  2. I literally get paid to go to Disney World for my job, so it’s safe to say that I spend more time in theme parks than the average person. Our girl Lydia in the parks I’m in the parks at least once a week, clocking tens of thousands of steps, eating theme park snacks, battling the Central Florida weather, and taking seemingly one million pictures and videos while doing all of the above. It’s an absolutely spectacular job that I wouldn’t trade for any other career…but sometimes those theme parks can be BRUTAL. And recently, one Central Florida park nearly took me out! Let’s take it back in time a few months. Twas the week before the grand opening of Epic Universe, and things were HOPPING here at DFB. (It’s not every day that a brand new theme park opens, y’all!) Our schedules were packed, and we were busting our tails to cover everything happening at Epic Universe while also keeping up with the latest news in Disney World. Gate at Epic Universe That week, I did THREE different theme park resorts in a row, and boy was that a smidge overwhelming, even for someone like me! I started on Tuesday at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, spending most of my day in Galaxy’s Edge. I gathered footage for our YouTube channel, snapped some pictures on Rise of the Resistance, and did a full review of breakfast at Ronto Roasters. (Just a day in the life!) Ronto Morning Wrap My Thursday was another work day, heading into Epic Universe for the first time. I got to dine at The Blue Dragon, put my refillable Coca-Cola Freestyle cup to the ultimate test, and of course, as a major theme park nerd, nearly cried at every turn. (And definitely cried for real when I walked into Isle of Berk for the first time and “Test Drive” was playing.) Yep, actual tears. But in between those two work days, I had a day off to spend with some family members visiting from out of town. And you know what they wanted to do? Go to SeaWorld. Now, I hadn’t been to SeaWorld in nearly 20 years, so I didn’t really know what to expect outside of my last visit when I was 8. ©ClickOrlando Well, even though the other two days were rough — we’re talking 90-degree temperatures and 20K steps in the parks — SeaWorld Orlando was the park that nearly killed me during my visit. So I’m here to warn you in the hopes that you’ll be prepared if you stop by! ©SeaWorld Orlando Three things really stood out to me during my visit to SeaWorld that made the day extra difficult. First of all, there were hills EVERYWHERE. Now, Central Florida is not generally a hilly place, so this was pretty surprising to me. But to get into those theater shows where you see marine life perform cool stunts, you’re probably going to be climbing some serious hills. Over. And over. And over again. Dolphin Remember how I mentioned that it was in the 90s this particular week? Well, there is a distinct lack of shade in many areas around SeaWorld. Throughout some parts of the park, we were walking in the sun for several minutes with nary an umbrella or tree in sight, and that made things particularly difficult when traveling with 3 kids under 5. SeaWorld Orlando But perhaps the thing that made the day the MOST difficult was that it was a challenge to find water around the park! We brought our own refillable bottles and had a hard time filling them up — there weren’t any bottle refill stations that employees could point us towards, and the fountains were somewhat scarce. At one point, we were told we could take our bottles to employees to refill at snack stands, but after a very uncomfortable experience doing that, we were deterred from trying again. We ended up chugging free cups of ice water during our lunch meal. But with drink machines behind the counter at the restaurant we visited, we had to wait quite a while to even get those cups and rehydrate. Once again, somewhat difficult when you’re traveling with littles. ©SeaWorld So after all that, my advice to you is that you might want to avoid planning a trip to SeaWorld during the hottest months of the year. If you have to travel during that time, come prepared with water, shade (like hats or umbrellas), and a comfy pair of walking shoes. You’ll need those things and a good dose of sunscreen to survive! To learn how to plan your trip to Epic Universe, check out the video below. Stay tuned to DFB for more tips and tricks to surviving theme parks! Check Out Other Weird Things I Do for My Job Here! 5. Ever since opening day at Disneyland nearly 70 years ago, generations of families have been making memories with Disney that last a lifetime. And through the decades, we’ve always created new ways for guests to save on their vacations with us.  “There is nothing quite like a Disney vacation, and every family’s experience is uniquely their own,” said Eean K, a planDisney Panelist from Pennsylvania. “That’s why Disney creates options and choices at a variety of price-points. Disney parks on both coasts recently unveiled new offers and perks – making now a great time to plan your next unforgettable Disney trip.” Simply put, a Disney vacation offers unparalleled entertainment and attractions, paired with legendary customer service. That unique experience, alongside an offering of a wide variety of ticket, dining, and hotel options, has been key to welcoming the tens of millions of families who enjoy a visit to Disney every year. A World of Options at Walt Disney World Resort Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida announced a new deal for families. Guests can purchase a 3-day or longer kids (ages 3-9) standard ticket for 50% off. This deal is available for visits through September 20, 2025. Additionally, a 3-day, 3-Park ticket is available for purchase starting at $89 per day ($267 total, plus tax) for visits through September 22, 2025. This ticket is for admission to EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom (one theme park per day, not valid for admission to Magic Kingdom). Walt Disney World also provides a wide variety of ticket, dining, and hotel options, and promotional offers during the year to help families save on their vacations. Some current offers include: As of January 1, 2025, guests who stay at a Walt Disney World resort hotel can enjoy water park admission on the day of their check-in — included in their stay. There are a variety of resort hotel offers available right now, including saving up to 30% on select rooms when you stay longer, or save up to 20% on rooms this holiday season. All hotel and ticket offers can be found here. With four theme parks, more than 25 resort hotels, 200+ dining options, and even more to come, there is so much to discover in 2025 at Walt Disney World. This summer, Walt Disney World is extra fun. Two new shows debuted at Disney’s Hollywood Studios: The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure and Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After. And, Magic Kingdom just welcomed a brand-new nighttime parade, Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away. Plus, through September 1, 2025, families should be on the lookout for limited-time experiences perfect for young kids in the theme parks, including kid zones featuring new activities and fun ways to interact with more Disney characters. There are pop-up entertainment offerings, games, music, dancing and other adventures to help your little ones make those core Disney memories. For example, over at Magic Kingdom, families can discover kid zones with added fun in Storybook Circus and in Tomorrowland with Stitch. And, families with young kids will be able to cool down while enjoying the ultimate game party and play space featuring none other than Goofy as he takes over CommuniCore Hall at EPCOT. Some of our characters will also be out in the park earlier than normal for Disney Resort hotel guests during their daily early theme park entry period (valid theme park admission required). 6. Let’s be real — Disney World ain’t cheap. Sure, there are plenty of deals and discounts you can find on tickets, hotels, and even food. But what about when it comes to those precious Disney World souvenirs?! Japan Pavilion As someone who goes to the parks while ballin’ on a budget (do people still say that?) frequently, I’m always on the hunt for unique souvenirs I can bring home that don’t break the bank. So, when I found this $5 souvenir in the Japan Pavilion at EPCOT, I knew I’d be purchasing it immediately — and I’ve continued to do so again and again. Confession: I can’t stop buying incense from the Japan Pavilion at EPCOT. For me, an EPCOT trip is not complete unless I take a casual stroll through the Mitsukoshi Department Store, which is home to all sorts of imported Japanese goodies. We’re talking toys, housewares, apparel, snacks and candy, and as you might have guessed, quite a range of incense. Mitsukoshi Department Store It all started when I was walking through the store, and an incredible smell wafted into my nostrils — it reminded me of the smell during the Tortuga scene on Pirates of the Caribbean. It was kind of a mix of florals, the sweet rum smell, and the bromine from the water. Turns out, it was this Aqua incense from Nippon Kodo. I immediately purchased it, and now I have a terrible habit of buying a new scent almost every time I step into the store (which is pretty often). It smells JUST like Pirates of the Caribbean At this point, I have ten different types of incense from Mitsukoshi, though many of which can be found online, too! They’re relatively inexpensive, though some brands and scents are more expensive than others; but you’ll typically find them anywhere between $5 and $20 per box. The Aqua one might just be my favorite, but I really like this Lotus scented one… Lotus scented …and this Cypress scent gives off a warm, woodsy vibe. Woodsy vibes The best part about this souvenir is that it’s the gift that keeps on giving — each box contains at least 25 sticks of incense, meaning you definitely get your money’s worth! You won’t find many Disney World souvenirs that have that going for them, so I consider this a win-win. Plus, who wouldn’t want their house to smell like Pirates of the Caribbean?! Weird people, that’s who. The evidence of my addiction We’ll be on the lookout for even more fun souvenirs you can find at EPCOT and beyond. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest news from Disney World and more! 9. Festival season is about to kick off in EPCOT, and we’ve got some new rules for you! 2024 Food and Wine Festival The International Food & Wine Festival starts in August, and once it wraps, the Festival of the Holidays kicks off shortly after. In 2026, the Festival of the Arts typically takes place in January and February, with the Flower & Garden Festival coming up in March. So basically, we’re looking at a steady stream of festivals until next summer. Here’s what you need to know before you plan your visit. Don’t Overeat at Breakfast For the International Food & Wine Festival this fall, Chefs de France in the France Pavilion will be offering a breakfast buffet on Fridays and Saturdays from 9AM to 10:30AM. It’ll feature French pastries, plus freshly baked baguettes, premium cheeses, and artisanal cured meats. You’ll also be able to drink unlimited mimosas, fruit juices, and freshly brewed coffee. ©Disney The cost is $64.95 per person, and all that food may sound like a great (and delicious!) deal, but don’t forget to save room for the rest of your festival eats! It would be a shame to fill up on bread to the point where you can’t enjoy any of the food booths around the park afterward. Of course, this is all down to your own personal dining preferences, but budget the room in your stomach wisely! Watch Out for Crowds Near Test Track If you’re heading to EPCOT in the coming months, you can expect that there will be heavier crowds over by Test Track. Why? Because it just reopened from a complete overhaul! The ride is very different from how you remember it before, with an all-new storyline and queue. So with lots of people interested in checking it out, you may find that this area of the park is BUSY. Test Track During some of the festivals, there are booths in World Discovery near Test Track, and most of the time, the festivals make use of the nearby Odyssey Pavilion as well. You might experience longer lines at those food spots since they’re nearest to the ride. Don’t Forget the NEW Lounge Another new addition to EPCOT is GEO-82, which is an adults-only lounge inside Spaceship Earth. This space has some delicious eats and drinks to offer, and it’s incredibly popular right now (and subsequently, hard to snag a reservation for). If you manage to snag a reservation, you’re going to have to work it into your festival schedule. High Brow Batanga You’ll have to decide if it’s worth it to use up some of your festival budget and stomach space to stop and grab drinks and snacks here during your EPCOT visit. Dining reservations become available 60 days before your trip, so once you have your reservation for this spot secured, you’ll be able to schedule your festival plan of attack around your time chilling at the lounge. Don’t Skip CommuniCore Hall And last but not least, we’re going to tell you NOT to skip CommuniCore Hall! This indoor space opened in summer 2024 and at first, it was a bit underwhelming. But in 2025, Disney’s been taking this space up a notch with specialty theming for each of the festivals, including some really cool displays and exhibits! Disney on Broadway Exhibit during the Festival of the Arts During the Festival of the Arts, they had a phenomenal Disney on Broadway exhibit, and the Flower & Garden Festival brought a specialty floral display. So if you’re coming to EPCOT soon, make sure to stop in there and see what they’ve got available! CommuniCore Hall That’s a wrap on our list of new tips for festival season at EPCOT. Happy eating, drinking, and celebrating, folks! And if you’re heading to EPCOT soon, check out our guide to the park’s food below. Stay tuned to DFB for all the Disney World tips and tricks. 10. Okay, so a lot is happening in Disney World this fall, and we couldn’t be more excited. The first Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party starts on August 15th. The EPCOT Food and Wine Festival starts on August 28th. And Destination D23 starts on August 29th and runs through August 31st. ©Disney Now, we are particularly interested in Destination D23, which will happen at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, because this is an event where Disney generally makes a lot of BIG announcements. Destination D23 just dropped its full schedule, so let’s get into it (and get into what’s MISSING from that schedule). Destination D23 gave us a general idea of what this year’s schedule would be like, but now we have the full schedule. Here’s every panel happening at the event. See if you can figure out what’s missing: Saturday, August 30th 9AM — Welcome! 9:15 AM — Walt Disney Studios Showcase 10:30 AM — Morning Break 10:45 AM — Welcome Back with Michael Vargo 10:55 AM — The Three Caballeros: From El Grupo to Goodwill Classics (Part 1) 11:05 AM — X Atencio: The Untold Story of a Disney Legend 11:30 AM — Disney Around the Globe: India 11:35 AM — Be Our Guest with Disney on Broadway 12 PM — Lunch Break 2:25 PM — Disney Around the Globe: Japan 2:30 PM — D2K Animated Classics 3 PM — Creating the Happiest Place on Earth 3:30 PM — Afternoon Break 3:45 PM — What’s Cooking with Disney Eats? 4:30 PM Boom, Baby! 25 Years of The Emperor’s New Groove 8 PM to 11 PM — D23 Kuzcotopia Night at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon ©D23 Sunday, August 31st 9 AM — Welcome! 9:05 AM — Disney Villains: Icons of Evil 9:50 AM — Part of Our World 10:10 AM — The Three Caballeros: From El Grupo to Goodwill Classics (Part 2) 10:20 AM — The Disney Family Legacy with Roy P. There’s no dedicated Parks panel! Now, this surprised us quite a bit, and we can only guess that we might get some parks announcements during other panels. For example, we might get some announcements about Villains land in Magic Kingdom during the Villains panel. It’s also likely we’ll get some Disneyland announcements during the Happiest Place on Earth panel. Of course, who knows what Disney will announce during the other panels. One thing is for certain, though, we’ll be there covering the event, and if we hear any big announcements, we’ll be sure to share them with you, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 16. Growing up with a father as a fisherman, Dakarai has always loved the sea. At nine years old, he already has his mind set on becoming a navigator of a ship someday. That’s why he joined the LJM Maritime Academy summer camp, sponsored by Disney Cruise Line. As part of the two-week summer camp experience in Nassau, The Bahamas, young Bahamian students learn first-hand from maritime industry experts, and participate in lessons on navigation and engineering, and workshops, like nautical rope tying. “Before coming to this camp, I didn’t know about maritime life. I thought it was only in some countries. Now I know, and I want to be in a white-on-white cadet suit in the future,” said Dakarai. That’s a dream for many of the campers who are spending their summer break discovering potential careers at sea at the LJM Maritime Academy summer camp. “Introducing students this young to the maritime industry, even to a skill like rope tying, is a good introduction to the maritime field,” said Nameiko Miller, registrar, LJM Maritime Academy. “We are grateful for Disney Cruise Line’s continued support. This year, we doubled our total number of campers. I don’t think we could have accomplished that without their support,” said Miller. Disney Cruise Line is committed to creating a lasting, positive impact in its port communities and is proud to support the LJM Maritime Academy summer camp to inspire the next generation of maritime leaders. “We want young Bahamians to explore careers at sea and picture themselves in these leadership roles aboard our ships,” said Joey Gaskins, regional director, public affairs, Disney Cruise Line. “As our fleet grows, we want them to see the variety of exciting opportunities available to them.” In addition to supporting the LJM Maritime Academy summer camp, Disney Cruise Line has sponsored the LJM Maritime Academy cadet scholarships for young adults aspiring to become ship captains and shipboard leaders. Follow along as campers board the Disney Magic for a day of learning, exploration and fun.The post Disney Cruise Line Helps Inspire the Next Generation of Bahamian Maritime Leaders appeared first on Disney Experiences. 18. EPCOT just got updates right before their Food and Wine Festival! EPCOT As someone who goes to EPCOT all the time, the park’s vast entertainment options set it apart from the other three parks. Now, EPCOT has added to its entertainment library with not one, but TWO new performances. Trust us, you’re going to want to check these out! Two brand-new shows have just debuted in EPCOT! Let’s take a look at the first show over in the Germany pavilion, called German Freestyle Soccer Duo. German Soccer Duo! This show features the soccer duo, Samu Weller and Camill Hauser! During the show, the two guys talk about the importance of soccer in Germany, what it means to the country, and how much it’s loved there. We think it’s a cool experience to learn about the culture. Of course, talking wasn’t enough; they performed tricks with soccer balls while also doing flips and handstands. It was an impressive sight to see! Look at these tricks! Another thing we loved about the show is how interactive it is! The duo would ask volunteers from the audience and get you to help with the performance. Oh, and study up, because they quiz you on German soccer players. They get volunteers! According to the My Disney Experience app, this show is at 12:40 PM, 1:30 PM, 2:35 PM, 3:55 PM, 5:00 PM, and 6:05 PM. The show lasts around 15 minutes, and you’ll be able to get pictures with the duo once it comes to an end! It was such a cool experience Now, let’s go around World Showcase over to France. The other new show located in the France pavilion is called Acrobatico — and this one is also a must-see performance! Acrobatico! It’s a very cute 15-minute show! We honestly felt like it was similar to what you’d find at Disney’s Boardwalk Resort at night. The show features a performer dressed in a French waiter’s outfit. Now this is cool! They perform acrobatic tricks while stacking chairs to climb. If that wasn’t impressive enough, they do this all while balancing a tray with a full glass of water! Climbing a stack of chairs This show takes place several times throughout the day, including 12:15 PM, 1:15 PM, 3:15 PM, 4:15 PM, and 5:15 PM. Be sure to check times on the My Disney Experience app, just in case, as times are always subject to change. The show is multiple times throughout the day This show also uses people in the audience to help out with the chair stacking! Guests were helping! Take some time out of your next EPCOT visit to check out these two brand-new shows! These shows are both great additions to World Showcase’s entertainment options. As always, be sure to keep following the Disney Food Blog for more news and updates. Are you going to check out these new shows? Let us know in the comments! 20. I’ve been using TSA PreCheck for 6 years, and these are new unspoken rules I will be following when I fly! TSA lines at MCO TSA has seen some changes lately. From not removing shoes to the Real ID requirements, flying in 2025 might be a little confusing. Some passengers chose to use TSA PreCheck when going through security at the airport to save time and some of the hassle that comes with security. These are 4 unspoken rules in light of the changes happening if you are using PreCheck. 1. Bring Your Physical ID Anyways TSA is rolling out new “Touchless ID” technology that allows PreCheck travelers at certain airports to verify their identity with facial recognition alone, which might lead you to think you won’t need to have your ID handy. Here’s the unspoken rule: always keep your physical ID handy. Even with the new system, TSA still requires you to carry a government-issued ID in case the tech glitches or when the system is down. You don’t want to get to the front to realize the system is down and hold up the line digging through your carry-on item for your ID. Spotted at the Orlando Airport 2. You Can Utilize Family Lanes If your Disney trip includes kids, strollers, or a luggage cart packed with Mickey ears, look for airports with the new “Families on the Fly” lanes. These dedicated lines for families and military travelers are popping up at major vacation gateways, like Orlando International. They can make a huge difference when you’re juggling multiple boarding passes and a toddler who is overwhelmed. MCO Airport Security 3. Have Your Real ID On May 7, 2025, every traveler flying domestically must have a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or another accepted ID, such as a passport or DHS Trusted Traveler card. PreCheck won’t save you if you show up with the wrong ID. If you do not have a Real ID, the TSA officer may ask you to complete an identity verification process, which includes collecting information such as your name and current address to confirm your identity. If your identity is confirmed, you will be allowed to enter the screening checkpoint, where you may be subject to additional screening. This one little detail can make the difference between a smooth security check and waving goodbye to your flight from the terminal entrance. ©CNBC via Getty Images 4. Don’t Think You Don’t Need TSA Anymore With the July 2025 rule change allowing all passengers to keep their shoes on, some travelers might wonder if PreCheck is still worth it. The short answer? Absolutely. PreCheck members still skip removing belts, light jackets, and laptops, keep liquids tucked safely in carry-ons, and often get through security in under 10 minutes, compared to 20–30 minutes in standard lines. PreCheck is still like the Lightning Lane for airport security, and it’s one line you actually want to be in. MCO Airport For more travel tips, be sure to follow us at DFB. 21. Sure, the calendar indicates there are 11 weeks until Halloween. But Florida’s theme parks say it’s about to get spooky in these parts. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, the after-hours, extra-ticket event at Magic Kingdom, kicks off Friday night. And while that may seem scary early, demand is here. Five of the first seven Not-So-Scary nights — all in August — are sold out, including opening night. There’s still time to get tickets and your act together. This one-stop list covers the big Halloween events at Orlando-area theme parks — the when, the where and the howl. Walt Disney World / CortesaMarching pirates are a flashy part of Mickey's Boo-to You Halloween Parade during Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom. (Courtesy Walt Disney Co.)Main Street treats Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party runs on select nights between Aug. 15 and Oct. 31. The event starts after the park closes to regular day guests, and it requires its own admission ticket. The evenings are filled with returning favorites such as Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade; “Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular,” a fireworks and lasers presentation; and “Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular,” a Sanderson Sisters stage show at the foot of Cinderella Castle. There are also dressed-up character interactions, dance parties (one is inspired by Disney Channel’s “Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires”) and park-wide trick-or-treating included with Not-So-Scary admission. The Storybook Circus area of Fantasyland will be geared to families with younger children, Disney says. Ticket prices vary with dates and range between $119 and $229 per night. Ticket holders can get entry to Magic Kingdom at 4 p.m. on their event date. More info: disneyworld.com Key extinguished letters from Mel's Drive-In spell out a completely different message during Halloween Horror Nights. This year, a Mel's "street experience" is planned for HHN. (Dewayne Bevil/Orlando Sentinel)Haunted house party Halloween Horror Nights is an intense fright fest staged at Universal Studios Florida. It’s held on select nights between Aug. 29 and Nov. 2. The key part of HHN is its elaborate haunted house program. This year there are 10 mazes, four of which are based on existing media, including the “Terrifier” films, “Fallout” videogame and TV series, “Five Nights at Freddy’s” and Jason Universe, featuring the villain from the “Friday the 13th” franchise. One house carries a WWE theme and is named the Horrors of the Wyatt Sicks. The five original houses are called Grave of Flesh, El Artista: A Spanish Haunting, Galkn: Monsters of the North, Dolls: Let’s Play Dead and Hatchet and Chains: Demon Bounty Hunters. The event will have four scare zones, essentially outdoor, queue-free haunts. Themes will include a decaying conservatory, a vampire masquerade ball, 1920s mobsters amid radioactive cargo and a cat lady. Universal is introducing, with little explanation, two “street experiences” named Mel’s Die-In Zombies and Club Horror (featuring undead DJs). As these descriptions and details indicate, Horror Nights is for mature audiences. Even Universal Orlando considers this event to be rated PG-13, although it has no age requirements for attendees. HHN shows include “Nightmare Fuel: Circus of Decay” on stage and “Haunt-O-Phonic: A Ghoulish Journey” above the lagoon. Single-night tickets, purchased online, range between $85.99 and $131, depending on the date. There are several types of multinight passes that can have express lane powers for haunted houses added. Those range in price from $199.99 to $1,199.99 (peaking with Ultimate Frequent Fear Pass — valid every night — with Express). Universal also offers R.I.P. tours for behind-the-scenes of the mazes. New this year is a tour that includes a buffet lunch, but read all the fine print about availability and timing for these activities. Lastly, Horror Nights again offers Premium Scream Night on Aug. 28, the eve of opening night. It includes limited capacity (meaning shorter wait times), staggered entry into the houses, food and drink opportunities and self-parking. It’s $415 per person. (Courtesy SeaWorld Orlando)Gentle versus jarring SeaWorld Orlando is the only local park that presents two different kinds of Halloween events. It’s Spooktacular, which runs Aug. 30 to Nov. 2, is a gentle, family-friendly time included with regular daytime admission to the theme park. It’s Howl-O-Scream, an after-hours/separate-ticket event, rests solidly in the bloody/intense category. Howl runs on select nights between Sept. 5 and Nov. 1. Howl-O-Scream has five haunted houses, three of them appearing at the event for the first time. The fresh ones are Rave Yard (underground party, so to speak, at a cemetery), Collector’s Curse (artifacts, secrets, mutations) and Widow’s Nest (seamstress driven mad by grief). Returning mazes are Farm 51 and Water’s Edge Wellness Center. Six scare zones are planned, with four new ones featuring reflections in glass, a festering swamp and an abandoned scrapyard with disfigured souls, according to the SeaWorld website. Hellzapoppin Circus Sideshow will be featured in “The Grave Danger Thrill Show” with stunts and illusions and “Monster Stomp” stage show returns to mix percussion with the Jack the Ripper era. Single-night tickets for Howl-O-Scream range between $34.99 and $58.99 if purchased online. The event sells an unlimited admission ticket for $109.99 as well as a two-park ticket that includes the Howl-O-Scream event at sister park Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. The daytime Spooktacular includes the Sesame Street Halloween Parade, scavenger hunt, crafts, scarecrow-themed dance party, pumpkin garden with storyteller, costume contest (Fridays only), a dry-land interaction with a mermaid and a harvest maze. The park offers a trick-or-treat trail for guests who purchase a reusable bag. It happens on select days between Sept. 20 and Nov.1, sticking primarily to weekends. The Halloween event leans heavily into its monster minifigures, including rarely seen characters such as Lego Shark Suit Guy and Lego Square Foot. They’re also featured at Brick-or-Treat dance parties. Legoland, which caters to the 2- to 12-year-old demographic, spreads its trick-or-treating stations across the park. The days are capped with “Monster Skytacular,” a drone show with fireworks. Brick-or-Treat is included with regular Legoland Florida admission. 22. It’s almost time for the last dance for Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. The final chance to board Universal Studios theme park’s 16-year-old roller coaster will be Sunday. Work on a successor attraction is evident in the space bounded by the Rockit, Universal CityWalk, Hard Rock Cafe and the building that was once home to Blue Man Group. There’s a construction wall, a pile of dirt and somewhat heavy machinery. Universal Orlando has not announced a new attraction yet. Although rides have a limited life span, there haven’t been too many just plain ol’ removed from Orlando’s parks in the past five decades. There have been maintenance and upgrades along with retheming, such as Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster becoming Trollercoaster. And there have been complete track replacements at Magic Kingdom’s Space Mountain and for the Incredible Hulk Coaster at Islands of Adventure over the years. We had to travel, figuratively, down Interstate 4 to come up with a decent list of bygone coasters. At the risk of becoming too sentimental, throw your hands up in the air for these thrill rides of yesteryear. A car tops out of the non-inverting loop of Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, a soon-to-be-former roller coaster at Universal Studios. (Dewayne Bevil/Orlando Sentinel)Rockit, man • What and where: Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, Universal Studios • When: August 2009-August 2025 • What it was known for: The music-inspired steel coaster arrived with onboard speakers so riders could hear songs they selected just before heading up the straight-up lift hill. They then fell down into a loop with ride vehicles twisting and ending up above the rail and overlooking CityWalk for a millisecond. Later, the ride appeared to burst through the facade of New York scenes before winding back to the front of the park, crowd surfing above the queue, then doing circular maneuvers and gliding back into the loading station. Critics found the curved lap bar to be awkward and the journey seemed too short. • What’s next: We await Universal update. But it’s selling a “Rip Ride Rock’d it” T-shirt. Dueling Dragons was one of the original rides to open with Universal's Islands of Adventure in 1999. (Orlando Sentinel file)Kind of a dragon • What and where: Dueling Dragons/Dragon Challenge, Islands of Adventure • When: May 1999-September 2017 • What it was known for: Dueling Dragons was a two-rail, inverted, racing coaster in the park’s Lost Continent section, known for (apparent) close calls between vehicles. It was rethemed to meld with the opening of the first Wizarding World of Harry Potter and renamed Dragon Challenge in 2010. • What happened next: After some incidents and injuries, operating procedures were changed to include metal detectors and staggered start times, ending the dueling aspect. Eventually, the ride was dismantled, and a newly constructed Potter-themed coaster named Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure opened in June 2019. JOE BURBANK, ORLANDO SENTINELThe land beneath the former Primeval Whirl ride eventually will be part of Tropical Americas at Disney's Animal Kingdom. (Joe Burbank/Orlando Sentinel)Whirl-y gig • What and where: Primeval Whirl, Disney’s Animal Kingdom • When: March 2002-March 2020 • What it was known for: Four-passenger vehicles would spin unpredictably while going up and down hills amid sound effects. It had dinosaur versus meteor theming as part of Dinoland USA. It had also been involved in the deaths of two workers in the theme park. Primeval Whirl shifted to seasonal operation in 2019 and never reopened after Walt Disney World’s pandemic shutdown in 2020. • What happened next: The site was behind construction walls for years, but now it is part of Disney’s plan for a Tropical Americas land featuring “Encanto” attractions. Ed Sackett, Orlando SentinelCypress Gardens visitors try out the Swamp Thing coaster in 2006. In the Legoland era, it was called Flying School. (Orlando Sentinel file)Legoland’s next frontier • What and where: Swamp Thing, Cypress Gardens and then Flying School at Legoland Florida • When: 2004-2008, 2011-2023 • What it was known for: The inverted family coaster was added when the Winter Haven attraction was adding more adventurous offerings. When Legoland took over there, the ride was converted to be themed with other Lego City attractions such as Boating School and the Ford Driving School. • What happened next: Flying School closed in 2023; this summer, Legoland announced that a space-themed indoor coaster would open on that site in early 2026. George Skene/Orlando Sentinel fileThe line was long for the Starliner roller coaster's last day at Cypress Gardens in 2008, (Orlando Sentinel file)Starcrossed • What and where: Starliner, Cypress Gardens • When: 2007-2008 • What it was known for: The wooden coaster, built in 1963 for Miracle Strip Amusement Park attraction in Panama City Beach, was dismantled and rebuilt in Winter Haven. It was considered the state’s oldest coaster. • What happened next: So much, including another reinvention of Cypress Gardens, then Merlin Entertainments’ purchase of the land to open Legoland Florida. Executives decided Starliner didn’t go with Lego, so it was dismantled again. After that, there were reports of a sale, storage of pieces near Tampa, and goals of reconstructing at a new version of Miracle Strip or elsewhere in the Florida Panhandle. Bottom line: You can’t currently ride “Florida’s Original Scream Machine.” ASSOCIATED PRESSThe original Gwazi ride at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay had two "sides." One was lion-themed and the other was tied to tigers. (Associated Press file)Gwazi land • What and where: Gwazi, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay • When: June 1999-2015 • What it was known for: Dueling wooden roller coasters — one side was Lion and one side was Tiger — opened to rollicking reviews, but eventually, enthusiasts complained of uncomfortably rough rides. The park scaled down to one rail in 2012, then shut it all down in 2015. • What happened next: The structure was demolished in late 2018 in favor of a new steel coaster named Iron Gwazi, which debuted in spring 2022 and has a top speed of 76 mph. 25. Holiday parties at Disney World are already magical, but this year one is letting you in on the fun even earlier. Jollywood Nights Disney’s Jollywood Nights is returning for the 2025 holiday season, and while we’re already excited for the music, snacks, and rare characters, there’s a big change coming to the schedule. In 2024, guests with event tickets could step into Disney’s Hollywood Studios starting at 6 PM. This year, you’ll get in 30 minutes earlier — and if you know Disney like I know Disney, that half hour can be gold. Let’s break down what’s new for the 2025 season, including this fresh early-entry perk. The Early Entry Upgrade Here’s the headline: Jollywood Nights 2025 ticket holders can now enter Hollywood Studios starting at 5:30 PM. That’s a solid 2 hours before the event officially kicks off at 7:30 PM, giving you extra time to explore, grab snacks, and knock out a ride or two before the party even starts. Jollywood Nights If you’ve been to Disney during the holidays, you know how packed schedules can get. Between entertainment, character meet-and-greets, and all the must-try treats, the night can fly by. An extra 30 minutes means you can ease into the evening instead of rushing from the moment the gates open. Jollywood Nights In 2024, that early entry started at 6 PM. Thirty minutes might not sound like much on paper, but in the parks, it’s the difference between riding Slinky Dog Dash without a crazy wait or having time to sit down for an early dinner before the event fun begins. Why This Matters Jollywood Nights is a separately ticketed event — meaning you don’t need a regular park ticket to get in, just your party ticket. This early entry perk lets you use that ticket for bonus park time without the extra cost of a full-day admission. Jollywood Nights And for anyone who’s been to Hollywood Studios, you know that extra time can be clutch. You can get in line for a ride before party-exclusive entertainment even starts, take photos in daylight while the decorations sparkle, or grab your spot for one of the event’s big shows without feeling like you’re sacrificing ride time. Jollywood Nights! Plus, with the holiday crowd levels, earlier entry can help spread people out a bit, making the first part of the night feel less hectic. The Rest of the 2025 Fun That’s not the only update coming to Jollywood Nights this year. Disney is loading up the event with brand-new entertainment and food options. Here’s what’s on the confirmed list for 2025: Miguel at Holiday Fiesta en la Calle — now in a brand-new location near Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. Two new shows: The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure and Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After. Specialty menu at Backlot Express Restaurant (Disney says more details are coming soon). A new Jollywood Nights merch collection, including a special Spirit Jersey for collectors. ©Disney These join returning favorites like Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!, Glisten! (the stunning ice skating show on Hollywood Boulevard), and the Nightmare Before Christmas Sing-Along at Hyperion Theater. You’ll also still find the jazz lounge at The Hollywood Brown Derby, the lively Latin Street Fair, and the Tower Hotel Courtyard’s “other-worldly soiree.” Party Details and Dates Jollywood Nights will run on select nights in November and December 2025: November: 8th, 15th, 17th, 22nd, 24th, 29th December: 1st, 6th, 10th, 13th, 17th, 20th, 22nd The event lasts from 7:30 PM to 12:30 AM. Thanks to the new perk, ticket holders can now enter Hollywood Studios as early as 5:30 PM. Agent P Croissant Tickets will cost between $159 and $199 per person (plus tax), depending on the date. They go on sale for Disney World hotel guests — as well as Swan and Dolphin Hotels and Shades of Green guests — on July 16th. The public sale starts on July 22nd. How to Make the Most of the Extra 30 Minutes If you’re paying up to $199 for a single night, you’ll want to squeeze every drop of magic from your ticket. Here’s how you might use that earlier entry: Knock out a big ride early: Slinky Dog Dash, Tower of Terror, or Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run can have long waits even during events, so getting one done before 7:30 PM frees up your party time for other activities. Get your bearings: Hollywood Studios can feel busier at night with all the lights and entertainment. Arriving earlier lets you scope out the event map, snack locations, and showtimes before the official start. Grab event-exclusive snacks early: Holiday treats tend to draw lines as the night goes on. With the earlier entry, you might be able to beat the rush. Photos in better light: Holiday decorations look stunning after dark, but some shots really pop with that golden-hour glow. Arriving at 5:30 PM gives you both options. Santa Duffy at Jollywood The Bottom Line Jollywood Nights already packs in a ton of holiday entertainment, but this year’s early-entry perk makes it even more appealing for guests looking to maximize their night. That extra 30 minutes might mean fewer lines, more shows, and a less rushed pace — all good things when you’re working with a limited party window. Glisten! If you’re planning to go, mark those ticket sale dates now and decide which night you’re aiming for. And once you lock in your plans, think about how you’ll use that bonus time to your advantage. Because at Disney, thirty minutes can be the difference between “we missed it” and “we did it all.” Jollywood Nights We’ll keep an eye out for more 2025 Jollywood Nights announcements — especially menu details and any surprise entertainment — so keep it right here for the latest updates! 3 Major Changes We’re Expecting for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party in Disney World Will you be going to Jollywood Nights?
