  1. It’s officially summer, which means we want to jump into the pool at our resort after munching on snacks and sipping drinks from the poolside bar. Stormalong Bay Construction We have been waiting and waiting for news on when one of our favorite Disney resort pools is going to reopen after routine maintenance, and we think we found a MAJOR clue to when we can get back in and make a splash. Stormalong Bay and Shipwreck Pool at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resort have been closed since January 2025, but did Disney quietly tell us when it’s reopening? Construction from April Hurricane Hanna’s Waterside Bar & Grill, the poolside restaurant by the pools, just updated their menu with brand new items. Generally, when the menu starts to get a fresh look, that means they’re getting close to opening to the public. Hurricane Hanna’s While we don’t have any official word from Disney World besides that it will be closed from “January 2025 through June 2025,” this is definitely a step in the right direction and a hint that it might be opening sometime during June as opposed to after. Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Beach Club If you’re staying at Yacht and Beach Club, don’t worry — there are still pools to swim in. The Tidal, Admiral, and Dunes Cove leisure pools are open to guests. Stormalong Bay Curious what new menu items we’ll be able to see when Hurricane Hanna’s reopens? Let’s take a look! All of the following items have been added as new: Shrimp Cocktail Grilled Chicken Sandwich Loaded Crab Fries Chicken Strips Impossible Burger There are even some new cocktails available! There are also beer and wine options, too. Cold Fashioned Captain’s Mai Tai Cape Codder Samuel Adams Wicked Hazy IPA Surfside Peach Tea + Vodka Hard Tea Moua Sauvignon Blanc Kim Crawford ‘Illuminate’ Sparkling Seawitches Brew What had to get the boot for the new menu items to have their place to shine? Did any of your favorites get cut? Battered Onion Rings Chili-Cheese Fries Hummus and Crudité Breaded Chicken Strips Beer-battered Fish and Chips Pina Colada Impossible Burger We have a feeling that Stormalong Bay will be opening soon, so we’re going to keep a close eye on it and share all the details with you. 2. Gatorland’s latest rescue animal is a 9-foot alligator found near Gainesville with a bungee cord wrapped around his upper jaw. The reptile was captured by a trapper and delivered to the Orlando attraction, which will be his new home. His new name: Bungee. “Someone tried to catch this alligator with a bungee cord, which became deeply imbedded in his top jaw. This was an extremely dangerous situation for Bungee and could have eventually killed him, Mark McHugh, president and CEO of Gatorland, said in a news release. “People were illegally feeding him and he came right up out of the water to take food from the trapper,” McHugh said. The animal had been seen for months at Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park. The cord was removed, and the animal received medical care before joining the other gators at Gatorland. Bungee weighs 200 pounds and is estimated to be 25 years old. He is one of more than 100 rescue alligators at the attraction. Conservation falls under the perview of Gatorland Global, a nonprofit organization with a local and international reach. The Gatorland crew helps put Bungee, a 9-foot alligator, into the water of the Orange Blossom Trail attraction. (Carolyn Hinton-Hutchins/Gatorland)“We are incredibly grateful to [trapper] Ron Sanderson for his months of hard work to catch Bungee and bring him to us,” McHugh said. “That’s what Gatorland Global is all about. It’s passionately engaging in alligator and crocodile conservation and teaching others how important these animals are to our animal kingdom.” Email me at dbevil@orlandosentinel.com. 4. Here at Disney Food Blog, we’re suckers for a special drink. It’s even better when it’s a drink we can only grab for a limited time, because that makes it even more special. Coca-Cola Rooftop Bar at Disney Springs We found a drink that makes us wish it were available all year round, but since it’s only around this month, if you see us going to Disney Springs every day, don’t mind us. Are you sitting down? Good, because let us introduce you to the Tropical Rainbow at the Coca-Cola Store Beverage Bar for $12.50. We may or may not be in love. Tropical Rainbow This drink is made with Simply Orange, Frozen Fanta Blue Raspberry, and grenadine. Rainbow gummy bears Let’s start off by saying IT’S SO PRETTY! The rainbow is so much, and even as it mixes together, it still has bright colors. The gummy bears on top in rainbow order are also so much fun and really take this drink to the next level. A drink with the view It’s not a whole slushy but uses Frozen Fanta to add a bit of texture. The blue raspberry melts into the orange juice, and once we mixed it all up, we took a sip and really tasted the orange juice. The drink tasted slightly bitter, but on the sour side, much like Simple Orange. The grenadine helps break up some of that flavor, and we really enjoyed it once it all melted together, so the flavors really blended together. It’s Florida, so it’s going to melt fast! Slushy We love that it came in a souvenir cup that looks like a vintage Coca-Cola cup. It’s plastic, so it’s really easy to travel with. You can even get an Annual Passholder discount on it, which we’ll never say no to. The Coca-Cola Rooftop Bar also has stunning views of Disney Springs and is a great way to cool off in the shade on those hot summer days. The Tropical Rainbow If you want this beautiful, rainbow drink, you’ll want to get it by the end of June since it’s a limited-time offering. 5. The one thing we love about Disney World is that you can get some amazing food without ever stepping foot in a theme park. Maria & Enzo’s Not only do Disney World hotels have great restaurants, but Disney Springs is chock-full of dining spots that we visit on a regular basis; no park ticket required! So when we were asked to attend a media event at Maria & Enzo’s Ristorante to check out some food and drinks…well, we couldn’t say “no!” Like a lot of Disney World, Maria & Enzo’s comes with a story. The idea is that the restaurant, which is Italian, is in an airline terminal that was abandoned in the 1930s, so if you visit this restaurant, be sure to check out the fun retro travel posters on the walls. Check out the retro travel posters At the event, we were given a menu of items we would have an opportunity to try. YES, please! The menu for the event We started with the Panzerotti, which is made with brie, speck, and strawberry mostarda. A Panzerotti is sort of like an Italian turnover, but it’s generally savory rather than sweet. This one was a bit of both, thanks to the mostarda. Panzerotti So the panzerotti itself was sort of like a crunchy samosa with a nice savory salty flavor. Then, when you dip it in the mostarda (which is served on the plate under the panzerotti), it becomes this sweet and savory bite with that wonderful strawberry flavor. Sweet AND savory? Oh, yeah! Sweet and savory Then we had the Tortellacci Cacio e Pepe, which is veal house-made pasta, parmigiano-reggiano, and black pepper. Random fact: “Cacio e Pepe” translates to cheese and pepper. The pasta was cooked perfectly, making it easy to chew and very light. The meat inside was tender. Tortellaci Cacio e Pepe The sauce was SOOOOOOO creamy, yet somehow managed to stay light. By the way, we were only given about three tortellacci because this was basically a sampling, but just so you know, we could inhale an entire plate of this. We wanted more Next up, we dived into a plate of Guancialini de Maiale. Guanciale is a type of cured Italian meat and is generally made from a pig’s cheek or jowl (yep, you didn’t know this review would be educational, right?). What we had was red wine braised pork cheek, fregola, mushrooms, cipollini, 12-year balsamic, and castelvetrano olive oil. Guancialini di Maiale The meat was SO tender — you could just slice it with a fork, no knife required. It’s also cooked well and easy to chew. It’s also nice and light, which is surprising, and fregola around it (which is a small pasta) was a great side to the meat. Add in the mushrooms and onions, and you’ve got a filling dish. The meat was so tender We ended our meal with the Copetta Di Gelato, which is house-made peach and vanilla gelato, biscotti crunch, and whipped cream. This had more gelato than we expected, so it was a solid dessert. However, the peach gelato didn’t taste very peachy. It was more like a sherbet than anything. The vanilla had a good vanilla ice cream-type flavor, though. Copetta di Gelato The biscotti crunch (aka crumbs) on top added a nice crunch to the creamy gelato. It was all served in something like a waffle cone, so if you pressed your spoon down on it, it would crack and you could eat it with a spoonful of gelato, which was especially good. Gelato is always a good snack for a hot day…and we get a lot of those! You can’t go wrong with gelato We also got to drink some wine (best day ever?), starting with the Cantalici Rose. This wine had a pretty coral pink hue. It was really light with some fruit aromas with hints of raspberry and strawberry, although there’s some floral notes there, too. It’s a bit sweet, but also a bit tangy, so it’s well-balanced. This could be a wine that pleases just about everyone. Cantalici Rose Next was the Listra Super Tuscan. This one smelled sort of like blackberries, but with just a hint of spice. It also has a dark color similar to blackberries. It’s a richer wine than the rosé and has pretty strong berry flavors. It’s about a medium on the acidity scale. By the way, the “Super” part of its name just means that it breaks traditional wine rules from Tuscany (apparently, there are wine rules, people) by including international grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Listra Super Tuscan Then we had another dark wine, the Tenuta Croce di Mezzo Brunello di Montalcino (say that three times fast…). One whiff and we thought it smelled like strawberries, vanilla, and a touch of spice. We’ll say this one is more earthy in flavor and full-bodied, so it might not work for new wine drinkers who prefer lighter and fruitier flavors. It’s both tangy and smoky, with even a touch of chocolate flavor. Tenuta Croce di Mezzo Brunello di Montalcino We ended our wine tasting with Terra Vizina Prosecco Brut. Like most prosecco, it’s dry with a bit of acidity that rates from about medium to high. We got hints of fruit flavors that reminded us of apple and citrus. Despite its dryness, though, it feels smooth when you drink it. Terra Vizina Prosecco Brut But our drinking adventure wasn’t over just yet. We also got to try some beers. The Birra Moretti L’Autentica is an earthy beer with a mild bitterness and subtle sweetness, so we’d say it’s a pretty well-rounded lager. It’s also got a high level of carbonation (in other words, BUBBLES!) and a crisp finish. Birra Moretti l’Autentica The Menabrea Ambrata had a slightly sweet flavor and an intense toasted malt smell. It’s got a dry finish that’s well-balanced by the hops. Menabrea Ambrata For our third beer, the Cipriani Carciofo. We were told this one was made of artichoke leaves, which is pretty interesting. So you get that bitterness from artichokes as well as an herbaceous flavor. We’d describe this one as having complex flavors, which makes it pretty unique. Cipriani Carciofo Finally, we had the Ford Premium Lager (this one is easier to spell, that’s for sure!). This one was a harmonious blend of malt and hops, meaning it was well-rounded in flavor. It also had a touch of floral when you sniffed it (yep, we’re sniffing beer here, folks). It was light and fresh with a subtle sweetness. Ford Premium Lager We enjoyed trying out some new food and drinks at Maria & Enzo’s, and we look forward to trying out all the new food and drinks that come to Disney World, so stay tuned for more reviews. 6. There is nothing we love more than something getting easier, especially when it comes to travel. Who doesn’t love fewer stops, transfers, and tickets? ©Eurostar Europe is elevating its already stellar train system to the next level by adding new stops, making travel even more convenient. According to Time Out London, within the next decade, a fleet of up to 50 new trains will be added to Eurostar. The project will cost approximately £1.7 billion, equivalent to around $2.3 billion. ©Eurostar New routes include direct routes from St Pancras to Germany and Switzerland. For these direct routes, Eurostar has not yet decided which stops, if any, the trains will make and whether passengers will be able to get off at other stops. For this project, they will need to build more “passenger space at the stations, install new border checkpoints, and secure access to tracks.” ©Eurostar These new routes will also increase the existing Eurostar routes, especially the routes between London and Paris. There are discussions about increasing the 17 daily return frequencies to 20. ©Eurostar Why does that thrill us here at Disney Food Blog? All of these new routes sound like they will be easier to go to Disneyland Paris! You can extend your trip by going to other places in Europe as well as flying into more airports of your choosing. We’ll be keeping an eye on this project as it progresses, so make sure you keep following DFB for more! Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 11. There are so many restaurants at Disney World, where do we even start? There’s a spot for just about anyone, from quick casual to sit-down, and options in between. Maria & Enzo We headed to a sit-down restaurant, Maria & Enzo’s at Disney Springs, to see if this place is worth the stop. We’re bringing you a FULL review, so sit back, grab your notebook, and get ready to have dinner with us at DFB. Atmosphere Maria & Enzo’s is located in the Landing at Disney Springs and invites you to “step into the golden age of air travel when you savor authentic Italian cuisine inside this stunning trattoria.” Step inside Step inside a 1930s airline terminal! With classic touches like retro travel posters and subtle nods to airplanes, it’s a beautiful space featuring numerous tables. You’ll enter on the top of a grand staircase as your server leads you downstairs to your table. Don’t worry, there’s also an elevator! Make sure you look up when you come in because there are beautiful travel details on the ceiling. Inside We’re ready to eat, so let’s check out the menu. Menu This restaurant is filled with classic Italian dishes, from tons of pasta options and appetizers that will make your mouth water. They pride themselves on traditional Sicilian dishes, and because of that, keep in mind that modifications may be less familiar, depending on the dish. Menu They serve lunch from 11:30 AM to 3:30 PM and dinner from 4 PM to 10 PM, as well as brunch on the weekends. While same-day dining may be available, it’s recommended to book a reservation in advance. Menu Now, let’s eat. Eats We started with the Burrata Caprese for $19. Burrata This is a new recipe made with tomatoes, basil pesto, sea salt, and ciabatta crostini. The tomatoes were gorgeous, ripe, and juicy, and the basil pesto added brightness that paired well with the tomatoes’ acidity. The burrata is topped with olive oil and flaky sea salt, which adds a bit of crunch. The crostini was on the too-crispy side, and it took a bit of effort to get through it, but we did appreciate the crunch with the bite of the tomatoes and the creaminess of the burrata. We wish there had been more bread because there wasn’t enough for the toppings, and we ended up with a lot of tomatoes at the end. Burrata For our entrees, we had Rosetta Di Lasagna Per La Tavola, which serves two, for $49. It serves 2! This is fresh egg pasta, ricotta, mozzarella, fontina, besciamella, short rib and pork ragu, pomodoro, and parmigiano-reggiano. They only offer a limited number of these each day, so availability may be limited when you visit. Woah! It’s so big! You could probably even share this with three people. The noodles had a perfect al dente bite, and the short rib and pork ragu were flavorful and tender. While there wasn’t too much sauce, it was a pomodoro sauce with an acidic, tomato kick. The ricotta comes in little dollops and provides a nice creaminess, and there was also mozzarella and fontina between the layers of noodles. More cheese in the layers would be nice, so we could taste it a bit more! Spirals of pasta We also had the Pollo alla Parmigiana for $32. Chicken Parmesan This is a lightly breaded chicken breast, served with marinara, for di latte mozzarella, parmesan, and penne pomodoro. This dish is also huge! The chicken was seasoned well, but perhaps a touch salty for some. It was on the drier side, but the cheese and marinara paired well with it, adding a different texture. The pasta was again, al dente, and we could tell it was freshly made. If you are looking for a familiar Italian dish, the chicken Parmigiano might be the right choice for you. Mmm bubbly cheese For a gluten-free option, we had the Spaghetti alla Chitarra for $30. Gluten free It’s made with marinara sauce, meatballs, Parmigiano-Reggiano, and basil. If you would like to be gluten-free, you’ll have to request it with your server. Note that the meatballs are not gluten-free. We chose to have gluten-free noodles but stuck with the traditional meatballs. For gluten-free noodles, they were okay, but we thought the noodles and sauce tasted like they were store-bought. The meatballs were soft and melted in your mouth, and were the winner on the dish, but we were a little disappointed with this allergy-friendly option, especially for the price point. Meatballs come on the side For dessert, we tried the Coppa Di Maria for $16. Stunning! The dessert is served with house-made vanilla, chocolate, and pistachio gelato, as well as amaretti and pizzelle cookies, and amarena cherries. You can’t go wrong with gelato! The chocolate gelato was incredibly rich, and the vanilla was lovely, creamy, and smooth. The pistachio was also super creamy and soft, but had chunks of pistachios mixed in to add a crunch. The whipped cream on top reminded us of cannoli cream, and the cherries were a fun addition. The pizelle was crispy and sweet, and was nice to have crunch along with the gelato. We love gelato You knew we had to try the Quattro Cannoli for $16, too! Cannolis We served four flavors: classic, pistachio, chocolate, and hazelnut. We thought all of the cannolis tasted similar, except for the chocolate. The hazelnut and pistachio were delicious, but there wasn’t a noticeable difference between them. The classic one is good, but the cherry flavor takes over the cream, so if you’re not a cherry fan, you might want to go for other flavors. We loved how they were filled to the brim, and cannoli is a lovely way to finish off an Italian dinner. Four different flavors Drinks For our drinks, we tried the Taste of Summer for $10. Floridays The drink is made with peach puree, orange juice, pineapple juice, and cherry syrup. This drink also has a different name, Floridays! When we took a sip, it was thick and pineapple forward. We appreciate a great mocktail, and when the ice melts, it becomes more liquid, making it easier to drink. It just screams summer, which is perfect for Florida, where it’s summer all year round. Mocktail option We tried the Z+T for $13, for an alcohol-free option. Zero proof It’s made with Lucano, an amaro, Jack Rudy tonic, Fee Breothers, cardamon bitter, and soda. While this is a zero-proof cocktail, it is intended for individuals 21 years of age and older and requires ID verification. The orange peel on top gives a strong citrus note on the nose, and the cardamom is strong when you take your sips. It reminded us of the holidays. It’s less fizzy than a typical Coke, and we think this is a nice zero-proof option that reminds us of a real cocktail. Z+T Another drink we had was the N2 Bean Martini, priced at $19, for a sweeter option. N2 Bean Martini We love an espresso martini, but we’re not sure this hit the mark. It wasn’t very shaken, and the aftertaste was quite bitter, more than a typical coffee drink. We thought the vanilla vodka was an addition, adding a nice sweetness to it. Our espresso martini Nosh or Not Maria & Enzo’s need to be on your list if… You are looking for traditional Italian dishes You like varieties of pasta and different sauces to try You want a sit-down restaurant to get out of the heat and have a nice family dinner You might want to head somewhere else if… You like a wider variety of options with available modifications You’re looking for a quick bite before heading on your way You want to eat a meal closer to where you’re staying or at the parks Our meal Overall Maria & Enzo’s is going to be your spot for those traditional Italian dishes. Our table was full of cheese and pasta, which are our favorite parts of an Italian dinner. For allergy-friendly options, we weren’t obsessed and might pick somewhere else to try, but we loved the different cocktails and mocktails. The desserts were fun, and if you just need to hit that Italian craving, you’ll want to head straight here. In the meantime, we’re going to continue to try more and more restaurants and bring all the details here for you to have the best Disney World vacation yet. 16. If you’re heading to Walt Disney World, chances are you’ll be flying into Orlando International Airport (MCO) — it’s the main gateway for millions of Disney guests each year. Orlando International Just stepping off the plane, seeing that iconic blue and green carpet, and you can already feel like the start of your vacation. But while MCO and Disney World are closely connected in many ways, the journey from the airport to the parks has gotten trickier in recent years — and there are a couple of big things that really need to change to make this part of the trip smoother for guests and our readers did not hold back their thoughts on this one. We asked readers, “What changes would make that ride from MCO to Disney World smoother?”. The was one overwhelming response to this — the Magical Express. This complimentary bus service used to take guests from the airport straight to their Disney World hotel — no extra planning, no luggage wrangling, and no stress about ride-shares or rental cars. It made the arrival experience feel seamless and magical, like your vacation truly started the moment you stepped off the plane. As reader Mike put it plainly, “There’s only one answer, right? Bring back the Magical Express.” Magical Express sign Not only did the Magical Express offer convenience, but it also kept guests in the Disney bubble — something a lot of fans are still missing. Reader Kristen explained it best: “Why would they stop bringing people into their Disney bubble? It just pops the bubble and makes us more mobile — maybe even able to stay elsewhere and visit Disney.” Without the Magical Express, guests are now more likely to explore other transportation and lodging options, which means they may not be as immersed in the full Disney experience as they were before. For many, this one change made a big impact on how that first day of vacation feels. We miss the Magical Express With increasing traffic and travel times between Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Disney World, many guests are dreaming of a faster, smoother option, like a dedicated rail line. Our reader, Chris, summed it up perfectly: “Rail, rail, rail! Need an AirTrain-like train between MCO and Disney to just bypass the traffic.” A reliable rail system could eliminate the guesswork of traffic delays, ride-share surges, and rental car chaos. It could also help bring back a little of the “magic” that’s been missing since the end of services like Magical Express, giving families a calm, stress-free journey straight to the fun. Baggage claim! Good news, Chris — this might happen! Currently, there is a proposed project in the works to add a SunRail train line to Central Florida. The proposed stops would be at Orlando International Airport (MCO), near the Orange County Convention Center, and on South International Drive. There will even be a route along Interstate 4 to go to Tampa. A stop will eventually be added to Disney Springs, as well! ©SunRail For more Disney news and travel tips, follow us at DFB! 17. It’s a little sad when something closes in Disney World, and lately, we’ve seen a lot of permanent closures that have already happened or are happening soon. Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel We recently had to say goodbye to It’s Tough To Be A Bug in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. We also just said goodbye to Muppets Courtyard in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. We’ll soon be saying goodbye to Tom Sawyer Island and Rivers of America in Magic Kingdom. Well, over at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin, we were recently informed that a popular restaurant there, Shula’s Steak House, would permanently close. Now the restaurant is closed, so let’s take a look at what’s going on there now. June 14th was the last day of operation for Shula’s Steakhouse, and now the location is permanently closed. The restaurant was named after its original owner and American football legend, the late Don Shula. Its atmosphere was indulgent, dark, and elegant, and we often called the pricey restaurant a hidden gem. Shula’s Steakhouse However, it’s now gone forever. We stopped by the Shula’s location to see for ourselves and saw a black curtain covering the restaurant’s entrance. While we were visiting the restaurant, though, we could already hear the sounds of construction. We recently reported that a new Michael Mina restaurant, Bourbon Steak, will be taking Shula’s place. Mina owns The MINA Group, which manages over 40 restaurants worldwide, so we’ll be interested in seeing what the new place has to offer. It’s officially closed So, when will this new restaurant make its debut? The opening timeline is mid-summer, which means it could open pretty soon. We’ll be keeping an eye out for progress and a specific opening date, so be sure to stay tuned to DFB for more. With DOZENS of places to eat at Disney World, we know it can be tough to plan your meals. That’s why we wrote the DFB Guide to Dining at Walt Disney World. A Disneyland vacation in 2026 is going to look mighty different… 70th Anniversary Castle Tribute in Disneyland With Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary Celebration and the DisneylandForward expansion project both OFFICIALLY underway, things are looking mighty different at the Anaheim resort. The celebration and construction will last long into 2026, with new experiences and obstacles presenting themselves in the coming year. With that in mind, it’s safe to say we won’t be doing Disneyland the same way in 2026. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), some Disneyland traditions will need to be altered in 2026. We’ve thought of five specifically that will have no place in the new year. Laughing Along With Mike and Sulley Over in Disney California Adventure, Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue is a fun little family dark ride that invokes plenty of giggles and sentiment. This underrated gem has survived a few demolition rumors over the years, but those rumors are finally coming to fruition in 2026. Mike and Sulley to the Rescue! The ride is closing for good in 2026 as parts of the Hollywood Backlot will be included in the new Avatar land in California Adventure. ©Disney While we’re excited to experience this brand-new Avatar expansion at the Disneyland Resort, it’s bittersweet. The Monsters, Inc. ride — which replaced Superstar Limo — really is adorable and will truly be missed. All the NEW Rides and Attractions at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure in 2025 and Beyond Watching “Paint the Night” and “Wondrous Journeys” The “Paint the Night” nighttime parade and “Wondrous Journeys” fireworks spectacular are both BACK at Disneyland for the 70th anniversary, and we couldn’t be happier! Both shows are world-class and definitely worth checking out if you find yourself at Disneyland Park during the evening. However, there is one major drawback. Paint the Night Parade As part of the 70th Anniversary Celebration, both shows have a shelf life. We’ve seen this trend with anniversary offerings before — they’re brought back for a limited time before they’re shelved again for years. “Paint the Night”, for example, has absences from the park as did its predecessor “The Main Street Electrical Parade” — which is still missed at Disneyland. Wondrous Journeys The anniversary celebrations will continue into the summer of 2026, which means you can expect both shows to no longer be available in the second half of 2026. Take advantage of their availability while you still can… We’ve Waited YEARS to See This Nighttime Disney Parade Again! Taking in the Esplanade The Disneyland Esplanade is the open area between Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure. Fituring donor bricks, fun music, and plenty of picture spots, this iconic area could be changing soon. Esplanade Disney recently revealed that the Disneyland Resort is getting a new esplanade experience as part of the inclusion of a new transportation hub. What those changes will entail exactly is still to be determined, but the concept art makes it look like the work is going to include, possibly, some serious changes. ©Disney A new parking structure and transportation hub will be built on the east side of Disneyland Resort, which will provide approximately 6,000 parking spaces, shuttle and rideshare areas, additional security screening, and dedicated access for traffic off of Disney Way. An all-new esplanade arrival experience is included in the plans. Disney’s NEW Transportation Hub Is Set to Bring BIG CHANGES Complaining About Avengers Campus Okay, so this might not technically be a Disneyland tradition, but that doesn’t mean people don’t love to complain about Avengers Campus. Avengers Campus Avengers Campus had so much promise when it opened in 2021, but has since received mixed reviews due to a lack of size, attractions, and dining options. Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure is fine, but there are folks who are really not impressed by it. Additionally, when the land was built, Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout already existed and has since remained the E-ticket attraction in the land without any real competition. The land needs more. The land is getting more. ©Disney Avengers Campus is getting a MASSIVE expansion that will add two new rides and more experiences — finally delivering on its promise to match the larger-than-life vibes of the superheroes it’s based on. So we guess our complaints will be on hold until the final product is completed. CONFIRMED: Construction Just Started on Disney’s Avengers Campus Expansion Buying Disneyland Resort Vacation Packages From Costco Costco really is a unique shopping experience that can include booking Disney vacations! Unfortunately, those looking to buy Disneyland vacation packages through Costco are no longer able to. ©Costco Wholesale While Costco will still honor existing vacation packages, the wholesale chain no longer sells Disneyland-specific reservations, despite having done so for many years. ©Costco You can still book Disney World, Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii, or Disney Cruise Line vacations through Costco if you’re a member, but Disneyland is off the table — at least for now. There’s always a chance this offer comes back, as there’s a chance that Costco just won’t ever offer the package ever again. We’ll keep you posted if this status changes. ©Costco Wholesale Things are rapidly changing at the Disneyland Resort, so it’s likely more traditions will be canceled in the future while new ones will be added. 19. It’s a great time to be a fan of Disney’s Zootopia. First, a whole Zootopia LAND opened last year at Shanghai Disney Resort. ©Disney Plus, Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Disney World is getting a brand new Zootopia attraction inside the Tree of Life (it’s replacing the now-closed It’s Tough To Be A Bug attraction). AND there’s a brand NEW Zootopia movie coming out later this year — and that’s something to get REALLY stoked about. Well, now, we’ve got some brand-new details about Zootopia 2. In an interview with Variety, Zootopia 2 director Jared Bush spoke a little bit about the movie, revealing a few new details. For example, Disney is currently testing a brand-new animation system called Presto. “It changed our whole pipeline and is being used on the next Zootopia movie,” Bush said. “We’re halfway into that system; some scenes use it, others don’t, depending on the characters.” ©Disney Bush also said that “sequels are tricky.” He pointed out that when it comes to sequels, moviegoers want the familiarity of the previous movies, but also expect something new. “The key is making sure any evolution feels organic and integral to the story. You can’t just change a character’s design for the sake of change. People can sense when it’s unearned.” He mentioned Moana 2, which gave audiences an aged-up version of Moana. ‘Zootopia 2’ Bush also spoke a little bit about introducing reptiles to the world of Zootopia in the sequel. “They move and behave differently than mammals. Telling their story required a different approach.” He explained, “It’s something we haven’t done in CG before, even though Disney has this rich history of animated snakes.” ©Disney Disney previously released a trailer for Zootopia 2, but it really didn’t give much away in terms of the plot. However, we know that the movie will see Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde meet a mysterious snake named Gary who arrives in Zootopia and turns the city upside down. Judy and Nick will have to go undercover to learn more about Gary, which will take them to new parts of the city AND test their friendship. The film brings back Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman as Judy and Nick, and will introduce Ke Huy Quan as Gary, the snake. Zootopia arrives in movie theaters on November 26th, so be sure to mark your calendars — and stay tuned to DFB for more. The Coolest Thing About Disney’s New Zootopia Land Might Be…the Bathrooms? 25. An underrated Disney World attraction is about to be done with its refurbishment! While this under-the-radar attraction never fully closed, we are excited that its refurbishment is about done. Winter Summerland Miniature Golf has been undergoing a refurbishment since April 28th, and it is about to be completed. Winter Summerland Mini Golf During the refurbishment, only one course was available at a time, so you couldn’t choose between the Summer or Winter course; you simply had to play the course that was open. But pretty soon, we will once again have choices when it comes to playing golf at Winter Summerland! While it was only kind of closed, we are excited it is about to be fully open! From April 28th until June 16th, 2025, Winter Summerland Miniature Golf will be undergoing refurbishment. However, even though it is getting refurbished, you can still stop by to play a round of golf. Only ONE course will be open at a time during the refurbishment, so you won’t have your choice of The Summer or The Winter Course; it will just be whichever one is open. Winter Summerland Mini Golf As well, Winter Summerland won’t be taking reservations during this time. If you are looking to play a round, you will just head over to the course as a walk-up. You can also head over to Fantasia Gardens and Fairways Miniature Golf if you are looking for even more mini golf fun. But, beginning June 17th, you will have choices at Winter Summerland! Let’s take a look at what other attractions and locations will be closed this week, June 14th through June 21st, at Disney World! Magic Kingdom Playground at Dumbo the Flying Elephant The indoor children’s playground inside the Dumbo the Flying Elephant queue closed for refurbishment on February 24th, 2025. While the playground is closed, the ride is still open and available for kids of all ages to soar through the sky! Dumbo The indoor playground is expected to reopen in Spring 2025. Hall of Presidents The Hall of Presidents closed at Magic Kingdom on January 20th. The attraction will be closed until later in 2025, though Disney has not shared a specific date. We will keep an eye out for updates, though! Hall of Presidents The closure is likely to change the current president, as January 20th marked Inauguration Day. While it is closed, other maintenance and routine work may also be happening. Recently, the inside has opened up for guests to explore and to get some much-needed A/C, but the show itself is not running. Astro Orbiter If you want to blast off into space, you’ll have to head over to Space Mountain because Astro Orbiter is temporarily closed for refurbishment. Astro Orbiter closed as of January 13th and is planned to reopen in the summer of 2025. No specific date has been announced for the high-in-the-sky ride, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for an update from Disney. Astro Orbiter The ride has been completely dismantled and is being refurbished elsewhere. It definitely looks a little barren as you are walking into Tomorrowland right now! However, Disney has filed a permit that could mean the attraction will soon be back in its place in Tomorrowland, and we are starting to see it getting reassembled. Construction walls are back, and the crane is in place to reassemble. WONDERFUL WAFFLE NEWS: Magic Kingdom’s BEST Snack Is BACK in Disney World Big Thunder Mountain Railroad On January 6th, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed for an extended temporary closure. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad The “Wildest Ride in the Wilderness” will be closed for at least a year and will reopen sometime in 2026. The ride will be undergoing maintenance while it is closed. When it reopens, it will have some “new magic,” according to Disney. We can’t wait to see what changes will be coming to this ever-popular roller coaster! We recently spotted some ride testing happening, which was very exciting. Tomorrowland Terrace Tomorrowland Terrace is a quick-service restaurant that has been closed since the 2020 pandemic-related closures, but even before that, this spot was only occasionally open. Fireworks Party at Tomorrowland Terrace Once in a while, you’ll see the dining room open as a rest area (and it’s still being used for the Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Parties), but it’s usually all roped off and empty. Disney hasn’t announced when this spot could finally reopen, but we’ll be watching for updates. If you’re looking for a nice spot to hang out in Disney World and take a rest, this could be it! Tortuga Tavern Just like Tomorrowland Terrace, Tortuga Tavern is a seasonal restaurant in Magic Kingdom. It has been a bit since we saw it open. Most recently, it was used as a cookie location for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Tortuga Tavern We had previously spotted shrubs around the restaurant as they worked on the flooring. However, all the shrubs have been taken down now. We don’t know exactly when/if this restaurant will reopen, but we will keep you updated if we learn more! In Less Than One Month, Magic Kingdom Will Be Totally Different EPCOT Test Track Test Track closed on June 17th, 2024, and Disney is giving this ride a BIG makeover! Disney has shared that the new version of Test Track will take inspiration from the old ride, World of Motion, that was originally there when the park opened in 1982. We recently spotted a new Test Track sign make its debut in the courtyard. Plus, the gift shop has a new sign and a new name, Test Track Gear Shop. Test Track Disney shared more details at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Experience, and an updated opening timeline was announced! We’ll be able to ride Test Track once again in late summer 2025. We have gotten a look at the new Test Track cars, too. Recently, we have even been hearing vehicles running on the track. We are getting closer and closer to its reopening! NEW EPCOT Food and Wine Festival Trends We Expect to See in 2025 Disney’s Animal Kingdom It’s Tough to Be a Bug It’s Tough to Be a Bug is officially closed for good. This attraction in Disney’s Animal Kingdom once invited you to join the bug kingdom on an adventure. While the show didn’t usually make it to the top of favorite attractions in Disney World, it has now officially closed to make way for a new show. It’s Tough To Be a Bug It’s Tough to Be a Bug closed on March 17th. The show is permanently closed to make way for a brand-new show, “Zootopia: Better Zoogether!”, expected to debut in winter 2025. TriceraTop Spin, Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures, and Fossil Fun Games The first round of closures began in DinoLand U.S.A. on January 13th, 2025. TriceraTop Spin, Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures, and Fossil Fun Game were closed down, and construction has begun on the brand-new land themed to the Tropical Americas, Pueblo Esperanza. The walls have been up since the closure, and things have been disappearing from behind the walls. Almost everything has been taken down behind the walls, including the large green dinosaur. DinoLand, U.S.A. It is definitely a sad sight, but we are also excited to see Pueblo Esperanza! DINOSAUR, Restaurantosaurus, the snack stands, and The Boneyard remain open. Disney hasn’t announced an official closing date for the rest of DinoLand. However, they have announced that “2025 is your year to visit before it goes extinct!” Disney’s Animal Kingdom Is Planning a Dramatic Attraction Overhaul — Here’s Everything We Know Disney’s Hollywood Studios Muppets Courtyard including Muppet*Vision 3D, PizzeRizzo, and Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano Muppet*Vision 3D AND PizzeRizzo closed on June 8th, and Muppets Courtyard has been walled off so construction can begin on the new Monsters, Inc. land. Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano has been closed since May 11th. Construction Walls up in Disney’s Hollywood Studios Don’t worry, the Muppets won’t be missing from Disney’s Hollywood Studios forever. The Muppets will eventually be taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in 2026. NEW FUNNEL CAKE ALERT! Is This Hollywood Studios Snack Worth Trying? Disney Springs Starbucks on the West Side The Starbucks on the West Side of Disney Springs is temporarily closed for refurbishment. It closed on March 3rd, and it is expected to reopen in mid-summer. Starbucks is currently closed Have no fear, though — you can still get your Starbucks fix in Disney Springs! Head over to the Disney Springs Marketplace location, which will be open during the refurbishment. Caffeine headaches are not allowed in Disney Springs! Forget The Park Ticket! 2 Limited Time Drinks Are Available NOW At Disney Springs Disney World Hotels Shula’s Steak House — Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel Shula’s Steak House is about to close for good! This steak house, located inside the Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel, is accepting its last reservations on June 14th and will be closing for good on June 15th. Shula’s Steakhouse Shula’s Steak House will be closing to make way for a new restaurant, Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina. This will be the tenth location of Bourbon Steak and the third location in Florida. We are expecting Bourbon Steak to make its debut sometime in mid-summer 2025. Jellyrolls — Disney’s BoardWalk Jellyrolls at Disney’s BoardWalk officially closed on April 19th, 2025. This entertainment venue has provided our team with countless memories, and we know many others are also sad to see it close. Jellyrolls had its final farewell performance on April 19th and closed its doors forever on Disney’s BoardWalk. Jellyrolls However, this isn’t the end for Jellyrolls, as the bar has said they are “making a move.” We don’t know many details about that move yet, but we will keep you updated. Stormalong Bay and Hurricane Hanna’s– Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts Stormalong Bay is the shared pool between Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts. It features a beach, a lazy river, a large pool, and an exciting pirate ship slide! When we stopped by recently, we noticed that the pool had been filled back up with water. We are getting closer to its reopening. Stormalong Bay This pool area will be closed until June for refurbishment. While it’s closed, hotel guests can use the Tidal (Beach Club), Admiral (Yacht Club), and Dunes Cove (Beach Club) leisure pools. Hurricane Hanna’s, the pool bar at Stormalong Bay, will also be closed during the refurbishment.
