  2. Disney World desserts are a thing of beauty. There are not a lot of things we can think of that warm our hearts the way that a tasty sweet treat at the parks does. And with all of the desserts we’ve tried over the years, there are a few snacks we keep coming back to time and time again. One of our favorites? Pies. Specifically: TINY PIES. Yak and Yeti Local Foods Cafe Desserts These bite-sized circles of pure joy can be found throughout the theme parks if you really go looking for them, but we’re always wishing Disney could add MORE to their menus! So enjoy this ode to the beloved tiny pie, and why we hope Disney considers bringing more of them to the parks and resorts. Buckle in guys, we’re going on a TINY PIE adventure! Some of our Disney World Faves We’ve recently tried a few of these bb pies at the parks and resorts, including the tiny Blueberry Pie at the grand opening of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. Mickey and Minnie’s Blueberry Pie Can everyone stop and appreciate how CUTE this is? IT’S A BABY PIE! With lattice and everything! While our hearts are over here melting just looking at this treat, we know it also TASTED phenomenal. Fresh blueberry filling was unique compared to many Disney snacks. It was sweet, but not TOO sweet. It was also stinkin’ adorable. We can’t think of many things as appropriate to any celebration as a tiny picture-perfect pie would be, and this one was a winner in our books! Read our review of the Blueberry Pie from the opening of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway here! Geyser Point Bar & Grill at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort is an excellent go-to if you’re on the hunt for tiny pies. Their Seasonal Pies have rotated flavors since the earliest years, so you can never be quite sure of what version will be available next time you visit! Seasonal Pie On our most recent visit, it was a yummy apple pie! And we’ve also loved the blueberry peach seasonal pie. SWOON. Wilderness Lodge Seasonal Pie Next, we’ve always been obsessed with the mini pies you can score at Yak & Yeti Local Foods Cafe for a LONG while now. They come in chocolate silk and mango (our favorite). Yak and Yeti Local Foods Cafe Dessert Tiny Pies We love these so much that when a reader tipped us off to finding something verrrrry similar at her Publix grocery store, we hunted some noticeably similar ones down at our local Kroger! Kenny’s Mini Mango Pie After some investigating, we discovered that Kenny’s is indeed where Yak and Yeti gets their tiny pies! So these days, when some of us are postponing our Disney World vacations, it’s nice to know that we can still find small “slices” of happiness at our local stores! See even MORE iconic Disney Parks snacks we learned during the closures you can find at your local store here! We love tiny pies at Disneyland, too! We also wouldn’t mind seeing more tiny pies arrive on the West Coast, too! (FACT: tiny pie love is bi-coastal.) Disney California Adventure’s Food and Wine Festival brought us some memorable favorites, like this Fresh California Berry Pie. Peep that hidden Mickey! Fresh California Berry Pie For fans of savory pies, the 2019 Festival of the Holidays at California Adventure featured a Plant-Based Shepherd’s Upside Down Pie! Shepherd’s Upside Down Pie – Plant-based Come ON…a Mickey-shaped puff pastry? It’s like shepherd’s pie but leveled UP! These festivals have been marvelous opportunities to sink into a delicious pie, but we won’t lie, we’d like to see some of these pies stay in the parks for more than just a few weeks! Take a look back at last year’s California Adventure Festival of the Holidays here! Reasons Disney should give us more tiny pies: Now that we’ve shared just a few of our favorites over the years, let’s recap the reason WHY Disney needs to seriously consider adding more tiny pies to their menus ASAP: 1. They’re tiny. The best things about tiny pies are exactly that…they’re tiny! A bite-sized snack is just as delicious as its full-size counterpart, with perhaps just a little less guilt. American Apple Pie A perfect example is the American Apple Pie that we recently spotted at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn. It can literally fit in the palm of our hand, but it’s packed with all the flavor of a regular pie (festive sprinkles help too!). Tiny pie just tastes better. It’s science. Click here to see BoardWalk Bakery’s love song to America in the form of TINY PIE! 2. There are endless flavor possibilities. It’s almost as if you can think of a flavor of pie for every letter of the alphabet. There’s apple, pumpkin, chocolate, mango, key lime, pecan, lemon meringue, blueberry…we think you get the idea! Fourth of July Peanut Butter Pie And who can forget this year’s Peanut Butter 4th of July Pie from Contempo Cafe? Yes, this is our long-standing FAV-OR-ITE tiny pie in all of Disney World (ever, forever) with a little makeover to celebrate America’s b-day! This epic PB tiny pie is in the bakery case at Contempo every day of the year, though, so don’t miss it! Click here to see why we adore the PB Pie at Contempo Cafe 3. You can also add savory pies to the mix! Tiny pies don’t always have to be “just desserts.” Savory pies are also right up our alley, with just as many flavor possibilities: Chicken Pot Pie, Shepherd’s Pie, Fisherman’s Pie… Seafood Fisherman’s Pie …speaking of Fisherman’s Pie, this year’s EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival is once again serving up the famed Irish favorite Seafood Fisherman’s Pie. Check out our Best of the Fest from the 2020 “Taste of Food and Wine” Festival here! In summation: pie=GOOD. TINY pie=BETTER! Nothing makes our hearts sing quite like a tiny pie. Whenever we spot a new one, we gotta try it! So, let’s get some more of these cuties on your menus, Disney! Let’s just say, it’s as easy as pie! Have you had any of the small pies in Disney World? Which one has been your favorite? Let us know in the comments! 4. We’ve been scoping out Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World for some new savory treats! Yak and Yeti Local Foods Cafe The quick-service counterpart to the Yak & Yeti Restaurant is open and cooking up something new! We ventured into Asia to try the new-to-us Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich from Yak and Yeti Local Foods Cafe and we’re back with results! The crispy fried chicken breast came topped with Honey Heat Sauce, tomato, and Kimchi Slaw. The sandwich is served with fries and costs $13.99. New Yak & Yeti Local Foods Cafe Menu We’re always a tad bit skeptical when Disney notes that a menu item has “heat.” It’s never quite as spicy as we want it to be. In comparison to other spicy Disney food, the Honey Heat Sauce had a bit of a kick. We still really wish it had more heat. The lack of spiciness didn’t detract from the tastiness, however! Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich The heat (or lack thereof) was balanced nicely with the sweetness of the honey in the sauce. At first glance, we thought there wasn’t enough sauce for the sandwich, but the spread was on both sides of the chicken. There was a good amount of sauce to really compliment the sandwich. Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich The Kimchi Cole Slaw was fresh and added a touch more spice and depth to the sandwich. It added a good crunch for texture too! Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich The tomato was a pleasant surprise! It was a thick-cut and tasted fresh. It wasn’t the soggy tomato slices we sometimes see around the theme park! Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich By the way, Disney has changed the way we experience quick-service dining at the theme parks. They have implemented new health protocols by encouraging mobile ordering and blocking off tables to create distance between travel groups. Yak & Yeti also handed us condiment packets to guests from a tray. As opposed to having us serve ourselves from a condiment counter. Condiments from Yak and Yeti Yak & Yeti is one of the limited quick-service restaurants currently open in Animal Kingdom, but that doesn’t mean it’s a winner by default! It’s a crowd favorite quick-service restaurant due to the unique flavors and portion sizes. Despite the lack of heat, the chicken sandwich didn’t disappoint us at all. It tasted great and had a good portion size. We were fully satisfied by the time we finished this sammie off! We also think this sandwich would pair nicely with a side of Seasoned Fries from Mr. Kamal’s, which is also currently open! We’ll continue to make our way back to Yak & Yeti to check out any new updates in the future! Did you hear the news? Cheeseburger Pods are back on the menu at Satu’li Canteen! 5. If you’re heading to Target anytime soon, you may find some familiar faces gracing the packaging of an in-demand item… Disney Hand Sanitizers at Target We found this colorful collection of travel-sized bottles of hand sanitizer themed with Disney characters during our latest Target run, and couldn’t resist sharing them with you! Mickey and Minnie can be found on several bottles. Take your pick! Mickey and Minnie Hand Sanitizers Mickey sports different facial expressions, while Minnie is all smiles in her polka dot packaging. Mickey and Minnie Hand Sanitizers Some of our favorite Frozen friends have found their way into the selection: Olaf, Anna, and Elsa. Frozen Hand Sanitizers And you didn’t think they’d leave this little fella out of the mix, did you? Baby Yoda Hand Sanitizers Of course not! BABY YODA gets his own hand sanitizer collection with packaging that features The Mandalorian logo, too. That’s right… you really can take Baby Yoda along with you wherever you go! Though YMMV, pretty much any Target I’ve visited recently has limited hand sanitizers to 3 per guest (not just the Disney-themed ones). But we happily noticed that the shelves were stocked with the character crew, so you may have similar luck at your Target if you’re interested in grabbing some on your next Target run! And if you’re stocking up on other items, you can check out some of our Disney Food Blog Face Masks here! Will you be picking up some Disney character-themed hand sanitizers? 6. We’re saying goodbye to a Disney ice cream spot today! Ample Hills Last week, we heard that Ample Hills Creamery will not be reopening in Disney World’s BoardWalk or opening at all at Disney Springs following the company’s bankruptcy and acquiring new owners. Yesterday, we were taking a stroll down the BoardWalk when we noticed that the Ample Hills Creamery sign is GONE! There’s no trace of the Ample Hills sign that used to sit above the door. In its place sits a blank slate. But you can still see some of the ice cream signage scrawled on the walls. We recently shared that the coming soon Ample Hill signs were missing from the Disney Springs construction site as well. Ample Hills We’re bummed that we’ve had our last taste of Ample Hills ice cream in Disney World, but we’re pretty darn excited to see what will come next for this space! And don’t worry, if you were looking to get your hands on the Mickey Ears souvenir bowl, it can now be found at BoardWalk Bakery! And get this…it comes with chocolate Mickey waffles now! Ample Hills Stay tuned to DFB for all of the latest updates about the BoardWalk’s newest vacancy; we’ll be sure to keep you in the loop! Click here to learn more about the closure of Ample Hills! 7. Walt Disney World has officially re-opened and is getting back to business! Monorail The current changes have affected the ways guests may experience rides, dining, and park entry. The new guidelines have also made a BIG impact on Disney transportation. Things have definitely changed a bit when it comes to getting around, so we’re bringing you ALL of our best TIPS for using Disney transportation in a reopened Disney World! We’ve been spending a good bit of our time investigating all of the updates in the theme parks and resorts — and that means we’ve been cruising around in LOTS of Disney World transportation for a few weeks. Check out our experience with transportation during the first weeks of opening! Now we’re gonna share a bunch of recommendations, but let’s start strong: Biggest Disney Transpo Tip So Far After testing out transportation, our biggest tip is arriving at the theme parks LATER in the morning (crazy, right?). This is especially relevant if you’re nervous about being in crowds. Cinderella Castle Most attraction wait times are much shorter than normal and many entertainment offerings have been cut. This means there’s less of a reason to rush to the parks and arrive before the park opens to beat the crowds! Now, if you want to be in the mix to get that first Rise of the Resistance boarding group drop, we totally understand (and we actually DO recommend arriving early to Hollywood Studios for your first of two attempts to secure that elusive boarding group spot!). But if you’re headed to one of the other three parks, take your time! You’ll still be able to ride everything you want, and you’ll avoid the opening hour transportation crush. Now, let’s take a look at the various forms of Disney World transportation and how they look following the reopening! Disney Buses We’ve seen all sorts of changes to the Disney buses recently. The bus queues are spaced with distancing markers and guests are required to sit in designated seats in marked zones. The numbered zones indicate the space where individual parties can sit. Some seats are marked as unavailable to create space between groups and plastic barriers are placed between zones as well. Your bus driver will tell you a numbered zone to head to as well as which entrance of the bus to use to limit exposure to other guests. Disney Buses with Zone Seating and Partitions Normally, a Disney bus has a capacity of about 130 people (and that’s a crammed to the gills, standing room only bus!). Buses are now seriously restricted due to the physical distancing requirements. The new limited capacity can increase wait times a bit because, obviously, the buses can’t be loaded as full as they were prior. That said, hotel crowds are also considerably lower due to the new capacity limits too. While bus wait times are extended, it’s not as bad as it would be with full hotel capacity. Bus Station Park hopping is currently unavailable so buses are mostly used by hotel guests going to and from the resorts. (All guests can use the bus system to and from resorts to the parks as well as Disney Springs if they choose.) Buses tend to start running about 45 minutes prior to opening and lines are usually much longer first thing in the morning. In our experience, there were fewer lines and much shorter wait times after the initial morning rush even just an hour after park opening (depending on where you’re trying go!). Zone Seating Those of you who wish to arrive RIGHT at the parks’ opening should allow for increased travel time. You can also opt to drive or take a rideshare to avoid crowded bus lines. We’ll get back to all your rideshare options later! Bus Station Disney’s Magical Express, the complimentary airport transfer bus, is also operating under slightly different terms. Under typical conditions, guests can have their checked baggage picked up from baggage claim delivered to their hotel room without them having to lift a finger. Now, guests must pick up their own luggage from baggage claim and bring it to the bus where it will be loaded by the driver. Once you arrive, you can choose to have your luggage stored or delivered to your room. Click here to learn more about the changes to Disney buses! Monorail The monorail has had its fair share of updates too! Cars are now split in half using a piece of vinyl meant to create a barrier between the two sides. Those of you who are uncomfortable in crowds should be aware that the fabric barrier is pretty flimsy and there are large gaps around the barrier and seats. It’s a “protective barrier” but in the loosest sense of the term! Monorail with Distancing Guests are sat one travel group per bench. You won’t be seated with strangers on your same bench, but you will most likely be seated opposite of another group. There also might be a group seated on the bench behind you, in the other portion of the car. With those 1-2 inch gaps between the seat and the barrier, you’d be well within six feet of that group should one of them cough or sneeze. Check out the ferry if this makes you uncomfortable. Given the crowd levels and time of day, you might have a better chance of distancing yourself on the boat rather than the monorail. Monorail with Barrier The resort monorail line, and the Express Monorail line between the Transportation and Ticket Center and the Magic Kingdom, are currently running. The monorail between EPCOT and the Transportation and Ticket Center is not running. If you’re hoping to get to EPCOT from the Transportation and Ticket Center via monorail, you’ll need to make alternate plans. Monorail Lines From our experience, the limited capacity seems to mostly affect wait times in the morning. This is especially true for resorts located on the monorail line: Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. On Magic Kingdom’s opening day, we lined up at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort’s monorail entrance when the monorail started running at 8:30AM. Hi There, Monorail We then watched FOUR monorails filled to capacity pass us before one stopped at the hotel (remember, those monorails stop at the Contemporary Resort AND the Transportation and Ticket Center before making their way to the Polynesian!). And yet, there was hardly any wait later in the day! Once again, it seems counter-intuitive to say AVOID the parks first thing in the morning, but that seems to be best for now. Give it even an hour or so and you should find it easier to hop on a monorail. Want more information about the reopened monorail? Click here! Disney Skyliner The Disney Skyliner has three lines that transport guests from Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, and Disney’s Riviera Resort to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the International Gateway at EPCOT. Skyliner Map Caribbean Beach Resort acts as a transfer station for all three lines. Guests can use this station to take a line to/from EPCOT and the Riviera Resort or to Hollywood Studios. Guests traveling from the Art of Animation/Pop Century can ride to the Caribbean Beach station and transfer to the Riviera/EPCOT line or Hollywood Studios. Skyliner with Distance Markers The Skyliner has seen a few minor adjustments since re-opening. Only one travel group (up to 10 people) is allowed per cabin and all gondolas are cleaned at least once per day. A Gondola Cabin All to Ourselves Each of the three lines is running at different times due to the differing park opening times for Hollywood Studios and EPCOT. Be sure to check the posted sign outside of each station or ask at your resort for the operating hours when you visit. For instance, the line from Pop Century/Art of Animation began running at 9:00AM when we last visited. Current Gondola Schedule If you plan on using the Skyliner to get to an early breakfast reservation (the character breakfast at the Riviera’s Topolino’s Terrace, perhaps?), you will most likely want to drive or order a rideshare vehicle if you have an early dining reservation before the Skyliner starts running. You want to give yourself at least 45 minutes of travel time to board the gondola, travel to the resort, and make your way to the restaurant to check-in for your reservation. Mickey at Topolinos Terrace Overall, our experience on board the Skyliner wasn’t affected too much by the modified hours or operational changes. We took the Skyliner a few times in the last week and we walked on with no wait every time. The only wait we encountered was when the gondolas went down for about 15 minutes. This setback was unplanned and not due to the limited capacity or cleaning schedule. Click here to see what it was like for us to ride the Skyliner again! Ferry and Friendship Boats The ferry is running frequently between the Transportation and Ticket Center and Magic Kingdom. Social distancing is encouraged by restricting the use of benches, and using distancing markers placed throughout standing areas. The boat felt very crowded early in the morning. There aren’t physical barriers like on the monorails and buses either, so if that’s a concern, be aware. Boats begin running 45 minutes to one hour before park opening, in our experience. Ferryboat with Social Distancing Friendship Boats from EPCOT area resorts are scheduled to start transporting guests on July 29th. The Sassagoula River Cruise that connects the Disney’s Port Orleans Resorts to Disney Springs also remains closed with no known opening date. The social distancing procedures for both boats will most likely be similar to measures we’ve seen on other forms of transportation once they resume. Learn more about the Transportation and Ticket Center Ferry Boats here! Magic Kingdom Resort Water Taxis The water taxis travel between the Magic Kingdom and the resorts in the area including Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort. These boats usually run every 30 minutes from each destination. Magic Kingdom Boat Queue ONLY the water taxis servicing the Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness are running in a limited capacity with access to the Magic Kingdom currently. (Guests staying at the other resorts have the option to take the monorail or bus.) Note that the water taxis are much smaller than the ferry boat. With limited capacity, you might experience longer lines for the boat. You still have the option to take a bus from either Wilderness Lodge or Fort Wilderness if the lines get too long. Parking and Parking Trams Guests are directed to park every other row in the parking lots at all theme parks. This allows guests to keep a distance from each other while exiting their vehicles. Once a parking lane is filled and guests have departed their vehicles, the attendants will start filling in the lanes they left empty. (You can park in any available spot at the hotels and Disney Springs since most guests aren’t arriving at the same time.) Parking Currently, the lines to get into the parking lots are fairly long first thing in the morning and can tack on extra travel time! Be prepared to wait at the toll plazas if you’re trying to head in early. As we’ve said before, if you give it an hour or so, you can usually enter with relative ease. Parking Entrance at EPCOT Trams are currently NOT transporting guests from the theme park parking lots to the front entrance of the parks. Guests should be prepared to walk from their cars to the front gates of EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, or the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) at Magic Kingdom. That said, crowds are lower than normal so your car may not be parked too far from the theme park entrances. Empty Parking Trams You also have the option of dropping some of your group at the guest drop off/pick-up locations, which are closer to the park entrances and TTC. When you arrive at the entrance, let the toll plaza attendants know you want to drop off your group first before parking. Read more about the parking tram cancellation here! Minnie Vans and Rideshares Minnie Vans are a vehicle transportation option on Disney World property operated by the rideshare company Lyft, but using actual Disney World Cast Members as the drivers. Guests can call a Minnie Van using the Lyft app and take the van to and from anywhere on Disney property for a fee. At this time, Minnie Vans are not currently operating. (Although, we did spot one zooming around the property lately!) Minnie Vans While you can’t catch a Minnie Van right now, you can still order a non-Disney-run rideshare car through Uber or Lyft. The rideshare companies each have their own regulations and many currently ask passengers to sit in the back seat, sanitize their hands, and wear a mask. Walkways Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has a walkway that connects guests to the Transportation and Ticket Center. Normally, it’s a huge perk for guests staying at the resort because it allows them to quickly connect to the TTC and use the transportation options from there. This walkway now appears to open at 8:30AM every morning giving guests 30 minutes to walk to the TTC. This may be a bit of a disappointment for early risers who like to arrive at the TTC bright and early. Alternatively, guests can take the resort bus or monorail straight to the entrance of Magic Kingdom. Remember, the EPCOT monorail line is not currently running from the Transportation and Ticket Center. The walkway between Disney’s Contemporary Resort and the Magic Kingdom is open and is also the quickest way to get to Magic Kingdom’s front entrance from just about anywhere. It’s about a 15-minute jaunt from the resort to the park entrance so there’s less of a need to rush out of your resort at an early hour. Guests are met with a security and temperature checkpoint along the pathway. Given that the pathway is designated for guests coming from the resort, the wait time for this checkpoint is usually much shorter (and less hectic) than the screenings outside of Magic Kingdom’s tapstiles. Temperature Check Signs Lastly, the walkway that will connect Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa to the Magic Kingdom is well underway! This will allow guests to take a quick walk to the Magic Kingdom entrance without having to wait for a bus or a monorail. We’ll continue to update you with the construction progress! walkway between Magic Kingdom and Grand Floridian Learn more about the new Grand Floridian walkway here! There you have it! Those are our very best info and tips for getting around in a reopened Disney World. Right now, our BEST tip is to head into the parks later than you normally would. The transportation lines are long and the crowds can feel overwhelming but, in our experience, only really at the VERY start of the day. We haven’t encountered too many long waits despite the limited capacity and physical distancing during the rest of the day (or if you’re caught in a rainstorm — then things can get a little crazy as people exit the parks). The other factor guests should be aware of are the subtle schedule changes. As noted before, if you have an early dining reservation before 10:00AM, it may be best to drive or take a rideshare to your destination. The morning crowds can increase wait times as well. We will continue to monitor transportation as situations like crowd levels and transportation capacities change. Stay tuned to DFB in the coming weeks as we keep track of all of the reopening changes and updates! READ THIS NEXT! Heading to Florida soon? 9. We recently put your Disney Vacation Club knowledge to the test with a fun trivia night. Now, it’s time for a visual challenge. Do you know where this exquisite piece calls “home?” If you know the answer instantly, welcome home, you eagle-eyed pro. If not, no worries. Here are some more clues and images. Do you recognize this scene? This mural is comprised of more than 500,000 hand-cut tiles and depicts Rapunzel’s beloved floating lanterns from “Tangled.” This stunning work of art rises 20 feet in the air from walkways on each side of the tunnel’s central fountain, joined at the ceiling above by a shared mosaic sky. Have you guessed? In its location at Disney Vacation’s Club’s newest resort, the mural is joined by a second one that shows London at night, with Peter Pan, Wendy, Michael and John flying off to Never Land. One final clue resides in what both murals have in common – the theme of “flight.” Have you figured it out? Scroll down for the answer. Answer: The walkway from Disney’s Riviera Resort to its Disney Skyliner station. At Disney’s Riviera Resort, families can catch the Disney Skyliner, an aerial gondola system, for magical flights to EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. On their way to the Disney Skyliner station, Members and guests pass through a tunnel featuring two spectacular mosaic murals inspired by flight. View the full article

  11. There’s no question that Disney World is a different place than it was before the closures! While some of the changes we’ve seen can certainly cause an inconvenience, we actually think some changes were for the better! Cinderella Castle Today, we’re sharing seven things we’ve noticed at a reopened Disney World that we actually PREFER now over the way things were before the closures. Hardly any ride and attraction lines The biggest change to Disney World following the closures was the limited guest capacity through the Park Pass Reservation System. Once inside the theme parks, this is most noticeable by how QUIET Disney World is these days. Indoor Queue for Haunted Mansion You really realize just how empty the parks are when you see the wait times for rides and attractions. Granted some rides are still quite popular, like Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway and Rise of the Resistance, but when Flight of Passage frequently posts FIVE-minute waits, you KNOW Disney World is a comparative ghost town these days. Flight of Passage Queue Gone are the days (for now) where you have to stress over getting on all the rides you want in a given day. Most of the time, riding just about whatever you please is easily achievable with the lower crowds in the parks. Disney’s Hollywood Studios seems to be the one park that feels closer to its pre-closure crowds, so you may need to plan accordingly on those park days. Disney World opted OUT of implementing park-wide virtual queues. See how else they’re breaking the theme park reopening “mold” here! Frequent character cavalcades While we’re going to miss hugging Mickey Mouse and dining with some of our favorite princesses, we are LOVING the new “mini parades” and spontaneous character experiences happening at the parks throughout the day! Mickey & Friends Motorcade The frequency of the cavalcades is nice because there’s no pressure to wait in one spot to see it. If you don’t catch it the first time, there are plenty of other opportunities to watch! Merida in Magic Kingdom The other “random” encounters we have seen with characters over the last couple of weeks have also been a nice touch and a great way for Disney to offer alternative character experiences for guests. Seeing and interacting with Anastasia and Drizella on the balconies of Cinderella Castle is super unique, and Pooh running around the fields of EPCOT with a butterfly net is probably the cutest thing we’ve seen in the parks ever. Winnie the Pooh in EPCOT It has been nice to interact with characters WITHOUT having to wait in a lengthy queue. We’d love to have some of these cavalcades and character encounters stick around even after the regular parades and character meet and greets come back! After all, in “normal” Disney World, you usually have to book a character meal or a meet and greet FastPass to see these guys! Learn more about where in Disney World you can see the characters here! A little more elbow room in restaurants While almost everywhere in Disney World seems a little quieter these days, the place where it’s perhaps the “nicest” is in the restaurants. San Angel Inn Some of those Disney restaurants like to REALLY pack people in, so the physical distancing between tables gives us all a little more elbow room! Look at ALL That Space! Disney will likely want to get all of those restaurants filled to capacity with families as safely and as quickly as possible, so we don’t think this new-found elbow room will stay around forever. In the meantime, however, it’s a nice change. Check out what our dining experience was like at a reopened Be Our Guest Restaurant here! Mobile Dine Check-In One change we did NOT see coming but are super down with is the new Mobile Dine Check-In! Essentially Mobile Dine Check-In is a contactless way of checking in for your dining reservation. Skipping the host stand entirely, you simply check in on My Disney Experience when you arrive at the restaurant for your dining reservation, or you can scan a QR code located in the lobby of the restaurant. Skipper Canteen This process is quick, easy, and allows guests to note any special celebration, dietary, or physical needs for their party upon checking in. While some of these changes we’ve mentioned so far are more than likely temporary, we could envision Mobile Dine Check-In being something that sticks around permanently! Only time will tell! Learn more about Mobile Dine Check-In here! We’re more confident knowing everything is clean Disney World has always been known for being a friendly, safe, and clean environment for guests of all ages. At the same time, however, Disney has historically ALSO been known as a sort of “petri dish” for germs, where you come into contact with thousands of strangers, and you’re pretty much budgeting being sick after spending a week there (at least WE used to!). This is precisely why Disney has been taking sanitation quite seriously since reopening. Sanitizer for Splash Mountain While you are only as safe as the people around you, there’s no question that Disney has doubled down on cleaning and sanitizing throughout the theme parks and resorts. The peace of mind that comes from Disney doing everything in their power to keep the parks safe and clean is welcomed. If and when things return more toward “normal” we could easily see many of the new sanitation protocols hanging around. Going to Disney World and NOT coming home with a sore throat and sniffles sounds like a positive many would be on board with! Is Disney World safe right now? We shared our thoughts here! Things can be more spontaneous Before the closures, a LOT of time and energy went into planning a Disney World vacation. Booking the best dining reservations meant waking up very early six months ahead of your trip. We also needed to know two months ahead of arrival precisely when we wanted to ride our favorite rides and attractions (which meant knowing which park you were in each day already…but you likely already figured that out months prior to book your dining!). We’re big-time planners but it’s hard to not enjoy the go with the flow vibes in the parks right now. Jungle Cruise Missing FastPass Line These days, a lot of that advance planning has been cut short, or cut out entirely. Dining reservation windows now open up 60 days ahead of time instead of 180 days, and FastPass+ has been temporarily suspended. Trips can be far more “spontaneous” without so much fear that all of the good reservations are gone. Beast in Be Our Guest There’s still plenty that can go into planning the ultimate Disney World vacation, but some folks may prefer this new model where your spreadsheet doesn’t have to be perfected months in advance! Read more about the major changes made to dining at Disney World here! Shorter park hours means more time to relax The last thing we actually prefer that surprised us was the shorter park hours. We’re usually down for a 12-hour day (or longer!) in the parks from rope drop to close. Since the parks have reopened, however, we’re seeing park hours that are WAY shorter than before. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort What this has given guests is much more time to kick back and relax. You can actually spend MORE time at your resort because, well, the parks are closed earlier! There’s hardly any pressure to wake up before the sun to arrive at rope drop, and we have more time than ever to relax and wind down at the end of the night. We’re checking off all of our must-dos in much less time than before, so we can typically fully tackle each of the parks even with their reduced operating hours! Relaxing in the pool or taking time for a bubble bath during a Disney vacation? Yes, please! Check out our top tips for staying at a Disney World Resort hotel RIGHT NOW by clicking here! While it’s been hard to adjust to some of the changes made to Disney World’s day-to-day operations since the closures, there are just as many changes that we actually like MORE these days! Some of these changes are temporary and will likely go away once things return to “normal,” but we not-so-secretly hope some of these changes are a little more permanent! In these unprecedented times, Disney World has been forced to make big changes to the guest experience, but it has all been with the intention of making a vacation to Disney World as magical as possible! 15. When we think of iconic Disney World snacks, Mickey Waffles are one of the first eats that come to mind! Mickey Waffles How can you make this incredible, classic Disney World treat even better? Putting them in an ice cream sundae might do the trick! So, when we came across the Mickey Waffle Sundae at BoardWalk Bakery, we HAD to try it — for science, of course! When we strolled into BoardWalk Bakery, the first thing that caught our eye was the sign for the Mickey Waffle Sundae — three of our FAVORITE words! Guests can purchase the sundae in a regular bowl for $10.01… Sign for the Mickey Waffle Sundae …or in a Mickey Ears souvenir bowl for $15.97. Guests can get the sundae in a souvenir bowl for an extra cost! That Mickey Ears bowl was too cute to pass up, so we opted for the upgrade! Mickey Waffle Sundae The sundae comes with one chocolate Mickey Waffle, one vanilla Mickey Waffle, cookie dough ice cream, whipped cream, sprinkles, and a cherry on top. In other words, the makings of a solid, classic sundae with an extra twist! Here’s a closer look at the Mickey Waffle Sundae! And that chocolate Mickey Waffle did NOT disappoint — it had a perfect consistency! In fact, the whole sundae was delicious! As we expected, it had all of the makings of a great, classic sundae, and the addition of the Mickey Waffles really elevated the texture and added more flavors into the mix! Check out that Chocolate Mickey Waffle! The only downfall of this treat — it doesn’t come with much ice cream. Since the bowl isn’t very deep, the waffles take up a lot of the space! Here’s a look at the ice cream! So, if you’re looking for an ice cream heavy dessert, this one might not be for you. But other than that, we’d say it’s a winner in our book! And just look at that adorable souvenir bowl! Mickey Ears Bowl! So, after our scientific research, we think adding Mickey Waffles into an ice cream sundae DOES make them even better! 21. We headed out to EPCOT today to see what’s happening in the park! EPCOT We made our way to Biergarten Restaurant in the Germany Pavilion for an early dinner, and we were SHOCKED by how empty it was! Since EPCOT reopened earlier this month, the crowds have been relatively light — as is evidenced by the low wait times for attractions. But still, we were surprised to see just how few people were dining at Biergarten Restaurant when we headed there for dinner today! Biergarten Restaurant We’re used to this restaurant buzzing with energy and activity, so it was an unusual sight when we realized that we had the place nearly to ourselves!
