  1. Disney World is changing all the time and that likely isn’t stopping anytime soon. Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom They’ve teased potential expansion plans for NEW themed areas “Beyond Big Thunder Mountain” in Magic Kingdom and discussed a DinoLand U.S.A. re-theme in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. And, while these may just be ideas for now, we’ve got a few signs that other changes could be happening a bit sooner. We’re taking another look at recently filed permits for Disney World to get an idea of what sort of work may be going on around the property — here’s what we found this time around. Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground is undergoing quite a transformation — Disney announced that the Cabins at Fort Wilderness would be getting a makeover. Imagineers are redesigning these spaces to become the Disney Vacation Club Cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort. ©Disney Quite a few permits were recently filed for electrical work throughout the campgrounds and cabin area at Fort Wilderness. We spotted a permit for the Meadow Pool bathrooms and another set of bathrooms, but we’ll keep an eye out for even more news from this resort. The One Thing That’ll SHOCK You About the New Cabins at Disney World’s Fort Wilderness Resort Four Seasons Orlando Anyone up for some pickleball in the near future? Soon enough, you’ll be able to play at the Four Seasons on Disney World property! Four Seasons We found a new permit that indicates the Four Seasons will be replacing one of their tennis courts into four separate pickleball courts. Of course, you’ll need to book a stay at the Four Seasons to take advantage of these, but there are other Disney World hotels you can play pickleball at too — check out the list below: Disney’s Yacht Club Resort Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village Disney’s Old Key West Resort ©Disney Stay tuned to DFB for the latest looks at changes coming to Disney World and more! 4. You heard right, Disney is teaming up with the creators of ‘Fortnite’ to bring us something we’ve never seen from the company before! ©Disney In Disney’s Q1 Earnings Call for 2024, Bob Iger mentioned several new concepts and ideas in store for The Walt Disney Company. One of those that was quick to grab our interest was the idea of Disney collaborating with Epic Games. According to an article by The OC Register, When Bob Iger was talking about the brainstormed project, he referenced a conversation with Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney and Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro where they discussed ways to integrate Disney intellectual property into Fortnite games. ©Disney | Walt Disney Company Headquarters Eventually the question, “What if we create a gigantic Disney World à la Fortnite that could live next to Fortnite and be completely interconnected with it?” was posed. “A world where people can play games that we create and could create their own games,” Iger shared. Their announcement from the earnings call seemed to hint at an almost metaverse world where entertainment, shopping, and even gameplay would be possible. ©Disney Based on the initial rendering of concept art shared by Disney we could expect to see the budding Fortnite partnership look like an online theme park with multiple Disney castles, a central hub surrounded by several islands populated with visual nods to familiar Disney IPs and franchises including MARVEL, Pixar, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Fox along with several others. ©Disney/Epic Games Additionally, this would mark an incredible milestone for The Walt Disney Company heading full speed ahead into the gaming atmosphere. “Our new relationship with Epic Games will create a transformational games and entertainment universe that integrates Disney’s world-class storytelling into Epic’s cultural phenomenon Fortnite, enabling consumers to play, watch, create, and shop for both digital and physical goods,” Iger stated. “This marks Disney’s biggest entry ever into the world of video games and offers significant opportunities for growth and expansion.” ©Disney It’s that last thing Bob Iger referenced that really makes our ears perk up. If we’re going to be seeing so much of Disney in a ‘Fortnite’ community from this collaboration, it seems reasonable that this deal could mean some semblance of Fortnite in the Disney parks (even if further in the future!) ©Disney We’ve seen this in other major theme park players lately and go on to prove very successful for brands like Universal with Nintendo when they partnered to create Super Nintendo World. Could we even go on to see a land expansion for this particular collaboration? While there’s still a lot up in the air about this partnership and what this will truly look like when it’s ready to be unveiled to the public, we think it’s worth keeping an eye on for sure. 5. Planning a Disney World trip for the first time can feel like you need to learn a whole new language. Visiting Disney World can feel like learning a new language. There are so many words and phrases used within the Disney World gates that can seem really strange if you’ve never heard them before. While a lot of these phrases are fun snippets of ride audios, some of them refer to things that take place throughout your Disney day. We’re here to talk about some of the phrases that you’ll only ever hear at Disney World. We’ll start off strong with one of our favorites. “Bagging the fish.” Of course, you might hear this in like, a fish market. But hearing it at Disney World might sound super strange. “Bagging the fish” refers to something that takes place during Fantasmic! in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Fantasmic! This one needs a bit of backstory. The show has fireworks after a ton of beloved Disney characters are merrily dancing on a boat. Each of the characters runs inside of the boat’s main cabin during the fireworks for safety reasons. Well, Ariel can’t run inside because she has a tail. You know — mermaid things. So, Prince Eric saves the day and keeps her protected from fire hazards by throwing a flame-retardant blanket over her. Fantasmic! Bagging the fish. That’s what they call it. It happens on the far left of the boat. See if you can spot it in action! Click here for more on Fantasmic! “The BacKSIDE OF WATERRRRRRR! O2H! O2H!” The World Famous Jungle Cruise. Home to world famous puns and silly lil’ jokes that Disney Adults love to repeat over and over. Jungle Cruise Aboard the Jungle Cruise ride in Magic Kingdom, there’s a ride scene where your bote (another Jungle Cruise joke) takes you underneath a waterfall. Jungle Cruise Skipper Your Skipper will tell you that this is the 8th wonder of the world. The backside of water. And then, “O2H” instead of H2O. Get it? Chemistry? In reverse? Yeahhhh. Expect lots of jokes like that on this ride. We promise you’ll probably laugh at SOME point. Click here for more on Jungle Cruise! “Bring your death certificate.” You’re probably wondering why death certificates would be mentioned at Disney World. Well, there’s a hilariously morbid attraction called the Haunted Mansion. I actually used to work there. Yes, really! Haunted Mansion in Disney World Anyway, you’ll hear all sorts of jokes about death and dying and decaying throughout your journey through the mansion. At the very end of the ride, Madame Leota (a fortune teller/medium) encourages you to hurry back to the mansion but to bring your death certificate next time. I was a Haunted Mansion Maid. Here’s what I need you to know. Don’t worry, the ride is really silly. It’s meant for children, we promise. “Should we start in Canada or Mexico?” You’re probably thinking that Canada and Mexico are pretty far away from each other. Well, in EPCOT, you can hop between the two in about 10 minutes. “Starting in Canada or Mexico” refers to drinking around the world at EPCOT. Blood Orange Margarita This is when folks make it a challenge to grab an alcoholic bevi from each of the 11 countries in World Showcase. It’s widely debated whether or not you should start in Canada, where you’ll start with a gentle helping of ciders or beers, or if you should start in Mexico, with a not-so-gentle helping of margaritas. Blanche Chambly Rumor has it that if you start with Mexico’s drink of choice, you’ll have a wild day ahead of you. Click here for more about drinking around the world! “Thank the Phoenicians.” If you’re wondering who the Phoenicians were, they ruled the Mediterranean before the Greeks and Romans, and they played a very significant role in creating the modern alphabet, which allows us to read, write, talk, and communicate the way we do today. Spaceship Earth Of course, you’ll learn all this on Spaceship Earth in EPCOT! The ride transports you through the history of planet Earth, and there’s an iconic part that says, “If you can read this, Thank the Phoenicians.” Click here for more on EPCOT’s rides! And there you have it! Hopefully, you now have a greater understanding of Disney World’s lingo. 6. If you spend even a few minutes a day online, then you’ve probably taken note of the way the Internet is suddenly focused on the Kelce brothers. ©Disney It all started when Taylor Swift went public with her new boyfriend, Travis Kelce. You know, Kansas City Chiefs tight end. (Suddenly I care a LOT about football.) You’ve probably also heard of Jason Kelce, Travis’s brother, who is a center for the Philadelphia Eagles. So… what does all of this have to do with Disney or Disney food? Well, the Kelce family LOVES Disney World. Jason even visited Disney World with his family while he was in Orlando for the Pro Bowl. He shared a bit of a recap of his time there, and we just had to share it. Jason and Travis talked on New Heights for a YouTube video, and in it, Jason shared details on Disney, dad life, and football. Jason shared that his three daughters got to meet Elsa and Anna, seeing Cinderella Castle and fireworks in Magic Kingdom, and how awesome it was to see his daughters so happy. The he recapped the snacks that he ate, he said that he had a foot-long hot dog, a churro, and a Dole Whip. ©Kylie Kelce via Instagram He said, “Perhaps the most underrated thing I had… there were… SPRING ROLLS! Cheeseburger and pizza spring rolls.” Spring Rolls Travis also got super excited at that point, exclaiming, “A CHEESEBURGER SPRING ROLL?!” Yeah, Travvie. We feel that way, too. Jason said he could have eaten 18 of those things. ©New Heights He gave shoutouts to their mom, Donna, for being the Disney expert on the trip. He also mentioned that their travel agent and friend Betsy showed them this amazing snack. You can get two of these bad boys yourself in Adventureland for $9.50. 7. I’m not even exaggerating when I say DFB reporters go to Disney World every.single.day. Welcome to Disney World! As you might imagine, the DFB reporting crew has continuous discussions (well, I’ll be honest, sometimes they’re DEBATES) about what’s best to wear the parks (especially SHOES), what we carry with us, and what bag works best in the parks. And I know that before I became a Disney World reporter, I was always looking for tips on the best park bags myself, so I’m sharing a NEW favorite with you today! DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. When the Festival of the Arts opened this year at Disney World, some brand new Disney Lug bags were part of the exclusive festival merchandise, including this mini backpack style Lug calls the “Hopper Shorty.” 2024 EPCOT Festival of the Arts Lug Bag featuring Figment I was really busy running around doing food and drink reviews that day — as our whole crew was (don’t sleep on the Torta Ricotta di Cioccolata, y’all). But fortunately, at the end of the night, these bags were still in stock at Creations Shop, and I was able to take a closer look. I ended up going home with one (YES, we are tempted by the new merch just like you)! Creations Shop in EPCOT This bag was $90 ($72 with my passholder discount), and yeah, that’s not cheap — but it’s about the same price I have paid for other bags, before. I wore it to Disney World the very next day, and it quickly became my NEW favorite! The huge benefit here is the organization — someone clearly put SO MUCH THOUGHT into the design of this bag. Let’s start at the back of the bag. (Noting here that I am borrowing some Lug product photos, because the studio lighting shows the details better than I can, but my Disney lug bag is set up just like this!) See that zipper? There’s a big pocket back here that is perfect for your debit/credit cards, cash and any other valuables. This pocket is against your back when you’re wearing the bag, so there’s no way for anyone else to access it without your knowledge. ©lug Now let’s look at the front and sides. There are two zippered pockets on the front. The top one actually goes all the way to the bottom of the bag, behind the lower pocket on the front. And the lower pocket is the perfect size to hold my portable charger for my phone. I can leave it zipped up in here with just a little spot open for the cord to come out when I am using it. And the sides — those gusseted pockets are perfect for a water bottle, and they fit my umbrella just fine! The side pockets have magnetic closures, so I also feel good about using one for my phone if I’m not carrying an umbrella. (One quick note here about the portable charger and umbrella — you’ll need to pull those out of your bag and hold them out in front of your body when going through Disney World security, which is another benefit to having them so quickly accessible in this bag.) ©lug Now on to the main compartment of this Lug backpack. Inside there’s even more organization, including a plastic zippered pocket great for storing a small tube of sunscreen, hand sanitizer or other cosmetics that could spill, more pockets for small items, and a little pouch for sunglasses. I especially appreciate this because I wear prescription glasses, and usually switch between my regular specs and prescription sunglasses several times a day! ©lug A couple more features I really like in this bag — the bottom is coated in plastic and easy to wipe off, and the straps are padded and include a “grippy” material to keep them from sliding off your shoulders. I am a plus-size girlie, and I am usually concerned about strap length on crossbody bags and things like mini backpacks. I am here to report there is plenty of room, seriously way more room than I need, on the adjustable straps for this bag. Winnie the Pooh Lug Backpack available in the EPCOT UK Pavilion I do have one warning about this bag, though: You’re going to get asked about it in Disney World — A LOT. I get stopped several times a day, every day, from Disney World guests and even Cast Members asking about my Lug backpack! We’re starting to see more Lug bags in the parks all the time, so if you’re wondering about them, hopefully I’ve convinced you they are well designed and high quality! We know this Orange Bird Lug Crossbody will be available later this month at the EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival, and we can’t wait to see what other Lug bags we will find in Disney World soon! ©Disney If you think the Hopper Shorty would be perfect for you, but you’re looking for a non-Disney design, you can check out Lug’s store on Amazon for lots more choices! 9. You have to jump through a lot of hoops before ever stepping foot on a commercial airplane. Getting on a plane is already a LOT First, you’ve got to check in to your flight (although, you can do that online these days) and hope it doesn’t get delayed or canceled. You’ll also need to take off your shoes, your coats, and electronics just to be herded through long security lines (although there are ways to avoid that, too). Then you have to wait for your flight to board and the chaos that usually brings. But would you agree to do one more thing before stepping on an airplane? For example, would you agree to be weighed? One airline, Finnair, is doing just that. Yep, according to CNN, Finnair has started to WEIGH passengers before they get on the plane. But wait… hear us out, because this isn’t what you think. First, they’re not weighing ALL passengers. Those that are getting weighed are voluntarily doing so. ©Finnair But there’s more because this weighing isn’t to determine passenger weight per se. Passengers are being weighed WITH their luggage at the departure gate to help the airline figure out proper weight estimates for planes before takeoff. See? It’s for science! Again, it’s only for those who consent to being weighed and the data is not linked to each passenger, keeping it anonymous. The airline is merely looking at the numbers. ©Finnair Right now, the trial is only happening at Finnair’s Helsinki Airport hub, but believe it or not, there have been a LOT of volunteers agreeing to be weighed. Finnair started earlier this week, but in just a few days, more than 800 people had already agreed to be weighed. Obviously, Finnair was “positively surprised by the number of volunteers.” ©Finnair “We have communicated about this survey to Finnair customers via our social media channels and our mobile app, and the first volunteers were proactively asking to take part even before the equipment was set up,” Päivyt Tallqvist, Finnair’s senior vice president of communications, said. Finnair will collect the data and use it to figure out the average weight of passengers and their luggage “for the purpose of aircraft balance and performance calculations that are needed for the safe operation of flights.” Like we said, it’s for science! Air travel Air New Zealand announced in 2023 that they would also begin weighing passengers before boarding, so it’s possible this could become a trend. Stay tuned to DFB for more. 12. Yet another lawsuit has been filed against Disney, this time for another waterslide injury. Typhoon Lagoon This is the second lawsuit of the sort, as a woman sued Disney for injuries she sustained in 2023 at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon. She reportedly went airborne on a waterslide, which caused her to land in the shallow pool of water that gathered at the bottom of the slide. The impact caused “genital lacerations and internal organ damage, requiring two hospital visits for treatment.” Now, a second waterslide-related lawsuit has been filed. According to Fox35 Orlando, a lawsuit was filed in Orange County, Florida on February 6th by Sarah Carney and attorneys at Morgan & Morgan. On June 17th, 2022, the plaintiff was visiting Animal Kingdom Lodge and went on the waterslide. DAKL Pool Waterside At the end of the waterslide, it is reported that Carney hit the bottom of the pool, which caused her to sustain several injuries. Carney said she “suffered bodily injury” that resulted in “pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, permanent and significant scarring, mental anguish, loss of the capacity for the enjoyment of life, expense of hospitalization, medical and nursing care and treatment, loss of earning, loss of the ability to earn money, and aggravation of a previously existing condition.” Uzima Pool at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Carney and her attorneys are suing Disney for failing to properly maintain the premises/waterslide which resulted in a hazard, failing to inspect the premises/waterslide for said hazard, creating an “unreasonably dangerous” situation for the plaintiff, and failing to correct the hazards that led to the unreasonably dangerous situation. Uzima Pool Carney and her attorneys claimed that there was no reason that Disney shouldn’t have warned her or other riders of the potential risks involved with going on the slide. 13. When you think ‘cruise ship,’ your thoughts may immediately turn to the mega-cruise ships of cruise lines like Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and now The Disney Wish. Disney Wish So, what exactly is a small ship cruising? Let’s check it out and see if you might enjoy sailing the seas on a more modest vessel. Now, larger cruise ships certainly have their own appeal – traveling leisurely in a resort-style atmosphere packed with dining and entertainment options to exciting world regions. But large cruise ships are not the only fish in the sea. No, no – far from it. Many travelers looking for something more off-the-beaten-track, a bit more personal, have been wooed by small ship cruising. It is a broad category, but it simply means any ship accommodating 500-700 guests (compared to the 3,500-5,400 passengers aboard the larger cruise ships). A small ship could be anything from a boutique river cruise ship on the Rhine to a Lindblad Expedition ship of 148 passengers on a trek to Antarctica, an all-suite Regent Seven Seas Cruises luxury vessel to a four-masted sailing yacht of Windstar Cruises. Even the smaller Disney Cruise Line ships, The Disney Magic and The Disney Wonder, are considered large cruise ships, each holding up to 2,713 passengers. The Disney Magic Although with varying degrees of luxury and onboard amenities, small ships of less than 700 guests are similar. They allow you to see your bucket-list destinations from the shoreline without distractions. There may not be production shows, casinos, or discos, but there are no crowds, queues, or been-there-done-that ports. Rhine River Cruise map © Disney Click HERE for Our Ultimate Cruise Packing List! Here are a few reasons you might enjoy a small ship cruise over a larger cruise ship: Unique Itineraries: Because of their size, small ships can access ports that some of the larger cruise ships simply cannot. Itineraries are built around the destination and culture and are usually port-intensive. Captains can navigate secluded coves or make unplanned stops for wildlife viewing. Personal: Small ships still allow you to travel by sea, but in a more personal way. You can get to know the entire crew and learn about their passion for the region. Fewer passengers onboard with fewer distractions create opportunities for discussion and camaraderie. Sharing adventures ashore further enriches the unique experience. Casual Atmosphere: Most small ships do not have a dress code, and the overall ambiance onboard is exceptionally welcoming, relaxing, and educational. Easy to Navigate: Because it’s a smaller ship, it will be easier to all over the ship. You might have fewer amenities, but if you’re sailing with little ones or with mobility needs, a smaller ship might be just what you’re looking for. Regional Cuisine: Dining rooms tend to serve meals inspired by the specialties of each region and made from local ingredients. Rewarding Family Memories: Although most smaller cruise ships may not offer dedicated youth facilities (and may even have a minimum age requirement of 12-14 and older), some smaller cruise ship lines offer certain sailings that focus on educational and exploration activities for children. Families can share in real-time to be inspired by each port of call, then discuss the day over dinner or playing cards. Rapunzel’s Royal Table The small ship cruising category has many different experiences, like Adventure and Expedition Cruising, Small Ships of Princess, River Cruising, Yachting, and Luxury Cruising. Each ship may not have a surf simulator or movie theater, but most will offer gourmet dining, bars or lounges, attentive service, airy public spaces, pools or whirlpools, spa or fitness facilities, and a library. Senses Fitness Small ship cruising can come with a higher upfront price tag. However, many onboard amenities like beverages, gratuities, and even excursions are included with some cruise lines, making the overall vacation valuable, both economically and educationally. Disney Cruise Line ice cream, anyone? The bottom line, you have choices. Cruise ships come in all shapes and sizes, appealing differently to personal preferences. Cruising is one of the most rewarding ways to vacation and see the world if you find the right ship and experience for your individual tastes, just like Cinderella’s slipper. 14. Everyone’s favorite family of Blue Heelers is at it again! ©Bluey.tv However, it isn’t in the way you may be thinking. Bluey is a beloved show by everyone who watches it — and recently, a specific episode has been getting some more attention than all the rest! But which episode… and why? Bluey is a popular show for children and adults alike — and it is easy to see why! The show follows a family of dogs through everyday life and how they handle the different situations that they find themselves in. ©IMDB Recently, an episode from season 2 has become very popular. In fact, it has risen to the 21st most popular TV episode on IMDB. The episode in question is episode 9, and is titled “Sleepytime”. ©Disney Looking at it, it seems like a normal episode of Bluey. It follows the family through the process of Bingo, Bluey’s little sister, setting the goal of waking up in her own bed in the morning — and the dream she has that helps make this possible. ©Disney While on the surface it sounds like a normal episode. The story itself is simple, but it is shown in a way that makes it very relatable — and also shows all of the other things that the other family members experience through this. ©Bluey.tv This episode also doesn’t feature a lot of dialogue at the core of it, so we’re just left to watch everything play out and take it all in. It’s an idea that feels real and relatable to most, and the steps they took to portray it are so touching — we may or may not end up in tears every time. ©IMDB It makes sense why this episode is rising the ranks on IMDB, and it is a testament to why this show is deserving of its spot as #15 in the top 250 TV shows list. If you want to watch this episode to see what it’s all about, head over to Disney+ to stream it — just make sure you have tissues ready. ©Disney We love all things Bluey, and we’re going to be keeping our eyes out on all news and updates about our favorite family of blue heelers. 16. We’re in Magic Kingdom a LOT you guys. Like pretty much every single day. Magic Kingdom And when you spend that much time in one park, you encounter a variety of scenarios. We’ve seen everything from children throwing tantrums to rides breaking down to our fair share of Main Street, U.S.A. proposals. But every time we go to Magic Kingdom, there are a few unfortunate things that happen! We Battle Crowds in The Emporium The Emporium is Magic Kingdom’s biggest gift shop, located right at the front of Main Street, U.S.A. And because of its prime location, it’s frequently PACKED with people doing their shopping. That means we’re usually doing a lot of shimmying and scurrying to get around the crowds. The Emporium Avoiding crowds can be extra difficult when you’re trying to get pictures of new Minnie ears and Loungefly backpacks while staying out of everyone’s way. We’ve found that crowds in the store tend to be lower early in the morning when people are rope dropping rides, so if you want to do your shopping without the hoards, try heading there first thing. We Get Trapped by the Parade Magic Kingdom is currently the only Disney World park with a daily parade, and because of that, it’s quite popular! The Festival of Fantasy Parade (and the other cavalcades/parade-like offerings in the park) travels from Frontierland, through Liberty Square, in front of Cinderella Castle, and then down Main Street, U.S.A. With that route, it’s taking up nearly half the park…and it can be very hard to get anywhere during that time! Festival of Fantasy We’ve come across many a situation where we’ve been trapped by the parade in Adventureland, trying to get across the park to Tomorrowland or Fantasyland. It’s definitely something you’ll need to take into consideration for your park plan! If you wait until the parade is over to move to another part of the park, you’ll be traveling with the masses. We Get Run Into and Run Over It’s pretty much unavoidable that we’re going to get run into or run over every time we go to Disney World. With thousands of people crammed into the same park, many of whom are pushing strollers or driving ECVs, it’s difficult for everyone to be aware of their surroundings all the time. There are those crowds! We get our ankles bumped by strollers and get sideswiped by ECVs pretty often, and you just have to take it all in stride. The best way to prevent other people from running into you is to be aware of yourself at all times — try not to be on your phone while you’re walking and you’ll be able to bob and weave through the crowds effectively. We Have to Hunt for a Table Without fail, it seems like every single table in Magic Kingdom has to be full during the lunch hours! When we visit the park, we’re typically dining at quick service restaurants, and that means we have to find our own table after we pick up our food. If you’re dining between the hours of 11:30AM and 1PM…good luck! Tables in Magic Kingdom Casey’s Corner, Columbia Harbour House, Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe, and The Lunching Pad are particularly difficult, although we’ve run into this issue at every quick service spot some time or another. Remember, if you’re not eating at a restaurant, don’t take up a table there during a meal rush! Upstairs dining room So there you have it — some of the problems we face in Magic Kingdom on a daily basis. We’ll keep you in the loop with more tips and tricks for navigating the parks! 17. Universal has chosen to stay pretty mum on its upcoming Texas theme park since announcing its official name. ©Universal While information pouring out of Epic Universe has been like trying to drink out of a fire hydrant lately, there’s still a lot left unknown about Universal Kids Resort in Texas. However, while Universal may be staying silent on further updates for now, we’ve recently discovered evidence that suggests we could be hearing about progress (and getting to see it) soon! Construction may be underway soon for Universal Kids Resort! The upcoming park set to make its home in Frisco, Texas just took a major step forward with construction. ©Universal According to LinkedIn, key utility contracts have been awarded to companies already for the new Universal Park. This is just the first of several pieces that need to come together for construction to officially begin on the $550 million project. ©LinkedIn In the announcement, Moss mentions that Moss Utilities has been selected for the contract with Universal Kids Resort. It seems that it could be a tight-knit local project as the announcement further states that both Moss Utilities and RPM x Construction are BOTH already assigned to the project. This post also suggests the familiarity between the two companies referencing that once Moss Utilities “friends at RPM x Construction” are finished with groundwork, that will then become time for utilities work to start. ©Instagram Moss Utilities seems to be big fans of Universal characters and parks, too! They recently spoofed a play on the Grinch during the holidays adding a little disruption to their employee’s work-day! ©Instagram So far Universal has stayed pretty true to concept art for its other upcoming Orlando-based park, Epic Universe. While we’ve seen a few minor things change in Universal Kids Resort from the artist renderings initially shared… ©Universal (initial concept art) … we’re eager to see which section of the park we’ll start to spot under construction first, and just how true to the latest version of the artwork shared it will stay. We’ll be sure to keep an eye on this Universal Park as construction gets underway, so it’s a great time to make sure you’re following us at Disney Food Blog for the latest as it’s available! 18. Is there anything more exciting than a new dining spot opening in Disney World? Disney’s Hollywood Studios We don’t think so! We’ve already experienced a few openings recently, including Summer House on the Lake and Eet by Maneet Chauhan in Disney Springs. We recently noticed a new stand being built in Hollywood Studios, and now we’ve discovered that this will be a brand NEW snack stand! Yes, a new snack stand is being built in Hollywood Studios on Grand Avenue. Now we can’t see the whole stand, but the stand now indicates that it’s “Ice Cold Hydraulics.” Underneath the name, it says “Los Angeles, California.” New stand! The other side of the stand has us believing this stand will specialize in cold beverages, but there’s a possibility that it could have snacks, too, right? Ice Cold Hydraulics Here’s the thing: Disney has not announced this location or confirmed exactly what it will be, so we’re just guessing here. But it’s definitely something NEW being added to Hollywood Studios. We’ll be keeping an eye out for more details, as well as a potential menu. In the meantime, if you get thirsty in Hollywood Studios, you have plenty of other options. You can always grab some California brews and wine at BaseLine Tap House or grab some cocktails from the Sunshine Day Bar. Tune-In Lounge also has some fun cocktails, but if you’re looking to have a drink in true Hollywood fashion, you’ll want to stop in at the Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge (and yes, you can order that famous Cobb Salad there, too). 19. No matter how much planning you put into it, things can still go wrong on your Disney World trip. Welcome to the Magic Kingdom! You could run into bad weather, miss out on that dining reservation, and in rare cases — be forced to evacuate a ride that has broken down. And, for folks in Magic Kingdom this morning, that’s exactly what happened! The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover is an iconic Magic Kingdom ride, but it’s not without troubles! We’ve seen it go down for minor and major refurbishments, and this morning, we happened to see folks being evacuated from the ride. The PeopleMover We were perusing Tomorrowland Launch Depot when we spotted some folks being escorted off the ride by a Cast Member! The ride continued to remain down shortly after. PeopleMover evacuation Not only that, but we noticed that Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin was also broken down with guests on it this morning. As we passed by on the PeopleMover (before it broke down) we were able to see people stopped in ride vehicles with the lights turned on. Buzz Lightyear stopped No matter what, make sure you pay attention to the information and directions Cast Members give you — they’re trained to keep you safe in situations like this! Magic Kingdom A trip to Disney World can indeed reveal character, quirks, and fun facts you never would have known otherwise. From facing bad weather to embracing your inner child, Disney World trips show us who we really are. Disney World challenges us in all kinds of ways. It tests our patience, gives us the opportunity to embrace nostalgia, and dares us to love our individuality. It brings out both the best and worst in us. How They Handle Stress and Disappointment Cast Members next to shutdown Skyliner on a rainy day Let’s face it, at some point during a Disney World trip, you’ve overheard a serious argument or someone going out of their way to be kind. Disney World elicits some pretty strong fight-or-flight reactions because, at some point, you are guaranteed to experience stress and disappointment. LONG lines at the entrance Don’t get us wrong, Disney World provides countless opportunities for smiles and wonderful memories, but you do have to account for attractions closures and breakdowns, storms and hot weather, big crowds and long lines, technical difficulties, not-s0-friendly prices, irritable guests, and a plethora of other potential stressors. Rainy Day Want to learn more about the person you’re visiting Disney World with? Watch how they handle all these expected and unexpected stressors and disappointments! Do they go with the flow or do they allow let things bother them? There’s no better to test someone’s resolve than in the jungle that is Disney World! The 2 Most Stressful Disney World Situations and How To AVOID Them How They Budget 2023 Food and Wine Festival Wristlet Gift Card We’re not talking about how someone handles their finances daily — we’re talking about Disney budgeting! Disney World vacations are E-X-P-E-N-S-I-V-E, which means you probably can’t spend on absolutely everything you want to. So of course, you prioritize and budget! Time to save money on Disney merchandise! Do they prioritize food, hotels, merchandise, or park ad-ons? What about Disney World do they just HAVE to experience? Seeing how some budgets at Disney World isn’t about judging someone’s spending habits, but rather getting to see what they’re passionate about and what they value at the resort. NEW Ways to Save Money on Your 2024 Disney World Trip How Much They Value Individualism and Lack of Inhibition Goofy on Formal Night When you go to Disney World, it’s important to remember: Standing out is actually normal! If there is any place on Earth where being yourself is always welcome, it’s Disney World. @heather.dahll When you’re at Disney World, do the people you’re with put on a front and care what other people think about them, or do they throw inhibition to the wind and act as themselves? When you’re thinking about this, be sure to remember that it’s okay for YOU to be yourself! At Disney World, you get the perfect chance to let down your hair and do what you want to do! 7 Embarrassing Things We Still ALWAYS Do in Disney World (Please Don’t Tell) How Imaginative They Are ©Disney Cue the opening to Fantasmic! — this one’s all about imagination! Without giving in to imagination, you limit yourself on your Disney World vacation. Most of the fun is about embracing the immersive world the Walt Disney World Resort has to offer and embracing your inner child — is it not?! Figment As Figment likes to say, “It’s always a good time to use your imagination! So let the good times roll!” Do you and the person/people you go to Disney World with take Figment’s advice? Do you suspend disbelief to enjoy the parks while giving in to nostalgia? Or are you always the adult in the room? You can notice these things by how the person you’re with interacts with characters, laughs at the silly things, and takes in the vibes at the parks. The Biggest Tip You Need If You Want To Meet Figment in EPCOT Are They Brave? Hollywood Studios Perhaps most importantly, Disney World affords you the chance to see how brave someone is. Rides like Tower of Terror in Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Expedition Everest at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will test your mettle, among other thrill attractions Disney has to offer. Expedition Everest In truth, there is no character flaw in chickening out on some of Disney World’s scarier attractions, but it is something you can hold over them if you choose! On the flip side, if they’re braver than you and are eager to jump on the likes of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith at Hollywood Studios, then that’s something to admire and maybe use to build up your own courage to ride some of the more intense rides! OK This Looks SUPER SCARY…But We Might Do It Anyway! Would YOU?! Honorable Mention Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort Room We’re going to keep this one super short and simple (but that doesn’t negate how important it is) — if you’re sharing a room at a hotel, you can find out if this person –wait for it– snores! It’s important things like this that Disney World can reveal about people! 9 Amazon Essentials You Need When Crawling Back to Your Disney World Hotel at Night If you want to learn more tips, tricks, and news about Disney World and the Disney Parks, be sure to follow us here at DFB for all the latest! 21. When you’re super excited to go on a ride at Disney World, one of the worst things that can happen is that sinking feeling you get in your gut as you walk up to the attraction and see a LOOOONG line of people waiting to go in. Waiting multiple hours in line for a ride is not at the top of anyone’s wish list for their Disney World vacation. But did you know that there’s a way to SKIP those long lines? Pirates of the Caribbean Disney World introduced Genie+ back in October 2021 as a way for guests to pay to skip standby lines at some of the rides and attractions in the theme parks. The price for Genie+ fluctuates based on which park you’re visiting and what time of year it is, and today we noticed that the price has gone up quite a bit compared to recent days! Since Genie+ was introduced a few years ago, several changes have affected the system. Initially, it was a set price of $15 per person, per day. Then, surge pricing was introduced, meaning the price started to change based on the time of year. During busier times (like summer break or the holiday season), it is more expensive. Genie+ Later, Disney also introduced tiered pricing based on the theme park you’re visiting. The price to buy Genie+ in Magic Kingdom is higher than buying it for, say, Animal Kingdom. Magic Kingdom We typically see the highest Genie+ prices during the holiday season, like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year. Over the last few weeks, the cost for Genie+ has been much lower than those peak price points, but now we’re starting to see it creep up once more! Genie+ This weekend is likely to be a busy one at Disney World, as the UCA Cheer Competition kicks off on February February 9th, 2024, and will continue until February 12th. Cheer teams from all over the country will flock to Disney World to compete, and the cheerleaders and their families tend to spend a lot of time in the parks. With Disney expecting busier crowds, the Genie+ price has gone up. Crowds in Magic Kingdom Here’s a look at how much Genie+ costs in Disney World today: Multi-park: $29 Magic Kingdom: $29 EPCOT: $21 Disney’s Hollywood Studios: $26 Disney’s Animal Kingdom: $18 We haven’t seen prices that high since January 2nd, 2024! However, we still haven’t hit the highest prices we’ve seen for Genie+ this year, which were on New Year’s Day at $35 for Multi-park and Magic Kingdom, $25 for EPCOT, $30 for Hollywood Studios, and $20 for Animal Kingdom. EPCOT With Genie+, you can make Lightning Lane reservations to skip the line at many attractions across the theme parks. However, some of the most popular rides are not included in the base Genie+ and instead have Individual Lightning Lanes, which you must purchase a la carte. (Note that you don’t have to buy Genie+ to buy Individual Lightning Lanes and vice versa.) Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (Disney World) The Individual Lightning Lane prices today also saw some pretty big increases. Here’s a look at those prices: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (in Magic Kingdom): $12 TRON Lightcycle / Run (in Magic Kingdom): $20 Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind (in EPCOT): $17 Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance (in Hollywood Studios): $25 Avatar Flight of Passage (in Animal Kingdom): $16 Those prices are comparable to what we saw over the holidays last year. TRON Lightcycle / Run So if you’re going to Disney World this weekend, prepare for crowds, because it seems that Disney is expecting lots of people and high demand! Purchasing Genie+ is one way to beat the crowds and save time in the parks, but it’s certainly not the only way. We highly recommend “rope dropping” the theme parks, which means getting to the parks well before they open (at least a half hour early) and then heading straight to the most popular rides first thing. The crowds will still look big, but you’ll likely get on those popular rides with lower wait times than you’ll see later in the day! Entrance to Magic Kingdom If you’re staying at a Disney World hotel or one of the good neighbor hotels, don’t forget about Early Theme Park Entry. Guests at these hotels get to go inside the parks a full half hour before all the other visitors! See a list of hotels that qualify for Early Entry here. You may also have some luck if you stay in the parks late, as we typically see crowds die down the closer you get to the parks’ closing times. To avoid long lines when it’s time to eat, make sure to utilize Mobile Order. You can even order your lunch or dinner early in the morning, set the time you want to eat, and then go pick up your food at that time! EPCOT’s horticulture team designs and builds topiaries that look like Disney characters ENTIRELY out of plants. It’s incredible, and we love spotting all the new and returning ones each year. Well, the very first topiary of 2024 has officially arrived to the park. Check it out! Over in the UK Pavilion, we ran into the first topiary of the year. It’s Tinker Bell! Hi Tink! We think she looks adorable in her dress and little slippers. The amount of detail that the Cast Members put into the topiaries each year never fails to amaze us. She’s so cute We’re expecting more and more to arrive VERY soon, so we’ll be sure to keep you updated when we see them. https://twitter.com/DisneyFoodBlog/status/1755727745093349448/video/1 We’re in the parks every day, so we’ll be on the lookout. Don’t worry, though. That’s not the only exciting thing we saw. Near The Land pavilion, the butterfly garden is being constructed. Butterfly Garden is well underway! This is where you can head inside and see TONS of butterflies as well as learn about the plants that they love. Butterfly Garden We’re so excited about the Flower and Garden Festival, and we’ll be there on the opening day to check everything out. 24. We all have our favorite ways of bouncing around EPCOT while visiting the Disney World park. Spaceship Earth from World Celebration It felt great to walk through the reimagined World Celebration gardens just before EPCOT’s Festival of the Arts kicked off and watch the lights on the ground coordinate with the music show on Spaceship Earth. And while this new area was reopened and then had a portion of it blocked off shortly afterward, we’ve got some good news to report! The construction in EPCOT may seem like it’s going on forever, but we’ve seen some major improvements just within the past few months. We all rejoiced when we were once again able to walk straight through World Celebration towards the World Showcase, but then we were super sad to see one of our favorite shortcuts around the backside of this area blocked off. The walls are down once again! Luckily that has been short-lived because this area is once again available to walk straight through with no walls creating a narrow walkway for passage. Getting to World Showcase is so much easier now You’re once again able to walk from World Discovery and loop behind the backside of World Celebration as a shortcut to get to the World Showcase as opposed to having to go through the breezeway and then make a sharp turn up the path. Have you missed it? We’re so glad to see this walkway reopened it certainly helps us zip around the park with a bit more ease than before. Now, if we could just see the last of the walls surrounding the new CommuniCore Hall come down soon, we’d really be in for a treat! 25. We’re counting down until Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opens in Disney World! ©Disney Tiana’s Bayou Adventure concept art While we don’t have an official opening date quite yet, we do know that the ride is expected to start welcoming folks sometime this year. Disney has given us a sneak peek into the story, the ride, and even behind-the-scenes details about what has gone into the creation of this attraction. But, there’s one thing we think will SHOCK you about Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Disney World. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will pick up the story of The Princess and the Frog “after the final kiss, and join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure – featuring some of the powerful music from the film – as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.” After the film ends, Princess Tiana makes her dream come true when she opens her very own restaurant, Tiana’s Palace, along with becoming the owner of Tiana’s Foods — there’s just one small problem. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Disney hasn’t shared any plans about a potential Tiana’s Palace restaurant coming to Disney World to go along with the attraction. We know they could, as we’ve seen it firsthand with the Disneyland version of the restaurant. So, what gives? Tiana’s Palace Well, let’s first say that we don’t know if Disney doesn’t already have plans to bring Tiana’s Palace to Magic Kingdom. We’re not privy to the ins and outs of Imagineering and it’s entirely possible that some Disney executive is going to read this article and laugh because they know something we don’t. But, at the time of press, Disney hasn’t made any official announcements. Tables and chairs And, if you ask us, Disney would be wise to bring Tiana’s Palace to Magic Kingdom if only for the sheer fact that several people think it’s coming already. We think the “Tiana’s Foods” signs plastered across the construction walls likely have something to do with it. Once, we saw some folks looking at the posters and saying things like, “They must be putting the dining room up there,” and, “There’s going to be a restaurant on the ground level.” Tiana’s Foods Over in Disneyland, Tiana’s Palace replaced The French Market Restaurant in New Orleans Square and serves up Creole and Cajun classics (and BEIGNETS!) Magic Kingdom could use some revitalization in the dining department — we often talk about how it’s our least favorite park when it comes to dining, and there’s a reason for that. Fingers crossed Disney decides to do something about it. Beignet at Tiana’s Palace No matter what, we’ll be keeping an eye out for any updates about a potential Tiana-themed restaurant coming to Magic Kingdom. And, for the latest Tiana’s Bayou Adventure news and more from Disney World, stay tuned to DFB!
