If there’s a new dessert, you can bet your Disney buttons that we’re ALL over it. Lately, we’ve been sipping on sweet drinks like the Chipotle Pineapple Margarita and the two new fruity drinks at Starbucks, but now we’re shifting gears to talk cake. The Wave Since Disney World hasn’t reopened all of its restaurants or resorts just yet, we’ve been keeping up with each of the spots opening again around the area. Although many quick-service and table-service places have reduced their menus during the initial stages of Disney’s reopening, we spotted a returning item… just not where we expected to find it! The Bay Lake Tower is an exclusive Disney Vacation Club Member spot with a beautiful view of the lake and some great restaurants (with even better food). Although the Top of the World Lounge has a great Vegas-theme as you enjoy some serious views at the top level of the resort, we get WAY too focused on a sweet slice of the Seven Layer Cake on the menu. Seven Layer Cake for Two The tall slice of cake is layered with chocolate cake, yellow cake, SO MUCH mousse, and ganache with a salted caramel sauce (brb drooling) that ties the whole thing together. Although the Seven Layer Cake has been exclusive to the Top of the World, the lounge is currently closed at the moment. Seven Layer Cake — Side View However, we were surprised (and more than happy) to find that the Seven Layer Cake has resort-hopped on over to The Wave at Disney’s Contemporary Resort! When we checked the official menu at the restaurant, the cake wasn’t listed as one of the offerings during this time. BUT, that just means that The Wave is serving up a secret item for everyone who decides to visit. Seven Layer Cake Although the Seven Layer Cake might be in a new place right now, it still tastes just as good as we remember. All that chocolate and caramel should be savored, so we recommend maybe grabbing an extra slice (just for good measure). While we make our way around the parks and resorts, we’ll keep an eye out for even MORE food news and other goodies to share with you. While we have loved visiting the World Showcase’s restaurants and riding Test Track again, EPCOT has a pretty big maze of construction in the park right now. EPCOT Although we’ve been giving you a look at everything we find during our park walks (even pumpkin spice goodies and HUGE discounts), it looks like Disney World could be moving forward with one of its new pieces of entertainment in EPCOT! While our DFB reader @chtheade was exploring the parks, she gave us a look at a few fireworks barges being tested in EPCOT! As Disney World continues pushing forward on the EPCOT Transformation with the PLAY! Pavilion and entrance pylons, the new Harmonious show has started to form with different floats and more in the park. Photo Courtesy of: chtheade Although we’ve already shown you a sneak peek of the barges being constructed, we’re now seeing firework barges being tested on the lagoon. Navigational buoys are out in the water as Cast Members move forward with creating a piece of magic. The nighttime spectacular will include fireworks as well as lasers, dancing fountains, and floating set pieces when it debuts for Disney World’s 50th anniversary. Sunshine, sweet animals, and a drink in hand — that sounds like a pretty good way to spend our day in Disney’s Animal Kingdom! Tree of Life As we ease into the park’s new set of hours for September through November, Animal Kingdom has been one of the best places to visit for lower wait times, cleaning supplies (!!!), and even construction for new structures at our favorite attractions. But, today, we’re adding a reopened drink spot to our growing list of places to visit in Animal Kingdom during our visits! Drinkwallah is BACK, folks (and yes, that means we going to sip on plenty of slushies)! Drinkwallah Before guests go up to the counter, there are distancing markers on the ground to make sure that guests and Cast Members are kept apart from one another. Drinkwallah Distancing Measures While there are plenty of slushies like Coca-Cola, Blue Raspberry, and Minute Maid Lemonade… Drinkwallah Menu …we’re HERE for that sweet Frozen Coca-Cola Slush mixed up with Jack Daniel’s Whiskey or Captain Morgan Spiced Rum for $11. It just really hits the spot after a long day of walking around in the Florida hit to ride Flight of Passage back-to-back. Since we’re not eating out anymore…like ever…we’ve been looking for ways to get creative in the kitchen with some of our most-missed Disney recipes! Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar You KNOW we’ve been trying tons of delish Disney recipes. Our favorite so far? Probably the Dole Whip (two ways!)…what can we say, we’re suckers for a good Dole Whip! But will we potentially have a new contender in the mix today? Let’s find out! We’re taking a trip to a Disneyland cult-favorite restaurant today as we make the delicious Panko-crusted Long Beans from Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar. Well…kind of! This is gonna be a LOT easier than if we made ’em from scratch, though! Panko-Crusted Long Beans Pro tip: Grab your favorite tiki mug (like this cute Baby Yoda one!) and whip up a Disney cocktail to sip on while you cook! Let’s get into the recipe! Ingredients 1 box of P.F. Chang’s Crispy Green Beans (See? We told you this would be easy and you can totally drink mai tais while you cook.) 3/4 cup Mayonnaise 1 tsp Sriracha 1 tsp Rice Wine Vinegar 1 tsp Course Salt 1 tsp Thinly Sliced Green Onion; Green Parts Only 1/4 tsp Fresh Lime Juice 1/4 tsp Chopped Garlic 1/8 tsp Freshly Ground Black Pepper Ingredients! Recipe Follow the instructions on the box to prepare the P.F. Chang’s Crispy Green Beans. Yes…the main component of this recipe is really THAT easy. Cook up some frozen breaded green beans. If you can turn on your oven and follow the directions on the box, you can whip up these bad boys! P.F. Chang’s Green Beans We cooked ours up in an air fryer cause we basically cook EVERYTHING in our air fryer. As they cook, combine the rest of the ingredients in a small bowl and mix well. Feel free to add more salt or pepper to taste. If you’re like us, you might give it a heavy extra squirt of Sriracha to kick up the heat. Refrigerate until the beans are ready. Finished beans! When the beans are done, serve! We used some nice tiki-themed bowls to really complete the experience but any old bowls will be just fine. (If you have a souvenir bowl from an Uh Oa! or a Sea Monster’s Embrace at the Enchanted Tiki Bar, one of those will set the mood nicely!) Let’s eat! Pretty simple, huh? Basically, we’re gonna be whipping these babies up every time we can get our hands on the beans, so if you need us, you’ll find us in our kitchens! Or in the freezer aisle hunting for pre-made beans! This is quite possibly one of the easiest yet still satisfying recipes we’ve shared! We have great news for Downtown Disney guests looking to enjoy some beignets, gumbo, and jambalaya! Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen Express The Downtown Disney district at Disneyland Resort began a phased reopening on July 9th. Since then, additional locations have also started to welcome back guests — including Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen and its quick service counterpart Jazz Kitchen Express which reopened on August 12th. We headed to the restaurant on reopening day to check out the new safety measures which include social distancing markers, plexiglass barriers, and outdoor dining only. Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen And now, guests looking to dine at the quick service Jazz Kitchen Express have the option to use mobile ordering! Guests can skip the line and place their to-go order through the Jazz Kitchen Express website! During visits to Walt Disney World Resort, the delicious “Grey Stuff” and many, many other mouthwatering dishes are just a few easy taps away with mobile ordering off our digital menus. It’s menu magic technology that limits contact and is simple to use – scan a QR code, select and enjoy! Currently, most quick-service park restaurant menus are available in the Mobile Order section of the My Disney Experience app and/or displayed on signage at the restaurant. And at select table-service locations, you can easily access a digital menu by scanning a QR code for a magical dining experience. FYI, there are a lot of Disney World acronyms you might run into during your vacation planning! Walt Disney World Ever found yourself scouring the web for Disney World info only to come across folks talking about why you should skip SSE first thing in the morning and hit up TT before going to WS? HUH?! While some of these shortened terms for Disney rides and concepts are pretty easy to decipher, others might leave you scratching your head, tbh. If you don’t speak this rare and exotic language of Disney-isms, we’re here to help! So, let’s rank 23 of the most common Disney World acronyms from NBD to OMG! And on your next Disney planning foray, you’ll be an EXPERT! WDW — Walt Disney World Okay, let’s start off with the easiest of the acronyms and work our way up to expert-level! Standing in for Walt Disney World, WDW is the shorthand that some guests might find themselves using when planning their vacation! Disney World WDW is short, easy to remember, and references a term that pretty much anyone who visits is sure to know; which makes it the easiest Disney World (or should we say, WDW) acronym in our book! Planning a trip to Disney World? Here are seven things you’re probably forgetting! MK — Magic Kingdom Short for Magic Kingdom, MK is an acronym that most guests will pick up on pretty quickly. Magic Kingdom is considered by many to be the most iconic Disney World park, so this abbreviation isn’t too tough to place! Magic Kingdom And since most guests know this park as “Magic Kingdom” the acronym matches up. This isn’t the case for all of the parks — more on that later! Planning out your Magic Kingdom meals? Check out our “eat this, not that” breakdown of Magic Kingdom dining! FP+ — FastPass+ While FastPass+ isn’t quite as intuitive as the names of the parks or Disney World itself, many guests will encounter it early in their vacation planning process. Haunted Mansion The FP+ (or just FP without the +) acronym is short and easy to remember, especially since it comes up frequently throughout park days! Here are three tips your need to master the FastPass+ tiers at Disney World! CM — Cast Member With only two letters, this acronym is pretty simple and straightforward. For those unfamiliar with the term, Disney refers to employees as Cast Members or CMs for short, because Walt always said his parks were a “show,” and everyone who worked in them was “on stage.” Magic Kingdom Cast Member And while this is a unique term that all visitors might not be familiar with (especially those on their first Disney vacation!) once you hear this one, it’s pretty easy to commit to memory! Check out the reopening day at Disney Springs from the perspective of Cast Members! DAK — Disney’s Animal Kingdom Remember how we mentioned that the other park acronyms are a bit trickier than Magic Kingdom? Well, here we are! While most guests know the park as “Animal Kingdom” its full name is Disney’s Animal Kingdom — hence the abbreviation of DAK. Entrance to Disney’s Animal Kingdom That extra letter might throw off an unsuspecting guest trying to decode an acronym! But since it’s still relatively close to the initials that most guests know this park by, DAK still manages to fall on the easier end of the acronym scale. And yes, you will see some folks abbreviate it as just AK, to make things more confusing! When in doubt, stick with DAK. Is Yak & Yeti Restaurant in Animal Kingdom worth a reservation? Check out our most recent review! DHS — Disney’s Hollywood Studios You can probably tell where this one is going! Most guests know this park as simply “Hollywood Studios” — or even “MGM” from the good old days — so the abbreviation of DHS could throw you for a loop. Disney’s Hollywood Studios But despite the extra layer of confusion given the name change in 2008, the official name of the park is now Disney’s Hollywood Studios — and so we arrive at the DHS acronym! Here are some of our favorite photos and videos from Disney’s Hollywood Studios throughout the years! MDE or MDX — My Disney Experience The My Disney Experience app allows guests to manage dining reservations, make FastPass+ selections, snag a boarding group for Rise of the Resistance, check wait times, and more. But, while many people will get a lot of use out of this tool, it might not be a topic at the top of their mind when trying to decode an acronym! My Disney Experience If you think of this as something like the “Disney World app” or the “wait time checker” the MDE abbreviation might not click right away! And MDX (My Disney EXperience…get it…) may make even less sense! But trust us, next time you’re in the park texting a friend or family member to check wait times quick for Splash Mountain, it’s much easier to just say “check MDE” instead of the lengthier “check My Disney Experience” or “check the WDW app!” Every second counts! You don’t think THIS makes a difference on your Disney World vacation, but it DOES! ADR — Advance Dining Reservation Outside of Disney World, we often just use the term “reservation” or maybe “restaurant reservation.” But at Disney, things are a bit extra, and Advance Dining Reservations get an acronym to match! Be Our Guest Restaurant Guests often look forward to booking their ADRs at coveted spots like Cinderella’s Royal Table and Be Our Guest Restaurant. If food is a major factor in your Disney World vacation, you’ll probably find yourself using the ADR shorthand before long! Dole Whip But since there isn’t much of a “real-life” equivalent to the dining plan, this abbreviation isn’t necessarily intuitive. Especially for guests who aren’t on the DDP themselves! DVC — Disney Vacation Club You might hear Cast Members and Disney Vacation Club members use this acronym a lot, but to the average guest, the term DVC probably doesn’t mean much. Disney’s Riviera Resort For those still wondering what this means, Disney Vacation Club is a vacation ownership program, or timeshare, that allows members to lock in years of future vacations. So it makes sense why this can seem like an obscure acronym, especially for first-time Disney-goers! Take a look inside Topolino’s Terrace in Disney’s Riviera Resort! TTC — Transportation and Ticket Center Have you ever had a Cast Member (or fellow guest) tell you to head to the “TTC” and found yourself thinking, “What the heck is that??” Well, TTC is short for Transportation and Ticket Center — the monorail, ferry, and bus transportation hub that services both Magic Kingdom and EPCOT. Monorail Station at Walt Disney World Ticket and Transportation Center The TTC isn’t mentioned much in casual Disney World conversations — if you’re talking to your coworker or friend about their vacation, they’re not likely to randomly mention the TTC! So this is an acronym that’s not on most people’s radars until they encounter it themselves. Here are five Disney World experiences you have to try! SDD — Slinky Dog Dash There are a number of attractions in Disney World that have earned their own acronyms. Due to its popularity, we think Slinky Dog Dash, abbreviated SDD, is one of the easier ones to remember! Slinky Dog Dash You can often catch us searching for a FP+ for SDD when in DHS! ROTR — Rise of the Resistance Another attraction abbreviation that may be at the top of your mind is Rise of the Resistance, or ROTR, the headlining attraction in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Rise of the Resistance And based on the importance of snagging a boarding group first thing in the morning, the shorthand for this ride might be a helpful time-saver! Happily Ever After So, this acronym could be a little extra tricky for Disney World guests who are visiting for the first time since the previous fireworks show, Wishes, was replaced! These fireworks aren’t currently available but we’re waiting to hear when we can see HEA light up the sky again! You can watch the Happily Ever After fireworks from the comfort of your own home! SDMT or 7DMT — Seven Dwarfs Mine Train You might see Seven Dwarfs Mine Train over in Magic Kingdom abbreviated as either SDMT or 7DMT. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in Magic Kingdom And while the SDMT acronym can take a little bit of puzzle to figure out, the inclusion of the number in the 7DMT abbreviation is a helpful hint! Did you know there’s a restaurant in Disney World where you can meet Snow White, the Evil Queen, Grumpy, AND Dopey?? BTMRR — Big Thunder Mountain Railroad At first glance, this might seem like a random assortment of letters. But since RR is a widely known abbreviation for “railroad,” that’s a tip-off that BTMRR is the acronym for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad It is a pretty lengthy name for an attraction so that shorthand could end up being helpful! Next time you’re in MK try tossing this one out there and see who knows what you’re talking about! Here are 11 super-helpful Disney World tips that no one seems to know about! FOTLK — Festival of the Lion King We think Festival of the Lion King, or FOTLK, is a must-do in Animal Kingdom! It’s a stunning show that involves live music, acrobatics, dancing, and FIRE! Festival of the Lion King So, if you see letters FOTLK, don’t just scan over it — this is an acronym that’s definitely worth decoding! Heads up, we’re guilty of calling this one the slightly easier to remember FOLK, so if you see that one you know what’s up! Here are 12 essentials that you NEED in your Disney World park bag! ITTBAB — It’s Tough to be a Bug! This is one that might break your brain if you try to figure it out without context! It’s Tough to be a Bug!, or ITTBAB, is a show held inside the Tree of Life at Animal Kingdom. It’s Tough to Be a Bug! It’s a super long acronym, and since ITTBAB isn’t typically thought of as a major attraction, you might have to rack your brain for a while before you work this one out! Was Disney purposely trying to terrify us with the “butt-bug” effect in It’s Tough to be a Bug!? Here’s the answer to that, and other burning questions we all have about Disney World! BWI — Disney’s BoardWalk Inn The shorthand for Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, BWI, can be a little extra tricky since it has two letters from the same word. This acronym might be shorter than some of the attractions, but we think the hotel abbreviations are harder to decode for most guests, especially if they’ve never stayed there! Disney’s BoardWalk Inn Oh, and unlike the park acronyms, despite most of the hotels starting with “Disney’s,” the D is not typically included in their common abbreviations. The joy of Disney World acronyms! Here are some tips for picking the best Disney World Resort hotel for your family! Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, or CBR is a HUGE moderate resort in the EPCOT Resort area. We’re ROCKIN’ our way through Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Earlier this week, we spotted a new collection of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster merchandise in Hollywood Studios. And it looks like the jam session was just getting started! After exiting Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, guests will find themselves inside the attraction’s gift shop, Rock Around the Shop. On our visit to Hollywood Studios, we decided to walk this way — and we’re glad that we did! Toy Story Land brings the stories and characters from Pixar Animation Studios’ “Toy Story” films to life in a whole new way at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Andy’s turned his backyard into a theme park for Woody, Buzz Lightyear and all his other favorite toys, and we’re invited to play along! When you explore this vibrant land, you feel like you’re the size of a toy, with stacks of blocks towering above you, festive lights strung overhead and even benches are made from popsicle sticks! The land’s three attractions – Slinky Dog Dash, Toy Story Mania! and Alien Swirling Saucers – offer fun for the whole family as you immersive yourself in the stories of your favorite toys. Today we’re taking you “Behind the Magic” of Toy Story Land to learn more about this special place and how it helped transform Disney’s Hollywood Studios. We’ve been making frequent stops to Disney Springs in Walt Disney World lately! AMC Movie Theatre Reopening Halloween merchandise has been a hot topic at the World of Disney. But, what about the rest of Disney Springs? We explored the rest of the shopping and dining district to see what’s new and noteworthy! Disney Springs Opening Updates lululemon Shoppers can officially buy high-quality yoga pants from Disney Springs! The athletic store officially opened TODAY! We were greeted by some VERY enthusiastic employees who were happy to assist us. Disney Springs The store is equipped with physical distancing rules in place. A few dressing rooms were open for trying on clothes, social distancing markers were in place, and a sign out front noted that we could join a virtual line if the store reached capacity. Take a look inside the new lululemon location here! AMC Dine-In Movie Theatre AMC had to delay reopening multiple times to accommodate movie production delays and cancelations. Now, the theatre has reopened in Disney Springs along with many other locations! AMC Movie Theatre Reopening For the grand reopening, movies were only 15 cents and many others will be as low as $5 going forward! AMC Movie Theatre Reopening We stepped inside to see what’s playing. The theatre is showing classics like Back to the Future, Beauty and the Beast, and The Goonies. Newer films like Black Panther and Sonic the Hedgehog are also playing. AMC Movie Theatre Reopening Day Movies The theater is practicing health and safety protocols like requiring guests to wear masks and lowering theater capacity. Jaleo Jaleo welcomed back dining guests this week! Jaleo Reopening As of now, the restaurant is closed Monday through Wednesday but will be open from 4PM to 10PM Thursday through Sunday for dinner. Jaleo Reopening Menu Jaleo will recognize the health and safety protocols that required guests to remain socially distant while dining and increase the restaurant’s cleaning routines. But occasionally, Disney will release additional availability for Passholders. And if you’re a Disney World Annual Passholder looking to head to the parks soon, get ready to act fast — additional Disney Park Pass availability has been released for ALL FOUR parks for Annual Passholders! Currently, all four parks are available for Annual Passholders for the next week straight! With the Walt Disney Family Museum still closed, the San Francisco-based treasury has been releasing virtual programs to entertain and educate fans across the globe! ©Disney As part of their Happily Ever After Hours series, we’ve learned how to make a Gurrtiki last spring ( it’s an homage in a glass to Disney Legend Bob Gurr!). Now a brand new roster of education talks has just been announced for the late half of August and into September. The virtual program with actor Bobby Moynihan on August 26th has already sold out. Other speakers include Art Director and Former Imagineer Ray Spencer on August 21st, Filmmaker and Tonko House Co-Founder Robert Kondo on September 2nd, and Visual Effects Supervisor Dennis Muren on September 9th! @Disney Other virtual programs scheduled for next month include a storytime with Author and Illustrator Svetla Radivoeva reading Malina’s Jam on September 10th and Imagineer Tania Norris discussing her role at WED Enterprises during the time she worked as an interior design for Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion. All four theme parks in Walt Disney World have now reopened to guests. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Since the reopening, we’ve seen a number of changes including changes in certain policies, additions to My Disney Experience, and many more. In fact, we shared with you just a little while ago that park hours would be changing in early September. Now we’ve actually got a peek at what park hours will be a bit further out this year. Previously, park hours were only available to view on the Disney website through the end of October 2020. But, we checked the website today and were able to see the operating hours for all of the theme parks for the first week of November 2020. Screenshot from Walt Disney World Website It looks like all four parks will be staying at the reduced hours that will begin on September 8th. Magic Kingdom will be open from 9AM-6PM. EPCOT’s hours will be from 11AM-7PM. Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be open from 10AM-7PM. And the park hours for Disney’s Animal Kingdom will be 9AM-5PM. There’s been a lot of talk about Baby Yoda MagicBands lately! ©Disney That’s because last week a new MagicBand featuring the child showed up as an option on the My Disney Experience app for Disney World hotel guests and Annual Passholders to pre-order, but the picture of it was missing! We later found out it was a data entry error and we were finally able to see the Baby Yoda MagicBand in all its glorious splendor! As it turns out — this was just the of the Baby Yoda Magicband iceberg! One of our readers was visiting EPCOT today and came across a surprise release!
