How well do you know your Disney trivia? Disney trivia at a Disney World hotel Sure, you might know a lot about everything that’s happened to the Disney company throughout the last 100 years. Maybe you’re an expert on Disney movies. But if you think you know Disney World trivia, well, you might be wrong. We recently asked YOU, our DFB readers, a question about a classic Disney World ride, and many of you got it wrong. First up, we’re just going to have to say that a LOT of people get this trivia question wrong. So it’s not just you. So the question is “What year did Pirates of the Caribbean open in Walt Disney World?” Now, overwhelmingly, a lot of people think that Pirates of the Caribbean was an opening day ride in Disney World, so many answer “1971.” Pirates of the Caribbean But that’s not right. Nope, Disney World didn’t have Pirates of the Caribbean on opening day. You might have seen details about that on a recent episode of the Disney+ series Behind the Attraction — at the time, Disney didn’t think that people would want a copycat ride from Disneyland in Disney World, especially since there’s a lot of REAL pirate history in Florida. But when folks flocked to Disney World, they were all wondering one thing: “Where are the pirates?” Oops. The results! So Disney eventually created Pirates of the Caribbean for Disney World, and it opened on December 15th, 1973. The more you know! Happy Holidays from Disney’s Animal Kingdom! Christmas at Animal Kingdom It’s officially December and we’re celebrating with all kinds of new treats around Disney World. From Present Peppermint Brownie Pops to the ‘Olu Mel Holiday Float, there are so many ways to satisfy your sweet tooth this month. Come with us to Creature Comforts to try the new mousse dome creation! The new Holiday Mousse Dome is a Chocolate cake brownie with a chocolate mousse dome, filled with cranberry orange. Today we picked it up for $7.99. Creature Comforts Holiday Mousse Dome in case We really enjoyed the mix of chocolate and tart flavors! It had a nice whipped creamy consistency; and while it was very mildly flavored, it paired well with the strong orange flavor. Holiday Mousse Dome cut in half closeup Also, the chocolate base added a ton of chocolate flavor too. It’s soft and a little chewy with a not overly-sweet, chocolate flavor. Holiday Mousse Dome closeup We also liked the sprinkles, because they added a fun, crunchy texture to an otherwise soft treat. Holiday Mousse Dome cut in half closeup We didn’t love the icing around the side as it tasted a bit cheap and wasn’t very creamy. Also, it didn’t hold up well in the heat. Holiday Mousse Dome closeup Aside from the icing on the side, we think this is worth checking out — especially if you love chocolate and tart and sweet combos. If chocolate isn’t your thing or you don’t love orange flavors in your desserts, you might want to skip this one. We’ll keep bringing you all the latest Disney news, so stay tuned to DFB for more! If you’re familiar with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), then you’re probably familiar with the ending of Avengers: Endgame. ©CinemaBlend | Marvel The final scenes sparked conversation among fans regarding the future of the MCU as we know it, as it showed the funeral of one of Marvel’s most beloved characters: Iron Man. Yep, Endgame left fans spiraling as they debated whether or not Marvel creators would find a way to bring back the hero. Of course they’ll bring back Iron Man, right? Well, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige set the record straight. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Iron Man as we know him (portrayed by Robert Downey Jr.) will not be among the characters in the MCU to return to the big screen. ©Marvel Feige said regarding Iron Man’s final scene, “We are going to keep that moment and not touch that moment again. We all worked very hard for many years to get to that, and we would never want to magically undo it in any way.” ©Blackstone Publishing This comes as a shock to many fans, as Marvel has a tendency to bring back characters in some way or another. It’s hard to imagine a world without Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, as the character has been part of the MCU for a total of 10 films. While Feige did seem to confirm that Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of the character was seen for the last time in 2019 in Endgame, he didn’t really shut the door on the possibility of another actor’s portrayal. Iron Man Feige didn’t provide any insight regarding other characters we might see in the future, but we’ll continue to keep you updated with more Disney and Marvel news as we have it. Disney World is constantly evolving. Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom This year was big for the theme park! We got a new thrill ride, a Moana-themed attraction, tons of EPCOT transformation updates, and more. But, 2024 is around the corner and even MORE things are coming. Let’s take a look at what Disney has promised for the upcoming year. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Earlier this year, Splash Mountain closed to make way for the new Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. New Concept Art The “new” attraction is going to be a retheme of the old one, centered on a story of Tiana hosting a Mardi Gras party for the people of New Orleans. Model of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at the D23 Expo We’ve seen a lot of progress being made over at the ride in the past few months, including a colorful new mural around the queue building! The Cake Bake Shop We got a ton of restaurant news this year, but one of the most exciting updates in the works is The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers coming to Disney’s BoardWalk. Concept art for The Cake Bake Shop This new restaurant was originally scheduled to open in late 2023, but it got pushed back to an early 2024 timeline back in September. Once it opens, this new spot will serve brunch, lunch, and dinner, as well as an afternoon tea service. You’ll also be able to pop in for a quick treat to-go at their bakery case. Read our EXCLUSIVE interview with Gwendolyn Rogers here! Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs Speaking of Disney’s BoardWalk, a Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs is also in the works! ©Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs is already a beloved spot in Disneyland, but soon visitors will be able to try these hand-dipped corn dogs on the East Coast. Like Cake Bake Shop, this stand was originally slated to open in 2023, but it was delayed until next year. Here’s hoping we’ll see it early in the new year! Disney Dining Plan After the park closures of 2020, Disney World made a lot of changes to its policies and offerings. One thing that went away was the Disney Dining Plan. Are you excited about DDP coming back? Guests have been missing this option for YEARS, and Disney finally shared they will be bringing it back in 2024. Starting on January 9th, 2024, visitors will be able to enjoy the Disney Dining Plan once again. Click here to read of Disney Dining Plan FAQ page! Park Pass Reservations Another thing that changed after the parks reopened in 2020 was that Park Pass Reservations were required to visit. EPCOT However, starting on January 9th, 2024, visitors with date-based tickets will no longer need to make a Park Pass Reservation. While Cast Members and Annual Passholders will still typically need to make them, there will be new “Good to Go” days where they can enter without a reservation. Park Hopping Update Disney also recently announced that beginning on January 9th, 2024, all-day park hopping is finally returning! Four parks, one day — are you up to the challenge? Currently, park hopping is limited to after 2PM each day, but next year, anyone who has a park ticket with park-hopping capabilities can park hop at any time of day. Genie+ Changes Thinking about taking advantage of Genie+ in 2024? While Disney hasn’t shared many details about it yet, they have stated that a plan is in the works to simplify the service. Genie+ The company has listened to guests who wanted to “plan with Disney Genie+ service and individual Lightning Lane selections before the day of their park visit,” and is working on ways to make that happen in 2024. Polynesian Village Resort DVC Building Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is also currently going through some changes. Disney is in the process of building some new Disney Vacation Club Villas at the resort and they are slated to open sometime in 2024. ©Disney | Polynesian Village Resort concept art This new building is expected to bring new dining, swimming, and recreation options, and the new rooms will feature waterfront views and balconies. Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground On top of finishing the DVC building at the Polynesian, Disney is also planning on redesigning the cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. Fort Wilderness The proposal calls for more than 350 refreshed cabins to replace the existing ones at the campground. The concept for these new structures shows modern cabins “inspired by the resort’s idyllic setting, while also paying homage to the resort’s unique culture and heritage through the magic of Disney storytelling.” Fort Wilderness Cabin Concept Art ©Disney While the cabins are officially part of the DVC lineup, they will be open to reservations for all guests. Star Tours Lastly, Disney will be updating a classic attraction in 2024 — Star Tours in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Star Tours The new version of the ride will feature scenes from Ahsoka, an original series on Disney+. These new scenes are set to debut in the Spring of 2024! Star Tours 2024 is going to be a big year for Disney World! EPCOT has been undergoing a lengthy transformation for what feels like FOREVER. Construction Walls Yep, it’s been years since we’ve seen the park in all her wall-less glory. Walls have protected the behind-the-scenes construction of an enhanced World Celebration as well as the addition of Communicore Hall and Plaza — where future festivals will take place. BUT we learned in November that the EPCOT transformation will be COMPLETE in December, and among the first to open will be the World Celebration Gardens and Walt Disney Statue — set to open to the public on December 5th — in honor of Walt’s birthday. Well, we were fortunate enough to take a lil’ peek at the statue and gardens via a media event, and we just had to share some IMPORTANT info regarding these gardens! Okay, first of all, the World Celebration Gardens are absolutely beautiful. We totally foresee them being EPCOT’s Central Park — a spot for us to relax and unwind away from the hustle and bustle of the main park areas and World Showcase. However, what makes this an even MORE ideal spot to unwind is the addition of… Hello, beautiful! OUTLETS! Haaaaaallelujah! Yep, you can charge your devices while chilling out and just takin’ in all the views of the new area. Outlets! All you have to do is open the lil’ door and BOOM. Your electricity awaits. There are two spots for a regular wall charger, and then four USB ports. Electricity! Woo! The addition of outlets is so convenient, especially since EPCOT is a park where you’ll probably be on your device a lot to try to score Virtual Queues or Lightning Lanes for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. Outlets will be so convenient Oh, and did we mention how much SEATING there is? Yeah, you can find us here after December 5th. It’s such a beautiful area! We’ll continue to keep you updated with more Disney news, so make sure to follow along for more. We won’t let you miss a single detail! Looking for MORE things coming to EPCOT? Click here! What an incredible morning! We got the chance to go behind the walls in EPCOT to watch the dedication of the NEW World Celebration Gardens and Walt the Dreamer Statue! Walt the Dreamer Unveiling A little background for ya: you know how for the past, like, four years you haven’t been able to see the center of EPCOT because construction walls were up everywhere? Well, we are finally coming to the END of a long, hard road my friends, and EPCOT is starting to open back up! EPCOT has undergone LOTS of changes! Over the years, we’ve gotten to try out Connections Eatery and the Creations Shop, rode (and gotten sick…and then rode again) Cosmic Rewind, and journeyed through water with Moana. But, today, a brand new part of EPCOT was dedicated and we’ve got all the details. They were clear that there will not be a soft open, so tomorrow, December 5th, is the big day. And today was the only official opening ceremony, so everyone should be able to walk right into the gardens tomorrow (because the WALLS ARE COMING DOWN). It’s going to be a great place to sit, relax, and take in the world of EPCOT around you. Stay tuned to DFB as we learn more about these new areas of EPCOT. It’s no secret that we love Disney food. It’s right there IN OUR NAME. Maybe that makes us a little biased, but we think Disney food can be some of the best in the world (and no, we won’t be taking any questions). Keg and Compass on Disney Wish We could also point out that Disney World has a wine bar run by a Master Sommelier (and that is a HUGE distinction). Oh, and two Disney World restaurants have been recognized by Michelin Guide — you can’t scoff at that. But when it comes to Disney Cruise Line, APPARENTLY, we could be a little wrong about the food (no, we’re not). Food & Wine Magazine recently held its Global Tastemakers Awards, which asks its readers to celebrate the “best culinary destinations in the U.S. and abroad.” Readers voted based on trips they’d taken in three years, and one of the categories was “Best Cruises for Food.” And no, Disney Cruise Line did NOT come in first place. Beignets at The Bayou on the Disney Wish So how did Disney Cruise Line compare to other cruise lines? Well, here’s how the voting went and how each Cruise Line was ranked: Viking Regent Seven Seas Cruises Oceania Cruises AmaWaterways Princess Cruises Norwegian Cruise Line Disney Cruise Line Holland America Line Celebrity Cruises Royal Caribbean International Fritto di Calamari e Gamberi at Palo on the Disney Wish Disney came in…7th? Yes, we’re surprised. We’ve had some pretty amazing meals aboard Disney Cruise Line, which also included some unique dining experiences themed around Frozen and Marvel. We’re also big fans of Palo, one of the signature fine dining experiences aboard several Disney Cruise ships. And Enchante is absolutely incredible! So we’re not sure how Disney landed in 7th place, but we know where it lies in our heart (#1, just like Donald Duck). Stay tuned to DFB for more! We’re sailing on the Disney Dream this week for a Very Merrytime Cruise on Disney Cruise Line. Vanellope’s Sweets and Treats We’ve already given you a tour of Disney Cruise Line’s new port which we sailed out of, shown you photos from a brand new holiday show (with SNOAP!), and even shared Mickey and Minnie’s new holiday looks for the occasion! Well, now, we’re about to do what we do best — EAT. We’re heading to Vanellope’s Sweets and Treats Shop to try out some very merry new snacks. We’ve got a word of warning to share with you, though: these treats are VERY sweet, so please don’t tell our dentist. But once you see them, you’ll want to book a Very Merrytime Cruise ASAP — and honestly, we wouldn’t blame you. Vanellope’s Sweets and Treats is all about, well, sweets and treats. Just look at this, y’all. Um…ONE OF EVERYTHING! YUM Okay, so maybe one of everything isn’t doable (at least right now, but we’ll be back), so we’re focusing on the holiday-themed treats. The Mickey Christmas Shortbread Cookies with Frosting and Dulce de Leche Filling for $5.50 are SO adorable…but also BIG, so this is a great value. It’s actually a cookie sandwich, so you’ve got frosting and dulce de leche in the middle. Yep, we’re sold. Look at how cute it is The cookies are thick and crumbly, like all good shortbread, and they tasted buttery and sweet. We’ll just say they’re perfect, which is hard to find in a shortbread. The sweet frosting was whipped and fluffy, which worked great with the firmer cookies. However, we didn’t notice a lot of the Dulce de Leche filling in it and we would’ve liked more. If you’re a frosted sugar cookie fan, you need this in your life. This one is for you frosted sugar cookie fans The Merry Time Popsicle for $5.50 is basically a Red Velvet Chocolate Fudge Cakepop. Okay, YES, please! Inside is a regular chocolate/red velvet cake pop that’s soft and smooth. It isn’t super dense, but still VERY rich. The outside chocolate is super sweet, so that made it hard to eat it all in one sitting. Overall, it’s a pretty heavy dessert and you might want to share. It’s so festive The Mickey ornament on it (is that not the CUTEST?) is a surprisingly soft and tasty milk chocolate — we kinda’ wanted more of these on there. The snowflake, though, was fondant, and well, that’s not our FAVORITE thing to eat, but it looks good, right? That Mickey ornament, though. Okay, the most OVER-THE-TOP thing we got was this Kris Kringle Christmas Tree for $6.50 — there’s a LOT going on there. The tree is sitting on a brownie, by the way. However, the tree itself is really just a regular Rice Krispie treat (and no, we’re not complaining — it was soft and FULL of marshmallow flavor). The decorations are fondant and hard sugar candy, along with sprinkles. There’s a lot going on here The bottom is a brownie covered in a red layer of fondant that was really hard and just sugary (again, we’re not fondant fans). The brownie was cakey, and we know some people like their brownies that way. But we prefer fudgey brownies, so this seemed dry (not like SUPER dry, but dry like a cake and not moist like fudge — yes, this is us being picky). Not our favorite Are you hungry yet? We go to Disney World every day, and yeah, we ride some pretty thrilling rides. TRON Lightcycle / Run NOOOOO…we’re not talking about “it’s a small world,” although some of y’all might call it a scary ride. But we’ve taken multiple rides on Tower of Terror, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and TRON Lightcycle / Run. But, there’s an experience going on in New York City right now that we might just say “no,” to. Then again, it does kinda’ look like fun. And HISTORICAL. First, though, we have to give you a little background. Way back in 1932, The New York Herald-Tribune published a photo of 11 ironworkers sitting on a steel beam 850 feet above the ground on top of what is now 30 Rockefeller Plaza. They were just sitting there enjoying lunch. Here’s the photo. You’ve totally seen it before, right? ©Charles Clyde Ebbets – Washington Post/Wiki Commons Well, there’s a new attraction in New York City, The Beam, that allows people to recreate that experience. It puts them on a beam that is slowly raised. ©ABC Once the beam raises to its full height, which is the same as it was in that old photo (again, 850 feet above the ground!!!), it rotates so the photo is recreated. Oddly enough, we don’t see anyone bringing their lunch along for the ride like in the original photo, though. ©ABC Ultimately, they’re in the exact spot that the original beam was in. Although this is potentially TOO thrilling, you can’t deny that view! (Plus, there is a platform down there, at least.) ©ABC Then the beam rotates again and they pose for a photo to mark their death-defying stunt. A popular Disneyland hotel is in the middle of an upgrade! Pixar Place Hotel What has been known as the Paradise Pier Hotel is slowly becoming the Pixar Place Hotel! It’s a re-imagining of the hotel with all our favorite Pixar characters and charm. Now, Disney has released an inside peek at what’s in store. As a little amuse bouche to the main event…Disney released an Instagram post with the Toy Story soldiers taking us through a quick tour of one of the newly re-themed rooms. But WAIT!!!! Wanna see even more of these rooms?! Here we go! Disney also recently shared a YouTube video of a full tour of the room and areas of the hotel. You can watch it below! We’re loving the colors and themes here, and all of our favorite characters can be seen throughout the room! Pixar Place Hotel Room Do you see Luxo on the desk?! Peep Luxo Lamp on the desk! So we GET it — Disneyland food is definitely something to get excited about. Disneyland Christmas tree Who doesn’t love those corn dogs (even the ones with pickles in them), ALL those churro flavors, and Mickey beignets? CLASSICS. But there’s one Disneyland treat that may be more popular than all of those combined — we’re talking LONG lines to pick these things up EVERY year. Yep, the Disneyland Candy Canes are back! Okay, so you may be wondering “What’s so special about a candy cane? I can pick up a package of candy canes at Dollar Tree for $1.25?” Well, here’s the thing. First, these candy canes are HUGE — like bigger than your head. But also, these candy canes are made BY HAND at Candy Palace in Disneyland and Trolley Treats in Disney California Adventure. Candy Palace Finally, these special treats are only available once a year and there’s a STRICT schedule on when and how you can get one. (It’s all about supply and demand, y’all!) You’ll also need to join a mobile waitlist, which doesn’t even guarantee that you’ll get one. Yep, they’re that popular. By the way, here’s this year’s schedule: Candy Palace: December 3rd, 5th, 10th, 12th, 17th, 19th, and 24th Trolley Treats: December 4th, 6th, 11th, 13th, 18th, 20th, and 25th Now it feels like Christmas We headed over today to Candy Palace to see if the odds were in our favor of getting a Candy Cane this year. When we arrived, there was already a line — but this line was just for signing up for the Mobile Waitlist. There’s a line We peeked in the window to see Cast Members preparing the candy canes for the day. The candy canes! For the record, this line stretched from Candy Palace to Jolly Holiday Bakery. This is SERIOUS BUSINESS! It’s a long line We finally got to sign up for the waitlist — then we got this text message. So now we…well…wait. It works like this: you get a text when it’s time for you to pick up a candy cane. As you can see, even if you get on the waitlist, you are not guaranteed to get one. Text message About an hour later, we finally got a message to return to Candy Palace to purchase our treat! YAY! We made it! You have 30 minutes to return. Note that you can only buy one candy cane at a time. We did it! So we returned to Candy Palace and finally picked up our candy cane for $19.99. SUCCESS! Like we said, these babies are HUGE. We got one! We will warn you that if you’re not careful, you can drop and break them (because yep, we did that last year), so handle them with care! We were much more careful this year! We have found what might be the most UNHINGED Disney souvenir we’ve ever seen. Magic Kingdom can surprise you In all our time in the Disney World parks, we’ve found some strange souvenirs. There have been creepy alien keychains, weird dinosaur lightsabers, gross sticky dinosaur toys, and (who could forget) spaghetti Stitch. But this new holiday (yes, it’s supposed to be FESTIVE) souvenir had us a little creeped out and, yet, kind of giddy??? We were wandering through Magic Kingdom in November when we spotted, no, heard, a new holiday souvenir. It is a festive Mickey and Minnie necklace. But it’s not JUST a necklace. This Christmas necklace sings carols and it’s so creepy-awesome! It has light-up ornaments and Mickey and Minnie sing. How amazing does that sound?! Who wouldn’t want an animated glow Christmas necklace?! But you need to see and hear this necklace to fully understand it. It’s one of those holiday souvenirs that is so unhinged you have to have it (and of course, we bought it). It would be perfect to wear to the next Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party (and everyone will certainly know you’re there, but don’t let them steal it ’cause it’s YOUR LITTLE PIECE OF PERFECTION). Watch out for Santa’s helpers– Mickey and Minnie– next time you’re in Magic Kingdom. And keep following DFB for more Disney news! It’s hard to believe, but the EPCOT Transformation is almost finally complete! Spaceship Earth We’ve gotten to know Connections Eatery and the Creations Shop, rocked out on Cosmic Rewind, and journeyed through water with Moana. But, even more elements of the EPCOT Transformation will soon be open and we’ve got all the details. Mark your calendars, Disney fans! The Walt the Dreamer statue, Dreamers Point, and World Celebration Gardens are officially set to open to guests in EPCOT on December 5th! ©Disney Four gardens will be found in the center of World Celebration, including Dreamers Point (where the statue will sit), and will connect together at a central planter that is based on the EPCOT logo. The area will evolve with the seasons and include lighting elements that will “take on a whole new life” at night. It’s there! Not only that, but EPCOT Forever is going to be replaced by a brand-NEW nighttime spectacular: Luminous — The Symphony of Us. The new production celebrates Disney’s 100th anniversary and kicks off next week, on December 5th, 2023. It’ll feature fireworks, fountains, lasers, lighting effects, and plenty of music. ©Disney Luminous will feature two original songs, as well as new arrangements of classic Disney songs. The show begins with voices from around the World Showcase welcoming you to the gathering, followed by the original song “Heartbeat Symphony.” ©Disney Make sure you’re at EPCOT on December 5th if you want to be among the first to see some of these changes!
