The spring break travel season is upon us, and well, if you’re traveling this weekend, you may need to bring some patience, at least if you’re flying on one particular airline. So here’s the thing. Spring break travel means a LOT of people are flying into Orlando International Airport. However, this time of the year also brings rainy weather to the South and Southeast. Southwest Airlines at the Orlando Airport Those two things mean that this is the time of year that flight delays could happen (we saw delays around this time last year), especially on Southwest Airlines, which has a lot of flights coming and going from those destinations. As of March 9th, Southwest Airlines has delayed over 40% of its flights at Orlando International Airport. Ouch. Yes, if you’re flying to or from Orlando International Airport today, March 9th, and your flight is booked on Southwest, you might want to prepare for flight delays. According to FlightAware, 201 Southwest flights are currently delayed at Orlando, which is about 54 percent of its total flights. Additionally, 53 flights have been canceled. Note that we’ve been watching these numbers increase all morning. ©FlightAware It’s not just Orlando that’s being affected. There are over 800 Southwest delays across the country. According to WTHR, most of Southwest’s delays are due to weather. Southwest wrote in a statement, “Thunderstorms in the Southeast are impacting our operation, and we apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate our Customers’ patience while we work to get them safely to their destinations.” Southwest airplane The weather is also affecting other airlines. At the moment, nearly 500 flight delays are happening at Orlando International Airport, and 4,000 flight delays are happening across the U.S. Yep, weather can really mess up a flight schedule. ©FlightAware If you’re flying this weekend, you’ll want to make sure you are prepared. First, be sure to download your airline’s app and make sure you have airline notifications set to contact you in case of a delay or cancelation. If you’re at the airport, you’ll want to keep an eye on the screens that display flight information, as well as listen to any and all announcements about your flight. If your flight DOES get delayed, be sure you know about your rights as a passenger. Orlando Airport Stay tuned to DFB for more. Are Orlando Airport Flight Delays Caused by Rocket Launches? We are more than just a little excited about the newest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, the Disney Treasure. ©Disney Everything we’ve learned so far about the ship just has us counting down the days to its first sailing on December 21st (that feels SO far away, though). This ship is going to have SO many firsts. The first Moana stage show will be performed on the ship. There’s even a suite inspired by EPCOT. Maybe we’re most excited about the first EVER Haunted Mansion lounge. Well, now the Disney Treasure has another first — the first signature song for a Disney Cruise Line ship! Yep, for the first time, Disney has released a signature song for a cruise ship. The Disney Treasure’s song is “Live the Adventure” (VERY appropriate name), and it’s sung by award-winning singer and songwriter Jordin Sparks. Disney believes that the new song “sets the tone for a bold new era of Disney Cruise Line vacations.” ©Disney “For me, this is a really cool moment,” Sparks said. “I’ve been wanting to do something like this for so long. I’m very excited that [“Live the Adventure”] is going to be part of the Disney repertoire, and that it’s going to be an original with my vocals on it.” The song was written by Dewain Whitmore, Jr. and Chantry Johnson and produced by Brandon N. Caddell. The writers took a lot of inspiration from Disney’s animated movie Aladdin, which makes sense as the Grand Hall of the Disney Treasure will feature Aladdin theming, complete with a gold figure of Aladdin and Jasmine on their magic carpet ride. ©Disney You can listen to the song below: Want to add “Live the Adventure” to your favorite Disney playlist? It’s available on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, and more! Well, now we’re feeling SUPER pumped about this new cruise ship. Anyone else? Stay tuned to DFB for more! Gen-Z Disney Adults are on to something… EPCOT Lately, trends have been running rampant through Disney World, all of which are seemingly inspired by Gen-Z TikToks and similar social media trends. We’ve talked about drinking around the world TikToks, Gen-Z being less likely to consume alcohol, and even the fact that Gen-Z is more likely to be flexible in the way they vacation. Gen-Z isn’t done with Disney World and vacation trends, though, and three things we saw at Disney World this week can prove it! First, we’ll start over at Storybook Dining at Artist’s Point in Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. Stanley Cup Souvenirs If you’ve been on TikTok recently, you’ve probably noticed the fact that Stanley cups are the insulated vessel of choice among the rising generation. Some girls went up to meet the Evil Queen, and they brought their Stanley water bottles with them for her to sign! We noticed that the bottles were covered in signatures of other Disney characters, too, and that might be the best idea we’ve seen in a while. Stanley By having Disney characters sign your water bottle, you’re creating a keepsake that you’ll actually use every day back home! While you’re staying hydrated, you’ll be reminded of your fun Disney vacation and all the characters you met in the parks. One of our editors here at DFB tried it out with a Corkcicle bottle, and the results are gorgeous. So cute! Since that experience, we’ve spotted this trend just about EVERYWHERE in Disney World. It’s spreading fast, and we can totally see why. Click here to see what else is new at the Disney World hotels Up next, we’re headed to EPCOT! JELLYCATS! Jellycat is a London-based brand that makes high-quality plushes that look like animals, plants, foods, random objects, and more. They’re super adorable, and super soft, and super LOVED among Gen-Z, and now you’re probably wondering what Jellycats have to do with Disney World. Amusable Croissant Jellycat Well, you can often find Jellycats AT Disney World! Yep! Sugarboo and Co. is located in Disney Springs and has a pretty impressive variety of Jellycats to choose from. Plus, Sugarboo typically has a booth set up at the EPCOT festivalswhere you can find adorable seasonal Jellycats. Like, that’s one of the best souvenirs ever, in my opinion. Last year, we got a cute butterfly to commemorate the Flower and Garden Festival. There are plenty to choose from at this year’s Flower and Garden Festival, too! Click here to see what else is new in EPCOT Finally, let’s head to Magic Kingdom! Olivia Rodrigo was at Disney World this week! Olivia Rodrigo, who became widely known from the Disney Channel, recently visited Disney World! She’s an icon among the Gen-Z and Gen Alpha crew. The actress and songwriter just kicked off her Guts World Tour and made a stop in Orlando along the way. Of course, that included a stop at Disney World ahead of her March 5th show at the Kia Center. ©Olivia Rodrigo via Instagram It looks like Olivia spent some time in Magic Kingdom, took a ride on Expedition Everest in Animal Kingdom, posed for a photo with her pals and tour mates, and indulged in an iconic Disney World snack — the Mickey pretzel! It’s pretty relatable if you ask us. That seems like a pretty solid Disney World visit! Click here to see what else is new in Magic Kingdom! You’ll often find special merchandise themed to Disney Cruise Line or the ship itself on board as well, and you NEED to see the sneak peek we just got of the Disney Treasure merchandise! What do you tell your friends and family when you get home from a trip to Disney World? Cinderella Castle Did you mention how hot it was? Did you tell them that it was crowded? At the end of the story do you tell them that it was the best trip ever and you can’t wait to go again? Yeah, us too! A TV star recently shared a similar story that we can all relate to! Recently season seven of Netflix’s popular show Somebody Feed Phil premiered, and there is an episode about Orlando! ©Netflix || Somebody Feed Phil In the introduction of the episode, Phil Rosenthal recalls his first trip to Disney World. He said that in 1972, his parents said that they would be taking a trip to Florida, and what opened the year prior in 1971? Disney World! Phil and his brother, Richard, begged their parents to let them visit during their trip, and after eight months their parents agreed to let them visit the park for one day! ©Netflix || Somebody Feed Phil During his trip in 1972, he recalls that it was very hot, and very crowded, and while they were waiting in line for an attraction, his mother asked him a question that Disney Adults get asked all the time, “Do you like this?” Phil responded by saying “This is the best day of my life!” This is a story that we can all relate to! ©Netflix || Somebody Feed Phil During the episode, Phil visits Gideon’s Bakehouse, which we can’t blame him for wanting to try! Phil said “Everyone who comes to Orlando knows Gideon’s.“ We agree, have you seen those lines at Disney Springs? ©Netflix || Somebody Feed Phil Phil visited the location at the East End Market in Orlando and met with the creator and founder, Steve Lewis. Lewis tells Phil that each cookie weighs close to half a pound and takes over 24 hours to prepare. Phil is shocked when he tries the cookie and it is not a sugar bomb. Lewis explains that his goal is to create a more “balanced experience” and more of a “rich cookie” since anyone can make a mouth full of sugar. Lewis mentions that he is the “most local of local businesses,” and he has a spot at Disney. ©Netflix || Somebody Feed Phil As soon as we watched this episode and heard Phil’s Disney World story we knew we related right away! This episode covered the “Real Orlando,” and we wonder if Phil will ever come back and do an episode on theme park food. Click Here to Read More About Gideon’s Bakehouse in Disney Springs! Walt Disney Imagineering has some of the most brilliant and creative minds in the entertainment business. Imagineering details in Magic Kingdom Thanks to Imagineers, we have some of the most iconic theme park rides to ever exist, including Pirates of the Caribbean, Avatar: Flight of Passage, and most recently Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. Imagineers work tirelessly to create theme park rides, experiences, and even hotels that immerse guests in the Disney magic. Now, the head of Walt Disney Imagineering is stepping down. Barbara Bouza, President of Walt Disney Imagineering, recently posted on Instagram that she would be stepping down from that role. She wrote, “It is bittersweet as I wrap up my work as President of Walt Disney Imagineering this month before I create an even bigger impact for the world.” ©Disney Bouza, a licensed architect, was recruited by The Walt Disney Company in 2020. In her Instagram post, she mentioned the challenges the company was facing at the time and how “humanity needed Disney more than ever.” She continued, “The world was trying to understand the impact of a global pandemic, business disruption, stay at home orders, a reckoning on race, and the growing political divide.” “From there Imagineers endured the pressures of talent reductions, unprecedented hyper-escalation on projects, political crosshairs, and the need to make life changing decisions with their families around the relocation from California to Florida.” ©Disney Bouza praised Imagineers for “relentlessly” creating through all of that what she considers “some of the most impactful projects in the history of The Walt Disney Company.” That success is now why Disney has recently committed $60 billion over the next 10 years to Disney Experiences. She also thanked her fellow Imagineers, past, present, and future. You can see the full statement below. Via Barbara Bouza on LinkedIn For now, it seems like Bouza is handing over the reins to Bruce Vaughn, Walt Disney Imagineering Chief Creative Officer. Bouza did not confirm whether Vaughn will take over as president. Instead, she stated, “WDI will be in excellent hands with my partner, Bruce Vaughn, Chief Creative Officer, who is an exceptional creative leader.” Stay tuned to DFB for more. Alright Disney World, take a knee. We need to have a little chat… Le Cellier Steakhouse in EPCOT Look, we get it. Disney World is ideally made for kids and that can create complications for adults. Although Disney World has plenty of dining and entertainment options for older guests, we still have one major bone to pick — Disney World’s restaurant spacing issue needs to be fixed. Let’s face it, if you’re even slightly tall, sometimes dining at Disney World can feel cramped. There are a couple of different factors that, if addressed by Disney, could make a world of difference by being fixed or removed. Le Cellier The DFB team has had several instances of feeling too tall or too cramped at Disney World restaurants. Those restaurants include but are not limited to Le Cellier Steakhouse, Jiko — The Cooking Place, Woody’s Lunch Box, Sleepy Hollow Refreshments, Gideon’s Bakehouse, Morimoto Asia, The Crystal Palace, Oga’s Cantina, California Grill, San Angel Inn Restaurante, and Boatwright’s Dining Hall. Oga’s Cantina in Disney’s Hollywood Studios There are undoubtedly more restaurants we could add to that list, but one thing is certain — we’ve felt uncomfortable dining at Disney World on more than one occasion. Whether it be due to lack of room at tables, no legroom, or you’re quite literally six inches away from someone else to the point people are stacked on top of one another, it can be tough to be a hungry tall person at the resort. Jiko Sometimes when it comes to banquet seating and being seated super close to other parties, you can request to have a different table, but there’s no guarantee you’ll be accommodated. Still, it’s worth it to ask! Seating area at Woody’s Lunch Box In the meantime, all we ask of you, Disney World, is that you consider the tall folk whenever you build a new restaurant or decide to refurbish an existing one! We obviously LOVE Disney World food, we just hope for more spacially pleasant experiences in the future! Becoming a Disney Vacation Club (DVC) member is a big decision, but it can be great for families who aren’t local to the parks and want to visit at least once every year. Disney Vacation Club Disney Vacation Club is essentially Disney’s version of a timeshare program. Members choose a select number of points they’ll pay for each year, as well as a “home resort” (but can choose to use their points at any hotel). Certain hotel rooms are reserved for DVC guests or those renting DVC points, and DVC members often get perks regular guests miss out on. If you’ve been thinking about joining the DVC program, stop by their NEW information location in Disney Springs! Located in the Town Center section of Disney Springs, you’ll find the new Disney Vacation Club Welcome Center. It’s close to the Guest Relations building and is officially called Gateway to Discovery. DVC Welcome Center Inside, you’ll find posters talking about all things DVC, as well as some digital screens that look like a door, but they’ll open up and show you different resorts you can experience as a member. Pretty clever, eh? We like what you’re doing there, Disney! So cool! Even if you’re not planning to become a DVC member, these screens are pretty cool, so you may want to pop in and check them out! It’s Anna and Elsa! Or take a photo with this MASSIVE Mickey on the other side of the building! He’s ginormous but SO adorable, and we want allllll the photos with him. HE’S SO CUTE At the back of the building, you’ll find a desk with Disney Vacation Club Cast Members ready to answer any questions you may have. It’s a great way to hear more about the program and see if it would be a good fit for you. Oh, and don’t forget; Disney announced that soon, a space on the second floor will open for DVC members and guests to gather. We’ll be sure to keep an eye out for more information, but so far, all we know is that it will open “later this spring.” More Disney Vacation Club News! We go to Disney World every single day — in fact, we’ve been to the parks for 1,335 days days in a row, since they reopened after the pandemic-related closures. Disney World Even before that, we were in the parks daily, bringing you the latest news, updates, food reviews, and more for 15 years. Despite Disney World being basically like our second home, we’re still learning — especially since Disney World is still evolving. But, in all our years of going to Disney World daily, this is the one trick we wish we had known sooner. We’ve been going to Disney World every day for a while now, which means we basically know the ins and outs of the parks like the back of our hands. But, Disney World is changing all the time and that can impact the way your trip might go. What hasn’t changed, in all our years of doing this, is that we wish we had known this one trick when we first started! Of course, we share lots of tips on how to make your Disney World trip the best it can be, but this one is pretty easy and might just take the cake. Spaceship Earth Alright, do you want to know what it is? When you’re planning a Disney World trip, make sure you pack multiple different pairs of comfortable shoes! You’ve likely heard us stress the importance of wearing comfortable shoes, in general, to the parks, but the better tip is to actually bring a couple of different pairs of trusty shoes with you. Snack Crocs! Even the most comfortable pair of shoes can rub you the wrong way if you’re walking for miles on end, multiple days in a row. But, bringing along a backup pair to switch between can help alleviate some of the aches and pains you might feel at the end of the day (or days!) Because each pair of shoes fits differently, swapping them out can mean not having to deal with blisters from wearing the same pair multiple days in a row. Another day, another change in Disney World. Disney Springs Disney Springs has seen quite a few updates over the past few years, with new restaurants, stores, and more opening lately. Well, it looks like yet another change has come to Disney Springs, this time at a popular merchandise store! It looks like things have changed yet again at Marketplace Co-op in Disney Springs! This store, which is technically a bunch of little stores all in one, has been updated. What once was the Disney Tails pet merchandise section of the store has now been swapped to a Crocs store! Crocs! There are a few different stands with various styles along with a wall full of Crocs, too. Just another place where you can get all your Disney Crocs needs when you’re in Disney Springs. You can typically also find them over at World of Disney. Lots to choose from! But, have no fear! There is still a section of pet merchandise inside Marketplace Co-op, it’s just been relocated to the right when you first walk in the doors. It’s been reduced as far as the amount of stock, but it’s still there. Disney Tails We’ll be keeping an eye on the latest changes in Disney Springs and the rest of Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for more! I write about a lot of Disney things, and I’m frequently tempted to go out and buy the souvenir or snack or ticket for the event that I’m writing about, but I’ve gotten pretty good about resisting the temptation and sticking to my budget because if I didn’t, I’d be broke. But I’m STRUGGLING right now. Cinderella Castle Some of my favorite events in Disney World are the runDisney races. You get to run through the parks, meet characters along the way, stop for iconic photos, and receive a Disney-themed medal at the end. But did you know that runDisney also does virtual races? That means you run the races at home, and they’ll send you the bib, certificate, and medal! Disney just announced their 2024 Virtual Series, and y’all. It’s like they made this event JUST for US. The 2024 runDisney Virtual Series is called “A Snacktacular Celebration.” WHAT. YES. This is everything I’ve ever dreamed about. ©runDisney There are three 5K races that make up this series. The first is the Mickey Mouse Waffle 5K, themed to our favorite breakfast ever. ©runDisney The next one is the Mickey Mouse Bar 5K, which is of course themed to one of the most iconic frozen treats ever. ©runDisney Finally, there’s the Minnie Mouse Candy Apple 5K, themed to one of the most delicious (and difficult to eat) snacks in the parks. ©runDisney When you sign up for a race, you’ll get a commemorative finisher medal, a digital bib and finisher certificate, and a digital race tool kit that includes printable mile markers, so you can map out your own race course. And CHECK OUT THESE MEDALS (note that Disney said these are the concept art and the designs might change, but we’re still showing them to you because they’re amazing). Here’s the Mickey Waffle one… ©runDisney …the Mickey Mouse Bar one… ©runDisney …and the Candy Apple one. I’m sold. I can hear the money leaving my bank account already. ©runDisney Each of the races costs $54, but if you can’t pick just one, you can instead complete the Pineapple Whip Soft Serve Challenge. ©runDisney Challenge participants run all three races and receive all the medals, PLUS their own Challenge medal! They’ll also get a runDisney virtual series keepsake and a Mickey Mouse Ear Hat Snack Bowl. The challenge costs $176. ©runDisney You can register for the Virtual Series races starting on March 26th, 2024, at 10AM EST on the runDisney website. You’ll want to be ready right when registration opens, because we’re expecting spots to fill up fast! You must complete your race sometime between June 1st and August 31st, 2024. Planning a Disney World trip can sometimes take a lot of work. Cinderella Castle So, when things don’t go according to plan — it can be pretty disappointing. We often stress the importance of going with the flow and being prepared for the unexpected. You just never know what might happen on your Disney World vacation, and folks visiting Magic Kingdom today learned that firsthand! Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire, a stage show that takes place at Cinderella Castle multiple times per day, was canceled in Magic Kingdom today! The 12:50PM show on March 8th didn’t go as planned due to unforeseen circumstances. Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire Most of the characters were still meeting on stage, though, so at least folks were still able to experience a piece of the magic. Disney didn’t share why the show was canceled, but typically when something like this happens it could be for any number of reasons like a performer having an issue or even technical difficulties. Characters We couldn’t see the action from where we were when the announcement took place, but we did hear them still perform the finale song, so at least folks didn’t miss out on the whole thing! Being prepared for the unexpected can make a world of difference when you’re in the parks. Sometimes the pesky Florida weather gets the best of you, or maybe the ride you were most looking forward to is closed with no warning. Going with the flow will help you still be able to have a good time without being disappointed with high expectations! Next time! Planning a Disney World trip can be hard enough without having to expect the unexpected. Everyone tends to head for the BIG rides at rope drop. That’s why we always do our best to make sure you’re prepared. You’ve probably already secured your park tickets and dining reservations, and maybe you’ve even decided which special extras you’re going to experience while you’re on your trip. But, if you’re planning on rope-dropping Disney World this weekend, it’s going to be DIFFERENT — here’s why. If you’re planning on rope-dropping (getting to the gate at or before park opening) the Disney World parks on Sunday, March 10th, you might want to be prepared for it to be different! No, Disney hasn’t changed any rules or made any updates for how rope drop works, but this weekend will bring Daylight Saving Time to Florida! EPCOT rope drop crowds without Early Entry That’s right — as Spring comes around and brings warmer temperatures and sunny days, so does the time of year when certain states have to “spring forward,” setting our clocks (let’s be real, most of our devices now do it automatically) ahead and losing an hour of sleep. For folks planning on rope-dropping at Disney World this Sunday, that means one less hour of sleep before the parks open. It’s SPRING! Ultimately, this won’t really have any impact on the Disney World parks as a whole — the calendar shows the operating hours for each park staying the same after the change, but it will mean you might want to try and get to bed a little earlier if that extra hour of sleep will have a big impact on your day. Where you will notice a change, though, is over at Kilimanjaro Safaris in Animal Kingdom. The hours for this ride will change on March 10th with the time. We checked on the Disney World website and saw that the ride closes at 5:45PM on March 9th and then closes later, at 6:45PM on March 10th. Zebra! We’ll be on the lookout for more changes that could be impacted by Daylight Saving Time, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest news and updates from Disney World and more! There is BIG business in Disney Parks memorabilia. ©D23 We’re always seeing auctions for things like actual ride vehicles, animatronics used in rides, animatronic skins, and more! It’s all about nostalgia, right? Well, if you’re still nostalgic about Disney World’s The Great Movie Ride (gone, but not forgotten), you might just have to raise some serious cash for a piece of Disney ride history on eBay. Okay, so let’s take it all the way back to 1989. Big hair was in. A mad scientist was shrinking his kids in a movie. The Love Shack was HOPPING. And The Great Movie Ride was opening in Disney-MGM Studios (now Disney’s Hollywood Studios). That movie took us through some of the greatest movies ever made, including Casablanca, The Wizard of Oz, Alien, Mary Poppins, Singin’ in the Rain, Fantasia, and Tarzan. Great Movie Ride However, The Great Movie Ride closed in 2017 to make way for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, and well, some of us haven’t ever been the same since. If you’ve been mourning the loss of The Great Movie Ride, you can own part of the ride’s history — if you’ve got the cash. That’s because you can now buy an animatronic USED on the ride on eBay. ©disneyprops via eBay Does it look familiar? This animatronic was one of the mummy figures from the Indiana Jones Egyptian Temple scene in The Great Movie Ride. It even has a label on the base that says “Great Moments,” which was the original name of the attraction. It stands around 70″ tall (yep, it’s life-sized). The listing also says it’s in “fine park-used condition, with intentional distress to the mummy.” ©disneyprops via eBay However, if you want to get your hands on this spooky animatronic, you’ll need to be able to pick it up. Oh, and you’ll need to shell out $13,000. But, hey, the price of nostalgia is high, right? Plus just think of how this baby will TURN UP your Halloween decorations this year! Meanwhile, we’ll just remember The Great Movie Ride fondly. Stay tuned to DFB for more. Disney’s proxy battle with activist investors is ramping up ahead of the annual shareholders meeting on April 3rd. Walt Disney World Here, Disney shareholders will have the opportunity to vote for the Company’s next Board of Directors, which could absolutely change the trajectory of the company. Disney has made their suggestion of 12 nominees to make up the new Board, but they’re currently battling activists investor Nelson Peltz’s Trian Group and Blackwells Capital for votes. With just under a month before the meeting, one activist investor has spoken up regarding plans for Disney. If you aren’t already familiar, Nelson Peltz and his Trian Group have partnered with Former Disney Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jay Rasulo. Peltz has fought tooth and nail to get himself and Rasulo elected to the board multiple times now, even nominating themselves for the roles. ©Getty Images Throughout the process, the pair have made not-so-great comments about the current Chief of the company — Bob Iger. Like, Peltz compiled a 133-page white paper detailing the ways in which he believes the Walt Disney Company and Iger have “failed.” Cinderella Castle Now, though, Peltz and Rasulo are saying that their goal isn’t to remove Iger from his current leadership position. According to a Deadline article, Rasulo said, “I worked 15 years alongside Bob. I don’t think we ever had a cross word. I can work with Bob.” Despite his 15 years of work with the company, Disney now argues that Rasulo has been away too long to work with the current chief. According to the LA Times, Rasulo left Disney in 2015. Cinderella Castle Despite not working with the company, he shared with Deadline that he’s still a big fan of the brand and supports their endeavors outside of finances and stocks. He said, ““My kids are Disney kids. My wife is a Disney wife. I had the opportunity to open up Hong Kong Disneyland, launched two new cruise ships. I ran Euro Disney (Disneyland Paris) … I love the company.” Together, Peltz and Rasulo shared that they “weren’t out to fire the CEO” by seeking Board positions. ©New York Times Nelson Peltz of Trian Partners As for whether or not the duo will attain their positions on the Board, we’ll just have to wait and see. Shareholders are invited to attend the April 3rd meeting and vote on their desired Board members following the meeting. We’re constantly monitoring Disney news, so make sure to follow along so that you’re always in the loop and never miss a thing. Looking for how to vote at the shareholders meeting? One reason we love to look at newly filed patents is it gives us a sneak peek into what the theme park of the future might look like. Universal Orlando From new ride systems and ride mechanics to edible robots (yes, REALLY) to robots that could carry your stuff for you, the future technology of theme parks seems SO promising AND cool! Now, Universal has patented a new idea that could potentially change the way you navigate a theme park — all by wearing a wristband. According to The Orlando Business Journal, Universal has filed a patent application for wearable tech called an “Interactive Way-Finder.” This is an interactive map that can basically be worn on the wrist. It has a screen that will have a hand pointing in the direction of a chosen destination in a theme park. If you need a restroom, it will point you there. If you’re looking for a ride, it will point you there. It would also include tech that could make suggestions on where to go based on where you are currently located or what you’re interested in. This new tech could direct you to Hogwarts The device could also give you details and directions specifically around certain attractions, shows, rides, exhibits, etc. It could even help you find the ride with the shortest wait time or provide you with ride safety instructions. It would even be capable of helping you find where to eat in the parks based on the food you like. There’s even an “Emergency Mode” that can direct you to safety. It could even help instantly find children who have been separated from their families or groups. ©Universal Destinations & Experiences So how exactly would it work? Well, the wristband tech uses emitters (devices that emit light or sound) that have been placed throughout the property. It responds to those emitters to give you the information you need. So basically, it sounds sort of like some of the features in Disney’s park apps (like My Disney Experience), but easier to use, wearable, and with a few more features. Or maybe it’s more like a MagicBand+ on steroids. MagicBand+ Of course, patents are filed ALL the time by companies when good ideas come up. Those concepts aren’t always used, but it’s still a peek into what Universal is thinking about when it comes to the future of its theme parks. We’re sure there are a LOT of big ideas concerning Epic Universe, which will open in 2025. We’ll be keeping an eye out for more of these ideas and share them with you when we find them.
