Walt Disney World has officially been reopened for a little over two months now. Main Street, USA Despite reduced park capacity, it hasn’t necessarily been any easier to get reservations at some of Disney World’s most popular dining spots, like Be Our Guest Restaurant, California Grill, or Topolino’s Terrace. And that’s because Florida restaurants’ indoor seating is allowed at 50% capacity, while outdoor seating is allowed at full capacity. That means that Disney is held to those 50% capacity standards. Empty tables at Cinderella’s Royal Table But those limited indoor capacities in the Sunshine State may be lifted soon, according to a new report from The Orlando Sentinel. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced that he plans to lift capacity limits on restaurants soon and prevent any local government from keeping restaurants closed down. Wine Bar George “They’re not going to be able to be closed by locals anymore, and they’ll be able to operate at the capacity that they’re comfortable with,” Gov. DeSantis stated. As of now, however, no official order has made. California Grill BUT, just because the state may lift indoor dining restrictions, that doesn’t mean Disney will follow suit. “The capacity that they’re comfortable with” may still be limited. But if Disney does increase restaurant capacity while still limiting park capacity, that may make some hot ticket restaurants like Be Our Guest or Cinderella’s Royal Table easier to get in to. It may be hard to believe, but Disneyland has officially been closed for six months. Disneyland Park And while Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, has reopened and other Disney resorts around the world have reopened (or plan to reopen!), Disneyland still has no official reopening plan or date. And, according to a new statement from Disneyland resort president Ken Potrock, California’s lack of guidelines has put them “in limbo.” Disneyland Resort The Orange County Register reports that Potrock spoke out about his frustration in a meeting with the Southern California News Group editorial board. “We’ve been waiting for guidelines from the governor’s office. We’ve made many, many, many recommendations as to what those protocols should be,” he said “We’ve offered to help with guidance so that we can get to a place that would be reasonable for us to open. Unfortunately we haven’t received that guidance.” Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland Previously, California Governor Gavin Newsom said that negotiations with theme parks were “open-ended,” phrasing that Potrock rejected. “The governor used the term ‘negotiating’ with the amusement park industry in one of his quotes and I hope it’s not a negotiation,” he said. “I hope it’s a good collaboration and that’s what we’re attempting to achieve.” Pixar Pal-A-Round While Disneyland has no reopening plan or date officially yet, when the park DOES reopen, it will follow health and safety measures like the ones we’ve seen at Walt Disney World. Precautions at Disney World include: park capacity limits, social distancing markers, face mask requirements, plexiglass barriers at stores and in ride queues, and more. In fact, we’ve seen plexiglass and distancing markers at Disneyland’s theme parks! Plexiglass at Disney California Adventure “We can diffuse density throughout the property,” Potrock said. “We’re trying to get that across to the state government to look at it from that perspective. I’m hopeful that they’re beginning to understand that. It’s just been a long journey.” See the new plexiglass shields?! This isn’t the first time that Potrock has expressed disappointment in California’s hesitance to allow theme parks to reopen. Previously, he stated, “We are disappointed with the state’s lack of progress in providing the industry with guidance and clarity on reopening. We have proven we can operate responsibly, with strict health and safety protocols at our properties around the world and at Downtown Disney in Anaheim.” Disneyland Gate The reopening of Disneyland and talks between Disney and California and Anaheim governments is an ongoing issue, and when we hear updates, you know we’ll fill you in! There have been some exciting developments in the world of Disney dining this week! Chefs de France, which has remained closed since EPCOT reopened in July, started to show some signs of life on its website page, hinting that it may be preparing to welcome guests back! Signs now point to a potential early October opening, although reservations are still unavailable as of this writing and we have yet to hear an official announcement. Chefs de France As the restaurant prepares to reopen, we CAN announce that we noticed some MAJOR cutbacks to their menu. Once Chefs de France reopens, there will only be a fraction of appetizers, entrees, and desserts to order for lunch and dinner. Starting off with appetizers, we were relieved to see that the Escargot and French Onion Soup are STILL on the menu. French Onion Soup from Chefs de France Other appetizers, however, weren’t as lucky. A la Flamme Alsacienne (Alsace specialty Flatbread), Tartare de Saumon Légèrement Fumé (Tartare of raw salmon), Salade aux Lardons et Croutons (House greens salad), Bisque de Homard (Lobster bisque), and Assiette Campagnarde (Charcuterie) have all been REMOVED from the appetizer menu for both lunch and dinner. Chefs de France’s Appetizer Menu upon reopening © Disney Moving on to Entrees, we once again saw massive cutbacks in the menu’s offerings. The lunch and dinner menu has been whittled down to four entree options: Filet de Saumon (Salmon), Salade du Chef au Poulet (Chicken salad), Boeuf Bourguignon (Beef braised in Cabernet), and Filet de Boeuf Grillé (Grilled tenderloin). Grilled Beef Tenderloin from Chefs de France All of the remaining entrees have been REMOVED from Chef de France’s menu. This includes Lasagnes de Légumes du Soleil à L’huile D’olive au Thym (Vegetable Lasagna), Salade Niçoise (Salad with Ahi tuna), Assiette du Pécheur (Seared monkfish, shrimp, and cod fish), Filets de Truite Grenobloise (Seared trout filet), Poulet Fermier à la Lyonnaise (Lyon-style roasted chicken), Canard à L’orange (Seared duck), Jarret de Porc Braisé (Braised Berkshire pork shank), Gratin de Macaroni (Macaroni Baked), and Steak aux Échalottes (Grilled flat iron steak). The good news is that the Crème Brûlée, Tarte au Chocolat, and Salade de Fruits Rouges à la Menthe WILL all be available when the restaurant reopens. Creme Brulee The remaining desserts from Chefs de France have sadly been CUT from the menu. This includes Cygne Profiterole au Chocolat (Swan Cream Puff), Tarte aux Pommes (Apple Tart), Meringue aux Fruits Rouges (Meringue Basket), and Assiette de Sorbets du Jour (Daily assortment of Fresh Sorbets). The Pâtes au Jambon et Fromage (Pasta with Ham) was removed from the Kids’ Entree selections, and the Dessert menu was updated by REMOVING Choix de Glace ou Sorbert (Ice Cream or Sorbet), Biscuit au Chocolat (Chocolate Chip Cookie), and Yaourt aux Fruits Rouge (Lowfat Yogurt) and ADDING Mousse au Chocolate (Chocolate Mousse) and Tarte aux Fraises (Strawberry Tart). The France Pavilion in EPCOT has some pretty delicious dining options. Chefs de France You might remember that though Chefs de France has been closed since the reopening of Disney World, we spotted some hours pop up for the restaurant this Friday. Those hours have since been removed and now, there are hours showing up for a DIFFERENT date. Could this be when we’ll be dining on French Onion Soup again? Here’s a glimpse of how the Chefs de France hours looked yesterday. As you can see, they seemed to indicate that the restaurant could open tomorrow. Screenshot from the Disney World website Now, September 25th is once again listed as “No Times Available” as are the dates through October 7th. Screenshot from the Disney World website On October 8th, though, we see a change. Beginning that day, hours are listed as 12:30PM to 3:55PM for lunch and 4PM to 6:50PM for dinner. Keep in mind, we have yet to hear an official reopening announcement for Chefs de France, so these listed hours are no guarantee that the restaurant will open. Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa in Hawaii has been closed since March due to the global health crisis. Disney’s Aulani Resort Soon after the closure, Disney noted that the resort would be closed “until further notice.” Recently, reservations at Aulani were canceled through mid-October. But, now, Disney has announced an official reopening date for Aulani and details about added health and safety measures that will be utilized at this Disney Vacation Club resort. Disney has stated that due to “Hawaii’s recent announcement of a pre-arrival testing program for those traveling out-of-state,” they will be working toward a phased reopening of Aulani beginning on November 1st. Aulani Reopening Date Disney has noted that they will be taking a “gradual, phased approach to reopening” that will consider the “guidance of local and national government and health authorities.” According to Disney, they are taking this approach so that they will be able to evaluate and adjust their processes along the way as the situation and recommendations from authorities evolve. ©Disney Aulani is one of the only Disney Vacation Club properties that is still closed. The only other Disney Vacation Club property that remains closed is in Disneyland. Now, guests will be able to return in just a few weeks. Given Hawaii’s recent announcement of a pre-arrival testing program for those traveling from out-of-state, we are working toward a phased reopening of Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa beginning on Sunday, November 1. And just like our other Disney destinations that have re-opened, we are using a measured approach that focuses on the health and safety of our guests, cast and community. Our gradual, phased approach to reopening considers the guidance of local and national government and health authorities, including the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as the U.S. Travel Association and Disney’s team of health and safety experts. This deliberate approach allows us to evaluate and adjust along the way, as circumstances and the recommendations of health authorities evolve. Because each of us shares a responsibility for the health of our community, we will be making resources available to help make guests aware of our new policies, so they, too, can do their part. It seems like Disney World is getting a lot busier on weekends. We expected it on holiday weekends like Labor Day for example, but it looks like that’s extended into the rest of the year, too. Magic Kingdom Castle Since the theme parks reopened, Annual Passholders (and other guests) have had to snag a Disney Park Pass reservations before entering the park. Reservations, especially for Disney’s Hollywood Studios have been filling up FAST. Thus meaning APs are having to book weeks, and sometimes months in advance if they’re looking to visit Hollywood Studios. We took a look at the Park Pass reservations for Annual Passholders for December, and the first weekend is already filling up. Hollywood Studios passes for the first Saturday of the month, December 5th, are already GONE. Walt Disney World Park Pass Availability ©Disney And it’s likely the rest of the parks will fill up quickly, too. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge If you’re looking to visit Disney World that weekend, it’s probably a good idea to book those park passes now. However, if they do fill up, we recommend that you keep checking the site, because Disney occasionally releases more availability for Passholders. We’ll keep an eye on the situation for the next few months, and let you know what days are filling up, as well as what days end up with more availability. Stay tuned! Bright Suns, traveler! This summer Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge celebrated its first anniversary! It is impossible to fathom — it feels like just yesterday that we were walking through the gates to The Black Spire Outpost for the first time. We get chills just thinking about it! Oga’s Cantina at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios Traditionally the first-anniversary gift is paper, but we always find it best to celebrate with something of the food or drink variety. Disney Parks Blog is here with an assist. They’ve published the recipe for the famous, non-alcoholic, Cliff Dweller. If you’ve been lucky enough to sidle up to the bar at Oga’s Cantina then you probably noticed The Cliff Dweller. This drink is served in a ceramic mug shaped like a Porg and is a favorite with smugglers of every age. Cliff Dweller Nothing helps cool you off after evading Batuu’s legion of Stormtroopers like a cocktail, or mocktail, in Oga’s little cantina off of Smuggler’s Alley. And now we can make these at home! Most of the ingredients are things we already had, though we did have to track down the hibiscus grenadine. THE CLIFF DWELLER Ingredients: 3 oz orange juice 3 oz pineapple juice 1 oz lime juice 1/2 oz hibiscus grenadine 1 oz cream of coconut 1 oz ginger ale Instructions: Combine orange juice, pineapple juice, lime juice, grenadine, and cream of coconut in Boston cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well and pour over fresh ice in a tall glass. Top with ginger ale. Now, we just need a Happabore Sampler and the instructions for making the Jedi Mind Trick from home, and we’ll be good to go! If you’ve ever been a Cast Member, perhaps spoken to a Cast Member, or even taken a backstage tour at Disney World, like the Keys to the Kingdom Tour, you may have heard about Disney’s four keys to a great guest experience — Safety, Courtesy, Show, and Efficiency. Cinderella Castle For decades, these keys have served as guiding principles behind Disney’s guest service. But, according to WDW Magic, Disney has now announced that it plans to add a fifth key to the set — Inclusion. Cast Member at Pizzerizzo WDW Magic reports that this new key “represents the company’s commitment to cultural transformation.” Once this key is officially added, it will become a part of all Cast Members’ lives every day in their work for Disney. Pinocchio Village Haus Cast Member The keys are currently set in a hierarchy — meaning that Disney considered Safety to be most important, followed by Courtesy, then Show, and, lastly, Efficiency. WDW Magic notes that the position of this new key in the hierarchy has not yet been determined. Can you ever have too many Halloween snacks at Disney World? Survey says…no way! The Artisan’s Palette We’ve tried LOTS of pumpkin spice treats, adorable Halloween cupcakes, spooktacular cotton candy, and more! Now, we’ve spotted another Halloween cupcake in Disney World, and we just had to give it a try to see how it stacks up against all the rest! Introducing the NEW Caramel Cauldron Cupcake! Caramel Cauldron Cupcake This Halloween snack features a chocolate cupcake filled with a salted caramel buttercream and sauce and it’s garnished with chocolate flames and a witch’s broom. The outside of the treat looks like a cauldron the Sanderson Sisters would totally approve of. We just wanted to fly away with this one! Caramel Cauldron Cupcake We grabbed one of these at The Artist’s Palette in Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort, but you can also find it at Good’s Food To Go at Disney’s Old Key West Resort, and Conch Flats General Store also at Old Key West. Caramel Cauldron Cupcake There’s no denying this treat is fa-boo-lous, but how does it taste? AMAZING. The salted caramel buttercream icing inside the cupcake was a favorite icing flavor already, so we loved it as the filling. There was also some tasty caramel drizzle on this beautiful baby. Caramel Cauldron Cupcake The cake was nice and moist. The decorations were super cute, and the broom held up well, although the flame eventually dwindled. Halloweentime is in full swing in Disney World and we’ve got MORE treats to try! Halloween Decorations We’ve already had a BUNCH of delicious fall and Halloween delights like the Pumpkin Whoopie Pie, the Not So Poison Apple Cupcake, and the Pumpkin Cheesecake Cannoli. Now, we’re trying another Halloween eat — and this one is for the cookie fanatics! We stopped by The Artist’s Palette at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa today to try out the Monster Cookie Bag! This treat is available here AND in Disney’s Old Key West Resort at Good’s Food To Go and Conch Flats General Store. Monster Cookie Bag These little cookies are packed with fun flavors. Inside each bag you’ll find sweet and salty chocolate chip, pretzel, and candy-filled cookie bites. Yum! Monster Cookie Bag Cookies! We got 6 cookies in our bag, and each one had some chocolate candies as well as some broken pieces of pretzels in it. The cookies were crispy, although not overdone by any means. But, they definitely weren’t gooey, so if you like your cookies to be on the extremely soft side, then these may not be the best choice for you. So Much Cookie Goodness We also found that they were very salty, which we really enjoyed! If you love a good sweet and salty snack, then you’ll probably really like these! But, we could definitely see these being too salty for some. Overall, these were a fairly simple but tasty treat! The entertainment world and beyond were shaken when Marvel legend Chadwick Boseman passed away last month. ©@nikkolas_smith The Black Panther actor left quite a mark on fans around the world with his inspiring strength and undeniable talent. Creators around the world have worked to pay tribute to Boseman, whether with Disney+’s Chadwick Boseman: A Tribute for a King — or, with the just-unveiled “King Chad” mural in Downtown Disney. Today, the new mural was unveiled in Downtown Disney with concept artist and former Imagineer Nikkolas Smith standing by for the reveal. Smith created the piece in the hopes of honoring the life and legacy of Chadwick Boseman. The mural depicts Boseman and a youth cancer patient sharing a moment. ©@waltdisneyimagineering @waltdisneyimagineering and @nikkolas_smith both shared images of the reveal on Instagram. Smith, who worked on a Children’s Hospital project with Boseman, noted, “To millions of kids, T’Challa was a legend larger than life, and there was no one more worthy to fill those shoes than Chadwick Boseman.” ©@waltdisneyimagineering The inscription on the mural reads, “As a former Disney Imagineer, I had the honor of working on a major children’s hospital initiative and Avengers Campus as my final two assignments.
