  1. It’s a little less than two weeks past the day that Avengers Campus was supposed to open at Disneyland Resort on July 18th. ©Disney Bavarian Pretzel And while we were looking forward to munching on foot-long candy bars and quantum pretzels right about now, we’re still excited to try these delicious treats when Avengers Campus does open at Disney California Adventure! Disney has stated that shortly after Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park get back on their feet, we can expect to see (and eat!) all the new goodies of the new Marvel-themed land we’ve been priming our tastebuds for. But, until that day comes, we’ve got just the Marvel foodie fix for you! Handbag designer Danielle Nicole has just shared a sneak peek of two new Marvel-inspired designs the brand will be releasing next week! Check out this Captain America Donut Bag! It looks just like the superhero’s shield…if it was frosted with icing and covered with red, white, and blue sprinkles! Um, and does the strap even say, “Donut Give Up”? My word, this one’s going to be hard to pass up! ©Danielle Nicole But don’t make up your mind just yet! Not until you see this Captain America Backpack that looks like a melty popsicle! This bag is so sweet, we think even Captain America would be proud to tote his gear around in it. ©Danielle Nicole The new Marvel X Danielle Nicole collection will be released on Wednesday, August 5th at 11AM EST! Disneyland Paris has resumed construction on its Marvel hotel! Click here to learn more! What do you think of these new Marvel food-themed bags? 2. Häagen-Dazs is celebrating its “diamond” anniversary with a brand new flavor and a brand new sundae! Häagen-Dazs After hearing about it’s 60th Birthday treat, we stopped by Häagen-Dazs today at Disney Springs to see the new Birthday Cake flavor for ourselves, and to try the new Birthday Cake Dazzler Sundae! Keep in mind that this special ice cream flavor (and sundae) is a little under-the-radar! While we were perusing the menu, we noticed that the new flavor was nowhere to be found! Häagen-Dazs Menu Their flavor board also does not include Birthday Cake (although there are plenty of other delicious flavors to try!). Häagen-Dazs Flavors The only sign we saw indicating the new flavor was on the window! But, I mean, that’s all the encouragement we need!! Häagen-Dazs 60th Birthday Cake Flavor So, we immediately ordered the Birthday Cake Dazzler Sundae! This beauty is vanilla cake batter ice cream mixed with yellow cake pieces, chocolate brownie batter frosting swirl, and topped with whipped cream and rainbow birthday sprinkles. If that wasn’t yummy enough for ya, the entire sundae is layered on top of a bed of whole buncha vanilla sandwich cookies. Birthday Cake Dazzler Sundae All of those flavors add up to one sweet birthday treat! The combo of cake batter and real cake was killer, and the cookies at the bottom added a nice mixture of textures! We only wish there were slightly fewer cookies. As much as we love a good cookie, we could have used more of that birthday cake ice cream instead! Be sure to grab one of these beauties before they’re gone! It costs $9.99 and can be found at the Häagen-Dazs kiosk on the West Side of Disney Springs. In the mood for even MORE ice cream? Check out what we’ve discovered at Beaches and Cream by clicking here! What is your all-time favorite ice cream flavor? Let us know in the comments! 6. It is a known FACT that donuts are the meaning of life, the source of all things beautiful, and the perfect way to start your day. So ever since we heard that Everglazed Donuts & Cold Brew would be coming to Disney Springs, it has been our mission to keep a watchful eye on the construction to bring you the latest updates! ©Everglazed On our trip to Disney Springs today, we swung by the future location of Everglazed to see if there was any progress…and we are THRILLED to report that we’re noticing some work being done! With other projects being temporarily sidelined like Beatrix and the cancellation of the Ample Hills project in Disney Springs, it’s even MORE exciting now to see progress being made on a new addition to the shopping and dining district! Everglazed construction progress! We spotted construction walls set up at the former location of Pop Gallery, across from Splitsville. The walls feature the Everglazed logo. Everglazed Donuts & Cold Brew We don’t know about you guys, but we can hardly wait to make our way over to Everglazed, like, the MOMENT it opens up. 7. Who doesn’t love exploring Pandora — The World of AVATAR — in Disney’s Animal Kingdom? As they say on the mountain, Sivako! This is one challenge we can certainly rise to. Floating Mountains We’ve spied quite a few cool new things while exploring Pandora lately. We loved these adorable plushes and these cool t-shirts and sweatshirts. And after all that shopping builds up our appetites…it’s time for those amazing cheeseburger pods, which thankfully just showed back up on the adult menu over at Satu’li Canteen! (Click here to MAKE THEM AT HOME if you’re not headed to Disney World soon!) But during our latest excursion through Windtraders, the gift shop you get dumped into after riding Flight of Passage, we found a bunch of cool new Pandora merchandise! We loved this tee spelling out “Pandora” using iconic imagery from the land! It’s available now for $29.99. Pandora T-Shirt This women’s tee is currently for sale at $36.99. And that blue piping around the arms and neckline? Beautiful! Women’s Pandora T-Shirt This color scheme will truly get you in the Avatar mood! Pandora Hoodie We love a good hoodie sweatshirt! Look so comfy! This one can be yours for $50.00. Pandora Hoodie – Back View Who doesn’t need another handy bag to help carry their belongings through the park? 8. If you know us, you know we love a LOT of SAUCE. Mr. Kamal’s Fries with Dipping Sauces That’s a big reason that we’re fans of Mr. Kamal’s in Animal Kingdom! This spot serves Mr. Kamal’s Seasoned Fries which are delicious on their own, but made all the better by the different sauce options you can snag! Today, we swung by Mr. Kamal’s and noticed that only a few options were available — and not the ones you’ll see on the online menu. Mr. Kamal’s Seasoned Fries Right now, the fries at Mr. Kamal’s are available with only two options — Curried Honey Mustard or Korean Chili Ketchup. Mr. Kamal’s Menu Of course, we snagged both, and they were delicious as always! But, we do miss the variety of sauce options that we’ve come to know and love at this spot. Mr. Kamal’s Sauces As a note, the online menu DOES show three dipping sauces — Saffron Aioli, Honey Kimchi Ketchup, and Tandoori Honey Mustard — but none of these are the sauces that are actually available at the Mr. Kamal’s location. Mr. Kamal’s Menu So heads up if you’re headed to Mr. Kamal’s! The options when you get there might not be what you’re expecting, but the flavors are still delicious. So, get snacking! 9. Pre-shows on Disney rides contain great Easter Eggs, especially when it comes to celebrity cameos. Some famous ones over the years have included Aerosmith on Rock N Roller Coaster, Patrick Warburton on Soarin’, Gary Sinise on Mission: SPACE, and Alison Janey (well, her voice at least!) on Star Tours. And, of course, we can see a number of cast members from the newest Star Wars trilogy on Rise of the Resistance. Rey, played by actress Daisy Ridley, in the pre-show of Rise of the Resistance But there are some other beloved attraction actors that you may have forgotten about! Let’s peel the curtain back JUST a bit and share who these memorable Disney World icons are! David Danipour – Flight of Passage Oh this first one is one of our favorites. Why? He teaches us how to…uhh…FLY! David Danipour plays Dr. Stevens, the helpful guide that leads us through the entire pre-show experience at Flight of Passage in Animal Kingdom! His bumbling demeanor is hard to forget (especially since the combined pre-show experiences are rather long!). David Danipour. Source: IMDB It’s quite the thrill to take flight on a Banshee on Flight of Passage, and the pre-show experience really adds to the overall immersive aspect of the whole attraction! (Except when you’re, like, infested with space bugs.) So David Danipour plays quite the pivotal role for us! Flight of Passage Pre-Show Danipour has been in a number of smaller comedic roles over the years. His more big-name appearances have been on The Good Place and Westworld. Recently, he hosted an “Ask Me Anything” interview on Reddit where he shared some of his experience getting to work on Flight of Passage (and even some behind the scenes info on his infamous line, “And, uh…fly”). Flight of Passage Queue Interestingly on the same pre-show, the female Doctor you meet is NOT Sigourney Weaver or her character from the Avatar film, Dr. Grace Augustine. Nope, that’s an actress named Alison Blanchard who kinda sorta looks like Weaver, but plays a totally different character named Dr. Jackie Ogden, lead Xenobiologist for the Avatar project. You can hear this actress elsewhere in Disney World — she’s the voice of the luggage scanner in the Star Tours queue! HA! Now you know! Learn more about Pandora – The World Of Avatar here! Wallace Langham – Dinosaur “Heeeeeeello there!” Our next pre-show actor is none other than Wallace Langham, well known by Disney fans as Dr. Grant Seeker in the pre-show video for Dinosaur! Wallace Langham. Source: IMDB First off…we need to take a moment and appreciate the genius behind the name “Grant Seeker.” Get it? Get it? Langham acts opposite Phylicia Rashad (AKA the mom from The Cosby Show) in the pre-show that sets guests up for a wild ride millions of years in the past! Dinosaur This wacky scientist might help you “go get that dino” on the ride, but outside of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, he’s just a regular actor! Wallace Langham is probably most well known as David Hodges on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation as well as smaller roles on LOADS of tv shows ranging from The Larry Sanders Show to Murphy Brown to Grey’s Anatomy. He even had a role in the 80s movie Weird Science! Think you know everything there is to know about Animal Kingdom? Click here to find out! Mark Silverman (voice) – Tower of Terror You may not recognize this next actor by his face, but his voice will sure sound familiar! Mark Silverman provided the voice for Rod Serling in the pre-show of Tower of Terror. Mark Silverman © Disney Rod Serling’s image was used in the pre-show video thanks to some spiffy video editing, specifically using footage from the Twilight Zone episode “It’s a Good Life.” Rod Serling’s widow actually chose Mark Silverman herself for the pre-show since he sounded most like her husband. So yes, Silverman 100% got approval from Serling’s family! Tower of Terror Mark Silverman’s voice work with Disney extends beyond the Tower of Terror pre-show. Believe it or not, when The Twilight Zone was reimagined as a new, darker series in 2019, he returned to voice Rod Serling AGAIN! He’s even voiced Serling on the show Medium! He was also the voice of Friend Owl in several Bambi projects, as well as a few different voices in A Pirate’s Adventure: Treasures of the Seven Seas in Magic Kingdom. He even voiced a character in The Real Ghostbusters Saturday morning cartoon back in the 80s! Tower of Terror is one SPOOKY ride! See what else is surprisingly scary in Disney World here! Illeana Douglas – Rock n Roller Coaster Many folks know that the pre-show for Rock n Roller Coaster stars the actual rock band Aerosmith, but the band’s manager was played by actress Illeana Douglas! Illeana Douglas. Source: IMDB You know, the manager that hooks us up with those backstage passes and that SUPER stretch limo? THAT manager! Rock n Roller Coaster You can catch Illeana Douglas in a ton of television shows. In the past she has been featured in episodes of Modern Family, Ugly Betty, Law and Order, Seinfeld, Six Feet Under, and Goliath! Test your knowledge of Disney’s Hollywood Studios here! Gina Torres – Mission: SPACE Gina Torres replaced Gary Sinise in the 2017 update of Mission: SPACE as the pre-show host who prepares guests for their space flight training! Gina Torres. Source: IMDB And when she says the words “Go for launch,” you’ll definitely want to hang on! Mission: SPACE Gina Torres was in the Matrix sequels as well as a bunch of television programs, including lending her voice to Star Wars Rebels, Elena of Avalor, and Tangled: The Series. She also was in Westworld, Riverdale, and Hannibal. Many fans of the epic, short-lived, fan-favorite sci-fi show Firefly will recognize her as the ship’s second in command, Zoe! Remember Space 220? Let’s take a look at one of the most highly anticipated new restaurants at Disney World here! Next time you’re binge-watching your favorite TV show, see if you recognize any familiar faces! Disney has employed countless actors over the years in their parks to help bring the stories of their rides and attractions to life! Some of our most memorable moments are from these pre-shows, whether we’re quoting the opening of The Twilight Zone or we’re super STOKED to get those backstage passes to the Aerosmith concert! It’s all part of the attraction experience, which makes going to Disney World all the more special. Which attraction pre-show is your favorite? Let us know in the comments! 12. 65 years ago—just 14 days after Disneyland opened in 1955—Casey Jr. Circus Train rolled into Fantasyland, delighting children and adult guests ever since. Casey Jr., the brave little engine known for his role in the 1941 animated film “Dumbo,” features individually designed and vibrantly painted train cars. Each animal cage and ornate sleigh is special, as guests clamored to ride in their favorite vehicle. Train riders in the early days had relatively little to gaze upon, as the colorful train did not traverse through much scenery. However, that changed in 1956, when the Storybook Land Canal Boats opened. The miniature scenes of fairy tale villages and vistas provided the perfect backdrop to passengers aboard Casey Jr. Circus Train as well. Since then, this whimsical attraction has remained largely unchanged. A charming addition in 1983 welcomed a lively new voice of the circus ringmaster, which became part of the narration. And, as always, when the train heads back to the station, alert travelers can hear Casey Jr. himself, giving that most famous of pep-talks, “I think I can, I think I can.” For additional photos and to learn more about this festive circus train, check out our “Building the Dream” blog story. 18. Back in early spring, analysts were predicting Florida’s hurricane season could be extra-active this year. Experts predicted an above-average number of storms would impact the Atlantic from June 1st through November 30th. ©WESH So far, the 2020 hurricane season is well ahead of what experts consider to be a “normal pace.” Nine named tropical storms have already developed as of July 29th — and now that Tropical Storm Isaias has been strengthened to Hurricane Isaias, we’ve just learned Accuweather has updated its forecast for the 2020 hurricane season. Originally, Accuweather’s forecast called for 14-18 tropical storms during the 2020 hurricane season. They predicted seven to nine of these storm systems would likely develop into hurricanes with two to four storms possibly strengthening into major hurricanes. EPCOT With such an active start to the hurricane season, however, Accuweather has amended its forecast. They’ve now raised their projected number of named tropical storms to 20-24. They’ve also increased the projected number of hurricanes to 9-11 and the number of major hurricanes to 4-6. 22. MORE resort hotels reopened in Disney World and we went a took a look! Caribbean Beach Resort We took a spin around the two most recently reopened hotels in Disney World and (as expected) there were a good number of changes. So here’s everything that NEW at The Swan Hotel and Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort in food and construction! Take a look! Food Updates First up, let’s talk about the food! Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort A few spots reopened at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. We swung by Centertown Market to check out changes to the Mobile Order process, but pretty much everything was the same! We did note that a Cast Member got our coffee for us at the beverage station but otherwise the only changes were added distancing measures. Centertown Market The pool bar was open at Banana Cabana. The seating was marked for lounge guests only with tables spaced out. Banana Cabana A few spots are still closed including Sebastian’s Bistro, the Grab n’ Go counter, and the Joffrey’s location at the Skyliner Station. Sebastian’s Bistro As a note, there were distancing markers outside of Sebastian’s Bistro for when the location is able to open. The Swan Hotel Over at the Swan Hotel, all three of the main restaurants — Garden Grove, Il Mulino, and Kimonos — are open! Guests are able to make reservations through the Swan App which is posted with a QR Code outside the dining locations. Il Mulino For the counter-service options, the Java Coffee Shop is open but the Chill Frozen Drinks counter was closed when we were there. Chill Sign We’ll keep an eye out for the reopening of Chill! Click here to see more of the reopening of Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort! Construction Updates Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort We noticed that the Trinidad area of Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort was closed off, including the pool, the hot tub, and Spyglass Grill. Empty Caribbean Beach Many of the recreation options were available including the volleyball courts, hammocks, the lawn chairs, and the Caribbean Cay island. As a note, the Caribbean Cay playground was closed. Caribbean Cay Walkways were open so you are able to walk to Disney’s Riviera Resort. Health and Safety Signage Of course, health and safety signage is also posted EVERYWHERE around the resort. The Swan Hotel The biggest news at The Swan Hotel is that the Friendship Boats were NOT running even though they were supposed to open. Disney Swan and Dolphin Hotels Due to the MLS is Back Tournament, only the Swan side is open as the Dolphin hosts Major League Baseball players. The Dolphin side is completely blocked off with barriers on every side, including half of the pool. The hot tub was also closed but you can still play giant chess and giant Jenga. The Dolphin Just like at all of the other resort hotels, there were health and safety notices everywhere. Health and Safety Signage The reopenings at these two resorts definitely seem pretty similar to the other reopenings we’ve seen so far. We’ll check in with more updates soon! See ya then! 24. We’ve been keeping an eye on news about the storm headed for Florida this weekend. Walt Disney World Entrance What was Tropical Storm Isaias has now been strengthened to Hurricane Isaias, with the Eastern coast of Florida remaining in its path. The state is likely to feel the effects of the storm this weekend, potentially even in Disney World. According to WESH, Hurricane Isaias is currently a Category 1 hurricane. Current models show the storm potentially strengthening to a Category 2 before dropping back as it makes its way up the Eastern coast of the United States. ©WESH Though most models currently expect that the center of the storm will stay off the coast, the rain and winds may have an effect on the coast of Florida and more inland, as far as Disney World. ©WESH If you’re headed to the parks this weekend, be prepared for potentially inclement weather. We’ll keep you updated with all of the important news about Hurricane Isaias and its effect on Disney World. Stay tuned. Click here to learn more about 2020’s expected overactive hurricane season. 25. The most wonderful time of the year will be here more quickly than you might think, and we’re starting to wonder about some of the festivities that could take place in Disney World. Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration The global health crisis has had a significant effect on the way things operate in the Disney parks, and things haven’t stopped adjusting yet. We recently shared that Disney has canceled Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party completely for 2020. Well, Christmastime is not too long after that event, so will Disney World cancel Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party? It’s a question we’re getting a LOT from our readers and followers on social media, so let’s take a look at what we know. Disney is “closely monitoring” the viability of the 2020 Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. With the announcement of the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party cancellation, Disney explained that a decision has not been made about this year’s Christmas Parties. Cast Members directing guests at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Of the party and other events, Disney stated, “We are monitoring our new environment closely, and will make a decision on these events as we continue to learn more from government and health officials. As always, our goal is to explore every option and look at ways in which we can still host events and festivals full of Disney magic, while still operating responsibly with the health and safety of our guests and Cast Members in mind.” Jack and Sally Meet and Greet at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party From this statement, we can glean that Disney will make the choice that makes guest and Cast Member safety a top priority. Maybe we’ll see a modified party, or maybe we won’t see one at all; it comes down to the health situation and doing what they deem safe for all involved. Click here to learn more about the cancellation of Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party! An event like Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is currently considered high-risk. As it stands, being in a theme park at all is considered a higher-risk activity. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) currently considers “medium-sized in-person gatherings that are adapted to allow individuals to remain spaced at least 6 feet apart and with attendees coming from outside the local area” to be high risk. This describes pretty much every day in the Disney parks, including special events like the Halloween and Christmas Parties. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Entrance Plus, per the CDC, the higher the level of community transmission in the area of an event, the greater the risk. At the time of writing, Florida’s community transmission rate is 78% of positive and traced cases according to the Florida Health Department. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party On the other hand, a night at one of the Christmas Parties, with all health measures considered, wouldn’t be THAT different from a current day in the theme parks. So, it IS possible that the event could move forward with appropriate health measures if things start to improve by the time Disney would need to sell tickets for the event. Click here for our take on how safe Disney World is — and whether you should go. The health situation would likely need to improve. Soon. If Disney makes the decision based on the environment around them, then we know from Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party that things will need to get better soon! Normally Disney would have already been selling tickets for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, and the first event would happen in just three short months. Unfortunately, current projections currently do not show great improvement in the circumstances in the United States or in Florida in the coming months. The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation has crisis models that predict deaths continuing to increase in the country and the state through November. IHME Projections for United States COVID-19 Deaths as of July 30, 2020 If these projections end up being accurate, we can assume that the risk levels for large events will not change. Again though, the parks ARE open even in the current environment. If a similar level of diligence is put in place for the parties, they could be considered sufficiently safe. But that leads us to the next — possibly bigger — concern. Click here to learn more about the health measures in the parks currently. The viability of fireworks, shows, and parades are a big factor. Disney’s statement about Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party said that one of the big deciding factors was that there was no way to do the staples of the party safely. Disney said, “We determined that many of its hallmarks – stage shows, parades and fireworks – are unable to take place in this new, unprecedented environment. With that in mind, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.” Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks Now, this is interesting when we consider that the fate of the party might rest on the ability to conduct the party’s hallmark events. Right now, Disney World is not conducting most shows, fireworks, parades, or character meet and greets. The highlights of these special events are exactly the things Disney has put on hold. Many guests attend these parties specifically for the chance to see the special event parades and fireworks, and the chance to meet lots of unique Disney characters. What would a Very Merry Christmas Party be without a hug from Jack Skellington or the Seven Dwarfs and watching Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks? Still, we have recently seen the return of trial periods for firework shows in Shanghai Disneyland. If Disney World continues to follow a similar timeline to Shanghai Disneyland in response to the virus, we could see fireworks trials in the next few months. Minnie’s Wonderful Christmas Time Fireworks Plus, some of the smaller, low-demand shows have returned in Disney World already but without equity actors and with plenty of social distancing in place. The entertainment at the Christmas Parties is NOT low-demand, so they would have to be managed with limited capacity to be viable. Would guests want to risk spending upwards of $100 for a ticket that doesn’t ensure they’re able to see all of the entertainment? Also, if the shows use equity actors, the current union disagreements would need to be resolved for those performers to return. Gingerbread Sundae at Storybook Treats Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is months away from now. So, if Disney can manage to modify and bring back the hallmarks of the event in time, as well as if cases in the country and state start to improve, we may be partying away this winter. But if Disney can’t shoot off holiday fireworks and hold holiday parades, or if numbers continue to rise, we might get the Mickey’s Not So Scary treatment again for Christmas. Click here to learn more about the trial fireworks in Shanghai Disneyland. A LOT would need to happen for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party to open with current health and safety expectations. Let’s say that Disney does decide to move ahead with the parties — a LOT would need to happen to be able to get them functioning in this new environment. For one, modifications would need to be made to the parades, shows, fireworks, and meet and greets to allow for guest social distancing and safety for the Cast Members. Belle Speaking of social distancing, capacities would need to be lowered for the parties in general. It has not been uncommon to be stuck on a VERY crowded Main Street U.S.A. during Christmas Parties of years past. If typical parties are a lower capacity than allowed in the park during the day, capacities would need to be cut even more to match the already lower capacity we’ve seen in the parks. If you think the parks look empty now, imagine what they COULD be like for the Christmas Parties! Christmas Party Crowds Then we have to consider, would a party even be worth it with the necessary modifications? Tickets to these events are not cheap (typically above $100), so if we consider that shows and entertainment might be modified, menus may be limited, and health and safety measures may need to be a priority, would that ticket price even feel fair? Or would demand be extremely low? Click here to learn more about navigating the Disney parks with limited capacity.
