Ah, there’s nothing like the freshly fallen snow. When you live in a place where it doesn’t snow, it is always pretty to look at. (Let’s be honest. I don’t miss the cold and snow from my hometown.) Dining in TOKYO Disneyand: The Pizza Spring Roll
Disney4me posted a topic in Disney Food/Restaurants
Having just returned from an amazing trip to the Tokyo Disney Resort, there are a few items there that I just have to share with you! The Pizza Spring Roll being basically at the tip top of my list. Yes, you read that right PIZZA SPRING ROLL! Pizza Spring Roll Located in Tokyo Disneyland’s Toon Town is this adorable little food cart that serves two types of Spring Rolls. Don’t mind my husband ordering in what appears to look like a Ninja Turtle outfit. It happened to be pouring rain! Toon Town Spring Roll Cart The two types of Spring Rolls offered are Pizza (yum) and Egg & Shrimp (not so yum). If you’re curious about pricing, 290 Yen is about $2.42. Very reasonable for a filling snack. Spring Roll Cart Menu The Spring Rolls are pre-made and awaiting your arrival at Toon Town. Both types look identical, so the different sleeves let you know which type of roll you have in hand. The red packaging is the Pizza Spring Roll and the yellow is the Egg & Shrimp. Perfect planning! Spring Rolls in Warming Shelves. Here’s a close up of the Pizza Spring Rolls in their sleeves. Isn’t the packaging cute??? On this cold and rainy day this was really a perfect snack. They are served up very warm and are really similar to a pizza flavored Hot Pocket, but instead of a bread coating, it’s stuffed into a fried spring roll. Gooey pizza sauce & cheese with a crunchy outer shell. Seriously so amazing!!! Spring Roll Guts! And one more photo just because I love the packaging so much! See Chip & Dale’s tree house back there??? It’s just like the one we have here in Anaheim. But what we DON’T have and SHOULD have here are Pizza Spring Rolls. Pizza Spring Roll in Toon Town Have you been to the Tokyo Disney Resort and had the privilege of trying a Pizza Spring Roll? If it weren’t for my dear friend, Abi, who showed us every nook and cranny of the resort, I would have never have known about this awesome snack. I can’t wait to go back and have another. Someday. What do you think? Would you try a Pizza Spring Roll? Stay tuned because I have a few more great Tokyo Disney snacks to share! The snack scene there is pretty legit… Heather Sievers is the Disney Food Blog’s Dining in Disneyland columnist. See more of her columns here! Last week’s inaugural Castaway Cay Challenge was the first of its kind for many reasons, and today I want to share photos of one of my favorites … seeing the ship lit up under the stars at Castaway Cay! The day of the race, the ship docked early at Castaway Cay and Disney cruisers competing in the challenge had the unique opportunity to go onto the island in the early hours of the morning before the sun came up. The reflection of the ship on the water is a sight runners I spoke with said they will never forget. You may remember from a previous post of mine that I had the unique opportunity to spend the night on Castaway Cay, and the photos we took then are just a glimpse at the magnificent sky you see from an island in paradise. It was exciting to see the reaction of other cruisers as they experienced the island’s night sky for the first time. Congrats again to all of the Castaway Cay Challenge runners! If you competed the challenge, be sure to share your photos with us using #CastawayChallenge. We are back to take another look into the tempting pastry cases at Les Halles Boulangerie & Patisserie in Epcot’s France Pavilion! Learn About: Les Halles Boulangerie PatisserieEpcot Restaurants Disney World RestaurantsYou know that we love Les Halles. I never pass up a chance to stop in here for a breakfast pastry. The Frangipane Triangle is my favorite! At lunch, I often enjoy one of their deliciously authentic sandwiches, like the Jambon Beurre. It never fails to transport me straight back to France! But you will never guess what I decided to try on this visit… Chocolate Dipped Chocolate Chip MeringueOn my last trip to Walt Disney World I, of course, had to stop by Les Halles. And I finally took the opportunity to try the — I can’t believe I’m going to say this — Chocolate Dipped Chocolate Chip Meringues. Wait. No. You have no idea how HUGE this thing is from the picture of it in the case. So, being the very helpful AJ I am, I knew I had to get one for you guys! If for no other reason, so you could see it on a plate. Chocolate Chip Meringue — In the Case Okay, here we are, out in the light at one of those great little cafe tables, tucked back into the France Pavilion. And now, you can appreciate the enormity of this meringue for yourself. Chocolate Chip Meringue — Up Close Still not getting it? That’s a fork on the plate beside it, for scale. Maybe I was a little bowled over here. But I have never seen a meringue this big in my life! Chocolate Chip Meringue — The Dipped Side Now, giant size aside, you know how I feel about meringues. Basically, they’re sweet, fluffy air IMO, and not worth spending your money or your calories on. Kind of like “foam” in a fancy restaurant. What IS that?? But this one is notable for its generous size, and also for all of that wonderful Chocolate. Because that really does make a difference here. The Meringue itself seems to be lightly flavored with Chocolate, and studded with Chocolate Chips. But then, it’s dipped in Chocolate, too. So the first good news is there’s actually flavor involved. Chocolate Dipped Chocolate Chip Meringue And the second? It’s certainly big enough to share. So, if you’re a super meringue fan…or just want to be seen eating a dessert that’s easily as big as your head…it’s time to make your way over to Epcot’s France and grab one up! Don’t Miss Out on the Best Snacks in Epcot!Epcot is a snack lovers dream! Where else can you find delicious dishes from all four corners of the world, all gathered in one spot for your snacking pleasure? But with so many choices, deciding what to spend your dollars, calories, and snack credits on can become challenging. And that is precisely why we came up with The DFB Guide to Epcot Snacks e-Book! Welcome back to Pizzafari! Learn About: PizzafariAnimal Kingdom Disney World RestaurantsThe last time we visited this Animal Kingdom Counter Service spot was to try some of the breakfast offerings after they had a menu refresh. But the star of the show here is all in the name, so we’re back to review Pizzafari’s take on “Meat Lovers Pizza.†You’ll also find this item on the menu over at Pizza Planet in Hollywood Studios, and as far as atmosphere goes, that’s a pretty great spot, too. But I just so happened to be at Animal Kingdom scoping out the presumed location of the final in-Park Starbucks (the former Creature Comforts merchandise location), so Pizzafari it was! Pizzafari Pizzafari Menu Of course, it isn’t a trip to Pizzafari without checking out some of the signature murals all over the walls, no matter which room you dine in. I truly never tire of looking at these. Pizzafari mural Butterfly mural in ordering area Turtle mural Pizzafari mural But, ultimately, I strolled past the poised bobcat at the entrance (at least, I think that’s what he is) and took my pizza outside. Pizzafari entrance statue It was one of those perfect “winter” days, and you simply have to take advantage of any days you won’t melt outdoors in Florida. (Covered outdoor seating is available at Pizzafari as well.) Outdoor table View of Pizzafari from outside table Like all other pizzas served at Pizzafari, the Meat Lovers comes with a side of Caesar Salad. Meat Lovers Pizza with Caesar side salad There are just two meats to be found on the Meat Lovers pizza: pepperoni and sausage. Meat Lovers Pizza And there are a few slices of pepperoni in there, but — as you can tell — they are overwhelmed in parts by the beaucoup sausage. Closeup on toppings I like to get bad news over with first, so here goes: the Meat Lover’s Pizza is still your standard Disney World Counter Service pizza — which is to say that by and large, there’s far too much crust and not enough “center†(which typically equals not enough topping). Meat Lovers Pizza Specific to the Meat Lovers, the dough in the center that does exist isn’t hearty enough to support the heavy toppings, so it’s quite floppy — and not in the good way that a huge slice of New York pizza is floppy. I barely snapped this picture before losing some of the topping to the table. Slice of Meat Lovers Pizza The good news is that the Meat Lovers option does live up to the name (though I might call it “Sausage Lovers†over “Meat Loversâ€). The flavor burst from the sheer amount of sausage and fennel did perk up what can otherwise be a pretty bland pie, making it feel like I was getting more pizza bang for the buck than the standard cheese or pepperoni. I’d go so far as to say that this is my favorite choice among the pizza options for that reason… with the caveat that it’s still counter service pizza. Oh, just a note on the side Caesar Salad: mine was nicely fresh and crisp, and not too heavy on the dressing. True, it’s just a salad, but I enjoyed it, and since it’s included as part of the meal I thought I’d give it a nod. Side of Caesar Salad I do want to say that even though Pizzafari is a typically very busy spot during lunch hours, I always meet some wonderful, pleasant Cast Members no matter how crazy it gets. And the atmosphere and color here truly is something else. For those reasons, I still think it’s a great spot to visit, but my preference remains with breakfast for my meal of choice here. Regardless of whether we’re discussing breakfast, lunch, or dinner, there are some rumors flying around Pizzafari. Will 2015 bring a Table Service restaurant to areas of this Counter Service location? If so, how will that affect the rest of Pizzafari? With these and so many other changes possibly coming to Animal Kingdom (and some changes that are certain, like the upcoming Rivers of Light evening spectacular), we’re eager to see what’s in store! What do you do with your laundry lint? You may remember that Circle D Corral, a working ranch that is home to the animals of the Disneyland Resort, makes it into compost. Thanks to efforts begun four years ago by cast member Andrea Raney, Circle D Corral is now gold-level Zero Waste certified by the U.S. Zero Waste Business Council, with 99 percent of its waste repurposed, composted or recycled. In addition to recycling paper, cardboard, plastics and metal, Circle D Corral composts all animal waste and hay scraps, hand towels and laundry lint from the Disneyland Hotel and coffee grounds from Disneyland Resort restaurants.
