  5. California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort is one of the most sought-after reservations in all of Walt Disney World. California Grill Not only does this signature dining restaurant have some phenomenal sushi and a bright and airy atmosphere, it also has some SERIOUSLY incredible views. The stunning sights are best seen from the outside observation deck, located on a walkway just by the restaurant! Since Walt Disney World has reopened with new health and safety measures, we wanted to see if guests could still step out onto the deck and what that experience looks like. View of Magic Kingdom From Disney’s Contemporary Resort The first thing that you notice when stepping out onto the deck are blue social distancing markers, designating where groups should stand. This system is similar to the markers that we’ve seen on the ferryboat going to Magic Kingdom. California Grill observation deck with social distancing markers Once you get out on to the deck, of course, the views of the Most Magical Place on Earth are still totally and completely spectacular. You can see the newly pink Cinderella Castle in all her glory as well as Astro Orbiter, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and the rest of the Magic Kingdom! View of Magic Kingdom From Disney’s Contemporary Resort One of the biggest differences you’ll notice beyond the social distancing markers is that there are no fireworks happening at the Magic Kingdom (or the rest of Walt Disney World) right now. When Disney announced that the resort would reopen, they also announced certain experiences, like nighttime shows, would not be happening right away. View from California Grill So, while you won’t see (or hear) Happily Ever After right now, you still CAN get some seriously sweet selfies from the deck after eating scrumptious sushi! Jungle Cruise Cookie Jar at Disney Home Like the Jungle Cruise Funko Pop and Jungle Cruise tree ornaments, this ADORABLE new cookie jar features a cartoon caricature-style design. The white cookie jar is in the shape of a Jungle Cruise boat, and it features wood-colored trim. Jungle Cruise Cookie Jar This cookie jar is delightfully detailed, and features a mustachioed Jungle Cruise skipper on the side speaking into a microphone. There’s no need to travel for niles and niles and niles to get this kitchen accessory. We spotted the cookie jar at Disney Home, and it cost $55. 7. Back in June, Disney Cruise Line extended the suspension of its U.S. departures for Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy through mid-September. Now it’s starting to look likely sailings could be postponed again. ©Disney Today, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have just extended their “No Sail Order” through the end of September which means U.S. cruise lines will not be able to disembark from U.S. ports until October at the earliest. The CDC’s “No Sail Order and Suspension of Further Embarkation” policy prevents cruise ships from departing with passengers from the U.S. due to the global health crisis. It was first issued on March 13th and was later extended through to July 24th (when it was set to expire before it was extended again). ©Disney Disney Cruise Line has previously canceled its U.S. itineraries through September 15th voluntarily. European sailings are canceled through October 2nd, 2020, and Canadian sailings are canceled through September 14th, 2020. Disney Cruise Line Although they haven’t made an announcement yet, it seems due to this very recent development the Disney Cruise Line could be cancelling more of its scheduled U.S. itineraries soon. We’ll provide you with more details on this developing situation as soon as they’re released. Disney Cruise Line is now offering cruise date flexibility. Click here to learn more! 8. Though the Downtown Disney shopping district has begun a phased reopening, Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure, and the Disneyland hotels have delayed their reopening and have yet to announce a reopening date. Downtown Disney! Now, Disney has an update for guests who were hoping to visit in August. Guests who have a Disneyland Resort hotel reservation between now and August 8th are receiving notification that they should modify or cancel their hotel reservations or vacation packages. ©Disney Disneyland originally proposed a hotel reopening date of July 23rd and a theme park reopening on July 17th, but that plan did not get state and local government approval as the global health crisis is still greatly affecting Southern California. Sleeping Beauty Castle Though reservations are currently canceled through August 8th, that does NOT mean Disneyland hotels or theme parks are reopening on August 9th. Currently, there is still no timeline. Disney has just stated that these experiences “remain closed and will reopen at a later date.” Pixar Pier Of course, as soon as Disneyland does have its reopening dates confirmed, we will let you know! 10. We are BACK in EPCOT now that Disney World has started its phased reopening! One of the biggest differences when it comes to planning a 2020 vacation to Disney World is the new rule that states all guests above the age of two MUST wear a face mask. Orange Bird Wearing a Mini Mask This requirement has stirred up a lot of questions regarding the logistics of wearing a mask all day in the theme parks. Despite us having the experience of what it’s like to wear a mask all day, we still had some important questions when it came to visiting EPCOT. We’re talkin’ about logistics of EATING around World Showcase, especially with the 2020 Taste of EPCOT Food and Wine Festival now in full swing! Perhaps the biggest question on our mind was, “How can we safely wear a mask if we are eating and drinking around World Showcase?” Enjoying the food and beverages throughout World Showcase is a tradition most often done on foot: with a wide variety of counter service locations and food kiosks in each Pavilion, guests love to hop from country to country and indulge in some yummy food and drinks on-the-go! ALL the Mac and Cheese That tradition, however, would make for a LOT of pulling your mask on and off throughout the day, which is generally advised against as experts recommend minimizing the amount of times you touch your mask. Think about all the food and drinks you like to try on a typical day at EPCOT…that’s a lot of bites and sips you would need to lower your mask for! Liquid Nitro Cake Pops In Disney Springs, we’ve known for a while now that guests could remove their mask temporarily to take a bite of food or sip on their beverage, but we weren’t sure if this rule would translate in the theme parks especially in EPCOT where ALL WE DO is take bites of food and sips of our beverage! Foods From the Japan Booth at the 2020 EPCOT Food and Wine Festival You are allowed to walk and eat, but you must be ACTIVELY eating while you are walking. Guests are highly encouraged to sit or stand and eat at the small tables and benches located around World Showcase. Disney added more seating areas in order to encourage guests to stay stationary while their masks are down. World ShowPlace Seating Areas Many guests were lowering their mask to take a bite or drink and immediately pulling it back up. You can fully remove your mask to eat and drink if you are at a table or bench. Otherwise, you must keep it covering your mouth and nose when you’re not eating or drinking. China Yes, it’s a lot of pulling your mask up and down, but honestly, we weren’t particularly bothered by it. Tables were readily available in most cases so, if we really wanted to chow down, we would grab a table and remove our mask for a few minutes to eat. Most guests we saw were complying with these rules as well. Cast Members ARE asking guests to cover their faces if they see that their mask is off or below their nose, so be mindful if you pull your mask down to recover when finished eating. We’ll keep you updated as we learn about more health and safety protocols at Disney World! For now, go into EPCOT knowing you can eat and drink to your heart’s content, but if you walk around, prepare to be pulling that mask up and down a lot! 12. Walt Disney World has been making cuts, delaying construction projects, and making health and safety changes around the parks recently. Cinderella Castle This week alone, Disney made an official statement that the Spaceship Earth renovation and the new Mary Poppins attraction are being postponed. We just learned three new attractions that will allegedly close permanently. According to Reporter Scott Gustin, Animal Kingdom’s Rivers of Light water show, Primeval Whirl, and Stitch’s Great Escape at Magic Kingdom are permanently closed. Stitch’s Great Escape has been temporarily closed for some time. The building was being used as a Stich meet n’ greet location prior to closing. Primeval Whirl has been operating as a seasonal attraction for some time. There is no further speculation about what the attractions or the venues might be used for in the future. Stitch’s Great Escape We will continue to keep you updated as we learn more information about any possible closures including these attractions. Be sure to follow along with us as we learn more! 15. Can you believe all four Disney World theme parks are finally open for the first time in many months? Tree of Life It’s been a totally surreal experience being back at Disney World, but we’ve been on a mission to see how Disney is addressing the health and safety concerns of every guest and Cast Member inside the newly reopened parks. In fact, Disney World has started sending out surveys to guests who have recently visited the parks to see what they thought of the changes. We received this email a few days ago after visiting Animal Kingdom asking if we would like to participate in the online questionnaire. Screenshot of Animal Kingdom Survey We’re pretty used to receiving these types of surveys in our inboxes, but this time, Disney World has added a bunch of new questions related to the modifications they’ve made. If you’ve visited the parks recently, Disney might be asking you for your feedback too! Screenshot of Animal Kingdom Survey We were asked about our general arrival experience at Disney’s Animal Kingdom which included parking and screening. Thanks to their new bag check area and screening procedures, the only thing we were instructed to remove from our bags were umbrellas — everything else can stay in your bag! Screenshot of Animal Kingdom Survey We also had more typical questions like how likely it is that we would be returning to Disney World in the next 5 years were still on the survey. Screenshot of Animal Kingdom Survey But here’s where we started to get into the meat and potatoes of the new survey. It was time to give our honest opinion on new operational changes Disney has instituted at the reopened park. There’s a series of questions pertaining to physical distancing measures, mandatory face masks, hand washing, and enhanced sanitation — basically all of the safety precautions Disney has implemented so far. Disney wanted to know how much of an impact they had been on our trip. Screenshot of Animal Kingdom Survey Since character meet and greets at all the parks have been paused, other forms of entertainment are being offered. We were asked what we thought of the new Character Cavalcades and other groups we saw. Screenshot of Animal Kingdom Survey We were asked how we felt about expansive health and safety procedures including temperature screenings, mandatory face masks, plexiglass, and social distancing markers. Screenshot of Animal Kingdom Survey We were also asked for our general impressions of the behavior of other guests. Screenshot of Animal Kingdom Survey There were several questions asking how crowded the parks felt to us. This survey ended up being quite long — A LOT longer than the standard Disney World survey we’re used to filling out, so plan on carving out some extra time to put your thoughts together for the much lengthier version! Screenshot of Animal Kingdom Survey Some of the questions also related to your personal opinion about the current state of the global health crisis. Overall, this is much more detailed and in-depth. But hopefully, it means that Disney can continue to push to make sure the parks are as safe and comfortable for guests as they can possibly be during this time. 18. You can bet that we spent our morning trying to nab a boarding group for Rise of the Resistance. Plexiglass Barriers on Rise of the Resistance Rise of the Resistance is the super high-demand ride in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge — even in the limited capacity reopening days of Hollywood Studios! If there’s one thing that’s no fun, it’s running into a glitch when boarding groups are loading. Today, when we were trying to grab our spot in the Virtual Queue, we ran into a glitch that’s pretty tiny — but it could mean the difference between you getting a boarding group or not! We popped onto My Disney Experience right at 10AM to try to grab a spot in the first Virtual Queue window. These spots have been filling up in under a minute in some cases, so we needed to move fast. To our surprise, when we got to the “Create Your Party” screen. Thus meaning our name wasn’t pre-selected to join a group! Rise Glitch We had to rush to get our name selected and by the time everything was sorted out, groups were all full! See what we mean, this little glitch could get in the way of your ride on Rise. To our surprise, this happened to us AGAIN at 1PM and caused us to miss the window to grab a boarding group. Luckily, there is more queue window today, so hopefully, we have a little more luck later! Rise Preshow Remember, if you have any trouble with the Virtual Queue system, take a screenshot and reach out to a Cast Member. They may be able to help! 19. We attended the grand reopening of Disney’s Hollywood Studios yesterday and since we have blazing fast fingers we were able to snag a reservation for Rise of the Resistance when the first batch of boarding groups was released at 10AM! Plexiglass Barriers In fact, the boarding groups for Rise of the Resistance filled up quickly this morning as well, but we were able to secure a spot in the virtual queue once again. However, when we checked our boarding group status today, we noticed something was very different! Here’s a look at a previous Rise boarding group screenshot for comparison’s sake. As you can see, we got into Group 40 and all we saw were some green bars that seemed to be filling up as our arrival window was approaching. Not a very accurate measure of time, but at least it’s some indication your turn is coming up! Boarding Group Status But as of today, there’s now an estimated return time feature that tells you approximately how many minutes you’ll have to wait until it’s your time to ride Rise of the Resistance! Pretty NEAT! We rode Rise of the Resistance yesterday for the first time since the closures — see what our experience was like HERE! 20. It’s officially Food and Wine time in Disney World now that EPCOT has reopened! America Gardens Theatre And even though the Eat to the Beat concert series has been canceled this year, you can still munch to some music during the Taste of EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival in 2020. Let’s take look at some of the special entertainment EPCOT has in store for its guests. Musical Performances Earlier, Disney announced some of EPCOT’s classic entertainment offerings would be taking the main stage at the American Adventure pavilion. Mariachi Cobre and JAMMitors are two popular acts you’ll normally see in other parts of EPCOT, but now you’ll find them performing at the America Gardens Theatre throughout the day! America Gardens Theatre In fact, we were able to catch a performance of Mariachi Cobre as we happened by! The musicians were just about to take the stage and were wearing their face masks while waving to fans. Mariachi Cobre They’re still performing The Story of Coco, but in a socially-distanced way! They have a lot more elbow room to strum and play their instruments over here. In fact, we could get used to sitting down and watching them play while sitting in the shade instead of standing in the sun at the Mexico pavilion. Mariachi Cobre As you can see, every-other row has been closed off so guests can socially distance themselves. Since this is not a relaxation station, masks must be worn at all times. America Gardens Theatre Some seats have also been marked as unavailable so that different parties in the same row and physically distance themselves. 21. Getting your kids to eat fruits and vegetables can be tricky. After all, with names like Brussel sprouts, horned melon, and dragonfruit these foods can be almost as scary as monsters! Sully and Mike on Pixar Place But, Mike and Scully from Disney’s Monster’s, Inc. are here to help prove that vegetables and fruits can be fun! Dole Food Company is teaming up with the Disney franchise for its “Fruits and Veggies Don’t Have To Be So Scary” campaign. The goal is to take the scare factor out of fruits and veggies for kids (and adults) — from the most common items like bananas to the more obscure like artichokes. Artichoke Toast with California Olive Tapenade ©Disney “Whether it’s their angry names and thorny exteriors, or simply a misperception about taste and preparation, produce paranoia has become a very real phenomenon,” said William Goldfield, Dole’s director of communications. Dole has added stickers of Mike and Sully on millions of Dole bananas and Pineapples throughout North America. We wonder if we’ll see them at ‘Ohana? ‘Ohana Dole also teamed up with Disney and Pixar to created recipes inspired by Monster’s Inc. characters including Chicken-Stuffed Roz Heads. 22. We’re hanging out in a reopened Hollywood Studios this morning, and we’re not the only ones. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway When we got into the park this morning, we noticed that most folks had two priorities — get a Rise of the Resistance boarding group and get in line for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. Rise boarding groups were gone in under one minute at the 10AM release and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is dealing with some serious demand of its own. The queue FILLED UP. With social distance guidelines, queues tend to take up a lot more space with the same amount of people. That means that when a wait time gets high, those lines get loooooong. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway has held first place for the highest wait times we’ve seen in any of the reopened Disney World parks. Today, it skyrocketed to an over two-hour wait within a few minutes of the park being open. Wowza. With social distancing, such a long wait actually FILLED the queue! Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway Wait Time We noticed that Cast Members at the end of the line weren’t allowing any more guests to join the queue. That makes sense considering it already stretched across the Chinese Theater and all throughout the courtyard! No worries, though! Guests were able to join the queue as soon as space was available. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway So, if you’re hoping for a whirl on Runaway Railway, don’t panic if that queue fills up! Just because you can’t join the line RIGHT then, doesn’t mean you won’t be able to in a little while! Go grab a coffee or hop in line on another ride and try back. They’ll let you in as soon as the queue area has the space for you! We have seen that the wait times for Runaway Railway tend to drop a bit after the initial morning rush. So if you aren’t looking for a 2-hour wait, maybe hop on a different attraction first and circle back around to Runaway Railway. 25. Disney World is officially reopened with new health measures, limited capacities, and mandatory theme park reservations. Disney World As you may have noticed, when the Disney Park Pass reservation system launched, Annual Passholder availability went pretty quickly. Since then, the pickings have been slim for any Annual Passholder who wants to visit in the next month or so. A few days ago, Disney announced that they would be increasing availability for Annual Passholders and now that availability is here! Just a few days ago, there was NO availability for Passholders in July — that means no chance of getting into ANY park on ANY day. August had some options still, but days (especially weekends) were going quick. Annual Passholder Availability Before Today Now, the added availability is live! As you can see, Disney added availability every day of July for all of the parks except for Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Hollywood Studios has been an extremely high-demand option with the relatively recent openings of Rise of the Resistance and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. July Availability August has more options too! If you want to head to Hollywood Studios, you’ll have to wait for the end of August, but otherwise, parks are available again! Keep in mind that the added availability does not reflect any change in capacity numbers. August Availability And there ya have it! This should hopefully give Annual Passes more of an opportunity to get into the parks. Keep an eye on DFB for more updates about the Disney Park Pass and Disney World’s reopening!
