  1. We are big fans of cruises in the Food Blog household! ©Carnival From the Disney Cruise Line to Carnival cruises and everything in between, there’s nothing that beats relaxing out on the open seas — or so we thought! Now, there’s been a huge change to the Carnival Cruise Line that might just make us book a vacation ASAP. When it comes to cruise lines, we don’t have a preference! Anytime we can relax in the middle of the open ocean with some tasty food right on hand, we’re a happy crew. There is one subtle thing, though, that will make us prefer one cruise line over another, and it might seem silly, but it’s important to us. ©Carnival So what is this one thing that matters? The soda, of course! We are team Coca Cola at this blog, so Carnival Cruise Line’s latest news has us cheering from the top deck. After 5 years, the cruise line is switching back from Pepsi to Coke products on all of their cruises! We love an ice-cold Coke! This includes all sodas, sugar-free drinks, and sparkling flavored water on the ships. Guests will be able to cool off with drinks like Coke, Sprite, Fanta, Powerade, Topo Chico, and Fairlife! President of Carnival Cruise Line, Christine Duffy, said, “We are excited to welcome back Coca-Cola’s diverse lineup of beverages, which our guests love and which will enhance the food and beverage experience that is always part of a great cruise vacation on Carnival.” We need one of these ASAP! The switch will begin at the end of the summer, and the cruise line anticipates that the switch will be completed on its North American ships by the end of September. The Australian-based ships already serve the Coca-Cola brand. ©Carnival The two companies describe this as “the perfect partnership,” and we tend to agree! While this might not seem like a big deal to some, we know that when asked in a restaurant, Pepsi is not okay. (Sorry to Pepsi, we just love a cold Coke.) This is a small but big deal to us, and we can’t wait for the switch! As always, be sure to keep following DFB for more travel news and updates. I’m a Former Disney World Cast Member. 2. It’s my job to go to the Disney World parks, and for probably 70% of the year, it’s pretty hot. Cinderella Castle And the weather? It can have a pretty big effect on how your mood swings during a day in the theme parks. That’s why it’s important to take breaks and keep cool! I’m a certified expert in that area, and today I’m sharing my list of places where I go in Magic Kingdom when it’s just TOO. DANG. HOT. Carousel of Progress Starting off the list, I have probably one of the most-recommended places to beat the heat while also sneaking in a midday nap — Carousel of Progress! This 20-minute show in Tomorrowland rarely has a wait, and the theater is indoors, air-conditioned, and has very comfy seats. Fall on Carousel of Progress Plus, the show is just really fun in general, especially if you’re a Disney history nerd. Who doesn’t love a catchy theme song with a show that gives you the nostalgia of the good ol’ days?! Pinocchio Village Haus My next choice may surprise you a little, but hear me out — Pinocchio Village Haus is one of my favorite places to escape when it’s hot and crowded in Disney World because of a little-known secret. It has a hidden upstairs seating area! Upstairs at Pinocchio In the middle of the restaurant, there’s an often-overlooked staircase that leads to balcony seating. Many times, I’ve found empty tables up here in the air-conditioning where I can sit with my lunch in peace and (relative) quiet. And if the inside of the restaurant is full, you can head to the outdoor balcony, which is still in the shade! Hall of Presidents For a chill experience similar to Carousel of Progress, I recommend checking out Hall of Presidents. Before the show, you can wander around or take a seat inside the museum-like foyer, and then during the show, you’ll get a cushioned theater chair for approximately 25 minutes while you learn the history of the American presidents. Hall of Presidents This could be another contender for a great nap spot, or just a place to sit and cool off for half an hour. You’ve got one long indoor theater show to watch in Tomorrowland and one long indoor theater show to watch in Liberty Square! Town Square Theater Speaking of theaters, I’m going to recommend you head to Town Square Theater! While this spot isn’t actually home to a show, it IS home to two gift shops, a small seating area, and a Mickey Mouse meet-and-greet. And you guys? The air conditioning in here is GREAT. Mickey Mouse Honestly, I would (and have!) gladly wait in line to meet Mickey Mouse because the entire queue is indoors, and it’s nice and cool. Plus, it’s just generally good manners to go greet Mickey when you visit his house! The Emporium Need to kill a little bit of time and want to enjoy some AC along the way? Take a stroll through The Emporium! This massive gift shop has room after room of souvenirs, and you could spend a good amount of time just strolling around and looking at things. The Emporium As long as you avoid this store first thing in the morning, at the end of the night, and right after the parade, it shouldn’t be terribly crowded. Step in here for a cool break! Columbia Harbour House Another restaurant with a quiet upstairs seating area is Columbia Harbour House in Liberty Square. This quick service spot has a TON of seating and a delicious menu full of some more unique options. Upstairs dining area One of my favorite tricks on a hot day is to Mobile Order a cold beverage and then find a seat upstairs here directly under an air conditioning vent. And if you snag a table near a window, you can do some great people-watching! Plaza Restaurant One of the best ways to beat the heat in Disney World is to enjoy a cold treat, and one of the best spots to do that in Magic Kingdom is at Plaza Ice Cream Parlor. Unfortunately, the ice cream parlor doesn’t have indoor seating, so instead I recommend snagging a reservation at Plaza Restaurant next door! Plaza Restaurant Here, you can order the same ice cream treats alongside some American classics for your meal. The dining room is fairly small, so it can be a challenge to grab a reservation, but it’s almost always worth it in my experience! Space Mountain When it comes to indoor rides, one of the ones I like to recommend on a hot day is Space Mountain. It has a TON of indoor queue, so you’ll be in the air conditioning for quite a while. Space Mountain Plus, once you get to the end of the queue, you’ll get the chance to ride one of the most iconic Disney World roller coasters. It’s a must-do! Pirates of the Caribbean Another great line to wait in during the hottest part of the day is Pirates of the Caribbean. Part of the ride queue is in the shade, while the other half is indoors entirely. Generally, we’re pretty comfy while waiting in line here. Pirates of the Caribbean And as rides go, this one is nearly 10 minutes long, so you get a decent amount of time sitting down. Add in the spraying water effects, and you’ll hop off this classic attraction nice and chilled! Merchant of Venus Last but not least, I have to mention Merchant of Venus! This spot has been a seating area since the parks reopened from the pandemic, and it’s attached to Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies, where you can order some cold treats. Merchant of Venus With air-conditioned tables, a Fuel Rod station, and plenty of snacks next door, this is a great spot to stop and relax for a little while in the middle of a long day. So that’s a wrap on the list of places where I go when it’s too dang hot in Magic Kingdom! To learn more tips for your Disney World trip, check out the video below. 3. The holidays will be at Disney World before we know it, and Disney’s already confirming a few returning popular offerings! Cinderella Castle Dream Lights gingerbread display (2024) Christmas time at Disney World can be one of the merriest seasons to visit all year long! With so much holiday decor, food, festivals, and exclusive ticketed parties to celebrate there’s something for everyone to find here. But, there’s one specific offering we pay special attention to each year as they come around and it seems Disney has just quietly confirmed we’ll be seeing them soon! One of our favorite things to do around Disney World during the holiday season is hunt down all of the special Christmas offerings around Disney’s hotels. There’s something truly special about spending some time out of the hustle and bustle of the parks and taking a stroll to see some incredible holiday displays in everything from food, to theming and decor. Hollywood Studios Christmas tree But one of our most cherished memories is getting a look at the larger than life gingerbread displays peppered throughout Disney World’s hotels! Each year you’ll find us hanging on Disney’s every announcement counting down to the days when we see each of them arrive at their respective hotels. Gingerbread BoardWalk Deli We’ve come to appreciate the craftsmanship, artistry, and imagination it takes to make these creations come to life before our eyes and now it seems Disney is ready to confirm that we’ll be seeing them again later this year! Earlier when Disney World announced multiple holiday offerings coming to Disney World for Christmas, there was a small (but mighty) note that gingerbread displays would be found around some of the hotels once as the season begins. Jacob Marley horse While there’s still lots to learn about exactly which hotels will have these massive displays return, where exactly they’ll pop up, and how soon we can expect them its reassuring to know that we have returning holiday offerings coming back to Disney World soon. 4. Disney World can be an escape for all of us — and sometimes that means doing a few extra things that make us feel a bit fancier. We’ve eaten at several restaurants around Disney World that give us a classy, upscale vibe, but none quite as exclusive as dining at the Four Seasons. Ravello We recently stopped by Ravello at the Four Seasons Orlando to see if it was the best way to start out our day at Disney World, and now we’re bringing you our FULL review. Is it worthy of a stop a little bit out of the way on your next trip? Find out here! Atmosphere Good tRavello is one of several restaurants offered within the Four Seasons Orlando Hotel. It requires a reservation in advance. This sophisticated restaurant offers a modern take on fine Italian cuisine within a luxurious setting. Inside But even in this sleek setting, Disney characters occasionally get in on the fun in the mornings at the “Good Morning Breakfast with Goofy and His Pals” buffet breakfast, which takes place on Thursday and Saturday mornings, as well as select Tuesdays. And when Goofy and his pals aren’t visiting for breakfast, the menu features a la carte selections in addition to the buffet. Additionally, Ravello is also open in the evening for dinner; however, for this review, we wanted to experience what all the fuss was about during breakfast and how it would set the tone for our day at Disney World. Seating But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?! Menu As we mentioned before, the menu here offers buffet and entree options. The breakfast buffet for adults starts at $45, and children aged 3-9 are $25. You’ll also have several entrée options to choose from, including Chef’s Selections… ©Disney …healthy starts and items from the griddle… ©Disney …as well as eggs and more! ©Disney And now, onto the main event — the food! Eats First up, we had to spring for the Breakfast Buffet, which will run you $45. This is made up of about every breakfast station you could hope for. From stations filled with fresh fruit and pastries to an avocado toast station and made-to-order omelets and so much more, there are so many options to serve the whole family. The omelet station even had a specialty omelet of the day, which was Caprese Omelet, when we visited. We saw items from salads, bacon, sausage, eggs, cereals, and pancakes, along with plenty of sauces and condiments and even fresh honeycomb. Station On our plate, we piled on an apple pastry, mango parfait, scrambled eggs, bacon, and potato wedges. The mango parfait was smooth and delicious, with chunks of mangoes in it with a cinnamon glaze on top, which took it to the next level. Our plate The potato wedges were crispy on the outside, and that perfect texture in the middle was covered in a delicious seasoning. Toppings area We’re pretty picky about our bacon and scrambled eggs, but we were so blown away! The scrambled eggs were not oily or buttery but almost melted in your mouth. They were creamy and gooey, mixed with a bit of cheddar cheese. We had no idea that buffet scrambled eggs could be so good! Pastries For the bacon, there was a variety of different options from crispy to less, and we love our bacon nice and crispy. We appreciated having options for everything, and it was exactly how we liked it. BACON! We also grabbed the Dolce Latte French Toast for $24. This dish is made of Thick Cut Brioche, Milk, Strawberries, Blueberries, Kiwi, and Passion Fruit Whipped Cream. Because we also got the buffet, our added-on dish was only $10! French Toast We’ve tried some pretty memorable French toast in our lives, and this was one of them. It was fluffy, buttered, and toasted. It was light and not too crunchy or soggy, and the fresh fruit complemented it perfectly. For the add-on being only $10, this feels like a hidden perk! SO good Nosh or Not This restaurant is a must-visit if… You love a good breakfast buffet You are looking for a casual breakfast but with an elevated experience You’re a lover of delicious foods, and getting to pick a variety You should skip this spot if… You prefer a lower-cost option You don’t like buffets and prefer a plated breakfast You aren’t staying at the Four Seasons Orlando, or wanting to travel to the hotel So many options Overall We’ve eaten at a lot of breakfast buffets, but very few have blown us away. The breakfast here was phenomenal! We loved the variety of options and getting to pick all of the items ourselves, as well as having the choice to add on a dish. Every item we had was cooked to perfection, and while this might not be the buffet we visit as frequently due to the price when we want an elevated experience, we’re coming straight here. In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Disney World and beyond. Make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more! 5. Let me start with this: I love skincare. At home, my bathroom counter looks like a mini drugstore. I double cleanse, I layer serums, I rotate moisturizers based on my skin’s mood, and I’m religious about sunscreen. Hello, London! But when I travel overseas? Especially with my carry-on-only lifestyle? I get ruthless. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Skincare purists, look away — here are the three skincare rules I break every time I go abroad, and why I don’t feel bad about it. I Use Makeup Removing Wipes — and Not Even the Refillable Kind At home, I use a gentle oil cleanser to melt away makeup. But when I’m flying and living out of a carry-on, oil cleansers are more trouble than they’re worth. TSA rules turn every liquid into a strategic decision, and let’s be honest — one leaked bottle of oil cleanser could take out my whole suitcase. Instead, I pack individually wrapped Neutrogena makeup remover wipes. They’re not the most barrier-friendly option (my skin definitely prefers oils), but they’re compact, convenient, and don’t count toward my liquid limit. The single-use packaging also keeps them from drying out between uses — unlike a giant pack, which I’d never finish on one trip anyway. ©Amazon Are they my skincare holy grail? Nope. But are they my travel MVP? Absolutely. CHECK PRICE ON AMAZON I Wash My Face (and Body) with a Bar of Dove Soap Cue every esthetician I know cringing — but yes, I use a bar of soap to wash my face when I travel. ©Amazon Specifically, I bring a Dove Sensitive Skin Beauty Bar. It’s gentle and fragrance-free, and — you guessed it — solid. No TSA worries, no spills, and it multitasks for both face and body. It’s simple, effective, and honestly, kind of nostalgic. My grandmother swore by Dove soap, and while I normally opt for fancier liquid cleansers at home, Dove gets the job done when I’m traveling light. CHECK PRICE ON AMAZON (Pro tip: I pack mine in a soap case with a drainage tray in the bottom — it keeps the bar from turning into a soggy mess.) ©Amazon CHECK PRICE ON AMAZON I Use One Moisturizer for Everything Face. Neck. Hands. Body. Daytime. Nighttime. I don’t bring a lineup — I bring a single small jar of Cerave Moisturizing Cream and call it a day. At home, I tailor my moisturizer to the time of day, how my skin is behaving, and whether I will be wearing makeup over it. But on the road? I need something that plays well in any climate, is rich enough for dry hotel air, and gentle enough for sensitive skin. Cerave’s Moisturizing Cream is my all-around workhorse. ©Amazon CHECK PRICE ON AMAZON I decant it into a small silicone travel jar and it goes with me everywhere! ©Amazon CHECK PRICE ON AMAZON Could I bring separate moisturizers for morning and night? Sure. But I’d rather save that space for local snacks and souvenirs. Traveling light — especially overseas — means making compromises. And for me, skincare is one area where I simplify. I don’t worry too much about a few days of minimalist routines. My skin might not look glassy by the end of the trip, but it’s healthy, happy, and hydrated — and I didn’t have to check a bag to get there. Sometimes, the best skincare routine is the one that fits in your carry-on! I Travel Full-Time. 6. Recently, Disney has announced new lands, attractions, and entertainment headed to the theme parks, new ships coming to the Disney Cruise Line, and so much more. But, what about those projects that Disney hasn’t exactly announced yet? Magic Kingdom Keeping up with the latest construction permits Disney World files can be a great way to find out just what is going on around the parks and hotels, and we recently spotted some you might want to know about! We’re always on the hunt for the latest construction permits filed by Disney to get an idea of what sort of changes might be coming to the parks, and here’s what we found this time around — starting with Magic Kingdom. Cinderella Castle We spotted a new permit for “it’s a small world” that is listed as “General Construction,” meaning it doesn’t get a whole lot more specific. We do know that new changes are coming to this ride in the form of updated song lyrics, so we’ll have to wait and see if this permit has anything to do with additional changes. “it’s a small world” Over in Adventureland, a new permit was recently filed for some electrical work over at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe. This work likely won’t impact the restaurant’s operations or any upcoming visits, but we’ll let you know if that changes! Pecos Bill Zooming over to Tomorrowland, where another quick-service spot is getting some TLC — this time, it’s Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe! A permit for mechanical work was recently filed for this spot. Like Pecos Bill’s, we don’t anticipate this impacting your trip — but it’s good to know either way. Food from Cosmic Ray’s Over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we’re sadly watching the demise of DinoLand U.S.A. as Disney begins its transformation to Pueblo Esperanza. While much of the land has already closed, part of it remains open — including Restaurantosaurus. A new permit was filed for general construction, but it appears it might not be anything too dramatic yet, as the contractor on file is an electrician. Restaurantosaurus In the meantime, we’ll be on the hunt for new updates from Disney World and more — so stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest news! 9. When it comes to dining at Disney World, you’ve got a TON of options — so how do you know what to choose? Don’t worry, that’s where we come in. Sommerfest We recently stopped by Sommerfest in the Germany Pavilion at EPCOT to try a new CHEESE DIP (!!!), and now we’re bringing you our FULL review. Is it worth a stop on your next trip to the Most Magical Place on Earth? Find out here! Heads up, cheese fans! There’s a new cheese dip available at EPCOT, and of course, you know we had to try it. We tried the new Jumbo Pretzel with Obatzda Cheese Dip for $13.49 from Sommerfest. Pretzels are no stranger to the Germany Pavilion, but the Obatzda Cheese Dip is new! So, what does it taste like? Jumbo Pretzel with Obatzda Cheese Dip If you’ve never heard of Obatzda cheese before, it’s a traditional Bavarian cheese spread that’s typically made with Camembert or Brie and mixed with butter and spices, and sometimes beer. Cheese AND butter AND spices?! Sign us up. The cheese dip was somewhat reminiscent of a pimento dip if you’re familiar with that. It’s got some similar spices to it, just none of the actual heat to the pimento, like you might think, but it’s very soft and fluffy. It had a whipped consistency but was still thick — not like a loose queso or something. It was cheesy, creamy, and had some depth of flavor thanks to the spices. Cheese dip The pretzel itself is classic — a standard jumbo soft pretzel with salt. The outside was crispy and the inside was fluffy — though we wish there had been a bit more salt on it. It’s definitely preferable to Mickey pretzels, if you ask us! In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Disney World and beyond. 10. We may be a food blog, but that doesn’t mean we sit around eating lobster thermidor and scallops every day. We’re normal people — we like the simple stuff, too! Chicken tenders? Yeah, we still eat ’em. Mickey-shaped snacks? They still bring us joy. Corn dog nuggets? Who said they’re just for kids?! Speaking of snacks that make us happy, we need to talk about our meal at Mama’s Snack Stop at Disney’s Aulani Resort. Let’s head to the Snack Stop! It’s no secret that the DFB team LOVES Corn Dog Nuggets, formally known as Mini Corn Dogs or Corn Dog Bites. There’s something about those little bundles of beef (and whatever else is in a hot dog) that really hits the spot when you’re on vacation. Now, we’ve been longtime fans of the Mini Corn Dogs at Casey’s Corner in Magic Kingdom, but what if we told you that there’s ANOTHER place to get corn dog nuggs…and they might be even better. During our stay at Disney’s Aulani Resort, we ate a TON of great food. But in between those fancier meals, we had to grab a snack, and what better place to go than Mama’s Snack Stop? The menu is pretty basic — they’ve got a local take on Fish & Chips, an Ono Sandwich, Breaded Shrimp, and Chicken Fingers — and all entrees are priced at $18. If you want a lighter snack, you can pick up some Mozzarella Sticks, French Fries, and Corn Dog Nuggets, a.k.a. Mini corn Dog Bites. If you know us, you also know that SAUCE is very important to our team. You can’t have a proper meal without a little dipping sauce, right?! This snack spot has a great mix of sauces. We LOVE sauce around here! Ultimately, we went with the Mini Corn Dog Bites, which are batter-wrapped mini beef franks with yellow and spicy mustard. You can get them for $12. For comparison, you can get Mini Corn Dogs with a choice of French Fries or a Cuties Mandarin at Magic Kingdom for $10.99, so these are definitely on the expensive side. Fries are NOT included at Aulani, either. That’ll be an extra $7. Corn Dog Nuggets Yes, these are not cheap. But the flavor? Impeccable. We thought that these were *better* than the ones served at Casey’s Corner in Magic Kingdom. Yes, really! The mini beef franks tasted like high-quality, meaty, well-flavored beef, and the cornmeal batter was slightly sweeter (just a touch!) than what we’re used to at Casey’s. HEAVEN! What did we learn here? They’re hiding the good stuff at Aulani! These corn dog nuggets surprised us — we were NOT expecting to enjoy them as much as we did. Who knew! This tiny, unassuming little snack spot is the place to go if you like corn dogs. Trust us. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the best Disney snacks, so stay tuned for more. Now, we finally know what’s confirmed to return for the 2025 holiday season. Christmas time in Disney World is closer than you think! There are over 20 things Disney finally confirmed when it comes to the holidays around the resort, starting off with the dates. Christmas at Magic Kingdom The holiday season will be here in just a few months, and if you’re heading to Disney World during those months at the end of the year, you’ll want to know what’s available for your trip. Well, Disney just dropped some news for the holidays, including an update on Disney Starlight! Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away is a NEW nighttime parade that’s premiering later this month in Magic Kingdom. The parade is currently scheduled to show twice a night starting July 20th, and it features all-new floats with many fan-favorite characters. ©Disney In its holiday announcements, Disney has confirmed that this parade will continue to run through the holiday season; however, it will NOT run on nights that Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party takes place. Typically, that party offers its own nighttime parade — Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade. ©Disney So if you’re heading to Magic Kingdom during your trip, you may want to plan an extra day to visit the park outside of the party, that way you can experience this offering! In addition to the parade, there will be plenty of holiday offerings in Magic Kingdom, like special decorations, the Frozen Holiday Surprise show, and the Jingle Cruise ride overlay. Let’s take a ride! We can’t wait to see what else is offered this Christmas and holiday season, and we’ll make sure to update you with more as Disney reveals the news! 25. SeaWorld Orlando has revealed two of the five haunted houses slated for this year’s Howl-O-Scream event. One of them is new content, and the other is a returning theme. It’s also posted two returning scare zones. The new house is called The Collector’s Curse, which involves an estate hosted by the title character. The Collector “lures guests with rare relics and ancient artifacts,” SeaWorld says. But there’s also “a twisted underworld of cursed creations and monstrous mutations.” The returning house is Farm 51, which again features a rural home “with the terrifying aftermath of an extraterrestrail encounter.” The returning scare zones indentified so far are Blood Light District (keywords: seductive shadows, tempation, vampires) and Cannibal Harbor (decaying port, haunted docks, fishermen who hunt the living). Howl-O-Scream will have six scare zones this year, and four of them will carry new themes, SeaWorld says. There will also be a pair of roaming hordes, five themed bars, live entertainment and “never-before-seen surprises,” according to the Howl-O-Scream website. The after-hours/extra-ticket event will be held 28 nights between Sept. 6 and Nov. 1. The park is selling single-night Howl-O-Scream tickets, unlimited-admission passes, front-of-line tickets and bundles, including one that throws in admission to the Howl-O-Scream event at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, SeaWorld’s sister park. It will be the fifth year that SeaWorld Orlando has held a fright fest for “mature audiences.” The park continues its kid-friendly daylight Halloween programming called Spooktacular, which is included with regular theme park admission beginning Aug. 30.
