  1. We have several former Disney Cast Members on the DFB team, and they’re dishing on some of the secret requirements of working at Disney World. We LOVE Cast Members! Being a Disney World Cast Member comes with a long set of rules and regulations, including some specific dress codes. These codes can be based on specific roles and locations, but they exist, nevertheless. The former Cast Members on our team revealed what kind of shoes they were required to wear, and, as it turns out, we can see ourselves — and maybe even YOU –looking to buy a pair! DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. According to our team, the shoe requirements could get super strict, especially about logos, contrast stitching, piping, and color. The main rule is that shoes usually have to be all one color with no logos, and usually in white or black (some places allow brown boots). Food service locations require shoes to be non-slip. When you’re working on difficult surfaces that can be slippery or rough like sandpaper, shoe type matters significantly. Cast Members! One of our team members said they wore all-black HOKA Bond sneakers and still swears by them! ©Amazon The HOKA Bondi 9 Sneakers are available on Amazon in a few different style/color choices — including black! While they do have a logo, it is faded in, making this shoe pretty inconspicuous — which is ideal if you’re going for that look. ©Amazon Durable and built for lots of walking, standing, and physical activity, they’re perfect for Disney Park days or anything that requires strong foot support. ©Amazon These shoes also include extra cushioning, providing tons of support. Some fans of the shoe note that walking in them feels like “walking on pillows!” You can pick up a pair in your size TODAY on Amazon! BUY ON AMAZON Are you a fan of HOKA shoes? 2. If you’re at Disney World today, here’s a heads up on the weather! A rainy Hollywood Studios A storm, Invest 93-L, will be moving over Central Florida throughout the day. Expect your Disney day to be filled with lots of rain, with possibly up to three inches of it in some areas. Here’s what you need to know, and what you can do! Although the storm is looking a little better and more organized than it was, there is a concern about possible flooding in Orange County. There is also a chance of lightning to be aware of. It’s a rainy day in Disney World According to WESH 2, “93-L will move into the Gulf on Wednesday, where it will continue to act like a water hose, pumping a lot of moisture toward Central Florida so rain chances remain high for us through late week regardless of any tropical development.” Rainy day in Disney World We’re in that time of year in Florida…hurricane season, which runs from June 1st to November 30th. We’re also going to see stormy weather and rain start to pick up throughout the summer! Rain can suck when at Disney World, especially when it’s unexpected. So what can you do to make sure your day doesn’t get ruined, and you stay dry? Disney World Expect It The first thing that helps on a rainy day is simply expecting it. So, if it’s your first time coming to Disney World this summer, just be aware that you could be seeing rain multiple times. Keep checking the Disney World app because a few rides may shut down due to lightning! Storms can hit Disney World often Bring Proper Shoes Make sure you have appropriate footwear for the weather. Some shoes aren’t meant for the water, and will keep your socks drenched all day long. Not a pleasant feeling! That goes the same with that nice pair of Jordans or Nike Dunks you’ve got; if you don’t want them to get wet, maybe go with something else. Flooding in Disney World Bring Rain Gear Umbrellas, rain ponchos, stroller coverings, bring whatever you’ll need to keep yourself dry. Even if you think it won’t rain, make sure you bring it with you, because it probably will at some point. Ponchos in the parks are really expensive, and they can sell out. So just be prepared ahead of time so you can still enjoy your day if and when it rains! Flooding in Disney World The Best Park on Rainy Days We think that Magic Kingdom is the best park for a rainy day because there are so many indoor attractions and locations. When it’s raining, being indoors is the best thing you can do! We also think that Magic Kingdom is great if you want to leave the parks while it’s raining because you can quickly hop on the resort monorail and go check out some hotels while it rains! Watch out for flooding in Disney World! We hope you enjoy your Disney World trip this week! Make sure to stay safe and stay dry. 4. We need to talk about overpriced food in EPCOT. UK Pavilion We love a good snack run just as much as the next Disney fan, but lately we’ve seen a frustrating trend pop up—Disney adults shelling out way too much cash for food items that have cheaper (and sometimes better) alternatives just steps away. You don’t have to empty your wallet to get your fish and chips fix. Today we’re calling it out, especially in EPCOT’s UK Pavilion, where some folks are overpaying big time—and don’t even realize it. Here’s what you should be doing instead. Dropping Big Bucks at Rose & Crown for Fish and Chips Okay, this one hurts because yes, the Rose & Crown Pub is iconic. The waterfront view is great, and the vibes are cozy and classic. But if you’re rolling in just to order the Fish and Chips… we have to stop you right there. Rose & Crown Pub The same style of crispy, golden fish served with thick-cut fries (sorry, “chips”) can be found right next door at Yorkshire County Fish Shop—for way less. We’re talking about nearly identical fish, fried fresh, for a fraction of the sit-down price. Plus, you don’t need to fight for a reservation. Grab a quick service portion, snag a bench by the water, and enjoy the same UK experience without draining your budget. Yorkshire County Fish Shop You’re paying for the setting at Rose & Crown, not the food. And unless you really need the indoor seating, it’s just not worth it. Overpaying for Beer You Can Find at Your Grocery Store We get it—grabbing a pint at an EPCOT pub feels like the right thing to do. You’re in the UK Pavilion, after all! But if you’re ordering a Guinness or a Bass Ale at Rose & Crown (or worse, from one of the pop-up carts in the area), you’re basically buying a six-pack one pint at a time. Imperial Pint These beers are widely available at any grocery store back home. There’s nothing “special” about them in the context of EPCOT besides the location. And while there’s nothing wrong with a casual drink in the park, it can be frustrating to spend $11-$14 for a pour that could cost under $4 at Publix. Scottish Thistle If you’re looking to sip something interesting, go for the ciders or try one of the more unique seasonal pours that pop up during festivals. Otherwise, don’t get tricked into thinking the pub makes the beer taste better. It doesn’t. So, What Should You Do Instead? We’re not saying skip the UK Pavilion entirely (please don’t—it’s lovely). But don’t fall for the illusion that more expensive automatically means better or more authentic. There are smarter ways to snack around the World Showcase without draining your vacation budget. UK Pavilion at EPCOT Start paying attention to the snack hacks. The World Showcase is full of hidden gems that beat out the “obvious” picks. Need fish and chips? Yorkshire’s your go-to. Need a beer? Try something festival-exclusive or grab your favorite later at your resort (or even better, before you get to the park). Fish and Chips Disney adults, we love your passion. We are you. But let’s be smart about where the dollars go. This isn’t about skipping good food—it’s about skipping the overpriced versions of it when better, cheaper options are right in front of us. And if you do still want to sit down and splurge? No shame. Just know you’ve got options—and they might actually taste better, too. 5. There are so many new and exciting additions coming to Disneyland! Disneyland At D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, so many new projects were announced for both Disney World and Disneyland. It was revealed that Avengers Campus would double the number of rides currently in the land. Also in Disney California Adventure, a new ‘Coco’ boat ride was announced along with an ‘Avatar’ expansion. While a majority of the changes are taking place in DCA, Disneyland will be getting a new attraction that will rotate with Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. We have finally gotten a look at what the new animatronic in this new show will look like. Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln was created for the 1964 New York World’s Fair. Walt Disney was fascinated with the life of Abraham Lincoln, and this show debuted the first Audio-Animatronics version of Lincoln. The show is now on Disneyland’s Main Street, and soon it will rotate with a new show about Walt Disney himself! Main Street Opera House welcomes Walt Disney — A Magical Life The show is called “Walt Disney — A Magical Life” and will be presented in the Main Street Opera House. “Walt Disney — A Magical Life” For the first time in history, guests will “see Walt Disney through the magic of Audio-Animatronics technology.” The show is set to make its debut in 2025. As mentioned, the show will rotate with Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, but for the show’s initial run, it will be the only show playing at the Main Street Opera House. “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln” When the new attraction was announced at D23, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro shared, “Creating our first Walt figure is a huge responsibility,” and “I speak for our entire team when I say there is so much pride and excitement for everyone involved in this endeavor.” Exhibits inside the queue This Walt Disney figure is a BIG deal, and when we saw him, well, we had thoughts (as did the rest of the internet). Walt Disney — A Magical Life Our reporters thought it was a stunning tribute to Walt Disney and Disneyland, and truly believed the movement was so lifelike. They thought this was for the true Disney Adults of the group, and while many will skip this attraction, it’s a great honor to Walt. They did think that his face wasn’t quite what they were expecting, but they could see the resemblance. Walt Disney — A Magical Life What do guests have to say about it? When we posted videos and pictures on Instagram, we received real-time feedback on what everyone thought. Some said, “I think we all want to love it, but don’t,” and others said, “It doesn’t look like him. It doesn’t sound like him.” Although audio was taken from these recorded speeches, many felt that it didn’t sound like Walt. “Walt Disney – A Magical Life” debuts at the Main Street Opera House in Disneyland Park in Anaheim, Calif., on July 17, 2025. The attraction features a cinematic presentation of Walt Disney’s journey, culminating in a visit with Walt in his office, made possible through the magic of Audio-Animatronics storytelling. (Richard Harbaugh/Disneyland Resort) One poster said, “I thought that was Robert De Niro,” and “If I didn’t know this was supposed to be him, I would never guess this is supposed to be Walt Disney.” Others called him a “Temu version” of Walt. Many called it “creepy” and “just felt off.” “Walt Disney – A Magical Life” debuts at the Main Street Opera House in Disneyland Park in Anaheim, Calif., on July 17, 2025. 7. Disneyland has been around since 1955, which means it has played home to some wacky secrets for quite some time. Sleeping Beauty Castle The Disneyland Resort is packed with a ton of history — and you can experience most of it at the parks today. From secret ride features to the remnants of old attractions to wild ideas that never came into fruition, if you go searching for Disneyland for some fascinating secrets, then fascinating secrets you will find! One of the most interesting tidbits we learned about Disneyland has to do with a radioactive attraction that almost existed at the park! Disneyland Tomorrowland The Tomorrowland Uranium Hunt is an attraction we’re certainly glad Disney abandoned. It would’ve given guests a Geiger counter — a device that measures radiation — as they travel through a walkthrough attraction where the goal would be to measure radiation to try to find actual uranium that would’ve been tucked into tight spaces in the walls. Oh, and you would’ve got to take a little chunk of uranium home. Yeah…that’s not great. Fortunately, this concept never became a reality. We love a great Disneyland souvenir, but radiation exposure ain’t it. Tomorrowland Uranium Hunt concept design While that secret is absolutely wild, there are at least 7 other secrets we know about that may blow your mind, starting with a baby alligator that got loose in Jungle Cruise. Jungle Cruise in Disneyland Walt Disney initially wanted real animals on the attraction, so a pen of baby alligators was installed near the entrance for guests to see while they waited in the queue. Jungle Cruise The alligators were rented from a local reptile farm, and sometimes guests didn’t even know they were real, so they’d throw things like popcorn and toy alligators — which is clearly dangerous. Additionally, the tiny baby alligators would occasionally the pen and go for a swim in the waterways of the ride. Jungle Cruise Obviously, this was a bad idea on Disney’s behalf and probably a secret they’re not too proud of. Disneyland’s Jungle Cruise Another secret (or fun fact) is over in Fantasyland where the Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride and Alice in Wonderland rides are…or rather, this secret IS both of these rides combined. Let us explain… Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride If you’ve ever been on Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, you’d definitely remember that the final showroom is…umm…the bad place, for lack of better phrasing. This room is heated to enhance the sensation of traveling through that mythical area. We point this out because, according to the D23 website, “Alice in Wonderland was Disneyland’s first two-level ride-through attraction.” Due to “spatial constraints,” Alice had to be built on TOP of Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. Alice in Wonderland The building constructs get super apparent when you enter the room of the Card Soldiers, which is unusually hot. This is because you’re actually feeling the heat from the Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride scene below! Heat rises, after all! Alice in Wonderland While this next secret is well-known at this point, it still blows our minds. We’re talking, of course, about the bullet hole that remains in Haunted Mansion! Haunted Mansion in Disneyland In 1974, a guest shot at the glass window in the ballroom scene and it left a pretty noticeable bullet hole. Disney can’t just simply remove the pane of glass because it would require removing the roof, so the company instead installed a spider and a web over the hole, which is still noticeable to this day! Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion We’ve already brought up some things Disney probably regrets, and this next secret is likely another one that gives us the heebie-jeebies. Pirates of the Caribbean Disneyland When Pirates of the Caribbean opened, the ride featured real human bones! ©Disney Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland When the ride first opened in 1967, skeletons from the UCLA Medical School were used since they — clearly — looked more realistic. Well, that didn’t fly for very long, and now prop bones occupy the attraction, except for one real skull on the bed headboard early in the ride. Pirates of the Caribbean in Disneyland Any folks out there understand Morse code? You’ll get a kick out of this next secret! Disneyland Railroad Station The Disneyland Railroad takes you on a trip around Walt Disney’s original Magic Kingdom, with stops in Main Street, U.S.A., New Orleans Square, Toontown, and Tomorrowland. ©Disney Notably, the New Orleans Square station features a nod to Walt Disney himself. If you listen closely, you’ll hear a telegraph machine playing Walt’s opening day speech from July 17th, 1955, in Morse code. Specifically, the code translates the first two lines of the speech: “To all who come to this happy place, welcome. Here age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future.” To All Who Come To This Happy Place Magnet Did you know Disneyland is home to a little man who lives in a tree? Ready for an ADVENTURE? The Little Man of Disneyland is named Patrick Begorra, and he made his first appearance in 1955 in one of the Disney Little Golden Books. This tiny man is a leprechaun who lives in a miniature house at the base of a tree in Disneyland’s Adventureland. You can actually see his house near the entrance of the Indiana Jones Adventure ride! Love what you’ve done with the place, Patrick! We’ve mostly stayed at Disneyland Park, but we’re gonna give some love to Disney California Adventure and point out some secrets in Cars Land! Cars Land at Disney California Adventure For starters, many of the ride vehicles in Cars Land — such as the baby tractors in Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree –have special license plates that feature the initials of Disney Imagineers who helped bring the land to life! ©Disney These are just a few secrets Disneyland holds, but there are TONS more — maybe even hundreds! 8. When it comes to dining at Disney World, you’ve got a TON of options. Want something quick and easy? You’ve got it. Something middle of the road and comforting? Yep, that too. And if you’re looking for something upscale and luxurious, you can find that as well. Goofy’s Candy. Co. But, if you’re looking for a fun, interactive, CUSTOM Disney World treat — there’s only one place to find it. Come with us to Goofy’s Candy Co. at Disney Springs! Goofy’s Candy Co. is the home of all things candy at Disney Springs — and it’s also the home of the Create-Your-Own-Treat Bar! Here, you can choose from caramel apples, marshmallows, crisped rice cereal treats, cake pops, and Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bars — and add toppings, drizzles, and more. Create Your Own Treat Bar Just look for the spot or ask a Cast Member for one of these forms, fill it out, and hand it back to them, and they’ll get started on your masterpiece! Our order This time around, we chose a Mickey Ice Cream Bar ($14.99) with Werther’s Original Caramel drizzle, Peanut Butter M&M’s, Crunchy Cookie M&M’s, sprinkles, yogurt chips, mini marshmallows, pretzel pieces, whipped cream, and a cherry. Yes, we know that sounds like a lot — and you’re right. But we had to do it. You know, for science. Our Mickey Premium Bar As you might expect, this is a sugar overload! You can choose from three or six toppings (three is cheaper). There are a lot of options, and the Cast Member who made ours loaded it up with toppings! To be honest, it was a lot, but it sure looked crazy, and it was fun to create. It’s definitely on the expensive side, and we would say that three toppings would be more than enough — especially for kids. It was kinda nice mixing the ice cream with the toppings, but it does not hold up well to the heat, so you will probably be eating this treat with a spoon. Definitely need to eat with a spoon In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Disney World and beyond. 9. We’ve got a word of warning if you’re flying into or out of Orlando International Airport (MCO) this afternoon! Southwest Planes Due to weather conditions across Central and South Florida, airline operations — including flights and baggage — may be impacted. In fact, over 200 flights have been delayed at MCO this afternoon. Here’s what you need to know. Travelers are being urged to check with their airline directly for any updates regarding their flight or current operations. According to the flight data website FlightAware, there are currently 237 delayed flights for Orlando International Airport, including both arrivals and departures. In addition, 33 flights have been canceled due to the inclement weather. Storms at Orlando Airport 2024 The 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season recently started, but summertime in general also brings an influx of thunderstorms in the afternoon on many days. Storms and heavy rain can easily delay planes, even if the storm is only supposed to be around for half an hour. Storms like these are most likely to hit in late afternoon, as the heat of the day reaches its breaking point. Lightning can also be present without the accompaniment of rain, but it can delay planes all the same. Orlando International Airport (MCO) saw 350 delays in ONE afternoon on May 25th, solely due to afternoon storms, and this is likely similar to what is happening now. Orlando International Airport Because of this, we recommend morning flights during summer — but even during the fall and winter. Afternoon storms are less likely to affect flights during the cooler times of year, but they can still happen. Again, this isn’t foolproof, as other storm systems can come through unexpectedly at any time of year, but this is a good way to cross at least one potential issue off your list! 12. It’s happening! Disneyland’s newest attraction is about to open on July 17th, and we just got a sneak peek inside. We’re kinda freaking out, so let us show you this history-making attraction. ©Disney Walt Disney — A Magical Life is a new show coming to the Main Street Opera House and will be a rotating show along with Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. Ever since this was announced at D23, fans have been shocked to hear that a Walt Disney animatronic is being built for the show. Did Imagineering showcase Walt’s legacy? Come with us and find out! During our first viewing of the new show, we weren’t allowed to take photos or videos — but those are coming soon, so check back here! As soon as we saw the outside, we knew we were in for a treat. There’s a new sign that showcases both shows in the theater in classic Main Street, U.S.A. style. The show takes you inside Walt’s office and “will bring together the past, present, and future of Disney storytelling.” Main Street Opera House Before we get started with the show, let’s talk about the Opera House itself! Exhibits inside the Opera House have changed. The front lobby has an exhibit on the construction of Disneyland with dozens of framed pieces of concept art, divided by land. There are some rarely exhibited pieces, including some of the Main Street, U.S.A. facades that a Cast Member said are on tissue that is so delicate they don’t want to handle it too much. A TON of concept art Outside the doors to the theater, there is an exhibit about the evolution of animatronics. It shows the Buddy Ebsen “Dancing Man” film from Project Little Man — the very first Audio-Animatronics experiment Imagineers did — along with animatronics from the Enchanted Tiki Room and “it’s a small world.” More exhibits In addition, the photo walls at the back of the room outside the theater now exhibit historic photos of Walt Disney. “it’s a small world” concepts The show starts with a short film titled “One Man’s Dream,” narrated by current Disney CEO Bob Iger that goes through the history of Walt’s life. Then, the screen rises to reveal Walt’s office, complete with the Walt Disney animatronic. In his office, there is concept art of Disneyland, books, papers, and a window, with Walt leaning on the edge of his desk — just like you would have seen on TV back in the day. The Walt animatronic speaks for around three minutes, and the setting of Walt’s office is very intentional, as Imagineers wanted new generations to connect to him in the same way their parents or grandparents might have. The Walt animatronic speaks about perseverance and achieving dreams, along with many familiar quotes. It ends with him saying, “It all started with a mouse,” and with Jiminy Cricket singing, “When you wish upon a star.” Walt animatronic! The animatronic really does look like an older version of Walt Disney (Imagineers said it’s supposed to be the 1963 version of him) — he stands tall at one point, and then goes back to leaning on his desk. The animatronic is a first for Disney — with a new “lean to stand” function and movements to talk with his hands that are more advanced than before. He answers the question, “Out of all the things you did, what was most important to you?” by telling a story of his brother, who was a mailman. He had time to go fishing and was “the happy one.” He wasn’t worried about making payroll. Standing tall Cast Members told us that three generations of Walt Disney’s family have seen the show and said the family thought Walt would have really liked the new attraction. In the recreation of the office, you’ll find an exact reproduction of his briefcase, Pinocchio maquette, books on urban development, and a photo of the Mr. Lincoln animatronic, representing Walt’s past, present, and future. The attraction officially opens on July 17th, and we’re so excited for everyone to feel the magic that we did. Make sure you keep following Disney Food Blog for everything Disney. 13. Does anyone else have an insanely large collection of Mickey Ears? So. Many. Ears. We are so proud of our collection! Mickey Ears turn any outfit into a Disney park-ready outfit, and we love having enough accessories to match every mood and obsession possible. Luckily for us, BaubleBar just released a new pair for us to add to the headband wall. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Pink Crystal Ears Headband ©Baublebar BaubleBar’s newest Minnie Ears are perfectly pink in every way. They’re made with a plush pink vegan leather as the base. The ears are covered in clear and pale pink stones all over the front. ©Baublebar The bow is sporting several oversized, multi color stones with gold hardware for a bit of a pop in color. The back of the ears is plain with no shine. The label on the inside of the headband is a ribbon, which we love because the labels in the past have stuck out on an engraved piece, causing a bit of irritation on our heads. ©Baublebar These ears are sure to be our next go-to accessories for an Aurora, Marie, or even Piglet Disneybound outfit! 14. All-new gallery experiences will open in the Main Street Opera House on July 17, 2025, the 70th anniversary of Disneyland park, honoring Walt Disney and his lasting impact here at Disneyland Resort and on dreamers around the world. Hundreds of images, art and artifacts will be displayed spanning from Walt’s early career to where we are now, celebrating 70 years of The Happiest Place on Earth. The exhibits culminate with the all-new attraction, “Walt Disney – A Magical Life,” where you will be invited to step into Walt’s office to hear some words of wisdom. Through historical mementos from Walt’s life and representations of his legacy, you’ll find a deeper understanding of Walt’s passion and talent for turning imagination into reality. “Evolution of a Dream” Upon entering the Main Street Opera House lobby, you’ll get to experience the “Evolution of a Dream.” Pieces throughout this front section of the lobby illustrate how Disneyland grew from an idea Walt had while spending time with his daughters to become the theme park that changed the world, bringing happiness to generations of visitors. Walt Disney Imagineering and the Walt Disney Archives curated relics and memorabilia from the early stages of Disneyland, including pencil drawings and concept artwork of preliminary plans. Some of the site plans on display in this space have never before been seen publicly! Banners representing lands of Disneyland hang from above, and beneath them are images and storyboards showing both past and present, from concept through to what they are today. You’ll even find treasures and vintage merchandise from the earliest days of the park. A display of Mickey ears through the years pays tribute to the accessory that has become an iconic element of theme park style, and a case of Disney watches offers a glimpse at fashion trends from the past 70 years, with some added pixie dust. Artifacts on Display from The Walt Disney Family Museum As you continue through the Opera House, you’ll find a selection of pieces from The Walt Disney Family Museum, which has loaned more than 30 artifacts for display. Some of these have never been publicly exhibited at Disneyland before. A truly special area is dedicated to Walt’s private apartment in Disneyland. Walt knew he would be spending lots of time in Disneyland in the early years of the park, so he built a small apartment for himself and his family above the Town Square Fire Station. This display includes original furniture and décor from the apartment, including two rocking chairs, two dining chairs, a table and a cranberry-colored lamp. Nearby, you can also take a closer look at some of Walt’s awards and humanitarian accolades on loan from The Walt Disney Family Museum. These include Walt’s 1955 Emmy award for the “Walt Disney’s Disneyland” television series, his Presidential Medal of Freedom awarded by President Johnson in 1964, and the Walt Disney Commemorative Medal presented to Lillian Disney by President Nixon in 1969. Even his plaque from the Racing Pigeon Association in recognition of the greatest contribution to the sport of racing pigeons is on display. History of Audio-Animatronics Technology in Walt’s Time As you move further into the lobby, you’ll find an exhibit showcasing the history of Audio-Animatronics storytelling featuring original and replica figures dating back to Walt Disney Imagineering’s earliest development of the technology. Audio-Animatronics figures were first formally introduced to Disneyland in 1963, when Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room opened with hundreds of talking birds, singing flowers and chanting tikis. Two animated birds are included in this space. You’ll also see a doll from the original run of “it’s a small world” at the 1964-1965 New York World’s Fair, figures from Pirates of the Caribbean and more. This area, including the beautiful portraits along the wall, provides a closer look at Walt’s passion for working alongside Disney Imagineers and breaking technological boundaries. In this area, you may also view a heartfelt video called “Memories of Walt,” in which those who worked alongside Walt Disney — and those inspired by his vision — share personal stories and reflections. Through touching anecdotes and memories, they offer a rare glimpse into Walt’s character and the man behind the magic. It’s a fitting tribute, as you prepare to enter the Opera House theater to view the first-ever Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt in the attraction “Walt Disney – A Magical Life.” A Tribute to Disneyland Past, Present and Future After experiencing the attraction, you’ll exit the theater and notice a tribute to Disneyland cast members who have brought magic to life for 70 years. Historical images adorn the walls, showcasing cast members at work through the years. On the other side of the exit lobby is a stunning mural paying tribute to Disneyland history, including entertainment and attractions. Finally, the exit gallery culminates in a peek at the future of Disneyland Resort. With plans for new attractions and guest experiences underway, we’re reminded of Walt’s legacy and his belief that Disneyland will never truly be complete so long as imagination is left in the world. Together, the exhibits and attraction in the Main Street Opera House give visitors at Disneyland the opportunity to know Walt Disney and understand his story, illustrating how one man tirelessly pursued his dream to create a place that has brought happiness to so many. 15. “Walt Disney – A Magical Life” is about to make its debut at the Main Street Opera House theater at Disneyland this Thursday, July 17, 2025. Our Imagineering team is putting the finishing touches on the show and attraction, the realization of many years of passion and planning. The 70th anniversary of Disneyland park offered us a great opportunity to remind guests of Walt Disney’s incredible story — told in his own words — in both film and through the magic of Audio-Animatronics, the art form he pioneered. In the lobby of the Main Street Opera House, guests will discover new exhibits showcasing Disneyland’s design evolutions, from master planning to Audio-Animatronics. Also showcased are awards and honors received by Walt Disney over the years, as well as a video presentation called “Memories of Walt,” that features interviews from many who knew and worked alongside him. After exploring the lobby exhibits, you’ll step into the theater to view “Walt Disney – A Magical Life.” The show begins with a film adaptation of “One Man’s Dream,” narrated by Walt himself, which follows his life from early endeavors through his dreams for the future. The finale of the show will raise the curtain on the first Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt Disney ever created. Guests will discover him in a re-creation of his office at the Studio, where he’ll share a few stories and thoughts on his career and philosophy. Taken from recordings spanning decades, Walt’s words were seamlessly blended to create these “great moments” for the performance. Of course, creating an Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt Disney is an enormous responsibility, and one our Imagineering team took very seriously through extensive research and innovation … similar perhaps to the efforts Walt and his team took in creating the original figure of Abraham Lincoln decades ago. From capturing the twinkle in his eyes to his expressive hands and eyebrows, the team pioneered numerous artistic and technological innovations to create the most lifelike performance of an Audio-Animatronics figure possible. A Tribute for Years to Come From Mickey Mouse to motion pictures, television, parks and beyond, Walt Disney’s vision and risk-taking have given the world a lifetime of entertainment. We believe that Walt’s story will provide inspiration to all who visit this show: Follow your dreams. Never give up. Turn setbacks into successes. And give the world your very best! And of course, our goal was to pay tribute and honor the man behind the magic of Disneyland — the only park that Walt Disney ever walked in. We can’t wait for you to experience “Walt Disney – A Magical Life” for yourself. 16. EPCOT is a completely different beast outside of festival season. EPCOT During festivals, the park is alive with food booths, entertainment, activities, merchandise, and more. Those months, it seems like there’s so much to do that it’s hard to choose where to eat. But where should you dine when you’re left with the park’s regular options? Today, we’re checking to see if one spot is still worth visiting in the off-season! Atmosphere The Land Cart is located next to The Land Pavilion in World Nature, and it lives here most of the year. Several months back, the cart underwent a renovation to update it to the new EPCOT architecture. It’s open most of the year now, and it often gets a special menu for festivals. But what about during the weeks of the year when there’s not a festival happening in EPCOT? That’s what we’re here to scope out. The Land Cart Unfortunately, this snack stand doesn’t have much seating nearby besides benches. However, you can head over to World Celebration or CommuniCore Hall and Plaza to find a spot to eat your snacks. CommuniCore Hall So, what can we order on the menu here right now? Menu Today, we’re getting EVERYTHING on the menu! That may sound super impressive, but there are actually only four items right now. Menu You can get a Mickey pretzel, a pickle, a Coca-Cola fountain drink, or a bottle of Dasani water. Eats First up, we grabbed the Mickey-shaped Pretzel for $8.50. So, the Mickey Pretzel isn’t our favorite pretzel in Disney World, we’re sorry to say, but Disney is really good about covering those flaws with salt. Honestly, if we wanted a pretzel in EPCOT, we’d pick one up in the Germany Pavilion. Now THAT’S a pretzel. But a Mickey pretzel is iconic, although it’s a bit mushy and doesn’t have that nice crustiness on the outside that we like. It’s super soft with a tiny bit of chew, and it’s salty. Mickey Pretzel But you do get plastic cheese with it, but it isn’t the GOOD plastic cheese, you know? This isn’t like that plastic cheese at Casey’s that gets pumped into a cup — it’s a pre-packaged plastic cheese, so it’s not as rich with cheese flavor. Plus, it’s very salty. Honestly, we felt our blood pressure rising with all that saltiness, so um…nope. Dipping it in the cheese Next was the Pickle-in-a-Pouch for $2.50. It’s a pretty standard deli pickle that you can get throughout Disney World. You’ll want to eat it right away, though, because if it sits too long, it gets soft and loses its crunch and freshness. It has a nice flavor that’s pungent and tart with the brininess you expect from a pickle. It’s a pickle, y’all. And it’s a cheap snack, which might be just what you want. It’s a pickle. What about the drinks? Drinks To drink, we snagged a Coca-Cola Fountain Beverage for $5.50 and the Dasani Water for $4. It’s Coke and water…what more do we need to say? However, we also ordered the Tropical Smoothie made with DOLE Whip Pineapple, Banana, and Mango for $6.25. It’s got that lovely tangy pineapple DOLE Whip flavor we love, but it’s more like a slushy-meets-smoothie. You also get that underhint of banana flavor that gives it some sweetness with an extra bit of tartness from the mango. Tropical Smoothie THIS is what you come to The Land Cart for because this is the perfect refreshing drink for a hot day. The flavors and texture are great, and we saw a lot of folks ordering it. Nosh or Not This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if… You need a snack ASAP. If you’re looking for something to eat right away and are in the area, you’ll find some basic snacks here. You want a refreshing drink. Sure, you can grab a water or soda, but the Tropical Smoothie is the perfect drink for the Florida heat and humidity. You’re in the area. If you just happen to be near The Land Pavilion and need something to eat and drink, this is convenient. You should skip this Disney World spot if… You’re in World Showcase. If you’re nowhere near this cart, it’s not worth the trip to visit it. You’ll find plenty of better food and snacks in World Showcase. You want more options. To say that the menu here is extremely limited would be an understatement. You want a full meal. EPCOT is full of quick service and table service restaurants that offer actual meals. This is just a snack spot. No, a Mickey pretzel is not a meal (even if we’ve made it a meal previously). Full spread Overall Overall, the only real reason you’ll want to visit The Land Cart is if you’re thirsty and need to grab a water or soda. However, if you are visiting The Land Pavilion and want a frozen beverage to cool off with, you can’t beat the Tropical Smoothie. But honestly, that’s about the only reason to visit this cart. 19. There aren’t many security rules you can opt out of, but did you know there’s one that’s optional? MCO Airport Many airports have updated their TSA security processes to include biometric technology and facial scans as part of the ID verification process. Although the data is instantly deleted, you have the option to bypass this step. When we were going through security at the Orlando International Airport (MCO), we saw a sign that said you can opt out of facial recognition technology. It also said if you chose not to use the technology, you won’t lose your place in line (and on busy days in MCO, we appreciate that!). Spotted at the Orlando Airport All you have to do is notify the TSA agent when you get through the line. If you choose to opt out, they’ll identify you with your standard ID. Orlando International Airport During the facial recognition, a photo of your face is taken and compared to the photo on the ID to ensure they are the same. It’s more efficient for busy airports, but the images are not shared in any databases and are instantly deleted. ©TSA This is similar to the fingerprint scans at Disney World. Your fingerprints are not stored in any databases, but instead, a number is assigned to them. When you rescan in, it ensures the same number is used. This process is also optional, and if you choose to opt out, they’ll use a system to scan you in. Time to go to the parks! TSA says that the new biometric technology is to improve “accuracy and speed of identity verification.” MCO Luggage Drop-Off Make sure you keep following Disney Food Blog for more travel news! 20. Disney has cooked up a LOT of wild ideas over the years, and not all of them made it to the plate. Mary Poppins attraction concept art Some were teased with concept art and then never heard from again. Others were actually announced and then slowly faded into the background, like they never existed. And then there are a few that still sting—because we really wanted them to happen. Let’s talk about five Disney World projects that were planned, hyped, and then totally canceled. The Play! Pavilion (EPCOT) This was supposed to be EPCOT’s answer to a modern-day interactive hub—something for the younger crowd, full of games, character encounters, and tech-forward activities. Disney announced the Play! Pavilion back in 2019, taking over the old Wonders of Life building. It sounded like a kid-friendly arcade-meets-exhibit-meets-Instagram backdrop with characters like Edna Mode and Wreck-It Ralph making appearances. ©Disney || Play Pavilion Concept Art And then…nothing. PLAY! Pavilion as of January 2023 The construction walls were up forever. Concept art made the rounds. And now? It’s totally off the map. Disney quietly removed all mention of it, and it’s looking more and more like the Play! Pavilion has been permanently shelved. What was hyped as a “digital city” has become another mystery dome in EPCOT with no clear future. Mary Poppins Ride in the UK Pavilion This one was a gut-punch. In 2019, Disney officially announced a Mary Poppins-themed attraction for the UK Pavilion in EPCOT. Not just a meet-and-greet or overlay—a full-on ride. The plan was to let guests stroll down Cherry Tree Lane and enter the Banks family home for a “supercalifragilistic” experience. Fans (us included) were so ready for this. Mary Poppins attraction concept art But after the 2020 shutdown, Disney quietly paused development. And in 2021, they removed it from their official plans. Since then, it’s been radio silence. No Cherry Tree Lane. No umbrella rides. No Mary. We’re still not over it. Germany’s Rhine River Cruise (Yes, Really) If you’ve ever walked past that big castle mural in EPCOT’s Germany Pavilion and wondered if there was supposed to be a ride there…you’re right. This could have been a ride! Germany was originally going to have its own boat ride. The Rhine River Cruise would’ve taken guests on a scenic journey through German folklore, castles, and the countryside. Think “It’s a Small World” vibes but all German-themed. ©Disney The building was partially built. The loading area still exists—just behind those doors under the mural. But the ride? Never happened. Budget cuts in the ‘80s pushed it to the backburner, and it’s been in “maybe someday” limbo ever since. The space is mostly used for storage now, and unless Disney suddenly decides to resurrect it, we probably won’t ever get to sail the Rhine in EPCOT. Beastly Kingdom (Animal Kingdom) Animal Kingdom is all about animals, right? Well…sort of. Originally, the park was going to be divided into three sections: real animals, extinct animals (which we got with DinoLand), and mythical animals. That third one? Never happened. Beastly Kingdom was supposed to feature dragons, unicorns, and other legendary creatures in a lush fantasy land. Think “Fantasia” meets “Lord of the Rings.” Concept Art for the Beastly Kingdom ©Disney It was going to have a dragon-themed roller coaster, a Fantasia-inspired boat ride, and an entire land that explored the mythic side of the animal world. But as the park’s budget tightened, Beastly Kingdom was scrapped before opening day. And later, the land where it was supposed to go became home to Pandora – The World of Avatar. ©Disney Cool? Yes. But part of us still wishes we could meet a fire-breathing dragon instead of a banshee. The Great Muppet Movie Ride (Hollywood Studios) By the late ‘80s, Disney was all-in on the Muppets. An acquisition deal was on the table, and the Muppets were supposed to be a major part of the then-brand-new Disney-MGM Studios (now Hollywood Studios). One of the biggest planned additions? The Great Muppet Movie Ride. ©Disney This attraction would’ve been a full-blown parody of The Great Movie Ride—except with Gonzo, Kermit, and the rest of the gang botching their way through famous movie scenes. There were plans to spoof everything from Peter Pan and Indiana Jones to Frankenstein and alien sci-fi movies. Jim Henson himself called it “the flip side” of the Studio experience—total chaos, Muppet-style. ©Disney It was part of a much larger Muppet-themed area that would’ve included a restaurant and more shows beyond Muppet*Vision 3D. But in 1990, just weeks after The Muppets at Walt Disney World TV special aired, Jim Henson passed away suddenly. The acquisition fell apart, and with it, the Great Muppet Movie Ride. ©Disney Muppet*Vision 3D still opened in 1991 and remains one of the few pieces of that original plan. But the rest? Gone. The ride never moved forward. The Muppets’ footprint in the parks stayed small. And while we’ve gotten some fun moments over the years—like Great Moments in American History and PizzeRizzo—it’s hard not to wonder what could’ve been if the Muppets had gotten their own E-ticket attraction. ©Disney There’s no shortage of blue-sky ideas at Disney. Some crash and burn. Some quietly disappear. And a few sting forever because they sounded so good. So next time you’re wandering the parks at Disney World, just remember—you’re walking past some serious “what if” history. 21. Epic Universe just opened in May, but Universal is already submitting plans to expand! WELCOME to Epic Universe! This is the third park at Universal Orlando and has five themed lands: Super Nintendo World, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and the Ministry of Magic, How to Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk, Dark Universe, and Celestial Park. We’ve been exploring every detail and trying every snack, but the idea of an expansion has us thrilled! Universal has filed permits with Orange County for an expansion, according to Fox35. The permit states that it will be a shop, warehouse, or restaurant. Gate at Epic Universe The permit covers “vertical construction” and will be between the entrance of the park and Super Nintendo World. SUPER NINTENDO WORLD It will be about 40,000 square feet, and while we don’t have any announced timelines, we are obsessed with our newest Florida theme park getting just a little bit bigger. 40,000 is a decent amount of space, and no matter what it turns into, we’re ready for more details. Yoshi’s Adventure Universal is also working on Universal Kids Resort, a new theme park coming to Frisco, Texas, for the little ones of the family. It’s set to open sometime in 2026, featuring the Minions and Shrek, as well as other kid favorites. ©Universal The whole park will be smaller than Universal Hollywood and Universal Orlando, but we can’t wait to visit and check it out for ourselves. Between this and Epic Universe, our theme park heats are so full. ©Universal Make sure you keep following Disney Food Blog for all the theme park news you need! 23. It turns out, you can book a vacation where everything is taken care of — even the snacks. ©Bungalows Key Largo All-inclusive resorts aren’t just for tropical getaways in the Caribbean. The U.S. actually has some pretty epic all-inclusive destinations, too. And no, we’re not talking about boring buffets and scheduled entertainment every hour — we’re talking about luxury cabins, mineral-rich hot springs, next-level food, and wellness experiences that might just convince you to turn off your phone (maybe). Here are a few of the top all-inclusive travel spots in the U.S. that actually live up to the hype. Magee Homestead – Saratoga, Wyoming This isn’t your average rustic ranch retreat. Magee Homestead is part of the Brush Creek Luxury Ranch Collection and was built for adults who want to unplug, recharge, and maybe sip some premium wine after a hike through the Sierra Madre mountains. It’s romantic, remote, and seriously serene. ©Magee Homestead You’ve got your pick of cozy cabins here, but if you want the most space (and bragging rights), book the TZ cabin — three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a full kitchen, and all the mountain lodge vibes. Rates cover gourmet meals, premium drinks (yes, including alcohol), and a full lineup of outdoor adventures. Want to hike or bike? Go for it. Prefer to chill by the pool or hit the spa? That’s covered too (though treatments are extra). ©Magee Homestead Guests are obsessed with the setting and the food. This isn’t your standard campfire chili situation — we’re talking real-deal gourmet dining in the middle of Wyoming wilderness. Castle Hot Springs – Morristown, Arizona If your idea of vacation is more “float in mineral springs and realign your chakras” than “adrenaline rush,” Castle Hot Springs might be your dream destination. Tucked in the Sonoran Desert just outside of Phoenix, this resort centers around three naturally heated, mineral-rich pools that are as therapeutic as they are Insta-worthy. ©Castle Hot Springs Beyond soaking in hot springs loaded with magnesium and lithium (yes, really), you can join yoga sessions, try guided meditation, or go full zen with a massage (spa services cost extra). More into play than pause? There’s also pickleball, ax throwing, and even archery. ©Castle Hot Springs Your stay includes all meals — breakfast, lunch, and a fancy multi-course dinner — plus drinks and poolside snacks. The rooms? Think rustic-luxe bungalows and cabins, Wi-Fi included, plus board games and Nespresso machines for slow mornings. Even better? You’re lounging in a spot that once hosted U.S. presidents. No big deal. Alila Ventana Big Sur – Big Sur, California Let’s get this out of the way: Big Sur is gorgeous. Now imagine waking up on 160 acres of coastal redwood forest with a view of the Pacific, sipping coffee on your private deck. That’s Alila Ventana. Alila Ventana Big Sur This adults-only resort leans hard into wellness and nature. All meals (yes, everything), daily snacks, and wellness classes are included in the price — along with access to hiking trails, hot tubs, and a spa that overlooks the cliffs. Bonus points for the “only in Big Sur” experiences like beekeeping, falconry demos, and leather crafting. ©Alila Ventana Big Sur You can stay in rooms or suites, but there are also two standalone houses if you want something more private. Some rooms have hot tubs. Some have fireplaces. All have views that make you question why you ever stayed in a standard hotel room. Lake Austin Spa Resort – Austin, Texas Just 20-ish miles from downtown Austin, Lake Austin Spa Resort feels a million miles away. This is a super-chill, adults-only lakeside retreat where wellness isn’t a trend — it’s the whole point. ©Lake Austin Spa Resort Your all-inclusive stay gets you three legit meals per day (not buffet trays), unlimited drinks like tea and coffee, and access to lake activities, yoga, hikes, and boat rides. Spa treatments cost extra, but guests say they’re worth it — and you can still enjoy the steam rooms, saunas, and hot tubs without spending extra. ©Lake Austin Spa Resort There are only 40 rooms here, and they come with lake or garden views, soaking tubs, outdoor patios, and all the little luxuries you’d hope for (robes and slippers included). The vibe is upscale but unfussy, and past guests consistently rave about the staff, the peace and quiet, and how easy it is to forget about your inbox. Bungalows Key Largo – Key Largo, Florida If you’ve been searching for a true all-inclusive beach escape in the U.S., this is it. Bungalows Key Largo is an adults-only resort in the Florida Keys that actually includes meals, drinks, activities, and a whole lot more — no wristbands required. ©Bungalows Key Largo You’ll stay in your own private bungalow (garden or waterfront), each with outdoor showers, soaking tubs, and a little veranda for lounging. Rates cover all meals at five different restaurants, top-shelf drinks at multiple bars, and snacks throughout the day. Plus, there are live music nights, karaoke, trivia, and other fun low-key events. ©Bungalows Key Largo Want to be active? Paddleboarding, snorkeling, group yoga, and a gym with Pelotons are all part of the deal. Want to relax? Poolside cocktails and a spa (services extra) are ready for you. And if you’re up for exploring, the staff can set you up with boat tours or even a scuba diving trip. ©Bungalows Key Largo All-inclusive doesn’t have to mean international, and it definitely doesn’t have to mean basic. These U.S. resorts are proof that you can vacation hard and chill harder — no passport required. Keep following us here at DFB for more travel news! 24. Six Flags is expected to close its California’s Great America park at the end of the 2027 season, People reports. ©Six Flags The park is located in Santa Clara, California, and its lease is coming to an end on June 30th, 2028. Six Flags Chief Financial Officer Brian Witherow told investors in May that there were no plans to extend the lease. “Unless we decide to extend, and exercise one of our options to extend that lease, that park’s last year without that extension would be after the ‘27 season,” Witherow said at Six Flags Investor Day 2025 on May 20th, 2025. The news came shortly after it was announced that Six Flags America in Bowie, Maryland, would be closing at the end of the 2025 season. Witherow said of the Maryland and California parks, “Those are two parks that are very low on the ranking of margins.” Six Flags California’s Great America would close in October 2027 after the Halloween season. The park — which spans more than 100 acres — opened in 1976 under the Marriott Corporation as Marriott’s Great America. ©Six Flags In 2024, the park’s parent company, Cedar Fair, merged with Six Flags in a deal worth $8 billion. Two years before that, Cedar Fair sold the 112 acres of land the park sits on for $310 million to Prologis, a real estate and supply chain logistics company. The amusement park company agreed to lease back the land for six to 11 years and announced plans to close the park at the end of the 2028 lease. The company has the option to extend the terms for another five years, but they have yet to do so. Prologis is “focused on identifying and partnering with planning and design experts to help us create a master plan for the property,” if Six Flags’ lease is not extended. ©Six Flags The Six Flags Great America location outside of Chicago opened the same year as the California version of the park; however, the Illinois park will receive enhancements ahead of its 50th season celebration. Official closure details have yet to be announced by Six Flags, so stay tuned for updates. ©Six Flags We’ll be on the lookout for additional updates about this potential Six Flags closure. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest theme park news and more.
