Disney World has reopened, and we’re slowly seeing suspended offerings return. Mickey and Pluto! Prior to the reopening of the theme parks and resort hotels, Disney unexpectedly canceled all Advance Dining Reservations and suspended the Disney Dining Plan. Though dining reservations have returned (with a window of 60 days rather than 180 days out to book), the Disney Dining Plan is still unavailable. When could the Disney Dining Plan come back to Disney World? Here’s what we know. The Disney Dining Plan is an offering in Disney World that allows guests to pre-pay for a select number of meals and snacks for their their vacation. The plans are available to those booking a Vacation Package at a Disney World hotel. All guests in the same room must be on the same Dining Plan. Each of the Dining Plans grants each guest a specified number of snack credits and fast food and/or sit down meal credits per day along with a refillable mug for each guest. This means guests who opt to get the Dining Plan can pre-pay for most of their food costs before their trip (except for gratuity at table-service spots). Want to know more about the Disney Dining Plan? Check out our FAQ! When was the Disney Dining Plan suspended? On May 28th, in the midst of the park closures, we got the surprising news that Disney was canceling all Advance Dining Reservations and the Disney Dining Plan for the foreseeable future. As we mentioned, the ability to book dining reservations has since resumed, but the Disney Dining Plan has not. California Grill As far as we know, this was due to unknown restaurant availability and limited capacity upon reopening. Disney wasn’t sure if they’d be able to accommodate the amount of plans that had been sold. Even if more restaurants had been open, the capacities would have seriously limited the number of guests who would be able to dine. With restricted options, those who had pre-purchased the Dining Plan may not have felt that it was worth the money they had paid for it if they had limited options available to them. Bread Service at Sanaa! In lieu of the canceled plans, eligible guests were refunded or given a significant discount on their vacation packages to make up for the cancellation. Otherwise, new sales of the Disney Dining Plan were halted and we haven’t seen them return. Click here to read about the cancellation of the Disney Dining Plan. Is the Disney Dining Plan being sold with 2021 vacation packages? The Disney Dining Plan and dining reservations weren’t the only major suspension at the time either. During the closures, Disney underwent a series of systemic cancellations including hotel booking, the sale of new park tickets, and the Park Hopper ticket add-on. New park tickets are now being sold for 2020 (without the Park Hopper option) and 2021 (with the Park Hopper option). If Disney is confident enough about the return of Park Hopping to sell the Park Hopper add-on in 2021, could we see something similar for the Disney Dining Plan? Beaches & Cream Milkshakes As it turns out, no. The Disney Dining Plan is not currently available at all — and that includes 2021 bookings. It’s possible that Disney is waiting to confirm when availability will reopen for all of their restaurants, or waiting until limited capacity is no longer a game-changer for dining. When the Dining Plan IS brought back, those who have upcoming reservations might be able to modify their package to add it on if they choose. Click here to learn more about 2021 ticket sales. What needs to happen for the Disney Dining Plan to return? For one, Disney will need to reopen enough restaurants and capacity will need to increase enough that the value of the plans is worthwhile for guests. Most likely, we’d need to see restaurants operating at more than 50% capacity. Topolino’s Terrace Dining Room Beyond that, Disney will need to feel assured that they can deliver on the Dining Plans that they’re selling. This means that they’ll need to be able to make reliable projections about vacation package sales and hotel capacity. If they need to rollback capacities or adjust measures, these plans could lose their value. Disney most likely won’t risk this until the health situation stabilizes. Le Cellier Steak They also may need to adjust the way the Dining Plans are sold to account for the lower capacities in restaurants. This could come in the form of modifications to the actual plans, fewer plans being sold, and even price changes. Click here to learn more about the open restaurants in Disney World! Here’s an interesting note and hope for the future! As of now, the Disney Dining Plan suspension is indefinite. Disney’s language so far hasn’t given us much of a clue as to when or if the Dining Plan options will return, but we have noticed some signs that it will. For instance, many of the Taste of EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival menus have Disney Dining Plan logos. This may mean that Disney is hopeful that the Dining Plan has a chance of coming back before the festival ends. Remember though, the end date of the festival still hasn’t been revealed at this time. Many standard menus still have notes about what qualifies as a Dining Plan snack as well. It continues to be a thrilling sea turtle nesting season at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, a Disney Vacation Club Resort! We are so fortunate to be working on this beach, which represents one of the most important areas for sea turtle nesting in the country. Disney Conservation Team Wildlife has recorded more than 18,000 sea turtle nests since we began our field conservation program in 2003. This year, all three species are having an excellent nesting season on our nesting beach. Two of those nests belong to Miss Piggy and Kermit, our superstar turtles who are participating in this year’s Tour de Turtles migration marathon. Named in honor of the release of “Muppets Now” on Disney+, these turtles are celebrating the completion of a successful nesting season and the start of an oceanic journey to their foraging grounds. Disney has collaborated with the Sea Turtle Conservancy, creator of the Tour de Turtles program, to release satellite-tagged turtles together for the last 13 years. While we have had some amazing turtle contenders over the years, we’re looking forward to watching the journeys of Miss Piggy and Kermit. Miss Piggy, a loggerhead sea turtle sponsored by our friends at Disney Cruise Line, is swimming to raise awareness about harmful plastic debris in our world’s oceans, and to encourage fans to help clean up waterways and reduce plastic waste. The reduction of plastic waste is a cause that’s very important to Disney Cruise Line. In support of The Walt Disney Company’s overall efforts to reduce the amount of single-use plastics in use, Disney Cruise Line has eliminated plastic straws, cutlery, stirrers, shopping bags and condiment packets onboard and on Disney Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island in The Bahamas. Kermit, Disney’s very first green sea turtle in the Tour de Turtles, is sponsored by Disney Conservation and is swimming to raise awareness about artificial light pollution on nesting beaches to improve conditions for mother sea turtles to lay successful nests, and for their hatchlings to find their way to the ocean. The migration race between Miss Piggy, Kermit, and the 13 other turtle competitors began on August 1 and our swimmers are off to a great start! Of course, the Tour de Turtles isn’t really about winning (although winning sure is fun). By wearing a satellite transmitter on their journey, these turtles are sharing important information that will help us to better protect their habitats, identifying exactly where they spend their time when they are not visiting Florida’s beaches to lay their eggs. They are also raising awareness about the different threats that sea turtles face in the wild, and inspiring sea turtle fans to work together to protect them and their habitats in Florida and beyond. What can you do to protect sea turtles? In honor of Miss Piggy, minimize your use of single-use plastic, and dispose properly of all trash. All waterways lead to the ocean, and plastic floating in city canals eventually ends up in the sea. To help turtles like Kermit, turn off your lights at night. Even if you don’t live near the beach, many other species like birds and bats rely on dark skies to navigate safely. Support a conservation organization with time or contributions. We’re standing next to the creepy-looking clown slide at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn which can only mean one thing… Clown Slide at Luna Park Pool …it’s time to take the plunge into a new menu item we recently spotted at Leaping Horse Libations! Even though the reopening date of Disney’s BoardWalk Inn has been pushed back, the Disney Vacation Club rooms are currently open! And that means the Luna Park Pool has plenty of hungry swimmers that need feeding! Today we saw the usual selection of cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks on the menu at the pool bar, Leaping Horse Libations. Leaping Horse Libations Menu But when we stepped right up, we noticed a new menu offering had magically appeared! That’s right — the pool bar at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn is now serving nachos — carnival-style! Carnival Nachos The new Carnival Nachos feature house-made tortilla chips covered in cheddar cheese sauce, avocado, onions, cilantro, sour cream, and pico de gallo. And although the sign didn’t mention it, extra-fine shredded cheese was added to the top of our Carnival Nachos for good measure — not that we minded! Carnival Nachos Actually, we would have loved even MORE shredded cheese on top! Luckily the nachos did have a solid serving of cheese sauce! The avocado component could’ve probably been better described as guacamole (which tasted premade), and the onion and cilantro barely made an appearance. Which could be a good thing for folks who don’t like those punchy flavors! Carnival Nachos If you’re a fan of simpler nachos (like you can find at the ballpark), these will probably suffice. But if you’re looking for something with a bit more complexity or SPICE, the Carnival Nachos might not be your favorite! Overall, these make for a decent poolside snack, but they’re not a destination-worthy menu item! Carnival Nachos If these nachos do sound like the perfect poolside treat, you can snag them for $11.79! Or if you’re looking for something a little more substantial, you could grab a reservation for Beaches and Cream across the way at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resort instead! We are in a constant state of anticipation for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy rollercoaster in EPCOT. Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is a new coaster that’s set to open sometime before Disney World’s 50th Anniversary next year. We were pumped to see progress recently, and now we know what they might be working on! We were taking a look at the building permits that Disney has filed recently and spotted a new one filed for the Guardians coaster address. Looks like Walt Disney Imagineering has filed for a “support structure installation” on the coaster. Permit Screenshot We’d LOVE to know what this structure is for. Could it be thematic elements? Or maybe the ride track? Unfortunately, we’ll have to be satisfied with the progress we can see on the OUTSIDE of the building. New Disney merch is fun to look at, and this new Disney x Coach collab is no different! Coach just launched a brand new collection featuring some of our favorite characters! Previous Coach Collaboration Coach has done several collaborations with Disney before and they’ve all been pretty cute. Do you remember these leather ears they had brought out? This new collection is just as adorable! Coach just dropped 7 purses in the new Disney X Coach line, and Coach says it’s inspired by both their vintage bags and the vintage cartoons of Disney. The characters featured are Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Bambi, and the puppies from 101 Dalmatians. The Disney x Coach Market Tote with Disney Motif comes in both Pewter/1941 Red and Brass/Black, and the red bag features Mickey Mouse while the black one features Minnie. Disney x Coach Market Tote with Disney Motif Both bags are pebbled leather, with the characters embossed on the front of the bags. These are nice-sized totes, a very classic-looking bag for Coach. Disney x Coach Market Tote with Disney Motif Red The Market Tote with Disney Motif is priced at $350. The Disney x Coach Charlie Carryall in Signature Canvas with Patches looks like the Coach bags that most people think of, the tan canvas-style purse covered in the signature “C” design. The only difference is that it’s decorated with patches of Mickey Mouse. Disney x Coach Charlie Carryall in Signature Canvas This bag only comes in the Pewter/Tan Black Multi, and costs $450. Two of the bags in this new collection are dedicated to Minnie Mouse, and one of those is the Disney x Coach Minnie Kiss-lock Bag. This bag has a vintage feel to it with the top kiss-lock, and is a compact leather bag covered in a floral print. The cutest part is that it’s top with ears! Disney x Coach Minnie Mouse Kisslock Bag This purse does come in two different colors, Brass/Chalk and Brass/Black. Disney x Coach Minnie Mouse Kisslock Bag Black This adorable little purse will set you back $450 though, so we hope you really love Minnie if you get this one! To go along with the kiss-lock purse, Coach brought out the coordinating Disney x Coach Minnie Mouse Coin Case with Floral Print. This will go great with the Minnie Mouse Kiss-lock Bag, and comes in 3 different colors: Pewter/Blossom, Brass/Black, and Brass/Chalk. Disney x Coach Coin Case As you can see, this bag is also topped with cute little ears! Disney x Coach Coin Case The floral print on this bag looks much more feminine than the other bags in the collection. Disney x Coach Coin Case This little coin purse costs $75. The only bag in the Coach collection that doesn’t feature Mickey or Minnie is the Disney x Coach Kiss-lock Frame Pouch with Disney Motif. This cute little vintage-style pouch features either Bambi characters or 101 Dalmatians characters. The Bambi bag comes in Brass/Chalk and has a floral print as well. Disney x Coach Kisslock Frame Pouch Bambi The pouch with the puppies comes in Brass/Black and features the puppies on a floral background. Disney x Coach Kisslock Frame Pouch 101 Dalmatians These little pouches come in at $175. The Disney x Coach Rogue 25 with Patches is a classic-looking Coach bag and comes in the Pewter/1941 Red color combination. It is a pebbled leather bag adorned with patches of Minnie. Disney x Coach Rogue 25 with Patches This bag features convertible straps, so it can be worn as a regular handbag or a crossbody bag. And the price for this one is $695. THE most expensive bag in this collection is the Disney x Coach Rogue with Patches. It’s a small, leather handbag that also has a convertible strap. Mickey and Minnie patches adorn this pebbled leather purse, and it only comes in the Brass/Black color combination. Disney x Coach Rogue with Patches And it’s gonna cost you $895. This is another great collaboration between Disney and Coach. Some of the pieces are more classic and practical, while the others are super feminine and whimsical. But they’re all cute! There are lots of yummy things to try at the Taste of EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival, which happens to be the longest EPCOT festival to ever take place in Disney World! Italy We’ve already munched and sipped our way around the World Showcase (a few times) to compile our Best of the Fest list for you, but today we noticed a classic festival item has just shown up at Italy’s booth! What first drew our attention to change-up was a janky-looking piece of tape on the Italy booth’s menu. We thought to ourselves, why did they cover up the “Frozen” part of “Frozen Italian Margarita” and then we were like wait…was there EVEN a Frozen Italian Margarita there to begin WITH?!? Italy Booth Menu That’s when we remembered the Italian Marg (which has been a part of EPCOT’s festival scene for what seems like forever) was strangely absent this year! The last time we enjoyed one of these mixed drinks (before today), was at EPCOT’s International Festival of the Holidays where we got one from Tuscany Holiday Kitchen for $10. Now it’s gone up a buck and costs $11. What’s even more unusual is the popular drink is only list on the booth’s large menu — the smaller menu at the stand where you order your food from doesn’t even list it! Italy Booth’s Menu But as you can see, the Italian Margarita made with Limoncello and Tequila has magically returned! A Cast Member we spoke with told us many guests were asking about it and were disappointed to learn it wasn’t available. That prompted their decision to make it available after all — even though the festival had already begun! Italian Margarita If you’ve never tried the Italian Marg, it’s got the same semi-frozen consistency as France’s La Vie en Rose Frozen Slushy. It’s not too sweet but definitely tart from that delicious splash of limoncello. This one’s a 10 out of 10 in the flavor and cool down department if you enjoy a light and bright cocktail refreshment after a heavy meal! Italian Margarita It doesn’t get much better than the Italian Marg in our book, and if ya know, ya know! Pick one up at Italy’s food booth today to celebrate its sweet return! Splash Mountain ran into a bit of trouble over the weekend! Splash Mountain After an unexplained closure for a few days, Splash Mountain reopened in Magic Kingdom — but not without a hiccup. Some guests recently reported being inside a Splash Mountain log boat when it SANK! Uh oh! Now, Disney has released a statement. Over the weekend, Twitter user @skyelaringrsoll tweeted a video of the Splash Mountain ride vehicle where she had just been seated completely submerged below the water. According to Spectrum News 13, Disney has issued the following statement through a spokesperson: The incident happened toward the end of the ride and involved five visitors. All five visitors were able to get out of the ride vehicle safely. Splash Mountain The ride has reopened without any known issues and guests are back to plummeting into the briar patch. Gran Fiesta Tour Last week after a malfunction José Carioca was temporarily removed from the Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros and we didn’t know how long the show would have to go on without him! José’s disappearance brought the Three Caballeros’ trio down to TWO! Luckily Donald and Panchito kept his spot open and didn’t go searching for a new bandmate right away! These guys are three birds of a feather, after all! The…Two Caballeros Now the Two Caballeros are finally THREE AGAIN! José has flown back after a little vacay and looks well-rested. Sports fans have had a serious eye on Disney in recent weeks. ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex Between the NBA’s season restart and the MLS is Back tournament, Disney World is home to a big piece of the return of live sports. Of course, that’s not Disney’s ONLY collection to sports — the company also owns ESPN, and it looks like they might’ve invented something NEAT for sports fans. We were persuing Disney patents (as we do) when we spotted a new one for “event enhancement using augmented reality effects.” Hmm…okay, we’re interested. The new invention uses a small augmented reality device like these glasses. Patent Screenshot Guests at a live sports game would be able to wear the augmented reality device to be able to see animations on the field. Think about the line of scrimmage or animations of plays when you watch football on TV — this tech could give us all that in person! Patent Screenshot Wow! That sounds super interesting and high tech. Of course, Disney is often making strides in the augmented reality department, but we could see this tech adding some serious value to watching sports live. The Nordic gods must be smiling over the new Viking Mickey Ears that were spotted over the weekend in EPCOT! Shortly after we arrived, however, we were informed by a Cast Member the Viking Mickey Ears were no longer in stock. She said they had about two dozen, but sadly, they were gone in a flash! A lot has changed at EPCOT since the park reopened last month! From plexiglass barriers being installed on some of the rides to Cast Members walking around with face mask reminder signs, some of the differences have been night and day! World Showcase at EPCOT Others have been less obvious though and you really have to look hard to find them! For instance, there’s been a slew of menu changes lately and today we spotted a pretty big switch-up at one of our favorite restaurants over at the World Showcase! La Cantina de San Angel is a popular spot to sit back and relax for a spell thanks to its gorgeous outdoor patio overlooking the World Showcase Lagoon — not to mention this place is known for serving up some tasty Mexican cuisine and margaritas too. It’s so popular, in fact, it almost took home the crown in our DFB Quick Service Restaurant Throw Down before it was beaten by Aloha Isle. La Cantina de San Angel Today, we noticed something looked a little different on their menu! Previously, La Cantina de San Angel served its Churros with a side of caramel for maximum deliciousness. Now they’ve switched out their caramel sauce for a chocolate hazelnut spread. Aka Nutella! La Cantina de San Angel If you’re not familiar with Nutella, it’s a yummy chocolate hazelnut spread that’s featured in another one of our favorite goodies at Magic Kingdom — the Nutella Fresh Fruit Waffle Sandwich at Sleepy Hollow! We were pretty stoked to get our hands on a cup of the rich Nutella to dunk our churros in, HOWEVER, when our order arrived, our Nutella cup was missing! Churros at La Cantina de San Angel A Cast Member told us they ran out of the dipping sauce and unfortunately they wouldn’t have any in stock until later this afternoon! For now, we’ll just have to imagine we’re enjoying all this sugary goodness with our favorite chocolate hazelnut spread which hey, you win some, you lose some. Ah, the world where mouse rules apply! Welcome to Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway! Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is still SUPER fresh in Disney World, and though this new attraction is super high demand, it seems like Disney might still be doing some work on the ride building. We spotted some new construction permits for the Chinese Theater in Hollywood Studios! Both permits we noticed last month were filed by Walt Disney Imagineering. The first one is for a “support structure installation” with a stage design firm. We’re not sure if this is for the Runaway Railway attraction, but we DO know that it’s filed for the address of the Chinese Theater. Permit Screenshot Then, we later saw a permit for “Package 1 work” at the same location, mentioning “Project M.” We haven’t seen any new construction in the area, but we’re DEFINITELY wondering what Disney is working on.
