  1. Okay, it’s SO exciting leading up to the opening of a new ride in Disney World. ©Disney We’ve been obsessing about Tiana’s Bayou Adventure way back when Disney first announced that the new ride would replace Splash Mountain. We’ve loved seeing all the details come together while we followed along with the construction of the ride in Magic Kingdom. We lost our MINDS seeing some of the animatronics for the ride (and they are SO impressive). We recently even heard a new song from the ride with even MORE of a sneak peek. Now, though, we’ve seen another KEY detail of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure: it’s what the Cast Members will be wearing! Okay, so this isn’t the VERY first look we’ve seen of the outfits because we’ve seen Cast Members in their outfits riding Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. But that didn’t give us a very good look at the new outfits. Now, we’ve seen the outfits IN FULL. We love how cute they are. The new costumes have pretty patterned shirts with a fun little tie, along with berets (the beret is totally giving us Naveen vibes). New outfits! Paired with brown pants, these Cast Members look like they just stepped right out of the bayou. A huge thank you to Cast Members Becky and Jilly for modeling the new outfits for us. Don’t they look AMAZING? Don’t they look great? It’s a good thing we don’t have long to wait for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure to open. Early previews start in June for Cast Members, DVC members, D23 Gold members, and Disney World Annual Passholders. The ride opens to the public on June 28th — we can’t wait to make a splash in the bayou! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure The ride will pick up after the events of The Princess and the Frog. Tiana now has a successful business, Tiana’s Foods, and she’s throwing a HUGE party for the people of New Orleans. But she’s missing a key ingredient for something she needs for the party, so we’ll have to hop into a log and take an adventure down the bayou to find it for her. ©Disney We’ll be meeting some new characters along the way, like some fun musician critters, as well as some frogs and a quiet, mischievous armadillo. Of course, some familiar characters, like Louie and Mama Odie will be putting in an appearance. We’ve also seen an animatronic for Tiana’s BFF, Charlotte “Lottie” La Bouff. ©Disney One thing’s for certain. We’ll be checking out Tiana’s Bayou Adventure as soon as we can, so you’ll be getting ALL the juicy details. We’ll also be there on opening day in Magic Kingdom reporting live, so stay tuned to DFB for more! Did Disney World CHANGE the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Ride Vehicles? 2. Southwest Airlines is a little different than some of its other major competitors. For one thing, Southwest is one of the few major airlines to offer free checked bags. Additionally, there is no assigned seating on Southwest flights. Naturally, this means some people try extra hard to be among the first to board the plane. Early bird gets the worm — et, seat — right? Flying Well, Southwest has some special “Upgraded Boarding” features to help people board the plane early. But before you jump at the opportunity, let’s take a look at those prices to see if it makes sense for you. Southwest Airlines offers Upgraded Boarding, which gives you the ability to upgrade your boarding position to A1–A15 24 hours before your flight, depending on availability. If you’re in one of those A1–A15 boarding positions, you will be among the first to board the aircraft, pick your preferred available seat, and access the overhead bin space. As you may know, the longer you wait to board, the fewer seats (and overhead space for bags) available. We love a window seat! Now, Upgraded Boarding prices start at $30 per segment of your flight, per person, “based on the popularity and length of each flight segment.” Additionally, you must use a credit card to purchase Upgraded Boarding. Southwest 50th Anniversary Plane OK, so $30 per person isn’t so bad, right? But here’s the catch. Take a look at the chart on the Southwest Airlines website. That fee can go as high as $149 per flight segment per person. ©Southwest Airlines If you’re interested, Upgraded Boarding is available to buy 24 hours before your flight’s scheduled departure time. Upgraded Boarding sales end 30 minutes before departure, so make sure to check your boarding position carefully before you make your decision. Note that Upgraded Boarding purchases are nonrefundable. Southwest Airlines There’s another way to help secure a better boarding position, though. You can also purchase Early Bird Check-In, which costs $15–$99 one way per flight segment, per customer. Similar to the Upgraded Boarding option, Southwest’s EarlyBird Check-In option gives you the ability to automatically check-in before the traditional 24-hour check-in, depending on availability. This also gives you the benefit of an earlier boarding position, a better opportunity to select your preferred available seat, and earlier access to overhead bin storage for your carry-on luggage. ©Southwest Airlines It’s up to you to decide if these prices are worth the peace of mind of boarding early. We’ll admit, those prices can get pretty high — especially if you’re traveling with a large group. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest travel news, so stay tuned for more. 4 Charts To Explain Disney World’s Freakish Price Increases Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 3. There are some spots at Disneyland Resort that we keep coming back to again and again. Over at New Orleans Square, we love to stop by Tiana’s Palace for a beignet. And, naturally, we’ll hop on the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction while we’re in the area. It’s a must-do! Tiana’s Palace But every once in a while, our typical park walk through Disneyland looks a little different thanks to temporary closures and construction. If you’re planning a trip to Disneyland this summer, you may need to listen up! We’ve got some important news you need to hear. Two BIG parts of Disneyland will be CLOSED this summer. Disney recently updated its website to reflect the upcoming closures, and we have the FULL details for you. ©Disney Let’s start with New Orleans Square. This section of the park will undergo a few important changes. First, the bridge connecting New Orleans Square with Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be temporarily closed starting on July 8th, 2024. You can access Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge via the Frontierland entrance during this time. New Orleans Square Nearby, Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion attraction is also undergoing a little refurbishment! Disney is working on a NEW queue experience, including an expansion of the outdoor queue! You can read more about the changes HERE! Haunted Mansion is closed and under construction Now, let’s talk about the Disneyland Railroad’s New Orleans Square Station. Disney explained, “Due to work in the area between Tiana’s Palace and the Haunted Mansion, the Disneyland Railroad station in New Orleans Square is unavailable for boarding and unloading, though the train will continue to operate.” Disneyland Railroad If you need to use the accessible entrance, you will be directed to use the stations at Mickey’s Toontown and Tomorrowland. Additionally, popcorn and churro carts may be temporarily relocated during the closure. New Orleans Train Station Over in Critter Country, there are some BIG changes coming soon. In fact, Critter Country temporarily closed back on May 1st. This section of the park will soon be home to the NEW Tiana’s Bayou Adventure attraction! Critter Country We’re still waiting on an opening date for this brand-new Disneyland attraction. But, if you want a preview of what to expect, you can see our FIRST LOOK at the Disney World version of the ride in Magic Kingdom. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure — Mid-May 2024 The Briar Patch is also closed right now, and this area is set to be transformed into Ray’s Berets. Raise your hand if you’re excited about this new merchandise location! Click HERE to learn more about what this NEW shop will include. Ray’s Berets ©Disney Pooh Corner is also getting a little transformation — it’s set to become Louis’ Critter Club! Disney explained that when the location reopens, the treats side of Pooh Corner will still feature classic merchandise from Hundred Acre Wood, including those iconic Tigger tails. Louis’ Critter Club ©Disney Below, we’ve got a full list of the additional closures in Critter Country: The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: Due to its location, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is closed and will reopen with the land. Hungry Bear Restaurant: This dining location will temporarily close for kitchen refurbishments beginning July 8th. The restrooms near Hungry Bear Restaurant will also be closed during this time. Davey Crockett’s Explorer Canoes: Due to nearby construction, Davey Crockett’s Explorer Canoes will temporarily close beginning July 8th. Critter Country Fruit Cart: This stand will temporarily close beginning July 8th. Phew! There’s a LOT going on in Disneyland this summer. We can’t wait for everything to reopen — there are some fun changes ahead. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. 4. If you’re looking for a way to get your snack on at Disney World, but you don’t wanna spend those big Disney bucks, then you’ve come to the right place! Cinderella Castle There’s nothing we love more than letting you in on our favorite snacks to get at Disney World. If there’s one thing we’re passionate about, it’s snacking. But something we love even more is letting you in on secret snack hacks that can save you some moolah that will make both your stomach and your pocket very happy. Now, you’re probably wondering what a ‘snack hack’ is. Well, my friends, this might change your whole outlook on snacking at Disney World! Snack hacks consist of buying pre-existing snacks at any quick-service location or kiosk in the parks and combining them with an extra snack or ingredient to elevate the meal, like ordering a side of plastic cheese for your corn dog nuggets (which if you haven’t tried, you need to ASAP!). Think of it like ordering from the Starbucks ‘secret menu’; they have all the items in stock but you’re just customizing them in a way that adds some extra flair to your typical order. However, with these hacks, understand that you will have to assemble them yourself. For this $5 snack hack, you’ll need to head over to Tomorrowland. If you’re at the Magic Kingdom and you’ve got a rumbly in your tumbly — this will probably be perfect for you. Cosmic Ray’s How To HACK IT: ALL the DFB Disney Snack Hacks! Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café is a quick-service restaurant inside Tomorrowland that offers typical American fare such as cheeseburgers, sandwiches, chicken tenders, salads, and much more. It’s located right in front of Tomorrowland Speedway and near the Mad Tea Party attraction. It’s a popular eatery at the Magic Kingdom because of its vast amount of seating and out-of-this-world entertainment by the musically talented Sonny Eclipse! This spectacular alien animatronic is stationed on stage and performs a 20-minute loop of fun tunes and jokes that some may call corny, but we think is pure genius. It’s Sonny Eclipse! Now as mentioned, this restaurant offers casual fast-food-like eats and for this snack hack, you’ll be ordering a side of french fries which are priced at $4.99. The next thing you will order is a little cup of onions which, if you dined at Cosmic Ray’s back in the ‘old days of yesteryear’, then you know that’s the replacement for the toppings bar they used to have available for guests dining at the restaurant. The side of onions is free of charge so your meal remains just under $5. BUT, that’s not all! Snack hack for under $5! After acquiring your snack, you’ll head over to the condiment pumps and add a nice topping of BBQ sauce which you can drizzle to your heart’s content. After that, just throw those chopped onions from the extra cup you ordered on top, and voilà! You got yourself some BBQ-loaded fries with no extra charge for the add-ons! Is that a hack or what? We think even Sonny Eclipse himself would approve. Total Game Changer And there you have it folks, a nice little hack to level up your snack. 5. I’m currently planning a trip to Disney World with my mom, and DANG these prices really do just keep going up and up. Does anyone else remember the days when Mickey Ice Cream Bars were less than $3? With little price increases happening all the time, it made me wonder what the BIG picture is. How MUCH have prices really gone up, and how much can we actually blame inflation for the changes? Ticket prices in EPCOT As any self-respecting nerd would do, I pulled up a spreadsheet and started crunching the numbers. I used a whole bunch of awesome historical data from our friends over at AllEars.net and plugged tons of numbers into an inflation calculator. And Y’ALL. You are gonna be SHOCKED (and probably really mad) when you see how much Disney’s prices have changed. If you’ve been a longtime Disney World fan, price increases aren’t exactly breaking news to you. Disney ups its prices every year, pretty much all over the place. We see smaller changes at the restaurants and gift shops all the time, and about once a year we see a major overhaul where most of the ticket prices and tons of food prices go up. Nothing is safe from these price hikes — from a 6-day Park Hopper ticket down to a Mickey-shaped Ice Cream Bar, everything gets more expensive every year. Mickey Ice Cream Bar So I decided to graph some of these price increases and find out how much we can blame inflation for the issue and how much prices are just straight-up being raised. I looked at prices for Disney World tickets, Annual Passes, Genie+, and Mickey Ice Cream Bars. But we’re not just here for the doom and gloom of it all (though trust me — there is some of that coming). After we go through all of these graphs, I’m gonna go through a TON of money-saving tips to help you plan your next Disney World vacation without breaking the budget! After seeing some of these, you might start to think it’s impossible to visit The Most Magical Place on Earth on any kind of reasonable budget, but there are actually some really easy ways to save a LOT of money. Stay in a value hotel. Disney World has three different classes of hotels on property: deluxe, moderate, and value. Deluxe hotels get up to more than $1,000 per night, but you can often find value hotels for under $200 per night. (I tend to mostly ignore those moderate hotels altogether, but that’s a whole other story. If you wanna read about my beef with moderate hotels, check out this post.) My personal favorite value hotel is Pop Century (because it has both cheap prices and a Skyliner station), but if you’re willing to give up the Skyliner, you can get even CHEAPER rooms at Disney’s All-Star Resorts. Pop Century Go to quick service restaurants instead of table service restaurants. Although I love a good sit-down meal in the middle of a busy Disney World day, the prices at most table service restaurants in Disney World are much higher than you’ll find at the quick service (fast food) restaurants. Satu’li Canteen is one of our FAVORITE Quick Service Restaurants! Rather than blowing the budget at fancy places to eat, I might skip the sit-down and opt for quick service, especially because there are some AWESOME fast food spots in the parks, so you don’t even have to compromise much on quality. Check out our list of the BEST quick-service restaurants in Disney World here! Have non-park days worked into your vacation. Rather than spending money on a ticket for every single day of your trip, just have a couple of park days and then spend the other days exploring the non-park parts of Disney World. You can check out all the hotels — I’d highly recommend doing a “Skyliner crawl” by visiting every hotel on the Skyliner’s route (maybe even grab a little snack or treat at each one), and you can do a “Monorail crawl,” too! My sister just got back from a trip with her family, and my nephews’ favorite day, hands-down, was the Skyliner day. Walt Disney World Skyliner You can also hop over to Disney Springs (which is free to enter) to find lots of shopping and dining options. Disney Springs Don’t feel like you have to spend every day in the parks — there are so many other things to do and places to explore! Ask for Help If planning a Disney World vacation while sticking to a budget sounds like a lot of work to you, you’re absolutely right. It’s no joke. 8. Take a look at that lovely theater. Soak it in. Enjoy the view. Looks pretty nice, right? Well, you can’t really see it right now. Hello from Disney’s Hollywood Studios Wait, what? It’s pretty hard to make an entire building disappear, but thanks to some NEW construction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, your view walking down Hollywood Boulevard may look a little different. During our recent visit to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we spotted a BIG eyesore. Come take a look and see what all the fuss is about! On May 31st, we walked through the gates of Disney’s Hollywood Studios and found quite the construction! Take a look at this MEGA lighting rig set up near Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. It’s HUGE! Look at that! When we got a little closer to the Chinese Theater, we noticed what seemed like a large stage in the middle of the park. Now THAT is interesting. This thing is HUGE Here’s a look from the other side. This angle really gives you an idea of the scale of this setup. It’s like a mini Coachella in the middle of Hollywood Studios! You can really see the SCALE here Behind the stage, there’s a large tent, too, likely for the talent. But speaking of the talent, what’s going on here, anyway?! WOW! So, we’ve had June 5th on our calendars for a while now. Why? The park is closing EXTRA early that day — 5:30PM, to be exact! The park will close early for a private event. After some investigation, we learned that Hollywood Studios is hosting the SAP Sapphire & ASUG Annual Conference, with a headlining performance by MAROON 5! ©SAP Sapphire & ASUG Annual Conference But wait — there’s ANOTHER major celebrity attending the conference. Reese Witherspoon will be attending the closing keynote at SAP Sapphire Orlando. ©SAP Sapphire & ASUG Annual Conference For now, it seems like that large stage will be in Hollywood Studios for the next few days. If you’re planning to visit the park between now and June 6th, note that you probably won’t have a clear view of the Chinese Theater. 13. A LOT is changing in Disney World, specifically at EPCOT. Okay, actually a lot has already changed at EPCOT as it’s about to finish a multi-year massive transformation. Test Track However, Disney isn’t quite done with EPCOT just yet. Disney previously announced that one of EPCOT’s most popular rides, Test Track, would be getting an update, and that update is going to happen sooner rather than later. Test Track will close on June 17th, but as to what we can expect from the update…well…Disney has been pretty tight-lipped about most of the details. So we asked YOU, our DFB readers, what you think the new Test Track will be like, and you had some theories! What won’t change First, we need to go over the things that we’ve confirmed won’t change with Test Track. For example, the ride isn’t moving. It’s staying in the same building it’s always been in. Disney has also confirmed that it has a great relationship with Chevrolet, who will remain as the sponsor for the ride. Chevrolet will remain the sponsor Finally, concept art of the new version of the ride suggests that the outdoor portion of the track will also remain intact. We know this is a source of frustration for some because with part of the ride being outdoors, well, that means that the ride closes during bad weather. Disney Fans Have SURPRISING Expectations for the Test Track Re-theme in EPCOT — Are They Right? What will change We know from concept art that the ride’s exterior will get a bit of an update. It looks like the ride’s main sign will change, along with some of its nighttime lighting. There is a lot more purple mixed with the blue lighting in this concept art of Test Track’s new nighttime look. ©Disney The ride’s overall theme will also change. Disney promised the new Test Track would take inspiration from World of Motion, the opening day EPCOT attraction that was originally in that space. That attraction “took visitors on a time travel journey through the history of transportation.” World of Motion ©Disney From the concept art, we can also see that the ride vehicles may be changing. It looks like the cars will be gone to be replaced by a different vehicle inspired by World of Motion, which used an Omnimover system for the vehicles. 3 Clues About How Test Track Will CHANGE in EPCOT Theories Okay, so let’s talk about the theories YOU, our readers shared with us. One of the overall theories, which seems plausible is a focus on Autonomous Vehicles, aka self-driving vehicles. This would certainly make the attraction more futuristic. Steve said, “I would like to see them lean heavy on the autonomous vehicle concept. That appears to be the future of cars. You already don’t actually drive the car, so they should make that more obvious. It could help people get into the future that GM is working towards.” Current Test Track queue Another theory was that the ride would be given a Sugar Rush theme from Wreck-It Ralph. Skyler said, “They should make it into Sugar Rush theme from Wreck it Ralph. Play the mini games to earn candies to build your car, then go test it before the big race.” We’re pretty sure this isn’t the plan for Test Track, but wouldn’t this be a cool concept for Tomorrowland Speedway in Magic Kingdom? Test track vehicle One of our readers, Donnie, had a very cool theory about incorporating seasonal overlays into the ride: “I’m hoping that it’ll be like a country scene like you see in the concept art I don’t know if they’re gonna build a show building outside to cover the current track, but it’ll be cool if they did that but like screens around the building outside where you speed around on the track and it changes with the seasons it could be like a snow overlay with Christmas and could be fall Halloweenish there’s so many overlays you could do.” Inside Test Track Of course, we KNEW someone had to mention potentially giving it a Cars theme so that it’s like Radiator Springs Racers in Disney California Adventure at Disneyland Resort. Richard said, “I LOVE the Cars track in CA.” Well, we do, too, but, again, Disney’s concept art doesn’t look like it’s going in that direction. Radiator Springs Racers Several of our readers think that the ride will focus on Electric Vehicles (EVs). Kelli said, “It’s still sponsored by GM and they are pretty serious about it. It wouldn’t surprise me if it deals more with electric cars.” That would certainly take the attraction into the future, right? Of course, these are all theories, and we won’t know for sure until Disney reveals more information about its plans to upgrade Test Track. We’ll let you know when we find out more. 14. All hands on deck! Disney has just revealed the FIRST LOOK at their newest cruise ship! ©Disney Disney Cruise Line has been going full steam ahead with expanding its one-of-a-kind experiences. The Disney Treasure is expected to set sail for its maiden voyage on December 21, 2024, and Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, the newest private island destination for cruise ship passengers, will welcome its first guests this summer. And to top it all off with a heavy dose of vitamin sea, Disney has finally revealed a first look at their newest cruise ship joining the family: The Disney Adventure! And of course, we got you covered with all the need-to-know info. Setting sail to Singapore in 2025, The Disney Adventure is Disney’s newest and seventh ship and is a part of the Disney Cruise Line. Although Disney has kept much of their construction details under wraps, sources say that it is expected to be the largest ship in the Disney fleet and one of the largest ships globally as it has a passenger capacity of around 6,000 and accommodations for 2,300 crew members! That’s a sea-riously big boat! ©Disney Setting Sail With Disney Cruise Line The ship’s design will likely follow the Disney tradition of blending modern amenities with the classic Disney charm we know and love, and we’re certain it will share in its sister ships’ tradition of having unique dining and entertainment experiences. Ever since its announcement in November 2022, we have been excitedly awaiting more information on this new ship and the time has finally arrived as Disney has shared an exclusive look at the ship’s bow. 17. If you’re traveling through Orlando International Airport soon via Spirit Airlines, you might be in for quite the ordeal if you’re not prepared! ©Spirit Airlines While we’re usually fans of Spirit Airlines and their budget-conscious fares, we’ve recently seen these companies pulling routes to Orlando. To make things worse, we encountered a MAJOR problem with one of Spirit’s most recent changes to their baggage process that you’ll want to be aware of before it becomes an issue for you, too! Spirit Airlines recently made a HUGE change to their baggage check-in system that was intended to make dropping off your bag easier and more efficient. According to Fox 35, this new process involves several self-service machines that passengers could walk up to and experience an expedited check-in that the company estimated would take around 70 seconds. They hoped the new baggage system process would help its passengers move on to security quicker since they wouldn’t need to stop to check in with an agent at the airport. ©Spirit Airlines So, while we’ve known about this change for a while it hasn’t seemed to be much of an issue… when it works. However, on our recent trip using Spirit Airlines and this baggage machine drop-off system, this was not our experience. Here’s how this experience is supposed to work: Check-in at the kiosk Tag your own bag Proceed to the self-bag drop machine Scan your boarding pass Scan your ID The bag machine compares the photo ID scan with a facial scan and compares ID information with your flight details Once the match is successful, you’ll put your bag on the conveyor belt attached to the machine (which scans the bag, weighs it, and then accepts payment for any additional services) You’re free to move on to security. Your bags are then sent to the airport’s checked baggage system Spirit has said that none of the data it collects during this process is shared with any government agencies. Passengers weary of this part of the process can opt out of the biometric photo-matching technology and choose to work with an agent if they would rather. It sounds simple enough, right? ©Spirit Airlines Here’s a breakdown of how our recent experience went when this baggage system was down! Although we were near the front of the line, it took us upwards of around 40 minutes just to wait our turn to drop off our bags in the completely user-operated machines. At MCO, Spirit has replaced almost every desk with this system and only a handful of the machines were working during our fiasco. ©Spirit Airlines We hope this issue won’t be an ongoing occurrence and recognize what a nightmare this can be to those who aren’t as familiar with flying as we are. If you’re planning on flying through MCO soon and using Spirit Airlines, it might be beneficial to plan ahead and allow for more time at the airport in case this issue is still ongoing when you’re trying to check in for your flight and get to security. Hopefully, Spirit Airlines will also recognize the problem and remedy the situation as quickly as possible! 18. Alright, I want to start off by saying that you don’t need to panic or violently cross off riding Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind on your EPCOT list. While I did have to call 911 on multiple occasions while working at Disney World, that is truly the exception. Bad things can still happen at Disney World, and unfortunately, something bad will likely happen every day at Disney World. However, that doesn’t mean you should make any drastic changes. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind There are lots and lots of moving parts at Disney World, with lots and lots of people experiencing all those moving parts. It is hot, people are exhausted, and things happen. It may be the “Most Magical Place on Earth,” but less-than-magical things can still happen. Being prepared and listening to your body can help prevent some less-than-magical things but Cast Members (and paramedics) are also there to help. I was fortunate to be able to work at Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT. I loved the time I spent as an Xandarian Ambassador and getting to see riders experience this attraction. This ride is definitely a thrill ride, and while it didn’t have big drops or upside-down maneuvers, it is still exerting some pretty intense forces on your body. While the vast majority of people absolutely loved the attraction and were able to walk right off, some people’s bodies did not react quite as well to saving the galaxy. We did deal with a fair amount of people getting sick both on the ride and after getting off. Most people were able to recover quickly after getting some water and taking a seat. However, we did have to get assistance from paramedics in some instances. Again, I want to reiterate that getting paramedics involved was a pretty rare occurrence. However, if you ever feel like you need medical assistance, talk to the nearest Cast Member or call 911 and ask to be transferred to Reedy Creek. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind First of all, know and respect your body’s limitations. If you have a history of motion sickness or know you don’t do well on certain rides, be kind to your body and respect those boundaries. It can be hard when you really want to experience a ride, but you know your body would not be happy with it. Just know that skipping a ride that you know you wouldn’t do well will allow you to experience rides that you would likely enjoy better. Feel free to talk to Cast Members at the front of the attraction and they can help with describing the ride in more detail. Keep in mind that they won’t be able to definitively tell you whether you can ride or not, but they can provide additional insight. For instance, if there are certain ride elements you can’t do (big drops, upside down, etc.) they can confirm whether you will experience that element on the ride. Cosmic Rewind Queue As well, while you are in the parks make sure you are staying hydrated and eating regular meals. Make sure you are taking breaks and listening to how your body is doing. You will have so much more fun on the rides if you are not dehydrated or running on two cups of coffee and a beer. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind doesn’t have any huge drops or go upside down, but the movements in the relatively dark room can cause your body to feel some wonky effects. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Pre-Show Now if you do end up feeling not so great while riding Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, don’t feel bad or embarrassed. The ride is unique, and it puts some odd forces onto your body. The unloading area has some benches you can take a seat on, and you can also ask a Cast Member for a bag if you are feeling sick. Don’t feel like you need to rush out of the attraction and take some time if you need it. There is also an elevator you can use to exit if you don’t feel like you can walk up and down a bunch of stairs. If you really aren’t feeling great, Cast Members can call for paramedics to come and check you out. Cast Members usually don’t have training on medical issues beyond ways to help the guest until additional help can arrive, so if you are worried about your health, they can call for additional help. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Beyond feeling sick after riding an attraction, I have also seen people trip while entering or exiting the ride vehicle. As well as tripping in queues or while walking around in the park. My biggest request is to be aware of your surroundings and where you are going. Also make sure you are focusing on directions from Cast Members and putting away distractions. If you need some extra time getting on or off of an attraction, you can also let a Cast Member know. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind We did not want to write this post to scare you or try to convince you not to ride Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. We just want to help you be prepared for your Disney World vacation and give you a few tips on experiencing attractions. None of these can guarantee that you won’t feel sick after a ride, but also know that Cast Members are there to help and additional assistance is only a phone call away! In particular, the talks have been about demolishing Dinoland U.S.A., a usually empty part of Animal Kingdom currently (with the exception of the Dinosaur attraction), and turning it into the Tropical Americas. However, very little has been announced about WHEN this change is expected to take place. Looking back at Disney World’s past park expansions, here’s when we may expect to see it take place, from start to finish. Disney World has had a few past expansions that help us figure out how long this massive transformation could take. Pandora Animal Kingdom’s last major land addition came in the form of Pandora — The World of Avatar. To begin this journey, we have to flash ALL the way back to September 2011, when Disney announced in a press conference that a long-term creative partnership with James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment and Fox Filmed Entertainment had been made to bring Avatar to the Disney parks. Imagineers then broke ground for the new land in January 2014. Pandora Imagineers were hard at work creating this land, of which nothing similar had ever been seen before, when in August 2015 at D23 Expo, Disney announced the official name of the land — Pandora — The World of Avatar. It was Bob Chapek, then Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman, who made the announcement, and Joe Rhode highlighted the partnership Disney had with James Cameron, Jon Landau and the rest of the Lightstorm team (the creators behind Avatar) to ensure the land was being brought to life properly. Pandora — The World of Avatar All was quiet again then until February 2017, when during a company Earnings Call it was announced the land would officially open on May 27th, 2017. Annual Passholders and other select guests and Cast Members got an early preview of the new land and attractions before the official opening. Windtraders So from conception to completion, Pandora took approximately 6 years to complete — that’s not bad for an ENTIRE new land! Toy Story Land Closest in size to the Animal Kingdom Tropical Americas expansion is the Toy Story Land expansion that came to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2018. This expansion was first announced for the park at the 2015 D23 Expo, stating that two new attractions would be added alongside expanding the already existing Toy Story Mania! At the time, no timeline was announced. Toy Story Land Construction began in April 2016 and just under two years later, the land’s opening date was announced in February 2018. The land officially opened in late June 2018 with two new attractions and a new quick service location. Slinky Dog Dash For this smaller expansion, conception to completion only took about 3 years, which is immensely impressive considering how large the land feels when you’re walking through it. Galaxy’s Edge Also in Hollywood Studios, one of the largest expansions the park has seen was Galaxy’s Edge, which was announced during, you guessed it, the 2015 D23 Expo in August. However, what was different about this announcement was that it was for BOTH Disney World and Disneyland! Galaxy’s Edge Construction began in both parks in April 2016, and the official name of the lands was announced just over a year later in July 2017. A few short months later, in November 2017, a major construction milestone was hit in Hollywood Studios as Cast Members signed a support beam that would top out the land. Galaxy’s Edge Then, in March 2019, it was announced that Galaxy’s Edge would open in May 2019 in Disneyland and in August 2019 in Hollywood Studios. However, the lands opened without Rise of the Resistance, which opened in December 2019 in Disney World and January 2020 in Disneyland, finishing out the lands. Chewbacca! This means that from conception to FULL completion, this expansion took about 4.5 years for Disneyland and just over 4 years for Hollywood Studios. Millennium Falcon at night So what does this mean for the Tropical Americas? Well, we last heard that Imagineers are still gathering inspiration for the new land, we’re still in the concept phase. For these past expansions, we’ve seen this take anywhere from 1-3 years. It’s been about 7 months since it was officially announced that Tropical Americas was coming to Animal Kingdom, which means we could still have a few months or years to go until construction actually begins. And beyond that, we could have 1-2 years of construction, which would place this land opening somewhere between very late 2025-2026 (potentially even early 2027). @Disney Now it’s important to note that the Tropical Americas land is going to be located on an existing part of the park, which is now Dinoland U.S.A. That could make the construction phase of this project shorter than the expansions mentioned above — since the infrastructure, like walking paths and backstage areas, electricity, water, sewer, etc. already exist in the area. 24. Do you know what our number one tip for Disney World in the summer is? Stay hydrated! Don’t forget your free water It gets really toasty and really humid in Disney World during those summer months, and that means you’ll be sweating left, right, and center! To keep yourself from getting dehydrated, you’ll want to make sure you’re drinking as much water as you can. Many people choose to bring their own bottles to the parks, but if you forget to pack one, there’s another solution! You can get free ice water at any quick service location in Disney World, as well as many snack stands! We use this trick frequently when we’re in the parks to get water that’s fresh and cold. WATERRRRR But one of the best spots to get ice water is in EPCOT! If you head to the China Pavilion and stop by Lotus Blossom, they’ll give you a pre-made cup of ice water with a LID. They also have straws in a container on the counter, so it’s much easier to sip this one on the go, instead of tipping it back and dumping ice in your face. Lotus Blossom water There are plenty of spots to get free ice water around Disney World, but they’re not all created equal. Sometimes, we’ve had to wait in long lines to get water at a restaurant, so we generally prefer the spots where we can serve ourselves. We love a self-serve station In Magic Kingdom, Casey’s Corner often has self-serve water dispensers out next to the piano during operating hours. We’ve also seen dispensers out and about in other parts of the park during the hotter season, though they aren’t guaranteed. But in this park, you might want to avoid the really busy quick service restaurants if you’re interested in just getting water and going to a snack stand instead — any stand with a drink machine will be able to make you a cup, and the line will likely be shorter. Casey’s Corner water station At EPCOT, some of the best spots to grab a refreshing cup are at Spice Road Table, where there’s a self-serve dispenser, and at Sunshine Seasons, where the drink machine is open access. At Sunshine Seasons, you’ll need to show the people at the register that you just got a cup of water, but it’s much quicker than waiting in line for someone to serve you. Spice Road Table Hollywood Studios is an absolute treasure-trove of self-serve water dispensers! One of our favorites is located inside BaseLine Tap House and it’s always filled with delicious, cold water. You can also get your fill at Ronto Roasters during its operating hours, and we’ve seen water stations pop up at some other quick service spots on occasion. Hollywood Studios is also home to two Joffrey’s locations, and if their lines aren’t too long, they’re a great option for a hydration fix. Water Dispenser Last but not least, we have Animal Kingdom! Here, your self-serve water options are a bit more limited, but the park is littered with small snack stands that make the perfect quick stop. No excuse to avoid hydrating! Terra Treats in Animal Kingdom So there you go — some of our best advice for getting water! Don’t forget to pack your water bottle and stay hydrated if you’re going to Disney World this summer.
