It’s the question our Disney novice neighbors, relatives, and friends ask us all the time. “When is the best time to go to Disney World?” Of course, what they really mean is, “When should I go to Disney World to avoid as many other humans as possible,” because really, no one likes to wait in lines or stand in the middle of a big crowd. Disney World We’ve been tracking the Disney World crowd levels since crowd levels became a thing. (Remember when you could go to Disney World and NOT deal with insane crowds and 120-minute wait times?) Well, those days are long gone, and it seems like the crowds aren’t going anywhere any time soon. So, let’s talk about the ten weeks we’re predicting LOW crowds in Disney World in 2024. Today, it’s not as easy as it used to be to predict the crowds since, as it turns out, more and more people have started taking our advice. The same thing happened with the concept of rope drop; pretty much everyone knows to rope drop the parks, so that tip isn’t as effective as it once was. But either way, we’re here to help! We compiled a list of dates that have had historically low crowd levels (relative to the busier times of the year, anyway). Let’s take a look! Late January to Early February In the past, we’ve noticed that Disney World can get pretty crowded around New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, and early January in general. People like to take advantage of their days off for the holidays, so they plan a little trip to Disney World. Unfortunately, this means the parks can get VERY busy in early January. Magic Kingdom on New Year’s Eve (2022) Instead, we recommend visiting the parks around the weeks of January 20th- January 26th or January 27th-February 2nd. The further away from the holiday season you can get, the better! Wait until school is back in session if you’re hoping to avoid the crowds. Late February to Early March We’re expecting much of early 2024 to be a slower time of year in Disney World. If you’re looking at an early 2024 winter trip, we recommend late February to early March. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Consider planning a trip somewhere between February 17th and February 23rd or February 24th and March 1st. We can’t promise the parks will have 5-minute wait times at every attraction, but historically, we’ve noticed lower wait times and smaller crowds around this time. Late April to Early May Whatever you do, do NOT visit the Disney parks around Spring Break. Between school trips, sports events, and family vacations, it’s one of the busiest times of year in Disney World. Spring Break crowds OK, now that we covered the DON’Ts, let’s talk about what to do instead. We recommend the week of April 27th- May 3rd if you’re looking for a springtime trip to Disney World with lower crowds and shorter waits. Again, we can’t guarantee you won’t see any crowds because this is Disney World, but you may have better luck in late April and early May. Late August This one just makes good sense. Families don’t like to go on vacation just as their kids are going back to school, so late August is a great time to avoid the crowds in Disney World. Not everyone is prepared to be absent on the first day of school, after all! The back-to-school season is a great time to hit the parks! Consider a trip around August 17th- August 23rd or August 21st- August 27th in 2024. But make sure to AVOID Labor Day. The crowds pick up during the short holiday break, so be prepared! Mid to Late September Finally, we rounded up a few mid/late September dates you might want to think about if you’re planning a Disney vacation in 2024. This time of year is great because you get the Halloween decorations without the Halloween CROWDS! Halloween in Magic Kingdom Basically, we’re predicting lower crowds in the parks within the following dates: September 14th- September 20th September 21st- September 27th September 28th- October 4th We have a TON of helpful trip-planning information here at DFB, so stick around for all the tips and tricks you need to have the BEST vacation! The holiday season is guaranteed to bring us some of our favorite Disney treats of the year. Holiday season at Disneyland If you find yourself at Disneyland in Anaheim during the holiday season, you are certainly in for a good time. With some great treats available and festive park changes everywhere you look, joy and good food can be found around every corner. Speaking of good food, we recently found some NEW SEASONAL ITEMS on Main Street, U.S.A. that we HAVE to tell you about! Over at Refreshment Corner on Main Street, U.S.A., you can usually find quick-service American cuisine like hot dogs and mac & cheese. However, right now, Refreshment Corner is offering TWO limited-time seasonal items — the Cinnamon Roll Pretzel and the Chile Verde Firefly Chips. But were they any good? Read ahead to find out! Seasonal offerings at Refreshment Corner Let’s start with the Chile Verde Firefly Chips! Made up of spicy corn chips and topped with chile verde pork, cheese, and pickled chiles, this snack promises a bit of a kick. Chile Verde Firefly Chips The snack comes in a small brown bag, which immediately complicates things. The chips — which taste and look exactly like Flamin’ Hot Fritos — are all at the bottom of the bag, so you’ll need a fork to mix it all up, and you’ll have to do so delicately to avoid spillage. The pork has a lot of good flavor As for how the snack tastes, overall, it’s pretty good! There’s a lot of flavor happening, and most of it works. The majority of the spice is at the bottom of the bag with the chips, but if you mix it up, you should be able to spread out the spices. The spice itself is moderate. People who LOVE spicy food may feel it’s not enough, while people who regularly avoid spicy food will probably think it’s way too hot. The pork is the real standout of this snack. The chile verde seasoning is very tasty and lingers after each bite, prompting you to take another. The cheese blend also adds a welcomed layer that not only adds good flavor but also helps to curb the heat. We do recommend you eat this fast, though, as all the components make for a soggy snack. You can find this on Main Street, U.S.A. during the holiday season People who like Fritos (both Flamin’ Hot and regular), pork, chile verde, and spicy foods should give this snack a try. We liked it, but you may absolutely love it. Those who avoid anything spicy like it’s the plague, are looking for more bang for your buck, a more sophisticated snack, something easier to eat, or don’t like pork should probably pass on this one. The Chile Verde Firefly Chips can currently be found at the Refreshment Corner for $7.49 for a limited time. Disneyland Refreshment Corner The next seasonal item we tried was the Cinnamon Roll Pretel. This cream cheese pretzel is topped with cinnamon roll filling and drizzled with cream cheese frosting. Out of the two treats, this was definitely our favorite. Cinnamon Roll Pretzel There was nothing we disliked about this pretzel — it was FLAWLESS! This snack was akin to a cream cheese pretzel amped up to 11. First and foremost, it is a really good cream cheese pretzel. Ours was thick — not because it was stale but because it was hardy and filling. The pretzel goes beyond a light afternoon snack and is definitely underpriced for how full we were after eating it. The pretzel is DEFINITELY filling Although the pretzel doesn’t ooze cream cheese, the cream cheese frosting definitely makes up for that. The cinnamon topping is applied liberally and (with the frosting) really creates a lovely blend of sweet and savory that makes this a perfect treat any time of day. The best way to sum up this snack is to compare it to one of the best churros you’ve ever had dipped in cream cheese frosting. It is absolutely delicious and a must-try the next time you’re at Disneyland! The Cinnamon Roll Pretzel gets two thumbs up from us! The Cinnamon Roll Pretzel is available at Refreshment Corner for $7.59 for a limited time. Disney World’s 50th Anniversary ended in early 2023, but there are still a few leftover details that have stuck around since then. Mickey statue at Magic Kingdom For starters, although the big “50” icon on the castle was removed, the 50th Anniversary “EARidescent” colors stuck around. Also, the gold statues of all our favorite Disney characters have remained in all four park. But, we recently noticed that they got a mini makeover. Back in September, we noticed that the 50th Anniversary logos on the statues were finally removed. So now the statues are just part of the parks, minus the 50th signage. The 50th logo is gone However, a few statues have received a different kind of makeover. Instead of having those 50th Anniversary logos removed, the artwork was replaced with something else. These are so cute! Here’s the Abu statue in Adventureland in Magic Kingdom — the medallion he holds now has a globe symbol. Is this some sort of secret message from Disney? More than likely, it’s just an icon to represent the whole discovery and adventure theme of Adventureland. But hey — it’s interesting! Abu’s new symbol Now, this one is interesting. The Stitch statue on the wall in Tomorrowland has a symbol on it that we didn’t recognize. After a little digging around, we believe this is Tantalog, the native language of the alien planet where Stitch was created. Here’s the thing, though: the only symbol we could translate is the last one, which is a “5.” So that blows our theory out of the water that these symbols mean “626.” So, WHAT DOES IT MEAN? What are you holding there, Stitch? Whatever the case, we’re on the lookout for more symbols on these statues throughout the parks, so don’t you worry — DFB is ON THE CASE. The Disney Wonder was one of the first official Disney Cruise Line ships to set sail. Disney Wonder Atrium The Wonder, like its sister ship the Disney Magic, set a lot of trends, broke a ton of cruising barriers and stereotypes, and is still one of the most magical cruises to have ever sailed the seas! We’re taking a look at how many passengers can be onboard the Disney Wonder cruise ship. The Wonder is Disney’s first Cruise Line ship, which set sail on its maiden voyage on August 15th, 1999. It is 984 ft long (the same height if you laid the Eiffel Tower on its side!). It is 171.5 ft tall (almost as tall as the Leaning Tower of Pisa!) Donald and Captain Mickey The Wonder holds 875 staterooms in 10 different categories for up to 2,713 passengers. The ship is also managed by 950 Cast Members on crew. So, all told, there can be up to 3,663 souls onboard the Disney Wonder for each sailing. McDonald’s is keeping us on our toes by dropping all sorts of exciting news! ©Business Insider Not only are changes coming to the iconic Big Mac, but the snack wrap might be coming back, AND we’ve got a new adult Happy Meal on the way. McDonald’s has also recently opened a new concept — CosMc’s — and now we know more about just where these spin-off restaurants will be located! McDonald’s has opened its very first CosMc’s location in Bolingbrook, Illinois! The new concept is named after a 1980s-era McDonaldland character, and for now, it’s a limited test run that will only result in 10 pilot locations. But, the Chicago suburb of Bolingbrook isn’t the only city planned for this expansion. ©McDonald’s According to NBC5, others are planned for Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio. Specific locations have yet to be revealed, but we do know that the new restaurants will be expected to open sometime in 2024. ©Business Insider Once they do, though, you can expect adventurous drinks, including plenty of coffee drinks and other caffeinated beverages, along with lots of different breakfast items. Disney CEO Bob Iger has been making several changes at the company in the past year. ©Disney Iger took back his role as CEO toward the end of 2022 and has since restructured the company, readjusted the priorities, and even made some theme park changes. We’ve been waiting to see what changes Iger might make in the future, and based on problems at the box office in 2023, it looks like the film studios might be a target. Recently, Iger made comments about how movies aren’t performing because creators are focusing more on “messages” than “entertaining” — but is that really the problem? Disney hasn’t exactly had a great year at the box office in 2023. There were no billion-dollar films this year, and several movies performed lower than expected, especially when coming from a media giant like Disney. In a recent town hall meeting, Iger shared that since his return he has been busy “fixing” things around the company — so what needs to be fixed to make Disney’s movies perform well? AMC Theater According to Alex Sherman with CNBC, at the New York Times Dealbook Conference on November 29th, Iger shared more about the potential company agenda. He stated that the creators at Disney had “lost sight” of what their jobs should be — that it should be to “entertain first” and not be about “messages.” He said the messages that were being pushed got worse when he left as CEO. He’s said previously that he’s ready to share more original stories to entertain not “pushing an agenda.” AMC Theaters Is it really true that Disney’s film “messages” are hurting the company at the box office? Well, ScreenRant reports that the 2023 box office may prove this statement incorrect. Barbie and Oppenheimer were two of the year’s most popular movies, and both movies had strong social and political messages. ©WB Hi, Barbie! If “messages” aren’t the problem, then what is? ScreenRant names a few possibilities. First, it’s possible that Disney is relying too much on sequels and live-action remakes, instead of new, original franchises. This year alone saw a live-action The Little Mermaid and another Indiana Jones film with Harrison Ford. The problem may also extend to things like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where there are just SO many movies and series that it’s hard for casual fans or new fans to keep up. ©Lucasfilm No matter what’s happening, Disney will likely need to make some adjustments if it hopes to perform better at the box office in 2024. We have been keeping a close watch on the new Zootopia land coming to Shanghai Disney soon. ©Disney Zootopia opens for all guests on December 20th at Shanghai Disney Resort. We’re so excited to be fully immersed in this new animal-themed area. Disney recently shared a sneak peek at what we can expect when we visit. Now we have an even closer look behind the scenes. Disney announced that when we step foot into this new land, we will be fully immersed in it. The city, completely modeled after the community in the film, will come alive with amazing buildings and designs from the Imagineering and Art teams. You’ll be able to visit places like Zootopia Transit Authority, the plaza, and Lemming Brothers Bank. ©Disney We also know that Disney is bringing a trackless ride system to the new Zootopia: Hot Pursuit ride. You’ll find yourself sliding across the ice and flying onto the busy streets of Sahara Square. Then you’ll go “plummeting from the canopies in a gondola in the Rainforest District.” You’ll be racing through the city, taking turns, spins, slides, and drops while the story is brought to life. ©Disney Now, Disney has given us a new behind-the-scenes video that tells us that we can expect to see characters from the film in windows in the city. The goal is to “transport you into the world of Zootopia.” Characters will be seen leaning out of their windows and interacting with each other. Jeff Conover, Creative Director, says you will “come across characters from the film living their daily life.” He continues by saying, “This is a huge production, and it runs all day long.” ©Disney It looks like a very immersive part of the land. We LOVE seeing some of our favorite celebs at Disney World! Cinderella Castle And while we love seeing them hard at work in the parks, narrating the candlelight processional, filming holiday specials, or in concert, we especially love catching them having a little FUN. We love seeing celebrities on vacation with their family and having a classic vacation experience at Disney World. We mean no work, ALL play. Recently, we got to see just that, and it was SO heartwarming. Tennis star Serena Williams and her family visited Disney World recently, and we couldn’t be happier that they got to have a holiday vacation at the most magical place on earth! They even took the time to create one of the most fun TikToks we’ve ever seen! Plus, the clip gives us some insight into her ideal day at Disney World! ©Disney Let’s set the scene: Serena Williams is on the Mad Tea Party teacups ride, going as fast as she possibly can, all while answering questions speed-round style. We know — it is iconic. However, what may be MORE noteworthy is her answers to some very important questions. ©Disney When asked if she would rather stay the night in the Haunted Mansion or the Cinderella Castle Suite, she answered with the castle suite (us, too). We can’t argue with that logic — it would be UNREAL to be able to look out of your window early in the morning and be looking out onto Main Street, U.S.A. ©Disney Next, she was asked if she would rather be at the park for rope drop or be the last one out after the fireworks. She answered fireworks…but we’re wondering why it can’t be both? ©Disney Then she was asked a very important question: who would she rather team up with in a tennis match… Gaston or Ursula? She, of course, answered Gaston, while also giving her own rendition of his song from Beauty and the Beast… like we said, iconic. ©Disney Then came some hard-hitting questions. We weren’t prepared, so we’re preparing you. She was then asked if she preferred Teacups or Dumbo, and she said teacups. Okay, we can live with that (but we do LOVE Dumbo). ©Disney The grand finale was asking what land she preferred: Tomorrowland or Fantasyland? She answered Fantasyland, and we have to agree with that one. You can’t beat the magic that comes with being in Fantasyland. We love being able to see our favorite celebrities at Disney World having a magical time and taking part in the fun. It truly is a magical moment and we hope Serena and her family got to enjoy their trip! Do you subscribe to the Disney+ basic plan — you know, the one that includes ads? ©Disney So many of us have that plan because it’s the cheapest, and, hey, we don’t mind watching a few ads if it saves us money. However, there is a lot of potential for change within the world of streaming ads, and Disney is now toying around with some new ideas that could change how you see ads on Disney+. Right now, if you see ads on Disney+, you should see a standard commercial like you might see on network TV. Granted, some ads will let you choose what kind of experience you have, while others might even have a QR code you can scan with your phone. But what if that were to change and ads became even more interactive? Disney+ tree According to Variety, Disney is considering launching shopping and gaming experiences that could double as ads or that advertisers could get involved with. Rita Ferro, president of Disney Advertising Sales, said, “The world of advertising experiences on AVOD [Advertising-Based Video on Demand] is an important place to be involved in.” ©Disney So what does that mean? Well, that could mean that you might be able to shop directly within Disney+ via advertisements or even play a game that scores you a discount on a product — or involve an advertiser in some other way. The possibilities truly are endless for creating advertising that is more interactive. Plus, just think — if ads become more interactive, it’s likely they’ll stay with viewers a lot longer and result in more sales. It sounds like a win-win for Disney AND its advertisers (but not for our wallet). Disney+ Day Ferro also said that Disney would say more about “the next level of ad innovations” at a presentation at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on January 10th, so we’ll learn more about what the company has planned at that point. When it comes to great dining in Disney World, Disney Springs is THE place to go. Chicken Guy! Whether you’re looking for an upscale wine bar experience or want some delicious BBQ, there’s a little something for everyone. Sometimes, we find ourselves just wanting to hit up the fast-casual Chicken Guy! restaurant, mostly because we love that there’s a HUGE selection of sauces. Well, there used to be, anyway. So, one of our favorite things to get at Chicken Guy! is the Chicken Tenders with a VAST selection of sauces. Chicken Guy! previously offered 22 unique sauces to dip those tenders in. This was even one of the restaurant’s big selling points. However, something has changed. Here’s a look at the OLD list of signature sauces. ©Chicken Guy Thanks to DFB Reader Brittany, we’ve now learned that the Chicken Guy! sauce list has been SERIOUSLY downsized, and now you only get a choice of 10 sauces. So, 12 sauces (some of them our favorites) are gone. Poof. Vanished. Currently, the menu lists the Special Sauce, Donkey Sauce, Chipotle Ranch, Buffalo, Buttermilk Ranch, Honey Mustard, Garlic Parmesan, Sweet ‘N’ Sour, Bourbon Brown Sugar BBQ, and Nashville Hot Honey. There’s also a limited-time sauce, which is currently Korean BBQ. That’s it? So why did this happen? Well, we did ask several Cast Members, but there didn’t seem to be a definitive answer. We did learn this happened within the past week, so this is a new development. Is it supply issues? Were the other sauces just not popular enough? We need to know! But if you plan on visiting Chicken Guy! with hopes of getting a certain sauce, make sure it’s still available. We liked the huge variety of sauces We’ll certainly be keeping an eye on the situation and let you know if anything changes, so stay tuned to DFB for more. There has been a lot of talk of Bob Iger, CEO of the Walt Disney Company, in the news lately. ©Disney Iger recently commented on Disney’s “woke agenda,” causing some stir in the news. He also recently confirmed his 2026 exit from the company. But what really has started to make waves was his decision to pull advertising from X (formerly Twitter), and Elon Musk fired back. There has been a lot said, so we’re here to summarize what Musk has said about Iger. The conflict began with Musk endorsing a post with comments that were deemed anti-Semitic. As a result, Disney, along with Comcast/NBC Universal, Paramount Global, Warner Bros. Discovery, Apple, Lionsgate, and other companies pulled advertising from the site. ©Getty Images via The Hollywood Reporter According to The Hollywood Reporter, Elon Musk then commented on the mass exodus of advertisers, specifically addressing Iger. “Don’t advertise. If someone is going to try and blackmail me with advertising? Blackmail me with money? Go f**k yourself,” Musk said. “Go f**k yourself, is that clear? Hey Bob, if you’re in the audience. That’s how I feel, don’t advertise.” ©Getty Images via The Hollywood Reporter Now, Musk has said the Disney chief executive, Bob Iger, should be “fired immediately.” He also continued with, “Walt Disney is turning in his grave over what Bob has done to his company,” Musk said in a series of tweets. “He should be fired immediately.” Musk continued his attack on Iger and Disney, writing in another tweet, “Bob Eiger thinks it’s cool to advertise next to child exploitation material. Real stand-up guy.” Here, Musk was referring to a report by CNBC regarding a new lawsuit against Instagram and Facebook. ©Reuters | Disney CEO Bob Iger Musk has since tried to clarify the controversial tweet saying, “I mean, look, I’m sorry for that … post,” he said. “It was foolish of me. Let’s talk about what the REAL magic is. Magic Kingdom The REAL magic (other than the lovely Cast Members in the Disney Parks) comes from the Disney World App and website. (Well, when it’s WORKING but that’s a topic for another time.) Seriously, it really IS like your own personal Genie, and we feel that a lot of Disney fans don’t use their app or the website nearly enough. Everything you need to know is located online, from reservation information, to showtimes, to wait times. However, there’s also something EXTRA helpful located on the website and app that a lot of people look right past: WARNINGS. Yep, on the Disney World website, you’ll find lots of information and warnings pertaining to closures, construction, and more. Magic Kingdom For example, you can visit the webpage for your Disney World hotel and see if there are any closures or construction that might affect your stay. This includes pool and restaurant closures, too! The website will tell you if there is anything that could affect your stay The website will also provide information on road closures, like if they’re blocked off for a race! Disney Road Closure To find this information, simply search the name of your hotel on the app or website! On the main page, there will be a highlighted area that will show that there is some sort of announcement regarding the closure or construction. If roads are closed, the announcement will sometimes come up as a push notification on the app. ©Disney So, make sure to search your hotel on the Disney World website before your visit. This is the best way to check on important information before you actually arrive! Disney popcorn buckets are a category all their own, and people really seem to love them! Popcorn buckets! Whether you’re using them to refill on a super cheap snack on your Disney vacation or just looking for the next best design to add to your collection, it can be pretty fun (and addicting) to collect these buckets. As we’re getting ready to close the chapter of another year at Disney, we’re looking back at the BEST popcorn buckets that made their debut this year! Snagging a popcorn bucket at Disney World is almost a no-brainer if you eat popcorn more than once on vacation. Why pay full-price for popcorn more than once, right? Plus, those buckets are fun AND functional! Popcorn buckets 2023 saw TONS of new popcorn bucket designs, but there are a few that really made an impression on us. Here are the ones that made our FAVORITES list: Figment 2.0 Yes, Figment was BACK again this year for a 2nd release in plastic bucket form! Hello Figment Popcorn Bucket! The first time we were able to snag this little fella was to commemorate EPCOT’s 40th anniversary, but this year, we saw his same bucket RETURN, just with a different strap design. He also came with a bag of colorful sweet popcorn when you picked him up for EPCOT’s International Festival of the Arts. Here’s hoping he comes back in 2024! Mickey Skeleton Costume Halloween at Disney World gave us some EPIC popcorn buckets, and these designs didn’t disappoint! Mickey Skeleton Popcorn Bucket Mickey Mouse sporting a full skeleton costume seemed to be on everyone’s MUST-BUY list during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party this year, and honestly…we can’t blame them! He’s adorable! Nightmare Before Christmas Mayor Car The line for THIS popcorn bucket rivaled the Jack and Sally meet and greet times we saw during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party! The Nightmare Before Christmas Mayor’s Car Bucket The Mayor’s Car from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas set the Disney community ablaze when they saw it. It came with several notable characters at the front of the car and even featured lights on the inside of the hearse, along with a changing expression on the Mayor’s face as the car moved. Picnic Basket with Mickey’s Glove Nothing could stop you from having the perfect picnic in the park…especially if you grabbed this adorable picnic basket popcorn bucket. EPCOT Food & Wine Picnic Basket Popcorn Bucket This design was found in both Disneyland and Disney World in different variations (and Disney World even saw a 2nd release for EPCOT’s International Food & Wine Festival), and we couldn’t decide if the coolest part about it was the fun basket design, or using Mickey’s glove as the carrying handle. Disney 100th Anniversary Mickey Balloon Y’all… this one was just TOO beautiful to pass up! 100th Anniversary Mickey Balloon Popcorn Bucket Another popular popcorn bucket debuted at the start of the year in Disneyland and then made its way over to Disney World later in the year! Disney’s shiny purple and platinum popcorn bucket was shaped like an iconic Mickey Balloon and commemorated Disney’s 100 Years of Wonder celebration and made the perfect take-home souvenir to remember your vacation for such a huge celebration. Droid Parts in Galaxy’s Edge Fans come out in droves for this one! A droid parts popcorn bucket was FINALLY released in Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland AND Disney World. Droid Parts Popcorn Bucket The limited-release popcorn bucket featured an R-droid design that looks like it came straight out of Droid Depot and could be filled with regular butter popcorn around the parks or those more interesting flavors found in Batuu. These buckets sold out QUICK and weren’t around very long once they were restocked, so you really had to act fast to score one of these! Cinderella Coach Premium Bucket This one may have been THE popcorn bucket of the year! Cinderella Coach Premium Bucket Although we’ve seen a Cinderella coach popcorn bucket release in the past, the new design in celebration of the 100 Years of Wonder had everyone in a tizzy to get this bucket! The sleek and shiny design featured the pumpkin coach coated in a platinum finish with purple touches, and it truly was a sight to see. Pumbaa for DAK’s 25th Anniversary 2023 marked Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s 25th anniversary, so they knew they had to come out with a popcorn bucket that was no less than stellar. Luckily, what we got was probably the BEST we could have asked for! Pumbaa Popcorn Bucket Pumbaa from The Lion King joined his other popcorn bucket character friends on Earth Day, A.K.A. Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s birthday. His buddy, Simba, was a popular choice a few years back, so this was one not to miss if you were trying to collect a set (especially with the Timon Sipper release, too!). Mickey Disney Train The Disneyland Railroad FINALLY received a merchandise staple in the form of this functioning popcorn bucket design. Mickey Train Popcorn Bucket This popcorn bucket featured conductor Mickey, who rolls right along with moving train wheels when scooted across a solid surface. Oh, and this bucket even made sounds! All you had to do was take off the whistle and blow into it; pretty neat, huh? Toy Solider Mickey for MVMCP How could we round out the year without mentioning the new holiday popcorn bucket releases? Mickey, as a Toy Solider, managed to capture the attention of TONS of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party-goers, and he seemed to be THE party-exclsuive merchandise item to pick up during the event. Mickey! The toy soldiers are a truly memorable part of Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmastime Parade, so seeing Mickey dressed as one was too good of an opportunity to pass up. Holiday Tow Mater at DCA You may have just found your new best friend in the Holiday Tow Mater popcorn bucket release! Holiday Mater Popcorn Bucket Mater was all ready for the holiday season with his Santa hat and white snow scattered around the front of his hood (mouth?) for this design. Just look at that expression — he’s just too cute! WHEW! This was quite an exciting year for interesting popcorn buckets released by Disney! The new designs and creativity poured into these buckets just blew us away. There’s a lot you need to think about when planning a Disney World vacation. Disney’s Animal Kingdom However, the planning doesn’t end once you’ve arrived in Orlando and get checked into your hotel. You’ll also need to keep an eye on Disney World’s schedule because not all attractions and experiences are open until park close. We realized this today when we were looking at the schedule for a ride in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Take a look at the schedule for Kilimanjaro Safaris, the ride that takes you through the savannahs of Disney World to see a variety of animals up close and personal, including elephants, giraffes, alligators, lions (our fave!), and more. You might notice that this ride closes WAY before the park closes. The ride closes at 4:45 PM (park close is at 8PM). ©Disney We learned that Animal Kingdom’s current policy states that those animal experiences close before sunset. Now that sunset is earlier each day, that means that a lot of animal attractions at Animal Kingdom will be closing early. Pre-2020, you could ride Kilimanjaro Safaris at night (and it was always a WAY different experience from the safaris during the day since some animals are only active at night). Disney didn’t explain why this has changed, but we want to note that it has. Kilimanjaro Safaris This is one of the most popular rides in the park, so if you do want to ride it with a shorter wait (especially now that we’re in one of the busiest times of the year in Disney World), you might want to consider purchasing Genie+ to access the ride’s Lightning Lane, as well as other Lightning Lanes in the park. Zebras on Kilimanjaro Safaris It’s important to keep an eye on the Disney World schedule on the My Disney Experience app when you’re on your trip so you don’t get hit with any surprises if you want to ride something at a specific time (in this case, at night). It’s not uncommon to see hotels around the Orlando area be renovated to keep things fresh and new. ©Waldorf Astoria Lots of Disney World hotels are being renovated right now, some so much so that it’s a little difficult to walk around (we’re looking at you Grand Floridian). However, if you’re heading to Orlando soon and looking for somewhere off-property but close by to stay, this hotel has just gone under extensive renovations! The Waldorf Astoria Orlando hotel has now completed their resort-wide renovations. A brand new fireworks show has officially debuted in EPCOT as part of the park’s historic transformation. The new show We got to check out Luminous: The Symphony of Us for ourselves the night it premiered, and while we loved the impressive pyrotechnics and the symphonic soundtrack, not everyone seems to have the same opinion. We’ve heard folks saying they hate the new EPCOT fireworks show — and here’s why. ‘Twas a glorious day when Disney got rid of those eyesores known as the Harmonious barges, with fans (okay, us) rejoicing that World Showcase Lagoon was once again free of anything remarkably hideous in our line of sight. So, it was only logical that Luminous, EPCOT’s new fireworks show, would already have a leg up in that regard. But, it doesn’t seem as though folks are as thrilled with Luminous as we had originally thought. Lasers While the fireworks were impressive, folks can’t help but feel as though we were bamboozled by the replacement barges. Though smaller and screenless, the Luminous barges still played a major role in the show — spouting water when it’s called for. Water barges They’re absolutely gorgeous and help with the overall impact of the show, but some people are disappointed to find that they’re a pretty big aspect of the nighttime spectacular once again — just like the Harmonious barges were. Luckily, the Luminous ones can be removed from the lagoon, but it’s something people weren’t expecting. Luminous We were also originally told that no matter where you were standing along the World Showcase Lagoon, there wouldn’t really be a “bad” place from which to view the show. But, when we saw Luminous, we felt that to get the full experience, you really want a vantage point of everything — including the barges. Luminous: The Symphony of US But, perhaps the most ironic critique we heard was that people actually missed the visuals on the Harmonious barges. They displayed digital recreations of iconic Disney movie scenes and more that went along with the storyline — but this new show was missing that, and people certainly noticed. Toy Story section of Luminous: The Symphony of US Of course, there are also some positive opinions out there too! We overheard folks talking about just how incredible the musical score was for the show. There are two new songs — one at the beginning and the other at the end — with familiar Disney songs in between, all while telling the story of the human journey. If you haven’t seen Luminous: The Symphony of Us just yet, we encourage you to go check it out for yourself — you just might end up finding a new favorite EPCOT fireworks show!
