Disney has come out with fantastic souvenirs over the years. Loungeflys? We’re obsessed. Cute apparel? Just take all our money. Disney Merchandise However, Disney can’t win every souvenir metaphorical battle. We’ve seen some pretty awful, scary, and just plain terrible souvenirs in our time, and now we’re bringing you 5 of the most recent souvenirs that have us scratching out heads. A $100,000 Spaceship Earth *sigh* Here we go again. Yes, there is a $100,000 Spaceship Earth Statue FOR SALE in EPCOT. It’s stunning, don’t get us wrong. We just can’t imagine dropping 100K on it! There it is Okay, we’ll be honest…it’s only $99,000 but STILL! Who the heck goes into EPCOT for a fun park day and is able to walk out with a fragile, CRYSTAL statue that’s half a payment on a small house in a rural area? It’s absolutely beautiful, and you could certainly brag about having it for the rest of your life. Anyone wanna chip in? Glass Statues Speaking of fragile, you can get gorgeous glass blown statues in a few different spots in Disney World. Crystal Arts in Magic Kingdom, Arribas Brothers in Disney Springs, as well as the Mexico Pavilion and Kunstarbeit in Kristall in EPCOT. Why do we see these as a strange souvenir? Let’s say it again — GLASS. IN. DISNEY. Tiny Dragon These are beyond beautiful, but they break VERY easily, and if you’re getting one, we suggest being a local who is walking out of the park immediately and sticking it on your shelf. If you’ve traveled to Disney, we hope you have tons of bubble wrap with you to pack it in a suitcase — even better, just hold it wrapped in your hand and don’t let go until you get home. This Terrifying Stitch Bed Listen, we love Stitch merchandise just as much as you do. But there’s a line that shouldn’t be crossed. And that line is when Stitch looks like he’s eating your animal. Um… AHH! JUMPSCARE! See what we mean? Since your pet is crawling IN Stitch’s mouth, it really looks like they’re being eaten. And maybe that’s…not the greatest design idea? Massive Glow Necklaces If you’ve ever needed to have a literal beacon on so your person your family can see where you are, these massive glow necklaces are perfect for that. Mickey glow necklaces How…how do you wear these? They’re super fun for kids — it’s perfect to fit whatever holiday you’re celebrating, but at any other time, they just confuse us. Don’t get us wrong, we love the IDEA, but do they have to be like a small lighthouse? One thing is for sure, unless everyone around you is wearing them, you won’t lose your group in the parks. The Silliest Costumes We’ve Ever Seen Remember these intersting Halloween costumes from October 2023? ©Hot Topic Sorry, we should have warned you about the jump scare. Seriously, these are wild. We’ve been laughing at these costumes every time we come across them for three months now. ©Hot Topic Now, if the goal was to make us laugh uncontrollably, mission accomplished, 10/10 job. We do LOVE Powerline Max though! And there’s so much more where that came from. We love Disney and most of the merchandise they put out, but sometimes…we just scratch our heads. Swirled Showcase Also, two snack spots have been added to the “additional locations” list for the festival — the UK Beer Cart and the Canada Popcorn Cart. Both of these locations are open year-round, but it looks like they’ll be getting some unique festival eats. The Canada Popcorn Cart is getting the Peach Smash, which is Canadian Club Whiskey with lemon, peach purée, and ginger. Canadian Popcorn Cart The UK Beer Cart is getting a new drink as well. Disney World is home to some pretty amazing eats, but if you ask us — some of the best places aren’t in the parks or even at Disney Springs! Disney’s Old Key West Resort For this one, we’re talking about one of the resorts on Disney World property, specifically Disney’s Old Key West Resort! And if you’re in the mood for something quick, we’re bringing you with us to check out a spot you might not have known existed! We stopped by Good’s Food to Go at Disney’s Old Key West Resort to check out a couple of things they had on the menu — the Tuna Salad Sandwich, Kettle Chip Loaded Nachos, Mango Rum-barbecued Pulled Pork Sandwich, and the Key Lime Swirl! Good’s Food to Go at Disney’s Old Key West Resort Tuna Salad Sandwich Let’s start with the Tuna Salad Sandwich! For $9.99, you get Olivia’s famous Tuna Salad, Lettuce, Tomato, and Pickle on Multigrain Bread. Tuna Salad Sandwich from Good’s Food to Go The first thing you have to know, this is a build-your-own type of sandwich experience. They provide you with all the fixings, but you have to assemble it yourself. Tuna Salad Sandwich It comes with pickles, lettuce, and tomato to top your sandwich. We found the salad to be a bit wet, but it was probably because it was melting in the Florida heat. Aside from that, it honestly is a pretty good tuna salad. It’s got a strong tuna flavor, albeit it did taste a lot of pickle, but that’s because they were on top. Tuna Salad Sandwich If you like thick sandwiches like we do, you’ll find there isn’t enough salad or toppings for all four slices of bread. All in all, it was a good sandwich and it does come with chips. Kettle Chip Loaded Nachos Next up, we’ve got the Kettle Chip Loaded Nachos! For $9.99, you get House-made Fried Chips topped with Barbecued Pulled Pork, Cheese Sauce, Salsa, and Sour Cream. Kettle Chip Loaded Nachos from Good’s Food to Go Let’s start with the base — the chips. They’re well seasoned with paprika. Next, the pulled pork was juicy and had a sweet BBQ flavor. Kettle Chip Loaded Nachos The sour cream and tomatoes added brightness and it had our favorite plastic cheese topping it all off. Kettle Chip Loaded Nachos Overall, we felt these were better than expected! The only issue we had was that the chips get SO soggy and that happens quickly. Mango Rum-barbecued Pulled Pork Sandwich Next up, we’ve got the Mango Rum-barbecued Pulled Pork Sandwich! For $9.99, you get a mango-rum barbecued pulled pork sandwich topped with coleslaw on a brioche bun. Mango Rum-barbecued Pulled Pork Sandwich First up, the pulled pork is juicy and the sauce is sweet. Speaking of the sauce, it’s not overly sauced so it doesn’t get the fluffy bun soggy. Mango Rum-barbecued Pulled Pork Sandwich The coleslaw adds a nice crunch to the mix and the portion is just right. Any more and it would be too much coleslaw. Mango Rum-barbecued Pulled Pork Sandwich The chips you get with the sandwich are kettle and paprika spiced. Overall, it’s a pretty good sandwich, maybe not stellar, but it is better than most burgers you can find at Disney. Key Lime Swirl Last up, we’ve got the Key Lime Swirl! For $5.29, you get a DOLE Whip Lime and Vanilla Swirl topped with Graham Cracker Crumbs. Key Lime Swirl from Good’s Food to Go As toppings go, the graham crackers on top are shredded so fine that they don’t add much texture to this swirl. Next, when it comes to the flavor of this one, it tastes like regular lime. Key Lime Swirl We do find that the vanilla does tone down the tartness, so if you want a full punch of tartness, you may want to consider getting this without the vanilla. Overall, we think this swirl is very refreshing! Full Spread from Good’s Food to Go We definitely recommend grabbing a bite to eat at Good’s Food to Go, so make sure you go check it out while you can! Don’t forget to stay tuned to DFB as we bring you even more reviews from Disney World throughout the year and beyond! REVIEW: There’s a NEW Poutine Snack in Disney World Right Now! Are you ready to see a fierce, epic battle? Mr. Tiger Squishmallow We’re talking stuffed animals vs. stuffed animals. Plush toy pitted against plush toy. You may think we’re joking around, but two new lawsuits have recently been filed, bringing cute and lovable stuffed toys into a head-to-head battle of the courts. You can often find your favorite Disney character as a popular Squishmallow toy, but now they’re headed to court. According to Reuters, Squishmallows, the adorable and sensational stuffed toys, is suing popular toy-making factory, Build-A-Bear Workshop, over their latest Skoosherz plush toy line. Squishmallows is calling out Skoosherz as “knockoffs” that have “infringed its intellectual property rights.” Mr. Lion Squishmallow Squishmallows is a toy brand owned by Jazwares which is owned by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway. In a statement, Jazwares’ lawyer, Moez Kaba, shared, “When it comes to intellectual property, imitation is not the sincerest form of flattery.” Jazwares has sued Build-A-Bear in Los Angeles federal court, saying the former “‘blatantly and intentionally’ undermined its goodwill and created substantial confusion among consumers by copying Squishmallows’ look and feel, including ‘shaped fanciful renditions’ of animals, ‘simplified Asian style Kawaii faces,’ and ‘velvety velour-like’ fabric.” Mr. Elephant Squishmallow Incidentally, Build-A-Bear then filed their own lawsuit in St. Louis federal court against Squishmallow in retaliation. According to Build-A-Bear’s filings, Squishmallows do not have consistency in their products. They claim that their new Skoosherz are simply the most recent “soft, pillow-like squishy-type” of plush toys, which have been trending for years and are not specific to Squishmallows. ©Build-A-Bear Build-A-Bear shared that they only recently launched their new line of Skoosherz for Valentine’s Day so they could use the market on that day for toys that were “uniquely styled for optimal hugging benefits.” So what does each company want out of their respective lawsuit? Jazwares wants Skoosherz and similar products to no longer be sold, and for Build-A-Bear to pay “unspecified triple damages.” Build-A-Bear simply wants the court to declare that it did not infringe on “trade dress” rights and that those rights are not enforceable. Pink panda Squishmallow Two cute, adorable, huggable toys will be battling it out in the courts. We’ll be waiting to hear the final results. A lot is happening around Disney World these days! Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster In Magic Kingdom, a new ride, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, is set to open this summer and a big expansion is in the works. TWO new dining spots, The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers and Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs, are coming to Disney’s Boardwalk. Dinoland, U.S.A. is going to get a new theme at some point. In Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster has closed for a lengthy refurbishment. We get that might be a bummer for some folks, but hear us out — the ride being closed does have a silver lining. So when you have to use the bathroom in Disney World, you often end up in a bathroom crowded with other people. Although that’s to be expected, we don’t know about you, but we like to seek out quieter spots for our bathroom breaks. Well, if we need to go to the bathroom in Hollywood Studios, we know where to go now. Closed We’ll head straight to the bathrooms near Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. With the ride being closed, few people are ever in the area, which means less people using those bathrooms. This is a great tip for those crowded days when you just want to get away from people, even if it’s for a few minutes. Trust us, you’ll certainly appreciate that little extra peace and quiet. Rock ‘n Roller Coaster Disney has not yet revealed a reopening date for the ride, so these bathrooms will be nice and quiet for a few months, at least. Enjoy it while you can! We’ve done some…questionable things for our love of all things Disney, and apparently, that extends into other fandoms as well. Ba Da Ba Ba Bah… We’ve been keeping up with the latest McDonald’s news and announcements because let’s face it — we might love McDonald’s almost as much as we love Disney. And, McDonald’s is making us want to book a flight for the latest Happy Meal Toys coming soon! We’re about to book a trip to Japan for these new Happy Meal Toys coming soon! They feature the iconic Nintendo character, Kirby, and are just straight-up adorable. According to Nintendo Life, these toys will be available at participating McDonald’s locations throughout Japan beginning on February 23rd, 2024. So, to any of our readers living in Japan, make sure you mark your calendars. YUM Of course, we’ve got plenty of reasons to book a trip to Japan, especially with the new Fantasy Springs land expansion at Toyko Disney! Fantasy Springs is a park expansion “themed to magical springs that lead to a world of Disney fantasy.” The expansion will be comprised of three areas and a new hotel. We’re in the midst of one of Disney World’s busiest weeks of the year! Cinderella Castle This particular week in February is both Mardi Gras and Presidents Day Weekend, which means that hoards of people have time off from school and work. We’ve been fighting some crowds in the parks for the past few days, but it’s likely to ramp up even more as we head into the weekend. And if you’re trying to head to the parks today, there might be an issue! According to the Disney Park Pass availability calendar, all four parks are FULL for all ticket types today (Friday, February 16th). When we checked this morning, the calendar was grayed out for ticket holders and Annual Passholders. That’s wild! ©Disney But on top of that, the Individual Lightning Lanes sold out FAST today. Shortly before 10AM, all five of the rides with separately purchased Lightning Lanes were unavailable for the day, which means people were buying them UP this morning! These rides include Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, TRON Lightcycle / Run, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Rise of the Resistance, and Flight of Passage. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind So if you’re heading to the parks today and this weekend, you better be prepared! It looks like we’re about to experience some heavy crowds and long wait times. We had noticed a few weeks back that hotels were filling up rapidly for Presidents Day weekend, and now we’re seeing the effects of that. It’s no secret that we go to Disney World EVERY DAY! We’d like to think we’re pros when it comes to taking on new snacks, rides, and merchandise and we know Cast Members are at the heart of all of this! Cast Members! We wouldn’t be able to do any of the things we do without Cast Members and it is truly because of them that Walt Disney World runs as incredibly magically as it does. So read on because we’re breaking down the 5 things you can do to be every Disney World Cast Member’s favorite person and make their day! ©Disney Be Kind! This sounds like an obvious one but have we seen otherwise. Cast Members are human just like the rest of us, so always be kind! EPCOT Cast Members Even a smile can go a long way. We’ve seen Cast Members having bad days (we all have them) but a smile and a wave have turned their moods around! What can you do to be kind? Smile, wave, offer up a “Hey, how are you?” or a “Thank you, have a good day!” you’ll be sure to make them smile! Here’s what Cast Members recommend wearing to the parks! Extend Understanding and Empathy This goes hand-in-hand with being kind. Cast Members can’t always control things and situations that happen. If an attractions cast member’s ride is down, don’t be mean to them, instead try to understand that they’re not responsible for the ride being down and can’t always fix it themselves. Magic Kingdom In these scenarios, it is important to extend empathy towards them. There will be guests who simply will not heed this ask, so be that guest who is empathetic. With the spring showers and summer thunderstorms approaching, now more than ever it’s important to understand and empathize with those attractions Cast Members whose rides will inevitably go down for weather: They can’t control it. Here’s a Cast Member parking secret! Leave Cast Compliments Has a Cast Member ever done something amazing for you? Perhaps a Magical Moment for your child? Maybe they were just kind and offered you a suggestion on what to do next! Whatever they did, be sure to recognize them for it! Cast Compliments can now be entered through the Walt Disney mobile app, and the form makes it easy to recognize the Cast Member who did something special! All a guest has to do is take down the Cast Member’s name and location information and enter it through the form that is located at the bottom of the app’s navigation pane. You’ll enter the Cast Member’s name, hometown found on their nametag, the date of the interaction, where it happened, and choose from a list of scenarios that match what happened to you the best! These are compliments that go on their records and are nice ways for a Cast Member to feel appreciated! Here’s a Cast Member character secret! Be Punctual! This is important for guests using Lightning Lanes, Virtual Queues, and any other sort of reservation! Being punctual to your reservation, no matter what it is, makes the lives of Cast Members so much easier. TRON Lightcycle / Run Cast Members are able to accommodate you and your party more appropriately when you are punctual and it creates less of a hassle should something happen to your reservation, as the system has a window of time for your reservation. Sebastian’s Bistro By being punctual you are respecting the Cast Member’s time, efforts, and energy going into providing a pleasant experience for you as a guest. While things certainly happen and Cast Members are understanding, it is best to be as respectful of their time and yours as possible by being punctual. Cast Members say they never do these things in the parks! Be Pleasant and Present You’re going to interact with a LOT of Cast Members throughout your trip at Walt Disney World, there’s no doubt about it. You’ll talk with them, ask them questions, ride their attraction, buy merchandise from their location, purchase food from their stands, etc. Welcome to the Emporium! The best way to be that favorite guest is to be pleasant and present. Now what does that mean? You’re going to be nice to Cast Members when you interact with them and be present when they interact with you! Stick with quick service if you’d rather prioritize rides! That means less time absorbed in your phone and more intentional focus on the Cast Member. No one likes being ignored and by being present, you show the Cast Members that what they’re saying is important! We love the work Cast Members do to make Walt Disney World a magical place every time we visit. Without them, your trip is simply not possible and the magic they create is important. So on your next visit focus on being kind, pleasant, present, and understanding. For More Disney news, click here. Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Okay, it is HARD keeping up with all the changes in Disney World, but, hey, we’re trying. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort We’re ALWAYS spotting something new on construction projects in the Disney World parks, like Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and the new DVC villas at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. We’re always LOOKING for something new at restaurants, especially new ones that should open soon, like The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers and Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs. When we learned that 1900 Park Fare at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa would reopen soon, we’ve been looking for changes there, too — well, something HUGE has changed at the restaurant ahead of its reopening! 1900 Park Fare has been closed since 2020 and we’ve been WAITING for Disney to announce its reopening. Well, we finally got that announcement: the restaurant will reopen on April 10th, 2024. That’s not too far away. Well, ahead of that reopening, we noticed something NEW. The restaurant has pretty new doors! Here are what the doors previously looked like: White doors The new doors are a LOT prettier with windows and new decorative elements. We also LOVE their dusty blue color. This is already giving the restaurant some new personality and we are here for it! These are so much nicer than the plain white doors, don’t you think? New doors! Here’s a closer look at those beautiful decorative elements surrounding the doors’ windows. We LOVE IT! So pretty! That’s not the only thing that’s going to be different about the restaurant, though. The character dining experience is also changing with NEW characters. The previous experience had characters like Mary Poppins, Cinderella, Prince Charming, and Winnie the Pooh. The NEW dining experience will bring in Aladdin in his Prince Ali outfit, Cinderella, Mirabel, and Tiana in her new outfit from Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Many fans are on the fence about this change, because they liked meeting the other characters, too. Cinderella and Prince Charming host dinner! Disney has confirmed that the famous Strawberry Soup will be returning when the restaurant reopens. Whew! If you haven’t had that yet…well, just you wait because it will BLOW your mind. Strawberry Soup at 1900 Park Fare We’ll be curious about the INSIDE of the restaurant, too, so we’ll be looking for Disney to share new details about that as well. We have no idea if it got a retheming, but after all this time, it’s very likely! Reservations for 1900 Park Fare open up on March 5th, so if you’d like to dine there, you’ll want to jump on what might be a hard-to-get reservation, at least for a while. Stay tuned to DFB for more! With DOZENS of places to eat at Disney World, we know it can be tough to plan your meals. That’s why we wrote the DFB Guide to Dining at Walt Disney World. Disney announced recently that the Typhoon Lagoon Water Park in Disney World will FINALLY be reopening on March 17th, 2024. Typhoon Lagoon Wave Pool With that water park reopening, several snack stands and a couple of restaurants will be reopening right along with it. It looks like that means some new menu items, because we just spotted a couple of updates to two popular snack spots in this park! The water parks in Disney World sort of take turns opening and closing. Typhoon Lagoon has been closed for several months, and Blizzard Beach has been open. When Typhoon Lagoon reopens on March 17th, Blizzard Beach will close once again. Typhoon Lagoon Water Park Disney typically uses that closure time for updates and refurbishments in the water parks, and part of those updates are menu refreshes for the food spots inside. We noticed a couple of menu changes at Typhoon Tilly’s and Leaning Palms! Typhoon Tilly’s At Typhoon Tilly’s, Disney has added three new entrées to the Lunch and Dinner menu: a Shrimp Boil, a Fried Fish Platter, and a Shrimp Louie Salad! ©Disney We’ve previously seen a Shrimp Louie Lettuce Wrap here, and there’s been a Battered Fish Basket on the menu for a long time, so these menu updates aren’t a far cry from the typical eats we’ve tried at Tilly’s. Shrimp Wrecked Salad Over at Leaning Palms, Disney added a Cuban Flatbread Pizza and a Pulled Pork Sandwich to the Lunch menu. ©Disney This spot previously had a Cuban Burger, but soon you’ll be able to get those flavors in pizza form. Leaning Palms We’re excited to try these new items when Typhoon Lagoon reopens! And speaking of tasty eats at Typhoon Lagoon…we’re keeping our fingers crossed that our favorite Hei Hei DOLE Whip Cone returns to Snack Shack in mid-March! It’s Hei Hei! Stay tuned to DFB, and we’ll keep you updated with all the latest Disney foodie news. Click here to learn more about Typhoon Lagoon. Walt Disney’s promise was that Disneyland would NEVER stop growing and expanding. Disneyland DisneylandForward is Disneyland’s campaign to expand the parks to bring in new lands, attractions, ideas, and more. It includes a $1.9 billion investment plan to bring new things to the parks. Imagineers and executives have been fighting for these changes since March 2021, and it seems that we’re one step closer to the FUTURE. A recent Anaheim City Council meeting allowed developers to share their ideas regarding expansion — and they even mentioned a NEW land. Now, the DisneylandForward website is reflecting some of those potential changes. On the website, there’s a new “Possibilities Map” that reflects the updated ideas and approvals for upcoming changes to Disneyland. Here’s the map: ©Disney Here’s the legend: ©Disney As you can see, the orange borders on the Possibilities Map show where they would put the new additions, such as new hotels, park expansions, or transportation areas. Disney shared that this plan would allow Disney to bring more innovative and immersive attractions to the parks. During the city council meeting, Disney referenced a few of its other lands overseas, such as Zootopia Land at Shanghai Disney Resort and Rapunzel’s Forest at Tokyo DisneySea. World of Frozen at Hong Kong Disneyland was also mentioned by name, further adding fuel to the speculation that Frozen could be coming to Anaheim in a big way. Kristoff in World of Frozen in Hong Kong Disneyland So, it’s entirely possible that we could see one or ALL of those themes be included in that little section above that’s on the map! Disney said, “This property could be the perfect location to cater to locals, conventioneers, hotel and Disneyland Resort guests with restaurants, hotels, live music, shopping, ticketed shows and theme park experiences modeled after the popular Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort.” 100th Anniversary Sleeping Beauty Castle We’ll continue to keep you updated with MORE Disney news. Not only did passengers spend over six hours on a flight that landed exactly where it started, but it sounded like it was an INCREDIBLY uncomfortable six hours. We wouldn’t ever want to be on a flight where this happens! As KLM flight KL601 was traveling from Amsterdam to Los Angeles on Monday, February 12th, 2024, it made not one, but THREE U-turns. What should have been a ten-hour flight to Los Angeles, ended up being a six-and-a-half-hour NIGHTMARE that brought passengers right back to Amsterdam. One Mile at a Time reported this nightmare story. The KLM flight from Amsterdam to Los Angeles was on a Boeing 787 plane. In total, the plane has nine bathrooms, and shortly into the flight, ALL the bathrooms stopped working. This led to the first turn-around for the flight to head back to Amsterdam about 70 minutes into the flight. So far, so good, right? They have no bathrooms and are in the middle of the ocean, so the logical answer is to return back. Especially since they are only slightly over an hour into the flight. Imagine being thousands of feet up, knowing there is no bathroom for you to use… However, soon ONE bathroom began working, so they decided to turn around again and continue their journey to Los Angeles. You read that right — ONE out of NINE bathrooms started working again and the plane abandoned its plan to go back to Amsterdam and continued on its very long flight. Oh no, this story is NOT going towards happily ever after! We are thankful for every plane bathroom we have been able to use! The plane continued its journey for TWO MORE HOURS until they made the decision once again to turn around and return to Amsterdam. The plane ended up landing six and a half hours after it initially took off, right back where it started. Airplane For a majority of that time, only ONE bathroom was available for use. We looked it up, and according to Boeing, their 787-10 holds 336 passengers. That means that 336 people were sharing a single bathroom onboard this flight. We are having nightmares just thinking about how awful that must have been! Luckily, the plane did eventually land back in Amsterdam, but I am sure there was more than one person sprinting for the bathroom. Luckily, this isn’t the only airplane news that we’ve seen recently — here are some other, less-terrifying updates: Southwest Revealed NEW Planes and the Internet Is ROASTING Them in the Comments Experts Say Flight Prices Haven’t Been This Low Since 2009! Some new Disney Vacation Club (DVC) Cabins are coming to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort! ©Disney The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness will officially open on July 1st, and we’ve been getting a lot of new details about the updates that Disney has been working on. The new cabins are sleek and modern but are still inspired by the rustic resort with lots of fun Disney details. One thing we recently noticed, though, is that something in these cabins looks AWFULLY familiar. Way back in March 2022, we had a chance to take a cruise on the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, aka the Star Wars Hotel. One thing that we noticed about the cabins was the unique bunk beds. These bunk beds were like capsules built into the walls, which gave them a very spaceship-like look (which was, obviously, the idea). Bunk Beds on Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Well, as we all know, the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is now closed, but it seems like at least one design element from those rooms has been used again by Disney. Disney released concept photos of the new Cabins at Fort Wilderness, and it looks like bunk beds are BACK in style! ©Disney Okay, so the bunk beds aren’t identical to the Star Wars Hotel ones by any means, but we did notice that they still look awfully small, which was one of our concerns about the Galactic Starcruiser ones. The new bunk beds, though, have canoe oars on them in colors inspired by Mickey Mouse and his friends, so obviously this is an upgrade, right? Each bed also has its own Chip ‘n’ Dale mural, and the ladder is on the outside of the bed, rather than in the middle, which might help the bottom bunk feel bigger. There are also storage drawers under each bunk bed. ©Disney One thing that we thought was weird about the bunk beds in the Galactic Starcruiser was that they didn’t have outlets or USB ports. Well, the Cabins at Fort Wilderness actually have a device charging plug hidden in a lantern within the bunk bed’s wall. Disney did say it was going to take the lessons it learned with the Galactic Starcruiser for future projects, so is this an indication of something the company learned? ©Disney We’ll be keeping an eye out for more news about Disney’s newest DVC offering, so stay tuned to DFB for more. With the addition of Universal’s new park, Epic Universe, and Disney’s announcement of approximately $60 billion to be invested in the parks in the next ten years, we can’t help but wonder what the future holds for Disney Parks. One of Disney’s “Blue Sky” projects includes the addition of a villains-themed land in Magic Kingdom, and we want to know what will be included! A villains-themed land could be coming to Magic Kingdom! We turned to our favorite Disney experts, YOU, to find out what NEEDS to be included in a Villains-themed land in Magic Kingdom. Let’s just say, we think you should all be imagineers because you had some pretty amazing ideas! Before we get into what needs to be included, we wanted to note that this project is still a “Blue Sky” project. A “blue sky” idea may be years away or may never happen. Disney announced the concept for a villain-themed land back in 2022. That means it has been a few years and we have not heard any more about this idea from Disney. It garnered a lot of traction when it was announced, and many Disney fans are keeping their fingers crossed for this land! Possible Land Expansion Concept Art ©Disney We have carefully analyzed each part of the concept art released by Disney in 2022. Behind the proposed Encanto and Coco lands you can see what appears to be a villains area. We saw what looked like a gate into the land, spires that resemble Maleficent’s castle on Forbidden Mountain and possibly a figure that looks like Chernabog. However, beyond the green haze and tops of buildings, not much has been shown regarding what could be included in a Villains-themed land. Read about all our discoveries in Disney’s concept art from D23! Although that did not stop our readers from imagining what could be! You all got us so excited about the potential for this land, and we are sharing some of the most popular ideas! Emperor’s New Groove Rollercoaster This one had resounding support and so many of our readers want this! We think this would be AMAZING! Karen wrote the land needs a, “Yzma coaster! Pull the lever!”, Jessica also agreed, “The ride from Emperor’s New Groove!!” and Gail also wants to see this adding, “how about an Yzma and Kronk roller coaster – PULL THE LEVERRRRRRR!” Pull the lever! An Yzma rollercoaster has so much potential, and I think we would all be screaming along with the iconic “Pull the lever!” line! Maleficent’s Castle Another very popular mention was Maleficent’s Castle. There was a bit of a debate on whether they should have another castle in Magic Kingdom, but if they do it seems like there is a strong desire for it to be Maleficent’s Castle! Bob goes even farther and said there should be, “Two castles, evil queen one and a Maleficent one with an interactive roller coaster running between them both.” Maleficent might just be moving to Orlando! We think Maleficent’s Castle meeting you when you walk in would be the perfect, daunting centerpiece! Hades Ride and Meet & Greet Hades got a lot of love from our readers! So many of you want to see a Hades Ride and a Hades Meet & Greet. Chrissy said, “I need a Hades meet and greet like I need air.” Anthony wants to see a Hades ride that is, “a pirates type boat ride that takes you along the river Styx while Hades tries to stop Hercules from saving Megura.” Hades would get a lot of love at a Meet & Greet! We loved getting to meet Hades at the Oogie Boogie Bash and he definitely deserves a place in this new area! Ursula Water Ride Ursula was mentioned by lots of our readers, and there were so many ride ideas! Two of our favorites came from Angie and Nikki. Angie said, “I think a wild boat ride where Ursula tosses you around the ocean would be cool,” and Nikki said, “a concept like dumbo, but instead Ursula …. with the carts being Ursula’s tentacles something like that.” Ursula is ready for her own ride! Nightmare Before Christmas Attraction Disneyland gets to experience a Nightmare Before Christmas attraction when Haunted Mansion gets its yearly overlay, but we also think the villains-themed land needs a bit of Oogie Boogie! Michael also agrees and says the land needs, “a proper Nightmare Before Christmas attraction. Like riding on Jack’s sleigh and dodging the canon fire. Survive an encounter with Oogie Boogie.” We want Nightmare Before Christmas all the time! Cruella de Ville Car Ride There were many comments saying you wanted thrill rides in the expansion. Many of you wanted Cruella de Ville to be incorporated in the land. Lesley suggested a, “car ride with Cruella DeVille.” Navigating the busy streets of London with Cruella as your guide sounds like a frightfully good time! Would you hop in with Cruella de Ville? Cave of Wonders Drop Ride Next up, the land needs to include a Cave of Wonders ride. Justin has the perfect ride idea: “A drop ride like tower of terror, where you are in the cave of wonders recovering the lamp for Jafar. And when you get to the top Jafar changes from the old man to his normal self and then you drop. Then Abu appears at the bottom and reveals he stole the lamp back and the ride vehicle carries you through a dark ride portion where the Genie gets released and sings to you. The end.” Would you be scared walking through the Cave of Wonders? Bringing the thrills and a surprise visit from the Genie himself, we are a fan! Bring Back Snow White’s Scary Adventures We have one final honorable mention for a ride that needs to be brought BACK to Magic Kingdom. Our readers are rooting for the return of Snow White’s Scary Adventures, Karen said, “Bring back Snow White’s Scary Adventure — one of my very favorites!!!” We are hoping for this alongside you! We want a ride like this…but way scarier! We think your ideas would make for villainous experience! We don’t know which element we are most excited for! Here’s to hoping that Disney moves forward with this “blue sky” idea and takes all your ideas into consideration! Make sure you stay tuned to DFB for all the Disney news! Well, it feels like we’ve been here before, huh? Hollywood Studios Crowds The past two weeks, we’ve warned you about crowds hitting Disney World due to dance and cheer competitions happening at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex. We’re sorry to say that you need to expect more crowds in Disney World this weekend for a DIFFERENT reason. From February 22nd-26th, Disney World will be hosting the 2024 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend, which always draws massive crowds. ©Disney Not only will it affect traffic patterns around the resort (which you’ll want to be prepared for), but since the races start so early in the morning, crowds start filling up with racers heading into the parks (and running through the parks) pretty early in the day. These crowds and higher wait times typically last all day too, so you’ll want to prepare yourself. ©Disney We highly recommend you prepare to see wait times skyrocket during this weekend, and if you’re really hoping to ride everything you can, maybe purchase Genie+ early in the day before it potentially sells out. ©Disney Looking for more upcoming runDisney events? It’s OFFICIAL: Baby elephant Corra made her debut on the savanna at Disney’s Animal Kingdom! Disney’s Animal Kingdom We LOVE it when we get to see the debut of new animals at Kilimanjaro Safaris at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. What could make that moment even more special? Well, when they’re born at Animal Kingdom, of course! Over the years, we’ve seen baby gorillas and baby rhinos get introduced to the savanna, and now we OFFICIALLY can say we’ve seen Animal Kingdom’s first second-generation baby elephant get introduced to the savanna, too! We’ve been waiting since the day Corra was born to finally be able to see her in the savanna — and now we have that chance! She’ll be on the savanna surrounded by her family and, of course, accompanied by her mom, Nadirah! ©Disney Parks Blog Corra was the first baby elephant to be born at Animal Kingdom in seven years. Since her birth, she has been taken care of by the animal care team over at the park to ensure she is healthy and bonded with her family before heading out and joining the rest of the herd. We’re so glad to see that everything worked out well, and two short months later, she is out frolicking on the savanna. ©Disney Parks Blog It is so magical to be able to witness the growth of families at Animal Kingdom! We’re so happy for the herd of elephants, Corra’s family, and the animal care teams who helped make this all happen. Without them, Corra — and all of the other animals at the park — would not be getting the top-level care (and love) they deserve. We’re so glad to see that everything has worked out, and we will be going to say hello to baby Corra as soon as we can! ©Disney Parks Blog Don’t worry; the baby elephant excitement isn’t over just yet. We have some news coming from Carnival Cruise Line! ©Carnival We’ve been hearing a lot of big news from Carnival this year! Recently, they announced their newest destination, Celebration Key. NOW, they have announced a BRAND-NEW cruise ship will soon be added to their (already large) fleet! If you’re a fan of Carnival Cruise Line, it is time to celebrate! The company has officially placed an order to have a new ship built, which should be ready for its first voyage in Spring 2027, according to the Orlando Sentinel. ©Carnival This ship is a part of the Excel Class — which means it is a ship that runs on liquefied natural gas (LNG).
