  2. Disney abandoned the Star Wars-themed hotel in Disney World for various reasons, primarily having to do with revenue. Many fans of the saga were disappointed they never got the opportunity to visit the ultra-immersive, cruise-like experience, while others weren’t surprised by its closing. Entrance to the Star Cruiser Now that it’s closed, it’s just a giant cement building sitting just outside Hollywood Studios. So, what does Disney plan to do with it, and have there been any updates? Let’s dig into the current state of the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser Hotel. Back in January 2025, we learned that the Galactic Starcruiser will be getting overhauled for use as an office space for Walt Disney Imagineering. So instead of welcoming guests back into those space-themed cruise rooms, Imagineers will be using them as office space to create, design, and implement new ideas for Disney theme parks. Perhaps this will soon be used as a meeting room?! Since January 2025, we hadn’t heard about any new updates for the Starcruiser or the new office building. Given the upcoming changes at Disney World, we might expect that Disney would want to get Imagineers into these new offices ASAP. But it wasn’t until the very end of August that we learned of a new permit filed for the Starcruiser for “General Construction.” This could pretty much be for ANY construction at the hotel, so it’s not a big clue about what’s going on there. Guests will no longer be using these rooms We have seen some aerial images from Bioreconstrct on X of the Starcruiser recently. These images show what the location looks like as of September 20th. Not much looks to have changed on the outside aside from some equipment, dumpsters, and some other subtle signs of construction. It’s probably a safe bet that more work is going on inside than outside. ©bioreconstruct However, there are markings along areas outside that are likely for underground utilities needed for the new office space. ©bioreconstruct So it appears that, yes, Disney is moving forward with the abandoned Starcruiser in some capacity. While there haven’t been too many major updates or announcements pertaining to the Starcruiser, we’re keeping our eyes peeled for any changes. 3. As professional Disney fans who are in the parks nearly every day, we’re always on the lookout for genius products that make our park days easier. We love popcorn! That means that every now and then we spot something that might not seem like a big deal at first, but eventually ends up being kind of life-changing. If you’re a popcorn bucket person, you’ll never use one the same thanks to this CHEAP upgrade! DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Our lives have forever been changed by this! Popcorn Bands These GRIFTI X Cross Style Bands (A.K.A. Popcorn Bands) are SO dang versatile — you can use them to stack food containers, keep your electronics organized, and a whole lot more. But if you ask us, they’re amazing for keeping those pesky lids on the classic Disney popcorn buckets! Look at that! We have personally been victimized by a loose lid more times than we can count — leaving us popcorn-less and sad. And who wants to be sad at Disney World?! These popcorn bands are a great way to keep your popcorn fresh and where it belongs (until it makes it to your taste buds, that is.) This is especially true if you’re traveling with kids, or anyone who may be a little clumsier — while popcorn refills are only a few dollars with a popcorn bucket (which is a great deal), no one wants to accidentally lose an entire bucket by dropping it! They certainly hung on very well! When we tried these bands out, they did a great job of keeping things sealed up, but they do tend to collect dirt and debris — so be careful where you set them down. It’s easy to wipe off, though, especially if you bring some wipes into the park with you! It’s also important to note that when we put the band on, in order to get it around the bucket and be able to lift the handle we had to take the handle off first, then wrap the band around it, then replace the handle. Grab yours! The only other downside we experienced was that we had to really hold the top of the lid while we grabbed the popcorn and replace it quickly, otherwise, the band would slip off and we’d have to repeat the process to get the band back around the entire thing which was a little bit annoying — but not as annoying as losing an entire bucket of popcorn you paid for! You can get a set of 5 “popcorn bands” on Amazon for just $10 — click the green button below to get yours. GET THEM ON AMAZON Popcorn bucket fans also won’t want to miss some of the super awesome new popcorn buckets in the parks right now, or in the near future. There’s an adorable Stitch Mummy Popcorn Bucket available in the parks now for Halloween… Stitch Mummy Popcorn Bucket …you can find the Ghost Halloween Popcorn Bucket over in Disneyland if you catch it on a day where it hasn’t sold out… Mickey Ghost Popcorn Bucket …and we also know the super cute Holiday Christmas Tree Truck Bucket will be coming to Disneyland, Aulani, and select Disney Cruise Line cruises this holiday season. ©Disney If you’re looking for popcorn buckets in Disney World or Disneyland, we highly recommend checking the popcorn stands around the park, but also looking at quick service restaurants! Some popcorn buckets are even available via mobile order at many of these locations, which can save you a lot of time. When in doubt, you can politely ask nearby Cast Members and they’ll be happy to help! 4. Caroline Schumacher became president and CEO of Give Kids the World Inc. in June. But she’s both the newbie and the veteran at the Kissimmee-based nonprofit. Her experience began with a volunteer shift while participating in the Disney College Program. After graduation in Ohio, she returned to Florida, eventually answering a newspaper ad that led her to a position that coordinated the volunteers for Give Kids the World. After nearly 20 years, Schumacher became president and CEO of Orlando-based Astronaut Scholarship Foundation. Six years later she returned to lead Give Kids the World, the 89-acre resort that hosts children with critical illnesses and their families free of charge. The nonprofit turns 40 next year. Hotel owner and philanthropist Henri Landwirth helped found both Give Kids the World and the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation. He died in 2018. Schumacher is the successor to Pamela Landwirth, former wife of Henri Landwirth, who left the organization in January after three decades. Schumacher sat in the village’s Towne Hall with the Orlando Sentinel and talked about the organization’s past and future. Schumacher on growth of the village When I started, we were just getting ready to open what we called the World of Wonders Expansion in 2000, and that would essentially double the village in size — by capacity — with villas, but also bring all these entertainment areas. … And what that also meant was we were doubling our volunteer organization as well, and our program exploded. And it was really fun to be a part of that. On her college program stint before Disney’s Animal Kingdom debuted So I got down here in February, so we weren’t open yet. We were doing cast previews, so it was really awesome to see “Festival of the Lion King” in dress rehearsals. … I was in Africa attractions, which meant we were kind of the cool kids, but you’re really the cool kid if you’re on the [Kilimanjaro] Safaris. I was Wildlife Express. On future plans We don’t really see growth in the number of families in a large manner. … What I think we really want to focus on right now is long-term sustainability. … We want to make sure that it’s formidable, that we are so strong that we can weather these storms that come, you know, like a pandemic-type event. We want to make sure that we’re in good position for that in all aspects, not just financially but in a well-rounded manner as well operationally. We serve, regularly, between 7,000 and 8,000 families [annually] from all across the United States. … There was a lot of growth over the years to get to the capacity that we have now. And we are, I would say, clearly in a place where we know we don’t need to grow in capacity. We’re good with capacity. Caroline Schumacher hugs volunteer Ze Wyatt at the village campus in Kissimmee during a Monday morning shift. (Joe Burbank/Orlando Sentinel) On the village’s emphasis We’re really just focused on, obviously, our guests. and making sure that we maintain that exceptional guest experience that we’ve always done so well … and that we never short it and really pouring into our staff and making sure they remember that they’re empowered to create that experience. On change The beautiful part about the village is so much has evolved over the years that we’re in constant change. You know, we might do these activities for a family one year, and then five years later, it changes to this. On lessons learned while away I would say we do a really good job with our corporate partners here. … We just do a really good job of working with them and keeping them. … But one of the things we did really, really well at the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation was working with our individual donors, and I learned a lot about how important it is to really have the strong relationships and personal connections with those people who so generously give up their treasure to you. On the volunteers When I started in ‘99 I would have to say we had mostly retired, 55-plus senior community volunteering and some after-work crowd and some young people. But it definitely has diversified a great deal over the years. We fill 1,200 to 1,400 shifts a week with volunteers. It’s amazing, from greeting at the airport to working our horse rides, to our Wonder Lab, to our attractions, to our food and beverage. Scooping ice cream is a very competitive shift. Everybody wants to scoop ice cream. On her village happy place I love to take walks around the village and just stroll. … I love if I hear families’ laughter. I would say the avenue in general, that’s what we call the paved area, Avenue of Angels. Walking the avenue is probably one of my favorite things to do. It’s a really good thing to do when you need to get your mind right for a minute. It’s something about going down that avenue, getting up onto Amberville on the porch. That’s kind of my little destination. I like to take the random ride on the carousel. That’s always fun. Caroline Schumacher poses on the iconic carousel, a central part of Give Kids the World Village in Kissimmee. (Joe Burbank/Orlando Sentinel) On another village? There have been times when we’ve had organizations approach us from other countries: Japan, somebody just brought up Abu Dhabi to me the other day, Hawaii. California is kind of the obvious one. Europe. … What’s beautiful about here is we started because kids want to come to Central Florida, that is the core, the heart of the wish. And they want to come to Walt Disney World. They want to go to Universal. They want to visit all the major theme parks. They maybe want to go over to Kennedy Space Center. Maybe they want to go to Legoland Florida, SeaWorld, all the amazing attractions in our area. We were built to house those families during their stay. And it grew into not just a shelter and accommodations and food and beverage experience. We create this absolute escape for them that’s into this magical world that exists only for them. We’ll never not listen to the [expansion] ideas and if it would ever make sense, and we’re in a position where that should go that direction. … But what I would say right now and for the foreseeable future, we want to be really proud and strong, and, you know, best in class here in Central Florida. dbevil@orlandosentinel.com View the full article
  5. When it comes to dining at Disney World, you’ve got a TON of options, and we’ve got a ton of reviews. However, recently we ventured across the pond to Disneyland Paris. Walt’s – an American Restaurant While at Disney’s only European resort, we dined at Walt’s – an American Restaurant, which is located right on Main Street, and now we’re bringing you our FULL review. Atmosphere Located directly on Main Street is Walt’s. This restaurant is described as “Serving sophisticated and contemporary American cuisine with European influences, this is a Victorian-style tribute to the life and work of Walt Disney”. Walt’s exterior Atmospherically, the restaurant was beautiful. It’s broken down into numerous rooms of various sizes, which give the whole environment the feel of dining in a Victorian family home. Walt’s Interior The rooms were decorated with a mix of Disney family photos and memorabilia, as well as concept art that evoked the various lands of Disneyland, such as Frontierland and Fantasyland. Including the man himself But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?! Menu We did the Prefix Menu, which cost €55 (approximately $60). It offered the following: Walt’s menu Starters Creamy Pea Soup, Whipped Isigny Cream and Smoky Popcorn: Peas, one of the ingredients found on the shopping list on Walt Disney’s fridge, are brought to you with a new twist as a soup, served with smoky popcorn and Isigny cream, a nod to the Disney family’s French origins Chicken Pot Pie: This classic American dish, made back in the day by Bessie Postalwaite (a Disney family cook). gets a French touch with its croissant pastry shell. Waldorf Salad: Roquefort Cheese and Lemon and Thyme Vinaigrette. One of the salads Walt loved to eat – it was even in the list attached to his fridge at home. Main Courses Chilli con Carne: Tortilla Chips, Cheddar and Isigny Crème Fraîche, Red Onion, Coriander, White Rice and Kidney Beans. The two are inseparable, said Ron Miller, Walt’s son-in-law. He loved chilli and his favourite recipe was served at Chasen’s in Beverley Hills. This deconstructed version comes with a can of chilli, which was another of Walt’s firm favourites. The delicious Isigny crème fraîche is a little nod to France. Fillet of Farmhouse Chicken with a Golden Honey and Cajun-Spiced Coating: Cranberry sauce and Baby vegetables. Walt loved chicken, be it roasted or fried, so long as it came with gravy and just one vegetable as a side. Mac and Cheddar Cheese: Pasta, Cheddar Cheese Sauce, Pastrami and Shiitake Desserts Flower Street Sundae: A nod to the Disneyland Paris address of Walt’s an American restaurant on 1401 Flower Street, but it’s also the address of Walt Disney Imagineering in Glendale, California. Pineapple Upside-Down Cake and Vanilla-Infused Isigny Crème Fraîche: Pineapple was one of Walt’s favourite fruits. Walt loved pie. This recipe mixes two of his favourite desserts with unctuous Isigny cream. The Steamboat Willie: Caramelised Millefeuille with Praline Mascarpone Cream And what did we think of that food? Well… Eats As noted above, we went with the Prefix Menu offering for approximately $60 per person, and unfortunately, it did not live up to the surroundings of the restaurant. Let’s begin with the starters. The Cream Pea Soup was flavorless, and the popcorn it came with — while a unique concept — was stale, which didn’t help. Cream Pea Soup Moving on to the Chicken Pot Pie, this was slightly better, mainly due to the French-style croissant pastry. However, the chicken and veggie filling was — once again — bland and tasteless. Chicken Pot Pie Even the Waldorf Salad — a dish we generally enjoy — was also bland and didn’t pack any sort of punch, which seems almost impossible given the mix of ingredients. Waldorf Salad Moving on to the entrees, let’s begin with the Chili Con Carne. As a cute nod to Walt Disney’s well-documented love of canned chili, the dish was plated with the chili in a can-shaped dish. Unlike everything else so far, the chili had a nice flavor to it, a bit of sweetness that may have been attributable to brown sugar. Unfortunately, the rest of the dish didn’t live up to the chili. The steak was mushy with a gristle taste, while the rice was bland, undercooked, and stiff. Chili Con Carne The Farmhouse Chicken was also a disappointment. The chicken was dry, to the point that it was hard to cut through, a we drowned it in the sweet cranberry sauce. The accompanying veggies were nothing special, and didn’t do much to elevate the disappointing chicken. Farmhouse Chicken So, the Mac & Cheese was probably our favorite of the three entrees. It was tasty, and the mushrooms added an interesting texture. However, for the price and atmosphere, it still had the feel of being from a can. Mac & Cheese The desserts fared slightly better as far as we were concerned. All three were similar to the desserts offered at the company’s domestic parks. The Pineapple Upside Down Cake was a dense offering that came with an admittedly delicious French cream. Pineapple Upside Down Cake The Steamboat Willie may have been our favorite thing on the whole menu. The dish was slightly tough to eat as it was tough to cut through the pastries. But either way, it didn’t matter. The praline, almond, and mascarpone all came together to form a deliciously sweet mix. Steamboat Willie Drinks On to the drink menu, we tried several options. First up was the Edition Spéciate Disneyland Paris – Champagne Pierre Mignon Grande Réserve in a souvenir glass, which costs €20 (approximately $23). As a Champagne, it was solid, if not spectacular. Bubbly, and not overly sweet. Champagne Next there was the Floral Imagination, which is a cocktail of Bleu de Limoges gin, Vermouth Dry, violet liqueur, lavender syrup, apple juice, lime drink, and egg white. This one costs €18, which is roughly $21.00. We were not fans of this one. It was overly sweet and almost tasted like drinking perfume. Floral Imagination Finally, there’s the Sweet Main Street. This mocktail is exclusive to Walt’s an American Restaurant and “pays tribute to Main Street, U.S.A., the land inspired by Walt Disney’s childhood memories.” The drink mixes cranberry juice, apple juice, Candyfloss syrup, and Candyfloss. It costs €13, or about $15.00. Being a non-alcoholic drink, this is clearly aimed at kids, and it certainly delivers in that regard. It was almost like drinking liquid cotton candy (which complemented the cotton candy it was served with). Sweet Main Street Overall Walt’s – an American Restaurant was sadly a disappointment. We loved the aesthetic. Both the decor and the Main Street setting are fantastic. However, the food we were served was a massive disappointment on nearly every level. We liked the options the menu offered, but the food itself just tasted bland and could have used more salt and flavor. Also of note, we ran into some issues with our service. While there are likely some cultural differences at play, the staff weren’t attentive at times, and seemed overworked. Walt’s If you’re making a trip to Disneyland Paris anytime soon, it may be tempting to consider Walt’s given its theme, location, and perceived status as one of the park’s premier restaurants. If it’s really something you want to do, give it a try. Your experience may be vastly different than our own. Everyone is different; you may have a different chef, or your taste buds might simply think our review of this spot was off the mark! But we will say, we feel there are better spots to eat at in Disneyland Paris. Stay tuned to DFB for more on Disney’s restaurants around the world. From the best stroller to finds that will keep you sane while you wait in lines, we have got you covered. Now, take a deep breath and let’s get to planning! DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Theme Park Essentials Stroller Fan ©Amazon This might be the most important thing on the list, especially if you are visiting Disney in the spring or summer. You will need a stroller fan with a reliable battery life. It gets HOT in Disney World, and it gets even HOTTER in a stroller. So, this is the best way to keep your little one cool, cozy, and happy. VIEW ON AMAZON Whiskware Snack Cups ©Amazon If you know anything about toddlers, then you know they love their snacks. You also know that toddler-approved food is hard to come by (even in Disney World). That’s where these snack cups come in. You can load up your toddler’s favorite snacks and be ready to go each day. ©Amazon We love that they stack, so they can easily fit in your park bag, and the Disney theme is just the cherry on top. VIEW ON AMAZON Disposable Place Mats Toddlers can be MESSY. And it can be stressful, feeling like you need to clean up a big mess or feeling like you’re leaving a big mess for Cast Members. To solve that problem, we bring disposable placemats. These not only keep the area clean, but they often have cute little activities that keep toddlers busy when you’re at a restaurant. A WIN-WIN, people! ©Amazon I like these specific ones because they have sticky edges. You peel it and can actually stick the placemats to the table, so you don’t have to worry about your toddler pulling it down. VIEW ON AMAZON Play Packs/Sticker Books ©Amazon These are so easy to travel with or to give your littles something to do when eating or during downtime in the hotel room or at the parks. We love them because they’re inexpensive but oh, so useful! VIEW ON AMAZON Stroller Organizer ©Amazon As you can see, you will likely find yourself bringing a lot of stuff to the parks. To help with that, we suggest a stroller organizer. Something that holds your phone, your drink, and whatever else you need easy and quick access to. VIEW ON AMAZON Pacifier Clip ©Amazon If your little one relies on a pacifier, a clip will be essential in the parks. The last thing you want is for the pacifier to hit the ground or to get LOST. I love this one because it clips on easily, is inexpensive, and just look at that Mickey!! VIEW ON AMAZON Rain Jacket ©Amazon If you know DFB, then you know we are constantly stressing that you need a poncho. And it’s TRUE, y’all. But the likelihood that your toddler is going to wear a poncho is slim — I know mine wouldn’t. So, we suggest bringing a rain jacket instead. These are easy to get on and off and will still keep your baby dry. VIEW ON AMAZON Portable Diaper Pad/Disposable Diaper Pad ©Amazon This one pretty much explains itself. Yes, Disney bathrooms are clean. But you don’t wanna place your little one on a changing table with nothing else. And having something to change your baby on in the hotel room is nice as well. We suggest bringing a diaper bag that has one in the bag, bringing a travel one that folds up, or even just packing some puppy pads (yes, you read that right). VIEW ON AMAZON Boogie Hand Wipes ©Amazon Germs are everywhere, and your little one will be tempted to touch everything in the parks. These are great for after eating or in between those bathroom breaks when you just need to clean those sweet little hands! VIEW ON AMAZON Airtag Holders ©Amazon Mom anxiety is real, and we know that Disney World has a lot of people. For peace of mind, you can grab an AirTag. We like putting on our toddler’s shoes. Is it necessary? Probably not. But does it make us feel better? 100%. And these are waterproof! VIEW ON AMAZON Water Bottle ©Amazon Our favorite water bottles for kids in Disney are the ones from Simple Modern. They do a great job of keeping everything cold, they are easy to clean, and the perfect size as well. VIEW ON AMAZON Mockingbird Stroller ©Amazon Almost everyone on our team agreed that the Mockingbird Strollers (or those like it) are perfect for Disney World. They are a good size, easy to maneuver in the parks, and have plenty of storage. VIEW ON AMAZON Hotel Toddler Essentials Travel Bath ©Amazon Did you know that bathtubs are not guaranteed at Disney World hotels? Yeah, a lot of the newer hotels and refurbished rooms only have showers. So if you have a little one who needs to be in an actual tub instead of a shower, then you should snag an inflatable travel tub! VIEW ON AMAZON Travel Bed ©Amazon You can ask for a roll-in crib when staying at a Disney World hotel, but if your toddler no longer sleeps in a crib, then you may be seeking a different option. We like to bring an inflatable travel bed. These are closer to the ground than Disney World beds. They also have safety sides, so you don’t have to worry about your little one rolling off! VIEW ON AMAZON Slumber Pod ©Amazon Speaking of beds. Another great find for hotel rooms is a slumber pod. This will fit over a crib or the inflatable bed and will help make sure the room is dark. We know so many babies need extreme darkness to fall asleep, and this will help you achieve that in a Disney World hotel room! VIEW ON AMAZON Portable Sound Machine Hatch sounds machines can be kind of bulky to travel with. So if your little one relies on their Hatch or other sound machine for brown noise or a red light, you might want to get a smaller travel option. This one is SO small and will make sure you have brown noise so you can all sleep peacefully. ©Amazon VIEW ON AMAZON And this one is a bit larger, but it will give you the sound machine feature and color options. It also helps if your little one is afraid of the dark and just needs a bit of a nightlight in the room! ©Amazon VIEW ON AMAZON These are a few things that have really helped us with our little ones in Disney World, and we know they will help you, too! 7. One of the best parts of a Disney vacation or day trip is enjoying sweet treats with my family. A fun way to relive those memories is to make some of our favorite Disney dessert recipes at home. Over the years, several Disney cookbooks have made their way into our home as a reminder of these special times. Since I love Disney recipes, I am excited to announce “The Official Disney Parks Desserts Cookbook: Remembering 101 Sweet Delicious Disney Recipes” is now on sale everywhere books are sold! Pam Brandon and the Disney chefs collected recipes from the Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort, Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa, and Disney Cruise Line for this cookbook. In addition to long-time favorites like the Peanut Butter & Jelly Milkshake from 50’s Prime Time Café at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, this book includes 35 brand-new treats. To celebrate the cookbook, we’re sharing the Peanut Butter & Jelly Cupcakes from the Disney recipe vault. This classic childhood combination in cupcake form was served at Trail’s End Restaurant in Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. The slightly salty peanut butter batter and peanut butter buttercream are balanced out perfectly with just the right amount of sweet jelly filling. It’s a nostalgic treat that’s easily enjoyed by the whole family. Let’s get baking! Peanut Butter & Jelly Cupcakes Recipe Makes 12 cupcakes Ingredients Peanut Butter Cupcakes 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1/4 teaspoons coarse salt 1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup brown sugar 2 eggs 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/2 cup whole milk Jelly Filling 1 1/2 cups favorite jelly or jam Peanut Butter Buttercream 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened 2 cups powdered sugar 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter Toppings 12 peanut butter sandwich cookies Instructions Peanut Butter Cupcakes Preheat oven to 350°F. Line muffin pan with paper liners. Set aside. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt together in a medium mixing bowl and set aside. Cream butter and peanut butter in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment until smooth. Add both sugars and cream until fluffy. Then add eggs and vanilla and beat on medium speed until fully combined. Reduce to low speed. Add half of the flour mixture and beat until just combined. Add milk and remaining flour and beat on low speed for 1 minute, until combined. Scoop batter into prepared pan, filling each cup 2/3 of the way full. Bake 15-18 minutes, until top of cupcakes springs back when touched. Cool in pan for 5 minutes, then move to cooling rack. Cool completely before filling and frosting. Jelly Filling Cut a 1-inch wide hole in the center of each cupcake, about 2/3 of the way down, being careful not to cut through to the bottom. Discard extra cake pieces. Fill centers of cupcakes with 2 tablespoons of jam or jelly. Wipe away any excess filling with an offset spatula. Peanut Butter Buttercream Cream butter in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a whisk attachment until smooth. Add sugar and mix on low speed until combined. Increase speed to medium and beat until fluffy. Add vanilla and peanut butter and beat on medium speed until combined. Then place in a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe buttercream on top of filled cupcakes. Top each cupcake with one peanut butter sandwich cookie and refrigerate until ready to serve. Always use caution when handling sharp objects and hot contents. Please supervise children who are helping or nearby. This recipe has been converted from a larger quantity in the restaurant kitchens. The flavor profile may vary from the restaurant’s version. Are you making this delicious dish at home? Share your culinary creations with #DisneyEats. 10. If you’ve been to the Disney World water parks recently — Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach — chances are that you’ve probably noticed this recent trend. Blizzard Beach More and more people are skipping the barefoot route and opting for one very practical accessory: water shoes. They’re not just for kayaking trips anymore. These lightweight, quick-dry shoes are quickly becoming the must-have item for anyone who wants to survive a full day at the water parks without blisters, burns, or bruises. Let’s talk about why. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. The Pavement Problem If you’ve ever tried to walk barefoot across a pool deck in the middle of summer, you already know what this is about. The Florida sun is no joke, and the concrete at Disney’s water parks can heat up fast. Even though Cast Members do their best to keep high-traffic walkways cool — yes, those little sprinklers that mist the pavement really help — there are still plenty of areas where your feet are exposed to the full power of the sun. Blizzard Beach At Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach, that means the walk between attractions, food stands, and rest areas can quickly turn into a game of “hot lava.” Water shoes are the simplest fix for this, and they’ve caught on for a reason. It’s Not Just The Pavement The walkways between the attractions aren’t the only areas where you’re feel will feel exposed. For example, the Surf Pool at Typhoon Lagoon is legendary, but it’s also notorious for one thing: a rough bottom. Without shoes, your feet can get scraped up pretty fast, especially when those big waves roll through. Plenty of regular visitors have learned this the hard way, and it’s why many now pack water shoes just for that area alone. Typhoon Lagoon Before switching to shoes, we’ve heard stories of how people often leave the pool with sore toes or tiny cuts from the textured surface. With a pair of water shoes, though, that problem disappears — plus you get a bit of padding that makes standing around in the shallow section a lot more comfortable. The Comfort Factor Even if you don’t mind walking barefoot, water shoes have another big benefit: comfort. We’ve seen guests wearing breathable, waterproof styles — almost like boat shoes — that offer actual arch support and cushion. That might sound unnecessary for a day in the water, but after hours of walking around on concrete and climbing up stairs to reach slides, your feet will thank you. Typhoon Lagoon And if you’re worried about what to do with your shoes on attractions, the Cast Members will let you know when you need to remove them, but in many cases — especially rides where you’re in a tube or raft — you’re free to wear them the whole way down. When You’ll Need to Take Them Off Of course, there are exceptions. If you’re riding any of the body slides where you’re directly on the fiberglass surface, you’ll be asked to take your shoes off. Don’t worry, though — the Cast Member will tell you exactly what to do. Usually, you just hold them as you go down the slide and slip them back on at the bottom. Typhoon Lagoon It’s worth noting that water shoes with a lot of traction can occasionally work too well. Some guests have mentioned that when their foot hit a wall mid-slide, the shoe gripped the surface and caused a minor jam to their ankle. Nothing serious, but it’s a good reminder to look for flexible, lightweight shoes that have just enough grip to protect you without locking onto the slide. What Kind of Shoes Work Best If you’re wondering what kind of water shoes to buy, there are plenty of options online that are both affordable and reliable. One popular pair we’ve spotted is the ATHMILE Water Shoes, which sell for under $10 on Amazon. They’re made of quick-drying, breathable fabric, have thick insoles for extra comfort, and the anti-slip soles protect your feet from both rough surfaces and hot pavement. ©Amazon They’re also flexible and foldable, which makes them easy to pack. And yes, they come in a ton of colors and patterns if you’re hoping to match them with your swimsuit. Get It Here The Bottom Line If you’re planning a trip to a Disney water park, water shoes might be one of the smartest purchases you make. They’ll save your feet from the sizzling pavement, protect you from scrapes in the wave pool, and add a layer of comfort you didn’t know you needed. ©Amazon You can absolutely do a water park day barefoot — plenty of people still do. But when the sun is beating down, the slides are calling, and the concrete feels like it’s on fire, you’ll probably find yourself eyeing everyone else’s shoes and thinking, “Okay, maybe they’re onto something.” So next time you’re packing your park bag, toss in a pair of water shoes. Your feet will thank you later. Stay tuned to DFB for more Disney World news and updates. Click Here to See What to Eat (and Avoid) at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park! 11. Disney World isn’t the only U.S. resort getting a ton of updates: Disneyland is getting ready to make way for some huge expansions, too. ©Disney We’ve already seen Downtown Disney get some new restaurants…with more on the way. A new Coco ride will be coming soon to Disney California Adventure. A brand-new Avatar land is also on the way, as well as a MASSIVE Avengers Campus expansion with two new rides. Disneyland is also planning a new parking and transportation hub, and a new permit shows that work for that hub might be starting soon. Disneyland has filed a new permit for the east side of the resort, where the new parking and transportation hub will be located. Currently, this spot is the Manchester Cast Member lot. The new space will provide around 6,000 parking spaces, shuttle drop-off and pickup areas, dedicated spots for rideshare services, security screening, and easier access into and out of the hub. Disneyland Resort parking garage The permit is for the “East Esplanade” to install a 15-foot-long by 8-foot-high chain link fence, as well as a 128-foot-long and 8-foot-high wooden fence in that area. This will mark the first construction on the new parking and transportation hub. Of course, this isn’t the only construction happening in Disneyland. The Avengers Campus expansion in California Adventure is also currently underway. That expansion will bring two more rides to the land and double the size of Avengers Campus (so exciting for us Marvel fans, right?). Construction in Avengers Campus Earlier this year, Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue closed to make way for the new Avatar land. Disney also recently confirmed that the new Coco ride will be located near Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier in an area that is currently a backstage location. Disneyland might not have a lot of extra land for expansion, but Imagineers have figured out how to work with the land they have. ©Disney We’ll be keeping an eye out for more construction updates in Disneyland, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 16. Disney World is going through some major changes, and while we’re excited about some of them, there are others that fans have been pretty ticked off about. MagicBand+ It was recently revealed that Disney World hotel guests will no longer receive discounted MagicBands ahead of their visits, and the response has been, well, what you might expect it to be when Disney says they’re taking away a discount. Let’s just say Disney fans are pretty furious about this MagicBand change. Amid sweeping price increases across the parks and hotels, Disney World also revealed that hotel guests would no longer receive discounts on MagicBands ahead of their park visits. This was something that had been in place since Disney stopped providing complimentary MagicBands for hotel guests. MagicBand While it was already disappointing that Disney got rid of free MagicBands for hotel guests, getting rid of the discount stings even more. Now, hotel guests will have to pay full price if they want to add a MagicBand+ to their trip. Disney fans are, understandably, disappointed by this. Halloween music! One reply we got when we shared the news was, “Disney has gotten rid of most of the perks of staying on site and the customer service at the ‘resorts’ and parks has taken a nose dive. It is not the same as it was even 7 years ago.” Of course, this is just one person’s opinion, but it speaks to how fans aren’t happy about this change. That’s so neat! Another reply said, “Remove all of the perks, detheme the rooms, cut service like mousekeeping to a bare minimum, raise ticket prices. Universal is loving this. Disney will be selling off assets within the next 5 to 10 years.” Others mentioned that MagicBands are pretty convenient for kids who are too young for phones but still want to have a bit of independence, and it helps parents avoid having to be responsible for scanning everyone’s tickets from their phones. So many choices! On the other hand, though, this could be a sign that demand for MagicBands isn’t quite as high as it used to be. Many fans wouldn’t even opt to purchase MagicBands at all if not for the discount in the first place. After all, everything that a MagicBand can do, the My Disney Experience app can do as well via MagicMobile — and that’s free. MagicBand+ lights! Having the hotel discount was an incentive for people to buy MagicBands who likely wouldn’t have done so to begin with. Now, there really is no incentive at all, aside from the novelty and collectible value. It’s possible that MagicBands just aren’t as popular as they once were. With the introduction of MagicBand+ (and the price increase that came along with it), plus MagicMobile, maybe Disney fans are realizing that this extra cost really isn’t worth it at all. MagicBand We’ll be on the lookout for more changes from Disney World you need to know about. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more. Now, this is the best close-up view you can get of these three new areas coming to Disney World, so we highly recommend checking these models out. There’s a display detailing the new Cars-themed expansion coming to Magic Kingdom, Piston Peak. Piston Peak The display also has 3D models of Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater, so it looks like we’ll be seeing them in Piston Peak. Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater Another display shows off Monstropolis, coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and hmm, does that confirm the official name for the new land? We’ll have to wait and see! Monstropolis This display features 3D models of Mike and Sulley. We can’t wait to meet ’em in their new land! Mike and Sulley However, the most impressive model is the 3D model of the entire new Tropical Americas-themed land, Pueblo Esperanza, coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Now, we previously saw this model (and it looks like the same one) in 2024 at D23, but now ANYONE visiting Hollywood Studios can see it. Pueblo Esperanza We got a really good first look at the Casita, the house owned by the Madrigal Family from Encanto. It appears the structure behind it is a building, and possibly part of the ride…and it’s HUGE. The Casita One thing we love about Animal Kingdom, in general, is that there is a lot of shade, and this land will be no different. There are trees everywhere. So much shade Here’s a close-up of the entrance to Pueblo Esperanza… Entrance We know that there’s going to be a massive restaurant here, so is this group of buildings that, possibly, with some shops, too? Restaurants and shops, maybe? The land will also bring a brand new Indiana Jones ride to Disney World. Here’s the temple you’ll enter to access the ride. New Indiana Jones ride We can’t tell you how cool it is to get a closer look at some of the projects that are happening in Disney World right now. If you get a chance to see this exhibit, we highly recommend you pop into Walt Disney Presents to check it out. Stay tuned to DFB for more. 20. Starbucks might be a must-have caffeine fix for many Disney World guests, but some say the current setup is more chaos than convenience. Get that pumpkin spice ready! For many Disney World guests, a day at the parks doesn’t really start until they’ve got a Starbucks cup in hand. Whether you’re heading to rope drop or grabbing a midday caffeine boost between Lightning Lane windows, the Starbucks locations in the parks are popular, maybe too popular. 1. Let Us Use Mobile Ordering (Please!) If you’ve stood in a 30-minutes plus in the Starbucks line on Main Street, you know that dreams of being able to use mobile order have danced in your head. Over in Disney Springs, you can mobile order your Starbucks drink ahead of time and skip the line entirely, but that option doesn’t exist at any of the Starbucks locations inside the parks. West Side Starbucks at Disney Springs Fans are begging for this to change. With so many other Disney dining spots offering Mobile Order through the My Disney Experience app, it feels like a no-brainer. Even if it’s through the regular Starbucks app like at Springs, being able to order ahead while in line for an attraction or walking into the park would save so much time and caffeine-starved drama. Starbucks line on Christmas Eve 2. Let Us Use Our Birthday Drinks and Starbucks Rewards Here’s a not-so-magical surprise: you can’t redeem your free birthday drink or use your Starbucks Stars at the Starbucks locations inside Disney World’s parks. While you can use Starbucks gift cards to pay, and even earn Stars, you can’t redeem those Stars for free drinks or use your birthday reward like you can at your neighborhood store or the Disney Springs locations. It’s frustrating, especially for regular Starbucks fans who are used to those little perks. Creature Comforts 3. Give Us the Full Food Menu Sure, you can grab a croissant, a banana, or a breakfast sandwich, but Starbucks park locations are missing a lot of the food we know and love. DFB’s own Breea even pointed out that she’d love to see the bacon and gruyère egg bites added to the menu, and we totally agree. These high-protein, low-carb options are a go-to for many Starbucks fans back home, and it would be amazing to have them available in the parks. Not everyone wants a giant sugar-loaded muffin or cake pop first thing in the morning. (Hey, we aren’t judging if you do! You know we love sugar here at DFB!) Crowds at Connections Cafe in EPCOT These are just a few things we’d love to see change about the Starbucks in Disney World. We know for many, getting a Starbs drink is a rite of passage to start a Disney day, and these changes would make it that much easier and better!! For more Disney tips, follow us at DFB! 21. Banana Ball is coming to Disney World. Translation: An entertainment-driven version of baseball, popularized by the Savannah Bananas, will have a two-night stand at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World in May. The games will not feature the original Bananas crew, instead pitting the Party Animals and the Loco Beach Coconuts, all teams within the Banana Ball Championship League. (Other clubs include Firefighters, Texas Tailgaters and the Indianapolis Clowns.) Tickets will be sold via a lottery accessed at bananaball.com. Sign-ups must be completed by Nov. 1. Ticket prices start at $35. The Stadium at Wide World seats about 9,500 spectators, whereas the record attendance for the Bananas is 81,000 people at Memorial Stadium at Clemson University for an April matchup. Banana Ball games mix in nontraditional rules and madcap entertainment moments. For instance, foul balls caught by fans count as outs, bunts (and mound visits) are banned, there is a two-hour time limit on games and there’s a complicated “showdown tiebreaker” in lieu of extra innings. Some competitions have been broadcast on YouTube and Disney-owned ESPN. Other upcoming dates in Florida include three dates in Tallahassee in late February, and three nights in Jacksonville in July. dbevil@orlandosentinel.com View the full article

  23. While Disney World is known for its rides, shows, and nighttime entertainment, if you’re looking to relax while on vacation, look no further than your Disney resort pool! Stormalong Bay I have swam in different Disney World resort pools, and I’ve definitely developed some favorites. Each pool has its own unique charm. From the atmosphere to the amenities to how easy it is to grab a snack or drink while you relax. Whether you’re planning a rest day or just want to make the most of those pool hours, these are the three resort pools that truly stand out. 1. Stormalong Bay – Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts If you’re looking for the ultimate pool day at Disney, Stormalong Bay is unbeatable. Shared between Disney’s Yacht Club and Beach Club Resorts, this massive sand-bottom pool feels more like a mini water park than a hotel pool. You can float along the lazy river or zoom down one of the best waterslides on property. The slide even starts from a shipwreck across the walkway! When hunger strikes, Hurricane Hanna’s Waterside Bar & Grill serves up delicious drinks and easy bites, and you’re only steps from the Beaches & Cream Soda Shop walk-up window for an iconic ice cream cone. Stormalong Bay Families and pool lovers alike will be obsessed with Stormalong Bay. Kids can spend hours in the water or the slide area, while adults can lounge with a cocktail and soak up the resort’s seaside charm. Its location along Crescent Lake means you’re close to EPCOT and the BoardWalk, making it ideal for anyone who loves to mix relaxation with easy park access and dining convenience. Stormalong Bay This pool underwent an extensive refurbishment since January 2025 for maintenance and reopened in June. Hurricane Hanna’s also saw an update to their menu with brand new items. Overall, there is a reason this resort pool is so popular for Disney guests. It is so well themed and a great place to spend a hot summer afternoon. Refurbishment 2. Samawati Springs Pool – Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas: Kidani Village Tucked away at Kidani Village, the Samawati Springs Pool is one of Disney’s most underrated gems. Because it’s a bit of a walk from the main Jambo House, it’s often quieter, which makes it a perfect escape from the park crowds. The pool area is lush and beautifully themed, surrounded by tropical greenery that gives it a serene, private feel. There’s also a great waterslide, plenty of shaded seating, and a peaceful hot tub area for unwinding. Samawati Springs Pool But what really sets Samawati Springs apart is Uwanja Camp, an incredible splash pad and play area for kids. It’s full of water cannons, climbing structures, and sprinklers that could keep little ones entertained for hours. Families with young children will absolutely love it here, while adults will appreciate the calm, uncrowded vibe. If you’re staying at Kidani or just want a low-key pool day away from the busier resorts, this is the perfect spot. Maji Pool Bar 3. Lava Pool – Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort The Lava Pool at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is pure vacation magic. With a view overlooking Seven Seas Lagoon and Cinderella Castle in the distance, the tropical atmosphere is unmatched. The pool features a volcano with a thrilling waterslide and a zero-entry area that’s perfect for lounging in the shallow water. The lush landscaping, tiki torches, and Hawaiian music make you feel like you’ve escaped to the islands without ever leaving Walt Disney World. Lava Pool What makes the Polynesian Lava Pool even better is everything that surrounds it. You’re steps away from Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace, the pool bar, and Captain Cook’s for quick and tasty bites (hello, pulled pork nachos and Dole Whip!). Whether you’re traveling as a couple wanting to soak in the atmosphere with a drink or a family looking for a fun yet relaxing pool day with views of Magic Kingdom fireworks, the Lava Pool offers the perfect mix of energy, scenery, and classic Disney vibes. 24. Disney giveth, and Disney taketh away. Well, folks, the time has come to say goodbye to two more DinoLand U.S.A. snack spots. Breaking DinoLand NEWS! DinoLand at Animal Kingdom is being transformed into the new Tropical Americas-themed Pueblo Esperanza, and ahead of that transformation, Disney has announced that Dino-Bite Snacks and Trilo-Bites will permanently close on October 20th, 2025. Here’s what you need to know. Dino-Bite Snacks and Trilo-Bites will close on October 20th, making October 19th your last chance to get Buffalo Chicken Chips or hand-scooped ice cream at these locations — but fear not! You’ll still be able to get some of these iconic snacks elsewhere. Dino-Bite Snacks It was previously announced that Restaurantosaurus would be closing on February 1st, but that some of those menu options would be coming to Harambe Market — along with some updates to that spot. Now, Disney has announced that Harambe Market will also close on October 20th. The location is expected to reopen in early 2026. Harambe Market You’ll be able to find some of your favorite menu items from these spots in other locations, though! Kusafiri Coffee Shop & Bakery will be open for lunch and will serve items like the Harambe Chicken Rice Bowl, a plant-based Picadillo Rice Bowl, and a Harissa Chicken Wrap. Meal from Harambe Market The Buffalo Chicken Chips from Trilo-Bites will move to Eight Spoon Cafe on Discovery Island. Buffalo Chicken Chips Dole Whip Floats will move to Warung Outpost in Africa, and while you won’t be able to get hand-scooped ice cream again until February, you can still find soft-serve ice cream, sundaes, and floats at Tamu Tamu Refreshments and Anandapur Ice Cream Truck. Trilo-Bites While we’re sad about more DinoLand closures, we’re thrilled to still be able to get some of our favorite snacks elsewhere in Animal Kingdom. We’ll be on the lookout for additional updates about this transformation, so make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest news! 25. You know the old saying, “When one door closes, another one opens.“? Well, there are a whole lot of doors closing over in Disney’s Animal Kingdom as the park prepares to debut a new Tropical Americas-themed land, called Pueblo Esperanza. DinoLand U.S.A. is closing in phases as construction kicks off, but that leaves us with an important question: what’s gonna happen to all of our favorite DinoLand snacks? Buffalo Chicken Chips If you know us around here, you may know that the Buffalo Chicken Chips served at the Trilo-Bites snack stand are a DFB FAVORITE. As this little snack stand goes extinct, will the chips, too, disappear for good? Disney just quietly confirmed a BUNCH of snack changes on the My Disney Experience website, and we’ve got GOOD NEWS for our fellow chip lovers. According to Disney’s online menus, we can confirm that some of our favorite snacks and treats will continue to be available at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. PHEW! Trilo-Bites Let’s start with some changes in the Africa section of the park. The Kusafiri Coffee Shop & Bakery is currently open daily from 8–11 AM, serving items like Breakfast Totchos and an Egg and Bacon Croissant Sandwich. But soon, this spot will once again open for lunch, serving items like the Harambe Chicken Rice Bowl, a plant-based Picadillo Rice Bowl, and a Harissa Chicken Wrap. Kusafiri Menu Additionally, some of our favorite Trilo-Bites snacks will be relocated when this stand closes on October 20th: The Buffalo Chicken Chips will move to Eight Spoon Cafe on Discovery Island A variety of flavored DOLE Whip floats will move to Warung Outpost in Asia Rafiki Wildberry and DOLE Whip Orange Float You may remember that DinoLand also served ice cream at Dino-Bite Snacks, so if you’re looking for a sweet treat after this spot closes on October 20th, you can visit Tamu Tamu Refreshments and Anandapur Ice Cream Truck. They serve all kinds of fun soft-serve ice cream, floats, and sundaes! We’re hoping the beloved ice cream sandwiches (like the Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream Sandwich) eventually find a new home in Animal Kingdom, too. We’ll be stalking the menus DAILY for updates, so stay tuned! Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream Sandwich Phew! That’s a LOT of menu updates. The good news is that there are still PLENTY of places to grab a snack in Animal Kingdom. In fact, we have reviewed nearly EVERY snack available at Disney World, and we’ve written a series of DFB Guides about them! Check out our DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining + Snacks Bundle for all the details you need to plan your snackin’ and spending. You can even download them to your smartphone – it’ll be like we’re right there with you in the parks! In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more.
