We just got some MAJOR news about Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Disney World! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Disney announced that the new ride will open THIS SUMMER (instead of “late 2024”), plus we got a first look at the new Tiana animatronic that will be featured in the ride! In addition to that animatronic, Disney announced SIX MORE that will be found throughout the ride when it opens! Disney announced that guests will be able to see “dozens of entirely new audio-animatronic figures.” ©Disney There’s the Princess Tiana one that we saw a first look of, the Louis one that we heard about earlier, along with animatronics of Mama Odie, Eudora, Charlotte, Prince Ralphie, Prince Naveen, and others. ©Disney Here’s a look at Disney’s concept art for Prince Ralphie! Concept Art ©Disney There will be animatronics to represent “the critters,” which are swamp animals that make up a bayou band! The critters are “Tiana’s new friends” and include a turtle, beaver, raccoon, rabbit, otter, and more. ©Disney We heard previously that the animatronics in Tiana’s Bayou Adventure are state-of-the-art, similar to the new ones used in Frozen Ever After in Hong Kong Disneyland (so none of those slightly scary animatronics with the projected faces). Hong Kong Disneyland Animatronics Disney has reported that they’re currently using cutouts of the animatronics throughout the ride as placeholders so that construction inside can be based on the positioning of the characters, even before the animatronics are placed inside. But it doesn’t look like it’ll be too much longer before those animatronics find their permanent home! ©Disney Music is, of course, going to be a huge part of this attraction. There will be new, original music along with some classic favorites from the Princess and the Frog movie. ©Disney Several actors from the movie will be voicing their characters for the ride, including Bruno Campos as Prince Naveen, Jenifer Lewis as Mama Odie, Michael Leon Wooley as Louis, and Anika Noni Rose as Princess Tiana. ©Disney Disney has shared that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will pick up where Princess and the Frog leaves off. They stated that the ride will pick up “after the final kiss,” when we’ll get to “join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure – featuring some of the powerful music from the film – as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.” Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Concept Art ©Disney The ride takes place when Tiana is living out her dream of having her own restaurant! She’s hosting a Mardi Gras celebration, but then she realizes that one important ingredient is missing. So, guests get to tag along with Tiana on her journey throughout the bayou to track down that missing ingredient. ©Disney Tiana’s Bayou Adventure concept art If you’re planning a trip to Disney World to see this new ride, make sure you talk to our friends over at Small World Vacations! Did you hear the HUGE news?! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Disney just announced that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will open EARLY in Magic Kingdom, in the summer of 2024! That means we’ll get to go down the bayou with Tiana in just a few months. Along with the opening timeline announcement, Disney also shared a FIRST LOOK at the new Tiana animatronic that will be inside this ride! We’ve seen concept art for the Tiana animatronic that will be coming to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, but now we finally have a first look at the animatronic itself! ©Disney Disney said, “You already know that no one does Audio-Animatronics figures like Disney does, and here’s a first look!” ©Disney You can check out a video of the new animatronic here! In addition, Disney’s announcement said, “I’m especially looking forward to seeing Tiana in her adventure outfit but there will be a bunch of familiar faces and new friends that will fill up the bayou with their unique personalities.” If you look closely at the background of that video of the Tiana animatronic, you can spot another animatronic! Could that be Tiana’s mom, Eudora? ©Disney We’ve already seen a glimpse of a new Louis animatronic that will be coming to the ride, too! Louis animatronic ©Disney The ride’s premise will pick up the story of The Princess and the Frog “after the final kiss,” when guests can “join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure – featuring some of the powerful music from the film – as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.” Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Concept Art ©Disney So, what exactly DOES happen “after the final kiss”? Well, when the film itself ends, Princess Tiana makes her dream come true when she opens her very own restaurant, Tiana’s Palace! The story of the attraction, as Disney shares, picks up during New Orleans’ Carnival season, and Tiana is hosting a Mardi Gras Party for the people of New Orleans — the community that has supported her successful restaurant. (The storyline is set about a year after the movie.) ©Disney But Tiana realizes that the party is “missing a key ingredient” and she needs help finding it, so we all get to go on the adventure together! ©Disney Tiana’s Bayou Adventure concept art If you’re heading to Disney World soon to go down the bayou with Tiana, talk to our friends over at Small World Vacations for help with planning your vacation! We’ve been watching the construction progress at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure on BOTH coasts! Isn’t she lovely? And one thing we know is that Disney World’s ride construction is way head of the progress over at Disneyland, which only makes sense because Disney World closed Splash Mountain and started the transformation months before Disneyland did. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure construction in Disneyland We just got an update on when Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will open in Disney World, and now we know more about the Disneyland opening, too! Disney just announced that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will be opening EARLIER than expected in Disney World — this summer, in fact! But Disneyland folks, don’t worry! Disney has also confirmed that the West Coast version of the ride will open “later in 2024.” So we’ll all be able to be transported to New Orleans with Tiana, Naveen, Louis, and the gang in 2024 — no matter which U.S. park you visit! ©Disney Tiana’s Bayou Adventure concept art In case you haven’t heard much about Tiana’s Bayou Adventure yet, we’ll give you the quick rundown here. This ride is themed to Disney’s The Princess and the Frog movie, and is replacing Splash Mountain in both Frontierland in Magic Kingdom and Critter Country in Disneyland. The ride’s premise will pick up after the final kiss of the movie, with riders joining “Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure – featuring some of the powerful music from the film – as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.” Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Concept Art ©Disney We also got a first look at a Tiana animatronic for the ride! This is NOT A DRILL! Disney just announced a NEW opening timeline for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom! ©Disney Tiana’s Bayou Adventure concept art The new ride, themed to Disney’s The Princess and the Frog movie, is replacing Splash Mountain in both Frontierland in Magic Kingdom and Critter Country in Disneyland. Splash Mountain closed in January 2023, and Disney previously announced that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure would open in “late 2024.” Then, they started removing the “late” language, leading us to believe that the ride could open sooner rather than later. Turns out, we were correct! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will open in Magic Kingdom THIS SUMMER! Disney released a video on Instagram that says, “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opens at @WaltDisneyWorld in Summer 2024!” Tiana’s Bayou Adventure In just a few months, we’ll be able to go down the bayou with Tiana as we help her prepare for her big Mardi Gras party! ©Disney The ride’s premise will pick up the story of The Princess and the Frog “after the final kiss,” when guests can “join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure – featuring some of the powerful music from the film – as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.” ©Disney So, what exactly DOES happen “after the final kiss”? The story of the attraction, as Disney shares, picks up during New Orleans’ Carnival season, and Tiana is hosting a Mardi Gras Party for the people of New Orleans — the community that has supported her successful restaurant. (The storyline is set about a year after the movie.) But Tiana realizes that the party is “missing a key ingredient” and she needs help finding it, so we all get to go on the adventure together! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Concept Art ©Disney There will also be a special surprise in the queue… One of Disney’s goals when putting together Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is to pay homage to New Orleans culture as much as possible. And what’s more New Orleans than some fresh beignets?! If the smell of that delicious fried dough is as tempting to you as it is to us, then you’ll be happy to know that the scent will be pumped into the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure queue! ©Disney Could beignets or even an entire Princess and the Frog-themed restaurant show up in Magic Kingdom, too? We’ve already seen some of Tiana’s beignets make their way to the park, so we’re hoping they become a permanent addition! And we’re still keeping our fingers crossed for an entire new restaurant (like the one in Disneyland), but Disney hasn’t confirmed anything yet. Tiana’s Famous Beingets in Magic Kingdom Disney has confirmed that the new ride will feature some nods to Splash Mountain, and they also shared a big update about the animatronics that will be featured in the ride. When you’re prepping for a long day in a theme park, it’s a good idea to eat breakfast first! EPCOT The good news is that the Disney World parks have some pretty delicious options! In particular, EPCOT has some of our favorite breakfast items on property at Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie and Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe. But what about when you’re in the front of the park? Well, Disney has a solution for that! Recently, EPCOT introduced a new breakfast option in the form of a Breakfast Sandwich. It’s available at two locations near the front of the park — at the World Discovery Hot Dog Stand… In World Discovery …as well as the World Celebration Popcorn Cart. It’s only available in the morning or until it sells out for the day. At the popcorn cart The Breakfast Sandwich is $7.25 and comes with bacon, egg, and American cheese on a roll. But really, the roll is just a regular hamburger bun. It comes pre-wrapped The description sounded delicious, but I was a little underwhelmed by this snack, as it only had two small pieces of bacon and a significant portion of egg, some of which was kind of runny. The hamburger bun was fine, but certainly not as good as some other options for a breakfast sandwich. New breakfast sandwich! Ultimately, my biggest problem with this sandwich is that there’s a much better option nearby. Both snack stands are near Connections Cafe, which is the park’s Starbucks location. There, you can get breakfast sandwiches for cheaper than this one (some of which are cheaper by a whole dollar) and made with much higher quality ingredients. Inside the sandwich The downside to going to Starbucks is that you’ll likely have to wait in a long line. So if you aren’t feeling particularly patient, this new breakfast sandwich is an alternate option. However, I’m probably not going to be encouraging people to rush and get one ASAP. You can do better at Starbucks, tbh. We’ll be on the lookout for any more snacks and breakfast options in Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest! A huge celebrity has been spotted in Disneyland! Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland Every day is special when you’re in a Disney theme park, but today was extra exciting because there was a one-day-only cavalcade in Disneyland to celebrate the Kansas City Chiefs’ victory at Super Bowl LVIII. The star of the show was none other than three-time Super Bowl MVP and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes! This is the third time Mahomes has won Super Bowl MVP, and it’s the third time he’s gone to a Disney park to celebrate! Patrick Mahomes! Fans have been wondering if Chiefs player Travis Kelce might come for the parade as well and whether he might bring Taylor Swift, too! Unfortunately, we didn’t see either celeb at the parade. ©TIME However, we know that the Kelces are Disney fans (Jason Kelce even shared his favorite Magic Kingdom snack recently after his family took a trip to the parks!), so it’s possible that we’ll see Travis and Taylor there sometime in the future. We can hope! Jason Kelce and his family at Disney World ©Disney This isn’t the only time Disney brings in special guests to celebrate big occasions. Earlier this month, we spotted Michael James-Scott (who played Genie in Aladdin on Broadway) leading Magic Kingdom’s Festival of Fantasy Parade as the honorary grand marshal! When the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser opened in 2022, everyone couldn’t wait to see what was inside that building with no windows! Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Ever since it closed in September 2023, everyone has been asking, “What in the world is Disney going to do with that big building with no windows?” Well, folks, we … don’t have the answer. But we DO have some ideas. SO.MANY.IDEAS. And we’re sharing our cringiest ones with you today! Just in case you aren’t familiar, the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser was a unique immersive experience available at Disney World. You checked in (boarded) the hotel (spaceship) for a 2-night cruise that included your room, food, and entertainment. Yep, it was basically just like a cruise ship at sea, except, yeah, it was in “space.” Aboard the ship, you basically became immersed in a massive multi-player game taking place all around you. Sounds cool? It was. And it was pricey (around $4,800 for 2 people). And, in the end, the demand just wasn’t there. Galactic Starcruiser room So Disney World — and the rest of us — said goodbye to the Galactic Starcruiser. We know that at least some of its furnishings have been sold to cast members and others. And the many entertainment Cast Members involved in bringing the Galactic Starcruiser to life have moved on to new adventures. But what about that building? Well, the team here at DFB has some ideas. So Disney, consider this our official Disney Imagineering application. Turn It Into the Muppets Happiness Hotel I’m gonna reach way back into the memory banks to tell you a cringey story from my childhood as the introduction to this one. My whole family went to see The Great Muppet Caper at the local movie theater back in 1981. On the way home, mom was asking my sisters and I what our favorite part of the movie was. One of my sisters says sweetly, “Daddy, what was your favorite part of the movie?” to which he replies, “The part where I went to the bathroom.” Yep, my dad … the originator of the dad joke. ANYWHO … welcome home to THE HAPPINESS HOTEL! The bellhops might be rats and “the whole joint may have gone to h*#$,” but everyone who lives there sure seems happy enough to sing about it! Besides, the longer it sits empty the more dusty it’s going to get … so it’ll be perfect as the new home of the Electric Mayhem between gigs. Rent Out Nap Pods for a Mid-Park Day Break Remember the short-lived “Tomorrowland Cabanas” in Magic Kingdom? They were white tents you could rent for the day near Space Mountain and the old Skyway station. You could get ice cream treats and popcorn delivered, and take a break away from the crowds. But, um, there was no air conditioning? $649 for A TENT. ©Wilson Townsend OK, OK, they were an eyesore and at almost $700 per day, no one really went for them. They were introduced in late 2016, and by February 2017, Disney said it was “ending their trial period.” But let’s combine that idea with the popular nap pods popping up in airports, where you rent a small, private space for an hour or two to take a nap. Haven’t YOU wanted a nap in the middle of your park day? Wouldn’t a climate-controlled building with private rooms already attached to one of Disney World’s busiest parks be the perfect place for a nap? Bunk Bed in a Galactic Starcruiser cabin Go ahead. Try to tell me your jaw did not just drop at the thought! BRING BACK THE ALIEN Hey, remember that time Disney previewed an Alien attraction that was criticized for its violence and dark nature, so they delayed the official opening date to do some re-tooling to make it “MORE intense”? Alien Encounter Promotional Art ©Disney I mean, it’s been 20 years since it closed, but I bet those fun seats with the super cool and not-triggering-at-all restraints are still there in the theater-in-the-round in Magic Kingdom. Don’t you want to experience an ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter again? Yeah, OK, no one misses this. ©Disney ExtraTERRORestiral Alien Encounter And NO, Stitch. No one misses your attraction, either. ©Disney Stitch’s Great Escape Open a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique … for Dads Who says littles should have all the fun?! Sure, we know that moms just LOVE to have the kiddos made over and dress them up. But show me a dad who has begrudgingly gone along with a family Halloween costume, and I’m here to tell you that man is faking and loving every minute of it. Chewbacca makeovers for everyone! Dad, is that you? P.S. When I was in elementary school, this kid who sat next to me dressed up as Chewbacca for Halloween, and his mom used pancake syrup to stick fur on his arms. That’s not how they do it, right? Because Florida has fire ants, and I can’t picture that ending well. Picture It: Disney’s Hall of Imagineers Yep, it’s just like the Hall of Presidents, but instead of Honest Abe giving the Gettysburg Address and FDR telling us, “Together, we cannot fail,” we can watch an animatronic Zach Riddley wax poetic about the floors chosen for Connections Cafe. What? Too niche? Sigh. OK, on to the next … Build a Venue for MMA Matches Between Tech CEOs Did you know that Meta had to disclose to its shareholders in an SEC filing that CEO Mark Zuckerberg practiced Mixed Martial Arts and willing put himself at risk of injury or death? True story. And if Zuck’s doing it, others are sure to follow. He already challenged Elon Musk to a cage match, remember? The matches could happen right up there! There’s already an atrium that will hold a bunch of people with an elevated “stage.” What tech CEO wouldn’t feel at home in this futuristic environment? Pleasure Island … IN SPACE Come on now, young adults of the 1990s. YOU KNOW YOU WANT THIS. Pleasure Island The Landings area of Disney Springs USED TO BE Pleasure Island. This was a gated area that offered admission to multiple night clubs for one price. It opened in 1989, and the final club shut down in 2006. And in the 1990s … this was peak fun for those over 21. PEAK. FUN. Sure, you might not think our 1990s grunge music and fashion, jelly sandals, or banana clips were cool, but you would have loved Pleasure Island. I mean, it was New Year’s Eve every night, people! Pleasure Island Logo So take that concept — multiple night clubs, one gated admission, and spread it out in the Galactic Starcruiser building. Make ’em all space themed, or don’t. But, this could be BIG. So, there you have it — 7 cringey ideas for that building with NO WINDOWS. Disney, call me. (No really, call me. I still have some questions about the Dining Plan.) Keep following us here at DFB for the latest cringey ideas, err, Disney news! 5 Cringey Things We’re Begging YOU to Stop Doing in Disney World! After being closed for over three years, 1900 Park Fare is finally reopening in Disney World! ©Disney This sit-down restaurant can be found at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and will open its doors once again on April 10th, 2024. While this sounds like welcome news, 1900 Park Fare will be getting some updates and not everyone is thrilled about them. We’re breaking down why Disney fans are so mad about the changes at 1900 Park Fare in Disney World. 1900 Park Fare will officially be welcoming folks once again on April 10th, 2024 and we happen to be pretty darn excited! But, Disney announced that the reopening will come with some changes, and fans aren’t too happy about that. 1900 Park Fare Disney shared that “An enchanting buffet will be served for breakfast and dinner, featuring some returning guest favorites — yes, that includes the strawberry soup! — along with new menu offerings dreamed up by our talented chefs to pay tribute to some of the characters and stories you’ll encounter throughout the restaurant.” We also learned that new characters would be coming to this restaurant which seems to be the crux of the complaints. Strawberry Soup at 1900 Park Fare Back before 1900 Park Fare closed for the pandemic, diners could enjoy the Supercalifragilistic Breakfast — this allowed folks to dine and eat with characters like Mary Poppins, Cinderella, Prince Charming, and Winnie the Pooh. But, as part of the new theming, you’ll be able to meet Aladdin in his Prince Ali look, Cinderella, Mirabel, and Tiana in her new look for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Cinderella at 1900 Park Fare When we polled our readers, a majority were against this character update — saying that the new characters don’t fit the theme of the restaurant or hotel at all. In recent years, much of the Grand Floridian has been updated to reflect more Mary Poppins theming, and people seem to be upset that she won’t be part of the character lineup. No matter how you feel about the characters, the fact that 1900 Park Fare is reopening at all is welcome news. Okay, we have to admit it — Happily Ever After is probably one of our favorite fireworks shows EVER. Happily Ever After This special fireworks show that happens nightly (well, on MOST nights, that is) is a do-not-miss event, for sure. But with a Happily Ever After viewing comes a BIG problem, especially if you’re watching from Main Street, U.S.A. That problem is CROWDS, and even when the park isn’t super busy, you’ll deal with a lot of people. But we’ve got a WAY better way to see Happily Ever After and you’re going to want to try it next time you’re in Magic Kingdom. Okay, hear us out. We get you might want to be on Main Street, U.S.A. for Happily Ever After (especially if you want to see the projections), but if you’ve already seen the fireworks from there at least once or you just have an aversion to crowds, there’s a way better way to experience the show. So here’s what you want to do: Just before the fireworks begin, head immediately to Frontierland. Go to Frontierland Once you’re in Frontierland, check the time and get in line for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad before the fireworks begin. Now, you might have to do some math, depending on how long the line for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is, but ride lines are usually shorter during the fireworks. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad All that’s left is to ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. You’ll have a unique view of the fireworks while you’re zooming along the tracks. What’s more fun than that? We’ll tell you — NOTHING! This will totally change the way you see Happily Ever After and may become your favorite way to watch the fireworks in Magic Kingdom from now on. Ride this DURING the fireworks — you get a show AND a ride! Trust us — try this and report back how it went. We think you’ll LOVE it. Stay tuned to DFB for more! We’ve been keeping an eye on a construction project in Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Ice Cold Hydraulics For a while now, we’ve been walking past construction walls in the Grand Avenue section of the park, where it looked like a new snack or drink stand was being built. Recently, Disney added a name to the building — “Ice Cold Hydraulics” — but that didn’t give us any clues! However, Disney just dropped some BIG details about what we can expect from this spot. According to Disney Eats on Instagram, Ice Cold Hydraulics will be a brand-new snack stand with some brand-new eats in Muppets Courtyard! They shared a sneak peek at three of the offerings coming to the new location. New stand! First up are the Candy Painted Cinnamon Rolls! These are mini cinnamon rolls topped with Coca-Cola-infused glaze and toasted nuts — doesn’t that sound spectacular? ©Disney You can also order the Bouncin’ Mini Churros. These savory churros are topped with Coca-Cola and bourbon candied bacon, sriracha aïoli, and scallions. ©Disney And finally, we’ve got the Frozen Slushies. They come in flavors like Fanta Blue Raspberry, Minute Maid Lemonade, or Coca-Cola. They’re also available with Jack Daniel’s Whiskey, Bacardi Superior Rum, or Stoli Vanil Vodka. ©Disney We can’t wait to check out this new spot when it opens soon! Disney hasn’t shared an opening date yet, but we’ll be on the lookout for more information. Click Here to See a List of Some of the Best Hollywood Studios Snacks! Disney World has been very crowded the last couple of weeks, which means longer wait times in the parks and high prices for Disney Genie+! Crowds There are a few specific reasons why the parks are so crowded right now, which we’ll get into in a minute, but we just got solid proof that Disney World is busier than normal at the moment: The Multi-Park option for Disney Genie+ SOLD OUT today! Genie+ is the way to skip the standby line at some of the rides in Disney World. To use it, you purchase Genie+ in the morning (you can buy it starting at midnight) and then reserve Lightning Lanes throughout the day on the My Disney Experience app. You can start making those Lightning Lane reservations at 7AM EST. Since Genie+ was introduced a few years ago, several changes have affected the system. Initially, it was a set price of $15 per person, per day. Then, surge pricing was introduced, meaning the price started to change based on the time of year. During busier times (like summer break or the holiday season), it is more expensive. Later, Disney also introduced tiered pricing based on the theme park you’re visiting. The price to buy Genie+ in Magic Kingdom is higher than buying it for, say, Animal Kingdom. There is also a Multi-Park option, and if you buy it, you can use Genie+ in any of the Disney World theme parks. Today, we noticed around 1PM EST that this option has SOLD OUT! ©Disney Genie+ tends to sell out only when it’s particularly crowded in Disney World. Right now is definitely one of those times! The UCA Cheer Competition ends today (February 12th), so cheer teams and their families have been in the parks all weekend and might stay for a longer vacation after the event ends. Pirates of the Caribbean Crowds In addition, this coming weekend is President’s Day weekend, so more families might be headed to the parks since many jobs and schools get the day off. We checked out the ride wait times, which confirmed that the parks are crowded. When we checked the wait times around 2PM EST, we saw that Slinky Dog Dash in Hollywood Studios had a wait time of 130 minutes, Tower of Terror had a wait time of 150 minutes, Avatar Flight of Passage in Animal Kingdom had a wait time of 145 minutes, Expedition Everest had a wait time of 90 minutes, and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in EPCOT had a wait time of 115 minutes. LONG line So if you’re going to Disney World soon, be prepared for some pretty big crowds. Buying Genie+ is just one way to beat the crowds in Disney World, but it’s certainly not the only way. We highly recommend “rope dropping” the theme parks, which means getting to the parks well before they open (at least a half hour early) and then heading straight to the most popular rides first thing. The crowds will still look big, but you’ll likely get on those popular rides with lower wait times than you’ll see later in the day! Park Entrance If you’re staying at a Disney World hotel or one of the good neighbor hotels, don’t forget about Early Theme Park Entry. Guests at these hotels get to go inside the parks a full half hour before all the other visitors! See a list of hotels that qualify for Early Entry here. You may also have some luck if you stay in the parks late, as we typically see crowds die down the closer you get to the parks’ closing times. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge To avoid long lines when it’s time to eat, make sure to utilize Mobile Order. You can even order your lunch or dinner early in the morning, set the time you want to eat, and then go pick up your food at that time! In the gift shops, use Mobile Checkout on the My Disney Experience app to skip the long lines at the cash registers. It’s no secret that EPCOT has been changing a lot lately! Spaceship Earth in EPCOT World Celebration recently reopened after a multi-year closure and a major makeover, and we’re keeping a close eye on construction at CommuniCore Hall and CommuniCore Plaza — new areas of the park that are set to open this year. But besides those major projects, we’ve been noticing quite a few small changes. Including one change that the foodies will be interested in! Several weeks ago, a snack cart mysteriously DISAPPEARED in World Nature! The Land Cart used to be located directly next to The Land Pavilion, but one day it up and left without a trace. The Land Cart Before its disappearance, we’d been seeing several snack carts around the park get makeovers, so we weren’t too surprised that The Land Cart might be next. But now, after several weeks of staring at empty concrete, a new cart has arrived! There’s a new cart! We have two theories here: 1) this could be the new version of The Land Cart or 2) this is a food booth popping up early ahead of the Flower & Garden Festival. It’s more likely that the answer is #1 though, considering we’ve seen menu changes for The Land Cart online during its absence. EPCOT’s The Land Pavilion We’ll keep an eye on this spot and let you know if anything changes. Here’s to hoping it opens soon and we can try some delicious new treats! When you work at Disney World, you learn a thing or two about the parks. You meet Cast Members from different attractions, who teach you how to be a Galactic Hero on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. You talk to quick-service Cast Members who give you the inside scoop on what to eat (and what to avoid). You might even get a sneak peek at the newest merchandise coming to the parks and resorts. One thing’s for sure: Cast Members know what’s up. Hello, old friend. You’re a Cast Member ICON. After working anywhere for a few months, you learn the ins and outs of your workplace. The Disney Food Blog team is full of former Disney World Cast Members, and we know what kinds of foods you should ALWAYS order, and what you should…well, AVOID. Let’s talk about it! There is one restaurant in Magic Kingdom that is simultaneously one of the most POPULAR places to eat and also one of the most BORING places to eat. The decorations? Kooky. A little boring, if we’re being honest. (No offense, Sonny Eclipse.) The food? Average. The crowds? BIG! Yeah, we’re talking about Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe. Cosmic Ray’s gets BUSY! We’re not here to totally bash this place. It has some redeeming qualities. But, if we’re being honest, it’s not the best place to eat in Magic Kingdom. If you decide to stop in during your trip to Disney World, here’s what we think you should know before you go. AVOID: 1/3 lb Angus Bacon Cheeseburger The 1/3 lb Angus Bacon Cheeseburger isn’t the worst burger we’ve ever had. It’s a flame-broiled 1/3 lb Angus Burger topped with bacon, American cheese, and Sonny Eclipse Signature Sauce on a brioche bun served with French fries. 1/3 lb Angus Bacon Cheeseburger It costs $13.29. A McDonald’s Quarter Pounder with Cheese is roughly $5.99, and while we know we’re not comparing apples and oranges here, we also know Disney has some inflated theme park pricing going on here. Sonny Eclipse sauce! The Sonny Eclipse sauce is a nice addition here, but honestly, there are better burgers (and better sauces) elsewhere in Disney World. In a pinch, this is an OK option, but we can think of a loooot of ways to better spend that $13 in Magic Kingdom. (Don’t worry, we’ve got some suggestions we’ll talk about later.) All you burger lovers out there, don’t go expecting a 10/10 burger from Cosmic Ray’s. The ingredients just don’t taste as fresh and high-quality here as in other quick-service restaurants around the parks. See our review of the burger HERE! Grilled Chicken Sandwich Sorry to say it, but the Grilled Chicken Sandwich isn’t much better. Grilled Chicken Sandwich To be fair, it’s hard to REALLY mess up a chicken sandwich. This one is made with grilled chicken, bacon, cheddar spread, crispy onions, and Coca-Cola cherry barbecue sauce, served on a brioche bun with french fries. You can get it for $12.79. Should you get it for $12.79? Probably not. You’re gonna need some napkins! Why? Well, for one thing, we found the bun a little dry. And while the chicken was juicy, that chicken breast was NOT pounded out, so we were forced to take awkwardly big bites of the sandwich. Pound your chicken, people. It makes for a better chicken, we promise. See our review HERE! Instead, try: Cheeseburger Spring Rolls Craving a cheeseburger but don’t want a heavy meal in the middle of a hot summer day? Try the Cheeseburger Spring Rolls from the Adventureland Spring Roll Cart. This isn’t breaking news, we know. But these spring rolls are popular for a reason! (They’re even celebrity-approved!) Cheeseburger Spring Roll What can we say that hasn’t been said by every Disney fan? It’s a cheeseburger wrapped up in a crispy spring roll shell with creamy special sauce and a hearty meat filling. Get the picture? It’s got all our favorite classic cheeseburger flavors done BETTER than a regular Magic Kingdom cheeseburger. The BEST Burgers In Disney World Boston Cream Pie Columbia Harbour House has some of the BEST quick-service options in Magic Kingdom. One of our newest favorites is the Boston Cream Pie, but really, we recommend most things on the menu here over the options at Cosmic Ray’s. Boston Cream Pie At $5.99, the Boston Cream pie is an excellent example of quick-service food done RIGHT in Magic Kingdom. It’s a vanilla cake layered with vanilla cream, chocolate popping candies, and crisp pearls topped with fudge icing and a cherry. The cake is light and fluffy, and the cool vanilla flavor of the cake and cream balanced the chocolate quite nicely. Do yourself a favor and go HERE instead. See our full review HERE! What we DO recommend at Cosmic Ray’s: Chicken Strips OK, picky eaters, this is for you. Chicken Strips (4 strips total) are a theme park classic. Sometimes, you just crave something easy. Something you don’t have to think about. That’s when Cosmic Ray’s comes in handy. They’ve got easy, inoffensive menu options like the Greek Salad with Chicken or a plate of Chicken Strips. And you know what? There’s nothing wrong with that! Chicken Strips We can’t complain about the Chicken Strips. We’ve eaten them and enjoyed it — we have no shame in admitting it! If you don’t want to fuss around and can’t walk one more step without eating some food, stop by Cosmic Ray’s and eat some fried chicken. See a full review of the restaurant HERE! Take it from a former Cast Member. There are better foods out there in Magic Kingdom! Unless you’re looking for a simple, basic meal in the air conditioning, we say head to Columbia Harbour House. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. I Was a Disney World Cast Member. These Are the Things I NEVER Do in the Parks. We’ve been eating a LOT of food in Disney World recently. Spaceship Earth from World Celebration With new snacks for both Valentine’s Day and Black History Month, we’ve been running (but not actually running because that’s against the rules!) around the parks reviewing treats left and right. If you’re coming to Disney World soon, you’ll certainly have your choice of delicious new offerings to try! And for one of the yummiest we’ve had so far, you’ll need to head to EPCOT. For only a few days (now until February 14th), you can snag the Valentine’s Day Milkshake at Connections Eatery in EPCOT! There’s a new treat! This new treat is a vanilla milkshake with strawberry sauce, whipped cream, and a chocolate garnish. You can get it for $7.49 and it’s available on Mobile Order. She’s so pretty! It’s a rather photogenic thing, but it melts REALLY quickly and they filled that cup to the absolute brim, so be careful if you’re carrying it around the park. I’d like to formally apologize to the EPCOT custodial team — clearly they didn’t take your feelings into consideration when adding this to the menu. It looks like it has little chocolate ears! The milkshake had a nice vanilla bean flavor, and I particularly liked it when I got a sip with some of the strawberry sauce — it made it taste like strawberry ice cream! The consistency was really thick and creamy. There’s a significant amount of whipped cream on top, but you still get a decent portion of the shake. Look at all that strawberry sauce! The chocolate on top tasted like dark chocolate. It was very rich and had a nice snap when I bit into it. Altogether, this treat reminds me of a chocolate-covered strawberry and I’m definitely not mad about that! The chocolate was surprisingly good! I was pretty impressed with how delicious such a simple treat could be! But if you want to snag one, you’ll have to get over to EPCOT FAST! It’s only there until the 14th. The Disney Treasure will be the next ship setting sail on the Disney Cruise Line beginning later this year! ©Disney We’ve seen updates on the Haunted Mansion-themed lounge along with The Tale of Moana show. There is going to be so much to see, do, explore, and eat on this new ship. And, Disney is sharing another sneak peek at an exciting detail onboard the Treasure! The Disney Treasure has an incredibly important representative — Captain Minnie! A while back, Disney announced that the artwork on the bow of the ship would feature Captain Minnie and now we’ve got our first look at the design in real life! ©Disney Disney shared that this continues a 20-year-long tradition of “carrying a unique character-inspired art piece on its bow.” The completion of this art piece marks a huge milestone for the Disney Treasure as it can now begin the next stage of construction. Captain Minnie! Once the design’s framework was installed, the plates were painted by hand to give them their iconic golden color. This is just one of the multiple details that will distinguish the Disney Treasure from the rest of the ships in the fleet. ©Disney Disney Cruises are a great way to see more of the world while still experiencing that Disney magic. We LOVE Disney food, so when a new restaurant opened up at the Disneyland Resort, you KNOW we had to check it out! Pixar Place Hotel Pixar Place Hotel recently opened after a refurbishment and retheme and aesthetically it’s beautifully unique and captures that quintessential Pixar charm! But we know what you’re thinking — how are the food offerings??! You’re in luck, as we just tried one of its quick service options. We visited The Sketch Pad Café at the hotel to try some of the snacks from the breakfast quick service location and we were kind of surprised by what we saw! Atmosphere Located in the lobby, The Sketch Pad Café is easily accessible and hard to miss. The Sketch Pad Cafe The theming here is excellent. Everything is brand new, cute, and depicts modern Pixar theming. Sketch Pad Cafe You can even watch a Pixar movie or short while you eat! Very cute! As for seating, if it’s busy, the options are kind of limited. The best seating is likely the standard tables and chairs or booths. Standard tables There are also some coffee tables and chairs spread out but be advised, if Derek Zoolander were to sit at them, he may question if they were for ants — that is, they are very small and meant for smaller individuals or children. “What is this, a table for ants?!” There is a large conjoined table, however, perfect for larger groups. Conference table vibes Of course, this is a quick service spot so there is a grab-and-go station as well as very friendly servers behind the counter ready to assist you! Grab & go Despite its small space, Sketch Pad is very charming with its wall art and total embrace of Pixar! But what about the food? It offers a lot! Menu Taking a look at the menu, Sketch Pad offers a wide variety of quick bites in the form of snacks and pastries, as well as to-go protein boxes and drinks. ©Disney First things first, this is the place to go if you want to grab a coffee or espresso. You can build your own with flavored syrups or order one from the menu. ©Disney The restaurant also offers tea and on-the-run snacks like Avocado Toast and a Pizza Bagel. ©Disney Finally, it also offers other prepared items, such as a Grab & Go Box, sandwiches, and fruit cups. Overall, you’re looking at an elevated grab-and-go menu. Eats We tried a few of the items and we have to say — we were slightly disappointed! However, it wasn’t necessarily the taste of the food that was disappointing. We’ll explain, starting with Seasonal Lavender Latte. Lavender Latte from Sketch Pad Cafe We quite liked this latte! It was served hot, the coffee taste was smooth, and not too bitter or strong. The lavender taste was light, sweet, and floral with a minty aftertaste. Lavender Latte If you like sweet or floral flavors, give this a try! With that said, it costs $7, and we found that to be a bit pricey for the drink, a trend you’ll see come up again. Pizza Bagel Up next we tried the Pizza Bagel for $12. This was fine. We appreciated how the cheese was warm and gooey in the middle but crunchier and more burnt on the outside, adding some really nice texture. The inside was filled with a warm and sweet marinara flavor, but the bagel was not very soft or doughy, making it tough to chew. For $12 we expected better. Pizza Bagel For $2 extra, you can add pepperoni and if you like pizza and bagels, you may really enjoy this. Like we said, we thought it was fine but not quite justifiable for the price. Brownie Lastly, we tried the Brownie for $5. The brownie was warm with a rich chocolate flavor and hints of caramel throughout. We thought it was definitely an improvement from the Pizza Bagel. It was warm and gooey with a bit of a hard layer on top and a soft interior. Brownie The brownie was pretty big, making this the first thing we tried where we really thought the price was justified. We had no complaints and if you love strong chocolaty flavors, definitely give this a try! So how what did we think overall? Overall Our thoughts on The Sketch Pad Café are simple: solid but overpriced. We really didn’t have any issue with how anything tasted, and we think the theming of the restaurant is a winner. Menu This is a location dedicated to breakfast, so if you’re on the go and don’t mind overpaying a bit, we still think it will get the job done. There are definitely worse ways to spend a breakfast. Nosh or Not? Hop on down to The Sketch Pad Café if… You’re staying at Pixar Place Hotel and need breakfast before you enter the parks. The staff is friendly, the food was pretty good (at least the food we tried), and the offerings will likely do the job of filling your bellies before long park days. You’re in a rush. Getting to the parks and then getting food is a waste of time. If you get up early and stock up at The Sketch Pad Café, you can save time for what you really came for — attractions and entertainment. You’re a packrat. This quick service location has quite a few options that will serve as good snack items throughout the day, saving you from waiting in line for a snack in the parks or at Downtown Disney. You’re in desperate need of coffee. It may be slightly overpriced, but that doesn’t mean the coffee here is bad. We really liked our latte and figure you might like many of the other coffee options as well. Skip this spot and dine elsewhere if… You’re budget is important. There are cheaper breakfast options all throughout the Disneyland Resort and if you want to save a buck or two, it may be prudent just to eat inside the parks. For example, you can get a Mickey-shaped Waffle served with applewood-smoked bacon or smoked sausage for $15 at Carnation Cafe inside Disneyland. You want a more immersive dining experience. This is a quick service restaurant, so the goal is to get you in and out as fast as possible. If you’re looking for character dining and something more memorable, we recommend the character breakfast Minnie & Friends Breakfast in the Park at Plaza Inn in Disneyland. Bing Bong!
