Elon Musk’s quest to defeat Disney doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. Cinderella Castle After Disney pulled advertising from X (formerly Twitter), Musk had quite a few choice words to say about CEO Bob Iger. We also recently learned that the SpaceX owner was funding a lawsuit against Disney brought forth by former Star Wars actress Gina Carano, and now, it looks like Musk has taken to X once again. This time, to post about Disney’s Inclusion Standards. Elon Musk has taken to X to accuse the Walt Disney Company of “mandatory, institutionalized racism and sexism” in a new post. In addition to his statement, he also shared an image of what he claims are Disney’s Inclusion Standards — essentially, the Company’s efforts to make sure their employees both on and off the screen come from diverse backgrounds and demographics. The image appears to be similar to the Inclusion Standards set forth by ABC (which is owned by Disney) back in 2020. ©Disney Not only that, but Musk posted, “If you were discriminated against by Disney or its subsidiaries (ABC, ESPN, Marvel, etc), just reply to this post to receive legal support[.]” This is likely about the fact that Musk is currently bankrolling a lawsuit brought forth by Gina Carano. Carano, the MMA fighter turned actress, has filed a complaint in California federal court against Disney and Lucasfilm. The lawsuit alleges that she was fired for sharing her Republican opinions on social media. via The Hollywood Reporter, Jesse Grant/Getty Images She is looking to win the case which would require Lucasfilm to recast her and pay at least $75,000 and punitive damages. Carano was fired in 2021 after she shared a post that implied that “being a Republican is like being Jewish during the Holocaust.” She had often posted on social media, primarily X, about sensitive topics about her right-wing opinions. The complaint states, “Defendants (Disney and Lucasfilm) went so far as to try and convince Carano’s publicist to force Carano to issue a statement admitting to mocking or insulting an entire group of people, which Carano had never done.” According to the case, Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy, told Carano to meet with her and 45 employees who identified as LGBTQ+, to which Carano refused and was then fired shortly after. ©Disney The suit, which claims wrongful discharge and sex discrimination, is being funded by Elon Musk via X. Elon Musk had recently pledged that X would fund legal action for anyone who claims they faced discrimination for their activity on the social media platform. Musk stated that the offer to fund lawsuits came with “no limit” to cost and that he would “go after the boards of directors of the companies, too.” ©Disney | Walt Disney Company Headquarters We’ll continue to bring you the latest updates about this new lawsuit and more news from The Walt Disney Company, so stay tuned to DFB. “Walt Disney Is Turning in His Grave,” and Other Controversial Things Elon Musk Has Said About Bob Iger Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! We can’t wait for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure to open in Magic Kingdom! She’s so pretty! The new addition will be making its debut sometime in 2024 and we’ve been keeping an eye on the latest updates and every bit of news we can get from Disney. But, as we spend more time in the park around the construction site, we can’t help but think that some people seem to be a bit confused. This got us thinking, could Disney’s innocent mistake lead to major Magic Kingdom disappointment? We’re pretty darn excited about Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opening later this year in Magic Kingdom. Because of that, we’ve been spending a lot of time in the park trying to catch glimpses of the latest updates and construction changes. But, that also means we happen to overhear quite a bit of people making a serious mistake. You see, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is a new ride that is taking the place of the former Splash Mountain. It is NOT a new restaurant as some people seem to believe. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure It’s happened to multiple DFB reporters on more than one occasion. We think the “Tiana’s Foods” signs plastered across the construction walls likely have something to do with it. Once, we saw some folks looking at the posters and saying things like, “They must be putting the dining room up there,” and, “There’s going to be a restaurant on the ground level.” Some of the scaffolding on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is now covered What makes things even more confusing is that Disney actually did open a Tiana-themed restaurant in 2023 — but over in Disneyland. Tiana’s Palace replaced The French Market Restaurant in New Orleans Square and serves up Creole and Cajun classics. But, as of now, Disney hasn’t made any sort of announcements about a Tiana’s Palace Restaurant coming to the East Coast. Trust us, we’re just as hopeful as you are, though! Tiana’s Palace We don’t claim to see the future here at DFB, but if folks are excited about a new restaurant at Disney World that doesn’t actually end up coming to Disney World, well, we can see how that would lead to some serious disappointment. Of course, Disney could still surprise us and announce that a similar restaurant concept could come to Magic Kingdom, but for now, we’ll have to cross our fingers and keep hoping. ©Disney In the meantime, though, we’re still extremely stoked about Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. The story will pick up The Princess and the Frog “after the final kiss, and join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure – featuring some of the powerful music from the film – as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.” ©Disney Tiana’s Bayou Adventure concept art Stay tuned to DFB as we bring you more news about Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and the latest changes coming to Disney World! In the middle of January, we noticed a popular shop in Disney Springs had closed its doors to customers. Basin store closed for refurb Several shops have been closing in the Disney Springs district in recent months while others have replaced them. The shopping and dining area of Disney World is a popular place to hang out and visit on days when you don’t have a park ticket or if you’re simply looking to have fun outside of the parks. Now, we have some good news to share with you about the beloved beauty store, Basin! Basin, a store that sells beauty and spa supplies, had closed temporarily in both Disney Springs and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort. We were told it would be several weeks before either of them re-opened as they received updates. While it was closed in Disney Springs, a temporary pop-up location was added next to The Art of Disney. Basin pop-up location in Disney Springs The Grand Floridian shop opened back up later in January and we were hopeful that the Disney Springs one would be soon to follow. Well, when we headed over to the Springs the other day, we noticed that it has, in fact, reopened! Basin has re-opened! When we stopped by on February 6th the shop was back open for business after receiving some updates over the last month or so. You can stop into the store to find all your favorite bath, spa, and beauty supplies! Basin If you’re looking for a bath bomb for your relaxing bath time, there’s lots to choose from at Basin! It was announced in early 2023 that streaming would be a major priority for The Walt Disney Company. ©Disney CEO Bob Iger even referred to it as his main priority, and at the final earnings call for 2023, he shared a component of that streaming goal. He wanted to turn ESPN+ into the preeminent sports platform, and vocalized interest in a potential partnership with an outside company to make this happen. Now, Iger’s big plans for ESPN are coming to fruition. Let’s talk about it! Disney announced on February 6th, 2024 that ESPN would soon merge with Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery to make a joint streaming platform for sports assets. The streaming bundle is currently unnamed, and will be available to those with ESPN+, Hulu, and Max subscribers. Each company will own one-third of the product. ESPN feature at CES 2024 This is super exciting for sports fans, as the streaming bundle will allow them to have all of their favorite sports available to view on one platform — with one subscription. Plus, Iger is still searching for strategic business partners for ESPN+, which could potentially include the NFL, NBA, and NHL. What a lot of fans are still wondering, though, is WHEN this product will be available. ©ESPN Well, in the next few weeks, we can expect the companies to elect a Chief Executive of the service. After that, we’ll probably get a few more details from them. Disney said that the streaming service should then be available by fall 2024 via a new app. ©Disney Currently, no price has been announced for the service, but we’re hoping to hear more details at the quarterly earnings call that will take place on February 7th, 2024. Here, Disney shares all sorts of great information pertaining to the Company’s finances as well as exciting new project updates. It’s entirely possible that we’ll learn more about it then. Oh, the times they are a-changin’! Change is inevitable — be it at the Disney Parks or the non-theme park world. Sometimes those changes are a product of trends and one major trend has us contemplating the future of a major fast-food chain. McDonald’s We make it a point to follow the trends, especially at the Disney Parks. For example, last month we noticed Ozempic’s (a Type 2 diabetes medication now also used for weight management) rise in popularity and considered its possible effects on Disney World’s profits. This got us thinking — how might the Ozempic trend affect a mega fast-food chain’s profits, such as McDonald’s? GLP-1, also known as Ozempic, has erupted onto the medical scene as a medication that can provide tremendous weight loss benefits. Originally designed to treat Type 2 diabetics who are at serious health risks without medication, this drug has also been prescribed to treat obesity. Ozempic was originally approved by the FDA to treat people with Type 2 diabetes- who risk serious health consequences without medication. In recent months, there has been a spike in demand for Ozempic, or semaglutide, due to its weight loss benefits, which has led to shortages. Some doctors prescribe Ozempic off-label to treat obesity. (Photo illustration by Mario Tama/Getty Images) Ozempic provides regulation of insulin and gastric emptying and can make users feel fuller for a longer period of time. With that in perspective, it’s totally possible that the food industry can be affected by this drug’s rise in popularity. In fact, market research firm Skift reported that “Ozempic prescriptions rose 300% between 2020 and 2022, and the market is projected to reach $100 billion in value by 2030.” As data rolls in that PROVES people who use weight loss medication are cutting back on fast food, it’s fair to wonder if McDonald’s could suffer when it comes to profits. McDonald’s It’s worth noting that McDonald’s’ latest earnings call featured the company boasting significant growth. McDonald’s reported chicken sales increasing, four new restaurants opening EVERY DAY in 2023, and 1,000 new restaurants opening in China this year. So far, the Ozempic trend hasn’t hampered McDonald’s’ growth. That said, as the trend continues, McDonald’s could ultimately be affected. Let’s take a look at why the fast food giant’s profits could be hurt by the Ozempic trend and also why the company could be perfectly fine. Reasons Why McDonald’s Could Lose Profits Ba Da Ba Ba Bah… For starters, if the Ozempic trend affects the fast food industry, it will certainly affect the king of fast food. People who take Ozempic still need to eat, so the food industry as a whole will never truly be in danger. However, meals and snacking may come more infrequently. A study by The New York Times suggests that some doctors worry about malnutrition in extreme cases as a side effect and that’s something to monitor as the trend continues. The purpose of the drug is to quell appetite, and whether or not Ozempic has a major effect on the food industry, that’s not something food vendors want to hear. With more than 90% of McDonald’s restaurants being operated as independent franchises, the company has been built upon the principle of expansion and a lack of demand would completely alter the McDonald’s business plan. Big Mac Ozempic not only curbs appetite, but it also has a reputation for stopping addiction. McDonald’s and other fast food chains that serve sugary drinks and food have built up brand loyalty and a lot of that consumer-restaurant relationship could be undone due to Ozempic’s ability to throw a wrench in daily habits. Of course, McDonald’s would hardly be the only brand affected by a potential change in consumer mentality, but when talking about the company’s future profits and stocks, this is definitely something to consider. According to 24/7 Wall St. and Earnest Analytics, 10% of consumers account for 46% of Jack in the Box’s sales, 10% account for 43% of Chick-fil-A’s sales, and 10% account for 39% of Shake Shack’s sales. McDonald’s just like every other fast-food chain, banks on customer loyalty. 24/7 Wall St. wrote, “Morgan Stanley ran surveys of Americans taking anti-obesity drugs and found that 77% of them had cut back on fast food restaurants. With people taking anti-obesity drugs generally cutting their calorie intake by 20-30%, things like sugar drinks and items deemed less healthy (like fast food) are generally the first items cut.” Beach Club Resort Gym Assuming the Ozempic trend is just a small piece of the larger fitness trend, fast-food restaurants, in general, should be worried. Ever since 2004’s Super Size Me, McDonald’s and fitness go hand-in-hand like water and oil. To McDonald’s credit, the restaurant chain has made significant efforts to improve its menu and take health into consideration, but that doesn’t negate the fact that there are healthier options in the same space. Reasons Why McDonald’s Could Be Fine McDonald’s Despite the market paying close attention to McDonald’s stocks during the rise of Ozempic, there are some indications that McDonald’s could thrive during the Ozempic trend. Investors got a scare last fall when McDonald’s share price decreased by 13% on the New York Stock Exchange between September and October, but the company has slowly recovered despite worries about weight loss drug influences. In fact, InvestorPlace reported that McDonald’s plans to open 10,000 new locations and add 100 million new members to its loyalty rewards program by 2027. It also reported a 58% increase in McDonald’s stock from 2018 through December 2023. Apple Slices As we mentioned previously, McDonald’s has adjusted its menu before during times of controversy and heightened health efforts. In 2015, the company introduced healthier options, removed high-fructose corn syrup from the hamburger buns, and removed artificial preservatives from Chicken McNuggets. Starting in 2018, McDonald’s no longer serves artificial preservatives, flavors, and colorings from seven of its burgers aside from the pickles, which can be removed. McDonald’s took further strides in 2020 with the McPlant, a plant-based burger. With Beyond Meat alternatives becoming incredibly popular (at least stateside), McDonald’s will likely continue to venture down this path regarding its menu options. If Ozempic really does prompt a change in the fast food industry, McDonald’s has already proven it can adapt to become healthier. ©Disney Ozempic stalls appetite but it does not remove the need to eat. Because of this, fast-food chains will always be in business, and the leader in fast food will likely always be McDonald’s. Mickey D’s is still the world leader in fast food and is consistently the most reliable option for food no matter where you go. As of January 16th, 2024, there are 13,530 McDonalds restaurants in the United States alone, per ScrapeHero. If fast food does take a hit, other chains may suffer more than McDonald’s in the long run. McDonald’s Finally, we’ve already seen McDonald’s adjust to possible profit loss. Just last year, McDonald’s started rolling out artificial intelligence hospitality options in lieu of a human workforce in addition to raising prices. If you live in California or plan on visiting Disneyland in Anaheim, you should also expect higher McDonald’s prices. As home to the most McDonald’s restaurants in America (and the first), California can be used to take the temperature of what the future might hold for the company. Per Yahoo!, McDonald’s used California’s latest wage-increase law to raise its menu prices. According to Yahoo! and McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski, the company believes the wage and menu price increases are a good thing for McDonald’s long-term, so this is something we could see expand across all of its locations. Hamburglar and Ronald McDonald At the moment, where the Ozempic trend goes is all purely speculative, both with us and the financial experts — but that doesn’t make it any less interesting to follow. A brand new sports streaming service is coming to your phone and other devices soon! ©ESPN A huge announcement came from the Walt Disney Company on February 6th indicating that we’ll soon get to watch the majority of sports entertainment from one streaming app! This will make life much simpler when trying to catch the latest games. Instead of needing multiple subscriptions and cable TV, you’ll soon be able to simply tune in to one app for most of your favorite games. While we know this is coming, there’s a big question mark still hanging in our minds — how much is this new streaming app going to cost us? Disney announced that ESPN, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) are teaming up to form a joint sports streaming service that we’ll be able to use via a new app. It will contain a bundle of sports networks and show over 50% of sports content. You’ll be able to watch professional league and college-level sports right from the app. ©Disney Disney CEO, Bob Iger, stated, “The launch of this new streaming sports service is a significant moment for Disney and ESPN, a major win for sports fans, and an important step forward for the media business. This means the full suite of ESPN channels will be available to consumers alongside the sports programming of other industry leaders as part of a differentiated sports-centric service.” With the service, you’ll be able to catch NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and other games! It will be a large sports bundle that begins cutting the cable TV service and offers more direct-to-consumer options. ©D23 At this point, we know that a Chief Executive should be announced in the coming weeks, with the service available sometime this coming fall. But unfortunately, we still don’t know how much this service will cost. The bundle of sports should be less than the cost of a cable TV bundle as the goal is “aiming to provide a new and differentiated experience to serve sports fans, particularly those outside of the traditional pay TV bundle.” ©Warner Bros. There will also be an option to bundle the new service with Disney+, Hulu, and/or Max. Since the three latter services plus ESPN+ are currently offered in a bundle for $14.99/month with ads or $24.99/month without them, we can probably expect the new bundle to be similar in price or potentially a little more given that it will offer more content than the current ESPN+. Separately, ESPN+ is $10.99/month or $109.99/year, so this new streaming service may be in this same ballpark or slightly higher. ©Disney More pricing information is yet to be announced by Disney, Fox, and WBD. When it becomes available, you’ll have access to multiple sports networks including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SECN, ACCN, ESPNEWS, ABC, FOX, FS1, FS2, BTN, TNT, TBS, truTV, as well as ESPN+. ©ESPN Fox Executive Chair and Chief Executive Officer, Lachlan Murdoch, stated, “We’re pumped to bring the FOX Sports portfolio to this new and exciting platform. We believe the service will provide passionate fans outside of the traditional bundle an array of amazing sports content all in one place.” We are looking forward to this new platform, as well! More information may be shared during the upcoming quarterly earnings call for Disney. We’ll be tuned in to learn any new information, so keep following DFB for all your Disney news! We won’t lie to you — some Disney rides are kinda scary. Disney California Adventure Dinosaur is LOUD and terrifying for those who hate loud noises. The Tower of Terror is the worst possible ride for those who are scared of heights. If you’re prone to motion sickness, don’t even look at Mission: SPACE. Some Disneyland guests say the Pixar Pal-A-Round is the most terrifying Disney ride and easily the scariest Ferris Wheel they’ve ever been on, but we’ve now found something even SCARIER! Seoul, South Korea announced plans to create a massive new Ferris wheel called the Seoul Twin Eye. It’s being created by UNStudio in collaboration with Arup and local firm Heerim Architecture. So, what’s so special about this ride? Well, it’s set to be the first of its kind — a spokeless Ferris wheel with two intersecting rings. ©UNStudio HUH?! Yep, it’s the new vision proposal for the Peace Park Wheel, which is a project initiated by the Seoul Metropolitan Government for Sangam World Cup Park in Seoul. The structure is set to be 180 meters tall and can accommodate 64 capsules — each with 20-25 people in each one (that’s 1,400 people at a time)! It will be built on a “40-metre-high new cultural complex that is expected to house an exhibition space, a performance hall, retail and food & beverage outlets.” ©UNStudio According to Ben van Berkel, founder and principal architect of UNStudio, “this spokeless design references Korea’s boundless ambition for innovation and spirit of progress, seamlessly blending cutting-edge technology with a timeless appreciation for stability and beauty.” We’ll admit, it looks amazing, but will you catch us on this new ride? Probably not. We’ll stick to the Pixar Pal-A-Round for now! Swinging Gondolas We can’t wait to see how it looks when it’s done. We go to Disney World every single day of the year. That gives us around 365 days to forget something, lose something, or wish we had something with us while visiting the parks. Magic Kingdom We’ve learned a thing or two about what to have in our park bag. What you decide to bring with you can make your day better or, unfortunately, worse. We’ve made the mistake of forgetting items we needed or not bringing something with us that would have been nice to have. So let us make the mistakes for you, and take our word for it when we say these next 12 items will save your day in the parks. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. You might second guess these items, but if you remember to slip them in your bag before heading to the parks, you’ll thank us later! Don’t overlook the small stuff. Band-Aids You never know when you or your kids will trip and scuff a knee! It’s good to be prepared. ©Amazon Disney does offer some first aid services, which is great, but it’s usually at Guest Relations all the way to the front of the park. For small scrapes and cuts, having some small Band-Aids with you can be a great idea! VIEW ON AMAZON Portable Mini Fan In the middle of the summer, we do everything we can to keep our cool (literally and figuratively)! ©Amazon The heat of the summer in Florida is no joke, so take it from us, using a portable mini fan like this can be a game changer. So many lines are outside without air conditioning, so keep this little fan tucked away in your bag for any time you need it. VIEW ON AMAZON Cooling Towels While the mini fan is great, its effects can be doubled if you also have a cool towel hanging around your neck! ©Amazon Soak one of these towels in some cold water and wear it around your neck to feel refreshed. We wouldn’t make it through a day in the summer heat if it wasn’t for having these with us! VIEW ON AMAZON Reusable Zipping Bags There are SO many great reasons for bringing a reusable bag with you to the parks. ©Amazon When you’re not using your cooling towel, but it’s already damp, just slip it into your waterproof reusable bag to keep everything else in your park bag dry. These can also be great for keeping little snacks with you so you don’t have to pay for a snack every time your stomach growls! VIEW ON AMAZON Spray Deodorant If you’re prone to sweating or want to keep your whole body feeling fresh, give a spray deodorant a try! ©Amazon This Native spray deodorant is for your whole body (“pits, privates, & more”), so you can stay in the hot sun all day and not feel like a sweaty mess. Trust us, this will make your day a little less miserable if you don’t like being sweaty! VIEW ON AMAZON Travel Flossers Eating is a huge part of our Disney World trips. We go there for the rides, but stay for the food! ©Amazon When you’re eating meat, sushi, pineapples, or anything else, you can end up with stringy bits stuck in your teeth. Nobody wants to be the person who smiles at a Cast Member with a chunk of their lunch still hanging out in their teeth. These flossing picks are perfect since they come in a convenient carrying case! VIEW ON AMAZON Blotting Sheets The humidity in Florida is relentless. It doesn’t matter what time of year, there is always a high moisture content. ©Amazon This can cause a lot of excess moisture, oil, and sweat to accumulate on your face. Don’t mess up the makeup that you took so much time doing with paper towels or toilet paper; use some convenient blotting tissues instead! VIEW ON AMAZON SPF Setting Powder Setting powder can also help with the excess oil and moisture on your face! ©Amazon This setting powder will help absorb any excess moisture and oil while also providing a barrier against the sun with its SPF content. It can help keep you refreshed and looking good! VIEW ON AMAZON Mini Dry Shampoo We’ve mentioned the high humidity and heat a few times already, and we’ll continue preaching — you’ve gotta be ready for it! ©Amazon A small travel-sized dry shampoo is never a bad idea! By the middle of the afternoon, you’re hair may need a pick-me-up! Dry shampoo can help bring some life back into your hair (and take away some of the frizz!). VIEW ON AMAZON Megababe Anti-Chafe Stick You’ll thank us for this one, especially. ©Amazon Rescue your thighs with an anti-chafe stick! You’ll keep moving and the friction will be way less. Don’t let chaffing slow you down on your Disney trip. VIEW ON AMAZON Fuel Rod Disney keeps you on your phone all the time in the parks, now. ©Amazon It’s pretty likely that by the end of the day, you’ll need a power-up. Bringing a fuel rod into the parks is a must! These are small enough to fit into your bag and shouldn’t cause issues at security (unless you have several)! VIEW ON AMAZON Slip Shorts If you like to wear dresses or skirts, getting in and out of rides can be tricky. ©Amazon But if you throw these shorts on underneath, you’ll be safe from chafing and any ride mishaps! We swear by them on our skirt-wearing days. VIEW ON AMAZON We hope these items and tips help you on your Disney World vacation! In the meantime, keep following DFB for more Disney news! It’s February in Disney World, and that means new snacks are coming at us from all angles! Valentine’s Float Disney is celebrating Black History Month with its Celebrate Soulfully event, and the event is bringing all kinds of new treats to the parks! Plus, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! Of course, we’re trying all the latest snacks in Disney World, and we have to admit, we weren’t sure what to expect from this new treat, but it surprised us! Over at the Contemporary Resort, you can stop by Contempo Café and grab the Sweet Heart Cookie. This is a sugar cookie with heart sprinkles topped with cream cheese buttercream icing, red velvet cake pieces and heart, and a drizzle of dark chocolate for $4.78. Look how pretty it is! If we’re judging based on looks, this is already off to a good state. In terms of texture, this is a crunchy cookie, so if you’re a fan of softer cookies, it may not be your thing, especially with all those hard sprinkles on top. Sweet Heart Cookie However, the middle is quite soft, so this is really the definition of “crunchy on the edges, soft in the middle.” The cookie itself isn’t too sweet, even with all the sprinkles, and the cream cheese frosting is decadent! It reminds us of the classic Betty Crocker frosting you can get at the store, which we love. We love that red velvet! The red velvet cake and crumbles are soft and moist, adding a nice element to the cookie overall. We didn’t notice the flavor of the chocolate drizzle at all, but we assume it’s more for aesthetic reasons rather than taste. Overall, this is a fantastic treat that those with a sweet tooth will love. SO good! Looking for more recent reviews? Check out our posts below! More Recent Reviews! The Walt Disney Company is fighting several battles right now — and it’s preparing for one of its biggest yet. ©Disney Nelson Peltz and others have pleaded their cases for seats on Disney’s Board of Directors, and it’s all coming to a head at the Annual Meeting of Shareholders taking place in April. Disney has urged shareholders to vote for its 12 nominees instead of outside candidates and the Company has enlisted an unlikely character to help in those efforts! Disney has launched a new website to urge shareholders to vote for their 12 nominees for the Company’s Board of Directors, and they’re using a familiar face to break it all down. The website, VoteDisney.com, includes information about the current Board and upcoming nominees, when the shareholders’ meeting is taking place, and who shareholders should vote for. ©Disney And, Professor Ludwig Von Drake has been enlisted to help them out! The video states, “Remember it’s important you vote only for Disney’s 12 nominees using the white proxy card. Do not vote for the Trian group or Blackwell’s nominees. Voting this year is critical no matter how many or how few shares you may own … Please vote all of your shares on all of your accounts.” The 2024 Walt Disney Company Annual Meeting of Shareholders is taking place on April 3rd. That’s when shareholders of the Walt Disney Company will vote on Nelson Peltz’s (and others’) attempt to gain a seat on the Board of Directors. ©Disney In the video, a white proxy card is shown with Disney’s nominees selected and Trian’s and Blackwells nominees marked with red “X’s.” We had previously shared that Trian nominated Peltz and former Disney CFO James Rasulo to the Walt Disney Company board back in December. Trian released a statement reading, in part, that the group “Believes the Disney Board’s lack of focus, alignment, and accountability has resulted in chronic underperformance at one of the world’s most iconic companies.” ©Disney But, Disney has specified that “the Board does NOT endorse the nominations of Nelson Peltz and James Rasulo put forth by Trian Fund Management, L.P. and its affiliates, led by Nelson Peltz and supported by former Disney executive Isaac Perlmutter (collectively, the “Trian Group”).” The notice went on to say, “The Board recommends that shareholders do not vote for the Trian Group nominees, and that they reject a related proposal from the Trian Group to amend the Company Bylaws.” Disney also made it clear that the Board “does not endorse the nominations of Craig Hatkoff, Jessica Schell and Leah Solivan put forth for election as directors by Blackwells Onshore I LLC, Blackwells Capital LLC and Jason Aintabi (collectively, the “Blackwells Group”).” ©Disney Shareholders are encouraged to submit electronic votes no later than 11:59PM ET on April 2nd, 2024. If you’re a shareholder who is voting by mail, make sure you sign and put your envelope back in the mail by the date specified on the form. You can see the list of 12 nominees that the Disney Board of Directors recommends for election at the 2024 Annual Meeting of Shareholders below: Mary T. Barra — Chair and Chief Executive Officer of General Motors Co. Safra A. Catz — Chief Executive Officer of Oracle Corp. and its former President Amy L. Chang — former senior executive at Cisco Systems, Inc. and Google and a current director of Procter & Gamble Co. D. Jeremy Darroch — former Executive Chairman and Group Chief Executive Officer of Sky Carolyn N. Everson — former senior executive at Instacart, Meta Platforms, Inc. and Microsoft Corp. and a current director of The Coca-Cola Co. and Under Armour Inc. Michael B.G. Froman — President of the Council on Foreign Relations and former Vice Chairman and President, Strategic Growth at Mastercard Inc. James P. Gorman — Executive Chairman and former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Morgan Stanley Robert A. Iger — Disney’s Chief Executive Officer, formerly also served as Chairman Maria Elena Lagomasino — Chief Executive Officer and Managing Partner of WE Family Offices and a former senior executive at JP Morgan Private Bank and Chase Manhattan Bank and a current director of The Coca-Cola Co. Calvin R. McDonald — Chief Executive Officer of lululemon athletica inc. Mark G. Parker — serves as Chairman of the Disney Board, is Executive Chairman of NIKE, Inc. and its former Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Derica W. Rice. — former senior executive at CVS Health Corp. and Eli Lilly and Co. and a current director of The Carlyle Group Inc., Bristol-Myers Squibb Co., and Target Corp. ©Disney In addition to the shareholders meeting happening on April 3rd, we also expect to hear quite a bit of updates from the company during the first quarter earnings call of 2024. That call is taking place on February 7th at 4:30PM EST, so make sure you keep an eye out for the latest news from that! Disney vacations are already expensive as is, and we’re here to help you save as much money as you can. Welcome to Magic Kingdom! We’ve got tons of tips and tricks to help you save a few dollars here and there both before your vacation and during it, but there are some things you may be doing in the parks that are REALLY racking up those costs, and you may not even realize it! Here are 7 things you have no idea are making your vacation just that much more expensive. Tax On Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes in Disney World Genie+ is Disney’s skip the line service that can be used in Disney World and Disneyland. But there’s a big (yet small) difference between the two that you NEED to know about. If you’re vacationing in Disney World and using these services, you’ll be paying tax on every Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane purchase you make. Genie+ Now, you are paying tax in Disneyland too, but it’s included in the price you’re seeing upfront, whereas Disney World’s is only added on when you go to check out. This may only seem like a few cents or a dollar here and there, but if you’re buying for your WHOLE family EVERY day? Yeah, that racks up pretty fast. There’s really no way to get around this one other than being prepared for it and budgeting for it ahead of time. Learn all there is to know about Genie+ here! Purchasing Drinks At Every Meal You need to eat in the park, that’s very important, as is staying hydrated and drinking. You may not realize it, but purchasing drinks with every single one of your Disney meals is a LOT of money you don’t necessarily need to be spending. Self-service Beverage Station At quick service restaurants, you can just order the entree and side individually, that way you don’t need to add on a drink with a combo. At table service restaurants, you may want to double check what drinks are included with the meal and what isn’t, that way you’re not charged anything extra you weren’t expecting. If you’re staying at a Disney World hotel, just make sure your refillable mug is filled up for the meal, or you can just carry a soda/water bottle around with you in the parks to drink out of throughout the day. Staying Off Property WITHOUT Your Own Car We mention all the time how staying at hotels or Airbnbs off Disney property can save you tons of money, and that’s very true! However, if that means you’ll need to be taking a rideshare to and from the parks each day, that may be spending the money you were saving by not staying on property. Rideshare sign By staying on Disney World property, you have free transportation to and from the parks and your hotel all day via the Skyliner, Monorail, Buses and more. That being said, if you’ve driven to Disney World and you have your own car (or you’ve rented one), you won’t be using too much gas going to and from the parks and where you’re staying, so that may still be cheaper — even when you pay for parking at the parks every day. If you’re really wanting to save, just crunch the numbers before you decide where to stay! Not Splitting Entrees/Getting Kids Meals If you’re someone who doesn’t eat a ton at meals, or you’re more a snacker, splitting entrees or getting kids meals at quick service locations around Disney is a game changer. Kids Meal from Restaurantosaurus Once again, it may only seem like a few dollars here and there, but dining costs add up QUICK and you’ll be shocked at how much you’ve saved at the end of your vacation. Embarrassed about ordering off the kids’ menu? Mobile order your food and no one will know who the meal is for! Besides, we think it’s totally worth it in order to save big on your meals. Now, keep in mind you can only do these things when dining at quick service locations — you are not allowed to split entrees or eat off the kids menu as an adult at table service dining. These are the best kids menus in Disney World! Forgetting to Use Discounts If you have discounts, whether that’s because you’re an Annual Passholder, Disney Vacation Club Member, or you have reward points from your credit card(s), USE THEM wherever you can at Disney! Disney Vacation Club Sign There are tons of special perks Annual Passholders and DVC members get, and discounts on dining, merchandise, and more throughout the parks is one of them. While 10-20% may not seem like a lot when you’re looking at a large cost item, we’ll say it again: every penny counts! Keep any of these discounts in mind wherever you go — if you’re not sure if a location will let you use it, just ask a Cast Member kindly and they’ll let you know if that location accepts them. Check out all the dining discounts for Annual Passholders here! Not Using a FREE Travel Agent To Get The Best Deals Many people are under the misconception that it costs something to use a travel agent, but that’s not true! Travel agents are completely free to use, since they’re paid through the vacation destinations they can help you book, and they can help you get some pretty amazing deals on your vacations. We personally love using Small World Vacations to book our Disney World, Disneyland, and Disney Cruise Line vacations, and we don’t pay a dime. They’re very knowledgable on what discounts you may be qualified for, and may be able to advise you on when the best time to book would be, since they can crunch all those numbers for you. Not Using The DFB Guide Now listen, this isn’t just a shameless plug, but we spend hundreds of hours every year writing and updating these guides because we’ve heard time and time again how much they help people save on their vacations and have the best trip possible! For a while now, we’ve been waiting for Disney to make a big business move. ESPN Wide World of Sports Disney’s had some problems with streaming over the past few years, but particularly with ESPN+. The service hasn’t been as successful as it could be, even though there’s a high demand for sports entertainment. But now, Disney finally seems to have the solution — and it involves some other major players. According to the Wall Street Journal, Disney and ESPN are teaming up with Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery to make a joint streaming platform for sports assets. ©ESPN This service will be available to ESPN+, Hulu, and Max subscribers, and each company will own one-third of the product. The yet-unnamed service is essentially a sports streaming bundle, according to one person familiar with the matter. Disney+ Hulu bundle Despite this project, ESPN is still looking for a strategic business partner. Last year, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that he was looking for a partner for ESPN, and was willing to sell an equity stake. ESPN is gearing itself up for a streaming future, hoping to make its flagship channel available as direct-to-consumer in the next 2-3 years. ©Disney In a similar vein, activist investor Nelson Peltz has been vying for a spot on the board at The Walt Disney Company. A new lawsuit has been filed against Disney, this time involving a cast member from the popular show, The Mandalorian. ©The Walt Disney Company Not long after a judge ruled to throw out the federal case Disney had filed against Ron Desantis, a new suit has been filed against the entertainment company. An actress, known for her character Cara Dune on the Disney+ Star Wars series, is suing Disney for discrimination and wrongful termination, and she is being backed by Elon Musk. Gina Carano, the MMA fighter turned actress, has filed a complaint in California federal court against Disney and Lucasfilm, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The lawsuit alleges that she was fired for sharing her Republican opinions on social media. Cara Dune ©Disney She is looking to win the case which would require Lucasfilm to recast her and pay at least $75,000 and punitive damages. Carano was fired in 2021 after she shared a post that implied that “being a Republican is like being Jewish during the Holocaust.” She had often posted on social media, primarily X, about sensitive topics about her right-wing opinions. via The Hollywood Reporter, Jesse Grant/Getty Images Carano claims that Disney and Lucasfilm “harassed and defamed” her for not conforming to their viewpoints on several political topics such as Black Lives Matter, preferred pronouns, and election interference. She also claims that male costars, who had made offensive posts against Republicans, were not punished or fired. The complaint states, “Defendants (Disney and Lucasfilm) went so far as to try and convince Carano’s publicist to force Carano to issue a statement admitting to mocking or insulting an entire group of people, which Carano had never done.” According to the case and The Hollywood Reporter, Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy, told Carano to meet with her and 45 employees who identified as LGBTQ+, to which Carano refused and was then fired shortly after. ©Lucasfilm The suit, which claims wrongful discharge and sex discrimination, is being funded by Elon Musk via X. Elon Musk had recently pledged that X would fund legal action for anyone who claims they faced discrimination for their activity on the social media platform. Musk stated that the offer to fund lawsuits came with “no limit” to cost and that he would “go after the boards of directors of the companies, too.” ©Getty Images via The Hollywood Reporter We’ll be on the lookout for more developments in this most recent Disney lawsuit. One thing we have circled is a possible deep dive into the Disney+/Hulu bundle that began its beta in began its beta December. The bundle officially goes live in March and we could hear more about that in conjunction with Disney+’s 2024 profits projection. ©Disney Regarding the parks, we are hoping to hear more updates on possible expansion plans as well as any attraction updates, such as a Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opening timeline.
