Deodorant is a necessity in Disney World, and if you think otherwise…please reconsider. EPCOT under sunny skies The truth is that EVERYONE is going to sweat in Disney World. Especially in those hot months (which is most of the year, to be honest), there’s really no way to escape it. It’s of utmost importance to bring your deodorant with you on your Disney World trip, HOWEVER deciding what TYPE of deodorant to bring is a bigger decision than you may realize. Aerosol Deodorant If you’re not a fan of stick deodorant, we totally get it. Getting a spray deodorant in an aerosol can can be a great alternative, BUT there is a time when we do not at all recommend bringing this type — when flying. Flying When you fly, the pressure in the cabin is regulated, but not necessarily the pressure in the belly of the plane where the luggage is being kept. Even so, in either location, the pressure can cause your aerosol can to malfunction, meaning your deodorant could get all over the contents of your bag. Orlando International Airport If you do want to bring an aerosol deodorant, we recommend having it in a ziploc bag to ensure it won’t get over all your stuff, just to be safe! That’s The Way The Cookie (Deodorant) Crumbles Not all deodorants are made equally. We’ve had a team member share that one time, she brought a regular stick deodorant in her bag and it ended up crumbling all over everything! A sunny day in Hollywood Studios! Now, there’s not a great way to stop this one from happening, except to try and make sure it’s not getting knocked around too much where it can be broken, and then it just continues to break, and break, and break. When packing, try to place your deodorant in the smallest pocket/area it fits in, so it doesn’t move around a lot! Sunny skies in Animal Kingdom Some of us have also noticed this is more likely to happen when your deodorant is older or almost at the end of its life, so try not to bring those to Disney World either! Creams WILL Melt If you prefer to use a cream based deodorant, you may think you’ll avoid the potential crumbles or explosions, and while that’s true, you have to worry about melting. It gets hot FAST! No, we’re not kidding. It’s already a liquid, yes, but when it reaches a certain temperature, these cream deodorants can separate, making them an oily mess that no one wants to deal with. A sunny day in Magic Kingdom! The worst part, it’s VERY hard (almost impossible) to fix when this happens. Our advice is to keep this just in the room where it won’t get too warm instead of into the park with you, and to also keep it in a Ziploc bag in case that cap comes loose! It’s almost time to ROCK once again! Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been closed for refurbishment since early January, with Disney only saying that the Aerosmith-themed attraction was “planned to reopen in summer 2024.” However, after some poking around on Disney’s website, we think we’ve found a NEW clue about its reopening date! We previously saw a clue about the roller coaster’s opening date on the My Disney Experience app, and now an update on the website seems to confirm our suspicions. According to Disney’s website, Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith will be open on Saturday, July 27th. Its hours are listed as the standard 8:30AM to 9AM for those with early theme park entry, and Hollywood Studios’ normal operating hours of 9AM to 9PM. Disney Despite being down for almost all of 2024 so far, Disney has confirmed that there have been no major story changes to the ride, and this was a “routine refurbishment” meant to address typical wear & tear and maintenance issues. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster’s reopening marks the return of one of the most important rides in the evolution of Hollywood Studios and Disney World overall. When the coaster first opened in 1999, it was the first major thrill coaster at Walt Disney World, and the first to have an inversion at any of Disney’s then-five American theme parks. The ride’s use of Aerosmith was also the first time Disney embraced a “current” pop culture property on this large a scale: At the time, Aerosmith was one of the most popular bands in the world, and coming off a #1 single “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.” According to urban legend, Disney also approached or at least considered using The Rolling Stones or U2 for the ride. This watershed moment arguably reverberates today through the company’s approach to “current” intellectual property in parks. Aerosmith’s presence on the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster was a major change for Disney at the time. Recent years haven’t been kind to the attraction. For starters, it’s seen lengthy down time thanks to the aforementioned wear & tear issues that necessitated its refurbishment,. Then, there’s Aerosmith. There has always been a contingent of fans who felt that the band and their image were… inappropriate for a Disney park — they are the “Bad Boys of Boston” after all — and those feelings have only intensified thanks to the legal issues Steven Tyler has encountered in recent years. This has led to rumors that the attraction is going to be rethemed, though remember that Disney has not confirmed any sort of retheming. Fans have speculated that the coaster could be rethemed to everything from Queen to Mickey Mouse to The Muppets. So far, said rumors are unfounded, and Aerosmith and their logos will remain in the G-Force Records building when the coaster reopens. Are you ready to rock? After a long, and much-needed refurbishment, you’ll be able to ride the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster and rock out with Aerosmith again starting on July 27th. Stay tuned to DFB for more news on Disney World’s rides. Y’all, I need backup! I shared a hot take with the rest of the DFB team and found out that pretty much no one here agrees with me. But I know there’s gotta be SOMEONE out there who gets what I’m talking about and would take my side. I mean, everybody else hates these hotels too, right? Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort The matter of which Disney World hotel is the best is a hotly debated topic. Should you go value, moderate, or deluxe? Close to Magic Kingdom or EPCOT? Are you team Skyliner or Monorail? There are lots of different ways to approach your decision of where you’re going to stay the next time you visit The Most Magical Place on Earth, but if I were you, I’d cross three hotels off the list immediately!! So here’s my hot take: I think that most of the moderate-level hotels in Disney World are USELESS (except for ONE…which I’ll tell you about later on). I know that’s gonna prompt some angry responses, but give me just one second to explain where I’m coming from! First, a little background. Disney World hotels come in three different categories: value, moderate, and deluxe. Value hotels are the cheapest (of course) and generally offer the fewest perks. They don’t have incredible restaurants, and you can’t take the Monorail or walk to any of the parks from these hotels. However, you can stay at these hotels for a FRACTION of the price of a deluxe hotel, which is why you’ll almost always find me at Pop Century Resort when I visit Disney World. Pop Century Deluxe hotels are the most expensive but also have the most perks. They tend to be pretty fancy, have the best transportation options, and have some of the best restaurants in Disney World. Plus, you can take advantage of Extended Evening Hours if you’re staying at a deluxe hotel. (That means you get to stay past closing time in some parks on certain days!) Disney’s Grand Floridian Moderate resorts fall somewhere in the middle (as you might’ve guessed, based on the name ). But really they’re closer to the value level than the deluxe in terms of both price and perks. So here’s my beef with the moderate hotels: If I’m getting practically the same perks as I’d get at the value hotels, why would I pay the upcharge for moderate? Are Moderate Hotels at Disney World USELESS? Let’s Crunch the Numbers. We’re gonna deep dive now to find out if my take is actually justified. First, let’s check out how the prices of these hotels compare to value and deluxe. Then, we’ll analyze transportation and other perks and decide whether the upcharge is really worth it. Finally, I need to tell you the ONE exception to my rule of never staying at moderate hotels. Show Me the Money I compared hotel prices for two different weeks in 2024. First, I picked a random week in September, when prices are going to be comparatively low (since it’s not typically a busy time for Disney World). Then, I looked at the BUSIEST time, which is the week of Christmas to New Year’s. Note that I didn’t include prices for the Cabins at Fort Wilderness, mainly because the average price for those is $876/night, which is about double the cost of most moderate-level hotel rooms. These aren’t normal hotel rooms — they’re literally cabins — so I felt that their differences took them out of the equation. It’s a totally different way to experience Disney World! But those are another moderate-level option if you want to go that route. NEW Fort Wilderness Cabins! I did include the prices for Art of Animation Family Suites, which have a large living area with a pull-down bed and a couch that stores another pull-out bed, a kitchenette, a separate master bedroom area (that’s — count ’em — three full beds), and two bathrooms. These are GREAT (very roomy, and the two bathrooms is a huge bonus), but the extra space means they’re significantly more expensive than the other value hotel rooms. Because these rooms are so different from the normal value and moderate hotel rooms (in both size and price), I left them out of the averages. Finding Nemo Room For the week in September, here’s what I found: Value Hotels: All-Star Resorts — $213/night Pop Century — $230/night Art of Animation Standard Rooms — $270/night Art of Animation Family Suites — $574/night Average (excluding Art of Animation family suites): about $238/night Moderate Hotels: Port Orleans (Riverside and French Quarter cost about the same) — $332/night Coronado Springs — $306/night Caribbean Beach — $324/night Average: about $321/night So moderate hotels are, on average, about $83 more expensive per night than value hotels during a non-peak time. Not anything super crazy but definitely not nothin’. Deluxe Hotels (I just included a few here, though there are a lot more deluxe hotels to choose from): Riviera — $1,015/night Grand Floridian — $782/night Yacht Club — $720/night Clearly, moderate hotels are significantly cheaper than deluxe hotels, which frequently cost more than double the price of moderate hotels. Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort For the week of Christmas/New Years, here’s what I found: Value Hotels: All-Star — $274/night Pop Century — $355/night Art of Animation Standard Rooms — $374/night Art of Animation Family Suites — $808/night Average (excluding Art of Animation family suites): $334/night Moderate Hotels: Port Orleans — $465/night Coronado Springs — $426/night Caribbean Beach — $473/night Average: $455/night During peak times, the moderate hotels average about $121 more per night than value hotels. Deluxe Hotels (I just included a few here, though there are a lot more deluxe hotels to choose from) : Riviera — $1,203/night Grand Floridian — $1,224/night Yacht Club — $980/night Yikes. Disney’s Yacht Club In conclusion, I found that moderate hotel rooms were more expensive than even the priciest value hotel rooms (aside from those big Art of Animation family suites) every time. Though it wasn’t by an incredible amount (either $80 or $120 per night), that would certainly add up if you’re staying multiple nights. So is that $80-$120 upcharge actually worth it, or should you just go value? Let’s analyze the perks and transportation. Transportation First, can we just agree real quick that deluxe hotels have the best transportation? There are three deluxe hotels on the Monorail line, which gives you quick access to both Magic Kingdom and EPCOT. The Contemporary is literally a 10-minute walk from Magic Kingdom’s entrance. Wilderness Lodge has boat access to Magic Kingdom. EPCOT-area hotels like Yacht Club, Beach Club, and Boardwalk Inn are within walking distance of EPCOT, are close to the Skyliner station at EPCOT’s International Gateway, and have boat access to Hollywood Studios. EPCOT Monorail Riviera also has a Skyliner station, though this hotel might be the exception because I’ve had some bad experiences at that particular station. It’s located on the way from Caribbean Beach (the main Skyliner hub) to EPCOT, and sometimes the Cast Members forget to leave gondolas open, so they load them all up to capacity at the Caribbean Beach, which means if nobody gets off at Riviera, the guests waiting at Riviera to go to EPCOT have to just sit and wait for an available gondola. Sometimes that takes what feels like ages. Disney Skyliner Station at Disney’s Riviera Resort OK! So most deluxe hotels have pretty good (or amazing, in some cases) transportation options. What about value hotels? Buses Skyliner The All-Star hotels (which are the very cheapest) have pretty lame transportation. It’s just buses, and due to the hotels’ locations, the bus rides can be pretty long. However, I love the Skyliner station at Art of Animation and Pop Century. That gives you easy access to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, which is a huge bonus in my opinion. Other than that, the only option is buses. Skyliner Station I take every opportunity I can to shout out the transportation team at Pop Century. They’re CRUSHING IT. Seriously, I don’t know what they do differently, but when I stay there, I always feel like they’re so on top of things. Buses come quickly, the Cast Members are efficient and friendly, and I’ve never been left feeling frustrated with how long I have to wait. So a huge double thumbs up to those folks. Pop Century Resort Bus Moderate hotels are a bit of a mix when it comes to the variety of transportation available. Caribbean Beach has that main Skyliner hub, which is a great perk! The Port Orleans hotels also have boats that go between the hotels and Disney Springs, which is super fun and convenient. Coronado Springs just has buses and — like the All-Star hotels — is located pretty far from most parks, which means longer bus rides. The Bane of My Existence However, there’s one hotel transportation problem that is the bane of my existence, and the worst culprits are definitely the moderate hotels. Have you already guessed what it is? If you guessed internal bus loops, you are correct. And you probably — like me — have been burned by them before. Some Disney World hotels are so big that they can’t just have one bus stop. They need multiple stops throughout the resort because it’s too far for guests to all walk to a single stop. The problem with these loops is that they can mean longer bus rides, depending on where your room is on the loop. When you’re trying to make it to Magic Kingdom for rope drop, those loops and the resulting delays are incredibly annoying! Caribbean Beach bus stop Only a few hotels have these internal loops, but almost ALL of the moderate hotels have them. Caribbean Beach is the worst offender, with eight internal bus stops. EIGHT. Good grief. Coronado Springs is next, with five stops. Port Orleans — Riverside has three stops, and only Port Orleans — French Quarter escapes, with no internal bus loop. (Though we have to warn you that SOMETIMES Disney will make French Quarter and Riverside share buses, which means French Quarter gets pulled into that wretched internal loop. That usually only happens during very not-busy times, though.) The other hotels with internal bus loops include Saratoga Springs (with five stops) and Old Key West (also five stops), which are both deluxe hotels. Saratoga Springs is one resort that comes with a LOT of bus stops! So although I like the boats to Disney Springs at the Port Orleans Resorts and that Skyliner hub at Caribbean Beach is nice (as long as you get a room that’s close by — that hotel is super sprawled out!), the internal bus loop problem is enough for me to consider most of the moderate resorts as some of the worst for transportation. Let’s Talk PERKS Are there any other perks that make moderate resorts more valuable? The short answer is no. But I’ll go into the long answer, too, if you want. The Great Equalizer All Disney World hotel guests get to take advantage of Early Theme Park Entry, which means they can enter any of the four theme parks a half hour before other guests every day of the week. That’s available for guests at value, moderate, and deluxe hotels. Fancy Hours Extended Evening Hours are only available to people staying at deluxe hotels, and it means they get to stay late in select parks on certain days. Usually Extended Evening Hours take place on Mondays and Wednesdays and get guests an extra two hours in the park. Double-check the schedule before you go to make sure they’re happening during your trip! Animal Kingdom During Extended Evening Hours! So no extra perks for moderate guests yet. Just Keep Swimming One perk for Caribbean Beach guests that I have to mention is the pool! The Fuentes del Morro pool is a deluxe-level pool hiding in a moderate-level resort, and you’ll love it. Fuentes del Morro pool at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort Doubloon Lagoon pool at Port Orleans is another popular one! And actually I have to admit that Coronado Springs’ The Lost City of Cibola Pool is pretty dang cool, too. So yeah, the pools at moderate resorts are actually crushing it, I’ll give you that. Lost City of Cibola pool None of these pools holds a candle to Stormalong Bay at the Yacht and Beach Club resorts, but they’re probably a step up from the value resort pools (though people do love the Big Blue Pool at Art of Animation). AJ Made Me Add This Section So I showed this post to AJ and it was at this point that she started yelling at me about all the perks at Coronado Springs. To be totally honest, the bad transportation options at Coronado have been enough of a strike against it to make me pretty much count it out entirely. I’m all about getting to the parks ASAP, and the combination of being far away from most parks AND having an internal bus loop AND not having any boats or Skyliner makes this an automatic NO for me. But if transportation isn’t the most important thing to you — or if you’re driving your own car to Disney World so the free transportation is like “whatever, I’ll just get to the parks myself” — then you should know that AJ is in fact right and Coronado has some pretty sweet perks. Coronado Springs Really, in terms of both food and facilities, Coronado is sneakily a deluxe-level hotel at moderate-level prices. It’s got club-level rooms available, not one but TWO gyms (but seriously, who is going to the gym on their Disney World vacation? My only cardio is rope drop), a salon (just in case you break a nail while you’re there), and several sit-down restaurants. There aren’t ANY other value or moderate hotels that have a gym or a salon. Coronado Springs club-level room I think AJ is biased and just loves Dahlia Lounge so much that she can’t be reasonable about that dang internal bus loop, though. If We’re Gonna Call Ourselves DFB, We’ve Gotta Talk FOOD Let’s talk about the food! Value hotels have, almost without a doubt, the worst food options in Disney World. They each have a food court, and the food there can be decent, don’t get me wrong! But it’s not really super special or exciting. Food court at Art of Animation Deluxe hotels are home to some of the BEST food in Disney World. Jiko and Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge, ‘Ohana at the Polynesian, and Steakhouse 71 at the Contemporary are a few of my all-time favorite restaurants. The restaurants are more expensive, but the food there is 100% worth it. BUT no matter where you stay, you can go to those deluxe hotels and eat at the restaurants. (It is my dream, however, to eat my weight in noodles at ‘Ohana and then be able to just roll to my room at Polynesian rather than having to take the Monorail back to Magic Kingdom and then get on the bus from there to Pop Century.) ‘Ohana Moderate hotels have better food than the value hotels in my opinion, but I don’t usually go out of my way to eat there unless I’m actually staying there (which I rarely do). I DO have to give Coronado Springs its due here. This hotel has a BUNCH of restaurants, and they’re pretty much all leaps and bounds better than the value hotel food courts. Barcelona Lounge has specialty coffee and an artisanal cocktail bar, Cafe Rix is a great place to grab gelato, Maya Grill has Tex-Mex food in a grand setting (get the Margarita Flight here — trust us), Rix Sports Bar & Grill has some fun pub-style eats, Toledo — Tapas, Steak, and Seafood is a beautiful sit-down restaurant with equally fantastic food, and that’s not even all of them. Inside Toledo at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort Of course, we can’t forget AJ’s beloved Dahlia Lounge, which boasts upscale tapas, hand-selected wine, and incredible views. Check out all the Coronado Springs restaurants here! Another exception to the “moderate resort food is meh” rule is Port Orleans — French Quarter. In fact, I’d consider the French Quarter to be an exception overall to my “no moderate hotels” rule in general. The ONE Exception: Disney’s Port Orleans — French Quarter Port Orleans — French Quarter has Mickey beignets. I’d be lying if I said that wasn’t 90% of the reason why I love this hotel. If you haven’t tried these before, you need to book it to Scat Cat’s Club (either the lounge or the café, depending on what time of day you’re visiting) and pick some up ASAP. You can thank me later. We can’t resist a Mickey Beignet In addition, French Quarter does not commit the cardinal sin of an internal bus loop, which is another huge green flag for me (as long as Disney doesn’t make them share buses with Riviera, as mentioned in the transportation section). And finally, this hotel also has those boats to Disney Springs, which gets you quick access to even more great food, plus all the shops and entertainment available at Disney World’s shopping and dining district. Boat service to Disney Springs All of those perks together sometimes convince me to shell out the extra cash for either my whole trip or book a split stay and just stay at French Quarter for one or two nights. Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter I need to hear your opinion on this! Are you anti-moderate hotels, like me? Or do you think I’m totally wrong? I’d love to hear from you in the comments! Not gonna lie – I have waited in my fair share of lines in Disney World. Very vivid memories take up space rent-free in my brain of waiting for 3 hours in the hot, Spring Break sun for Journey Into Imagination back before they had an indoor queue. (Today’s Disney fans would never!) So I feel like I’ve earned the chance to say…I DON’T WANNA WAIT IN ANY MORE LINES! Toy Story Mania queue That’s right. I officially have zero patience for it anymore. And, luckily, I have a whoooole bunch of tricks and sneaky tips that are my go-to when I’m in Disney World. And, get ready – ‘cause I’m about to share ‘em all with you! Why Long Lines Are Giant Bummers Just gonna remind you real quickly (or bestow the truth upon those of you who perhaps haven’t been to Disney World before) why loooong queue lines are such giant bummers. Backed up Peter Pan’s Flight Lightning Lane First of all: you’re literally wasting money. Time is money in Disney World, y’all. You only have so many hours there, and you likely paid thousands and thousands of dollars for this vacation. So any minute you spend not doing something awesome is a minute and a dollar wasted. Long queue lines = wasted time and dollars. Secondly: It’s super boring! Yes, you can use that time to do all kinds of good multi-tasking things, like book your next Lightning Lane, put in your mobile order for lunch, answer a few emails on your phone. But two hours is a long time, y’all! Finally: It can really add to the exhaustion. At Disney World, you’re already sleeping less (probably), overstimulated, eating a bunch of sugar and junk your body isn’t used to, and highly anxious about a zillion things you don’t usually have to worry about (wait, what time is that dining reservation and does it coincide with our Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Lightning Lane?!?). So standing in the sun for a couple of hours just…waiting…could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back when it comes to your family’s mood. Don’t let your family get grumpy! Luckily, I’ve got TONS of tips for ya to avoid the lines like I do! Some require some pre-planning, and some might cost more cash (remember: time is money), but all of them will help you out. Big time. How to Skip to the Front of the Line (If You’re Willing to Pay) This one will cost you, but it’s probably the best way to GUARANTEE shorter ride lines in Disney World, no matter what. Disney Genie+ Disney Genie+ is a pre-paid, line-skipping service that allows you to bypass attraction standby lines and get in a shorter line of just Genie+ customers. It costs between $15-$39 per day, per person; but on very busy days when those lines are pushing two hours for all the heavy hitter rides, it’s more than worth it. Attraction Sign at Animal Kingdom directing Guests to Standby Line and Lightning Lane Entrances BONUS TIP: We usually find that Genie+ is a good buy for Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios since they have a glut of rides; but usually – unless you’re there on the busiest days of the year – you can skip buying it for EPCOT and Disney’s Animal Kingdom and just use our other tactics for those. ©Disney Individual Lightning Lanes Also on the Genie train are Individual Lightning Lanes (ILL). While over 40 attractions and rides are included in the standard Genie+ purchase, the most popular rides in Disney World ARE NOT! (What?!? I know right?!) To ride those premium attractions with a shorter wait, you’ll need to purchase an ILL – which is a per person, per ride-through price. Usually these range from $10-25 each, and apply to rides like Rise of the Resistance in Hollywood Studios, TRON Lightcycle / Run in Magic Kingdom, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT, and Flight of Passage in Animal Kingdom. Cosmic Rewind After Hours Events One more way to pay for access to shorter waits is purchasing a ticket to an After Hours event. Disney’s After Hours are separate-ticketed events that happen at select parks on select nights and allow event guests to hang out in the parks THREE hours past general closing time. These events boast drastically reduced crowds, rare character appearances, way shorter ride lines, and complimentary snacks too! PLUS, after hours guests are also allowed to enter the parks 2-3 hours BEFORE the event kicks off — even without a regular park day ticket — for a pre-party mix-in (which means you won’t have to miss out on the nighttime spectacular)! EPCOT After Hours Timing is Everything OK, time to get into the “free” ways to avoid the lines. Go To Disney World When It’s Less Crowded First up: the WHEN! If you want to avoid long lines without breaking the bank, head to Disney World when nobody else is there. The busiest times for Disney World are holidays (including those sneaky three-day weekends!), school breaks, and weekends. If you can swing a trip in late August or September, when everyone is headed back to school, you’ll find one of the last remaining “slow times” in Disney World! Some days may feel downright LONELY! (Oh, and the OTHER good news about visiting during these times? It’s also cheaper when it comes to park tickets and hotels!) empty Hollywood Studios Wake Up For Rope Drop And in addition to when you take your trip, pay attention to when you actually go to the parks. Another tried-and-true tactic is – yep, you were waiting for this one! – hitting the parks in time for “rope drop.” Rope drop refers to when the parks open. Back in the day (and sometimes still – especially on busy days), Cast Members would literally hold a rope across the entrance to individual sections of the park. At “rope drop,” they drop the rope and everyone heads in (NO RUNNING!). Yep, that’s us! Sometimes, rope drop happens about 15-30 minutes before the park officially opens (not always, but sometimes); so aim to be at the park of your choosing about 30 minutes before it’s official posted opening time. If you can drag yourself out of bed and be among the first guests through the turnstiles, you’ll have a major head start on the crowds. Imagine walking on to Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in Magic Kingdom with barely any wait? It’s a Disney miracle! Just be sure to have your coffee at the ready. Get your coffee when you’re rope dropping a park! Don’t Fall For The “Fake” Long Lines This is one of my favorite tips for avoiding long wait times, and people don’t really talk about it very much. So heads up! Some rides in Disney World should NOT have long waits (e.g. waits over 30 minutes). Just as a general rule. These are the rides that aren’t as popular (e.g. shows like Hall of Presidents and Carousel of Progress in Magic Kingdom, or super-fun and adorable rides that I can’t understand why they’re not popular but alas like Living With the Land in EPCOT, etc), or rides that load so quickly that Cast Members can get a lot of guests through lickity-split (these are usually omnimover rides like Haunted Mansion and Spaceship Earth). If you see long waits posted for rides that usually have low wait times, then just skip those for now and come back later. The wait time will go down unless you’re there on, like, Christmas. Living with the Land To get a good idea for which rides these are, download the My Disney Experience app a few weeks before you go to Disney World and keep an eye on the wait times list. You’ll quickly get an idea of which rides always fall under that 30 minute wait, and which ones verge on 60 minutes or more all day. Ride Wait Times on My Disney Experience App Along the same lines, be wary of the “artificially increased” wait times for some rides. Nope, I’m not claiming that Disney falsifies their posted ride wait times (though that CAN happen). But there are some circumstances that make rides that usually have low wait times into uber-popular attractions all of a sudden! For example, as soon as that parade passes through Liberty Square in Magic Kingdom, everyone and their grandma is gonna go get in line for Haunted Mansion. Suddenly that wait time will swell, and you don’t want to be in the middle of that! Haunted Mansion line The same happens when two rides are next to each other and one shuts down for some reason – whether it’s an electrical problem or it’s an outdoor ride and a storm is coming through. Its next-door neighbor may suddenly take on everyone who was in the line for the other ride, doubling the wait time. A good example of this one? The first time Tiana’s Bayou Adventure shuts down unexpectedly in Magic Kingdom, keep an eye on the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad wait time! Spaceship Earth line My final example of this – which I love talking about – is the Spaceship Earth madhouse that happens when EPCOT opens each morning. Spaceship Earth is the first ride everyone sees, and it’s the icon of the park, so everyone immediately gets in line first thing. But not YOU, dear reader. Not you. You’re gonna bypass SSE and head directly to Frozen Ever After, or Test Track, or Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and ride with no line while everyone else is waiting forever to hear Dame Judy Dench take them through the history of communication. Spaceship Earth’s wait time will be almost nil by the afternoon. Head there on your way out instead. Sneaky Ways To Shave Time Off Your Wait Now, not all of us can visit Disney World when it’s empty. There’s a reason why everyone goes during school breaks and holidays, right? So if you need to visit during a busier time, here are a few tactics to make sure you’re not waiting too long for rides. Single Rider Lines Single Rider Lines can be a helpful tool to cut down your waits, but there are pros and cons. These are a totally free option that allows you to bypass the regular queue by – you guessed it – ditching your compadres and riding alone. Your group can wait in the line together, but you will be split up to fill in empty seats. This is a great option usually for Expedition Everest in Animal Kingdom, and will often shorten your wait for Test Track in EPCOT. Occasionally you can even use it for Rock-n-Roller Coaster in Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Soarin’ in EPCOT. But if you have kids in your group, it’s probably a no-go. Lightning Lane Entrance Early Theme Park Entry and Extended Evening Hours Also, don’t forget that staying at Disney-owned hotels, and some good-neighbor hotels, also gives you access to Early Theme Park Entry. This allows you to enter any park 30 minutes before opening. So take that rope drop recommendation and add to it being able to be in the park for 30 minutes before anyone else gets access! You can knock out all of Fantasyland before the park even opens! Early Entry Along the same lines, guests staying at Deluxe Disney resorts have access to Extended Evening Hours. This gives you up to 2 extra hours in select parks on certain nights. Just flash your room key and head in for an evening of very low wait times. The big drawback? You’re spending a bunch to stay in a Deluxe Disney resort. The Last Ditch Effort Now, as a last ditch effort to avoid ride lines – and this is only for those of you who are super dedicated to sailing past the standby lines – you can book a Disney World VIP Tour. Through Disney World signature services, you can book a private tour guide to escort you around the parks, drive you around backstage, and give you front-of-the-line access to most Disney World rides and attractions. Sounds great, right? But it’s our last resort for a reason. These tours cost $450+ per hour (that $450 price point is for the very least crowded days), and have a 7-hour minimum. So, yeah. You’re shelling out thousands for this perk, and it can still be tough to ride everything you want to ride…even if you have a whole day of front-of-the-line access. VIP Tour Guides That said, you can have 10 people on a Disney World VIP tour. So if you have a couple of families who want to share a guide for the day and split the cost, it can be a useful thing…especially on Disney World’s busiest days. Magic Kingdom So there we go – a whole bunch of guaranteed ways to minimize your lines in Disney World! By taking advantage of paid services, visiting at off-peak times, and using line-skipping shortcuts, you can spend less time waiting and more time having a blast. Hey, y’all. We’re sorry we have to bring you this sad Magic Kingdom news. Cinderella Castle It’s official — one of our favorite ways to get on Magic Kingdom‘s most popular rides without waiting in line is now SOLD OUT. Disney World hosts special events throughout the year called Disney After Hours. In 2024, these have been offered at Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and EPCOT. Now, however, all of the 2024 dates for Magic Kingdom After Hours events are completely SOLD OUT. ©Disney This year, the Magic Kingdom After Hours events took place on select nights between January 11th and June 27th. It’s possible that Disney will announce more 2024 dates, but they likely won’t because Magic Kingdom is hosting Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party on select nights starting in August. EMPTY! After Hours events have limited capacity, which means guests get to hop on those popular rides with little to no wait. After Hours map Rides that were open during the Magic Kingdom event include the following: Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Haunted Mansion “it’s a small world” Jungle Cruise Peter Pan’s Flight Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Space Mountain The Magic Carpets of Aladdin Pirates of the Caribbean Swiss Family Treehouse Enchanted Tiki Room Country Bear Jamboree The Barnstormer Dumbo The Flying Elephant Mad Tea Party The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh Mickey’s Philharmagic Prince Charming’s Regal Carrousel Under The Sea — Journey of The Little Mermaid Astro Orbiter Tomorrowland Speedway PeopleMover TRON Lightcycle / Run There was also an exclusive fireworks show (Enchantment!) and complimentary snacks, including ice cream, popcorn, and bottled drinks. Mickey Premium Bar If you’re disappointed to miss this year’s Magic Kingdom After Hours event, you can still get a ticket to After Hours in Hollywood Studios or EPCOT! Note that these are extra-ticketed events, meaning you have to buy the After Hours ticket separately from the park ticket. ©Disney At time of writing, Hollywood Studios has available After Hours dates on May 29th; June 12th, 19th, and 26th; July 10th, 17th, 24th, and 31st; and August 7th, 14th, 21st, and 29th. EPCOT has available dates on May 30th, June 6th and 20th, and July 18th. Hi, Mickey! Since this option to skip the long waits in Magic Kingdom is now unavailable, you might want to consider purchasing Disney Genie+ on your next visit. Genie+ allows you to make Lightning Lane reservations throughout the day, which means you get to skip the standby lines for those rides. Note that some of the most popular rides are not included with Genie+ and instead have Individual Lightning Lanes, which can be purchased a la carte. Ah, the Choco Taco. It’s the stuff of childhood, neighborhood ice cream truck nostalgia. ©FoodBeast The Choco Taco is (according to it’s label) a “Dessert Taco! It’s Genius!” After disappearing from ice cream trucks and grocery shelves in 2022, the Choco Taco is back in 2024 at some Taco Bell restaurants. Which is, also, genius. Now a brand-new restaurant in Downtown Disney has introduced a fancy, grown-up “Choco Taco,” and, well, you just know we were gonna try it for ya! Tiendita is the NEW quick-service restaurant in Downtown Disney from Michelin Starred Chef Carlos Guytan. Tiendita The restaurant opened in late April, and we have enjoyed the tacos, nachos, and ceviche we’ve tried there. Tiendita full spread But now we’re back to try a dessert — the Ice Cream Taco. Ice Cream Taco from Tiendita Yep. It looks like a Choco Taco — but it’s been taken up a notch. Or SEVERAL notches, actually. First up, that’s a chocolate-covered waffle rolled like a taco. But inside, rather than the vanilla ice cream you might be expecting, there is salted caramel banana ice cream — looks like we’ve got a little Bananas Foster-flavored action happening. Ice Cream Taco from Tiendita All of these flavors worked really well to make for a higher quality version of the classic Choco Taco. The waffle was sweet and fresh with a layer of rich chocolate on the inside as well as on top of the waffle/taco. The salted caramel banana ice cream was absolutely our favorite part. It added hints of salted caramel which went perfectly with the chocolatey flavors, while the banana flavor was so fresh and natural. There’s just one thing wrong with this dessert…it’s gonna melt on you! Yeah, it’s a tad messy. So keep in mind that you’ll want to eat this Ice Cream Taco quickly, because we are still mourning all those drops of that delicious salted caramel banana ice cream that were lost to the California heat. Ice Cream Taco This dessert cost $8, and we felt like it was a great value for the quality of dessert we got. We love that this fancy dessert is available at a pick-up window in Downtown Disney, so that we can go back again and again for this treat without having to have a reservation. Whoever popularized the phrase “you can’t have your cake and eat it too” clearly never tried the crepes from the France pavilion in EPCOT at Disney World. Our full meal! There’s so much to explore in the France pavilion between a royal meet and greet with a Disney princess, some of our favorite dessert and quick service food spots, and one of EPCOT’s most popular rides. But, even with all of that, you can STILL want (and get) more than you ever thought possible! If you’ve ever found yourself headed back through the France pavilion on a mission to ride Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, chances are you’ve glanced over and seen a line waiting patiently for crepes on your way to and from the ride. Who’s headed back to ride Remy’s? On a recent trip out to EPCOT, we just couldn’t resist stopping anymore and decided to hop in line and try out a few of their menu offerings! Atmosphere What you see is what you get with this restaurant, quite literally! It’s built as a smaller offering just off from its neighboring La Creperie de Paris which is a more extensive dining experience indoors. Crepes A Emporter Crepes A Emporter at La Creperie de Paris is a permanent snack stand restaurant built to serve its patrons at the next window after you’ve placed your order. The closest tables to sit and enjoy your meal will be found in a very small alcove at the front of the Ratatouille expansion or entrance of the France pavilion of EPCOT. Menu The menu here isn’t terribly extensive, but it doesn’t have to be to draw the crowd. This popular snack stop serves everything from savory and sweet crepe options… Menu … to ice cream for dessert, hard ciders, sparking drinks, wines, and a few soft drinks with water as an alternative. Drink Let’s start things off with what we ordered to drink. After browsing the menu, we settled on ordering the Cidre Doux for $6.75. Cidre Doux This was definitely a sweeter cider and quick to lose its fizz after it sat out in the open for a little bit. This one is best enjoyed fresh from the pour but tastes like sparkling apple juice. It was sweet with just a little acidity, to it making it a great choice if you’re looking for an alcoholic drink that doesn’t have a hard flavor behind it. Eats Then it was time to move on to our meal. We actually ordered three different crepes to try out this visit — the Cream of Brie Cheese Galette, the Butter & Sugar Crepe, and the Housemade Hazelnut & Chocolate Spread Crepe. Our full meal! Speaking of the Cream of Brie Cheese Galette first, this beauty has such a beautiful presence about it and cost us $11.95. Cream of Brie Cheese Galette This was probably the most interesting of the bunch. Nothing about this dish is sweet, but you get a tangy taste to your bite when you get some of the brie cheese on the inside. Cross section For a savory option, this delivers well and doesn’t make you super full. (It also paired really well as a savory option with the sweetness of the cider)! Cheese! This it was time to try out the Butter & Sugar Crepe. This one cost us $6.95. Butter & Sugar Crepe This one tasted like a very thin, sweet pancake with several layers to it. The extra sugar that’s coated on top crumbles in your mouth like sugar cubes used in tea. Cross section of the crepe We absolutely loved how everything seemed to work well together for this crepe but it’s definitely a lot of sweet so we could see some folks finding this one to a sweetness overload. Looks like a thin multilayered pancake Finally, we were able to focus all our attention on the Housemade Hazelnut & Chocolate Spread Crepe which cost just $8.95. Housemade Hazelnut & Chocolate Spread Crepe This was another sweet crepe option but it definitely shares the flavor spotlight with the housemade hazelnut spread. All the hazelnut drizzle! The hazelnut mimics a milk chocolate consistency but you’ll instantly taste that it’s not milk chocolate but rather a distinct hazelnut flavor. We enjoyed this crepe very much, but it’s also worth noting that it was the messiest of all that we tried out this visit. So sweet! Since we were good and saved room for dessert, we decided to pick up a Soft Serve Ice Cream in a Waffle Cone for $6.95. Here you’ll be able to choose from chocolate, vanilla, or a swirl of the two flavors so we decided to grab the swirl this time. Soft Serve Ice Cream in a Waffle Cone HOLY COW! This soft serve may have been the fastest ice cream to melt ever! We’re not sure if it was the flavor or just the temperature of the soft serve when it was served but literally within seconds this one was a melted mess right before our eyes. Too melty! Eventually, we opted to clean up a bit of the mess with a spoon and try to finish it as fast as we could. In terms of flavor, it “served” as good as any other soft serve ice cream in Disney where we got a healthy mix of the crisp vanilla flavor mixed in with the light chocolatey taste of the other side of the swirled soft serve. Overall Overall we really enjoyed our crepe meal and could totally see ourselves getting everything we ate today all over again! That was a great meal It’s always a good thing when we’re able to find a reliable place to grab a quick snack so to add this restaurant to our list of trusted locations really speaks volumes for its quality. Nosh or Not? You should grab food here if… You’re looking for something that’s totally grab-and-go. There’s no seating here for this restaurant so if grabbing a snack and heading out is for you, this would be perfect! You’re looking for something shareable! These crepes are plenty to be enjoyed between two people and ideal for those looking to stretch their budget. You’re looking for a sweet snack. Most of the crepes here will be a sweeter option so if that’s what you’re craving you may find it curbed easily by stopping by. You’ll probably want to stop somewhere else if… You want to take your food and sit down to eat. There’s absolutely no seating for this restaurant and that tends to shock people so if you’re looking to sit and enjoy your meal you’ll be walking a distance away to find a table to sit and eat. You’re looking for more French cuisine. This restaurant is truly meant to be a limited crepe stand with a few pairing options. If you’re looking for something more extensive, try the restaurant right next door! You’re in the mood for savory over sweet. While there are a few savory options here, there are only so many when it comes to variety. Most of the menu items here will be sweet (even down to the drinks)! You spend a LOT of time planning your Disney World trip, and often Disney World food is a big part of that (which is probably why you’re reading this!). You may have even planned a day around a reservation at a certain restaurant, or a hop to a park at just the right time for a special snack. Strawberry Dole Whip with Orange Fanta Float But sometimes things don’t always go as planned. A lot of disappointment can happen when you’ve spent a lot of time planning your trip and maybe you find out that a menu item you had been dreaming of ordering is no longer there. Disney World menus change on the daily, which is SUPER frustrating for us and for you! We try our best to keep our posts updated with the latest menu changes, but sometimes they slip past us for a day or two. Here’s what we do to try and verify menus in Disney World without being there in person. Don’t Trust The Disney World App or Website For Independently Owned-Restaurants Some restaurants in Disney World aren’t owned directly by Disney. This is especially the case for restaurants in EPCOT’s World Showcase, Disney Springs, and some Disney World Hotels. Yak & Yeti We spoke to a Cast Member at The Basket at Wine Bar George in Disney Springs who informed us that there have been times where new items are added to the restaurant’s menu, but the Disney World website/app doesn’t show them for WEEKS after they’ve been added! The Basket So how can you combat this? Find the restaurant’s website online (that’s NOT connected to Disney) and check out their menus listed there. Or, you can call the restaurant directly to verify if an item is or isn’t on their menu. Seasonal Menus Some signature restaurants at Disney World have menus that change with the seasons. You can expect this at restaurants like Citricos, Topolino’s Terrace, and Hollywood Brown Derby, just to name a few. Citricos To see what menu is currently being served, you can keep up with our posts here on DFB, but you can also check out the restaurant pages our friends at AllEars.net create and keep updated! To be 100% prepared, you can call the restaurant, or take a look at their different menus and have a second choice at the ready. Disney Dining Plan Confusion We know that a lot of you plan your meals especially when you are using the Disney Dining Plan, and some restaurants have confusing rules about it. Look for that Disney Dining Plan Snack symbol! We were recently surprised at Chicken Guy when we discovered that you can get chicken tenders and a soft drink or milk shake as a dining plan meal, but the combo meals there aren’t included – you have to buy your fries separately. Chicken Guy We had a reader send in a question about whether a half-liter of beer in Biergarten can be ordered on the dining plan. We chatted with Disney Guest Services and got a confusing answer, so we physically went to Biergarten and tracked down the answer for our reader. (Yes, a half liter of beer can be ordered on the dining plan, but a full liter cannot). Biergarten The good news is that we let you know IMMEDIATELY when we find strange stuff like this, so keep an eye out for DFB posts, or you can get our Disney Dining Plan guide to really help you learn the ins and outs of what’s included. Here’s how to maximize your Disney Dining Plan credits! Unexpected Changes Just like everywhere else, sometimes menus change unexpectedly. Ale & Compass Menu We’ve had the experience of a fryer being broken at Topolino’s Terrace and us not being able to order our beloved Vegetable Fritto Misto because of it. We’ve been told by Cast Members that the Rib Eye Beef Puff at Baseline Tap House is off the menu because of an issue with the oven needed to prepare it. Loaded Burnt Ends Fries at Regal Eagle Smokehouse were on the menu because it was a way to use up brisket trimmings, and now, they’ve gotten more efficient at how much brisket to make, and they aren’t being served every day. The list goes on, and on, and on! Topolino’s Terrace Unfortunately, there really isn’t a great way to solve this issue, but if you’re looking to order a certain thing, ask the Cast Member before you sit down at a restaurant if it’s being served that day. And again, it’s good to have a Plan B in mind just in case your first option isn’t available. Being flexible can be hard, but it’s important! S’mores Brownie at Regal Eagle We’re always here to keep you updated on the latest Disney World news as fast as we get it, so stay tuned to DFB for all the latest menu news and beyond! Something new is coming to the American Adventure Pavilion in EPCOT, which means that part of the EPCOT World Showcase pavilion will soon be closing. American Adventure Pavilion The American Heritage Gallery inside of the American Adventure Pavilion will be welcoming a new collection soon, but that means part of this pavilion will have to close in order for Disney to prepare. We’re sharing all the details you need to know so you’re not caught off guard by this closure! The American Heritage Gallery inside of the American Adventure Pavilion will be welcoming a new collection. The Disney World website shows that the American Heritage Gallery will be closed for refurbishment beginning May 28th, 2024! Disney World previously announced that a new exhibit will be coming to the American Heritage Gallery, which will feature 60 oil paintings by President George W. Bush. The paintings feature service members and veterans who have served since 9/11 that the President has gotten to know personally. The collection Is called Portraits of Courage: A Commander in Chief’s Tribute to America’s Warriors. ©Disney Based on the operating times, it looks like the American Heritage Gallery will be closed from May 28th through June 6th. The website currently lists operating hours beginning on June 7th, although the exhibit is planned to have its grand opening on June 9th. Visitors may be able to view the paintings early, beginning June 7th (ahead of the grand opening), but we will keep an eye on the times as we get closer and see what announcements Disney World makes. ©Disney EPCOT has been going through quite a few changes and it’s all part of the EPCOT Transformation. The entire transformation will be complete when CommuniCore Hall and CommuniCore Plaza open on June 10th. If you haven’t visited EPCOT since all these changes, you have a lot to look forward to, including a new fountain in front of Spaceship Earth and some impressive new nighttime lighting on Spaceship Earth. We even got a new quick service and Starbucks location with Connections Cafe and Eatery. The Japan pavilion got a new table service restaurant, Shiki-Sai: Sushi Izakaya. You can also have a meal in space at Space 220, now. CommuniCore Hall EPCOT also got a new nighttime show, Luminous: Symphony of Us, which replaced Disney World’s 50th Anniversary show, Harmonious. Disney is making a splash with its new event set to celebrate one of its iconic films next month! Journey of the Little Mermaid The Little Mermaid has captivated hearts for years since its release on November 17th, 1989. Adults and kids of all ages have watched Ariel on screen, captivated by her journey and wishing that they could be part of her world. The story and the beloved songs that accompany it have solidified this film as a Disney classic. Now to celebrate the 35th anniversary, Disney is hosting a different kind of screening for the film: a “swim-in screening”! On June 8th, 2024, D23 (The Official Disney Fan Club) & Street Food Cinema are presenting a screening of the film inside Hansen Dam Aquatic Center in Los Angeles. This new presentation will allow guests to channel their inner “little mermaid’ by “flipping their fins” in the country’s largest pool (it can fit 3,000 swimmers at once!). The event will also feature food trucks and snack stands, a special pre-screening presentation, and a commemorative event gift. The Little Mermaid 35th Anniversary Celebration Tickets are available for D23 members for $35 (+$5 Processing Fee) as well as general tickets available for $41 (+$5 Processing Fee). Tickets for this event can be purchased by D23 members who are allowed to reserve tickets for themselves and up to 5 guests. Important to note that members who purchased the tickets must be present with their physical or digital D23 membership card at the time of redemption, or guests will not be admitted to the event. Children under 5 years old do not require a ticket to attend, however, only guests with D23 tickets are eligible to receive the commemorative event gift. The film begins at 8PM PT. But D23 Members get early entry to the Hansen Dam Aquatic Center starting at 5PM PT, and will also enjoy exclusive beach access and premium seating near the movie screen. ©D23 D23 (the name referring to Disney and the year 1923, when Walt Disney founded the company) is The Official Disney Fan Club that offers its members various benefits, including exclusive events, merchandise, and publications. For more information or to sign up to become a member, check out the official D23 website. Disney has parks and other destinations all over the world! World of Frozen in Hong Kong Disneyland Disney Cruise Line takes travelers to several destinations or you can hop on a flight to one of the several international parks. You might want to visit places like Paris, Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong, or The Bahamas. Each offers fun and exciting Disney vacation opportunities. However, there are a couple of these destinations that currently have travel advisories to be aware of while you’re traveling. Disney ensures that you have a safe trip when you are at their destinations. But to arrive at the parks, you must go through the country and cities the parks are in. And in the case of cruise line destinations, you may have access to other experiences that aren’t controlled by Disney. So it’s always a good idea to be well prepared about the area you are planning to visit. ©Disney Currently, The Bahamas are at a Level 2 Travel Advisory which indicates travelers should exercise increased caution. This does not mean you cannot go to The Bahamas, it simply means that you should understand that something has happened in that country that increases the threat to tourists. In the case of The Bahamas, there is a level 2 advisory due to crime in the area. ©US Department of State Along with The Bahamas, China also has an increased level of advisory. In Hong Kong, there is a Level 2 Threat Advisory, while in mainland China (where Shanghai is) there is a Level 3 Threat Advisory (Reconsider Travel). ©US Department of State If you’re traveling to The Bahamas, the U.S. Department of State recommends following these precautions: Do not answer your door at your hotel/residence unless you know who it is. Do not physically resist any robbery attempt. Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive Alerts and make it easier to locate you in an emergency. Follow the Department of State on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Review the Country Security Report for The Bahamas. Prepare a contingency plan for emergency and medical situations. Review the Traveler’s Checklist. Visit the CDC page for the latest Travel Health Information related to your travel. ©Disney If you’re traveling to Hong Kong, the U.S. Department of State recommends following these precautions: Enter the Hong Kong SAR on your U.S. passport and keep it with you. Read the travel information page for the Hong Kong SAR. Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive alerts and make it easier to locate you in an emergency. Be aware of your surroundings. Avoid demonstrations. Exercise caution in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests. Avoid taking photographs of protesters or police without permission. Keep a low profile. If you are arrested or detained, ask police or prison officials to notify U.S. Consulate General Hong Kong & Macau immediately. Visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) page for the latest Travel Health Information related to the Hong Kong SAR. Prepare a contingency plan for emergency situations. Review the Traveler’s Checklist. Monitor local media, local transportation sites, and apps like MTR Mobile or Citybus for updates. World of Frozen in Hong Kong If you’re traveling to mainland China, the U.S. Department of State recommends following these precautions: Enter the PRC on your U.S. passport with a valid PRC visa and keep it with you. Read the travel information page for Mainland China. Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive alerts and make it easier to locate you in an emergency. Avoid demonstrations. Exercise caution in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests. Avoid taking photographs of protesters or police without permission. Keep a low profile. If you are arrested or detained, ask police or prison officials to notify U.S. Embassy Beijing or the nearest U.S. Consulate General immediately. Visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) page for the latest Travel Health Information related to the PRC. Prepare a contingency plan for emergency situations. Review the Traveler’s Checklist. There are many reasons why the U.S. may impose a travel advisory for countries. If you plan on traveling internationally soon, we recommend taking some time to review travel information pertaining to your destination. Even if a location is deemed safe, taking precautions is always a good idea. But remember, while at a Disney destination, your safety is paramount! Are these new Marvel-themed foods super? Pym Test Kitchen On a recent trip to Disneyland, we popped into Pym’s Test Kitchen – the Avengers Campus-based eatery themed around the titular character from the Ant-Man films known for interesting snacks with some wild proportions – to try out the two latest dishes on the menu: The Reactor Melt and the Pepper Particle Pasta. Disney’s describes Pym’s Test Kitchen as an “old lab facility-turned-quick-service restaurant features a seating area and bar amidst décor that incorporates remnants of ongoing experiments—gigantic soda cans, humungous condiment bottles and massive cellphones recycled into menu boards.” Pym’s Test Kitchen Reactor Melt – $14.69 First up, we tried the Reactor Melt. This dish is a Garlic Pesto Toasted Sourdough with Mozzarella, Basil and Tomato, served with Potato Bites, and provides a pretty good value for its price point. Reactor Melt For the most part, we enjoyed it, with some caveats. The bread was nicely toasted with a good crunch, yet didn’t have a burnt flavor, instead featuring a garlic and pesto aftertaste. The tomato and basil both added fresh flavors that complemented the rest of the sandwich, however they overpowered the mozzarella bit. In fact, we’d say that the closest thing thing to complaint about the sandwich we have is that there could have been more cheese overall. The potato tots on the side were warm and crispy, however we found them a bit oily and greasy, to the point that we couldn’t eat too many. We’d definitely recommend the Reactor Melt if you’re craving an entrée on the lighter side, especially if you enjoy grilled cheese. That said, probably avoid if you’re not a fan of garlic and pesto flavors. Pepper Particle Pasta – $14.49 Next, we gave the Pepper Particle Pasta a try. Made up of Campanelli Pasta topped with Grilled Chicken, Spicy Tomato Cream Sauce, Chimichurri and Parmesan, this pasta dish definitely gives bang for your buck as far as portion-size is concerned. Pepper Particle Pasta We really like this dish. The chicken was grilled nicely and had a fresh herby flavor. The sauce had a light texture for a cream sauce, with a creamy peppery flavor featuring hints of tomato. The chimichurri was slightly spicy, but refreshing at the same time balanced by the light, cheesy flavor of the parmesan. Overall, we’d say this was a great dish. There was a lot of chicken and a generous pasta portion. All of the flavors came together to make a spicy, cheesy, and creamy dish. We’d definitely recommend to anyone looking for a solid pasta offering at California Adventure. That said, maybe avoid if you’re not a fan of spicy or creamy flavors. Gotta have that Marvel Easter Egg Overall, we really enjoyed both of these new offerings at Pym’s Test Kitchen, and look forward to trying both again next time we’re having a bite in that corner of the Happiest Place on Earth. Is there a Disney World hotel that is your favorite? It’s the one hotel you stay at every time you go to Disney World, and you’ve started to think about it as your home away from home. Pop Century Resort There are many hotels to choose from in Disney World. You can pick from Value, Moderate, or Deluxe resorts, each categorized by price. Each hotel is unique in its own way, but all offer special perks including transportation, cool Disney theming, and extra time in the parks in some capacity (all hotel guests can take advantage of Early Entry days, while Deluxe hotel guests also get Extended Evening hours on select nights). Even though every hotel can be a great option for people visiting Disney World, we’ve started to notice something about Disney’s Value resorts, and it’s really hard for us to talk about because it’s unfair in so many ways. Disney’s Value resorts make up the lowest tier of hotels in Disney World. They offer the lowest prices per night, typically only have one main food court, and all of them offer larger-than-life themes. We’ll probably never get over the massive basketball hoops at Disney’s All-Star Sports, Ursula at Art of Animation, or the giant yo-yo at Pop Century. Ursula at Art of Animation Each of the All-Star hotels (Sports, Movies, Music), Pop Century, and Art of Animation are the Value resorts that you can stay at while you’re in Disney World. Honestly, we really enjoy these hotels! Their affordable pricing is great and the rooms are nice. Plus, Pop Century and Art of Animation are right at a Skyliner station, making getting to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and EPCOT even easier. Art of Animation even offers suites that can fit up to six people, some of the largest rooms in Disney World. Football courtyard at All-Star Sports Now that we’ve told you all these great things about the Value resorts you’re probably wondering what it is that we don’t want to admit to. Well, here’s the thing. We’re afraid that Disney’s Value resorts are starting to fall off the radar. Disney has been putting in a lot of effort in refurbishing, re-theming, and even expanding its Deluxe resorts, but almost no effort has been put into the Value resorts. Yes, some of the rooms at the Value resorts have been updated, but nothing as big as what’s happening at the Deluxe resorts. Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort The All-Star resorts each got room updates over the past few years, but the biggest changes were that two queen beds and Murphy beds were added to the rooms. However, Disney has been updating many of their hotel rooms to add Murphy beds recently, so this is not exclusive to the Value resorts. On the other hand, Disney’s Boardwalk Hotel received huge room AND lobby updates. Several other Deluxe hotels also received lobby updates including Disney’s Beach Club and Disney’s Grand Floridian hotels. Disney’s BoardWalk Inn Lobby Speaking of the Grand Floridian Resort, it is in the middle of a huge renovation. Disney’s Polynesian Resort is getting a major expansion with the new Disney Vacation Club tower currently being built. And Disney’s Contemporary and Polynesian Resorts have received full IP (Intellectual Property) makeovers, giving them Disney themes based on movies (Incredibles and Moana respectively). The refurbished Guest Rooms at the Polynesian Village Resort feature ‘Moana’ details. Of course, we’re not mad about seeing Disney giving any of their hotels some love and upkeep. We are just surprised that the Value resorts (and even the Moderate resorts) aren’t receiving the same kind of treatment since they are more affordable options for people coming to visit. Perhaps more updates are to come in the future for the hotels. Even if they aren’t getting special attention from Disney, we hope you continue to enjoy the Value resorts because they are great options! Check out our video below to learn everything you need to know about Disney’s Value resorts! For more Disney news, keep following DFB! Can you believe we’re only a few months away from the start of EPCOT’s Food and Wine Festival? EPCOT This year, the festival runs from August 29th through November 23rd, 2024, and while we know about some of the booths and offerings returning for the festival, we’re still waiting to hear the full list of booths, menus, and special events/offerings that will be available. However, we do already know that some major changes are expected to take place, so prepare yourselves! Some Offerings May Move By the time the festival opens, Communicore Hall and Communicore Plaza will have been open to the public for over 2 months (as long as everything goes as planned with the June 10th timeline), and we’re hoping to see some festival offerings include these new spaces! CommuniCore Hall Now, we’re not expecting the spaces to be used to their full potential just yet, but we’d love to get a taste of how some festival offerings will be run! As of now, Disney hasn’t mentioned anything about if these locations will be used, but we’ll be keeping our ears listening! Test Track Construction Test Track will be closing for reimagining in June as well, which means it’s very likely construction walls will be up during the festival, which could affect how you get to certain booths. Test Track Just like we’ve seen with other construction walls in EPCOT, it can affect certain walking paths, making navigating the park a little difficult. There is often at least one booth over in World Discovery near Test Track (often right across from the ride really), so keep in mind it may take an extra minute to get around! Read the first permit filed for the big Test Track changes! Menu Changes This one isn’t as unexpected, but sometimes it still can catch us off guard each year — menus WILL change! 2023 EPCOT Food and Wine Festival Now, this may mean that some dishes you weren’t a fan of are gone, BUT it could also mean that some of your favorites are replaced as well. As of right now, we don’t have menus for all the booths (or the list of the booths coming to the festival), and it’s likely we won’t get them for a few more weeks. When will Disney announce the menus for the Food and Wine Festival? Here’s what we’re expecting Crowds May Be Larger Now, the Food and Wine Festival is much shorter this year than it has been previously, which means that some people who booked their trips ahead of time are missing the festival, but OTHERS may be choosing to move their dates to fit within the shorter period of time. Food and Wine Festival Crowds (2023) This means that crowds could be larger throughout the whole duration of the festival, in comparison to previous years when we’ve seen the highest crowds on the opening and closing weekends, and on weekends in general. Weekdays will still likely be lower crowds than weekends though, so if you’re looking for lower crowds, those are the days to aim for. Seminars and Low-Cost/Free Events MAY Still Be Available We are crossing all our fingers and toes that we’ll see the Food and Wine seminars and demonstrations, book signings, chef meet and greets, and more low-cost/free events return for the 2024 festival! However, Disney hasn’t announced anything about these offerings just yet. Spaceship Earth In previous years, these events have been held in the World ShowPlace Events Pavilion, and we’ll have to wait and see if they’ll stay in that spot, or move locations now that there are additional areas they could be held at (again, as long as that Communicore construction goes as planned). We’ll be sure to bring you all the latest Food and Wine news, so stay tuned to DFB! Learn everything there is to know about EPCOT’s Food and Wine Festival here! IT'S WINE & DINE TIME! Magic Kingdom is changing in a big way — and it doesn’t look like Disney has any plans to stop those changes! Concept art of potential Magic Kingdom expansion including ‘Coco’ and Villains Splash Mountain is being transformed into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and we’ve seen the closure of Country Bear Jamboree to make way for a new version of the classic attraction. But, there are even bigger updates planned for Magic Kingdom and we’re digging into a map that might give us some clues about what we can expect! Disney previously announced a “blue sky” project that would bring a NEW land (or lands) to Magic Kingdom a couple of years ago. When it was first revealed, it seemed to be more of an abstract idea and one that could potentially never see the light of day, but it’s been confirmed as something that’s really happening. Since then, we’ve been digging into the concept art and looking out for every hint Disney drops about this park expansion. Cinderella Castle We’ve heard a few more updates from Disney about the plans, like the possibility of adding Coco-, Encanto-, or even Disney VILLAINS-themed lands and attractions to Magic Kingdom. The project has been named “Beyond Big Thunder Mountain” — likely because expansion will be located behind the Big Thunder Mountain ride. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Disney executive Bruce Vaughn previously said that these expansion plans for Magic Kingdom are the “largest ever,” and that the additions are on a similar scale to expansions like Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios and Pandora – The World of Avatar in Animal Kingdom. These lands included the addition of new attractions, restaurants, shows, and more, which could mean BIG changes for the iconic Disney World park. And, not too long ago, Disney shared at an exclusive Imagineering event that they would soon be filing permits for storm drainage and other foundational work for this expansion — which means things really are happening! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Earlier this year, we spotted an interesting map in the 2032 Reedy Creek Improvement District’s long-term land use plan that we think gave us a clue about the upcoming expansion. In this plan, Disney outlines some big changes from its last land use plan (proposed in 2020), including a new designation for land use called “Marginally Unsuitable.” These areas are considered to have recognizable constraints for development, such as proximity to wetlands within the 100-year flood elevation. ©RCID But, on the 2023 plan, there’s a large area directly north of Frontierland in Magic Kingdom that now has been declared “Marginally Unsuitable.” Previously, this area was labeled “land considered unavailable for development,” but now there’s the stipulation that “development is permitted to the extent allowable under the District’s long-term permits.” And, it’s the map we think is hiding the clues. If you look at the area marked “02” at the top right corner of the map below, just below that red line which is Floridian Way, is the area where we could see this expansion take place. ©RCID We laid the RCID land use map over a map of Frontierland — specifically, the area just north/northwest of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which you can see at the very bottom center of this image. As you can see, Disney has quite a bit of room to work with should this land eventually be developed. RCID Comprehensive Plan map and map of Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland Of course, only time will tell what will come of this land and how long it will take Disney to develop it. Disney previously stated that it plans to invest $60 billion into its parks division, but later clarified that those major expansion projects likely won’t happen for another five years. Frontierland No matter what ends up happening with the Magic Kingdom Beyond Big Thunder park expansion, you can be sure we’ll be on the lookout for the latest news and will update you with every announcement. We are “Go Left” people in EPCOT’s World Showcase — yep, we’re heading straight to Mexico when we’re planning on drinking around the world (or if we’re just planning to get some of our favorite drinks). Mexico pavilion in EPCOT That means our first stop will be at La Cava del Tequila to order up one of our favorite drinks there, except we just discovered that one of those favorite drinks is GONE. Now, we don’t mean to panic because some NEW drinks have also been introduced. Okay, before we start hyperventilating, we’ll tell you what’s going on. We were recently checking Disney World menu updates and changes when we noticed something interesting…okay, not interesting, SCARY. Our beloved El Diablo at La Cava del Tequila was removed from the menu. This spicy drink made with tequila, lime juice, agave, and a cucumber-jalapeño juice with a colorful hibiscus salt rim has been a favorite of ours since 2020. We hope it’s not gone forever…but it’s certainly gone for now. El Diablo Like we said, though, there were quite a few other changes here, too. That includes a change with another favorite drink of ours, the La Cava Avocado Margarita. It’s no longer on the menu, either. HOWEVER, it’s not REALLY gone. Whew. You’ll see it listed under a new drink on the menu, the Dos Hombres Avocado. The new drink is the avocado margarita made with Dos Hombres mezcal, melon-orange liqueur, fresh avocado, lime juice, and a hibiscus salt rim for $19.50. However, the description for the NEW margarita includes wordage that says you can still order the Avocado Margarita made with Tromba blanco teqiula for $17.50. Disney had us scared there for a sec. Disney Vacation Club (DVC) is Disney’s timeshare service, where you can purchase points and then use those points to stay at Disney properties around the globe. DVC Welcome Center in Disney Springs Being a DVC member comes with a whole ton of perks you can get, including discounts on food and merchandise, and access to the most exclusive spaces and hottest clubs at Disney World (okay, we’re kidding about that last part). But one of those spaces is about to CLOSE temporarily! The Disney Vacation Club Lounge in EPCOT will be temporarily closed for a scheduled refurbishment soon! The closure begins on June 2nd, 2024, and will last through July 13th, 2024. You’ll find this somewhat hidden members-only lounge above Journey Into Imagination with Figment at EPCOT. DVC Lounge in EPCOT During that time, there will be a temporary DVC lounge location set up at the Odyssey Pavilion in EPCOT. The Odyssey Pavilion is currently being used as festival space, but without a festival at the park during those 6 weeks, it’s likely that it will be exclusively open for DVC members. The Odyssey Pavilion Disney seems to have planned this refurbishment of the DVC lounge to be in between festivals so that the Odyssey pavilion is available as the replacement lounge. From May 28th through August 28th, there will be no festival in EPCOT (since the Flower & Garden Festival ends on May 27th and Food & Wine doesn’t start until August 29th). We haven’t heard any more details, but the normal DVC lounge location is usually open from 11AM to 6PM, and we’re expecting the one in the Odyssey to be the same. DVC lounge in EPCOT Make sure you bring your membership card and photo ID when you visit since they will probably be required to check in at the lounge. Members are usually allowed to bring a few guests with them to the lounge. At the current lounge, each Member can bring up to four guests (or the number of guests on their Resort reservation). Disney shared that the Odyssey Lounge will have complimentary snacks and beverages, along with additional items available for purchase. We’ll let you know when Disney announces more about this temporary lounge! You can find the Odyssey Pavilion located past Test Track on the way to the World Showcase. Keep an eye out for the little bridge you need to cross to get to it. We get SO excited about new food in Disney World! Animal Kingdom Lodge We had a blast hanging out recently at Disney’s H2O Glow Night Event at Typhoon Lagoon and trying some new food. But we recently discovered some new food hiding out at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, so we felt it was necessary to leave the parks and go try it out. So join us as we head to The Mara for some new sweet treats — and a new drink! The Mara is the quick service location at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. You’ll often find fun seasonal treats here, but sometimes, the desserts change out, too. Well, the first thing we noticed was that our beloved Nyala Brownie had been removed from the menu. This is the Peanut Butter Brownie we’ve been raving about FOR YEARS. We hope it will turn back up…eventually. Goodbye, Nyala Brownie For now, though, a new brownie has taken its place: the Coffee and Coconut Brownie, which costs $4.99. Yes, it looks like Mickey! It’s a brownie topped with coffee buttercream dipped in chocolate-coconut ganache. Okay, Disney, you’ve got our attention. But is it a worthy successor to the Nyala brownie? Coffee and Coconut Brownie The answer is “YES!” If you’re not a coffee person, you can avoid the coffee beans on top because you don’t otherwise get much of a coffee flavor. We tasted more of a hint of coconut, but not so much to overpower the brownie. The brownie itself is very moist, and that’s helped with the chocolate and mousse on top. We could eat ten of these! It’s decadent and chocolatey. So good We also picked up The Mara Cupcake for $6.29. It’s a yellow cupcake with a POG (passion fruit, orange, and guava) filling and vanilla and guava buttercream icing. If you’re a POG juice lover like us, you may think this sounds pretty amazing right? Well, we were disappointed because this ended up being a basic Disney cupcake. Then you get to the middle with that filling…and the texture is grainy with an offputting taste. How SAD! The Mara Cupcake The frosting is just regular frosting dyed green, so your mouth and fingers will also probably turn green as you’re eating it. The cupcake was moist, though, and if you just want a basic cupcake, this could be perfect for you. For us, well, we expected more. The filling was a total miss. A little bit of POG filling? Next up is the Sunflower Cake for $5.99, which is described as a marbled chocolate and vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream and chocolate chips. As you can see, it’s quite pretty. But then we found out that this cake wasn’t exactly as described. Sunflower Cake Inside, we didn’t see any kind of marbling, and the flavor was not vanilla. It actually tasted like carrot cake to us, so we’re not sure what’s going on here. The cake itself is very moist and rich, but if you get this thinking you’re getting a marbled chocolate and vanilla cake, you could be a little shocked. The chocolate chips on top don’t do much but add some crunchy texture. But yeah, this cake is not how it’s described, so beware. Where’s the marbling? Finally, we had to try a new drink. Okay, it’s a POG drink. We’ve already had one POG thing let us down, but what about the Passion Fruit, Orange, and Guava Frozen Slushy for $6.29? YAY — it’s really good because it tastes like POG juice. It’s also very refreshing, especially on a hot day. But it will also melt really fast on a hot day (however, it’s still good all melted). POG slush Now, this drink is very sweet, so some might think it’s TOO sweet, but if you love POG juice (which is also sweet), you’ll appreciate this one. So, should you head to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge for snacks? Well, why not? If you already have a reservation for Boma, for example, why not pop by The Mara and at least pick up the brownie for later? You can even grab some Zebra Domes, too. Stay tuned to DFB for more. See that little orange gal? That’s Anxiety. She’s joining Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust in Disney’s upcoming Inside Out 2 movie this summer. And if Riley’s Anxiety is anything like the kind in our heads, we have a feeling this story is going to be interesting, to say the least. ©Disney Inside Out 2 premiers in theaters on June 14th, 2024. Between all the teaser trailers and NEW sneak peek we got to see in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we are counting down the days until the new movie comes out. Oh, and if you didn’t know, you can watch an exclusive preview of the movie at Disney World right now! Wanna see how? Disney’s Hollywood Studios is hosting a limited-time sneak peek of Inside Out 2 at the Walt Disney Presents theater. And when we say “sneak peek,” we’re not just talking about the same old trailer you can see online. No, this was a REAL preview of the movie! How FUN! We won’t spoil it for you, but we will tell you that the sneak peek has us VERY intrigued to see where the story goes. This experience is completely free — all you have to do is head over to the Walt Disney Presents theater! This is such a fun thing to do! It’s located just outside the entrance to Toy Story Land. Look for the big, gorgeous neon sign, and you’ll know you’re in the right place. Oh, and while you’re in the area, you can meet Ariel, too! Look for this sign! The Walt Disney Presents building is actually a total hidden gem. Currently, there’s an accompanying Inside Out 2 exhibit outside the theater with all kinds of concept art, models, and facts about the film. We love this kind of thing! This is such a great spot to escape the heat and learn about the behind-the-scenes work it takes to make a movie! This was interesting to see! Don’t skip this unassuming little spot in Hollywood Studios. As you may be able to see in our photos, this location isn’t very crowded most of the time, so if you need a break from the chaos outside, you can pop in here! Highly recommend! Don’t forget — Inside Out 2 is coming to theaters SOON! Watch the trailer below. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more.
