Coronavirus, you may be asking yourself, “I wonder what the crowds are like at Disney World?” Epcot This Afternoon Well since we’re at the parks every day, we’ll take you around and show you how things are looking today at Disney World! We’ve been keeping you up to date with how Disney is responding the Coronavirus pandemic, including Disney World recently placing several additional hand-washing stations throughout the parks as well as updating their My Disney Experience app to include a map and turn-by-turn directions to the nearest hand sanitizer location. Portable Hand-Washing Station in Animal Kingdom Today But right now, we want to take you around Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Epcot so you can see for yourself how Coronavirus may (or may not) be impacting the crowd levels at both of these parks. First, let’s start at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Crowds Spring break is in full swing at Disney World this week with many families enjoying their Disney World vacations. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Crowds Today To us, these crowds appear to be pretty typical for an average day at Disney World this time of year, but we also know how crowded or not crowded a park “looks” or “feels” isn’t a reliable indicator for how many guests are actually here! That’s why to really understand how many people are here at Disney World today, we’re going to check the posted standby wait times! Disney’s Animal Kingdom Crowds Today In Pandora: The World of Avatar you’ll find Flight of Passage — arguably Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s most popular ride. Standby wait times generally exceed 2 hours on the reg for this headliner. Today around noon, the posted Standby wait time for Flight of Passage was 135 minutes while Na’vi River Journey had a posted wait time of 105 minutes. Pandora World of Avatar Wait Times Today Kilimanjaro Safaris, another major attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, posted standby wait time of 120 minutes around 12 PM today. Kilimanjaro Safaris Today Meanwhile, in Dino Land U.S.A., Dinosaur showed a 60 minute wait time. Dinosaur Today Expedition Everest had some operational delays in the early afternoon today, but when it came back online, the My Disney Experience app showed a posted standby wait time of 120 minutes. Expedition Everest Wait Time All in all, these standby wait times seem to be on par with what we normally expect for this time of year and we have yet to see these numbers take a noticeable dip. Epcot Crowds Heading over to Epcot, we noticed Spaceship Earth had a 40-minute standby wait time around 12:30 PM. Since the ride will be closing soon to undergo what could be a lengthy and drastic refurb, we suspect a lot of folks are trying to get in one last ride before the classic attraction is refurbed. Spaceship Earth Today Click here to read about what we hope stays in Spaceship Earth after it’s “reimagining”! Around the same time, The Seas with Nemo and Friends had a 20 minute standby wait time. The Seas Today Click here to read more about the new Finding Dory’s Friends scavenger hunt at Epcot! And a little closer to 1 PM, we saw the standby wait time for Soarin’ Around the World was 40 minutes which is about average for this time of day. Soarin’ Today And at around 3:30 PM today, Frozen Ever After showed a standby wait time of 60 minutes in the My Disney Experience app. Frozen Standby Wait Time We hope we’ve provided you with some insight into how the Disney parks are being impacted by these uncertain times. As guests at the parks today, it’s clear to us that Disney World is taking this situation very seriously and is doing everything in their power to keep all who come here happy and healthy. We’ll be back soon with more crowd level and standby wait times to report, so stay tuned! Here’s What We Know About Coronavirus and Travel To Walt Disney World and Disneyland Were you expecting the Disney World parks to be less crowded today in light of recent news? 13. If you’ve been following DFB for a while, you may remember one of our favorite #onthelist cupcakes — the Cotton Top Tamarin Cupcake in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. We loved this cupcake for its over-the-top decorations and rich chocolate flavors. You may also remember that the Cotton-Top Tamarin Cupcake mysteriously vanished from Animal Kingdom a while back. Creature Comforts Well, guess what, friends?! We’re SO excited to tell y’all that the Cotton-Top Tamarin Cupcake is BACK in Animal Kingdom! We spotted this cupcake and Creature Comforts today and instantly noticed that Cotton-Top looks a little…different. Cotton-Top Tamarin Cupcake Gone is the chocolate lollipop decoration that WOWED us in years past! This isn’t the first time this cupcake has received a makeover, but this latest transformation is very noticeable. Here’s what the OLD Cotton-Top Tamarin Cupcake looked like! To us, this new version isn’t as cute as what it used to be, but that doesn’t mean he can’t still be delicious! Cotton-Top Tamarin Cupcake This new Cotton-Top Tamarin Cupcake is a chocolate cake with chocolate filling. It’s topped with a buttercream frosting. Cotton-Top Tamarin Cupcake The leaves on the cupcake taste like your typical icing… Cotton-Top Tamarin Cupcake …and there are chocolate pearls covering the back of the cupcake! Cotton-Top Tamarin Cupcake Cotton-Top’s face is printed on a piece of white chocolate. Clearly, this new version of the cupcake has much less white chocolate than it did when it was topped with a lollipop. Overall, however, this cupcake is still as tasty as it ever was! We appreciate the addition of the filling and the chocolate pearls because they add even more chocolate flavor and a bit of texture! Cotton-Top Tamarin Cupcake Not only are we glad to see that this cupcake is just as yummy as it was before, but we’re also happy to see these adorable animals being represented in the parks again! Cotton-Top Tamarin Cupcake Grab one of these cuties at Creature Comforts in Animal Kingdom for $5.99 or a Disney Dining Plan Snack Credit. And if you’re looking for something a little more ‘bite’ size, the Cotton-Top Tamarin Cakepops are still available! 20. In recent days, we’ve seen Disney World and Disneyland enforce stricter cleaning schedules and implement several new initiatives to protect guests and Cast Members from the Coronavirus. Hand Sanitizer Station at Spaceship Earth Yesterday, we noticed Disney World had added several portable hand washing stations throughout the parks, and today we learned several updates have been made to the My Disney Experience app to help guests stay informed and take extra precautions against the spread of Coronavirus. Opening the My Disney Experience App (or the Disneyland app) on your portable electronic device, you can access these new features by tapping on the search tool (which appears as a magnifying glass at the bottom of the screen) and entering in “Coronavirus” or “Hand Sanitizer Locations” into the search bar. You’ll be taken to this screen which provides guests with information regarding the Coronavirus as well as a Hand Sanitizer Locator feature. Screenshot My Disney Experience App The My Disney Experience app shows each Disney World park’s First Aid center has information regarding the Coronavirus available for guests to learn more about the infection. Screenshot My Disney Experience App The app is also now enabled to direct guests to the nearest hand sanitizing station. Screenshot My Disney Experience App These locations, which will provide free hand sanitizer to guests, can be found at the parks’ First Aid and Baby Care centers, as well as throughout the Disney World resorts, restaurants, and other recreational and entertainment venues including the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and Disney Springs. Disney is also taking the same precautions in Disneyland, and there are multiple hand sanitizer locations around those parks and resorts, too. While you can always as a nearby Cast Member where the nearest hand sanitizer location is, this new feature will prove to be especially useful. Screenshot My Disney Experience App The My Disney Experience app and the Disneyland app will even give you turn-by-turn directions in the park to the nearest hand sanitizer location when you enable location services. Screenshot My Disney Experience App You can also view a map of the hand sanitizer locations using the app. Note: at this time the portable hand washing stations we spotted yesterday at the parks have yet to appear in this new feature, so there are additional locations in the park to sanitize your hands that may not show up in the app. Screenshot My Disney Experience App Disney World and Disneyland also have several restrooms for hand washing as well which you can locate within each location’s app. Wanna know about travel to Disney World and Disneyland? 25. We’re always curious about the future of the Disney parks, and that means looking into what kind of inventions and innovations Disney has come up with! ©Disney The Walt Disney Company files patents ALL THE TIME. They’re constantly doing work with digital platforms, augmented reality, drones, and robots (the future is here people). Most of their inventions are for use outside of the theme parks, but we can usually dig up a few inventions that could have in-park applications. Quake Plate Floor System First off, we spotted a patent for a Haptic Floor System with Quake Plate. That’s pretty much a fancy way of saying that Disney has invented a floor surface that can be programmed to quake as if under stress from something — perhaps a natural disaster, and explosion, or even the Hulk punching the ground. You never know. In fact, the patent even cites this invention as being used to simulate a strong character striking the floor, or a large animal or robot walking or running by a person. ©Disney We could DEFINITELY see this invention being used in Disney parks. The patent even cites “theme parks” as a likely location that the tech could be applied. We’re thinking a haptic floor might be a good addition to a future Avengers Campus or Star Wars experience, and who knows what else! Robot Hand-Shake Technology Although not a new patent, we also spotted a recent research publication about some pretty neat technology that Disney has been working on with robot interactions. Basically, Disney has been working on how to make robots shake hands in a more human-like way. WAAAAHHH? The tech they’ve come up with helps a robot to understand the grip force applied by humans and return a handshake with the same force. ©Disney UM…. are we going to be shaking hands with ROBOTS in the near future? This invention certainly doesn’t seem like something that would just be used for the film considering a realistic handshake can be created with an actor or CGI. Maybe we’ll be shaking hands with robotic characters in the Play! Pavilion, or maybe we’ll be getting chummy with animatronic Nick Fury on the upcoming Avengers ride in Disneyland? This tech could also be further off from application but we frankly think it’s crazy cool that Disney is working on it in the first place. ©Disney Regardless of what these mysterious files are for, we’re glad we get to ponder about the future of Disney parks! As always, we’ll keep an eye out on the patents that Disney is putting out and make sure that we pass along any info that might impact your trip (or get you excited about the future of Disney). Until next time! Want to see more SECRET projects at Disney World right now? Click here! What do you think these neat inventions could be used for? Tell us in the comments!
