I’ve been going to Disney World for my job for nearly five years now, and in that time, I’ve seen plenty of souvenir trends come and go. Pooh Bear nuiMO From the rose gold phase to the Minnie ears craze to the time when people were willing to wear Spirit Jerseys even in the summer and fans were busting down the doors of gift shops to get their hands on the latest Starbucks tumblers, it feels like I’ve seen it all. But I know that trends will continue to come and go, and I’m okay with that. Except for my favorite trend — Disney killed it and I’m still bitter. You guys, I was obsessed with Disney’s nuiMOs, and I’m not afraid to admit it. My nuiMO and I were the best of park buddies, and I would’ve gathered a whole family of little nuiMO friends if Disney hadn’t killed the trend before it was through. nuiMO Plushes I’ll admit, when nuiMOs first released, I was skeptical. They dropped in the parks and online with their unusually high prices for plushes so small, and I recognized a marketing scam on SIGHT. I scoffed at the people who would fall for such a thing — spending $20 on the doll alone, then paying extra for tiny outfits and bags, and hats? It would never become popular…or so I thought. SO many of them Within a few months, nuiMOs became popular, with Disney Adults and teens taking pictures of them on adventures around the parks and purchasing the cute little accessories to dress them in. I still wasn’t prepared to buy one, until people started wearing them on their bags. Anna nuiMO I witnessed people attaching them to the straps of their Loungefly backpacks and belt bags by wrapping hair ties around the nuiMO’s shoulders (kind of like putting a little backpack on them). It was a fun way to add some charm and character to your park outfit, and it seemed to be more practical and less cumbersome than the previously popular shoulder plushes. But I wasn’t quite convinced yet. nuiMOs backpack Then, I finally caved when Disney came out with the perfect nuiMO for me — a little Ahsoka Tano! She was in the height of popularity with a new Disney+ series on the way, and I had looooved watching her kick butt and take names in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels. She was a special character to me, and I already owned a matching Loungefly to attach her to. It was kismet! The day we found each other! For several months, tiny Ahsoka and I went on adventures around the parks. Every single time I wore her out, without fail, people would ask me where I purchased her. The masses were interested! She sold out quickly in most shops and then came back in stock in Star Traders only. I kept an eye on her to make sure she was still available there so that I could happily tell people when they asked. She traveled to all the parks with me, many resorts, and even hopped a plane to Disneyland. Ahsoka and I at Disneyland Park But unfortunately, I began to notice that Disney stopped releasing new nuiMOs. Just when the trend was trendy and the hype was high, popular nuiMO characters would sell out and then never come back in stock. Over the coming months, they would disappear from shelves almost entirely, just to be replaced by the next trend. And I feel like it was too soon! Oswald was VERY popular! You see, I wholeheartedly believe that Disney could’ve kept the nuiMO trend alive if they’d only just chosen the right characters to release. Ahsoka was a prime example! Choose rare characters or those with large fanbases. Kermit and Miss Piggy were very popular options before they sold out as well. Knowing the audience would’ve been key to keeping nuiMOs in style. Ahsoka and I Nowadays, I still see some nuiMO friends out and about every now and then. Some fans still proudly display them on their bags. And to you guys? I salute you. I, too, am a plush-carrying member of the nuiMO fan club. Let’s raise our glasses to bygone trends. Stay tuned to DFB for more Disney World news. There are SO many Halloween treats around Disney World! The Halloween Mickey Cinnamon Roll Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is officially underway, meaning the spooky season has kicked off at the resort! There are several party-exclusive snacks, and we’re checking out two returning Halloween sweets at Main Street Bakery in Magic Kingdom! Right now, you can grab two seasonal treats from Main Street Bakery during Mickey’s Not So Scary! While most people might assume it only features Starbucks-specific items, that’s not the case. First, you can find a fall version of the Mickey-shaped Cinnamon Roll for $7.49. The Mickey Cinnamon Roll! It’s a cinnamon roll with white icing and Halloween sprinkles on top. This one was chewy and pulled apart easily, which we appreciated! There were thick layers of cinnamon sugar inside and royal icing on top. We honestly needed a bit more icing in our opinion. A look inside! It’s a decent size for the price, but it’s not the best cinnamon roll you’ll find in Magic Kingdom. Gaston’s Tavern‘s Giant Cinnamon Roll will continue to take that crown! It is nice and shareable, but there are some more interesting and special options at the party. If you want something familiar, it can serve that purpose! It just needs… more! Next, we tried the Mickey-shaped Cheesecake for $6.49! It’s a pumpkin cheesecake with a graham cracker crust and a white chocolate-whipped ganache. Mickey-Shaped Cheesecake! We really loved the frosting on this one! In fact, we would argue that more cheesecakes need frosting. While yes, it was a frosting-topped cheesecake, no, it wasn’t too sweet. It was super soft and chilled, which we loved in the heat. The graham cracker crust added a nice texture, but it wasn’t too dry. The cheesecake itself had a very subtle pumpkin flavor and reminded us more of a traditional cheesecake than an in-your-face fall flavor dessert. A look inside! While both of these treats were tasty, we won’t say that they knocked us off our feet! There are some better, more exciting options throughout the party, which you can check out here. PLUS, you can get tons of candy at the different treat trails throughout the park, all included in your party ticket. We know you have a lot of options when it comes to flights, but this simple benefit might be what’s pushing us to book through United Airlines again. ©United Airlines You probably have all of your airline apps downloaded, but are you taking full advantage of all the benefits? The United Airlines app was recently updated, and we had the opportunity to use it in action. One of our favorite features was the step-by-step directions to our gate. ©United Airlines You know when you have a close connecting flight and you’re going to have to run off the place, and as soon as you step off, you start looking for your gate, but you have no idea where to start? This feature is changing that! ©United Airlines You can literally put in your exact gate number, so no more wondering why it goes from C12 to C14 and completely puts C13 in a different area. The app also has real-time flight updates. Because of the incredible directions added, it’s able to estimate your walk time between gates, which makes it easy to see if you’ll be able to make your connection. Of course, it’s actively updated flight times to make sure you have the most accurate information. ©United Airlines One of our favorite parts is that the app will let you know if United can hold your plane during a tight connection. They’ll message you about it so you’re ready to hop off the plane quickly, or if you know you’ll have to reschedule. ©United Airlines It also has recommendations at the airport! From restaurants to try or activities to check out, it will make it easier to spend more time at the airport. We love that United Airlines is acknowledging how difficult connecting flights can be to manage, so they’re making it as easy as they can. With easy directions, real-time status updates, and constant communication, United is making flying just a little bit less stressful. ©United Airlines Don’t want to go through all of the stress of booking your Disney World trip alone? There’s a NEW Halloween bar in Disney World! Alien Invader Sliders Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar is one of our favorite themed hangouts in Disney World, located in The Landing at Disney Springs. The bar/restaurant itself is Indiana Jones-themed, but around the holiday season, it gets a festive overlay. Now, for the first time, Jock Lindsey’s is also doing a Halloween overlay! Disney invited us out to check out Jock Lindsey’s Halloween Hangar Bar during a media event, and we got to see the space decorated, as well as try a couple of the treats on the menu (no tricks, here!). Let’s go! All throughout the space, there are seasonal decorations, from pumpkins to spooky cats to black and orange garlands. The decor They really outdid themselves with the theming here! Check out the jack-o-lanterns — the kitschy decor is the perfect vibe for a place like this. It’s so themed! And of course, the menu is themed to match! There’s a little bit of spooky, a little bit of eerie, and a LOT of delicious. Menu Starting out this seasonal menu are four different drinks. First is The Spike Trap for $16.50. It’s made with Malibu Coconut Rum, Stoli Vanilla Vodka, cream of coconut, and Sprite, garnished with a ghost marshmallow. The Spike Trap Next up is the Scarab Beetle Essence, which is $16.50 as well. This one’s made with Siesta Key Silver Rum, Malibu Coconut Rum, Bols Blue Curaçao Liqueur, DOLE Pineapple juice, and grenadine. Scarab Beetle Essence The Snake Egg Surprise is a mocktail option for $6.75. It’s made of Simply Lemonade, lime juice, desert pear syrup, and green apple boba pearls. Snake Egg Surprise The fourth drink was the one our reporter got to try — the Cauldron Cooler for $17.50. It’s Hendrick’s Gin, Domaine de Canton Ginger Liqueur, lemon juice, simple syrup, and butterfly pea extract. Cauldron Cooler This drink changed colors when you add the vial to the beaker, which is super fun! Flavor-wise, it’s on the sweeter side and reminds us a bit of the violet sake, but not quite as intense. You definitely get notes of lavender and lemon without too much tartness, and it’s pretty strong overall on the alcohol end. This was so fun! Moving on to the food items, there are five different eats you can try on the seasonal menu. First up is the Skull of the Dead for $16, which is mojo pork, cheddar, flour tortilla, and pickle pico de gallo. Skull of the Dead These are served with a little syringe of sauce on the side that had a sriracha-like flavor. It wasn’t overly spicy but really enhanced the flavor of the quesadillas. The meat inside the quesadillas was tender and juicy, and you really got that mojo flavor coming through. This wasn’t the most exciting of the options, but it was really fun presentation-wise. Covered in sauce After that, we tried the Alien Invader Sliders for $16. These are made with crispy Nashville hot fried chicken, sliced provolone, dill pickle slices, cheddar-chive biscuit, and Queen olives. The sliders! This was one of our favorite items on the new menu! The olive eyeballs and pickle tongues make a truly stellar presentation here, and the spice rub on the chicken was fantastic. There was a bit of sweetness, but also a nice depth of favor without being too spicy. The biscuits were fluffy and moist and held up well without crumbling too much. YUM The Phantom Dumplings were $14. They’re chicken and pork dumplings wrapped in rice paper and served with teriyaki dipping sauce, and they look like little ghosties! Phantom Dumplings Of the bunch, we thought these were the cutest presentation-wise, with some deliciously juicy meatballs. The rice paper was kind of difficult to bite, but it might’ve been worth it for the presentation alone. They win the cutest treat! After that, we got the Zombie Eye Bites for $17. Traditional deviled egg filling, crispy fried chicken, and black olives make up this snack. Zombie Eye Bites Jock Lindsey’s is known for its deviled eggs, so it was no surprise that they had a Halloween version! These come served in a box, and there are a few different boxes you can get with your set of eggs. (Ours had beetles on it!) These were pretty classic deviled eggs with chicken on top — the filling was whipped and creamy, and it contrasted nicely with the crispy chicken. Overall, it reminded us of a chicken salad. They’re so fun! Last but not least, we tried the Cursed Mummy Sausages, which are $14. Mini smoked sausages wrapped in puff pastry and served with pomegranate-mustard sauce are made to look like mummies in a coffin! Wow! These come inside a box that makes noises and sounds when you open it. It makes five different sounds! They’re essentially pigs in a blanket, but the hot dog had a nice snap to it, and the dough was crispy on the outside with a nice buttery flavor. Presentation is incredible Overall, we had a blast at Jock Lindsey’s and ate some delicious new snacks! They’re really going hard into the aesthetics and presentation here, and it shows. So if you’re interested in some spooky vibes, make sure to stop by and check out the Halloween Bar this year. It’s open now! Inside We can’t wait to try even more seasonal eats around Disney World! In EPCOT, there are so many different rides to experience, foods to check out, and of course, drinks to try all over World Showcase. EPCOT Drinking around the world in EPCOT is one of the most popular experiences you can have, but we’ll admit, there are some times where drinking around the pavilions is NOT the best idea. Sure, when you’ve got a big day coming up, or you’re with a younger group, it may not be a good time to get a drink from every pavilion. However, there’s another situation, in fact, a whole season, where drinking isn’t recommended — when it’s HOT. Extreme heat can trigger heat-related illnesses, especially in kids and seniors, as well as those with chronic health conditions, according to the Centers for Disease Control. This can include things like intense sweating, muscle cramps, dizziness, and nausea. Extreme heat causes over 700 deaths annually in the United States, which is why it’s important to know that heat-related alerts have now been issued for 18 states for this upcoming week. Have you ever been drinking around the world? However, battling the heat isn’t just about staying hydrated or keeping yourself cool by stepping into the shade or staying inside when you can. According to Newsweek, it’s also about avoiding alcohol. Yes, drinking alcohol in higher temperatures makes things EVEN worse, and with how hot it’s going to be this upcoming week, it’s recommended people stay away from drinking in the following states: South Dakota Nebraska Texas Iowa Louisiana Alabama Florida Georgia North Carolina South Carolina Drinking around the world is fun, but maybe not during this time of year. We don’t want to ruin your drinking around the world plans, but drinking + extreme heat is almost always a recipe for disaster. Both interact to increase the effects of each other on you, which can quickly lead to dehydration (as alcohol does cause you to lose fluid faster), impaired judgement, and the inability to regulate your temperature. While First Aid is available in each Disney World park, the last thing you want is to need to use their services while intoxicated as you’re also hot as can be. Grand Marnier Orange Slush If you do find yourself feeling dizzy, too hot, or unable to cool down, or like you’re going to pass out, we recommend sitting down inside immediately, and if you don’t begin to feel better in around 5 minutes, head to first aid if you feel you can make it. Otherwise, contact a nearby Cast Member to let them know what’s going on. While it may feel embarrassing, the last thing you want is to actually pass out or get sick in the middle of the park, when you could have avoided it by taking things slow and monitoring yourself closely. Dining in Disney World is a passion of ours! So many Halloween snacks! We’ve been diving into Disney World’s Halloween treats for over 15 years, and this year is no different! Now, we’re headed to 3 different hotels to try out 4 brand-new fall treats. When it comes to Halloween treats, Disney World does it right! There are tons you can enjoy around the parks, especially during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. While the parks do it right, the resorts are seriously underrated when it comes to those perfect desserts. First, we started over at Gasparilla Grill at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort to grab the new Dulce de Leche Brownie! The Dulce de Leche Brownie! This is a chocolate brownie with a dulce de leche ganache and ginger pepita crumble for $5.49! What a way to start our day off! This was divine! The brownie was more of a cake consistency than a fudge brownie, so it was more pillowy and spongy. This was so good! The ginger crumble gets lost in the dulce de leche ganache, so it’s more caramel and chocolate than anything. The pepita gave it a nice crunch, which we loved. For the price, this was a nice treat to grab while we strolled around the resort. Have a bite! Next, we went to Trail’s End at Fort Wilderness for two treats! The first was the Headless Horseman Pop for $5.49. It was chocolate chip cookie dough and brownie dipped in white chocolate with a chocolate piece. The Headless Horseman Pop! This one was super cute, well-decorated, and incredible! The bulk of the flavor comes from the chocolate chip cookie dough, giving it a more gritty consistency like you would find in cookie dough. We loved that this was like eating cookie dough without the fear of getting sick! Plus, it has that nice layer of icing and chocolate to seal the deal. The inside! Second, we grabbed the Pumpkin Sugar Cookie for $3.99. It was a Halloween Sugar Cookie coated in dark and white chocolate. The Pumpkin Cookie! This one did look cute as well, but it felt like something we could buy anywhere. It was the grocery store style sugar cookie that you can almost taste the flour on. It was crumbly and dry. It was fun and cute, but we would definitely say skip if you’re looking for a soft, light sugar cookie. It’s pretty thin! Finally, we stopped by All-Star Music Resort to head to Intermissions Food Court to try the Apple Cinnamon Cupcake for $5.99! The Apple Cinnamon Cupcake Starting at the top, the apple cinnamon icing was not too sweet and didn’t feel like we were just eating lard. It also didn’t leave behind a film in your mouth, and you can taste the cinnamon in it, which made us feel the fall. The cupcake itself was so dense, but it was also moist enough that it stuck to our fingers. The inside! There were chunks of apple in this, which we loved… at first! The more we tried, the more we felt like the cupcake was underbaked and doughy in the middle. While it had real potential, we don’t know that we would go out of our way for this one again. Have a bite! There are so many amazing fall snacks around the Disney World resort, and these are just scratching the surface! Florida teachers and students are heading back to school with a little extra pixie dust from Disney VoluntEARS! Walt Disney World just wrapped up its biggest VoluntEARS event of the summer: the Back-to-School Supply Drive. Over 200 cast members gathered at ESPN Wide World of Sports to celebrate another successful drive and sort through the more than 135,000 supplies being donated to A Gift for Teaching. A Gift for Teaching is a nonprofit in Central Florida that helps provide free school supplies to teachers and students. Disney is one of the nonprofit’s longest and largest supporters, teaming up for more than 25 years to support individuals and families in Orange, Osceola, Lake, Seminole, and Polk Counties. On top of the school supplies donated by cast members, Disney is making an extra monetary donation that equates to about 360,000 school supplies. This joins the $500,000 donation the resort made earlier this summer to help fund local education programs. “My mother was a teacher for over 40 years, and I know how hard it was for her to get supplies for her kids,” said Jeff Ault, Resort Concierge at Disney’s Boardwalk Resort. “Being able to support teachers when they give so much to students is great!” For Jeff, volunteering and supporting teachers is a family affair. His mom is still an active volunteer with A Gift for Teaching, and his dad is a former cast member who brought Jeff along to VoluntEARS events growing up. “It’s just what my family did,” said Jeff. “Now as a cast member, I get to combine my two passions during the Back-to-School Supply Drive every year!” The summer at Walt Disney World was filled with other Disney VoluntEARS and community events just like the Back-to-School Supply Drive — from surprising teachers with park tickets to enjoy Cool Kid Summer, hosting students at Typhoon Lagoon for The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson and more. And with the holidays right around the corner, extra magic is on the way as Disney World gears up to celebrate the season of giving with Central Florida. When it comes to dining at Disney World, you’ve got a TON of options. Want something quick and easy? You’ve got it. Something middle of the road and comforting? Yep, that too. And if you’re looking for something upscale and luxurious, you can find that as well. Time to eat some poutine! We recently stopped by The Daily Poutine at Disney Springs to see what was cookin’, and now we’re bringing you our FULL review. Is it worth a stop on your next trip to the Most Magical Place on Earth? Find out here! Atmosphere The Daily Poutine is a kiosk located in Town Center and it serves up, yes, you guessed it — poutine! Daily Poutine As it’s a kiosk, there isn’t any designated seating for this restaurant, so you’ll want to take your food and find a bench nearby to enjoy it. Daily Poutine But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?! Menu Here you’ll find twists on the traditional and beloved Canadian french fry dish, including the Classic version, which is hot fries topped with beef poutine gravy and cheddar cheese curds. There are often limited-time options to explore on the menu, which is exactly why we prefer visiting this spot again and again. The Daily Poutine And now, onto the main event — the food! Eats First up, we grabbed the Buffalo Chicken Poutine for $10.49. It’s French Fries with Chicken Bites tossed in Buffalo Sauce, Garlic Ranch, Blue Cheese Crumbles, Carrots, and Celery. Buffalo Chicken Poutine This had a tiny kick to it, but nothing like what we normally expect from buffalo chicken. This one got soggy VERY quickly because all the sauce was at the bottom of the poutine, so that’s something to keep in mind. We thought the blue cheese and vegetables were a good addition, and while we may consider getting this one again, it’s not very high on our list. It wasn’t our favorite We also grabbed the Butter Chicken Poutine for $10.49, which is French Fries, Chicken, Tomato Curry Sauce and Paneer Cheese. Butter Chicken Poutine The chicken in here was very fresh, and we loved the balance between the butter chicken and fries — one didn’t feel more overpowering than the other. This does have a bit of a kick to it, though, so that’s something to keep in mind if you’re averse to spice. Very solid! Next up was the Korean Barbecue Poutine for $10.49, which is French Fries, Asian Barbecued Pulled Pork, Kimchi, and Sriracha Aïoli. Korean Barbecue Poutine We really enjoyed this one! It was sweet, sweeter than the others we had, so the balance between sweet and savory was great. The pulled pork was perfectly tender and very easy to chew, but since the veggies were more on the crunchy side, the texture balance was perfect. We’d absolutely get this one again! We’re big fans of this one! Finally, we had the traditional Canadian Poutine for $10.49, which is French Fries, Beef Poutine Gravy and Cheddar Curds. Canadian Poutine The fries were a little dry here, so we feel there could have been some more gravy in the dish. We also enjoyed the cheese curds, but felt they were all clumped and melted together in one place, so it was just one big chunk of cheese in the middle. If you find yours is similar, we recommend spreading it out before it melts too much! Nosh or Not This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if… You love poutine BUT aren’t expecting it to be the best you’ve had You’re more of an adventurous eater You love Canadian cuisine and fun twists on it You should skip this Disney World spot if… You want to dine at a spot that has plenty of seating You’re not a fan of any form of poutine You’re not anywhere near Disney Springs Overall We think this is a great spot for some good poutine, and we love how the menu changes throughout the year! Is it the best poutine you’ll ever have? No, not at all, but it’s solid, and we enjoy coming back time and time again to check out their offerings. All our poutines! On June 11th, the Walt Disney Company and NBCUniversal filed a lawsuit against AI company Midjourney over alleged copyright infringement. The Walt Disney Company The lawsuit stated that Midjourney’s image-generating service “functions as a virtual vending machine” that creates “endless unauthorized copies” of copyrighted works. After a couple of months, we finally have an update on the matter — so let’s take a look! Midjourney has issued its first response to the lawsuit brought by Disney and Universal, arguing that “the studios have no power to prevent AI training on their works,” according to Variety. The two studios filed a lawsuit claiming that “users on the platform were able to produce nearly identical copies of the studios’ copyrighted characters.” Magic Kingdom Midjourney responded back to the studios, arguing that AI training is protected by “fair use.” Midjourney’s lawyers made a statement claiming, “copyright law does not confer absolute control over the use of copyrighted works. The limited monopoly granted by copyright must give way to fair use, which safeguards countervailing public interests in the free flow of ideas and information.” Universal Orlando The AI company also argued that the studios are trying to “have it both ways” — claiming they are using AI tools themselves, while also seeking to punish a popular AI service. Per Variety, Midjourney is a very popular AI tool among visual effects companies and other vendors that work with Disney and Universal. It was even claimed that “many dozens” of Midjourney’s subscribers have email addresses that are directly linked to both Disney and Universal — which suggests both studios’ own employees are even using the service. Walt Disney Studios in Burbank The filing also stated, “plaintiffs cannot have it both ways, seeking to profit through their use of Midjourney and other generative AI tools — from industry-standard AI training practices on the one hand, while on the other hand accusing Midjourney of wrongdoing for the same,” according to Variety. Walt Disney Company Headquarters in Burbank The main point that the Disney-Universal lawsuit largely focuses on is that AI outputs created by Midjourney users are substantially similar to the studios’ copyrighted works. However, Midjourney states that “its users are required to adhere to the terms of service, which forbid infringing on intellectual property rights.” But just creating images similar to copyrighted works is not enough to show infringement, according to the company’s lawyers. Hogwarts at Universal Orlando We’ll be keeping a close eye on this, so make sure to stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest. EPCOT can feel like it’s full of little secrets hiding in plain sight. EPCOT’s The Land Pavilion Even if you’ve been to the park dozens of times, there are always unspoken rules and traditions that seasoned Disney fans swear by. One of the biggest of these takes place in The Land Pavilion, which is already home to some of EPCOT’s most iconic attractions and dining options. If you’ve ever walked into The Land, chances are you’ve missed the one unspoken rule that Disney fans won’t stop talking about. Always Ride Living With the Land This is the unspoken rule you need to follow. If you walk into The Land Pavilion and skip Living With the Land, you’re doing EPCOT wrong. It might not have the thrills of Soarin’ or the crowds of Sunshine Seasons at lunch, but it’s one of those quintessential EPCOT experiences that captures what the park was always meant to be about: education, innovation, and just a little bit of Disney magic. Living with the Land Living With the Land is a slow-moving boat ride that takes you through different biomes, from deserts to rainforests to prairies, before heading into the working greenhouses that actually grow food used around Disney World. Living with the Land It sounds like it could be boring, but once you ride it, you realize how uniquely Disney it really is. It’s peaceful, relaxing, and honestly a perfect break from the chaos of the rest of the park. Plus, it’s indoors and air-conditioned, which is a major win in the middle of a hot Florida day. Why It’s Such a Big Deal Part of the reason Living With the Land is such a fan-favorite is because it feels like classic EPCOT. It combines real-world education with futuristic technology and layers it in with Disney storytelling. Even though it doesn’t have a big drop or a flashy storyline, it’s the ride that so many Disney fans refuse to skip because it gives you something that other attractions don’t. Living with the Land For families, it’s a great way to sneak in a little education while still entertaining the kids. For Disney adults, it’s a nostalgic trip that reminds them of EPCOT’s original vision. And for tired parkgoers, it’s an oasis where you can sit down, enjoy the cool air, and float through lush greenhouses that are way more impressive than you might expect. The Best Time to Ride Another reason this unspoken rule exists? Living With the Land rarely has long wait times. While people are packing into Soarin’ or heading to Cosmic Rewind across the park, this ride is often a walk-on. That means you can enjoy it in the middle of the day when everything else feels like it’s an hour-long wait. Living with the Land Even better, if you ride during the holidays, the entire attraction gets a seasonal overlay called Living With the Land: Glimmering Greenhouses. Lights and decorations transform the ride into something extra magical, making it a must-do for anyone visiting EPCOT in November or December. That alone has cemented the ride as a fan tradition. What You’ll Miss If You Skip It Skipping Living With the Land means you’re missing a piece of EPCOT history. You’re also skipping one of the few places in the park where you can see something truly unique. Where else can you float past nine-pound lemons, Mickey-shaped pumpkins, and futuristic growing systems that are being studied for use in space travel? Tomatoes It’s easy to look at it and think, “Oh, it’s just a boat ride about plants,” but the moment you experience it, you realize why Disney fans hold it so dearly. There’s something strangely calming about drifting through those greenhouses and realizing that what you’re seeing is both real and magical. The Unspoken Rule So here it is: If you walk into The Land Pavilion, you ride Living With the Land. No exceptions. You can grab a meal at Sunshine Seasons, you can ride Soarin’, you can even stop for a snack at the coffee cart. But if you leave without boarding that boat, you’ve broken the one unspoken EPCOT rule that true fans know by heart. Living with the Land As Disney fans ourselves, we totally get the urge to skip it for something flashier. But Living With the Land is one of those rides that grows on you the more you experience it. It’s the ride people laugh about skipping on their first trip and then defend passionately on every trip after. So the next time you’re at EPCOT, follow the unspoken rule. Ride Living With the Land, and you’ll understand why fans never skip it. Stay tuned to DFB for more Disney World tips! The Unspoken Disney World Rule You Should Follow at the Morocco Pavilion in EPCOT Have you ridden Living With the Land in The Land Pavilion in EPCOT? Let us know in the comments below. It’s no secret that vacations to Walt Disney World or the Universal Orlando Resort are expensive. Take it from someone who has been traveling to the area for years: from travel, lodging, and theme park tickets to souvenirs, food, and rental cars, a trip to the Central Florida tourist area can cost a pretty penny. Suffice it to say, the last thing most travelers want to deal with is a “hidden” charge that arrives days or even weeks after they arrive home. Cinderella Castle This “hidden tax” afflicts travelers who fly into Orlando International Airport (MCO) and then rent a car. See, driving from the airport to Disney World, Universal, or any of the area’s other tourist attractions will take you across some toll roads. While the amount will vary depending on the route you take, there will be a charge. Most rental car drivers likely don’t even realize how much they’ll owe, as usually they’ll be paying through toll transponders. According to AAA, these toll transponders — which use brand names like E-ZPass, SunPass, and others around the country — are electronic devices that can track tolls. Instead of paying at the toll booth, drivers are sent a bill after a specified amount of time or in most modern cases, can connect a credit card to the drive to be charged immediately. When it comes to rental cars, their billing programs involve transponders in the car, which will process each toll driven through. The bill is then sent to the rental company, who then sends the bill along to the renter weeks or sometimes even months after their trip ends. Rental Cars at Orlando International Airport Several of the major rental companies handle these types of toll bills slightly differently. Avis uses e-Toll, a direct bill program in which the toll costs are passed along to the renter, along with a convenience fee of $6.95 for each day you incur a toll. These fees are capped at $34.75 per rental month. Of note, drivers will be charged for the tolls at their highest rate, without any of the discounts that are sometimes offered to cashless payers. Hertz program is called PlatePass All-Inclusive Tolling. This is similar to Avis’ unlimited program, with a daily fee of around $18.99. Drivers who don’t opt into Hertz PlatePass be charged a $9.99 daily convenience fee, and the undiscounted toll charge will be passed on to you. Finally, Enterprise, the world’s largest rental car company, uses a TollPass Service, whose rates vary based on the rental state and whether the location is airport-based. Most daily fees range from $3.95 to $4.95 and are capped at $30 per rental period. Florida also uses a “pay by plate” tolling system, where cars that do not have an active transponder will see tolls charged to the owner of the vehicle tied to its license plate. Once again, if driving with a rental car, the tolls will be passed on to the rental car company, who in turn turn the bill over to drivers, usually with fees attached. As for cash? At this time, only four Florida Turnpike facilities still directly accept U.S. currency: Beachline West (SR 528), Sunshine Skyway Bridge (I-275), Alligator Alley (I-75), and Garcon Point Bridge (SR 281). So, is there a way to avoid being sent a bill for this “hidden tax” after the fact? ©SunPass The Visitor Toll Pass is a temporary rental car toll pass for visitors traveling roundtrip through the Orlando International Airport (MCO). Drivers who use the pass will pay tolls electronically on all Florida toll roads, express lanes and most bridges, and, according to Toll Pass, can save as much as 80% compared to rental car toll programs. To use Visitor Toll Pass, guests affix a temporary pass — this tag can be reserved through an app and picked up at MCO — to their rental car’s back window and be connected to a credit or debit card, which then directly charges drivers. Of note, if you use the Visitor Toll Pass, you will need to decline the rental car company’s toll program when picking up your car, unless you want t0 be charged twice. ©Visitor Toll Pass Tolls are often a “hidden tax” that catches rental car drivers off guard weeks after the end of their Central Florida vacation. However, there are ways to avoid being hit with a bill long after returning home. Stay tuned to DFB for more Disney travel tips. Here at Disney Springs, Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar just got a fun and frightful makeover with ghostly new Halloween decor plus eerie eats and sinister sips. With all of that ghoulish fun in one fiendish location, it’s the perfect place for your next round of Halloween treats now through Nov. 4. New Halloween Hangar Bar Decor For the first time ever, Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar at Disney Springs is serving frights and frills amid Halloween-themed decor from Jock’s Halloween collection. Not to be confused with the holly jolly Christmas festivities during Holiday Hangar Bar you will be immersed in an all-new boo-tiful transformation. Pumpkin scarecrows meet you at the front entrance. Can you spy one in particular who flies an airplane? He’s mimicking the spirit of Jock Lindsey, but with a chilling twist. Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar transforms into a warm and inviting retreat during Halloween, blending the cozy glow of vintage lanterns with playful touches that feel more charming than chilling. The atmosphere feels like stepping into a nostalgic Halloween party from decades past, where stories are shared over themed cocktails and every corner offers a little discovery. For those with the tricky luck of dining in the diving bell, you’ve got company. A patch of Jack-O’-lanterns has taken up residence above your head, ready to flicker through the night. In the far corner of the bar, look for a card stock band of vintage Beistle-style black cat decorations watching over the room like little sentinels of Halloween past. Their mischievous eyes watch as you sip on your chosen concoction, seemingly plotting their next Halloween croon. All the Halloween decor has been added to Jock’s ever-growing collection of memorabilia from his rollicking pilot adventures. Perched high above and to the right of the bar, look for the “Bigelow’s Air Circus” banner with faded lettering and weathered canvas. Bigelow’s Air Circus is a reference to the 1991 Disney film The Rocketeer, and you may even see another reference to the film on a ‘South Seas Club’ coaster during your visit. Jock’s pet boa constrictor must be on the move, because, once again, Reggie’s cage is empty. When he returns, he’ll need to slink past a set of retro blow molds with expressive faces dancing with light. Festive tinsel garland, popularized in the 1940s, zigzags in front of Jock’s treasures, including a banner for his win in the National Air Races. Halloween Hangar Bar Bites The kitschy 1940s Halloween décor is the backdrop for nine new and exclusive sips and nibbles on the devilishly delicious Halloween Hangar Bar menu. Enjoy new and exclusive delectables such as the Alien Invader Sliders and Phantom Dumplings and sip on soul-stirring beverages like The Spike Trap and Cauldron Cooler. See the full Halloween Hangar Bar menu in our 2025 Halloween Foodie Guide. Who is Jock Lindsey? Jock is Indiana Jones’ barnstorming pilot who stumbled upon Disney Springs in 1938 while chasing down a mythology-based tip in Central Florida. His attraction to the town’s natural springs landed him here where he bought waterfront property and settled down. He then built an airplane hangar as his home base and thus Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar was born. The bar is packed with artifacts and references that tie into both Indiana Jones stories and the larger Society of Explorers and Adventurers (S.E.A.) universe, suggesting that Jock was either a member or closely connected to the society. His hangar became a meeting place for adventurers, blending the world of Indiana Jones with Disney’s rich mythology of exploration and global mystery. Keep the celebration going during Halloween at Disney Springs, whether you’re browsing shops with super hero costumes, enjoying live music with a seasonal twist, or sampling other Halloween-inspired menus. The Halloween Hangar Bar is just the beginning of a night full of tricks, treats, and unexpected surprises. This whole summer, Disney has significantly increased the number of entertainment offerings available around the parks for their Cool Kid Summer event. Rapunzel and Flynn Rider making a special appearance in Magic Kingdom for Cool KID SUMMER It’s brought new entertainment, characters, snacks, and more throughout all four parks. However, all good things have to come to an end, and summer is indeed coming to an end. This doesn’t just mean the name of the event is going away, though — a LOT of additions in the parks will also be going away, which will make all four parks look pretty different! For starters, the ticket deals that help you save on your kiddos’ tickets for the parks, as well as your hotel sta,y will be going away, which includes the following deals: 50% Off Kids Tickets through September 20th 3-Day, 3-Park Ticket for $89 per day through September 22nd Disney+ subscribers can save on rooms at select Disney Resort Collection hotels starting at $99 a night through August 31st Florida Resident Summer Magic Ticket through September 27th All-Star Movies Bus Stop However, the offerings inside the park are all going away as soon as September 2nd, as the Cool Kid Summer event officially runs through September 1st. In Magic Kingdom, this includes the Big Top Bash at Storybook Circus and its performers, the Galactic Blast at Tomorrowland, and the craft inspired by Elio inside Merchant of Venus. Big Top Bash! In EPCOT, the popular dance party GoofyCore at CommuniCore Hall will be going away. We’re going to miss dancing with the DJ while Goofy played games with guests. GoofyCore in EPCOT Over in Hollywood Studios, Get Animated at Animation Courtyard will be going away, which doesn’t just mean the show, but also the characters meeting outside, as well as the additional snack stand added. This is just in time to make way for the even bigger changes coming to Animation Courtyard as a whole. A new playground will be on the way, and “The Magic of Disney Animation” will be opening in 2026. Get Animated! The Disney Jr. Dance Party will not be opening until The Magic of Disney Animation opens in 2026, which will feature a new Disney Jr. show. ©Disney Finally, we’ll be saying goodbye to the nature-based Adventure All Around the Park offering in Animal Kingdom, which included adventures with Disney characters, limited-time Wilderness Explorers badges, and A Celebration Sing-Along at Discovery Island. There’s a scavenger hunt inside! We’re going to miss these offerings, as they’ve made the parks so lively this summer, but ready for full-on Halloween and Christmas to arrive. One of the best parts of being an Annual Passholder is the perks! The new Annual Passholder Drink! From the free magnets to the hotel discounts, there are so many touches of extra magic that come with that little yellow card. Now, a new exclusive item for Annual Passholders has arrived at Animal Kingdom, and it’s a truly sweet addition! If you’ve been to Disney World, you might know about a special little coffee option called Joffrey’s Coffee and Tea Company! Disney and Joffrey’s have been partners since 1995, and during that time, they’ve been whipping up specialty coffees and teas that we love! Joffrey’s in Animal Kingdom They’re located in every park, Disney Springs, and even a resort or two. While they aren’t exclusive to Disney World, these coffees do feel like a special treat when we’re in the parks because you can’t get them just anywhere. One fun exclusive drink they offer periodically is a rotating Annual Passholder drink! Right now, you can try out the Just Keep Swimming Frost for $6.49. The Just Keep Swimming! This drink is made with Joffrey’s signature frozen lemon, Minute Maid Lemonade, and blue raspberry syrup, topped off with Skittles Pop’d freeze-dried candy. This one is exclusive to Animal Kingdom, and we found it at Joffrey’s near Yak and Yeti Local Foods. We expected this one to be a lot sweeter, but it wasn’t overpowering! The Just Keep Swimming Freeze! While we love a sweet drink, it’s no secret that they can be hard to finish, so this was a pleasant surprise. It was essentially a blue raspberry lemonade but with a slushy texture. It has a slight sour tang, but it faded quickly as we continued to sip on it. The Skittles didn’t really serve a taste purpose, and they were a bit hard to drink. The Skittles! To get one, we almost had to dump the drink in our mouths rather than sip. The colors faded quickly in the drink, but that didn’t impact the taste. It was a good drink that we can see people really enjoying, but we aren’t screaming from the rooftops about it. It was nice and refreshing! We love it when Disney does Annual Passholder-exclusive items like this! In Animal Kingdom, you can currently grab the Crush Annual Passholder Magnet, too. New Crush magnet Not only that, head over to Finding Nemo: The Big Blue … and Beyond in Animal Kingdom, and you can try their limited-time Disney PhotoPass experiences! There will be special characters on the photos, including: August 7th to September 27th — Becky with a pail containing Nemo and Marlin as a Magic Shot September 4th to 27th — Post with a postcard of Mount Wannahockaloogie, and Peach the starfish will be added to the Magic Shot September 4th to 27th — Hank the octopus in a nautical Magic Shot Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond! There are tons of Annual Passholder exclusives happening right now in the park, and we are here for it! As always, be sure to keep following DFB for more Disney news, updates, reviews, and more. Cruises are supposed to be carefree, but there’s a brand-new rule that could seriously change how you plan your vacation budget. Royal Caribbean — Enchantment of the Seas (Left) and Mariner of the Seas (Right) If you’ve ever sailed on Royal Caribbean, you probably know that their drink packages are a huge part of the onboard experience. Whether you’re sipping poolside margaritas, grabbing an iced latte before a show, or toasting with wine at dinner, the beverage package makes it easy to indulge without stressing over the bill. But starting this year, Royal Caribbean has tightened up its rules in a way that might not sit well with every guest. If you’re booking a cruise soon, here’s the drink package update you absolutely need to know before you sail. No More Exceptions to the Rule For years, Royal Caribbean’s official policy has been that if one adult in a cabin buys the Deluxe Beverage Package, then every other adult of legal drinking age in that same cabin must buy it, too. The reasoning was simple: The cruise line didn’t want people buying one package and sharing drinks between multiple adults. ©Royal Caribbean Until now, though, there was some wiggle room. If you called customer service, you could sometimes score an exception. That meant one guest could choose the cheaper Refreshment Package (which doesn’t include alcohol) while their cabin-mate purchased the Deluxe. Maybe someone was pregnant, didn’t drink alcohol, or just wasn’t a big drinker — Royal Caribbean usually let it slide. Royal Caribbean Cruises As of August 1st, 2025, that flexibility is officially gone. Royal Caribbean has announced that it will no longer honor exceptions. If one adult in a stateroom buys the Deluxe Beverage Package, then all adults in the room must buy it — no matter the circumstance. Even medical reasons or personal preference won’t get you out of it. What the Deluxe Package Includes So what exactly are you paying for if you’re required to buy the Deluxe? A lot, actually. The package typically runs between $50 and $100 per person, per day, depending on your ship and when you purchase it. Here’s what you get: Cocktails, spirits, liqueurs, and beer Wines by the glass Still and sparkling water Fresh squeezed juices Fountain sodas Specialty coffees and teas Mocktails Royal Caribbean On a 7-night cruise, that can total more than $700 per person. For couples or groups traveling together, that adds up fast. The Refreshment Package (Now Off the Table If You’re Sharing a Cabin) Before this rule change, the Refreshment Package was a popular alternative for non-drinkers. It costs about $30 to $45 per person, per day, and includes: Coffees and teas Still and sparkling water Fresh squeezed juice Mocktails Fountain sodas Stateroom on Symphony of the Seas It’s about half the price of the Deluxe, and for people who don’t drink alcohol, it offered a way to still enjoy specialty beverages without overpaying. Now, if your roommate wants the Deluxe, you’ll have to buy it, too—even if you’d rather stick with mocktails. Why the Change? Royal Caribbean hasn’t issued a big public announcement, but internal communications suggest the main reasons are twofold: Too many exceptions. Over time, more and more people were calling in to request exemptions from the rule, which made it harder for the company to manage. Package sharing. Even though it’s against the rules, some guests were buying one Deluxe package and splitting drinks with their cabin-mate. Royal Caribbean To crack down, Royal Caribbean decided to remove the exceptions altogether. How to Save Without the Package If you’re not a heavy drinker, you might want to skip the Deluxe Package entirely and just buy your drinks à la carte. Here’s why: Most cocktails, beers, and wines range from $7 to $14 each. If you only plan to have 3–4 drinks per day, paying as you go could save you money. Royal Caribbean offers daily drink specials onboard that can help cut costs. Royal Caribbean Plus, if you’re a member of the Crown & Anchor Society, you may already have perks that reduce your need for a package. Diamond members get four free drinks per day (valued up to $14 each), and Diamond Plus members get five. Casino players with Club Royal Prime status or higher also enjoy free drinks while playing. Should You Still Buy the Deluxe Package? If you’re the type of cruiser who loves bottomless mimosas at brunch, piña coladas by the pool, wine with dinner, and an espresso martini at the theater, then the Deluxe Beverage Package can definitely be worth it. There’s no daily limit, unlike some other cruise lines, so you can indulge without counting. But if you’re more of a casual drinker—or if you’re traveling with someone who doesn’t drink at all—this new rule can make things tricky. Suddenly, both of you are locked into a costly package, even if only one of you plans to take full advantage of it. Royal Caribbean Royal Caribbean’s decision to enforce this rule is one of the most significant policy shifts in years. It means fewer options for cruisers who want to save money, but it also clarifies the expectations moving forward. Before you book your next sailing, make sure you factor this change into your budget — because whether you like it or not, if your roommate goes Deluxe, you’re going Deluxe, too. Get ready to set sail! Stay tuned to DFB for more cruise and travel news. It’s hurricane season! Flooding in Disney World This summer hasn’t brought us any overly dramatic weather so far at Disney World, other than rain, until Hurricane Erin started to form and make its way. Let’s take a look at the latest news! Last week, the National Hurricane Center reported that Hurricane Erin was strengthening to a Category 4. They reported that we could expect heavy rainfall in places such as the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Leeward Islands, and Puerto Rico. Rainy day in Disney World Now it’s being reported that Hurricane Erin has dropped down to a Category 2 hurricane as it was heading north in the Atlantic, according to the Orlando Sentinel. That being said, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) has been keeping track of two tropical waves that could follow in Erin’s path. ©Orlando Sentinal As of the NHC 8 AM update today, August 19th, the center of Erin was located about 720 miles south-southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, and 665 miles southwest of Bermuda. It was moving northwest at 7 mph with maximum sustained winds of 110 mph. This hurricane has been falling from major hurricane status for the first time since Saturday. ©Orlando Sentinal It was reported that the storm’s closest approach to Florida will be east of Cape Canaveral early Wednesday. That means winds won’t be a factor, and this should have little impact on any upcoming Disney World plans you have coming up! ©Orlando Sentinal An advisory was put out for those looking to go for a beach day: “Nonetheless, significant coastal and boating effects will be felt here. Building swells from Hurricane Erin will lead to an ongoing high risk of rip currents along with breaking waves of 5 to 8 feet producing rough pounding surf with minor beach and dune erosion, particularly during the high tide cycles,” was stated by the National Weather Service. “Overall, there will be dangerous conditions at the local beaches, and entering the surf is not advised.” It will rain on your Disney World trip, trust us. So, your next Disney World trip should be fine! Of course, it’s unknown if the storm will begin to strengthen again, as it did before, due to “more favorable environmental shear and upper-level divergence in 24-36 hours should support some re-intensification”. It could also continue to weaken due to its slow movement and larger size, upwelling cooler water. So, looking at what’s there, Disney World is not expected to be impacted. It may rain here and there, but that’s just Florida for you. It’s good that this hurricane won’t have any impact, as Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party has just begun!
